April 8, 2020, jacksonville, florida, soars virtual conference, about the event.

The Showcase of Osprey Advancements in Research and Scholarship (SOARS) is an annual interdisciplinary conference at the University of North Florida (UNF) in which undergraduate and graduate students showcase their research or creative projects. Research projects are usually presented in poster format, but we also work with students who present in multimedia formats. SOARS is a welcoming environment in which students can refine their presentation skills through interaction with peers and faculty as they explain their projects, which will be in various stages of development.

Each year, we encourage people from across the University and throughout the broader Jacksonville community to attend SOARS. As a virtual conference, SOARS 2020 can cast an even wider net, potentially reaching a global audience – a silver lining to the dark cloud of COVID-19.

A Few Words

From the event organizer.

SOARS, a highlight of UNF Research Week, is organized and sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) with graduate projects sponsored by the Graduate School . SOARS is always a group effort, when people from Undergraduate Studies, the Thomas G. Carpenter Library, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs join us to provide moral and physical support.

This year, I gratefully acknowledge the dream team members who worked nimbly and creatively together with me to avoid cancelling SOARS and make it happen as a virtual conference: Molly O’Brien, the talented SOARS Project Manager, a recent UNF graduate departing imminently for a graduate program in Biology; Kaitlyn Minnicks, OUR’s devoted Student Projects Assistant; Andy Rush, Course Media Developer with the UNF Center for Instruction and Research Technology (CIRT) Creative Team, who constructed this fabulous website; and Michael Boyles, CIRT Graphic Designer, who always comes through when others need help.

Enjoy the Showcase of Osprey Advancements in Research and Scholarship!
