How to make a holiday scrapbook with children.

A couple of years ago we took our son out of school to have a fun trip in America, visiting New York, Naples, and Florida.

At the time he was only 6 years old, so we spoke to the school who didn’t fine us but asked if he could compile a scrapbook while he was there.

This was before we decided to homeschool but this is a tradition we have continued.

I was all up for the idea as it would be a great memory for him, and in fact, he made one recently of our time in Jamaica.

More importantly, he was excited about doing it as well, so a result.

On our trip, we, of course, took a lot of photos, but we made sure our son collected as much as he could while we were there.

Pretty much anything he had over the space of the holiday we collected.

  • Boarding Cards
  • Luggage Label
  • Activity Books from restaurants – check out our free printable Christmas placemats .
  • Entrance Tickets
  • Subway tickets
  • Money (of course just loose change!!)
  • Theatre Tickets
  • Scorecards (when we played crazy golf!)
  • Handbooks (Wilderness Explorer handbook from Animal Kingdom)
  • Epcot Passport (see which are the best Disney parks for 6 year old )
  • Pictures he had drawn

How to make a holiday scrapbook with kids - 13 fun ideas

Scrapbooking with kids

My top tip is to make your scrapbook as soon as you can after your holiday, so it is still very fresh in their memory.

Craft Supplies Needed

  • Scrapbook (we have used this one, or a photo album will work!)
  • Photo paper
  • Holiday scrapbook stickers
  • Scrapbook paper

FaCraft Summer Party Scrapbook Stickers,50pcs Summer Scrapbooking Sticker

Choose the photos you want to include with your child and put them in order. We did it in day order as we traveled quite a lot. We have a printer at home so it was easy, but you can very cheaply get these printed.

Collect all of the things you collected on your trip and put them in the order with the photos.

For every day of your trip ask your child to write a couple of sentences about what they did. I tried not to help too much, which is why some of the words are written phonetically rather than spelled correctly. But I was super proud of him.

a map in a holiday scrapbook

Make sure you lay everything in the pages of the scrapbook before you actually start gluing just to make sure you utilize the book properly.

We put all of the maps at the end of the scrapbook as we had collected so many, maps of the Disney resorts, Universal Studios, and New York.

Whilst we didn’t have access to a die-cutting machine, you can also easily create your own custom-themed stickers and shapes with the help of a manual scrapbook die-cutting machine . I’m sure your child will enjoy cranking the handle to cut out some fun designs.

Then the best part, sticking!!!! All we used was either sticky tape or a glue stick so was super easy for our son to use.

Holiday Scrapbook with hotel keys, photos, and handwritten note

This scrapbook was made 4 years ago, and he is still so proud of it. It regularly comes out and he loves showing family and friends.

Due to him making this scrapbook he now actually remembers the holiday really well as he looks through the scrapbook all the time. I have to say it was probably the best craft / educational thing we have ever done with him.

Do you have any scrapbooking ideas? If so I would love to hear your top tips.

Such a great thing to do. We did this with our kids who are a bit older now and they LOVE going back through them. I really like the maps, hadn’t thought of that.

We did a scrapbook last summer holidays and it was a great way to get my daughter to write and also keep for the memories. We will be doing the same this year.

I always used to do this for our big family holidays, and I can still remember them all so well, it’s such a great way to cement those memories. And I still look at those scrapbooks now! I’ve not done this yet with my son, but I think this year he will be old enough to and I think he’ll love it – he loves looking through old photos and his memory box.

It is so nice for them to make and collect all the things while on holiday as well. It certainly has made us remember the holiday much more, and we will do it for every big holiday we have 🙂

I recall doing this with my mum and look forward to doing kit with the kids too.

Its a really lovely thing to do and look back on 🙂 x

Oh this is such a lovely way to capture the memories of a special holiday. I’m sure you’ll always look back on it fondly together.

I know its so special for us, we look at it all the time. x

This is absolutely lovely! We love to collect bits from our adventures and holidays but haven’t yet compiled them into a scrapbook. Now that the kids are 6 I know this would be an activity they would thoroughly enjoy! x

I encourage N to do a scrapbook over the summer holidays. He quite likes doing it although hates writing. It’s just a faff printing out photos because our home printer doesn’t work.

Love this, reminds me of the school holidays when I was little. We always used to make scrapbooks over the summer

It is something I had never done previously, it was the school that suggested it, and I am so glad they did. Freddie absolutely loved making it and still looks through them now x

That is a fantastic thing to do and really good of the school to allow you to do that. Great memories to share.

I love this idea! We also does scrap book with Ethan too, but we keep stopping and starting, and then we forgets about it now. I think we need to start ours again. Thank you for your inspirations. xx

I think scrapbooking is a great way to get the family together, as well as wonderful for curating all the lovely memories made – not to mention, most kids love the creative element too!

Yes I couldn’t agree more, Freddie is so proud of what he achieved and is such a great memory for him.

"Holiday Parade" by Paije Potter - Pattern #356

Pinwheel patterns evoke a sense of whimsy and fun, so they are ideal for holiday layouts.

This one includes festive snowflakes to bring in the holiday cheer. The white rectangles can be left as is, but they can also be used as journaling blocks if a lot of descriptions were needed for the layout.

When you have fun decor, take the time to photograph it and maybe even journal about it so you, and those who come after you, will enjoy those decorations, as well.

Experiment with some decorative die cuts. They may work to hold journaling or a title, like Paije did here, as well as photos or pattern paper.

It adds a bit of festive flair to the layout.

The main photo on this layout got an additional wide mat made from striped paper.

To showcase more of the paper, play around with various sizes of Basic Nested Dies and the Layering Die Bundle . They all work together and can be mixed up however you wish. The only rule is that the bottom layer has to fit the grid paper.

"Santa" by Candy Spiegel - Pattern #404

The stack of packages in the bottom corner of this layout is from the Stocking Suffers Set .

You can make the die cuts as simple or as intricate as you choose. For this one, Candy cut the die twice out of leftover paper and pieced it together on top of a white square.

But, you could cut the die just once and layer it over the white square leaving just the outline. Or, you could make each package a different pattern. It's all up to you.

Using different patterns and different colors of papers as photo mats increases interest -- especially on a whimsical layout like this one.

Remember, not every photo needs a mat. And it is okay to mat some and not others, like Paije did, here.

Image

"Christmas Town Fun" by Paije Potter - Pattern #318

Adding that "wow" factor is not difficult. Here, Paije created an amazing layout using a simply die, the Arabesque .

She used the die to frame her photos, but she also used a few close-up pictures of the tree to fill in around the shapes.

The thin outline of the die is just enough separation between the two pictures. And the result is amazing.

Creating a row of repeating elements is a fun way to add interest to a layout.

Here, Paije used the Half Circle Set and pattern paper to make a fun ribbon right across the page.

"Children's Museum" by Jodi Benson - Pattern #429

When there are a lot of elements, or you have busy photos, keeping things simple is the way to go. There are no photo mats and little pattern paper on this layout, but it still sings.

Notice the photos in the four corners? That's one photo, flopped and printed four times. It is a great way to frame up a layout or fill in when you do not have enough photos.

How to make

Create a base layer on the double page spread using pieces of paper from the Travel Designed A4 Paper Pad. Trim two pieces of the striped paper to 1” wide, and one piece of the multi-icon paper to 3.5” wide. Use two whole sheets of the light blue paper.

Adhere the multi-icon paper to the right-hand side of the spread, leaving an even amount of the kraft page showing at the top, bottom, and right side. Attach the striped piece to the underside of the light blue A4 paper leaving 0.5” showing.

Repeat with the second paper, make sure they are the right way up. Adhere these papers down on the kraft page as seen below.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step1a.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Using a score board, or a ruler and scoring tool, score and fold a 5.5” x 3.75” piece of vellum at 1.5” in from each side and 1” up from the bottom edge.

Cut out the corners to create the flaps, as seen in the photo. Punch a 2” circle from scrap card, and use this as a template to cut out a notch. Please note: Punches don’t always work too well on the vellum directly.

Add double-sided tape to the flaps and secure to create a pocket. Repeat for the second pocket, this time don’t cut out a notch.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step2a.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Add an eyelet tag to each of the vellum pockets with double-sided tape.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step3.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Using a black ink pad and the compass wooden stamp, stamp over the patterned paper background and the kraft section as well as the two tags.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step4.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Add the destination or title of your spread and the year of travel to the kraft section on the left-hand side of the double page spread with alphabet stickers, these are your gold foam stickers.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step5.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Now position and adhere the vellum pockets to the page. Add some layered embellishments to the title area.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step6.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Print your chosen photos and adhere them to the layout using flat adhesive, and raise some photos on foam pads for contrast.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step7a.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Trim a piece of lined paper from the Travel paper pad for your journaling strip.

Use a corner punch to round the corners. Adhere this to the right-hand side of the spread, tucking in the left edge under the striped paper strip.

Add a thinner journaling strip to the title section.

idea_holiday-scrapbook-layout_step8.jpg?sw=680&q=85

Now that you have your photos in place you can add more embellishments to finish off your scrapbook spread.

Add another cluster of embellishments to the bottom right of the spread as well (this spread has chipboard travel the world stickers, world stamp chipboard stickers, layered travel stickers and vintage map adhesive gems).

Relive unforgettable holiday memories in your beautiful scrapbook!

  • 10 Tips for Teachers: Creative Summer Holiday Homework

Imaginative activities and projects to pack your students' summer holidays with creativity

13 July 2022

Bonus: Homework for teachers. Take some time over the summer to look after your own wellbeing (although maybe wait until just before the new term starts!) with these Dreamachine Teacher Wellbeing CPD videos and creative activities .

1. Dreamachine Resources At Home Pack

Print off the entire pack or just one or two from this collection of activities from the Dreamachine Schools resources, specially picked out for families at home. They include science, global citizenship and wellbeing activities suitable for all ages, but will need adults to support the delivery as they are written in a lesson plan style. The activities include an interactive science survey into the senses: Life’s Big Questions – with videos to watch presented by Newsround’s Martin Dougan and fun illusions to try out.

2. British Science Week Activity Packs

For child-facing activities that are print off and go try this year’s British Science Week activity packs , which include a Dreamachine optical illusion challenge.

3. Summer Reading Challenge 2022

This year’s summer reading challenge is online and even if your school didn’t sign—up, children can still register to join in online and get books form the library: www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

You could print out this resource from StoryTrails and Unboxed Learning , with lots of ideas for storytelling.

4. The Poetry Society and Stemettes About Us Competition

About Us is all about exploring the many ways life across the universe is connected. Young people aged 4-18 can enter their poems and/ or Scratch projects on the theme of ‘connectivity and the universe‘, to win books and tech goodies, talent development opportunities, and free workshops for their school. All entrants will receive an e-certificate for participating and the competition closes on 31 August 2022. www.aboutus.earth/about-the-competition

5. Teaching for Creativity Taster Cards

Our Teaching for Creativity Taster Card activities are short and simple so could easily be facilitated by a parent or carer!

6. Keep an alternative journal

Document your summer break in a diary, but try to do it without writing a word! Create a scrapbook (or box!) of your summer, to remind you of what you did and how you felt. Try to include something for every week, but you can include as many entries as you like. How many different types of entries can you do? Some ideas are:

  • Draw or paint a picture of what you did
  • Draw the weather that day
  • Close your eyes and draw how you feel
  • Take a photo
  • Collect a memento e.g. a ticket, a receipt, a food packet, newspaper, a leaf, a stone
  • Draw a list of the music you listened to / books you read / games you played
  • Make a collage of something you are looking forward to
  • Make a picture of the tastiest food you ate – try using something unusual in a collage like pasta, lentils or cut up food packaging
  • Listen to the noises outside and draw what you think you can hear

7. Design a new invention

Invent something to solve the problem of ____________.

Draw your invention and label it or make a model of it and a short video explaining how it will work. Think about: How does it work? What size will it be if you made it for real? What material is it made of? Where does it get power or energy from to work? What will you call it?

Check out Little Inventors for inspiration: www.littleinventors.org/ideas

Insert a problem to solve that you think your students will know about / connects to your learning this year or look on www.littleinventors.org/mini-challenges/

Some ideas are: plastic food packaging, ocean pollution, keeping cool in the heatwave, keeping house plants alive, how to stay dry when camping, learning times tables, getting to school on time.

8. Put on an art exhibition

Visit Tate Kids and choose some of the activities to create your own artwork: www.tate.org.uk/kids/make

Once you have enough pieces, stage an art exhibition in your home or garden and invite families and friends. Think about how you want them to feel when they are in the exhibition. Do you want them to feel excited/calm/intrigued or think about issues you care about? How can you display your work to try and achieve this? Take photos and collect some quotes of how they found the experience!

9. Learn some origami

Learn to make something out of origami, the art of paper folding. Maths on Toast have some how-to-videos: www.mathsontoast.org.uk/activity-category/videos/

All you need is some squares of paper – even newspaper will do (an easy way to make a square of paper is to fold one corner over to the bottom edge and then cut along ).

10. Write a cultural review

Write a review of a film/book/computer game/album/podcast /play/day out/experience – anything cultural that interests you! How did it make you feel? What were the best bits? What could improve? What surprised you?

You could provide them with a quick list of family days out (preferably free and local) to spark ideas. If your students are London based, here is a list of some free goings on in the capital to get you started:

Greenwich + Docklands - International Festival 2022 (FREE) 26 August – 11 September / Festival - free theatre, art, dance and circus.

Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster: Alienarium 5 at Serpentine South Gallery (FREE) until 4 September / Art exhibition - a speculative environment that invites us to imagine possible encounters with extraterrestrials.

Covent Garden Cool Down – August Bank Holiday weekend / Experience - an annual ice cream festival on the streets of Covent Garden.

Take One Picture 2022 at the National Gallery (FREE) until 11 September / Art exhibition - primary schools from across the UK have responded creatively to 'The Finding of Moses' by Orazio Gentileschi.

Hew Locke: The Procession at Tate Britain (FREE) until January 2023 / Art exhibition – an installation of sculptures of people gathering and moving together to and ‘to celebrate, worship, protest, mourn, escape or even to better themselves’.

Kids Week – throughout August / Theatre - children 17 and under can go to theatre shows for free when accompanied by a full price paying adult.

Brent Biennial 2022: In The House Of My Love (FREE) until 11 September / Art exhibition - artists and community groups whose works explore the many meanings of homemaking.

Christmas Scrapbook Ideas & Layouts

Last Updated on September 15, 2023 by Ellen Christian

I’ve been working on some Christmas scrapbook ideas and a basic holiday scrapbook layout so I can deal with all the other photographs I have from when the kids were little.

If I thought I had a bunch of Halloween photographs, I have way more from Christmas. This project has made me understand more than ever why it’s so important to organize my photographs regularly.

The kids really enjoyed seeing their Halloween photos in a scrapbook so I know they’re going to enjoy seeing the holiday scrapbook layout I made.

I’m using the Project Life method to scrapbook my photos. Project life is quick and easy and doesn’t take tons of time or a lot of special skills.

I just don’t have the patience to create a scrapbook page from scratch and cut out all my embellishments. With Project Life, I can get card collections, stamp sets and accessory packs for just about any theme I like.

The photo pocket pages are divided into different sizes so I can just insert the photographs and add different sized cards and accessories to dress up the page.

You may remember that last month, I organized my Halloween photos of the kids .

Christmas Scrapbook Ideas | Holiday Scrapbook Layout

One of the problems that I have with coming up with Christmas scrapbook ideas is that most of my photos are a bunch of different sizes. Remember how you use to be able to get photos 3×5 and 4×6.

Don’t even get me started on school photographs and Polaroid photographs. With Project Life, I can add different background cards using accessory packs so that all my photos fit in the photo pocket pages.

Then I add some stickers or some letters or some sequins and I’ll all set.

Christmas Scrapbook Ideas | Holiday Scrapbook Layout

I love how easy Project Life is to use and that it doesn’t require any special crafting skills. I can start and stop when I’m making my scrapbook page depending on how much time I have and I can move things around if I change my mind about what I want it to look like.

holiday homework scrapbook ideas

This is the best time to capture every moment of your family time. Christmas is a fun season when you get to see all your relatives you haven’t seen in a long while.

Since Christmas is a great bonding season for family and friends, this is the best time to take pictures of everyone , The best times are Christmas morning when everyone is unwrapping there gifts or around the table for Christmas dinner!

Nobody has to know that you are about to snap them, unaware pictures are beautiful in their unique way.

How To Make A Great Simple Family Moments Christmas Scrapbook

  • Grab your Christmas photos and your album ready to start crafting.
  • Choose two of your favourite bright Christmas colours (Or just go for the basic red and white) and get the crayons out!
  • Draw a margin around the pages of your scrapbook and shade the spaces of these margins with the crayons. This makes the pages of your scrapbook unique and colourful.
  • Organise and lay out all the beautiful pictures you have taken over the least Christmas season, and lay them out on your scrapbook page. You could chose to add Christmas themed backing paper for your pictures at this point.
  • Write the back story of each picture in contrasting colours around them. and use glue or double sided tape to fix your pictures in place.
  • Add Christmas themed embellishments and stickers to decorate your pages, let lose and make them your own!

Gifts And Presents Christmas Scrapbook

holiday homework scrapbook ideas

This is a sort of straightforward Christmas scrapbook. All that you are journaling about is the different gifts that each relative and family member of yours got as a Christmas present . It can also include the gifts you sent out to your friends or the gifts your family came together to agree to gift other people.

To make this super fun, you can try to capture the moments when people were receiving their gifts and their reactions in our experience these are the best pictures! The memory’s of tying to capture these moments will bring a smile to your face whenever you are reading through your scrapbook.

Tips For Christmas Gifts Scrapbooking

  • Set aside two pages for each person in your family, friends, or any other loved ones you would love to include in the scrapbook.
  • The first page will only have two pictures. The first picture will be the gift each person is receiving or giving out. The other picture will be the picture that captured the moment and reaction of both the giver and the receiver of the gift. The second page will be a little note or backstory about the gifts and persons that both gave and received the gifts.
  • To make the page more colourful, you can experiment with different Stickers or the pens you are using to note down these memories. Use a combination of red and green pens, with each being used in different sections of your write-up.

We have brainstormed two beautiful themes for the scrapbook above, but this time around, let’s change the layouts!

Christmas scrapbook with different sticker embellishments

The first aim is to get colourful with fun sticker embellishments. One way to achieve this is through the use of great Christmas sticker packs and Christmas paper pads . These embellishments could be as a flat sticker, or 3D if you want something extra fancy.

After building your basic scrapbook pages, you can then play around with the design. With these different sticker embellishments. Asides from Christmas stickers, you can also do Embellishments like ribbons or wrapping paper, or even a customized sticker of your family members!

The aim is to make it colourful like the way Christmas itself is colourful thereby, do not forget to experiment with different colours of stickers on the same page, don’t be afraid of over doing it its your scrapbook after all!

The Shining Christmas Scrapbook Idea

holiday homework scrapbook ideas

Making your scrapbook shine is another great way to get someone glued to your scrapbook. Imagine the fun of going through what you documented or seeing another person go through your Christmas memories, sounds great! Therefore, you ensure your scrapbooking is lively and fun by adding a shining effect. Nobody should be bored while going through your Christmas scrapbook, so make it unique and make it your own!

This is also a quick and simple way to go since all you need is some basic scrapbooking equipment and techniques to introduce a shimmery effect to your scrapbook. To really make your scrapbook stand out, you can pick up some scrapbooking paper and glitter card stock.

Use these along with punches , die cutters or the humble pair of scissors to create beautiful cut-outs to decorate your pages!

You can also use a glue pen and some glitter or shimmering powder to decorate your pages, or even your photos if your feeling adventures!

A few other ways to make your Christmas scrapbook sparkle is by using one (or more) of the following:

  • Heat embossing
  • Hot foiling
  • Metallic or glitter pens

3D embellishments Christmas scrapbook

Remember we discussed the addition of embellishments with the use of stickers? Well, maybe it’s time we go more creative. Instead of going for embellishments that are like a sticker, why not try a real object? Sounds fun right? That’s exactly the goal! This is the time you can get creative with your scrapbook using your favourite embellishments and objects is the best bit!

holiday homework scrapbook ideas

You can decide to add embellishments based on the theme of the scrapbook or the theme of each page of the scrapbook. However, this is not a rigid idea, as you can also decide to experiment with whatever comes to your mind. Note that you have to be extra careful during the process when you have to attach these embellishments so you won’t turn your scrapbook into a mess.

You also have to ensure that the colours of the embellishments you are adding must be colours that match. To avoid causing a colour riot that takes the attention off of your photos, we suggest you stick to just two to three colours. Examples of some real-life object embellishment include:

  • Wrapping paper

The Monocoloured Christmas Scrapbooking Idea

holiday homework scrapbook ideas

So we have been emphasizing using two or more different colours of layouts and additional embellishments in your scrapbook, which is a great idea. but if you feel you are doing too much with colour this ones for you!

Understandably, you might not want to go for too many colours for your scrapbook. Sometimes, less can be truly more. You can decide to work with just one colour for all the layouts and embellishments in your scrapbook. It is however recommended not to go for something low-key or dull. A bright colour, say red or green will surely come out great.

The Christmas Tree Story Christmas Scrapbooking Idea

Having discussed some beautiful layouts of designs for your scrapbook, let’s talk about another interesting theme idea for your Christmas scrapbooking. This time around, you are journaling the events that happened while you and your family were decorating the Christmas tree.

This is a fun story to write about as it keeps reminding you of the fun moments you had during the beautiful period of Christmas.

Here a really neat video we love with 10 Christmas scrapbook layouts from, Christine Meyer .

This day-to-day photo journaling helps you preserve different memories for new generation to see and enjoy. We do hope the tips above helped. Will I get caught if I buy an essay?

The most popular question from clients and people on the forums is how not to get caught up in the fact that you bought an essay, and did not write it yourself. Students are very afraid that they will be exposed and expelled from the university or they will simply lose their money, because they will have to redo the work themselves.

If you've chosen a good online research and essay writing service, then you don't have to worry. The writers from the firm conduct their own exploratory research, add scientific facts and back it up with the personal knowledge. None of them copy information from the Internet or steal ready-made articles. Even if this is not enough for the client, he can personally go to the anti-plagiarism website and check the finished document. Of course, the staff of the sites themselves carry out such checks, but no one can forbid you to make sure of the uniqueness of the article for yourself.

Thanks to the privacy policy on web platforms, no one will disclose your personal data and transfer to third parties. You are completely safe from start to finish.
