Google has become invaluable to students and teachers, especially with remote learning becoming a necessity all around the world. Despite some of their shortcomings , the company's tools are generally incredibly helpful, and now, Google has highlighted  a few more education-focused features in its core product Search.

Google has added over 2000 STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts to its results, giving you easy and fast access to educational overviews of topics such as " chemical bonds ." The overview provides details on types, examples, practice problems, worksheets, and calculators. The STEM resources and the practice problems have been available on desktops for a while following a smaller redesign , but it looks like Google is only making them more widely available in the US now. Google has also re-introduced its AR 3D models of chemistry, biology, physics, and anatomy concepts, which have been available on phones for a while now . And if you're stuck on math problems during homework, you can ask Google Lens for help.

For the next few weeks, Google has another neat new option planned. It wants to help with complicated STEM questions such as " 0.50 moles of NaCI are dissolved in 2.5 L of water, what is the molarity? " You'll be able to punch questions like this into Google Search, which will help you with detailed explanations and provide you with similar questions for practice.

While the announcement doesn't bring too many new things to the table, it's great to see Google reiterating its focus on education. That's right in line with recent adjustments to the parental supervision tool Family Link and child accounts.

Starting a Google Slides assignment: If your teacher asks you to use Slides to create a presentation, you can open the app by clicking “Add or create” on the right side of the assignment page in Google Classroom. Choose “Slides” from the drop-down menu to open the Slides app and create a new slideshow. Add your title in the middle and click the plus sign at the top left to add more slides. (Tip: If you click the little arrow next to the plus sign, you can choose from several predesigned slide layouts, called templates.)

Building out your presentation: Creating a full slide presentation is easy. You’ll just type in the information you need on each slide and use the Insert menu to add multimedia elements like pictures and videos. Click “Background” to change the color of your slide or set a background image. To change the font, use the drop-down menu at the top, then click the plus or minus icon to make the text larger or smaller.

Organizing your presentation: If you need to reorder your slides, drag them up or down on the list. To add transitions, click Transition in the top toolbar and choose an effect from the drop-down menu. Click “Apply to all slides,” and then click Present to see a preview. When it’s time to present your slideshow to the class, click Present at the top right and select “Present from beginning.”

Student tips for Google Docs

Google Docs is a cloud-based word processing program that allows you to collaborate with your classmates and teachers in real time.

Getting started with Google Docs: You can access Docs from within Classroom by using the “Add or create” menu on an assignment page. This will open a new document. Use the menus at the top of the page to change the font or font size, and check out some of the other formatting tools such as the Insert Image button, which lets you add a picture to your document. Use the Bulleted List button to create a bulleted list, or the button next to it to make a numbered list.

Checking spelling and grammar: Google Docs will automatically give you spelling and grammar suggestions by underlining words in blue or red. Click on the underlined word to see the suggestion and decide whether to accept or reject it.

Getting a word count and using voice typing: To see how much you’ve written, go to the Tools menu and click Word Count. You can also dictate rather than typing. Just choose “Voice typing” from the Tools menu, click the microphone and start talking.

Commenting on a classmate’s work: If you’re reviewing a classmate’s work, click the speech bubble to add a comment. Using the @ or address sign, you can tag a classmate or teacher in your comment to make sure they get a notification.

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

• Best for: Practicing tough material 

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace. 

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads. 

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

• Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
• Best for: 24/7 homework assistance  

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.  

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school. 

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects. 

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

• Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services) 
• Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them. 

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers. 

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

• Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want 
• Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help 

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help. 

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter! 

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!  

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

• Best for: Science homework help
• Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well. 

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded. 

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.  

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly. 

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below. 

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites 

First, let’s take a look at the benefits. 

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays. 

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college. 

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school. 

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites 

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help. 

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option. 

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming 

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up. 

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service! 

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. 

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned. 

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating. 

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later. 

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website. 

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best 

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most. 

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need 

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

While studying can differ for different age groups, many of the things that get in the way are the same. Whether it's your environment or time management skills, it easy for things to discourage you from finishing your homework. With a little organization and help, your homework can become approachable.

Managing Your Time

• For instance, try setting aside a time you know you can work well such as an hour or 2 before dinner, or if you're a night owl, after dinner.

• Work in hour blocks, with 50 minutes spent studying and 10 minutes spent taking a break.
• It can also be helpful to move around when you are taking your break, especially if you are working at a screen. Go for a walk outside to get your blood circulating and enjoy some fresh air.
• You might also want to eat a healthy snack on your break to improve your focus. Avoid junk food and choose something like a handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, veggies, or a small portion of cottage cheese.

• Identify which assignments are worth the most points for each class. Most likely these will take the longest to complete. [5] X Research source
• Consider how long you have to do each project, and if possible, see when the assignment is introduced. Oftentimes, primary and secondary school classes do not have syllabi, so it might be harder to plan out an entire term, but if you are in college, you will most likely have a syllabus with at least a partial course schedule. Knowing how long you have to complete an assignment will help you prioritize which assignments to do first. You can also ask the teacher how long you have to complete an assignment. • Use highlighters or stickers to mark which assignments are most important.
• If you're using an online or mobile schedule, create alerts or notifications for the projects and any time-sensitive steps for those projects.

• Don't let a big project overshadow the smaller assignments you need to complete!

• Assignment outlines can help you visualize the necessary tasks to get the assignment done.

Creating a Productive Work Environment

• A desk or table would be a better location than a couch or a bed.

• Turn your phone off or on silent (not vibrate). It might be best to put the phone out of sight, or in another room while you work, as the temptation to text or get on social media can be as much of a distraction as actually using social media.
• Use an app that blocks social media. There are plenty of applications out there that can help block social media and other distracting sites (such as shopping or gaming sites). • Use a white noise app to block out noise.
• Use earplugs or noise-blocking earmuffs. [12] X Research source
• Work in a quiet place, such as a library or a home office, if you have one.
• Avoid listening to music while studying. Studies have shown that although listening to music while studying lowers overall performance, this does not affect everyone equally. Using Your Resources

• If you're too afraid to ask a teacher during class, see if you can stay behind to ask your questions.

• First, contact your school to see if there are any after-school tutoring programs. While not all primary and secondary schools offer tutoring, a vast majority of universities do. If your school does not offer tutoring, they may know of other resources for you to contact.
• Then, contact your library to see if they offer any tutoring. [18] X Research source
• In some areas, there may also be free community tutoring programs. Contact your local community center for more information.
• There are plenty of private tutors out there as well, but they can be costly (ranging from $20 to $100 an hour). [19] X Research source You can find tutors online through a number of websites, such as Craigslist or Angie's list.

• If you need to work at a library after school, ask your parents or search the web to find your local library.

How to Use Google Calendar as Your Homework Planner – Part 1

In this post, you will learn how to set up and share a Google calendar for the purpose of keeping track of homework or assignments. See Part 2 of this post to see how to set up the homework entries and reminders.

Kids lose their agenda books. They leave them in their lockers, on buses, in desks. Sometimes they just vanish without a trace. And they take with them any clue the kid had about what to do for homework.

And then there are the kids that a paper planner just doesn’t work for. Their handwriting doesn’t fit in the boxes, or they keep putting things on the wrong page, and then they are gone forever! Or they write a project or due date down, and don’t check the agenda book when it’s time to do the work.

Turning Google Calendar into an assistive technology to help these kids is simple and helps them to build technology skills that will support them for life. I think this starts to be effective around sixth grade, if there are devices available regularly through the day, or if the child carries a smartphone.

First the child needs a Google account. Log in and choose Google Calendar from the menu of Google tools:

You will see a blank Google calendar, if you’ve never used it before.

I recommend creating a dedicated Google calendar, called “Beth’s Homework” or something similar to keep all the homework in one place. This is a good practice because hopefully the student will use the calendar to keep track of appointments, sports practices, and important dates down the road, and this keeps all that information from becoming smushed together and overwhelming.

• Name the calendar. Mine is “Beth’s Homework.”
• Share it with others. Type an email address, and choose from the dropdown whether others can view only or edit (including adding and deleting) events.
• Click “Create Calendar” at the bottom of the screen.

A quick and easy way to access Google in your web browsers is to make Google your homepage. You can do this in browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, and we'll show you how.

Your browser has a box that you can fill in with any site's URL to make it your homepage . You can set any region-specific Google site (like Google UK ) as the homepage if you prefer.

In Chrome, you can make Google your homepage so that it opens when you click the home icon, which is beside the address bar. You can also make Google launch when you open the Chrome browser . We'll show you how to do both of these below.

Set Google As Your Homepage

To make the home button launch Google, then in Chrome's top-right corner, click the three dots.

From the three-dots menu, select "Settings."

In "Settings," from the left sidebar, select "Appearance."

You will see an "Appearance" section on the right. Here, enable "Show Home Button" if it is not already enabled.

Click the "Show Home Button" option to expand the section. Then, beneath the "New Tab Page" option, click the text field and type the following URL. Then press Enter.

https://www.google.com

And Google is now the homepage in Chrome on your computer. To try it, click the home icon beside the address bar, and Google will open.

Make Chrome Launch Google on Startup

To make it so Chrome opens Google when you launch the browser, add Google to Chrome's startup section.

To do so, in Chrome's top-right corner, click the three dots and choose "Settings."

In "Settings," from the left sidebar, select "On Startup."

An "On Startup" section will appear on the right. Here, enable "Open a Specific Page or Set of Pages."

In the menu that expands, click "Add a New Page."

Chrome will open a small "Add a New Page" window. In this window, click the "Site URL" field and type the following URL. Then click "Add."

You're set. From now on, when you launch Chrome , it will automatically launch the Google site.

You can only set a homepage in Chrome on Android. There's no option to do that in Chrome's iPhone and iPad versions.

To set the homepage, first, open Chrome on your Android phone.

In Chrome's top-right corner, tap the three dots.

Scroll the "Settings" page to the "Advanced" section. Here, tap "Homepage."

On the "Homepage" screen, turn on the toggle at the top. Then tap the "Enter Custom Web Address" field and type the following:

And that's it. When you tap the home icon in Chrome, it will load the Google site.

To set Google as your homepage in Firefox, first, open Firefox on your computer .

At the top-right corner of Firefox, click the three horizontal lines.

In the menu that opens, click "Settings."

In "Settings," from the left sidebar, select "Home."

A "Home" page will open. Here, in the "New Windows and Tabs" section, click the "Homepage and New Windows" drop-down menu and select "Custom URLs."

In the "Paste a URL" field, type the following and press Enter.

Firefox has now made Google the homepage. When you open a new Firefox window, it will automatically load the Google site.

In Firefox's Android version, there's no way to set a homepage. Instead, you can add Google to the top sites list that appears on the first page of Firefox. On an iPhone and iPad, you can set a proper homepage in Firefox.

Set the Homepage on Android

Launch Firefox on your phone. Tap the address bar at the top, type the following, and hit Enter:

When the Google site loads, in Firefox's top-right corner, tap the three dots.

In the three-dots menu, tap "Add to Top Sites."

Google is now pinned to the site list on Firefox's default page. Tap it to quickly access the site.

Set the Homepage on iPhone and iPad

Open Firefox on your iPhone or iPad. At the lower-right corner, tap the three horizontal lines.

In the menu that opens, tap "Settings."

On the "Settings" page, select "Home."

On the "Home" screen, in the "Show" section, tap "Custom URL" and type the following. Then press Enter:

Google is now the homepage in Firefox.

In Microsoft Edge, you can make the home button launch Google, and you can also make Google automatically launch when you open Edge . Let us show you how to do both.

Make Google Open When You Click Home

To make the home button launch Google in Edge, first, open Edge on your computer.

In Edge's top-right corner, click the three dots.

On the "Settings" window, in the left sidebar, click "Appearance."

Scroll down the "Appearance" page to the "Select Which Buttons to Show On the Toolbar" section. In this section, turn on the "Home Button" option. Then, beside the toggle, click "Set Button URL."

You will now specify what site the home button should take you to. In the "Home Button" section that opens, click the "Enter URL" field and type the following URL. Then click "Save."

And you have successfully set Google as the homepage in Edge on your computer. Click the home button beside the address bar each time you want to visit Google.

Open Google When You Launch Edge

To have Edge open Google when you launch the browser, set Google as the startup page in Edge. To do so, first, open Edge on your computer.

In Edge's top-right corner, click the three dots and choose "Settings."

On the "Settings" page, in the left sidebar, click "Start, Home, and New Tabs."

In the "When Edge Starts" section on the right, select the "Open These Pages" option.

Next to "Pages," click "Add a New Page."

You will now tell Edge what site to launch when you open the browser. On the "Add a New Page" window, click the "Enter a URL" field and type the following URL. Then select "Add."

You're all done. Google is now the startup page in Edge, and it will automatically launch when you open the browser.

To set or change Edge's homepage on iPhone, iPad, or Android, first, open Edge on your phone.

At the bottom of Edge, tap the three dots.

From the menu that pops up, select "Settings."

In "Settings," tap "General."

At the bottom of the "General" page, from the "Home Page" section, choose "A Specific Page."

A "Set Home Page" box will open. In this box, tap the text field and type the following. Then tap "Save."

Unfortunately, Safari for iPhone and iPad doesn't have a precise "homepage" feature. It will open the last webpage you had open, or to the Start Page. However, you can customize the Start Page  to include a link to Google, change your default search engine  to Google, or add a link to Google to your Home Screen and use it any time you want to launch Safari.

If you're on a Mac, though, you can make Google your home page by first clicking Safari > Preferences, or use the keyboard shortcut Command+, (comma). Then click "General."

In the "Homepage" field, enter the following:

You also may want to make sure "New Windows Open With" and "New Tabs Open With" are set to "Homepage."

The Best Google Docs Keyboard Shortcuts for Boosting Your Productivity

Knowing your way around some keyboard shortcuts —whether for Windows, macOS, or individual programs—is perhaps one of the best time-saving productivity hacks there is. You don't have to reach for the mouse or trackpad to navigate to a new place on the screen, and you don't have to hunt through menus to find options for formatting images and text: Just press the right key combination and you're done.

There aren't many places where keyboard shortcuts are as useful as they are in Google Docs. When you're head-down in a document, these quick key presses can save you a serious amount of time, added up over the course of a day—and it means your brain stays in its creative groove.

These are the most important Google Docs keyboard shortcuts you need to know about, with variations for Windows and macOS. (The macOS shortcut is usually the same as the Windows one, with the Cmd button replacing Ctrl. ) To bring up a full list of keyboard shortcuts while you're in Google Docs, hold down Ctrl or Cmd and press / (the forward slash).

Hold down Ctrl+Shift+Alt (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Option (macOS), and you can then tap Z to switch to editing, X to switch to suggesting, and C to switch to viewing in the doc.

Use Ctrl+Shift+V or Cmd+Shift+V to paste whatever text is on your clipboard, but without any of its original formatting attached—so you don't suddenly find your document layout ruined.

When you already have some text selected, keep Shift held down and you can extend your text selection by a character at a time with the Left arrow and Right arrow . Hold down Ctrl or Cmd as well, and you go a word at a time.

Highlight any text and press Ctrl+K or Cmd+K to add a link to the text. The same shortcut works for editing links. Hover over a link with the cursor to find the delete link option.

Press Ctrl+Shift+C or Cmd+Shift+C to bring up the total word count, page count, and character count. Check the box on the dialog to have these permanently displayed.

Keep Ctrl+Shift or Cmd+Shift held down on the keyboard, and you can then create a numbered list by tapping 7 , a bulleted list by tapping 8 , and a checklist by tapping 9 .

There are a few keyboard shortcuts you can use when a comment is selected: R to reply to it, J and K to move up and down through comments, E to resolve a comment, and U to exit a comment.

Google Docs has a handy tool finder that you can use to search through all of the options on the menus and in the toolbars: Hold Alt or Option then tap / (forward slash) to show it.

You probably already know that Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z can undo your last action and correct mistakes. But you can also keep tapping the shortcut to go further back, and even undo everything from the current session if needed.

Here's one that comes in handy in a variety of situations: Press Ctrl+Y or Cmd+Y to repeat the same action again, whether it's inserting a particular character or deleting a sentence.

You can bring up the find and replace dialog by pressing Ctrl+H or Cmd+Shift+H . If you just want to find something (without replacing it), then it's Ctrl+F or Cmd+F instead.

You're able to manipulate images with keyboard shortcuts too. Select an image, hold down Ctrl+Alt or Cmd+Ctrl , then tap K to make an image larger or J to make it smaller.

With text highlighted, hold down Ctrl or Cmd , then tap B for bold, I for italics, U for underline, Shift+X for strikethrough, . (period) for superscript, or , (comma) for subscript.

If you want to apply a set heading style to text in your document, hold down Ctrl+Alt or Cmd+Option , then tap a number (from 1 to 6 ) to apply that particular heading style.

Sometimes you can get your words down more quickly if you're dictating them. Press Ctrl+Shift+S or Cmd+Shift+S and the voice typing dialog should pop up onscreen. Your browser should prompt you to give Google Docs permission to use your microphone; grant that permission and you can start dictating.

You don't need to navigate around the menus to drop a page break into an open document— Ctrl+Enter or Cmd+Enter will insert one at the cursor’s current position.

Your number and all of your service is connected to your provider through something called a SIM card. Depending on the age and make of your phone you may have a physical SIM card. If you do, you can order a new one and replace the one in your phone once you receive the new one. Many newer phones have done away with physical cards and replaced them with eSIMs. For example, iPhones have been doing this since the iPhone 14 . In this case, you will need to go through your service provider.

Each service provider has their own process for contacting them about changing your number. We have outlined the process of some of the most popular providers. It is important to know your voicemails may not be able to be transferred to your new number, so make sure to get them saved before switching.

Changing Your AT&T Number

To get your number changed at AT&T there is a $36 fee unless you've activated your service within the last 30 days. You can change your number online by logging into your account. Once you're logged in select Manage wireless to select your phone. Within the menu for your phone, you'll need to open the My wireless device options menu to get to Change my number . If you would like someone to do it for you, you can always contact AT&T customer service and have them change it for you.

Changing Your Google Fi Number

Before you can begin a number change with Google Fi, you will need to make sure your account doesn't have any balance but there aren't any fees for your number change at any time. Once you're all paid up, you can reach out to the Google Fi Wireless Help team online and ask to change your number. It's worth keeping in mind that your old number will be given to someone else in this case and you aren't guaranteed to get your same area code.

Changing Your Mint Mobile Number

With Mint Mobile, you will need to reach out to their help center to change your number. You can either chat with them online or call 800-683-7392 between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. PT. When calling you will want to select the technical issue option followed by help with service. An eSIM can be used for $15 per month more in place of the physical SIM and a new number can be activated with this as long as your phone is compatible. Otherwise, there are no fees to change your number.

Changing Your TextNow Number

If you're a TextNow customer, changing your number is very easy. All you have to do is open the TextNow app and go into Settings . Under Account you will find TextNow Number where you select the three dots on the top right and Release Number . They have a video on YouTube outlining their process. Be sure you're ready to change your number as you cannot get your old one back.

Changing Your T-Mobile Number

Although it isn't free all the time, T-Mobile does allow customers to change their number once per year for free. After the first change, it is $15 per change. Your old number will be held anywhere between 45 and 90 days, then will be released for a new user. To get the number switched with this service provider, you have to call the General Customer Care & Technical Support line at 1-800-937-8997 from a different phone so they can switch your number over while you're on the line.

Changing Your Verizon Number

Verizon has made changing your phone number easy through their My Verizon app that comes on all of their devices. You will have to be the account owner or manager to complete the change. Once you're logged into the app, select the phone you want to change the number on and select to either get a completely new number or transfer an old one. You will enter your ZIP code or city and state and a drop-down will allow you to select the first six digits of your number and an effective date. After making your selections, you will be able to choose the last four digits as well and submit. Then it will be your new number on the effective date you selected.

No matter what company you have as a service provider iPhone users will want to make sure to sync their Apple ID to the new number. If looking at changing your number doesn't seem like enough, you could always change your service provider or get a new phone instead.

How to strikethrough in Google Docs

A strikethrough is as it sounds – a digital slash through your text. It can be useful for task lists or adding edits to papers. Here’s what a strikethrough looks like. 

You only need to make a few clicks to access this feature on Google Docs:

• Highlight the text you want to cross out
• Select “Format” from the top menu
• Choose the first item on the dropdown menu: “Text”
• Select “Strikethrough”

Another, hassle-free approach to strikethrough is to find it by searching in the “Help” option in the top left-hand menu. Highlight your text first, and then you should only have to type a few letters of the word “strikethrough” before the option comes up.

What is the shortcut for strikethrough in Google Docs?

You can also use a keyboard shortcut to strike your text. To do this, highlight the text you want to cross out and simultaneously press Alt+Shift+5 on your keyboard.

To undo a strikethrough, hit the same combination of keys again or “undo” the action.

How to insert a checkbox in Google Docs

If you want the satisfying press of a checkbox for your to-do list, try the checklist function in Google Docs. Checklist operates similarly to a bullet-pointed list but allows you to check and cross off the items.

To insert a checkbox list, select the “Checklist” option on the second toolbar menu. You’ll find this function nestled between the “Line & paragraph spacing” and traditional bullet point options. There’s also a dropdown menu that allows you to choose how you check off an item – with a checkmark and a strikethrough or just a checkmark.

To insert a checkbox with a keyboard shortcut, press Ctrl+Shift+9.
