10 Reasons Why Nature Lovers Should Visit Beautiful Terengganu in Malaysia

holiday in terengganu essay

While we often fly at least three hours for a quick getaway to that much needed retail therapy or  digital detox , we often forget about the possible adventures that await right next door.

The Malaysia we know embodies many things; from the scrumptious cuisines that reside in Penang’s streets , to the back-breaking (but wholly satisfying) ascent to Mount Kinabalu,  and even to the enigmatic Kuching city.  It is almost as though there is a state that reflects every aspect of our personality. But have we truly explored it all?

Sitting on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Terengganu remains as one of the lesser-known states there. While seemingly small in size, Terengganu holds several surprises that has its travellers squealing in delight. Here are 10 reasons why you should visit beautiful Terengganu.

1) The Scenic Terengganu River & A Mosque Made Of Glass And Steel

Terengganu TTI Cruise

One of the best ways to see the sights along the scenic Terengganu river is to hop on the TTI River Cruise and embark on a 45-minute sightseeing tour. Relish in the gentle breeze and the warmth of the sun as the cruise sails down the estuary where you get to witness the contrast of the old and modern development, and other landmarks or attractions set in Kular Terengganu.

Terengganu Crystal Mosque

Amongst the several attractions along the river, one stands out. A magnificent structure made of glass and steel, the Masjid Krystal, also known as the Crystal Mosque, sits on a man-made island — Pulau Wan Man — at the edge of Terengganu River. At noon or sundown, you will be able to take in the splendour of the mosque as its reflection illuminates off the water.

Cost: RM 22.90 (approx. SGD 7.70) Address: Jetty Tok Ku Paloh, Pulau Wan Man, 21000 Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia Opening Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 10am to 7pm; Friday to Sunday, and Malaysia School and Public Holidays: 9am to 7pm (Break for Friday Prayer: 11.30am to 2.30pm) Closed every Tuesdays except Malaysia School Holidays and PH

2) The Enthralling ‘Almost-extinct’ Gamelan Show At Warisan Sari

Terengganu Gamelan Show

A traditional ensemble music performance of Indonesian origin, comprising mostly percussive instruments, the Gamelan show is sometimes joined with exquisite dance performers, enthralling the crowd with their fluid moves paired with gentle beats.

The Malay Gamelan, however, is different from its Indonesian counterpart and was almost left extinct.

Terengganu Gamelan Show Close-up

Here’s the rundown of what happened: Once an exclusive form of royal entertainment in Pahang and Terengganu in the early-1900s, the Malay Gamelan met the demise of its patrons as with the forthcoming World War II. As a result, the fine art was lost until someone discovered the abandoned instruments in the 1960s, which spurred an onslaught of events which reunited musicians, re-established dancers, and eventually its first-ever public performance.

3) Lang Tengah Island: The Quiet Respite Amid Summer Bay Lang Island Resort

holiday in terengganu essay

The eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia is home to several scenic islands, like the popular Redang Island, Perhentian Kecil or Perhentian Besar to list a few, and among which one stands out.

Just 22.5 kilometres off Merang Jetty, the lesser developed Lang Tengah Island prides itself to be the ideal getaway for travellers seeking some quiet respite.

Helming TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence (2017) , the charming  Summer Bay Lang Island Resort  is one of the four resorts that resides on the quiet, scenic island.

Terengganuu Lang Tengah Island Resort

With a KTV lounge, massage parlour, swimming pool, a cosy bar that serves affordable tipple and snacks, and a kickass team of affable staff to boot, Summer Bay Lang Island Resort is far from anything lacklustre.

*Pro-tip:  The island is off-bounds to visitors during the Monsoon season (from November to March), and the best time to visit would be from May to August when the water is the clearest and the weather ideal.

Getting there:

If you are keen for a stay at Summer Bay Lang Island Resort, simply make a booking reservation on their website . Each booking entitles a two-way boat transfer service at the Merang Jetty (note: not Marang Jetty).

Cost:  Starting from RM 500 (approx. SGD 160 for a 2D1N stay, inclusive of a 2-way boat transfer from Merang Jetty) Address: Merang Jetty, D Coconut Lagoon, 21010 Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia Opening Hours:   Ferry from Merang Jetty departs at 10.30 am *Pro-tip: Expect strong winds slamming into your face as your ferry proceeds to sail to the island, having a pair of shades will protect you from the sun’s rays and not wearing caps is advisable.

4) The Adorable Fishes And Mesmerising Corals You Get To Snorkel With Near Lang Tengah Island

Beautiful Terengganu

As you approach Lang Tengah Island, you would probably notice that the seawater near the island is pristine with turquoise (or teal) hue. It goes without saying that Lang Tengah Island is also home to some gorgeous snorkeling spots.

Terengganu Snorkeling Spot 3

A stay at Summer Bay Lang Island Resort comes with daily complimentary snorkelling trips (or diving trip), where you get to swim alongside with adorable fishes or view the gorgeous corals.

Prior to setting off, a meticulous safety brief will be conducted by the guide, who will elaborate on the dos and don’ts while you are amid the sea’s embrace. Throughout the snorkeling session, you will be placed under close supervision as well.

And if you are lucky enough, you will be able to swim alongside baby sharks or turtles too.

While it makes sense for one to apply sunblock to protect your skin from the sun’s tenacity, you are advised not to do so at Lang Tengah if you are intending to head into the waters. This helps protect the corals, planktons and other aquamarine life residing in it.

5) The Captivating Sunset By The Beach On Lang Tengah Island

The sandy white beach situated right outside Summer Bay Lang Island Resort on Lang Tengah Island is dotted with several beach benches, making it the perfect chilling spot to catch the spectacular sunset.

Alternatively, you could reminisce childhood days by the beach and build sandcastles, or bask in the gorgeous sunset hues and snap a picture or two for memory sake.

6) Island Hop On Lake Kenyir, Southeast Asia’s Largest Man-made Lake

Terengganu Lake Kenyir

Also known as Southeast Asia’s largest man-made lake, Lake Kenyir was constructed in 1985, boasting an abundance of freshwater fishes, exotic wildlife, and over 340 small islets with some containing captivating waterfalls, mysterious caves and resorts.

Tours are usually organised by the resorts near the area, but you can consider hopping onto one guided by one of the local fishermen on their boat at a more affordable (and negotiable) price. Keep in mind that, if you do not meet the minimal threshold, the tour will not depart or you may end up paying for more.

Address: Pengkalan Gawi Jetty, Tasik Kenyir, 21700 Kuala Berang, Terengganu, Malaysia

Taman Orkid

holiday in terengganu essay

Taman Orkid, or loosely translated as Orchid Garden, is home to a large variety of orchid species. A suspending bridge connects the entrance and the jetty point to where the glorious floras are located. Needless to say, it makes quite the Instagram-worthy spot as well.

holiday in terengganu essay

The serene islet collects various orchid species from around the world. Unfortunately, my short stint proved to be futile as most of the orchids have yet bloomed. But I dare imagine the sight of witnessing these intricate species blossoming while perched on tree trunks and fences to be a refreshing one.

Entrance Fee: RM 6 (approx. SGD 2)

Taman Herba

holiday in terengganu essay

Taman Herba, also known as Herb Garden, houses a spectrum of herbs including those that are edible, fit for aromatherapy, containing medicinal values, as well as those rich in antioxidants properties.

holiday in terengganu essay

Alternatively, you could take a leap of faith and sample on intriguing herbal teas, such as the mildly bitter Tongkat Ali Hitam for men or Kacip Fatimah for women.

Entrance Fee: RM 5 (approx. SGD 1.6) *Pro-tip: Before embarking on your island-hopping adventure, it is wise to stock up on some fluid, apply some sunblock, and bring along a simple first-aid kit as well as some form of insect repellent.

7) The Gorgeous Murals And Art Installations In Chinatown’s Inconspicuous Alleys

Terengganu Chinatown

You will need no direction finding Chinatown, or as the locals call it Teng Lang Po or Kampung Cina.  One major giveaway would be the huge entrance arch that is adorned with a pair of Chinese dragons at the top. Another would be the rows of red lanterns strung across parallel shophouses.

Terengganu Chinatown Murals

An eyeshot away from the mouth of Terengganu river and the trading port, the Chinatown today was where the earliest Chinese settlements congregate. But gone are the days of dilapidated shophouses, foul streets filled with dangerous alleys. The Chinatown today is far from that.

Collage Art Installation in Chinatown, Terengganu

Although minuscule in size, the street now exudes a vibe of youthful exuberance, quite evident from the riot of colours stemming from gorgeous murals, repainted shophouses, and cool art installations that reside in the inconspicuous alleys.

Terengganu Chinatown Art Installation Locks 2

One of which is the Lover’s Lane where lovers can write their names onto padlocks and having them fixed onto the walls as a remembrance.

Walking down these alleys, one cannot help but to look up (and it pays to do so). At the Payang Memory Lane, a cluster of colourful umbrellas hangs above, symbolising the grand notion of unity in diversity. While the traditional wau bulan kites, symbolic to Malaysia’s east coast, hover overhead at the Malay-themed Haji Awang Besar Lane.

Address: Jalan Bandar, Kuala Terengganu 20100, Malaysia *Pro-tip:  Avoid heading to Chinatown in the evening  as most of the shops would have already closed.

8) The Wide Assortment Of Keropok Lekor You Get To Haggle At The Pasar Payang Central Market

Pasar Payang Terengganu

Located just a stone’s throw away from Terengganu’s Chinatown, the Pasar Payang Central Market is a popular tourist spot offering a variety of handicrafts, such as batik or silk, brasswares, fresh produce, and more importantly, Keropok.

Terengganu Kerepok

You will be spoilt for choices with the extensive array of Keropok Lekor readily available (and at affordable prices too) at each vendor in the central market. These traditional Malay fish fritter snack has its origin right in Terengganu and is made from fish paste, sago flour and seasonings. You are required to deep-fry them before pairing it with spicy Terengganu sauce.

Cost:  Starting from RM 10 (approx. SGD 3.30) Address: Jalan Bandar, Terengganu, 20100 Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia Opening Hours: 6am-5pm *Pro-tip:  Catch the central market at its liveliest in the morning from 6am to 9am. Learning how to haggle in Malay will undoubtedly make bargaining more fruitful as well.

9) Try Nasi Dagang, A Rice Speciality Of Terengganu

Terengganu Nasi Dagang Flatlay

Nasi Dagang , or Trader’s Rice, is a common breakfast dish comprising white rice steamed with glutinous rice, with the subsequent addition of coconut milk (for that added aromatic lemak kick and flavour), fried shallots, ginger and other spices before being wrapped in banana leaf.

Terengganu Nasi Dagang Close Up

It is then paired with the specially prepared  gulai ikan tongkol (tuna fish curry) and served with pickled cucumbers as a side. Like the Nasi Lemak in Singapore, the popular rice dish can be found in most eateries in Terengganu and Kelantan. One of the famous ones includes Mak Ngah Nasi Dagang.

Cost: From RM 3 (approx. SGD 1)

10) The Historical And Gorgeous Terrapuri Heritage Village

holiday in terengganu essay

Drawing inspiration from the 17th century Terengganu Palace, the Terrapuri Heritage Village is a restoration and conservation project-cum-villa, boasting 29 restored antique Malay houses that span between 100 to 250 years old.

Terengganu Terrapuri Heritage Village Room

Each of these ancient houses has been meticulously refurbished to emulate the village into its former glory, even details pertaining to Malay Feng-shui were not forgotten as well. Besides the enriching Malay architecture, the luxurious villas come with indoor air-conditioning, rain showerhead, wooden bathtubs and more.

An outdoor pool sits at the back of the villa, where you can head in for a quick dip. Right at the entrance of the villa, a scenic beachfront facing the South China Sea awaits.

Cost:  Starting from RM 529 per night (approx. SGD 170 for a one night stay in the Superior Villa) Address: Kg.Mangkuk, 22120 Setiu, Terengganu, Malaysia

Getting from Singapore to Terengganu

Singaporeans are no stranger when it comes to traversing to Johor Bahru. Among the multiple ways to do so, I find the bus routes there to be convenient and more affordable.

1) From Kranji MRT station Hop on the “ 170x ” SBS bus or the “ CW1 ” Causeway Link Bus.

2) From Queenstreet Bus Terminal Hop on the “ 170 “,” 170A ” SBS buses or the “ CW2 ” Causeway Link Bus.

Air Asia now flies three flights a week from Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru to Sultan Mahmud Airport in Terengganu. The duration of each flight is roughly an hour. It is best to book early to get lower fares.

This post is brought to you by AirAsia and Malaysia Tourism Board .

Terengganu holds the charms and splendour from others state in Malaysia. Despite rapid development and modernisation , it is as if time has stood still as the state retains all the rustic and idyllic charms so different from other tourist destination.

Terengganu is home to a diverse and close-knit society, where people are friendly and charm that exuberantly warmth and grace, with strong morals and values. People of different races share the bonds of neighborhood, a strong liking for local food and speak the same local dialect.

Besides, Terengganu is endowed with unmatched natural beauty. Having the longest coastline (244km) of wonderful beaches, the lush tropical rainforests, a hidden paradise unmoved by time and stunning islands with its tranquil emerald waters turn magnificently golden hues at the touch of the sun’s first rays. Terengganu is also rich with its customs and tradition, upheld through generations and visible in its way of life, its arts and handicrafts, its tradition culinary and its heritage. Terengganu is in a league of its own as a vibrant tourist destination.

The State today is a melting pot of old and news, set against the backdrop of Terengganu’s traditional poise and beauty, where progressive change is meshed with values that have dear for generation by the people.

Terengganu is truly a tropical gateway. In the land where nature embraces heritage, it will truly revitalize your senses. Welcome to Terengganu and discover splendours of nature, the diversity of tradition and the fascination of heritage. There is absolutely no place like Terengganu.

There were conflicting versions of how Terengganu got her name. Some correlated it to the finding of a canine tooth of an unknown origin at a river estuary by a group of hunters from a neighbouring state.  So it was said that the place they went hunting where the “Taring Anu” was found. Some believed the name derived from a very bright rainbow (ganu) seen by a group of travellers and proclaimed the land to be “Terang Ganu” (Bright Rainbow). Furthermore the name Terengganu was mentioned as Teng-Ya-Nu by a Chinese scholar, Coo-Cu-Fei in his book Ling Wai Fai Ta in 1178AD. Another Chinese historian, Cao – Ju- Kua did not miss Teng – ya - nung when he authored Cu Fan Cih in 1226AD.

Teng-ya-nung was under the rule of Sri Vijaya Kingdom. Ptolemy corroborated that the East coast region of the Golden Chersonese (Peninsula Malaysia) had Kole and Primula. Both believed to be ports of call for costal traders. Kole was said to be in Kemaman while Primula was believed to be in Kuala Terengganu. The Inscribed Stone (Batu Bersurat) found by Sayed Hussein Ghulam Al-Bukhari in 1902 at Kuala Berang bore the world Terenkanu inscribed in jawi, and Arabic Romanized version. The stone tablet also bore a date in Hijrah calendar which was equivalent t 1303 A.D. The archeological finds a Bewah and Taat caves in Hulu Terengganu were carbon dated to be from the Hoabin hian era circa 14,000 – 10,000 years ago. Terengganu was inhabited well before the turn of the first millennium.

Terengganu is truly a lessed state. It is in the early 1970’s that tourists start arriving. Unspoilt beaches, the wonders of watching giant leatherback turtles, the crystal clear azure waters, the splendours of marine lives and the untouched tropical rainforests are totally and experience to cherish. Even the uniqueness of its traditional foods are distinctively sought after and remains a part of Terengganu’s identity. Such as the ‘keropok lekor’ and ‘nasi dagang’ which truly shows originality and so famous that it is regarded as the trademark of Terengganu.

With the present government gearing ahead to create an impressive state to visit, an immense opportunity waits investors. Terengganu is mobilizing it’s full force in developing modern infrastructures. All the required potentials, endless opportunities and fascination can only be found here in Terengganu.

The discovery of offshore oil in gas in 1974 has granted Terengganu a significant change to its economic, technology and social structure. At current production, the oil and gas reserves are estimated to last for another 13 years and 41 years respectively.

Terengganu has enjoyed considerable development over the past 30 years with its rapid industrialization and growing economic activity after the discovery of these reserves. Before this, farming and fishing were the main economic activities for the state.

Even so, 45% of its land is still covered by lush pristine forests and rivers also home for some very old Malaysia traditional culture whose practices and customs have been handed down the generations. The 225 km of coastline is not only making Terengganu the state with the longest coastline in Peninsular Malaysia but also contributing to the state GNP. As a holiday destination, Terengganu is a neverending journey of discovery with its rich and exotic culture, breathtaking wonders of nature and endless potential for adventure.

Culture and Religion

Due to its history background and geographical location, Terengganu receives cultural influences from the neighbour in the north: Kelantan and Thailand. Though it is conservative Muslim state, the general public is still enjoying the freedom of worship. However, beer or alcohol is not widely available in certain places especially Malay own shops. Always remember that while n Rome, do as the Romans do.

Working week

Most of the offices start the week on Sunday and the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday.

Top 10 Things To Do In Redang Island [2024]

Booked a trip to Redang Island? Or thinking about heading to Redang Island and wondering what to do in Redang Island, Malaysia?

Awesome! I have you covered.

In this article, I have all the best things to do in Redang Island so you can plan your trip or work out if Redang is the right holiday location for you.

Redang Island (otherwise known as Pulau Redang) is a small island located off the east coast state of Terengganu in Malaysia. It’s known for its beautiful scenery and fabulous underwater environment. It is stunningly beautiful with white sand beaches, lush jungle and a protected marine environment.

In fact, it is so beautiful that my first view of the beach at Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) literally took my breath away. The sand was so white and the water so many shades of blue.

Top 10 Things To Do In Redang Island [2019]

It’s also somewhat a resort island, and there are some great accommodation choices here. You won’t struggle to find somewhere to stay and eat. It has far superior resort options compared to Tioman or Perhentian Islands.

However, it is more a chill-and-relax place, and there are not tons of places to visit in Redang Island or must do Redang attractions. Instead, you can feel free to take it as active or inactive as you like with a great choice of water activities and trekking that you can do as you wish.

Below, I walk you through the top 10 things to do in Redang which includes all the best activities at Redang Island before helping you work out where to stay on Redang, how to get there, and how to get around.  I also include a Redang Island attractions map so you can get a feel for where everything is on the island.

I talk about the best time to visit (and when not to visit) and what it’s like visiting with kids.

Top 10 Things To Do In Redang Island, Malaysia [2024]

In no particular order, here are the best Redang Island activities.

Go Scuba Diving

Diving on Redang Island - Dive Boat

When it comes to finding out Redang Island what to do, there is a clear top choice. Scuba diving is one of the best activities at Pulau Redang. Thanks to Redang Island being located within a protected marine park, there is some great underwater action here. With over 20 dive sites – you’ll never be short on Pulau Redang activities!

Redang Island is part of the “coral triangle” between the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia which has the greatest marine diversity in the world – and you can see 80% of these species in the waters around this island.

If you’ve never dived before but would love to learn how, one of the activities in Pulau Redang, Malaysia I recommend is to do your diving certification.  Otherwise, you can go out for dives if you are already certified or do a “discovery dive” if you are a beginner.

You can book diving tours through most resorts.

Try Snorkelling

Snorkelling on Redang Island

If you are not a diver, don’t worry as the next top Redang what to do activity is snorkelling.  For the non divers, snorkelling is one of the top things to do in Pulau Redang, as you can still have amazing experiences without diving down deep.

As stated above, the waters around Redang have amazing biodiversity. You can see a lot. It’s easy to hop on a boat tour to some great snorkelling sites, or you can snorkel off the beach for some great views in some locations. Many resorts rent out snorkelling equipment.

For snorkelling activities in Redang Island which you can access without a boat, try the water in front of Redang Kalong Resort at Teluk Kalong for baby blacktip sharks. Another option is Teluk Dalam in front of Taaras resort where there are coral reefs to the sides of the bay.

Another spot where you can snorkel right off the beach is Tanjung Mak Cantik in Pantai Pasir Panjang. There is also Tanjung Tengah, but as it’s one of the busiest, unfortunately, it has suffered quite a lot of damage.

I do highly recommend you add snorkelling or diving at least once to your list of what to do in Pulau Redang, Malaysia.

Visit The Redang Marine Park Centre

around the Redang Marine Park Centre

The Marine Park Centre is the most popular place for snorkelling around Redang Island. Located in Pulau Pinang, you will need a boat to get here.

The area around the jetty is where you want to be. At 3 to 6 metres deep, there are corals and a huge variety of marine life. You can see giant grouper, moray eel, octopuses, turtles and lots of other fish.

Redang Marine Park Centre

Unfortunately, the corals are dying so I wouldn’t go specifically to see this. However, it is the best place in Pulau Redang to see fish, as it has the largest concentration of fish in a single location since many people feed the fish. So if you want to see marine life, this can be a great addition to your Redang Island things to do list.

Many tours stop here and, in peak season, it can be crowded. Also be sure you take your receipt for the Marine Park Conservation fee you paid before boarding a ferry otherwise you will be asked to pay again.

I’d snorkel elsewhere if you can.

Eat The Local Food

Restaurants on Redang Island

While many people book package tours to visit Redang Island which include meals, it is worth venturing outside your resort to try more of the local food. You can find some fabulous Malay food choices in particular.

If you are staying in or near to the Laguna Redang Island Resort, the food court here is a great place to start with good prices (relative to island prices).

Fish head curry is a popular local dish and eating one should definitely be one of the essential activities to do in Redang Island 🙂

Enjoy The Sunrise And Sunset At The Beach

holiday in terengganu essay

Redang Island is beautiful at any time of day, but it’s at its most spectacular at sunrise and sunset.

There is nothing better to do in this list of Redang Island attractions than sitting on the beach or on a headland and watching the sunset after a fun day. The best part is that this is easy to do – just head to your closest coastal point outside!

Make sure you take a second to take a deep breath, take it all in and appreciate where you are.  Without a doubt, one of the best Pulau Redang things to do.

Try Other Beach Activities

kayak redang

There are many other beach activities when you are wondering what can we do in Redang Island. If you walk around the beach areas near your resort, you may find volleyball nets and kayaks to rent.

Kayaking, in particular, is a fun thing to do in Redang. Take a kayak out and you won’t have to paddle far to hit your own private spot.

Have A Close Encounter With A Turtle

Swimming with turtles around Redang Island

It’s not hard to find turtles in the waters around Redang, so if you are a turtle lover, this may be your #1 Pulau Redang tourist attraction.

In addition to being able to snorkel and dive with turtles, another one of the Redang things to do is to visit the SEATRU Turtle Lab at the Taaras Resort.  This centre is staffed by marine biologists and aims to educate guests while it helps the sea turtles around Redang.  Here, you can learn about sea turtles from their life cycle to identifying species, measuring them and learning about their predators.

During the hatching season from April to October, it’s possible to watch baby turtles being released into the sea. This happens at Taaras as well as Laguna Redang.

There are also boat tours specifically to see turtles. These start at RM40.

Explore Redang Island By Trekking

The very easy trek from Long Beach to Teluk Kalong

It’s not just the water and beach that are places to visit in Pulau Redang – it’s also worth exploring the interior of the island by hiking.

While hiking Redang Island, you’ll see a range of flora and fauna, and you get to see more of the island. There also aren’t many roads on the island, so hiking in Redang is also a great way to get around. It’s a win from every angle!

A few popular Redang hiking options are:

  • The road between Kampung Jetty and the Taaras Resort. Basically, you are heading from the main jetty at the south of the island to the beach in the north. It’s about 3 kilometres long and takes you through the airstrip and village.  It’s an easier trek and you are likely to see farm animals as well as monitor lizards.
  • The road between the back of Coral Redang and Redang Bay Resorts on Long Beach to Teluk Dalam (where Taaras is located). It passes through forest, mangroves and has uphill and downhill sections. It’s about 2 kilometres long and you should wear good shoes.
  • An easy short walk of only about 800 metres is from the end of Long Beach near the Laguna Redang Resort to Teluk Kalong’s north beach (picture above).

Enjoy The Night Life At The Island

When it comes to what to do in Redang at night, the answer is not much! This is not a party island.

However, many bars and restaurants are open late and the Laguna Redang has a disco and karaoke lounges open until midnight. They also often have live bands.

Relax And Be Pampered At The Spa

If you need some pampering and wondering what to do at Redang Island, then head to one of the resorts for luxury spa experiences. This is the perfect activity in Redang Island to unwind – particularly after a day of snorkelling or hiking.  Don’t forget this one when you are thinking about what to do at Pulau Redang.

There is a range of treatments on offer from massages to manicures to facials. Particularly recommended are the spas at the Taaras and Laguna Redang.

BONUS: 11th Thing To Do On Redang Island

Long Beach or Pasir Panjang, Redang Island

When you visit Pulau Redang, of course, you can also just relax at the beach. The beaches are so nice here, I’m sure you won’t want to miss this activity on your vacation in Redang Island!

Best Resorts In Redang Island

Resorts lining Long Beach. Even for a built up area, it’s not very built up

When working out where to stay in Redang, you need to consider where you want to be. Most of the things to do at Pulau Redang above can be done from anywhere so location is not important from a Pulau Redang attraction standpoint.

However, if you like to be in an area where there will be more people and resort and restaurant options, then the Redang Island Long Beach (or Pasir Panjang) is a good place to head.

If you would prefer to be somewhere less busy, then the Taaras Resort at the northern end of the island is the place to be.

For a full guide to where to stay in Redang Island, click here for our best resorts guide.

Laguna Redang Island Resort

laguna resort Redang, laguna resort pulau Redang

The Laguna Redang Island Resort is my personal pick of the accommodation on Redang Island thanks to great facilities and a beautiful location that is still central.

It’s a big resort and there are heaps of Laguna Redang activities with every facility you could wish for including a great pool, day spa, dive centre, gift shop and a recreation centre where you can hire equipment or play a game of pool. It also has a range of eating options, including a handy food court with good prices and good variety. Even their buffets are delicious.

It’s located at the southern end of the main beach area, Long Beach. This means you can easily visit other restaurants and attractions nearby. Being at the end makes it a bit less busy too.

The location is gorgeous and it’s very easy to get here with the resort operating its own ferry twice a day. We love the sea view rooms!

Click here for more information or read my full review here.

Taaras Beach & Spa Resort

holiday in terengganu essay

The Taaras is the most luxury resort on the island and is tucked away on its own private (and beautiful) beach. It’s less busy thanks to there being fewer resorts around here.

There is a huge range of room types including the ultimate treat with a 5-bedroom villa located on a clifftop with stunning views, its own infinity pool, elevator and butler. It’s my dream to stay in this villa one day!

There are many facilities and eating options here, including a pool, karaoke room and a top rated day spa. I especially love the turtle program described above. There is also a supervised playroom for kids.

Getting to Redang Island, Malaysia generally involves two parts to your journey – travelling to either Shahbandar Jetty in Kuala Terengganu or Merang Jetty about 30 kilometres north of Merang and then taking a ferry across to the island.

If your resort does not have its own ferry, your best bet is to travel to Merang where you can take a ferry across to the Village Jetty at the southern end of Redang. From here, you may need to take another boat to your resort if you are staying on Long Beach or a taxi.

Click here to see the latest timetables and prices.

Even if your resort has its own ferry, it may be cost effective to take the ferry linked to above. This also runs more often so it might be more convenient for you. If you are on a resort ferry, make sure you are clear on exactly where it leaves from as this can vary.

Whichever way you go, you will need to pay the Pulau Redang Marine Park Conservation fee before boarding your boat. This is currently RM5 for Malaysian adults and RM2 for kids or RM30 for adult foreigners, RM15 for kids.

Getting to Kuala Terengganu is possible by flying from Kuala Lumpur or bus from many parts of Malaysia. You can also take a private taxi which makes it ultra easy.

It’s also possible to fly to Redang Island from Subang Airport in Kuala Lumpur on Berjaya Air. This can be expensive, but will save you a lot of time.

How To Get Around Redang Island

There are not many roads on Redang Island which makes the easiest way to get around by boat. To stay on land, you generally need to hike although there are a few roads, particularly from the main village to the Taaras where you can hire someone to drive you.

Best Time To Visit Redang Island

The best time to visit Redang Island is from late March to October. The monsoon season is from November to March and most of the resorts and facilities for tourists are shut during this time.

It can be hard to even get to Pulau Redang, Malaysia during the monsoon as turbulent waters mean a lack of boats and the normal ferries don’t run. It’s also not a great time for Redang activity such as snorkelling or diving because of this and it’s best to keep away until the monsoon is over.

The best times to visit can be March after the monsoon is over and things are just opening, and October, before the monsoon starts. Tourist numbers are lower at this time, but you do run the risk of the monsoon finishing late or starting early and the water does tend to be rougher at this time.

The busiest months on Redang are from May to August, especially during school holidays in June.

Redang Island With Kids

pool and water slide at Laguna Redang Resort

I took my 7 year old with me to Redang on my last visit and we had a great time!

Redang Island is the perfect place to visit with kids and many families do. Many resorts have family room options and this list of things to do at Redang Island is just about perfect for kids who generally love easy beach holidays with lots of natural attractions.

Final Words

The northern end of Long Beach

Redang Island is a beautiful part of the world and I highly recommend it if you love stunning holidays with lots of natural attractions where it’s simple to keep things easy and inactive or to be adventurous.

It’s my favourite place for a gorgeous island adventure in Malaysia.

It would be a shame to visit and not to head into the water or the jungle at least once though and make sure you fit in as many gorgeous sunrises and sunsets as you can!

I Took A Day Trip To Pulau Kapas, Terengganu - Here's My Experience

avatar-name

Have Halal Will Travel  •  Aug 07, 2020

This story about a day trip to Pulau Kapas, Terengganu is written by one of our contributors, Capieq. Some parts of the article may have been edited for length and clarity.

After spending months at home due to MCO, I felt like travelling somewhere to release all of those pent-up stress. For this reason, I decided to visit Terengganu.

holiday in terengganu essay

Do you know that Terengganu has an island surrounded by crystal clear water and breathtaking scenery? This island is called Pulau Kapas.

holiday in terengganu essay

This island is not really well known compared to Terengganu's other gems; Redang and Perhentian, but the beauty of this island is indescribable. Needless to say, I was captivated by it.

holiday in terengganu essay

To get here, I travelled by car to Marang Jetty on mainland Peninsular Malaysia and paid RM30 for a fast boat to Pulau Kapas for a return day trip! The trip takes around 15-20 minutes. Check out the Pulau Kapas boat service here and different packages which you can book. At Pulau Kapas, besides relaxing at the beaches, you can also snorkel, kayak or have a picnic.

P.S. Planning to stay longer in Pulau Kapas? Check out these 5 budget beach chalets on the island !

Must-visit spots: Bukit Singa and Teluk Berakit

holiday in terengganu essay

If you want to go to Bukit Singa and Teluk Berakit, you have to do some jungle trekking.

holiday in terengganu essay

The route is not really challenging, but if you don't feel like doing it, you can always stay at the beach and enjoy the scenery and breezy beach wind.

holiday in terengganu essay

Personally, I'd strongly suggest giving Teluk Berakit a go. FYI, it's a hidden beach. It's quite secluded, so you can expect a beautiful, sandy beach with less people.

holiday in terengganu essay

It'll take you around 30 mins for a short trek and 1 hour 30 mins by long trek through the coast.

holiday in terengganu essay

P.S. Love beach getaways? Tick these 7 East Coast islands off your bucket list !

Useful tips before you visit Pulau Kapas

  • Pack lightly as the trek is a bit winding and I'm afraid some of you might get into trouble while trekking.
  • Bring some food for a picnic and relaxing under a coconut tree.
  • Dont forget to take a dip in the bluish clear water when you reach there.
  • Before I forget, the most necessary thing when it comes to travelling; good pictures. Remember to bring your camera/phone so that you'll be able to take pictures and post it on your social media and share it with your friends and family

How much does an essay cost?

Starting your search for an agency, you need to carefully study the services of each option. There are a lot of specialists in this area, so prices vary in a wide range. But you need to remember that the quality of work directly depends on the cost. Decide immediately what is more important to you - financial savings or the result.

Companies always indicate how much 1000 characters of text costs, so that the client understands what price to expect and whether it is worth continuing to cooperate.

At Essayswriting, it all depends on the timeline you put in it. Professional authors can write an essay in 3 hours, if there is a certain volume, but it must be borne in mind that with such a service the price will be the highest. The cheapest estimate is the work that needs to be done in 14 days. Then 275 words will cost you $ 10, while 3 hours will cost you $ 50. Please, take into consideration that VAT tax is totally included in the mentioned prices. The tax will be charged only from EU customers.

When choosing an agency, try to pay more attention to the level of professionalism, and then evaluate the high cost of work.

Pricing depends on the type of task you wish to be completed, the number of pages, and the due date. The longer the due date you put in, the bigger discount you get!

What is a good essay writing service?

Oddly enough, but many people still have not come across a quality service. A large number of users fall for deceivers who take their money without doing their job. And some still fulfill the agreements, but very badly.

A good essay writing service should first of all provide guarantees:

  • confidentiality of personal information;
  • for the terms of work;
  • for the timely transfer of the text to the customer;
  • for the previously agreed amount of money.

The company must have a polite support service that will competently advise the client, answer all questions and support until the end of the cooperation. Also, the team must get out of conflict situations correctly.

It is necessary to have several payment methods on the site to make it easier for the client to transfer money.

And of course, only highly qualified writers with a philological education should be present in the team, who will not make spelling and punctuation errors in the text, checking all the information and not stealing it from extraneous sites.
