Citing Sources in APA Style

The purpose of citing is (1) to give credit to the original author, and (2) enable the reader to find the source. The American Psychological Association (APA) citation style is widely used in business school courses. You may find general guidelines in:

  • APA Style Guide: OWL at Excelsior

The APA Style Manual doesn't address directly how to cite business-type sources from library databases, such as analyst reports, market research reports, industry profiles, etc. These sources may not have the same citation elements as books, journal articles, or open access websites:

  • Reports often don't list a named individual author. In this case, the name of the publisher or organization that produced information will serve as a corporate author.
  • URLs from the address bar for the content in library databases may be too long, inaccessible to readers because of a firewall, or expire after a session. If the URL is not accessible, use the name of a database.
  • The APA Style Manual no longer requires the date the information is retrieved.

Suggested Format for Citing Reports in APA style:

Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of document . Publisher [optional]. Retrieved from [database name].

NOTE:   Use Publisher / Contributor / Organization Name:

  • Only if this name is different from the database name and there is a named personal author
  • As a corporate author at the beginning of the citation, if no personal author is listed

How to Build an APA Citation for a Report

You may easily create your own APA citation once you identify appropriate elements of a document for citing.

EXAMPLE 1: A report with a named author, produced by S&P Capital IQ McGraw Hill Financial and retrieved from the S&P Capital IQ NetAdvantage database

CITATION:  Holt, D. (2016, March). Industry surveys: Electronic equipment & instruments . Retrieved from S&P Capital IQ NetAdvantage.

EXAMPLE 2:  A report without a named author, produced by Euromonitor International, and retrieved from the Passport database.  The name of the publisher is used as a corporate author.

CITATION: Euromonitor International. (2016, September). Wearable electronics in the US . Retrieved from Passport database.

NOTE: Always check with your professor for specific citation guidelines.

How to Cite Sources | Citation Generator & Quick Guide

Citing your sources is essential in  academic writing . Whenever you quote or paraphrase a source (such as a book, article, or webpage), you have to include a  citation crediting the original author.

Failing to properly cite your sources counts as plagiarism , since you’re presenting someone else’s ideas as if they were your own.

The most commonly used citation styles are APA and MLA. The free Scribbr Citation Generator is the quickest way to cite sources in these styles. Simply enter the URL, DOI, or title, and we’ll generate an accurate, correctly formatted citation.

Citations are required in all types of academic texts. They are needed for several reasons:

  • To avoid plagiarism by indicating when you’re taking information from another source
  • To give proper credit to the author of that source
  • To allow the reader to consult your sources for themselves

A citation is needed whenever you integrate a source into your writing. This usually means quoting or paraphrasing:

  • To quote a source , copy a short piece of text word for word and put it inside quotation marks .
  • To paraphrase a source , put the text into your own words. It’s important that the paraphrase is not too close to the original wording. You can use the paraphrasing tool if you don’t want to do this manually.

Citations are needed whether you quote or paraphrase, and whatever type of source you use. As well as citing scholarly sources like books and journal articles, don’t forget to include citations for any other sources you use for ideas, examples, or evidence. That includes websites, YouTube videos , and lectures .

Usually, your institution (or the journal you’re submitting to) will require you to follow a specific citation style, so check your guidelines or ask your instructor.

In some cases, you may have to choose a citation style for yourself. Make sure to pick one style and use it consistently:

  • APA Style is widely used in the social sciences and beyond.
  • MLA style is common in the humanities.
  • Chicago notes and bibliography , common in the humanities
  • Chicago author-date , used in the (social) sciences
  • There are many other citation styles for different disciplines.

If in doubt, check with your instructor or read other papers from your field of study to see what style they follow.

In most styles, your citations consist of:

  • Brief in-text citations at the relevant points in the text
  • A reference list or bibliography containing full information on all the sources you’ve cited

In-text citations most commonly take the form of parenthetical citations featuring the last name of the source’s author and its year of publication (aka author-date citations).

An alternative to this type of in-text citation is the system used in numerical citation styles , where a number is inserted into the text, corresponding to an entry in a numbered reference list.

There are also note citation styles , where you place your citations in either footnotes or endnotes . Since they’re not embedded in the text itself, these citations can provide more detail and sometimes aren’t accompanied by a full reference list or bibliography.

A reference list (aka “Bibliography” or “Works Cited,” depending on the style) is where you provide full information on each of the sources you’ve cited in the text. It appears at the end of your paper, usually with a hanging indent applied to each entry.

The information included in reference entries is broadly similar, whatever citation style you’re using. For each source, you’ll typically include the:

  • Author name
  • Publication date
  • Container (e.g., the book an essay was published in, the journal an article appeared in)
  • Location (e.g., a URL or DOI , or sometimes a physical location)

The exact information included varies depending on the source type and the citation style. The order in which the information appears, and how you format it (e.g., capitalization, use of italics) also varies.

Most commonly, the entries in your reference list are alphabetized by author name. This allows the reader to easily find the relevant entry based on the author name in your in-text citation.

APA-reference-list

In numerical citation styles, the entries in your reference list are numbered, usually based on the order in which you cite them. The reader finds the right entry based on the number that appears in the text.

Because each style has many small differences regarding things like italicization, capitalization , and punctuation , it can be difficult to get every detail right. Using a citation generator can save you a lot of time and effort.

Scribbr offers citation generators for both APA and MLA style. Both are quick, easy to use, and 100% free, with no ads and no registration required.

Just input a URL or DOI or add the source details manually, and the generator will automatically produce an in-text citation and reference entry in the correct format. You can save your reference list as you go and download it when you’re done, and even add annotations for an annotated bibliography .

Once you’ve prepared your citations, you might still be unsure if they’re correct and if you’ve used them appropriately in your text. This is where Scribbr’s other citation tools and services may come in handy:

Plagiarism means passing off someone else’s words or ideas as your own. It’s a serious offense in academia. Universities use plagiarism checking software to scan your paper and identify any similarities to other texts.

When you’re dealing with a lot of sources, it’s easy to make mistakes that could constitute accidental plagiarism. For example, you might forget to add a citation after a quote, or paraphrase a source in a way that’s too close to the original text.

Using a plagiarism checker yourself before you submit your work can help you spot these mistakes before they get you in trouble. Based on the results, you can add any missing citations and rephrase your text where necessary.

At college level, you must properly cite your sources in all essays , research papers , and other academic texts (except exams and in-class exercises).

Add a citation whenever you quote , paraphrase , or summarize information or ideas from a source. You should also give full source details in a bibliography or reference list at the end of your text.

The exact format of your citations depends on which citation style you are instructed to use. The most common styles are APA , MLA , and Chicago .

The abbreviation “ et al. ” (Latin for “and others”) is used to shorten citations of sources with multiple authors.

“Et al.” is used in APA in-text citations of sources with 3+ authors, e.g. (Smith et al., 2019). It is not used in APA reference entries .

Use “et al.” for 3+ authors in MLA in-text citations and Works Cited entries.

Use “et al.” for 4+ authors in a Chicago in-text citation , and for 10+ authors in a Chicago bibliography entry.

The Scribbr Citation Generator is developed using the open-source Citation Style Language (CSL) project and Frank Bennett’s citeproc-js . It’s the same technology used by dozens of other popular citation tools, including Mendeley and Zotero.

You can find all the citation styles and locales used in the Scribbr Citation Generator in our publicly accessible repository on Github .

APA format is widely used by professionals, researchers, and students in the social and behavioral sciences, including fields like education, psychology, and business.

Be sure to check the guidelines of your university or the journal you want to be published in to double-check which style you should be using.

MLA Style  is the second most used citation style (after APA ). It is mainly used by students and researchers in humanities fields such as literature, languages, and philosophy.

APA Citations

The American Psychological Association (APA) style guide is commonly used in business writing. The tools listed below provide examples on how to cite common sources like newspaper articles, journal articles, and books.

Cite twice! Once in the text of your writing and another in a list of references at the end of your work.

In text citation example:

Llamas affinity for peppermint lollipops as opposed to cinnamon is well documented (Perkins & Fowler, 1985).

Alternatively:

According to Perkins and Fowler (1985), llamas prefer peppermint lollipops over cinnamon at a rate of 5 to 1.

How to Cite Sources

Here is a complete list for how to cite sources. Most of these guides present citation guidance and examples in MLA, APA, and Chicago.

If you’re looking for general information on MLA or APA citations , the EasyBib Writing Center was designed for you! It has articles on what’s needed in an MLA in-text citation , how to format an APA paper, what an MLA annotated bibliography is, making an MLA works cited page, and much more!

MLA Format Citation Examples

The Modern Language Association created the MLA Style, currently in its 9th edition, to provide researchers with guidelines for writing and documenting scholarly borrowings.  Most often used in the humanities, MLA style (or MLA format ) has been adopted and used by numerous other disciplines, in multiple parts of the world.

MLA provides standard rules to follow so that most research papers are formatted in a similar manner. This makes it easier for readers to comprehend the information. The MLA in-text citation guidelines, MLA works cited standards, and MLA annotated bibliography instructions provide scholars with the information they need to properly cite sources in their research papers, articles, and assignments.

APA Format Citation Examples

The American Psychological Association created the APA citation style in 1929 as a way to help psychologists, anthropologists, and even business managers establish one common way to cite sources and present content.

APA is used when citing sources for academic articles such as journals, and is intended to help readers better comprehend content, and to avoid language bias wherever possible. The APA style (or APA format ) is now in its 7th edition, and provides citation style guides for virtually any type of resource.

Chicago Style Citation Examples

The Chicago/Turabian style of citing sources is generally used when citing sources for humanities papers, and is best known for its requirement that writers place bibliographic citations at the bottom of a page (in Chicago-format footnotes ) or at the end of a paper (endnotes).

The Turabian and Chicago citation styles are almost identical, but the Turabian style is geared towards student published papers such as theses and dissertations, while the Chicago style provides guidelines for all types of publications. This is why you’ll commonly see Chicago style and Turabian style presented together. The Chicago Manual of Style is currently in its 17th edition, and Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations is in its 8th edition.

6 Interesting Citation Facts

The world of citations may seem cut and dry, but there’s more to them than just specific capitalization rules, MLA in-text citations , and other formatting specifications. Citations have been helping researches document their sources for hundreds of years, and are a great way to learn more about a particular subject area.

Ever wonder what sets all the different styles apart, or how they came to be in the first place? Read on for some interesting facts about citations!

1. There are Over 7,000 Different Citation Styles

You may be familiar with MLA and APA citation styles, but there are actually thousands of citation styles used for all different academic disciplines all across the world. Deciding which one to use can be difficult, so be sure to ask you instructor which one you should be using for your next paper.

2. Some Citation Styles are Named After People

While a majority of citation styles are named for the specific organizations that publish them (i.e. APA is published by the American Psychological Association, and MLA format is named for the Modern Language Association), some are actually named after individuals. The most well-known example of this is perhaps Turabian style, named for Kate L. Turabian, an American educator and writer. She developed this style as a condensed version of the Chicago Manual of Style in order to present a more concise set of rules to students.

3. There are Some Really Specific and Uniquely Named Citation Styles

How specific can citation styles get? The answer is very. For example, the “Flavour and Fragrance Journal” style is based on a bimonthly, peer-reviewed scientific journal published since 1985 by John Wiley & Sons. It publishes original research articles, reviews and special reports on all aspects of flavor and fragrance. Another example is “Nordic Pulp and Paper Research,” a style used by an international scientific magazine covering science and technology for the areas of wood or bio-mass constituents.

4. More citations were created on  EasyBib.com  in the first quarter of 2018 than there are people in California.

The US Census Bureau estimates that approximately 39.5 million people live in the state of California. Meanwhile, about 43 million citations were made on EasyBib from January to March of 2018. That’s a lot of citations.

5. “Citations” is a Word With a Long History

The word “citations” can be traced back literally thousands of years to the Latin word “citare” meaning “to summon, urge, call; put in sudden motion, call forward; rouse, excite.” The word then took on its more modern meaning and relevance to writing papers in the 1600s, where it became known as the “act of citing or quoting a passage from a book, etc.”

6. Citation Styles are Always Changing

The concept of citations always stays the same. It is a means of preventing plagiarism and demonstrating where you relied on outside sources. The specific style rules, however, can and do change regularly. For example, in 2018 alone, 46 new citation styles were introduced , and 106 updates were made to exiting styles. At EasyBib, we are always on the lookout for ways to improve our styles and opportunities to add new ones to our list.

Why Citations Matter

Here are the ways accurate citations can help your students achieve academic success, and how you can answer the dreaded question, “why should I cite my sources?”

They Give Credit to the Right People

Citing their sources makes sure that the reader can differentiate the student’s original thoughts from those of other researchers. Not only does this make sure that the sources they use receive proper credit for their work, it ensures that the student receives deserved recognition for their unique contributions to the topic. Whether the student is citing in MLA format , APA format , or any other style, citations serve as a natural way to place a student’s work in the broader context of the subject area, and serve as an easy way to gauge their commitment to the project.

They Provide Hard Evidence of Ideas

Having many citations from a wide variety of sources related to their idea means that the student is working on a well-researched and respected subject. Citing sources that back up their claim creates room for fact-checking and further research . And, if they can cite a few sources that have the converse opinion or idea, and then demonstrate to the reader why they believe that that viewpoint is wrong by again citing credible sources, the student is well on their way to winning over the reader and cementing their point of view.

They Promote Originality and Prevent Plagiarism

The point of research projects is not to regurgitate information that can already be found elsewhere. We have Google for that! What the student’s project should aim to do is promote an original idea or a spin on an existing idea, and use reliable sources to promote that idea. Copying or directly referencing a source without proper citation can lead to not only a poor grade, but accusations of academic dishonesty. By citing their sources regularly and accurately, students can easily avoid the trap of plagiarism , and promote further research on their topic.

They Create Better Researchers

By researching sources to back up and promote their ideas, students are becoming better researchers without even knowing it! Each time a new source is read or researched, the student is becoming more engaged with the project and is developing a deeper understanding of the subject area. Proper citations demonstrate a breadth of the student’s reading and dedication to the project itself. By creating citations, students are compelled to make connections between their sources and discern research patterns. Each time they complete this process, they are helping themselves become better researchers and writers overall.

When is the Right Time to Start Making Citations?

Make in-text/parenthetical citations as you need them.

As you are writing your paper, be sure to include references within the text that correspond with references in a works cited or bibliography. These are usually called in-text citations or parenthetical citations in MLA and APA formats. The most effective time to complete these is directly after you have made your reference to another source. For instance, after writing the line from Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities : “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…,” you would include a citation like this (depending on your chosen citation style):

(Dickens 11).

This signals to the reader that you have referenced an outside source. What’s great about this system is that the in-text citations serve as a natural list for all of the citations you have made in your paper, which will make completing the works cited page a whole lot easier. After you are done writing, all that will be left for you to do is scan your paper for these references, and then build a works cited page that includes a citation for each one.

Need help creating an MLA works cited page ? Try the MLA format generator on EasyBib.com! We also have a guide on how to format an APA reference page .

2. Understand the General Formatting Rules of Your Citation Style Before You Start Writing

While reading up on paper formatting may not sound exciting, being aware of how your paper should look early on in the paper writing process is super important. Citation styles can dictate more than just the appearance of the citations themselves, but rather can impact the layout of your paper as a whole, with specific guidelines concerning margin width, title treatment, and even font size and spacing. Knowing how to organize your paper before you start writing will ensure that you do not receive a low grade for something as trivial as forgetting a hanging indent.

Don’t know where to start? Here’s a formatting guide on APA format .

3. Double-check All of Your Outside Sources for Relevance and Trustworthiness First

Collecting outside sources that support your research and specific topic is a critical step in writing an effective paper. But before you run to the library and grab the first 20 books you can lay your hands on, keep in mind that selecting a source to include in your paper should not be taken lightly. Before you proceed with using it to backup your ideas, run a quick Internet search for it and see if other scholars in your field have written about it as well. Check to see if there are book reviews about it or peer accolades. If you spot something that seems off to you, you may want to consider leaving it out of your work. Doing this before your start making citations can save you a ton of time in the long run.

Finished with your paper? It may be time to run it through a grammar and plagiarism checker , like the one offered by EasyBib Plus. If you’re just looking to brush up on the basics, our grammar guides  are ready anytime you are.

Citations - APA Style

Most style manuals are written with papers and research articles in mind--not PowerPoint presentations. Thus, they do not specify how to format and style presentation slides. For your Grand Rounds presentations, the following guidelines are recommended if you decide to use APA style for your presentation. These tips are based on the 7th edition APA Publication Manual. Remember, it is not important which style you choose (APA or AMA) for this presentation, just consistently use the same style throughout.

Example Citation for Journal Article

Example of a citation in APA format

Some things to note about APA citations:

  • Author names do not include first name in full; they are in format Author, A. A., Author, B. B., etc.
  • For article titles, only the first letter of the first word of the title is capitalized. Exceptions to this general rule include capitalizations for proper nouns and words that follow certain punctuation. See the APA Publication Manual or the Purdue Owl: APA Overview for more details.
  • The journal title is Italicized and capitalized. Do not abbreviate the journal title.
  • The volume number is Italicized.
  • Include a DOI if one is available. Every DOI begins with https://doi.org/. If the article does not have a DOI then a URL is acceptable. If the article is not available online then do not include a link.

Reference List

At the end of your presentation there should be a reference list. This list should include a complete citation for every resource that you cited in your presentation. The following are some of the guidelines for reference lists included in the 7th edition APA Publication Manual.

  • Reference lists should be alphabetized.
  • Each entry should be presented with hanging indentation; i.e., all lines after the first should be indented.
  • For multiple articles by the same author--or authors listed in the same order--arrange the articles in chronological order.
  • Include references for images or graphics used in your presentation that came from outside of PowerPoint.

For more guidelines, see the 7th edition APA Publication Manual or the Purdue OWL: APA Overview .

In-Text Citations

It is not necessary to include a full citation in the body of your presentation when referencing others' work, however it is important to include a brief in-text citation so people will be able to easily identify the full citation from your references list.

Dogs with transitional cell carcinoma are useful models for humans with invasive bladder cancer (Mutsaers et al., 2003).

The following entry would then appear in the list of references at the end of the presentation.

Mutsaers, A. J., Widmer, W. R., & Knapp, D. W. (2003) Canine transitional cell carcinoma. Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine , 17(2), 136-144. https://doi.org/10.111/j.1939-1676.2003.tbo242.x

Example of Image Citation

Citations for images and figures used in your presentation that were taken from other sources can simply be cited several ways. A brief citation can be included with the image and a full citation listed on the references page. Or you can include the full citation with the image. Note that images sourced from PowerPoint clipart or charts you create do not need a citation.

dog with cone

Photo by  Priscilla Du Preez  on  Unsplash

The full citation would be:

Du Preez, P. (2020). [Black pug wearing recovery cone] [Photograph]. Unsplash. https://unsplash.com/photos/2hc6ocDAsNY

This could be included directly with the image in place of the brief citation or it could be included in the reference list. Note that this image did not have a given title so a created title is included in brackets. The tag "Photograph," placed in brackets, is added following the title.

APA Style Resources

Cover Art

  • Purdue OWL: APA Overview An overview of APA (American Psychological Association) style provided by the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University. Gives extensive examples for materials cited in reference lists.

Citation Managers

The ISU Library supports several bibliographic management tools. These tools are very helpful in organizing your citations and preparing reference lists. The following guides can help you learn how to use these tools.

  • Mendeley Guide
  • EndNote and EndNote Web Guide
  • Zotero Guide

APA PowerPoint Tutorial

Citation Generators

Many databases, library catalogs, citation software, and other online services provide options to automatically generate citations for you. These can be useful tools in preparing your list of references. However, it is important to review each reference generated in this manner to ensure that it includes the correct information and that it is properly formatted.

How To Cite Gcu Christian Worldview? Let’s Get Biblically Accurate!

If you’re writing a research paper or an academic project for Grand Canyon University (GCU), citing the GCU Christian worldview framework is of utmost importance. Honoring the university’s evangelical roots and mission, it’s essential to understand how to accurately reference this crucial component. Without proper citations, your text may deviate from the original theological standpoints that define GCU.

“The question is not whether we will be religious but which religion will we be.” – Wilfred Cantwell Smith

As scholars and learners pursuing excellence in their fields, representing GCU means appreciating its Christian heritage while critically examining all perspectives with respect and accuracy. To cite GCU Christian worldview correctly might seem intimidating at first if you’re unfamiliar with citation processes, yet mastering it guarantees credibility, intellectualism, and commitment to upholding academic standards.

The easiest way to ensure your writing reflects correct citations is to use reputable citation generators like Zotero or Easybib. However, knowledge of manual citation formatting can provide added flexibility when dealing with more challenging sources outside regular presets available online.

“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” – John F. Kennedy

You can locate specific guidelines on referencing the GCU Christian worldview document in various places such as library databases or official website pages linked within your course content management system (CMS). These consist of common formats like APA, MLA, or Chicago style adapted explicitly for citing sacred texts, religious documents and denominational positions statements applicable to Christianity.

Cultivating a habit of consistently exploring new tools and resources brings forth unforgettable opportunities for personal growth and intellectual expansion. Understanding How to Cite Gcu Christian Worldview facilitates skill development that carries far into professional settings beyond graduation day as well.

Why Citing GCU Christian Worldview Matters?

The Grand Canyon University (GCU) is a private, non-profit, interdenominational university located in Arizona, which has a strong Christian worldview. When writing academic papers or essays as students of GCU, it is essential to understand the significance of citing GCU’s Christian worldview and integrating it into our works.

GCU’s Christian worldview emphasizes key biblical themes such as love, forgiveness, and justice that are important for shaping character and values beyond the classroom. Therefore, when we write about complex societal issues like social injustice and human rights violations while ensuring objectivity in our writing- It can be challenging to integrate faith perspectives since they might not always fit well with secular approaches to these problematic topics.

“Biblical integration inspires critical thinking skills and personal development by offering an alternative viewpoint on core principles.” – Dr. Tim Griffin

Citing GCU’s Christian worldview provides opportunities to explore society’s problems within their broader context through the lens of traditional religious beliefs—it allows us to find God-given significance or purpose behind certain concepts discussed in academia without excluding any possibilities based on preconceived biases or limited worldviews.

It also gives us direction on laying out our arguments related to ethical dilemmas where a significant number of differing viewpoints exist by providing clear guidance rooted firmly in scripture-based fundamental ideas such as respect for human dignity.

“The importance of biblically integrated learning in the classroom cannot be overstated because so much contemporary knowledge seems devoid of foundational truths.” – Dr. Jason Hiles

Addictive behaviors may seem alluring at first glance; however if continuously being used become destructive leading one down dangerous paths affecting mental health along with other aspects negatively. By using GCE bibliography consistently will help throw light upon areas often missed in traditional learning, it helps keep readers well informed and protects scholarly integrity.

In conclusion, by citing GCU’s Christian worldview, we have the opportunity to reflect upon our beliefs while engaging in critical thinking activities. Our scholarship will ultimately benefit more when faith perspectives are taken into account because they can offer powerful insights that may otherwise be overlooked or dismissed altogether due to apathy towards ethical questions or personal beliefs.

• A Brief on Biblical Scholarship

Biblical scholarship is the systematic study and interpretation of the Bible. It involves scholarly analysis, historical research, and linguistic examination to understand biblical texts in depth. Scholars who engage in this field use various tools such as commentaries, dictionaries, concordances, and other reference works to aid their research.

As a student at GCU exploring the Christian worldview, it is essential to know how to properly cite sources from your research. The most common citation method used within theological studies is Turabian format. According to Kate L. Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations:

“The principle of citing sources is fundamental to academic writing because it allows readers to locate the sources you used.”

– Kate L. Turabian

Turabian citation style requires that every quote or paraphrase be cited with notes indicating specific details about where information was obtained.

There are two types of citations: footnotes (which appear at the bottom of each page) and endnotes (which appear at the end of an entire document). When using either footnote or endnote citation forms, students must include all necessary bibliographic information even if the source has already been referenced earlier in their paper.

In summary, understanding proper citations methodologies plays a crucial role in ensuring that you produce sound work while studying biblical scholarship at GCU. By following Turabian format when constructing papers or dissertations that show evidence-based thinking through thorough research practices illuminated by correct referencing means will help strengthen your arguments with compelling references back up your insights into God’s word and teachings which carry great weight among fellow Christians.

In the world of academia, practicing academic integrity is paramount. This holds true even more so for students studying Christian worldview at Grand Canyon University (GCU). Maintaining integrity not only reflects positively on oneself but also on GCU and ultimately Christianity as a whole.

A core component of maintaining academic integrity is citing sources accurately. “By acknowledging our debt to authors whose works have contributed significantly to our understandings of the world around us and using proper citation techniques we honor these individuals and thus exemplify ethical conduct.”

– Dr. Jace Weaver, Director of Institute for Native American Studies – UGA

Beyond citations, other elements of academic integrity include honesty in one’s work and avoiding plagiarism. Developing original ideas through thoughtful analysis remains crucial when pursuing higher learning goals as it provides students with opportunities to grapple with complex challenges independently free from the negative impact associated with cheating.

GCU offers resources like Turnitin. com and essay reviews by expert faculty mentors to help its students improve their writing skills, sharpen arguments and eliminate potential instances of unintentional plagiarism. It truly enables learners to deepen their scholarly conversation inside and outside the field of Christian studies by encouraging authenticity in all areas.”

“Authenticity = imperative part of scholarship”

– Dr. Michael Daniels / Professor English & Humanities Sinclair Community College Ohio USA

Understanding the GCU Christian Worldview

The Grand Canyon University (GCU) Christian worldview is based on a foundation of love, compassion and servant leadership. The belief system holds that all humans are created in God’s image, with inherent dignity and worth.

This understanding shapes how one views others, society at large and their individual purpose. When citing the GCU Christian worldview, it is essential to acknowledge this foundational truth: all life has meaning and value because it comes from God.

To fully cite the GCU Christian worldview, one must also recognize the importance placed upon incorporating faith into daily life; living out Christ’s example through humble service to others helps individuals appreciate their own spiritual journey while positively contributing to society at large.

An important part of this approach involves being mindful of both biblical values such as honesty, integrity and respect towards others as well as guidelines provided by secular authorities. Following these standards strengthens personal relationships while helping administer justice within larger communities.

“We are called to transform lives by uplifting intellectual curiosity, promoting moral courage and expanding personal character taking into account both our fellow human beings’ perspectives along with ethical principles grounded in scripture” – Michael Berger Vice President for Academic Compliance & Research Excellence”

In addition to highlighting our shared humanity rooted in reverence for creation itself, true discipleship requires an active engagement with social issues impacting marginalized or vulnerable groups. • The Bible as the Ultimate Source of Truth

In my experience as a student at Grand Canyon University, I have come to learn and understand that Christianity is not just a religion but it’s also a worldview. It impacts how we view everything in life from our values, beliefs, priorities, behaviors, and even decision-making processes. Thus, having an accurate understanding of the Christian worldview is critical for any GCU student.

The Christian worldview centers around Jesus Christ as the ultimate source of truth and reality. This belief stems from the idea that God created all things and therefore knows what is best for humans. As Christians, we believe that the Bible is the true word of God and represents His perfect will for mankind.

“All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, ” (2 Timothy 3:16)

This quote emphasizes the importance of using Scripture as the foundation for building one’s worldview. By studying and meditating on God’s Word with discernment, Christians can develop sound principles to guide their thoughts, actions, decisions, goals etc.

Taking into account the central role that biblical teachings play in developing a Christian worldview; citing these sources accurately becomes important both academically and personally. According to GCU’s guidelines on citation styles such as APA or MLA formats used by students depending on their fields of study while quoting religious texts always use parentheses followed immediately after quotes rather than footnotes:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”

(Proverbs 3:5).

  • When you are referencing citations never include them within quotation marks.
  • Different versions exist when quoting scriptures like KJV or NIV, make sure to mention the version used as well.
  • The use of footnotes is allowed when explaining figures or other nonreligious sources but not for biblical references

By using these guidelines it becomes easier for a student to cite bible materials effectively and accurately while still being true to their Christian faith and worldview at GCU. By integrating Scripture into our academic work, we can develop skills that will serve us throughout our lives allowing us to harness God’s wisdom where needed.

• The Three Pillars of GCU Christian Worldview: Creation, Fall, and Redemption

To properly cite the GCU Christian worldview, one must understand its three foundational pillars. Firstly, there is “Creation, ” which teaches that God created everything in the universe for a purpose. Secondly, there is “Fall, ” which acknowledges humanity’s sinful nature and separation from God. Lastly, there is “Redemption, ” which emphasizes salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

The concept of Creation reminds us that we are all made in God’s image and have inherent value and worth. This belief can inspire us to treat ourselves with respect and compassion while also extending grace and kindness to others.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1

Fall reflects on mankind’s broken relationship with God due to sin entering into the world. It highlights our desperate need for redemption through a savior who offers forgiveness and reconciliation as well as hope for eternal life.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” – Romans 3:23

Lastly, Redemption provides hope by acknowledging Christ’s sacrifice on the cross allowing us an opportunity to turn away from our sins toward righteousness and ultimately leading us towards a fulfilling life both now and in eternity.

“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” – Matthew 26:28

In summary, proper citation of GCU Christian worldview should include an understanding of how each individual component works together harmoniously under these three central themes- creation, fall, redemption.

Examples of Citing GCU Christian Worldview

The Grand Canyon University (GCU) Christian worldview is a crucial aspect for students. It teaches them to think critically and approach situations from a moral point of view. When it comes to citing this important concept, there are various options to choose from depending on the source material.

If you are using materials such as textbooks or peer-reviewed journal articles that use GCU’s Christian faith as a foundation for research, then in-text citations will suffice. For instance, if you used ‘The Holy Bible’ textbook, your citation would appear like – (Grand Canyon University, 2018), which refers to the author’s name and publication year.

In cases where you need to reference the school’s statement of beliefs in its entirety, consider including it in an appendix section of your paper instead of citing it within your text directly. You’ll be expected to follow standard APA format when citing documents found online, following this order: Author(s); Publication date; Document Title; URL.

“As future leaders with knowledge acquired at all levels through strict adherence to these core values – we hope our graduates can bring peace amid our diverse discussions regardless of religious affiliations.” ( Brian Mueller )

You do not have to include sources that only mention the university’s affiliation once or twice without explaining how it relates specifically to your topic. This practice is known as over-citation because lower-level tertiary assignments typically require few citations demonstrating familiarity with course content while major papers may necessitate more referencing due diligence.

To avoid plagiarism issues altogether turnitin. com has authentication software capable of identifying submissions featuring copied single words/phrases up paragraphs between two publications creating similarities by matching web sites along with books/magazines extracts:

“Turnitin checks academic integrity against billions of published academic texts, as well as student papers submitted on the same site. It allows for proper accreditation where due and takes a stand against plagiarism.” ( Turnitin )

• Citing Genesis 1:1-3 in APA Style

The Grand Canyon University (GCU) Christian worldview emphasizes the importance of citing sources accurately and appropriately. When it comes to referencing biblical texts, including Genesis 1:1-3, GCU students are expected to use APA style. This means following specific guidelines for formatting and citation.

To properly cite Genesis 1:1-3 in APA style, start by writing out the book name using standard abbreviations (Gen. for Genesis). Then write the chapter and verse numbers separated by a colon. Finally, include the version of the Bible used:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ^2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. ^3 And God said, ‘Let there be light, ‘ and there was light.” -Genesis 1:1-3 (New International Version)

This quotation from Genesis provides readers with valuable insight into one of Christianity’s most fundamental beliefs – that God is responsible for creating all things. But how does APA style handle this type of citation?

One key aspect of APA style is including an in-text citation whenever information or ideas from an outside source are included in a paper or project. For example, if I were discussing creationism versus evolution in my GCU theology course and wanted to reference these verses from Genesis as evidence supporting creationism, I might write something like:

In regards to creationism, (Genesis 1:1-3, New International Version).

Note that when you’re using APA style to cite scripture passages within your text proper punctuation needs to be observed. Also don’t forget that works cited pages should include all relevant bibliographic information, including the version of the Bible you are using.

By following these simple guidelines for citing biblical texts in APA style, GCU students can ensure that their writing is both precise and accurate. This not only enhances their credibility as scholars but also reflects positively on the university’s commitment to Christian values and academic excellence.

• Misquoting or Taking Bible Verses Out of Context

Citing the GCU Christian worldview requires accurate referencing of all sources used. The Bible is one foundational source for Christians, but misquoting or taking verses out of context can lead to misunderstandings and even false teachings.

Misusing the words in a verse is unethical as it does not stay true to the meaning behind them. When citing Biblical passages, use appropriate citations with correct book names, chapter numbers, and verses to allow readers to verify your claims. Inaccurately quoting passages causes doubt and potentially misleading information.

“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” – Deuteronomy 4:2

In addition, we should consider the historical context surrounding each passage’s original audience when interpreting scripture. Some texts were intended for specific groups at certain times rather than for general application throughout time.

In conclusion, quoting biblical text must be done ethically by adhering to relevant rules such as avoiding book censorship, using valid citations including context analysis. Furthermore, studying background history contextualizes much better regarding Scripture interpretation:
