How to Write a Cover Letter for Your Australian Tourist Visa Application

Applying for an Australian Tourist Visa can be a seamless experience if you understand the importance of a well-crafted cover letter. The cover letter is not just a formality; it's an opportunity to explain your travel plans, highlight your financial capacity to support the trip and make a case for why you should be granted a visa.

This introductory letter should outline your purpose of travel, provide a snapshot of your travel itinerary, and convincingly demonstrate your financial capacity to support your stay in Australia. It's more than just a procedural necessity; it's a personalized narrative that bridges your intentions with the formal requirements of the visa application. Crafting an effective cover letter can significantly enhance your chances of enjoying the wonders of Australia. Here’s a guide to help you write an effective cover letter for your Australia Tourist Visa application.

Understanding the Role of a Cover Letter in Your Visa Application

A cover letter is a crucial component of your visa application, particularly when applying for an Australian Tourist Visa. It serves as your introduction to the visa officers, offering a narrative that ties together your visa application, including elements like your travel itinerary and financial capacity. The cover letter explains the purpose of your visit, providing context to the information outlined in the application forms. It's an opportunity to clarify your intentions, demonstrate your ties to your home country, and reassure the authorities of your plans to adhere to visa conditions. In essence, a well-crafted cover letter personalizes your application, making it more than just a collection of documents and forms. It plays a pivotal role in painting a complete picture of your proposed visit, thus enhancing the chances of a favorable outcome for your Australian Tourist Visa application.

1. Start with a Clear Structure

When composing a cover letter for your Australian Tourist Visa application, beginning with a clear structure is crucial. This structure should include your personal information, the date, and the recipient's details. The letter should then be organized into distinct sections: an introduction explaining your intent to visit Australia, a detailed travel itinerary showcasing your planned activities, a demonstration of your financial capacity to fund the trip, and a conclusion reiterating your ties to your home country. Such organization not only makes your cover letter coherent but also ensures that all key elements, like your travel itinerary and financial capacity, are effectively communicated.

2. Crafting the Introduction

Crafting an effective introduction for your cover letter is crucial when applying for an Australian Tourist Visa. This section should concisely introduce yourself and clearly state the purpose of your visit. Begin by mentioning your full name, state the purpose of your visit, and the specific type of Australian Tourist Visa you are applying for. Briefly outline your travel plans, including the duration of your stay. This not only sets the context for the visa officer but also demonstrates a well-thought-out plan. Remember, the introduction is your first impression in the visa application process; make it clear, precise, and engaging, ensuring it aligns seamlessly with the rest of your application.

3. Detailing Your Travel Itinerary

In your Australian Tourist Visa application, detailing your travel itinerary is crucial. This section should concisely outline your planned destinations, accommodation, and activities in Australia. Mention dates, cities you'll visit, and any booked tours or significant events. For instance, if you're exploring Sydney, include landmarks like the Sydney Opera House or Bondi Beach. Emphasize how your itinerary aligns with a tourist's intent, reinforcing the purpose of your visa application. This information helps the visa officer understand your travel plans and assess your application accordingly.

4. Demonstrating Financial Capacity

In your Australian Tourist Visa application, demonstrating financial capacity is crucial. This section of your cover letter should detail your financial stability, proving that you can support yourself during your Australian visit without the need for employment. Include evidence of steady income, savings, or investments, and mention any sponsorships if applicable. Attach bank statements, payslips, or sponsorship letters as proof. This demonstration of financial capacity ensures the visa officer of your economic ability to manage travel expenses, accommodation, and other costs associated with your travel itinerary, reinforcing the credibility of your visa application. This assures the visa officer that you can financially sustain yourself during your visit and are unlikely to seek employment in Australia.

5. Tying Up with Personal and Professional Ties

It’s important to mention your personal and professional ties to your home country. This could include your job, family, property, or any other commitments that indicate your intention to return home after your visit. This part of the cover letter assures the visa officer of your strong ties to your home country, reducing the risk of overstay.

Demonstrating these ties serves as reassurance to the visa officers that you have significant reasons to return after your visit. Including details of your professional responsibilities, such as your role, duration of employment, and any leave approvals, alongside personal commitments, reinforces your intent to adhere to the travel itinerary and terms of the financial capacity you have outlined in your visa application.

6. Conclude with a Polite and Positive Tone

In concluding your cover letter for the Australian Tourist Visa application, it's essential to maintain a polite and optimistic tone. Express your sincere gratitude for the consideration of your application and reiterate your enthusiasm for visiting Australia. Highlight your commitment to adhering to the visa guidelines and your respect for Australian laws and culture. A positive closing note can leave a lasting impression, reinforcing your suitability for the visa. Remember, your cover letter is not just a formality; it's a reflection of your personality and intentions for your travel itinerary and financial capacity to explore Australia.

7. Review and Proofread

Before submitting your Australian Tourist Visa application, it's crucial to review and proofread your documents meticulously. Check for any errors, both in content and formatting, to ensure accuracy and professionalism. Pay special attention to your cover letter, travel itinerary, and financial documents. This final step helps you present a polished and convincing application, enhancing your chances of approval. Take the time to double-check all details, Check for any spelling or grammatical errors, and ensure all the information is accurate and consistent with the details in your application form.

8. Attaching Supporting Documents

Attach copies of relevant supporting documents, such as your travel itinerary, proof of financial capacity, employment letter, and any other documents that strengthen your application. Make sure these are well-organized and easy to navigate.

Others types of visas include student visas, business visas, media visas, fiancé visas , and many others depending on the place you're travelling to.

Top tip: travel insurance for your visa application

Most tourist visa applications require you to show proof of travel insurance coverage for the duration of your trip. We use and recommend SafetyWing as our preferred travel medical insurance provider. It's the most flexible and affordable we've found, starting at just $1.32 per day. They can also provide a visa letter to support your application. If you're looking for more comprehensive coverage, World Nomads is also a reliable and very popular alternative among global travelers. Note: In our experience and to the best of our knowledge, these two travel insurance options fulfill the requirements for most tourist visa applications. However, please make sure to check that they meet the specific criteria applicable to your individual case.

The Visa Officer

Australian High Commission

Subject: Request for Australian Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)

Respected Sir/Madam,

I am Sita Kumari and I am an Indian citizen residing in Mumbai. I am writing this letter to request a visitor visa (subclass 600) to explore the Australian wonders of nature. The duration of my stay in Australia will be for one week (DD.MM.YYYY to DD.MM.YYYY)  as I intend to spend my winter vacation this year traversing the sparkling beaches, beautiful landscapes and exotic tourist destinations.

My detailed research on Australian destinations have helped me prepare the following itinerary which I have attached for your kind consideration:

Day 1 – I am scheduled to arrive at the “name of airport” at “flight timing” on DD.MM.YYYY. I intend to spend that day in Melbourne city, explore popular spots like Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, Queen Victoria Markets and call it a day with a chilled beer served at a local pub.

Day 2 – I want to take on to the Great Ocean Road and drive through seaside towns, hoping for whale lookouts along the picturesque mountain ranges. I hope to visit Port Campbell National Park too.

Day 3 – I am taking “flight number” to Sydney scheduled at “flight timing” on DD.MM.YYYY. I have reservations at “name of hotel”. I intend to hire a tour guide at The Rocks neighbourhood to go on a local pub tour.

Day 4 – I want to go hiking at the UNESCO World Heritage Region, Blue Mountains together with exploring the rich fauna and flora. I also want to witness the Grose Valley which is also better known as Australia’s Grand Canyon.

Day 5 – I intend to fly to Cairns at “flight timing” from “name of airport” on DD.MM.YYYY. I am eager to experience the night fire dinner at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.

Day 6 – I want to spend the next entire day exploring the beautiful Great Barrier Reef. I intend to board a catamaran, go snorkelling and learn about the reefs.

Day 7 – I want to spend the day shopping for my family and then board the “name of flight” scheduled at “flight timing” and get back to Mumbai on DD.MM.YYYY.

I am a doctor by profession and I am currently working at Fortis Hospital Mulund as Senior Gastroenterologist. I earn a handsome salary of XXXXX and I will be funding my trip by myself. I have a savings account in “name of bank” in which I maintained a bank balance of XXXXXX. This will be enough to do with all the expenses I will incur during my pleasure trip to Australia.

I am hereby declaring that I have no intentions to prolong my stay beyond DD.MM.YYYY. I have to return back to my parents who have raised me with love and care. I am a single child and they have set aside their lives to do everything to make my dreams come true. Hence, I am trying to pay that debt by being there for them in their old age. Though they will be looked after by my first cousin, Shyamala Kumari, who is visiting them for her vacation, I need to take the baton back within one week. She has plans to visit her parents, my uncle and aunt, who currently reside in Visakhapatnam.

Besides, I have to get back to my role as a healthcare professional at Fortis. I have been granted a leave from DD.MM.YYYY until DD.MM.YYYY which is exactly the duration I intend to stay in Australia. Hence, I have to return to Mumbai as it is my permanent home.

I am attaching the following documents with this cover letter for your evaluation:

  • Copy of my passport
  • Savings bank account statements
  • ITRs filed
  • Ownership documents of both moveable and immoveable property in Mumbai
  • Photographs that meet the visa requirements
  • Copy of my Aadhar card
  • Travel insurance
  • Proof of my leave approval
  • My payslips
  • My registration certificate

I am certain that I have presented all the information with utmost accuracy and clarity. If you need any further clarification or documents, please contact me at “phone number” or “email id”.

I would like to close by expressing my sincere gratitude for the time and consideration for my visitor visa application to Australia.

Yours Sincerely,

Sita Kumari

australian tourist visa application

Australia offers a wide range of visas depending on the purpose of your visit. It can be visitor visas, studying and training visas, family and partner visas, working and skilled visas , refugee and humanitarian visas, and other types of visas. These types of visas are further subdivided into different categories depending on the specific purpose of your stay.

For a visitor visa, it is further subdivided into 6 different categories, namely:

  • Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601)
  • eVisitor (Subclass 651)
  • Transit visa (Subclass 771)
  • Visitor visa (Subclass 600)
  • Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462), and
  • Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417).

Visitor visa (Subclass 600) is the visa for tourists, business visitors or to visit family with a duration of 3, 6 or 12 months . It is further subdivided into 3 streams, namely:

  • Visitor visa (Subclass 600) – Tourist Stream
  • Visitor visa (Subclass 600) – Sponsored Family Stream
  • Visitor visa (Subclass 600) – Business Visitor Stream.

For purposes of this article, I will focus on the Visitor visa (Subclass 600) – Tourist Stream because this is the type of visa you need to apply if the purpose of your stay is for tourism or holiday and to visit family and friends.

For a complete list of different types of Australian visas, go to this link .

If you are not sure which kind of visa to apply for, you can use the visa finder which will show you visa options that suit your needs.

This visa stream lets you enter Australia to visit as a tourist, go on a cruise, or to see family and friends. You can also study or train for up to 3 months in total.

You must be a genuine tourist and have enough funds to support your stay.

What Are the Requirements for the Australian Tourist Visa Application?

Here are the documents you need to provide when applying under the Subclass 600 (Visitor Visa) – Tourism Stream:

If you apply online, this form is filled out online.

  • Copy of your passport including the photo page
  • Copy of all visas, entry and exit stamps

3. Documents to show you are a visitor

  • Employment certificate indicating the length of employment and annual salary, and
  • Bank statement showing salary credits for the last 3 months
  • Business tax returns for the last two years, and
  • Bank deposit slip as evidence of tax payments

You can also submit evidence of your business license or registration (e.g. SEC or DTI Registration , Mayor’s Permit, BIR Registration ) and any supporting documents to demonstrate your role.

  • Letter invitation from your friend or relative in Australia
  • Copy of the bio page of their passport
  • Evidence of your relationship to your relative or friend, and
  • Evidence that they have the necessary funds to support your intended stay
  • Bank certificate showing the average daily balance for the last 3 months; and
  • Bank statements showing account transactions for the last 3 months

You may also submit payslip or any evidence to demonstrate a consistent savings history and/or a regular income over time covering a three-month period. If another person will be supporting your stay in Australia , you will also need to submit the equivalent financial documents of the person supporting you.

Per instruction of the ImmiAccount, you are still required to submit evidence of your financial status even if a friend or relative is funding your trip as your financial status is one of the factors in assessing whether your personal circumstances would encourage you to return to the Philippines.

5. For minor applicants

  • Birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) . If the birth certificate is late registered , a copy of the duly certified hospital records showing where the applicant was born is required
  • Evidence of enrollment at school, college or university.
  • Duly accomplished Form 1229 by the non-traveling parent, and
  • Parent’s contact information and valid government-issued ID with signature
  • Duly accomplished Form 1229 by both parents
  • Both parent’s contact information and valid government-issued ID with signature, and
  • Duly accomplished Form 1257 by the person who will be responsible for the child in Australia and valid government ID.

Please note that a travel permit from the DSWD does not constitute consent. Minor applicants are still required to provide the documents above.

6. Additional requirements

In addition to the above, the following documents may also be submitted or attached to your application:

In my case, I submitted a family photo.

For this requirement, you may submit an itinerary detailing your holiday or recreation plans, visits to family and friends or if you are taking short courses (for up to 3 months only). A general list of places, dates, and activities will suffice. A sample itinerary may look like this.

For the record, I did not submit a cover letter when I applied for an Australian tourist visa. I thought it’s not necessary because it’s not in the checklist of requirements.

Moreover, I’m not sure if it will increase the chances of getting the visa as what the cover letter serves is only summarizing your travel plans and enumerating the documents to support your application. These information are already written/reflected in the application.

However, I also think there’s nothing wrong if an applicant desires to have a cover letter. More documents you submit, the better. Essentially and as in all visa applications, you need to prove you have the financial capacity to fund your trip and you have a strong reason to go back to the Philippines (and these are seen in the supporting documents you submit).

Should a cover letter be submitted, the applicant can attach the same in Additional documents (“other” documents”). For a sample cover letter intended for an Australian tourist visa application , you may check out this link or see the screenshot below.

There are two ways you can apply for an Australian tourist visa: Online application via ImmiAccount or paper-based application via third-party provider VFS Global.

Between the two options, online application via ImmiAccount is better . It is convenient as you only need a computer and Internet to submit your application, eliminating the need to visit the Australian Visa Application Centre. It is also easy to track your application in your ImmiAccount.

Per the Australian Embassy, online applications are processed two times faster than paper-based applications. Over 80% of the applicants for the Visitor visa lodged their application online.

However, for the benefit of those who prefer to apply using the traditional method, we’ll be discussing both the online and paper-based application procedures in detail.

  • Your passport is not submitted during your application. What is needed is only a photocopy of your passport, hence, you can travel and use your passport while waiting for your visa to be approved.
  • The Australian Embassy in the Philippines and VFS Global warn applicants of rampant visa scams . Avoid these scams by applying for the visa yourself. The process is pretty simple and straightforward and you can surely do it on your own.
  • Always be truthful in your answers and make sure your statement matches the documents you submitted. Declaring a false statement or submitting a false document will lead to denial of your visa application.
  • As of this writing, the documentary requirements for an Australian visa application don’t need to be notarized.

How to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa: Requirements & Process in the Philippines

Save time and effort by applying for an Australian tourist visa online! All you have to do is create an account, fill out the application form, upload your requirements, and pay the corresponding fee. This guide provides the detailed steps for Filipinos, as well as a sample cover letter and itinerary template.

australian-tourist-visa

  • If you are a Philippine passport-holder who wants to travel to Australia for leisure, you must apply for a tourist visa.
  • The Australian Embassy strongly encourages online applications, but you may also submit your documents at VFS Global in Makati or Cebu.
  • To apply online, create an ImmiAccount. This will give you access to the self-service visa portal that’s operated by Australia’s Department of Home Affairs.
  • Fill out the Australian tourist visa application form and attach the required and supporting documents. These include your birth certificate, daily itinerary, bank certificate, bank statements, and documents that prove your occupation, i.e. COE for employees.
  • If you would like to expound on your travel plans or personal background, you may also write a cover letter. A sample is provided below.
  • If you plan to travel with family members, submit your applications together using only one ImmiAccount. (Multiple applicant profiles can be created under one account.)
  • Pay the Australian tourist visa processing fee of A$145 via credit card, select debit cards, PayPal, or Unionpay. The rate is as of February 2020 and does not include applicable surcharges.
  • Processing of visa applications may take 2 to 28 days.
  • If granted a visa, you will be sent a notice. It should inform  you if you were issued a single-entry or a multiple-entry Australian visa, as well as your allowable period of stay.
  • If, at this point, you feel overwhelmed by all the information, keep calm! You’ll get through this. Meanwhile, start checking out the activities in Sydney and Gold Coast that you can easily book from WAUG — the #1 travel activity booking platform from South Korea! Download the app here to start browsing.

1. How to Determine the Australian Visa to Apply For

If this is your first time to apply for a visa to Australia, a good place to start is the Visa Finder . This is a simple online tool that will let you explore the visa options that are avilable to you depending on your purpose.

The Visa Finder will ask your primary intention for traveling. As you can see below, acceptable responses (for temporary stay) include: visiting a family member, attending an event, transiting through Australia, or undergoing medical treatment, among others.

australian-visa

Since I intend to engage in sightseeing activities, I ticked a holiday or the topmost selection. After providing my country of passport, the Visa Finder gave me this recommendation: Tourist Stream under Visitor Visa (Subclass 600).

how-to-apply-for-australian-tourist-visa

The Tourist Stream (application from outside Australia) is what I will cover in this guide. If we have the same primary purpose, i.e. you want to take a (much-needed and well-deserved) vacation, read on further for the steps to take. However, if you have a different reason for traveling, go to the Visa Finder and confirm the Australian visa type/s that are recommended for you.

2. Ways to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa

Filipinos may consider two options: online via an ImmiAccount or offline via the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) that’s operated by VFS Global. Let’s look at the overview for each approach:

Paper Application via VFS Global

Here are the steps if you want to apply for a tourist visa via VFS Global (AVAC):

  • Accomplish, print, and sign the Form 1419 (Application for a Visitor Visa – Tourist Stream).
  • Gather supporting documents.
  • Prepare a Manager’s Cheque that’s payable to “Australian Embassy”.
  • Schedule an appointment to submit your requirements at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).
  • Collect your Visa Letter from the AVAC.

For the Manager’s Cheque: Must be drawn from any bank in the Philippines, except rural banks. The amount should be in Philippine Peso. Moreover, no other method of payment will be accepted.

For Scheduling an Appointment with AVAC: An appointment is necessary to submit your Australian visa application requirements. You or a representative may submit the documents at the VFS Global office in Makati or Cebu, which are open on weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 7am-2pm, except public holidays. Alternatively, you may also request for a one-way or two-way courier delivery.

For the Visa Letter from AVAC: This contains the result of your application. You may check your email or wait for courier delivery.

Online Application

The other way to apply for an Australian tourist visa is online via an ImmiAccount. Personally, I think this is more efficient and convenient compared to the Paper Application because there’s no third party involved. This means that you can have your application processed as soon as you have the documents uploaded and fees paid. There’s no more waiting on your appointment slot or your courier, which, at times, can be frustrating. We’ll look at this approach in detail in the succeeding sections.

3. Steps to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa Online

Once you’ve confirmed that the Tourist Stream is the right visa for you and decided that you’ll proceed with an Australian visa online application, take note of the following steps:

  • Create an ImmiAccount.
  • Fill out the application form.
  • Attach your supporting documents.
  • Pay the fee using a credit card or PayPal.

Yes, the online process is more straightforward and, as you may realize later on, pretty enjoyable!

4. How to Create an ImmiAccount for Your Australian Visa Application

Signing up for an ImmiAccount lets you access the self-service portal where you, a family member, or a friend can do the following:

  • Create and complete an Australian tourist visa application (personal and group)
  • Check the status of an application
  • Update passport details
  • Change the provided email and address

To get started, register for an ImmiAccount here . You will be asked for your name, mobile number, phone number, and a valid email address. Since the email that you’ll provide will be used to communicate updates that pertain to your application (and your group members’, if applicable), it is best to nominate one that you always check.

Once you’ve signed up, you will receive a confirmation email. Follow the link so you can create a New Application for Visitor Visa (Subclass 600). You’ll then be asked to fill out a 20-page visa application form.

If you have not received an email after signing up, try to do the following steps: add homeaffairs.gov.au to your safe or trusted senders list, check your application to see if you typed the right email address, and check your Junk or Spam folder.

5. How to Fill Out the Online Australian Tourist Visa Application Form

In case you missed it, the visa application form has 20 pages. It may sound a bit tedious, but it’s actually pretty manageable. It will inquire of your personal details, travel plans to Australia, family background, health, character, occupation, and funding, among others. The good thing is that it’s not meant to be filled out in one sitting, so you can stop and save as you go. (Take your time when accomplishing the form and reviewing your responses.)

To help you prepare for this step, we’ve listed some questions that will be asked in the online Australian tourist visa application form (similar to the Form 1419 that I mentioned under Paper Application):

5.1 How long do you wish to stay in Australia?

Choices will include Up to 3 months, Up to 6 months, and Up to 12 months .

5.2 Do you hold an identity card or identity number issued to you by your government (e.g. National Identity Card)?

As of writing time, the National Identity Card system is on a dry-run phase in the Philippines. Hence, you can tick No.

However, if you happen to have a National Identity Number already, supply the details.

5.3 Are you traveling to or are you currently in Australia with any family members?

If your answer is Yes , you will need to provide the details of each of your family members in this part of the Australian tourist visa application form.

5.4 Do you have a partner, any children, or fiancé who will NOT be traveling (or has not traveled) to Australia with you?

This one seems to check your social ties in the Philippines. You will have to provide the full name, date of birth, and the person’s address if your response is Yes .

5.5 Why do you want to visit Australia?

Include details of any dates that are of special significance to your visit. For example, if you or someone in your group will celebrate a birthday or anniversary in Australia, indicate it in the spaces provided.

5.6 In the last 5 years, have you visited or lived outside your country of passport for more than 3 consecutive months?

If your answer is Yes, provide the country(s) and dates. This question actually falls under Health Details, so, subsequently, you will be asked if you expect to incur any medical costs during your trip or have had (or currently have) tuberculosis.

5.7 What is your employment status?

You’ll be asked to give the details of your employer, business, or school, whichever is applicable.

5.8 Explain why you are unemployed and give details of your last employment, if applicable.

Share the details. If you have been invited to or have attended job interviews already, it might be good to highlight that as well.

5.9 Give details of how you will maintain yourself financially while you are in Australia.

This part of the Australian tourist visa application form seeks to know how you plan to cover all costs that are associated with your visit. You must be able to demonstrate that you have adequate source/s of funds.

5.10 Is your sponsor or someone else providing support for your visit to Australia?

If your response is in the affirmative, you will have to specify their details and type of support that they’ll give, i.e. financial, accommodation, and others.

Select the application from the list and click Edit .

For group applicants, you may copy a visa application of the same type for a family member and a friend to save time. Here are the steps:

  • Select the checkbox for the application you want to copy.
  • Select Actions .
  • Select Copy from the drop-down list.
  • Choose Confirm .
  • Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Choose Next .
  • The duplicate copy of the application will then show in your ImmiAccount.

Information of the original Australian visa applicant is not copied across. The added person can write over any of the copied information.

If you need to update your residential or postal address, i.e. you will be living at a different residential address for more than 14 days or your postal address has changed, do the following steps so the Australian government can contact you, if needed:

  • Log in to ImmiAccount.
  • Select Update details .
  • Choose Change of address details .
  • Select the applicant.
  • Select the checkbox for Residential address or postal address .
  • Enter the new details.
  • Hit Submit form .

Do the following steps if you need to update your email:

  • Choose Update details .
  • Select Change of email address details .
  • Enter your new email address.
  • Click Next and expect to receive a new confirmation link.

6. Australian Tourist Visa Requirements & Supporting Documents for Filipinos

Here are the requirements to apply for an Australian tourist visa, as taken from this list provided by the Australian Embassy in the Philippines (note that your application dashboard will also tell you what documents to attach!):

6.1 Passport Bio Page

Scan the page 2 of your current passport, which contains your photo, basic information, and passport info.

6.2 Passport Pages with Visas, Entry & Exit Stamps, Amendments, and Endorsements, if applicable

Aside from visas and stamps in your current passport, also scan those that are found in your old passport/s. These will serve as evidence of your travel history.

6.3 One (1) Passport-Size Photo

Your Australian tourist visa application picture must show your head and shoulders against a plain background.

6.4 PSA Birth certificate

Prepare a scanned copy of your certificate of birth that’s issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA (formerly NSO).

If the Birth Certificate is late registered: A certified copy of hospital records where the applicant was born is required, according to the Australian Embassy in the Philippines.

6.5 Occupation-specific documents

Submit documents that best demonstrate your present engagement. The following lists contain the most commonly submitted requirements and some suggestions that you may consider. Of course, if you feel like you have other documents that may serve as strong evidence to your present occupation, do not hesitate to attach them.

For EMPLOYEES

If you are a Filipino employee, submit any or all of the following:

  • Certificate of Employment or COE, which indicates your role, hiring date, length of employment, and annual salary. If possible, have your COE show that you intend to return to your job (for example, He or she will resume work on… ).
  • Pay slips
  • Business Card
  • Bank statements showing salary credits for the last three (3) months
  • Evidence of leave, such as an approved request

For BUSINESS OWNERS

Likewise, those who own a business or are self-employed may want to submit all or any of the following:

  • DTI/SEC Registration
  • Business permit
  • Business tax return for the last two (2) Years
  • Bank deposit slip as evidence of tax payments

For STUDENTS

Australian tourist visa applicants who are still studying may submit their Certificate of Enrollment. It may also help to submit a copy of the front and back side of the School ID.

6.6 Financial Documents

To prove your financial capacity, you must submit these requirements as per the Embassy:

  • Bank Certificate showing the average daily balance for the last three (3) months
  • Bank statements showing account transactions for the last three (3) months

To strengthen your Australian visa application, you may also consider submitting your Income Tax Return or ITR, audited accounts, and documents that show that you own a house or other major assets in the Philippines.

6.7 Daily Itinerary in Australia (Travel Plans)

A personalized travel itinerary will serve as a strong evidence of your intentions as a tourist. Create a detailed one even if you have not booked your flights, accommodation, travel essentials, and tours yet. If you have already done so, then attach your booking confirmation/s (roundtrip tickets, for example) to show that you will return to the Philippines (but do this at your own risk — ideally, you should make any purchase after receiving the visa!). Keep in mind that the ultimate goal of this exercise is to demonstrate your planned activities as a tourist.

SAMPLE ITINERARY for Australian Visa Applicants

There’s no standard template provided for the daily itinerary requirement, so you are free to create your own or use a template, like what I have below. The sample contains my personal information, accommodation, and planned activities in Australia.

You do not need to have translated documents certified.

7. How to Write a Cover Letter for your Australian Visa Application

Writing a cover letter is OPTIONAL for Australian tourist visa applicants in the Philippines. You may consider writing one if you want to emphasize your purpose of travel, explain something about your personal or professional background, inform why you’re submitting a particular document, expound on how you will fund your travel costs, and others.

Here’s a cover letter that you may want to use as reference:

cover-letter-australian-visa

The sample above specifically emphasizes my personal intent, which is to make use of the long weekends in August. To customize this letter to your own purpose, refer to the following breakdown of the cover letter:

7.1 Date, Address, & Salutation

In the first few parts of your letter, indicate the date when you plan to submit your application, the address of the Australian Embassy, and the salutation:

June 15, 2020

Australian Embassy in The Philippines

Level 23 Tower 2, RCBC Plaza Tower 2

6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City 1200

Dear Sir/Madam:

7.2 Introduction

Directly state what you are writing about so that the reviewing officer will know your purpose of writing straight away. Keep your introduction 1-2 sentences short, like the following sample:

Good day! As part of my application to the Visitor Visa (Tourist Stream), I am writing this letter to provide more personal details about my reason for travel.

The next part of your cover letter is where you can provide a detailed explanation or backgrounder:

As I’ve shared in my application and itinerary, I intend to travel to Australia from August 21-31, 2020. I chose these dates because I would like to make good use of the holidays that fall on August 21st (special non-working holiday) and August 31st (regular holiday). Last year, I had a leisurely trip in South Korea and Taiwan that covers the same days.

7.4 Supporting Documents, if applicable

After providing your reason/s, let the visa officer know that you have prepared supporting documents that they can refer to, if any.

For reference, I attached my approved leave request from my employer. I also included

my approved leave request from my trip to East Asia last year.

7.5 Reinforcement of Intention to Travel for Tourism

The final part of your cover letter is where you want to demonstrate your travel plans and, perhaps, what you expect to get from the trip.

If granted a visa, I shall push through with my trip and enjoy the tailend of the winter

season. While I’ll be traveling alone, I know that I will delight in the attractions, markets,

and museums in Sydney and Melbourne.

7.6 Closing & Name Block

End your cover letter by thanking the Australian visa officer and adding a complimentary close.

Thank you for reviewing my application.

Respectfully yours,

Ryan Juancho Diocson

7.7 Signature

8. Australian Tourist Visa Fees & Methods of Payment

After you share your details in the form and attach your requirements, go ahead and take that final step: pay the Australian tourist visa fee! As of February 2020, the cost to apply is A$145 or around ₱5,000 per person, as shown below:

australian-tourist-visa-processing-fee-cost-time

To confirm the application fee for future dates, use the Visa Pricing Estimator .

However, do note that there will be additional fees, depending on how you would like to pay:

Payment of Australian Visa Fee using CREDIT or DEBIT CARD

Here are the surcharges for card transactions, as of writing time:

  • MasterCard (including debit MasterCard): 1.32%
  • VISA (including VISA debit Card): 1.32%
  • American Express (AMEX): 1.40%
  • Diners Club: 1.99%

Payment of Australian Visa Fee using PAYPAL

Surcharge of 1% applies.

Payment of Australian Visa Fee using UNIONPAY

If you have UnionPay and will use it to settle the processing costs, a surcharge of 1.90% applies.

9. Australian Tourist Visa Processing Time

After settling the fee, you should get an email that acknowledges receipt of your application. Now all that’s left to do is track the progress and wait for the result! If you used the Visa Finder tool, you might have seen the following information and timelines given by the Home Affairs:

  • 75% of Australian tourist visa applications take 17 days to process.
  • 90% of applications take 28 days.

This may have changed already, but don’t be surprised if you were able to receive a result or a Notice of Visa Grant in less than a week (or even in a matter of hours!)! It’s happened to many Filipinos, so check your ImmiAccount and email inbox for status updates from time to time. (But, hey, don’t stress!)

If you check the status of your visa application and find that you are asked to undergo a medical examination: Do it as soon as possible. However, note that NOT all tourist visa applicants will be required to undergo a health exam. Only do this step if you were instructed to in your application dashboard.

Moreover, if any other changes on your situation occur, i.e. birth, divorce, separation, marriage, de facto relationship, or death in your family, update the details BEFORE the Australian government finalizes your tourist visa application.

10. What is the maximum duration of stay for an Australian tourist visa?

It will depend on your purpose of travel and application, but it can be 3, 6, or 12 months.

11. If your Australian tourist visa application is APPROVED

Well done! Check your visa grant number, the date when your visa starts, and your visa conditions so you can plan your trip accordingly. The notice will also tell you if you were issued a multiple-entry Australian visa.

Print the decision and keep a copy with you when you travel to Australia.

For Group Applicants: The assessment is done individually, so there is a possibility that not all family or group members who lodged an online visa application together will get a visa.

For the Visa Grant Number: The next time that you apply for a visa, you’ll have to provide this number.

To get the most out of your Aussie trip: Download WAUG on your phone by clicking here . Discounts on the first booking await new users!

12. If your Australian tourist visa application is DENIED

The notice that you’ll receive will have the reason for rejection. It’ll also tell you if you have the right to a review of the decision.

13. Tips from Successful Tourist Visa Applicants

To provide more information (and hopefully inspiration!), we’ve provided some posts from this Facebook group that tackles Australian visa applications and DIY-style of traveling, among others. Since the group is set to private, I am only able to share screenshots from members who are kind enough and willing to share their experiences and thoughts (personally identifiable information blurred for privacy). Please do note that the following tips and responses may not be official, so while it may have worked for other applicants, it may or may not be beneficial or true for your application:

13.1 Apply for an Australian visa online or via a travel agency?

how-to-apply-for-australian-tourist-visa-online

The post reads: Sino kaya [pwede] tumulong sa akin [para mag-apply ng visa pa-Australia online?] PM naman ako. Magbigay na lang ako. 20k kasi sa agency na na-ask ko. PM na lang [po. Salamat.]

The commenters were one in saying that the online self-service portal is easy-to-use, as shown below:

Comment 1: Madali [lang. Mag-sign-up] ka for ImmiAccount

13.2 Is COE required?

australian-visa-application-requirements

Post : Hello. Any tips po for tourist visa application to Australia for somebody [working from home]? Do I really need to submit a COE?

Comment 1: If you are an employee — yes, of course.

Comment 2: Just recently submitted my visa application and still waiting for the Embassy. But for the requirements, recommended lang ang COE.

13.3 Do I really need to submit an itinerary for my visa application?

australian-visa-itinerary-sample

Post : Anyone [applied for an Australian visa online?] Need ba talaga maglagay ng itinerary? Nakalagay naman kasi [na] recommended, not required. May bearing ba? Picture for attention only.

It is still up to you, though.

13.4 Application is taking long to process

australian-visa-processing-time

Post : Good afternoon, guys. Ask ko lang sana: gaano katagal ba talaga bago lumabas ang visa sa Australia? Nag-apply po kasi kami last September 5. Hanggang ngayon wala pa ang results. Nakakakaba tuloy. May pag-asa pa kaya?

The post is dated September 29, 2019, so the member who posted this was already waiting for 24 days.

Comment: Hi. It really depends sa volume din ng applicants. Some visas are granted after 5-9 days. Sa iba, from 15-30 working days.

13.5 Multiple-Entry Australian Tourist Visa APPROVED!

australian-tourist-visa-multiple-entry-requirements

The post reads:  My 3rd visit visa in Australia. No job, no ITR, little amount sa bank (6 years na ang bank account ko.). May multiple properties — edge siguro iyon. [Sa previous application] ko, may job ako. I applied for single-entry lang (kasal kasi ng friend ko). 5 days lang talaga plano ko.

They gave me multiple-entry. Nanibago lang ako kasi ang tagal ng waiting sa result. At least makakatulog na ako.

The post also shows the applicant’s Notice of Visa Grant, which indicates that she was given a multiple-entry visa to Australia.

Guide To Australian Tourist Visa For Indians

Guide To Australian Tourist Visa For Indians

Scoring an Australian Tourist Visa as an Indian is quite an elaborate process. The good news is that now you can apply for your Australian visa online ! You don’t have to go anywhere to queue up for your turn. You can do it from home.

I have been through the visa process for Australia twice in my life so far. Thus, I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge in terms of how to go about applying for a tourist visa for Australia or for that matter any other country (I have also gone through the process of applying for a Schengen visa), and how to make sure that you get it without delay.

Also read: 10 Tips To Prepare For An International Trip

Tourist visa for Australia can get delayed. When I visited Australia in 2011, I was single and had a job, while in 2017, I was married and a freelancer. My visa took almost a month to arrive in both the scenarios. So, you got to be aware of that before you contemplate a trip to Australia. There are a lot of factors to consider, which I’m going to talk about in this post.

Guide To Australian Tourist Visa For Indians – The checklist you need to follow

Australia tourist visa documents for Indians

First things first, get your documents in place. Go to the vfsglobal website , which is the official place to apply for your visa. You need to create an Immi Account to be able to submit your visa application online.

Make sure you read all the information related to your visa carefully and follow the instructions. Check the Australia visa type for Indians and the list of documents required for your type of visa – Visitor visa (subclass 600).

IMG-Guide to Australian Tourist Visa For Indians

Make sure you attach each and every document required to support any query that the embassy might have about you. You should not leave room for any kind of doubt or question about your profile. They want to be sure that you will exit Australia on time and return to India. So, your cover letter and documents should indicate that clearly.

The documents you need to attach with your Australia visa application:

  • Your passport. It should be valid for the next 6 months.
  • At least one of your national identity documents, such as Adhar Card, Pan Card or Driver’s License.
  • Bank statements for the last 6 months: Your bank statements should reflect consistent funds in your account. Start putting large sums of money in your account at least 3 months in advance when you have decided to travel to Australia. The amount should not pop up suddenly just when you are applying for the visa. The embassy wants to know how self-sufficient you are, financially.

So, if you think your account doesn’t have hefty funds, ask your spouse, sibling or a friend to transfer funds in your account, which you can return after your application is processed.

  • Attach your income tax returns if applicable.
  • Employment letter with company’s letterhead: If you have a job, you need to include your employment letter showing that you have a permanent job in India, and you are not going to Australia to search for one.
  • Pay slips for the last 6 months.
  • Leave approval letter: Attach your leave approval letter signed by your boss, the highest authority.
  • Bank statements for the last 6 months of the other people who are supporting you in your travel, such as your spouse (attach their pay slips as well) or your parents if you are single.
  • If you own a property in India, attach legal papers of that as well.
  • If someone is sponsoring your stay in Australia, attach an invitation letter from them, along with their employment letter, pay slips and bank statements.
  • If you are invited by your friends or family who have obtained a permanent residence of Australia, attach a copy of that as well.
  • Attach any document that shows you need to return to India after your Australia trip: it could be a wedding invitation, tickets for an upcoming domestic trip, etc.
  • Attach copies of your previous visa grant letters and stamps on your passport. It’s absolutely fine if it’s your first international trip and you don’t have any previous travel proofs to show. It’s just an additional document that makes your application stronger.

The documents I attached as a freelancer:

  • Details about my profile and the nature of my work in the cover letter.
  • Copies of previous visa stamping pages on my passport that show my adherence to timely exit from all countries that I had visited.
  • My media kit.
  • My business card.

The idea is to attach everything you have for your support.

Write a detailed cover letter to support your application

Now comes the most important part – the cover letter. The way you craft your cover letter is going to play a big role in the processing of your visa. Make sure you mention everything clearly and truthfully in your cover letter – the purpose and duration of your trip, your detailed travel itinerary, your employment details, your financial details, and the reason why you need to return to India after your vacation in Australia is over.

If you are visiting Australia to attend a family event, such as a wedding, baby shower or a birthday, mention about it along with the documents to support it. Mention all the details about the person who’s hosting or sponsoring you in Australia. Make sure whatever you write in your cover letter has a document to support it.

Besides, you should paint a picture of your professional and personal commitments in India – your spouse, family, home, work, etc.

Here’s my cover letter that I wrote when I applied for my Australian visa –

IMG-Cover letter sample for Australia Visa

Be truthful about your application.

You are more likely of getting your visa rejected if you make any false statements on your application or produce any fake documents. Make sure all your documents are true and valid. Don’t concoct stories. Be confident about your application. If you have not given the embassy any chance of doubt, your visa will arrive!

The embassy wants to be sure that they grant visa to genuine people who want to visit their country for no other purpose but tourism. If you have other motives behind your visit, please choose appropriate visa type for the same.

Should you book your air tickets and hotel before you apply for your visa?

NO. Australian embassy discourages you to make any bookings till the time your visa application is processed. There’s no requirement to show any proof of any sort of booking – air tickets or accommodation. You can mention your tentative travel dates on the application and complete it.

Yes, a lot of countries do ask you to attach all your booking documents along with your application, but not Australia. So, get going with your bookings only after your visa has arrived.

IMG-Australia Tourist visa from India

First and foremost, consider the time you choose to travel to Australia . There are specific seasons when your visa applications take longer than usual to get processed. Like in my case, I chose to travel to Australia in June, which is one of the peak travel times for most people. Thus, my visa got delayed.

The good idea is to plan ahead, at least 2 months in advance. When you have time in your hand, you can plan your trip better, browse for affordable air tickets and get the best deal out of everything.

Also, make sure that you have filled your visa application thoroughly without any error, and all your documents are in place. The embassy doesn’t have time to attend to an incomplete application. They are most likely to keep your application aside and process the ones that came after yours. Why would you let that happen?

IMG-How to prepare for your Australian Tourist Visa

Should you visit Australia right now?

Hell yes! One of the ways you can help Australia recover from its ‘bushfire’ crisis is by traveling to its unaffected destinations. Yes, not all destinations are under the impact of bushfire. Visit Australia Tourism’s official website to find out the list of destinations, which are safe to travel.

Australia is a huge country with so much to offer. However, it’s always advisable to read travel restrictions/news before you plan an international travel.

Note: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, visa applications are suspended temporarily. Kindly check for updates on VFS GLobal for latest travel advisory .

Cover Letter for an Australia Visa

Cover Letter Australia Visa

Australia is an enticing place to visit, with its rugged outback and its sophisticated cities. Thinking of heading Down Under? You’ll need a travel authorisation to get there.

Many countries are eligible for what’s called an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The application process for an ETA is simpler, requiring less paperwork. For those nationalities not eligible for an ETA, you’ll need to submit a normal visa application. You can check which authorisation you’re eligible for on our page about the Australian ETA .

For those who need a regular visa, if you’re planning to visit family or friends, as part of your application you should include a letter from the relative or friend who’s inviting you to visit. This helps prove you’re a “genuine visitor” – that you’re only going to be there for a short stay.

Are you about to ask a friend or relative to write the letter for you? Or are you already in Australia and planning to write a letter for someone coming to visit you? Here we explain everything you need to know about how to write a support letter for a tourist visa to Australia.

What Information Should the Support Letter for a Visa for Australia Have?

You’ll need to make sure the letter includes all of the following information.

First, the person writing the letter should include their own:

  • Date of birth.
  • Address and telephone number in Australia.
  • Occupation in Australia.
  • Their residency status in Australia, whether they’re a citizen, resident, visa holder, or student.
  • The letter writer must include supporting documents demonstrating his or her residency status, living arrangements, and proof of income or funds.

The information about the person being invited should include:

  • The visitor’s full name.
  • The visitor’s address and telephone number.
  • The relationship between the inviting person and the visitor. This could be as simple as stating they’re your friend, parent, brother, sister, uncle or whatever applies.
  • The purpose of the trip (vacation, business visitor, seminar, event).
  • How long the visitor plans to stay in Australia and the date they plan to leave.
  • Details of where the visitor will be staying. Are they staying at your home or a hotel?

What’s the Format for an Invitation Letter for an Australian Tourist Visa?

You can format the letter in a standard letter style. It should have your name and address at the top, include a formal greeting, and have your signature at the end.

It needs to be written in English or translated by a translator who is accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.

As far as who needs to write the invitation letter for an Australia tourist visa, it should be a relative or friend of yours who is a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or be in possession of a valid visa.

Does My Visa Request Letter Go to the Australian Embassy?

Your letter technically gets uploaded to the Australia immigration department’s portal in your online application as an attachment. It doesn’t need to be mailed, unless you decide to mail all of your paperwork in to the embassy.

What Does ‘Give Details of the Development of the Relationship Between the Applicant and the Sponsor’ Mean?

This is something you’ll see if you are applying for a Partner Visitor Visa. In this case, one member of the couple is already residing in Australia and wants to bring his or her romantic partner for a visit.

You’ll need to include a detailed description of your relationship in the visa application. To give the correct type of information that the case officer is looking for, you should include:

  • When, where and how the two of you met.
  • How the relationship developed after meeting each other.
  • When the two of you decided to either get married or start a romantic relationship.
  • A description of your domestic arrangements, including financial and emotional support, paying bills, and whether you live together or not.
  • The plans the two of you have as a couple for the future.

Dates are important, as are words describing emotions and feelings.

What’s an Employment Letter for a Visa in Australia?

One helpful letter you can include is a verification from your employer. This helps to prove that you have fixed employment to return to, and that you won’t be staying indefinitely in Australia.

The letter should state the employer name, your name, your position, and the dates you’ll be away from work, as well as when you’re expected to return.

What’s the Statutory Declaration for Visitor Visa Sponsorship?

If your family member or friend is financially sponsoring your visit, your letter will look the same as the invitation letter. The only difference will be that it needs to include what’s called a Statutory Declaration, which is simply a statement explaining how the inviting person will be supporting you.

Are they paying for your flight or your accommodation? Will they be funding all of your stay? With this letter you’ll need to include evidence of their ability to support you, such as a bank statement or tax document.
