About the CSCS Test

The CITB Health, safety and environment test help raise standards across the industry. It ensures that workers meet a minimum level of health, safety and environmental awareness before going on site. It should be used as a stepping stone, encouraging employers and their workforce to develop their knowledge even further.

What is the CSCS Test

The examination called CSCS Test is critical to ensure a minimum level of safety, health, and environmental awareness is met by workers before commencing work in the construction industry. Even though there has been a reduction in the number of deaths, accidents, and injuries in this industry in recent years, it is still a major concern.

The test is designed to impart knowledge to construction workers so that they can identify hazards on-site and take steps to prevent dangerous incidents from happening. The CSCS exam has different levels that align with the various jobs and roles on a construction site. Operatives such as carpenters and bricklayers , for instance, need to pass the CSCS Test for Operatives , while Quantity Surveyors and Architects need to take and pass the CSCS Test for Managers and Professionals .

The CSCS Test covers five critical sections that contain a total of 16 categories that one must be knowledgeable about. These are the following:

Section A: Working environment

Section b: occupational health, section c: safety.

  • Section D: High-risk Activities

Section E: Specialist activities

Preparing for the cscs test.

You will need to show that you have knowledge and understanding across the areas listed below if you want to pass your CITB Health, safety and environment test. These are all areas that are relevant to anyone wishing to work in a construction environment. There is technically no minimum pass mark (though you should aim for at least 47 out of 50). but each section has its own scoring. This has been designed in the test structure to show that you can demonstrate good knowledge across all of the core subjects. Practice for your CSCS test online and pass using our free revision material.

The knowledge questions are grouped in chapters and sections, following the same structure that is used in all core CITB publications.

Section D: High risk activities

Accident reporting and recording : when, how and why accidents need to be reported and recorded.

First aid and emergency procedures : what you should do in case of an emergency, and what your employer must make available.

General responsibilities : what you and your employer need to do to ensure everyone is working safely on site.

Environmental awareness and waste control : your responsibilities on-site, how waste should be managed and how to conserve energy.

Personal protective equipment: why personal protective equipment (PPE) is important, why you should wear it and who is responsible for it.

Health and welfare : common health issues on site and how to avoid them. Providing welfare facilities and support on-site.

Dust and fumes (respiratory hazards) : how to work safely, protecting yourself and those around you from exposure to respiratory hazards. What health conditions may arise from exposure to dust and fumes.

Noise and vibration : why it is important to minimise exposure to noise and vibration in the workplace. How you should protect yourself and those around you.

Manual handling: why and how it is important to handle all loads using a safe system of work. What key areas you'll need to be aware of when handling loads.

Electrical safety, tools and equipment: how to work with different types of tools safely, and what you should do if the tools you are using have not been examined or are faulty.

Fire prevention and control: what you should do if you discover a fire, and which fire extinguishers should be used on what type of fire.

Safety signs: what type of safety signs you will see on a construction site, and what they are informing you of.

Working at height : what types of equipment you will use working at height, and how to use them correctly.

Excavations and confined spaces : why it is important, and how to work safely in a confined space or excavation, and what you should do if exposed to certain hazards.

Hazardous substances : how you can identify a hazardous substance, and what control measures should be in place to enable you to work safely.

Site transport safety and lifting operations: how site vehicles and pedestrians should work together on site.

If you are preparing for a specialist CSCS test you will also be asked questions on your specialist activity. There are currently 12 specialist CSCS tests available including:

  • Supervisory
  • Highway Works
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (Heating and Plumbing Services
  • Lifts and Escalators
  • Plumbing (JIB)
  • Pipefitting and Welding
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Services and Facilities Maintenance)
  • Specialist Working at Height

How is the CSCS test structured?

All CSCS tests last for 45 minutes and have 50 multiple-choice questions. There are two different types of questions, behavioural case study questions and knowledge questions.

Behavioural case study questions, what are they?

These are designed to test how you would respond in different health and safety scenarios on a construction site.

They are still multiple choice questions and you will be faced with 3 case studies at the beginning of your exam that you will need to answer.

They are based on fictional scenarios that you could face working on a construction site. If you need more information please look at the setting out film from the CITB book.

What is a knowledge question?

The knowledge questions cover 16 core areas (presented in Sections A-D) that are included in all the tests. These questions are very factual. For example, They ask you to identify fire extinguishers and safety signs. There is an additional knowledge question bank for each specialist CSCS test.

You do not need a detailed knowledge of the exact content or working of any regulations. However, you will need to show that you know what is required of you, the things you must do (or not do), and what to do in certain circumstances (for example, upon discovering an accident).

Legislation in Northern Ireland and Scotland differs from that in the rest of the UK. For practical reasons, all candidates (including those in Northern Ireland and Scotland) will be tested on questions using legislation relevant to the remainder of the UK only.

Will the CSCS Test questions change?

Health, safety and environment legislation, regulations and best practice will change From time to time, but CITB makes every effort to keep the CSCS test and the revision material up to date

  • You will not be tested on questions that are deemed to no longer be appropriate.
  • You will be tested knowledge questions presented in the most up to date edition. To revise effectively for the CSCS test you should use the latest edition.

Taking a test

 before the test.

On the day of the test you will need to:

  • allow plenty of time to get to the test centre and arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the test
  • Take your confirmation email or letter
  • Take proof of identity that bears your photo and your signature (such as driving licence card or passport — please visit www.citb.co.uk/hsandetest for a full list of acceptable documentation).

On arrival at the test centre, staff will check your documents to ensure you are booked onto the correct test. If you do not have all the relevant documents you will not be able to sit your test and you will lose your fee.

During the test

The tests are all delivered on a computer screen. However, you do not need to be familiar with computers and the test does not involve any typing. All you need to do is click on the relevant answer boxes, using either a mouse or by touching the screen.

Before the test begins, you can choose to work through a tutorial. It explains how the test works and lets you try out the buttons and functions that you will use while taking your test.

There will be information displayed on the screen, which shows you how far you are through the test and how much time you have remaining.

After the test

At the end of the test, an optional survey gives you the chance to provide feedback on the test process.

You will be provided with a printed score report after you have left the test room. This will tell you whether you have passed or failed your test.

What do I do if I fail?

If you fail your test, your score report will provide feedback on areas where you got questions wrong.

It is strongly recommended that you revise these areas thoroughly before re-booking.

You will have to wait at least 48 hours before you can take the test again.

What do I do if I pass?

A CITB Health, safety and environment test pass is often a requirement when applying to join a construction industry card scheme. Different schemes exist in different trades and professions. Membership of a relevant scheme helps you prove that you can do your job and safely do it. Access to construction sites may require a relevant scheme card.

Once you have passed your test, you should consider applying to join the relevant card scheme if you have not done so already. However, please be aware that you may need to complete further training, assessment and/or testing to meet their specific entry requirements.

CSCS Test Revision

Revising for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) exam can be a daunting challenge. It is essential to ensure that you are adequately prepared and have studied all relevant topics before taking the test. With this in mind, here are some tips to help you revise effectively for your CSCS exam:

1. Start early – When it comes to revising for an important exam like the CSCS, starting as early as possible will give you more time to go over any areas you may not understand or need further clarification on. This will also reduce the stress of having too much information to take in just before your test date arrives.

2. Use practice tests – Practicing with multiple-choice questions and mock exams can provide excellent revision tools which can be used in addition to studying course material from textbooks and online resources such as YouTube tutorials. These practice tests will help identify potential weaknesses so they can be addressed prior to sitting your actual CSCS exam.

3. Set yourself deadlines - Setting realistic deadlines throughout your revision period helps keep motivation high while ensuring that key topics are covered by particular dates leading up towards the final examination date itself. Having these targets provides focus and structure which makes sure no area is neglected when preparing for such an important assessment opportunity like the CSCS test .

4 . Take regular breaks – Scheduling short breaks after reviewing each topic or section allows ample time for rest, digestion and consolidation of what has been learnt during study sessions thus far . Taking regular pauses gives our brains a chance recharge , helping us maintain energy levels , stay focused and make sure we look forward rather than dreading upcoming revision tasks! With these tips firmly in mind, effective preparation should result in success both during revision periods leading up towards sitting your CSCS exam but more importantly on the day itself!

What is CSCS?

The acronym CSCS refers to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme . It is a British organisation responsible for providing construction workers with CSCS Cards. A CSCS card is a requirement for individuals working on construction sites within the United Kingdom. It ensures workers are appropriately qualified from a health and safety perspective before going on-site.

What is the CSCS Test?

In order to obtain a CSCS card, candidates must pass the CSCS Test , also known as the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test (HS&E test). This test is administered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), an organisation that is contracted by the CSCS to handle assessments, card applications and enquiries from potential candidates. Each year, the CITB handles hundreds of thousands of CSCS card applications on behalf of the CSCS.

Which test should I take?

Depending on your role on-site, the type of CSCS card you will be applying for will differ. As a result, the CSCS revision that you do and the type of test that you take will also be different. There are a number of different cards available including the red card and blue card. See our comprehensive guide about all of the different available cards.

The most frequently taken test is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives. This is the exam that needs to be passed by a labourer or bricklayer, for example. The CSCS mock test above contains questions specifically for operatives.

Individuals applying for managerial roles on-site must sit the Health and Safety Test for Managers. Quantity surveyors and architects, for example, should take this test. Click here to take a free CSCS mock test for managers and professionals.

If you don’t know which card to apply for and which test to sit, please refer to our in-depth guide about CSCS card types .

How do I revise for the test?

The CSCS Test consists of 50 knowledge-based questions from four key sections including the working environment, occupational health, safety and high-risk activities. Each of these key sections contains a number of subsections. You will need to revise the following topics:

For those taking the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test for Managers and Professionals, there are three additional subsections, namely CDM (Construction Design and Management Regulations), Demolition and Highway Works.

If you’re preparing for a specialist test, you will also need to do revision for the appropriate specialist activity. For instance, if you’re a potential worker in demolition or tunnelling, your test will contain additional questions about these activities. There are 12 specialist activities including:

  • Heating and Plumbing Services
  • Highway Works
  • Lifts and Escalators
  • Pipefitting and Welding
  • Plumbing (JIB)
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Services and Facilities Maintenance
  • Specialist Working at Height
  • Supervisory

How many questions are there in the CSCS Test?

The test consists of 50 questions. These will be selected randomly from a database of hundreds of official CITB questions from the key areas mentioned above. Like the real exam, the CSCS mock test above and all of the practice tests that we provide as part of our revision material consist of 50 questions.

What is the duration of the test?

The CSCS Test is a timed assessment. You will have 45 minutes to complete the test. A countdown timer in the corner of your screen will indicate how much time you have left. You should have ample time to answer each question and double-check them before finishing. It is important that you take your time and read each question carefully. If you spend an equal amount of time on each question, you will have just under a minute to answer each question.

Like the official test, the CSCS mock test above is also timed and you will have exactly 45 minutes to complete it. Our software also features a pause option allowing you to stop the timer if you need extra time to think about questions and answers. Please note that you won’t have this option in your real test.

What is the pass mark?

The pass mark for operatives and specialists is 45/50 (90%). The pass mark for managers and professionals is 46/50 (92%).

Can I take books or notes in with me when I sit the test?

No, the CITB health, safety and environment test isn’t an open-book exam so you’re not allowed to take any material in with you that may give you an unfair advantage. You must leave all of your belongings in the lockers provided prior to entering the examination area.

What types of questions are there?

You will come across six different types of questions in your test. These are:

  • Multiple choice
  • Multiple choice with images
  • Drag and drop text
  • Drag and drop images

The vast majority of the questions will be in the form of multiple-choice questions.

Is audio support available for questions and answers?

Yes, there is an option to book with English and Welsh voiceover if required. There is also the option of voice assistance in a number of European languages.

Our CSCS mock test offers voiceover support in English.

How do I check my CITB mock test results?

You can check the answers to your questions as you progress through the test. The CSCS mock test interface that we have built features a Check Answer button, allowing you to check if an answer you select is correct after answering. If you prefer you can wait until the end of the test to which questions you answered correctly and incorrectly. You will also be able to view how well you did in each category.

What are some tips to pass the test?

  • Make sure you get enough practice in and do plenty of revision in the weeks leading up to the test. Our practice and revision material has everything you need to pass the exam with flying colours.
  • Before you start the test, you will be given some time to get a feel of the computer software and user interface. Spend this time wisely and ask a member of staff if you’re unsure about anything.
  • After starting the test, ensure you read the question carefully and understand what it is asking. Read the question more than once.
  • Ensure you choose an answer for each question. If you’re not sure about an answer, take an educated guess and choose an option that you feel may be correct. Don’t leave any unanswered questions.
  • Make efficient use of your time. Remember you have 45 minutes to complete 50 questions. It is wise to spend an equal amount of time on each question. If you spend 45 seconds or less on each question, you will still have time at the end of your test to go through your answers and double-check them.
  • Don’t waste too much time on a question you’re struggling with. If you’re finding a question difficult, leave it and come back to it at a later stage.

What is the cost of the test?

As of 2023, the cost to sit a CSCS test is £22.50. Read more about the prices associated with the test here . You can pre-purchase vouchers at this price point to cover the cost of the test at the Pearson Vue website .

' src=

i really enjoyed the mock test

' src=

In my opinion you should keep practicing until you can confidently get 50/50 every time,

' src=

Hi, I am going to take the Labourer test, the mocks have helped as I have never been on a construction site, are there any more tests I can do than the ones you have there please or can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.

' src=

Very good how to get cscs card thanks

' src=

Very informative

' src=

Great mock test. Thank you

' src=

Just passed my MAP Test with flying colours, due in part to finding this website prior to booking my test and a near on 3-week delay for the actual appointment confirmation, probably due in part to the pandemic. I spent a good half-an-hour a day reviewing the material and completing the practise tests, and it clearly paid off. I would thoroughly recommend this site and the easy to use material – its just down to the individual to put the time in and make use of it.

' src=

took the mock test and passed very impressed

' src=

It good but was expecting questions on mental health issues and symptoms and questions about the recent additional problems with health and safety issues on construction sites

' src=

Very good better than book as you don’t have to flip or lose lines

' src=

I worked in the shipyards and construction sites also offshore or 25 years so this was my first attempt at these questions so I really should know all the answers but I’ve been away from my trade as a plater fabricator for 20 years.

' src=

I found the CSCS Tests to be brilliant practice and useful.

' src=

Very good mock test would recommend this before taking actual test

' src=

This was useful to remind me of the possible questions and the correct answers thank you

' src=

Found the test quite easy hope the real test is the same

' src=

Try and try again until you get it correct

' src=

49/50 Not bad. If the real test is like this, I give it a go.

' src=

Hi I have to retake my CSCS card test this weekend due to it running out this is more help to me than reading the book because I’m not paying attention really looking at the book doing the test a few times each day seem to be doing the trick thanks

' src=

Found the test easy and useful information, common sense to answering all the questions,

' src=

I think these exams are excellent and necessary for practice.

' src=

Hi I did fairly good

' src=

In am pleased with 49 I have been doing mock tests for 3 days, so repetitive testing is working for me. Read the wording of the questions carefully.

' src=

Good practical test I scored 49/ 50 I need to read questions carefully as I often rush and mis read the questions I’ve got a question does anyone know what site covers behavioral case studies that are a part of CSCS examination ? Need specific web site

' src=

That was not what expected I’m sure I’ll be alright in the test for The Construction Skills certificate scheme.

' src=

I’m surprised I could answer the majority of the questions at my first attempt.

' src=

This test has given me more confidence

Good selection but not enough for managers and professionals.

' src=

A good test course for new hires.

I am pleased with my first result with no revising

' src=

Question 28 answered correctly, but came out as incorrect? Great test practice, found it useful for retraining

Behavioural Case Study Questions

As of April 2012, the CSCS Test or what’s technically known as the CITB Health Safety and Environment Test has added a new feature called behavioural case study questions . With the core components of the original CSCS card test remaining the same, this new feature will test your reaction and behaviour towards different health and safety situations as they unfold on site.

cscs case study questions 2021

As we all know, a construction site can be a very dangerous place to work, hazards can develop in a matter of seconds and the way you respond and react to certain situations could make a big difference in the outcome.

The Health Safety and Environment Test lasts for 45 minutes and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions , 38 of these questions are in a basic multiple-choice format where you’re given a question and multiple possible answers to choose from; make sure you read the question carefully as some questions will require multiple answers. The remaining 12 questions will be the behavioural case study questions.

Regardless of which type of CSCS test you’re taking, whether it’s the normal operative test, specialist test or the test for managers and professionals, you’ll need to answer the same amount of behavioural case study questions (12) and the same amount of knowledge questions (38).

Even though it’s the same amount of questions the level of difficulty will vary accordingly so make sure you get the right revision book for your test.

These 12 behavioural case study questions are focused primarily on the 10 principles discussed in the short film “ Setting Out ”. This is an 11-minute video presentation that you’ll need to watch before taking the test, it goes into detail about the safety measures your employers need to take on your behalf and it also offers valuable tips and information on how you can do your part in maintaining a safe working environment.

Tip: you should pause the video at regular intervals to take your own revision notes.

How the behavioural case study questions work

In total there are 12 behavioural case study questions which are divided into 3 case studies, each case study consists of 4 multiple-choice questions. For each question you’ll have to follow along a fictional character as he/she encounters different safety-critical situations onsite, every time a situation arises you’ll have to choose the best possible answer then move forward; every answer you give will determine the next question or situation you face. Once you’ve selected an answer there’s no going back so make sure you’re completely satisfied with your answer before moving on.

Here’s a behavioural case study example (it’s not an actual question from the test, just an example of what a question will look like)

Mark’s about to start his first day on the job, when he arrives the site is completely empty. He should:

a. Start walking around the site and familiarize himself with what’s going on.

b. Wait for a member of management to arrive and give him an induction.

c. Start tidying up what others left behind the previous day.

d. Commence working to get an early start.

Correct Answer: B

When management finally arrives they inform Mark that work on this project is way behind schedule and assigns him to his area immediately. He should:

a. Proceed to his designated area and start working immediately.

b. Ask a colleague if there’s any hazard he should be aware of.

c. Request a site induction as he’ll need some basic information to carry out his work safely.

d. Visit different parts of the site on his own to familiarize himself with the different areas.

Correct Answer: C

During the site induction, Mark is given some notes regarding health and safety procedures onsite, there’s one particular part of the procedure he doesn’t understand. He should:

a. Worry about it later as they’re already running behind schedule.

b. Ask a fellow colleague to explain it in detail.

c. Return at the end of the day for further explanation.

d. Immediately request further clarification.

Correct Answer: D

After completing the induction, Mark is given a task that requires him to wear a dust mask but he can’t find one. He should:

a. Carry on without it.

b. Inform his supervisor

c. Use a colleague’s even though it is much bigger than what he needs.

d. Use a wet towel and cover his nose and mouth

I hope this brief explanation of the behavioural case study questions has shed some light on what you can expect from these 12 questions. Please use the example question above to familiarize yourself with the structure of these case study questions and keep practicing with our other CSCS mock test questions .

CSCS Domain Breakdown

The following section breaks down the subjects covered on the CSCS exam. Candidates must have a clear understanding to successfully pass their Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam.

Success on the CSCS exam hinges on successfully completing these requirements.

You need to score a passing grade on every single section, so if you fail one part, you will fail the whole exam regardless of your final score across all domains and answers.

Domain 1: Exercise Science

This section forms the bulk of the scientific foundations section and includes key topics like metabolism, the cardiorespiratory, skeletal, muscular, and endocrine system.

You’ll get deep knowledge of hormones including growth hormone, testosterone, and more. Additionally, this section covers signs of overtraining you need to monitor in your athletes.

This section spans a ton of science knowledge and is very challenging. You will need to take extensive notes, especially if you do not have an exercise science background, you’ll need to pull out all of our CSCS study tips and tricks to ensure you pass the exam.

Domain 2: Sport Psychology

Sport psychology receives a lesser emphasis on the CSCS exam, but that does not mean it is less important since you still need a passing score on this section. In fact, you can’t afford to miss many of these questions, so if anything, you need an even deeper knowledge of this topic.

This section includes psychological discussions about the fight or flight responses, arousal states in athletes, and even watching for eating disorders in your athletes.

Managing arousal and relaxation with your athletes is a must for ensuring effective performance, and the questions definitely place an emphasis on these skill sets, among a variety others.

Domain 3: Nutrition

The CSCS nutrition section focuses on the key nutritional needs for performance in athletes. This includes daily macronutrient and micronutrient requirements, and nutritional factors affecting performance.

It also covers methods for how to advise athletes on food choices based on their sport and specific goals, such as muscle gains, weight loss, recovery, or competition performance.

This is one of the spots on the CSCS curriculum you cannot afford to skip over because there are a lot of numbers and calculations you will be expected to know in order to achieve completion of your exam and earn your CSCS certificate, complete with the NSCA logo and stamp of approval.

Domain 4: Exercise Technique

This section dives deep on the different exercise techniques and training modes you need to train athletes and clients and links them to performance and other fitness goals.

The curriculum includes bodyweight training like push-ups, as well as traditional strength training with barbells, dumbbells, and machines. It also covers alternative implement training with kettlebells and strongman implement training.

Of course, it also covers field drills for agility, sprinting, and plyometric training.

It’s great to have as many exercise options as possible when training athletes to ensure their success and your ability to modify your programs to work with each athlete’s unique needs.

This CSCS exam section includes videos of exercise techniques that you must assess for proper form and corrections if needed.

Domain 5: Program Design

Program design is among the most important and broad topics in the practical section. Programming is key to the success of any training program.

The CSCS coverage looks at microcycles, mesocycles, and macrocycles that form the basis for science-backed program design to progress athletes toward their performance goals.

Domain 6: Organization and Administration

The organization and administration section covers the various aspects of running a strength and conditioning facility as well as general liability for running facilities.

This is very important for ensuring the safety of your athletes and avoiding liability issues with regard to training athletes and providing these services at the professional level.

After all, each person you train places their life in your hands, so ensuring safety is a must.

Domain 7: Testing and Evaluation

Testing and evaluation are key for establishing baseline performance in athletes and determining what you need to focus on within your training programs.

This is another area on the CSCS exam where the number of questions is smaller, which can trick you into thinking that you can spend less time on it.

However, in reality, it means you cannot afford to miss many of them and still pass the exam, so absolutely ensure you can pass this domain when you take the CSCS practice test.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the cscs exam hard.

While the CSCS online course is no walk in the park, the CSCS can be quite a challenging test as well. Its pass rate is right around 56%, so you are almost as likely to pass your first test as you are to fail. The percentage needed to pass is 70%, which is generally considered generous as far as certifications go. The CSCS test questions are known to be more challenging than simply defining what something is or simple true and false questions. So, the CSCS is considered to be a long and challenging test, so you will need to pay attention.

How many questions are there in the CSCS exams, and what is a passing grade?

The CSCS exam is split into two sections. Section one has 80 scored questions and 15 questions that are not scored. The second section of the test is made up of 110 scored questions and 15 non-scored questions. The total number of CSCS questions is 220, and these are all multiple-choice questions. A passing score on the exam is a 70%. It is a good idea to take CSCS mock tests and really examine the CSCS practice questions test.

Where can you take the CSCS exam?

You can take the mock test CSCS and the regular test at the nearest Pearson VUE testing center. There are several of these centers throughout the nation. Make sure to look into the Pearson site to find the closest one to you, and check the calendar for CSCS test dates. There will be many CSCS exam dates to choose from, so be sure it fits in your schedule and that you are ready to test.

What happens if you fail the CSCS exam?

You have a slightly higher chance of passing than failing, but still, it is a high chance of not passing. For this, consider the option of a retake. To qualify for a retake, you have to wait 90 days to retake the exam since the last time it was taken. You can register for a retake 5 days after a failed exam. The option to take the exam again is unlimited. You will only need to resubmit the AED/CPR information if it has expired. One really good thing is, if you only fail one of the sections, you will only need to retake it, not the other one, so it is important to note that.

How long after the exam will I receive the certificate?

After the NSCA CSCS exam has been completed and passed, you will receive the certification package in 6 – 8 working weeks. The certificate is not available in any form online.

How long is the certification valid?

The certification is good for 3 whole years from the date of passing the CSCS exam. The exam will need to be retaken before this certification expires. If the certification has expired, you may petition for being reinstated as long as you have all of the CEU during the normal period of 3 years, you submitted proof of them being earned, you have a verified and current AED/CPR certification, and you have paid the reinstatement and recertification fees in the right time frame.

How much does the CSCS exam cost?

For a member of the NSCA, the exam registration fee is 340 dollars, the retake for both sections is 340 dollars, and the retake fee for just one section is 250 dollars. For someone who is not a member, the exam registration fee is 475 dollars, the retake fee for both sections is 475 dollars, and the retake fee is 385 dollars for just one section.

Where can I find more study materials and test prep for the CSCS?

CSCS online study guides are helpful for preparation. When studying for CSCS, it is important to get as many CSCS practice exam questions as you can, as the material is quite challenging. The strength and conditioning test from NSCA is challenging, and you can’t go wrong with additional study materials offered here on Trainer Academy, and also the free study materials from PTpioneer.

What other study materials can I use to prepare for the CSCS?

Studying for the CSCS NSCA offers can be challenging and requires a good amount of time to prepare. I offer some great resources here at Trainer Academy. The paid CSCS exam study guide will ensure a passing grade. We also offer support study materials such as CSCS flashcards and audio guides in the paid study systems. If you want to check out more free study items and CSCS prep, PTPioneer has excellent CSCS study materials and CSCS study questions. It is important to get as much CSCS exam prep as possible. They also have NASM materials and much more.

The last study tip I have for you for the CSCS exam is to use memorization mnemonics, which can really work wonders for difficult-to-remember topics from the textbook.

This is an excellent way for students to take the education and hammer it home with details that anyone, everyone, and all individuals and learners can utilize to ensure the CSCS training courses have the intended effect: passing the CSCS exam.

Another great technique is using spaced repetition flashcards.

These use an algorithm to learn which flashcards you already know and which flashcards you have trouble with.

Implementing these into your studies makes it easier for you to pass your final exam and earn your precious strength and conditioning cert.

If you want to become a personal trainer , then I recommend the NSCA-CPT, but also the following:

  • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • American Council on Exercise (ACE)
  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA)

These are all rated as some of the best personal trainer certifications .

For example, take a look through some of the personal trainer certification practice preparation from NASM vs. ACE .

  • NASM study guide
  • NASM practice test
  • ACE study guide
  • ACE practice test

There are also more great materials and exam information found when exploring NASM vs. ISSA .

One good thing about exam cheat sheets is that they reduce the overall time it takes to become a personal trainer, or in this case, a strength and conditioning coach.

They are all accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which is a non-profit organization and the gold standard accreditation in the fitness industry.

NCCA-accredited certifications also open the door to many great career opportunities.

In case you want to become a nutrition coach , there are plenty of nutrition certifications to choose from.

It’s also worth sharing that having more than just a personal trainer certification will increase your overall personal trainer salary .

Areas similar to fitness and wellness and maximizing performance is always expanding, hence why the personal trainer job outlook is expected to continue to flourish.

Even if you want to become a group exercise instructor , there are a ton of group fitness certifications up for grabs.

Just do your research.

And with the popularity of the internet, I wouldn’t be surprised if you want to become an online personal trainer .

If you put your mind to it, and you want to make money as a personal trainer, then there’s no question you’ll make it as a successful online trainer .

Overall, the NSCA CSCS is one of my all-time favorite strength and conditioning courses, and I hope my article taught you a lot more.

My Experience helping students pass the CSCS exam

The National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA CSCS) is the most reputable strength and conditioning certification in the United States and is a requirement for most collegiate, high school, and general strength and conditioning.

This article provides a comprehensive practice CSCS exam based on my experience helping thousands of students become NSCA CSCS-certified. It covers virtually everything you need to effectively prepare for your CSCS final test.

What is the CSCS exam?

The CSCS exam is the final hurdle to becoming certified as strength and conditioning specialist and kicking off your athletic performance coaching career. The test itself is incredibly rigorous. It is NCCA-accredited to ensure it meets the highest standards of skills and knowledge. However, the test goes above and beyond virtually any other NCCA-accredited exam in terms of its difficulty and preparation requirements.

Good mock test

I’m glad you liked it. How did you get on?

Very good test

How did you do?

thanks, where to find answers

Answers are at the bottom

I can’t find them the amswers

The answers will be revealed after you click one of the sharing icons.

I’ve tried to share a few times, and still no answers. Any suggestions?

What happens to the page after you share?

Good test but unable to view answers even though using link requirements

What happened James?

Really good mock?

Thanks Harry.

is this mock for operators or Managers

This is a mixture of questions that you would face taking the CSCS Test, something for everyone to get a feel for the type of questions.

48/50 not bad for first go

That would be a pass in the real exam!

Very good, got 44 out of 50.

You did better than me brah, lemme try again.

Brilliant mock exam, I got 45 on my first go, will be revision a little more before the real exam

Thanks, how did you get on??

Thanks for the test, Im managed to get 47/50 on my first attempt. Thank you

Good Test – cant find the answers though – even after sharing

My score sucked big time when I took this test earlier. Not a very good sign for taking on the actual exam. At least now, I have something to practice on during my break periods. These questions really showed me that I need to put more effort in order for me to get a satisfactory score. Thank you for sharing this!

Got 42/50. Not happy about it. The questions don’t switch places when I refresh the page, right? It would be very helpful if it did…

This is super handy! After taking the mock exam, I knew which topics I still have to work on. I didn’t get a good mark on my first run, but I’ll do better next time.

Well I got only 36 out of 50 right. I have a ways to go buddy. Let’s try this again.

Great construction skills test. This is a must for people trying to enter the construction industry. Will share this with my brother because that’s what he’s trying to do.

This is very helpful key questions and answers, will share on twitter and facebook!

This is great information. I was just wondering, if for some reason I don’t pass the first time of the actual exam, will I be able to retake it immediately?

Although my result wasn’t that promising, i have to admit that this is such a good mock test

BUMMER! I only got 39 right. Back to the drawing board.

This is great information. I have a few buddies I will share this with who are trying to get into the construction industry.

This is just what i need to brush up on my fire extinguisher knowledge. I sure hope this will help me pass.

Those mock test questions are more difficult than I expected them to be. I guess I have to put more effort into my review for the real thing. Thank you for sharing this!

Hey my score isn’t that great. Are you coming up with another set? Is this like similar to the questions on the actual exam?

I’ve sadly discovered that I was wrong in more than 50% in this test. This is really disencouraging, but good job on the test questions. Mocked for real

I would suggest to make the choices clickable. It would be like the viewers are taking thh exam.

We have created some exams like that and more to come in the furture

I copied the questions on the piece of paper as a reference for future review. I did not expect that the questions will be like these. It is very helpful, Thank you!

I would just like to thank you for this questions. They’re really a big help in preparing for the exams. My score isn’t that good, so I have to go over my notes again!

Thanks guys for these questions. Big help before the big day! Good luck everyone!

Good luck to you too!

All the questions are very important. I hope you guys will keep providing more as i am already done with them. Thanks.

Man this site is jam-packed with great mocks! Just what I needed to get my study on!

wow this is such a good mock exam! I had fun answering it

Thank you for all these questions and answers. This is really helpful for my practice exams.

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for for a while. I will definitely share this mock test to my colleagues. Thanks a lot!

grrrhh I got some obvious ones wrong that I should have known. So glad this is only a test!

Well 48 out of 50 ain’t bad :p but i want that 50!

How many do you need to get to pass?

Which extinguisher of the following is best used for an electrical fire? a. Wet Chemica b. Foam c. CO2 d. Water

Now this got me confused.. I saw it somewhere else that Foam is the right answer to this question and Its CO2 on yours.

Foam is mainly used for Class A: SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc and Class B: FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc

You really do not want to put anything liquid on electrics!

Foam is mainly for Fuel powered fire, which is class B.

Foam can be used for class A (which is wood, paper, textile, plastic, …) too though

Agreed but they were talking about electrical.

very good test

The link buttons reveal an error when mouse is hovered over them

VERY GOOD MOCK EXAM.. INTHIS TEST EXAM I GOT 45.. I’M HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES HOW CAN I GET CSCS CARD FOR TRANSMISSION TOWER ERECTOR OR SCAFOLDING ERECTOR.

done test shared on facebook but no answers appeared ?

he questions seems pretty impressive, thanks admin for your effort on this. I hope these are the similar questions to the one we’re going to answer as i have mine later in the day.

Is a very good mock test that you need to try before the test.

48 out of 50 just goes to show us old timers can still get it wrong ha ha good test though.

i counlt find answers

See if you can see them now at the bottom of the page

I get 50 out of 50 hope I get a pass in the next test.thanks

My first attempt score 40/50 I think I will be fine after few touches.

Finally getting 50/50 thanks very good way to practice

this test is great it lets you know the ones you get wrong

I have my test in a weeks time so just brushing up 46 out of 50 is that a pass

Good material. Thank you

Test tomorrow without this I would have failed

Great test to check what you should know on site

49/50 Test booked in Portsmouth today 3.30. Moving forward.

Excellent interactive mock tests, and an excellent revision aid, they will have been invaluable when I sit my HSE TEST to renew my cpcs card. Thanks.

Glad to hear you liked the tests

good mock test

I cant get the answers to show up. Some of the questions were worded pretty poorly too:

29.A sign that shows a fire and finger pressing a button in red and white means?

A. The area is a fire assembly point B. The area has a fire extinguisher C. There is a fire alarm happening D. B and C

Im guessing its C because its the only thing to do with a fire alarm, but it doesnt mean an alarm is happening?

Thanks for pointing this out, we have edited the post.

What a waste of time i can’t get the answer even though i shared it on every platform. thank for the help construction skill test?

Thank your for pointing this issue out, we have now resolved it and you should be able to get your answers.

50/50 every time I think I’m ready

48/50 Test booked tomorrow 2.30. Moving forward.

Good luck for tomorrow Neil

According your test’s question 1, the site that has got Prohibition Notice does not need to undergo review (as you marked the answer D – all personnell need to cease the site/work – that I am not denying that is wrong), which could be quite misleading or not very clear answer/solution in this case in my eyes. You can find A as the correct answers to this question in other cscs tests. Are you sure with your choise D as the only correct answer here?

In a way both answers are correct, but the question only needs one answer. So you have to think which would be the answer they are looking for when they ask this question. After a Prohibition notice is given the first thing that needs to happen is everyone will need to stop work. After that then yes they would need to have a review but that cannot happen first.

Hope this helps. All questions have come from real CSCS exams.

Agreed Some of the “answers” are in fact incorrect-trust me-I am a fully qualified H and S Auditor with NEBOSH Dip.

As stated before these questions and answers have come from REAL CSCS Exams. To save on anymore arguments about this we have edited the question to select two answers.

what is the failed test highest number or the lowest number for a pass

The pass mark for the exam is 47 out of 50

question 39. lifting a load, it is impossible to lift a load with a straight back if the load is on the floor. The question does not indicate where the load is situated so the answer could be B it would have to be at the waist to shoulder height to lift with a straight back as in a bear hug type of lift.

This is the way some CSCS questions are, these are the questions you will get in the real exam so you will have to pick which you think is best. As it is best to avoid picking up loads from the floor you should think about it from that viewpoint.

Helpful material

Is this for the actual CSCS health, safety & environmental test for operatives as of 2017

Hi Ethan, this is a mock exam for the 2017 year yes.

Try Another CSCS Question of the Day

Correct Answer: (A) Decrease

Explanation: Static stretching has been shown to decrease force production, power performance, running speed, reaction time, and strength endurance.

These CSCS exam practice questions were created to help users study for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification exam from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Using CSCS exam practice questions is an efficient way to study the most relevant material for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. CSCS exam practice questions can help you to remember important concepts and test your knowledge of the material in a no-pressure environment. The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist designates that a fitness professional has the scientific and practical knowledge necessary to assist athletes to improve their physical performance.

If you’re like most strength and conditioning specialists, chances are that you like sports and you have a competitive mindset. For people who are competitive, doing practice questions is awesome because 1) they like to win, and 2) the sting of getting a question wrong burns the correct answer into the mind of a competitive person unlike any other learning method.

The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is a four-hour-long, pencil and paper or computer-based examination. The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam has two sections: “Scientific Foundations” and “Practical / Applied.” Each of these sections consist of questions that the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) feels are relevant to test the knowledge and experience of a candidate for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) professional credential. Certified strength conditioning specialist comprehensive questions from the Scientific Foundations section include anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. certified strength conditioning specialist comprehensive questions from the Practical / Applied section include program design, exercise techniques, testing and evaluation, and organization / administration (NSCA, 2015).
