A well-maintained pitch or cricket field is where the game is played on. The game is famous in countries like England and India. Various formats and variations in the game regarding rules and duration are allowed.

Two things have made their place in the heart of Indians forever; Shahrukh Khan (The King Khan of Bollywood) and the sport of cricket. In our country, cricket is a religion and players like Sachin Tendulkar are considered as god. This game is enjoyed by small children as well as office going adults. It never fails to amuse us. You can find people playing cricket in world-class stadiums as well as on every corner of a not so well-lit street. You can never know which side the match is going to go as nothing is sure till the last ball is bowled.

I remember being the witness to one such nail-biting finish. I’m sure that all cricket enthusiasts would still remember the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) Finale; how all of us were glued to our television screens and were just waiting for the clock to show 7:30 pm! But I was one of the very few lucky ones who got a chance to visit the stadium in Hyderabad and watch the roller coaster of a finale in front of my own eyes.

My family and I live in Delhi, but since my father is such a cricket lover, we had made plans in advance to watch the finale. It was going to be held in Chennai initially, but because of some reasons, the venue was shifted to the city of Hyderabad. We purchased the match tickets as soon as they went online. All of the thousands of tickets that were available were sold within a record -breaking time of 2 minutes.

That is a mere 120 seconds, just think about it! But then, this is something that one can expect when the two teams playing head-on against each other were Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The match was indeed a clash of the Titans. We landed at the Hyderabad airport and checked into our hotel. After taking a short 2- hour nap, we took a cab and set out for the stadium. There was so much traffic. It felt as if every person in the city was going to the stadium.

Our tickets were double-checked at the entry gate, and we then reached our seats. The stadium felt so lively and was full of people cheering and supporting their favourite team. I doubt if even one seat would have been empty! We were waiting for the toss to start while my father went to bring some snacks and cold drinks for my sister and me. Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, won the toss and elected to bat first. We all were shouting at the top of our voices and just couldn’t wait for even one more second for the match to begin.

The match started and seemed to favour the yellow side. Mumbai Indians lost some of their crucial wickets early in the game including that of their captain for only 15 runs. Bowlers Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir seemed to give the blue batsmen a tough time. The supporters of Mumbai Indians had suddenly turned very quiet. But then came Kieron Pollard and struck a new hope for his side. He played some brilliant shots that went literally through the roof! The blue side posted a score total of 149 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. It was now time for the lions of Chennai to work magic with their bat.

The batsmen of Chennai Super Kings started quite well and kept the run rate exceptionally high. But as soon as Faf du Plessis lost his wicket, things started going south for the team. No other batsmen except for Shane Watson was able to perform exceedingly well. Even our favourite helicopter shot hitter, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was run out for only two runs. At the last ball, the Chennai side needed only one run to draw the game and two runs to claim the trophy.

If not anything else, the audience was expecting at least a super over. But one should not merely expect something beforehand when a talented bowler like Lasith Malinga stands with the ball in his hand on the other side. Malinga bowled a superb delivery under so much pressure. He bowled an LBW (Leg Before Wicket) and brought the Mumbai Indians to victory.

Celebrations | As our team won, a huge cheer came from the crowd. People were going crazy. Later, after the match celebrations were held, everybody was happy and appreciating the efforts of the team, and the match stayed in the conversation for the rest of the week.

History Of Cricket

Cricket originated in England as a sport for royals in the 16th century; later, during the colonial period, it was adapted by the rajas and nawabs of India as they came into contact with the British. Eventually, the royals of India started organising matches for their own entertainment in which common people were allowed to participate, which started the enthusiasm for this sport in the country.

How It Is Played

In cricket, two teams of 11 players face off against each other, one batting and one bowling and fielding. The batting and bowling teams are chosen through a coin toss. The field is circular to oval, with the main batting and bowling taking place in the middle of the field, involving two batsmen from one team and a bowler and wicket-keeper from the opposing team, while the remaining nine players hold the ground to prevent the batsmen from scoring. There are two umpires on the ground who judge the decisions.

My Experience Of A Cricket Match

Recently, an inter-school tournament was held, and we got the chance to see our team play. The stadium was packed with both our team's and the opposing team's supporters. Everybody was cheering for their teams.

The Game | The game began with a coin toss to determine which team would bat first. Our team won the toss and chose to bat first, and the opponent team bowled first. Both teams were on the ground as the game began, and on the very first ball, our team captain, who was the opening player, hit a six, and the ball flew out of the boundary. This continued throughout the game; whenever a batsman hit a six or four, the entire stadium and cricket ground erupted in raucous cheers from the crowd.

The Excitement | The match was exciting because it had ups and downs; players got clean hits; there were catches; sneak runs; boundaries; everything enthralled the audience. Even the bowling part of our team was much more exciting than the batting part. Our team scored 150 runs and was successful in stopping the opposing team at 120 runs, so we won. The players were appreciated a lot, and everybody talked about the game for more than a week. The team members later got awarded by our principal and the chief guest.

There is a lot of potential in Cricket which allows players to earn well. Cricket does not have one single format but various ones. Similarly, each format has a different set of rules and duration.

Formats of Cricket

As Cricket has various formats, it has a different fan base for each of them. Some people like watching test matches because of their intensity and authenticity. While some enjoy Twenty-20, that require minimum engagement and are highly entertaining. Test Match is a format of cricket that is quite traditional.

It lasts up to five days and two countries play against each other in this match. Next up, we have the National League Systems, also called counties in England. Their duration is for three to four days.

Limited Overs Cricket is another type where the number of episodes decides the format and length of the game. Both the teams get to play a single inning and thus results are determined.

I am the Captain of my school cricket team. Our school arranged a learned coach a few months ago to groom our team in the art of Playing. Accordingly I can boast with humility that our team is quite prepared to match any other cricket team in this area of our State. I had invited the team of the government school to play a friendly match with our school team. Match was played in our school playground. Our team won the toss. There was suddenly a note of dismay when he was caught out by Keshev of the rival team. Amit , however, continued. He played slowly and continuously. He scored 29 runs before he was bowled out. Before lunch our team had scored 202 runs in all in 40 overs. After lunch, the rival team started batting. Our team realized that the rival team was not that weak as we had thought them to be. Soon, they scored 53 runs. My mates began to show the signs of getting unnerved. But I bucked them up. I also brushed up fielding by changing the players. Suddenly, our crack bowler, Sandeep, showed his mettle when he felled down four wickets in quick succession. The rival team crashed like a house of cards and finished at 172 in 37 overs. Cricket is a gentleman’s game. It is very popular and enjoyed all over the world. It is my favorite game. I like it very much. I play it and see it being played either on the ground or on T.V sets.

This noble game is full of excitement, thrill, discipline, team-spirit, co-operation, and hard work. Last Friday, we had a very interesting cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Rahul Dravid played four down and played steadily but a very clever ball deceived him and he was bowled out for 30 runs. The tail-enders played well and India reached a respectable total of 250 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.

Then there was lunch. The Pakistan team started well and played positive cricket There was an opening partnership of 80 valuable runs between Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar. These 80 runs were made in just 15 overs.

Anwar was out at a respectable score of 50 runs Then came Imam-ul-Haq. He was playing good strokes and hit three consecutive boundaries in an over of Sunil Joshi before he was given LBW out.

It made him disappointed. Thereafter their middle-order batsmen collapsed like ninepins at regular intervals. They were at one stage only 140 runs for 8 wickets. So tight and well balanced was our bowling Kumble took two wickets.

There was great cheer and clapping from the crowd. But the lower-order batsmen of the Pakistan team player steadily, and scored runs fast in twos and ones. The boundary was few and far between.

They took the score to 220 in 46 overs and 5 balls and had lost 7 wickets. There was a lot of excitement and fortunes fluctuated at regular intervals.

But then our medium fasters Srinath and Agarkar did exceedingly well and the rivals were all out for 240 runs in 48-2 overs Indians were overjoyed. Anil Kumble was declared “Man of the Match “for his brilliant spin bowling ard for scoring 20 valuable runs

Last winter I happened to see a cricket match in Delhi. The match was played between Indian cricket team and the West-Indies cricket team. The match was played at Feroz Shah Kotla grounds.

Cricket is played between two teams of 11 members each, it is on a flat, smooth and clean ground. Cricket requires two sets of stumps, wickets and a ball. The distance between two sets of wickets is 22 yards. The bowlers take their turns after every six balls. In this fielding is also necessary for victory. Before the game starts, there is the toss. It is the whim of the toss-winning captain to first go for batting or fielding. The fielding party puts three fieldsmen on the one side, six on the off side, while one is posted for guarding the wicket and one for the bowling. The game is generally played for six hours a day. The umpire is the final judge. He is the man who declares the players ?out?; whether they are run out, bowled out, caught out, stumped out or leg-before-wicket out.

The match which I witnessed was really very interesting. There was a huge gathering at the Feroz Shah Kotla grounds. India?s leading cricketers were playing in the match. I saw the fine game of Tendulkar. He hit many boundaries, while Azhar was playing very carefully. But soon Tendulkar was out. Then he was replaced by Sidhu. He made 50 runs in 76 minutes while Ganguly made 66 runs in 70 minutes. Soon there was a break for lunch. The Indian team made 219 runs for there wickets before lunch.

Then the West Indies players started bowling after lunch. Marshall bowled very fast and he stumped for Sidhu. Soon he was replaced by Manjrekar. He hit three sixes. There was a tremendous cheer from the spectators. There was great excitement among the spectators as well as players. Everyone was in high spirits. Manjrekar played up to the end and he scored over a century. Then the umpire gave a long whistle and the match ended for the day.

The spectators dispersed. Some of the cricket fans were patting Manjrekar for his brilliant performance. Soon the crowd fizzled out and we came back home. It was a thrilling match for me.

Last month I got a chance to see a one-day cricket match played between our National team and the Indian team. Our college announced a holiday to witness this match. We had bought the tickets two days before they reached the stadium at 9 O’clock. We were surprised to see all the enclosures fully packed. Men, women, children and old persons from every walk of life had come to see this match. Fortunately, we got seats near the commentary box.

The match started at 10 O’clock. Waqar Younis, the Captain of the Pakistan team won the toss. He invited the Indians to play first. Both the openers of the Indian Team were experienced batsmen. But they could not play confidently before the Pakistani bowlers. The wicket was giving great help to the fast bowlers like Waseem Akram and Waqar Younis. In the first five overs, they took two wickets against only ten runs. It appeared that the whole Indian team would not be able to score even one hundred runs. But the careful batting by Tendulkar and Laxman gave good support to their team. But Waqar made a wise change by introducing Mushtaq from the college end. His ball was taking a sharp turn and he took the important wicket of Laxman in his first over. The fielding of our team was perfect and they were enjoying the home ground. People clapped and danced when Shoaib took a very difficult catch. Our Wicket Keeper Rashid showed a wonderful performance by stumping out three Indian players. Two of them were run-out and the last three batsmen were caught behind the wickets. At last, the whole team was out after making only one hundred and fifty runs.

Champions never sleep, the eternal spirit keeps them alert and awake.”

There was a break of one hour between the two innings. We also had our lunch. The stadium was picturesque. Especially, the ladies enclosure looked very attractive. People were holding the national flags and banners in their hands and waving them.

Pakistanis started their innings and Shahid came to pen with Saeed. The target was quite easy and our batsmen played aggressive shots from the very beginning. The captain of the Indian team tried many bowlers one after the other, but he could not succeed to break the partnership. Both the openers scored eighty runs. Then came the great Inzi and Yousaf who loved to hit the ball with full force. Whenever they scored a boundary, people enjoyed and jumped at their seats. In this way, Pakistan defeated India by seven wickets. Shahid was declared the man of the match. It was a match that we can remember forever.

The CRICKET MATCH ESSAY ( NARRATIVE)

A cricket match that i watched.

Games and sports are a good source of amusement. People have always sought rescue in games and sports to escape dullness and monotony. They provide us a time to forget our worries and get lost in great pleasure.

I am a fan of cricket and hardly miss watching an important match local, national or international.

Last Saturday a one-day cricket match of 50 overs was played between two reputed teams of Kashmir YCC and BCC in Srinagar at Bakshi Stadium. A large number of spectators had come to witness the match.

The match started at 10:00 am. The captain of YCC cricket team won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair started confidently but cautiously. They had scored 32 runs when there was a bowling change. The slow bowling with a lot of swing on a green-top wicket proved disastrous for YCC. In his very first over the slow bowler dismissed both the openers. The middle-order could not resist well his in and outswingers. He claimed two more wickets in his first spell. However, the captain played an anchor role and continued to score fearlessly. Though his partners left him at intervals, he managed to bat to the end. He was 85 not out when the last wicket fell at 198, at the end of 48th over.

BCC started at a rather slow pace. However, runs started coming once the opening pair settled well. They scored 50 runs in the first fifteen overs. In the next five overs, they hit 30 runs. Soon after the spinners were brought in, they managed to move the ball and checked the flow of runs. It made the batsmen impatient and they started hitting the ball desperately. They started losing wickets and at one occasion slumped to 125 for seven. They needed 74 runs in the last 14 fourteen overs with only three wickets in hand. The vice-captain showed courage, skill, and aggression. He hit twenty runs in 38th over with 2 sixes and 2 fours. There was a bowling change which again proved disastrous and the hitter was clean bowled. With two wickets in hand BCC still needed 36 runs in 36 balls. In the next two overs, they scored 13 runs. At this stage, the 9th wicket fell.

In the last over they had to score eight runs to win. They scored five runs off the first five balls. Now the last ball had to be bowled –one wicket for YCC and three runs by BCC was the victory target. There was extreme sensation all around. The bowler of YCC team came racing and bowled a ball of 150km speed. It took a lucky edge and crossed the fence giving a brilliant victory to BCC.

Both the teams were given warm applause for their struggle and brilliant performance. I really enjoyed the match very much.

The game of cricket is being played for a very long time. Its fame increased all over the world. It’s played in many countries. People of any age love to watch it. Whenever any international cricket match is held, lakhs of people gather from different places to watch it in the stadium.

It’s such a popular game that children and youths play it with great enthusiasm on the streets or roads of their locality.

It’s a game played at both the national and international levels, the rules of which are governed by the respective councils. This game was first played in England. After that, the game reached the national level and now it’s played at the international level with very strong competition.

Lots of teams participate in the game to win the trophy but in the end, only two teams reach the final match. The team that scores more runs wins the match.

2. How to play it?

To play this game, a coin is tossed by the umpire in the presence of the captions of two teams that have to compete. The team that wins the toss bats first. The toss-winning team can also choose to field first if it wants.

When the match starts, both teams are on the playground. One team bats and the other bowls & fields. The team batting first aims to score as many runs as possible in the stipulated number of overs and the team that bowls aims to get the batsman out.

Every team gets chances to bat and bowl in its turns which is also called innings.

In the end, the team which scores more runs is considered the winner and the player who performs well during the match is considered ‘Man of the Match’. The winning team is awarded a trophy and sometimes prize money as well.

Cricket is a game that requires a lot of energy from every player on the ground. Earlier, there were only a few forms of this game, but today it’s played in many forms and each form is played and watched with the same enthusiasm and excitement.

The charm of this game has increased to such an extent that it can be seen in almost every locality and local ground. Today, there will be millions of lovers of this game.

Cricket is one of the most popular games all over the world. It’s played in almost all the countries like India, Pakistan, Australia, Newzealand, England, etc.

Only a bat and a ball are needed to play this game. Its main objective is to score as many runs as possible. In this game, every team has eleven players. Apart from this, there are many other people who have their own responsibilities.

The game is played on a circular field with pitches twenty-two yards long and ten feet wide. The pitch is the place where the actual game is played.

Somerset 152-4, actually make that five, a perplexed push at Dan Lawrence, a perfectly swallowed catch low by Craig Overton at slip. The Somerset lead still in single figures.

Ben Raine six away from his century in Durham’s 490-7, though they still need another 58 to avoid the follow on.

And in Division Two: a century for Chris Cooke and five wickets for Alex Thomson as Glamorgan stretch their lead over Derbyshire towards 400; Glos have already lost Chris Dent in their quest for another 477; Leicestershire 36-0 chasing a suffocating deficit at Grace Road and – wow Middlesex – both Holden and du Plooy in the 160s as they approach 500 with just two down at Wantage Road.

Sussex can be very pleased with their winter shopping, tempting Simpson over from Lord’s. With his double hundred in the bag, the captain duly declares on 649-9: the lead over Somerset 356.

Plonk my bottom down just in time to see Tom Banton limply waft at Cameron Steel and be caught at backward point. Somerset four down, trail by 22. A second wicket for Steel and this could be over very rapidly.

Harry Brook pulverises the unfortunate van Buuren into the car park. Meanwhile at The Oval, Lawrence’s idiosyncratic offies got rid of Renshaw, but Lammonby has continued to gather riches, reaching 50 in 78 balls.

Hundreds for John Simpson and Danny Lamb making Sussex the sixth side to pass 500 in this round, t he lead over Leicestershire 173 and a hundred for Max Holden in Middlesex’s 283-2 (Fernandes caught for 103) at the Wantage Road run factory.

Worcestershire have lost a couple of wickets this morning but in sight of 300, Nathan Smith, fresh from three wickets in the first innings, 49 not out.

A first of the season for Jenning s, and another captain’s hundred in a round where skipperes have flourished (see also DBD, Alex Davies, Shan Masood).

Surrey have bustled past 400, helped by a huge six by Jamie Overton; while Durham have lost Ollie Robinson for 60, Lees still there on 120. Durham 254-6.

And another morning wicket at The Oval, moments after a near run-out mix-up Steel caught cutting, a fourth wicket for Aldridge.

T he five minute bell at The Oval, and a last bit of divot pressing. Adam Collins tells me that Shoaib Bashir bowled nicely yesterday, both sides of the wicket and with control and verve.

Taha's Saturday round-up

Not content with the 490 they struck on Friday, Warwickshire opted to continue their dismantling of Durham ’s attack at Edgbaston, declaring two runs short of 700. The Bears captain Alex Davies was unable to convert his double hundred into a triple, but his predecessor Will Rhodes went to an unbeaten 178 as every member of Warwickshire’s top three celebrated a three-figure score in the county’s second-highest first-class total. There was less fortune for their No 4, Ed Barnard, bowled for one by a fine, ripping delivery from Callum Parkinson. Last year’s Division Two champions finished the day trailing by 520, but with the consolation of an Alex Lees century incoming in the morning.

Essex, who also put up 400 on day one, settled for 530 before their declaration against Kent, Matt Critchley top-scoring with 151 not out at Chelmsford. But the hosts missed their headline seamer Sam Cook, out due to a thigh niggle, as Daniel Bell-Drummond celebrated his second hundred of the week and Ben Compton his first of the season. Jaydn Denly took his maiden first-class wicket for the visitors and could well bat alongside his uncle, Joe, on Sunday.

Plenty of England’s Test setup were in action at the Oval, but two names from the past stepped up. Dom Sibley and Rory Burns put on 167 for Surrey ’s first wicket against Somerset , with the former hitting his 20th first-class ton. Out of the current crop, Ben Foakes went to a half-century but Ollie Pope fell cheaply, while Shoaib Bashir spun the ball with control to dismiss Burns and go at two an over.

Emilio Gay went all the way to 261 for Northamptonshire against Middlesex before being run out attempting a desperate second at Wantage Road. Middlesex have endured a tough opening to the season in the field, having taken just nine wickets for the loss of 1,172 runs. A second-innings shootout is in development at Sophia Gardens, with Glamorgan 74 for four after acquiring a first-innings lead of 39 against Derbyshire . The visiting off-spinner Alex Thomson has 10 wickets in the match, a first in his professional career.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice’s five-fer for Sussex against Leicestershire at Grace Road was followed by a second consecutive hundred for the opener Tom Haines, while Cheteshwar Pujara showcased his famous patience in compiling 38 off 148 deliveries. Cameron Bancroft was similarly old-school at the top of the order for Gloucestershire against Yorkshire at Bristol, taking 160 balls to reach his half-century. He couldn’t, however, stop his side from conceding a first-innings deficit of 63. Keaton Jennings was another opener in the runs, remaining unbeaten on 85 for Lancashire against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

Calvin Harrison had a fine day across all three facets for Nottinghamshire against Worcestershire at Trent Bridge. To begin with, his 52 with the bat in a seventh-wicket 146-run stand with Lyndon James, who fell for 96. Then a wonderful low catch at third slip to dismiss Jake Libby. And then, for The Prestige, three wickets with his leg-spin to put his side on top.

Good morning! And welcome to the second Sunday of the season, the sun out, the lilac heady and the Kookaburra ball run ragged.

There have been five scores above 500 already this round, with power to add – though it looks as if the game at Sophia Gardens will follow a more typical early season bunfight – albeit with spin the surprising weapon rather than seam. Mason Crane pocketed four wickets on his Glamorgan debut and there has been a career-best ten for Derbyshire offspinner Alex Thomson, not, I imagine, what he was expecting when he got off the coach on Thursday.
