Genially in a nutshell

How do I make a presentation interactive and how does Genially work? Find the answers to all of your slide-related questions here!

What’s an interactive presentation?

Interactive slides contain clickable hotspots, links, buttons, and animations that are activated at the touch of a button. Instead of reading or watching passively, your audience can actively interact with the content.

Genially’s interaction presentation software allows you to combine text, photos, video clips, audio and other content in one deck. It’s a great way to condense more information into fewer slides.

If you’re a teacher, you can share multiple materials in one single learning resource. Students can create their own projects using digital media and online maps. For business or training, try embedding spreadsheet data, PDFs, and online content directly in your slides.

An interactive slide deck is more user-friendly than a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or Google Slides document. That’s because you can break information down into chunks with pop-ups, labels, voiceovers and annotated infographics.

The other benefit of interactive content is increased engagement. It’s easier to keep your audience’s attention when they’re actively participating. Try Genially’s presentation software and free slideshow maker to see how it’s better than other presentation websites. You won’t go back to standard presentation apps!

How do you make a clickable slide?

The best way to make slides clickable is to use Genially’s free interactive presentation program. Design your slide then apply an interaction. In a couple of clicks, you can add popup windows, hyperlinks, close-up images, games, animations, multimedia and other content.

Choose from the library of hotspot buttons and icons to show people what to click on. Go to Presenter View to get a preview and see how your content will appear to your audience.

How do I create presentations that look professional?

You’ve got a deadline looming and you’re staring at the screen with a blank presentation. We’ve all been there! Starting a presentation design from scratch is tricky, especially if you’re short on time.

Genially’s free online presentation maker has over 2000 ready-to-use templates for professional slide presentations, photos slideshows, and more. Each slide design has been created by our team of top graphic designers. No need to worry about fonts, centering images, or designing a matching color scheme. It’s all done for you.

Start by browsing our layouts and themes for education, business and then customize with your own text and images.

How do I share or download my slides?

Because Genially is a cloud based presentation software, you can simply share the link to your slides. Like other online presentation tools, there are no files to download or store on your computer. Everything is saved online.

When you publish your slide deck, it gets its own unique url, just like a website. Share the link with others to let them explore the content in their own time. If you’re presenting live, just click the Present button.

You can also embed your presentation on your website, company wiki, or social media. Genially is compatible with WordPress, Moodle, Google Classroom, and other platforms. If you use an LMS, you can also download your interactive design slides in SCORM format.

For slideshow videos and slideshows with music, share online or download as an MP4 video. Check out our free slideshow templates for ideas.

Can I make a free presentation in Genially?

You bet! Genially is an easy-to-use slide maker, with a free version and paid plans. The free plan allows you to create unlimited slides with interactions and animations. Subscribe to one of our paid plans for more advanced features.

How Present a Case Study like a Pro

In today’s world, where data is king and persuasion is queen, a killer case study can change the game. Think high-powered meetings at fancy companies or even nailing that college presentation: a rock-solid case study could be the magic weapon you need.

Okay, let’s get real: case studies can be kinda snooze-worthy. But guess what? They don’t have to be!

In this article, you’ll learn all about crafting and presenting powerful case studies. From selecting the right metrics to using persuasive narrative techniques, I will cover every element that transforms a mere report into a compelling case study.

And if you’re feeling a little lost, don’t worry! There are cool tools like Venngage’s Case Study Creator to help you whip up something awesome, even if you’re short on time. Plus, the pre-designed case study templates are like instant polish because let’s be honest, everyone loves a shortcut.

Click to jump ahead:

What is a case study presentation?

Purpose of presenting a case study, how to structure a case study presentation, how long should a case study presentation be, 5 case study presentation templates, tips for delivering an effective case study presentation, common mistakes to avoid in a case study presentation, how to present a case study faqs.

A case study presentation involves a comprehensive examination of a specific subject, which could range from an individual, group, location, event, organization or phenomenon.

They’re like puzzles you get to solve with the audience, all while making you think outside the box.

Unlike a basic report or whitepaper, the purpose of a case study presentation is to stimulate critical thinking among the viewers.

The primary objective of a case study is to provide an extensive and profound comprehension of the chosen topic. You don’t just throw numbers at your audience. You use examples and real-life cases to make you think and see things from different angles.

online study presentation

The primary purpose of presenting a case study is to offer a comprehensive, evidence-based argument that informs, persuades and engages your audience.

Here’s the juicy part: presenting that case study can be your secret weapon. Whether you’re pitching a groundbreaking idea to a room full of suits or trying to impress your professor with your A-game, a well-crafted case study can be the magic dust that sprinkles brilliance over your words.

Think of it like digging into a puzzle you can’t quite crack . A case study lets you explore every piece, turn it over and see how it fits together. This close-up look helps you understand the whole picture, not just a blurry snapshot.

It’s also your chance to showcase how you analyze things, step by step, until you reach a conclusion. It’s all about being open and honest about how you got there.

Besides, presenting a case study gives you an opportunity to connect data and real-world scenarios in a compelling narrative. It helps to make your argument more relatable and accessible, increasing its impact on your audience.

One of the contexts where case studies can be very helpful is during the job interview. In some job interviews, you as candidates may be asked to present a case study as part of the selection process.

Having a case study presentation prepared allows the candidate to demonstrate their ability to understand complex issues, formulate strategies and communicate their ideas effectively.

Case Study Example Psychology

The way you present a case study can make all the difference in how it’s received. A well-structured presentation not only holds the attention of your audience but also ensures that your key points are communicated clearly and effectively.

In this section, let’s go through the key steps that’ll help you structure your case study presentation for maximum impact.

Let’s get into it.

Open with an introductory overview

Start by introducing the subject of your case study and its relevance. Explain why this case study is important and who would benefit from the insights gained. This is your opportunity to grab your audience’s attention.

Explain the problem in question

Dive into the problem or challenge that the case study focuses on. Provide enough background information for the audience to understand the issue. If possible, quantify the problem using data or metrics to show the magnitude or severity.

Detail the solutions to solve the problem

After outlining the problem, describe the steps taken to find a solution. This could include the methodology, any experiments or tests performed and the options that were considered. Make sure to elaborate on why the final solution was chosen over the others.

Key stakeholders Involved

Talk about the individuals, groups or organizations that were directly impacted by or involved in the problem and its solution.

Stakeholders may experience a range of outcomes—some may benefit, while others could face setbacks.

For example, in a business transformation case study, employees could face job relocations or changes in work culture, while shareholders might be looking at potential gains or losses.

Discuss the key results & outcomes

Discuss the results of implementing the solution. Use data and metrics to back up your statements. Did the solution meet its objectives? What impact did it have on the stakeholders? Be honest about any setbacks or areas for improvement as well.

Include visuals to support your analysis

Visual aids can be incredibly effective in helping your audience grasp complex issues. Utilize charts, graphs, images or video clips to supplement your points. Make sure to explain each visual and how it contributes to your overall argument.

Pie charts illustrate the proportion of different components within a whole, useful for visualizing market share, budget allocation or user demographics.

This is particularly useful especially if you’re displaying survey results in your case study presentation.

online study presentation

Stacked charts on the other hand are perfect for visualizing composition and trends. This is great for analyzing things like customer demographics, product breakdowns or budget allocation in your case study.

Consider this example of a stacked bar chart template. It provides a straightforward summary of the top-selling cake flavors across various locations, offering a quick and comprehensive view of the data.

online study presentation

Not the chart you’re looking for? Browse Venngage’s gallery of chart templates to find the perfect one that’ll captivate your audience and level up your data storytelling.

Recommendations and next steps

Wrap up by providing recommendations based on the case study findings. Outline the next steps that stakeholders should take to either expand on the success of the project or address any remaining challenges.

Acknowledgments and references

Thank the people who contributed to the case study and helped in the problem-solving process. Cite any external resources, reports or data sets that contributed to your analysis.

Feedback & Q&A session

Open the floor for questions and feedback from your audience. This allows for further discussion and can provide additional insights that may not have been considered previously.

Closing remarks

Conclude the presentation by summarizing the key points and emphasizing the takeaways. Thank your audience for their time and participation and express your willingness to engage in further discussions or collaborations on the subject.

online study presentation

Well, the length of a case study presentation can vary depending on the complexity of the topic and the needs of your audience. However, a typical business or academic presentation often lasts between 15 to 30 minutes.

This time frame usually allows for a thorough explanation of the case while maintaining audience engagement. However, always consider leaving a few minutes at the end for a Q&A session to address any questions or clarify points made during the presentation.

When it comes to presenting a compelling case study, having a well-structured template can be a game-changer.

It helps you organize your thoughts, data and findings in a coherent and visually pleasing manner.

Not all case studies are created equal and different scenarios require distinct approaches for maximum impact.

To save you time and effort, I have curated a list of 5 versatile case study presentation templates, each designed for specific needs and audiences.

Here are some best case study presentation examples that showcase effective strategies for engaging your audience and conveying complex information clearly.

Writing a top-notch case study, though, can be a challenge. It requires careful organization, clear presentation and meticulous attention to detail. That’s where a good case study psychology template comes in handy.

Think of it as a helpful guide, taking care of formatting and structure while you focus on the juicy content. No more wrestling with layouts or margins – just pour your research magic into crafting a compelling narrative.

So, you’ve spent hours crafting the perfect case study and are now tasked with presenting it. Crafting the case study is only half the battle; delivering it effectively is equally important.

Whether you’re facing a room of executives, academics or potential clients, how you present your findings can make a significant difference in how your work is received.

Forget boring reports and snooze-inducing presentations! Let’s make your case study sing. Here are some key pointers to turn information into an engaging and persuasive performance:

  • Know your audience : Tailor your presentation to the knowledge level and interests of your audience. Remember to use language and examples that resonate with them.
  • Rehearse : Rehearsing your case study presentation is the key to a smooth delivery and for ensuring that you stay within the allotted time. Practice helps you fine-tune your pacing, hone your speaking skills with good word pronunciations and become comfortable with the material, leading to a more confident, conversational and effective presentation.
  • Start strong : Open with a compelling introduction that grabs your audience’s attention. You might want to use an interesting statistic, a provocative question or a brief story that sets the stage for your case study.
  • Be clear and concise : Avoid jargon and overly complex sentences. Get to the point quickly and stay focused on your objectives.
  • Use visual aids : Incorporate slides with graphics, charts or videos to supplement your verbal presentation. Make sure they are easy to read and understand.
  • Tell a story : Use storytelling techniques to make the case study more engaging. A well-told narrative can help you make complex data more relatable and easier to digest.

Ditching the dry reports and slide decks? Venngage’s case study templates let you wow customers with your solutions and gain insights to improve your business plan. Pre-built templates, visual magic and customer captivation – all just a click away. Go tell your story and watch them say “wow!”

Crafting and presenting a case study is a skillful task that requires careful planning and execution. While a well-prepared case study can be a powerful tool for showcasing your successes, educating your audience or encouraging discussion, there are several pitfalls you should avoid to make your presentation as effective as possible. Here are some common mistakes to watch out for:

Overloading with information

A case study is not an encyclopedia. Overloading your presentation with excessive data, text or jargon can make it cumbersome and difficult for the audience to digest the key points. Stick to what’s essential and impactful.

Lack of structure

Jumping haphazardly between points or topics can confuse your audience. A well-structured presentation, with a logical flow from introduction to conclusion, is crucial for effective communication.

Ignoring the audience

Different audiences have different needs and levels of understanding. Failing to adapt your presentation to your audience can result in a disconnect and a less impactful presentation.

Poor visual elements

While content is king, poor design or lack of visual elements can make your case study dull or hard to follow. Make sure you use high-quality images, graphs and other visual aids to support your narrative.

Not focusing on results

A case study aims to showcase a problem and its solution, but what most people care about are the results. Failing to highlight or adequately explain the outcomes can make your presentation fall flat.

How to start a case study presentation?

Starting a case study presentation effectively involves a few key steps:

  • Grab attention : Open with a hook—an intriguing statistic, a provocative question or a compelling visual—to engage your audience from the get-go.
  • Set the stage : Briefly introduce the subject, context and relevance of the case study to give your audience an idea of what to expect.
  • Outline objectives : Clearly state what the case study aims to achieve. Are you solving a problem, proving a point or showcasing a success?
  • Agenda : Give a quick outline of the key sections or topics you’ll cover to help the audience follow along.
  • Set expectations : Let your audience know what you want them to take away from the presentation, whether it’s knowledge, inspiration or a call to action.

How to present a case study on PowerPoint and on Google Slides?

Presenting a case study on PowerPoint and Google Slides involves a structured approach for clarity and impact using presentation slides:

  • Title slide : Start with a title slide that includes the name of the case study, your name and any relevant institutional affiliations.
  • Introduction : Follow with a slide that outlines the problem or situation your case study addresses. Include a hook to engage the audience.
  • Objectives : Clearly state the goals of the case study in a dedicated slide.
  • Findings : Use charts, graphs and bullet points to present your findings succinctly.
  • Analysis : Discuss what the findings mean, drawing on supporting data or secondary research as necessary.
  • Conclusion : Summarize key takeaways and results.
  • Q&A : End with a slide inviting questions from the audience.

What’s the role of analysis in a case study presentation?

The role of analysis in a case study presentation is to interpret the data and findings, providing context and meaning to them.

It helps your audience understand the implications of the case study, connects the dots between the problem and the solution and may offer recommendations for future action.

Is it important to include real data and results in the presentation?

Yes, including real data and results in a case study presentation is crucial to show experience,  credibility and impact. Authentic data lends weight to your findings and conclusions, enabling the audience to trust your analysis and take your recommendations more seriously

How do I conclude a case study presentation effectively?

To conclude a case study presentation effectively, summarize the key findings, insights and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

End with a strong call-to-action or a thought-provoking question to leave a lasting impression on your audience.

What’s the best way to showcase data in a case study presentation ?

The best way to showcase data in a case study presentation is through visual aids like charts, graphs and infographics which make complex information easily digestible, engaging and creative.

Don’t just report results, visualize them! This template for example lets you transform your social media case study into a captivating infographic that sparks conversation.

online study presentation

Choose the type of visual that best represents the data you’re showing; for example, use bar charts for comparisons or pie charts for parts of a whole.

Keep the design consistent and simple, avoiding clutter or overly complex visuals that could distract from the message.

Choose a template that perfectly suits your case study where you can utilize different visual aids for maximum impact.

How to write a case study: a 4-step framework, how to do a case study presentation: 3 proven tips, how long should a case study be, final tip: use compelling presentation visuals, business case study examples, what is a case study .

Let’s start with this great case study definition by the University of South Caroline:

In the social sciences, the term case study refers to both a method of analysis and a specific research design for examining a problem, both of which can generalize findings across populations.

In simpler terms — a case study is investigative research into a problem aimed at presenting or highlighting solution(s) to the analyzed issues.

A standard business case study provides insights into:

  • General business/market conditions
  • The main problem faced
  • Methods applied
  • The outcomes gained using a specific tool or approach

Case studies (also called case reports) are also used in clinical settings to analyze patient outcomes outside of the business realm.

But this is a topic for another time. In this post, we’ll focus on teaching you how to write and present a business case, plus share several case study PowerPoint templates and design tips!

Why Case Studies are a Popular Marketing Technique

Besides presenting a solution to an internal issue, case studies are often used as a content marketing technique . According to a 2020 Content Marketing Institute report, 69% of B2B marketers use case studies as part of their marketing mix.

A case study informs the reader about a possible solution and soft-sells the results, which can be achieved with your help (e.g., by using your software or by partnering with your specialist).

For the above purpose, case studies work like a charm. Per the same report:

  • For 9% of marketers, case studies are also the best method for nurturing leads.
  • 23% admit that case studies are beneficial for improving conversions.

Moreover, case studies also help improve your brand’s credibility, especially in the current fake news landscape and dubious claims made without proper credit.

Ultimately, case studies naturally help build up more compelling, relatable stories and showcase your product benefits through the prism of extra social proof, courtesy of the case study subject.

Most case studies come either as a slide deck or as a downloadable PDF document.

Typically, you have several options to distribute your case study for maximum reach:

  • Case study presentations — in-person, virtual, or pre-recorded, there are many times when a case study presentation comes in handy. For example, during client workshops, sales pitches, networking events, conferences, trade shows, etc.
  • Dedicated website page — highlighting case study examples on your website is a great way to convert middle-on-the-funnel prospects. Google’s Think With Google case study section is a great example of a web case study design done right.

  • Blog case studies — data-driven storytelling is a staunch way to stand apart from your competition by providing unique insights, no other brand can tell.
  • Video case studies — video is a great medium for showcasing more complex business cases and celebrating customer success stories.

Once you decide on your case study format, the next step is collecting data and then translating it into a storyline. There are different case study methods and research approaches you can use to procure data.

But let’s say you already have all your facts straight and need to organize them in a clean copy for your presentation deck. Here’s how you should do it.

Business Case Study Example PPT Template

1. Identify the Problem

Every compelling case study research starts with a problem statement definition. While in business settings, there’s no need to explain your methodology in-depth; you should still open your presentation with a quick problem recap slide.

Be sure to mention:

  • What’s the purpose of the case study? What will the audience learn?
  • Set the scene. Explain the before, aka the problems someone was facing.
  • Advertise the main issues and findings without highlighting specific details.

The above information should nicely fit in several paragraphs or 2-3 case study template slides

2. Explain the Solution

The bulk of your case study copy and presentation slides should focus on the provided solution(s). This is the time to speak at length about how the subject went from before to the glorious after.

Here are some writing prompts to help you articulate this better:

  • State the subject’s main objective and goals. What outcomes were they after?
  • Explain the main solution(s) provided. What was done? Why this, but not that?
  • Mention if they tried any alternatives. Why did those work? Why were you better?

This part may take the longest to write. Don’t rush it and reiterate several times. Sprinkle in some powerful words and catchphrases to make your copy more compelling.

3. Collect Testimonials

Persuasive case studies feature the voice of customer (VoC) data — first-party testimonials and assessments of how well the solution works. These provide extra social proof and credibility to all the claims you are making.

So plan and schedule interviews with your subjects to collect their input and testimonials. Also, design your case study interview questions in a way that lets you obtain quantifiable results.

4. Package The Information in a Slide Deck

Once you have a rough first draft, try different business case templates and designs to see how these help structure all the available information.

As a rule of thumb, try to keep one big idea per slide. If you are talking about a solution, first present the general bullet points. Then give each solution a separate slide where you’ll provide more context and perhaps share some quantifiable results.

For example, if you look at case study presentation examples from AWS like this one about Stripe , you’ll notice that the slide deck has few texts and really focuses on the big picture, while the speaker provides extra context.

Your spoken presentation (and public speaking skills ) are equally if not more important than the case study copy and slide deck. To make a strong business case, follow these quick techniques.

Focus on Telling a Great Story

A case study is a story of overcoming a challenge, and achieving something grand. Your delivery should reflect that. Step away from the standard “features => benefits” sales formula. Instead, make your customer the hero of the study. Describe the road they went through and how you’ve helped them succeed.

The premises of your story can be as simple as:

  • Help with overcoming a hurdle
  • Gaining major impact
  • Reaching a new milestone
  • Solving a persisting issue no one else code

Based on the above, create a clear story arc. Show where your hero started. Then explain what type of journey they went through. Inject some emotions into the mix to make your narrative more relatable and memorable.

Experiment with Copywriting Formulas

Copywriting is the art and science of organizing words into compelling and persuasive combinations that help readers retain the right ideas.

To ensure that the audience retains the right takeaways from your case study presentation, you can try using some of the classic copywriting formulas to structure your delivery. These include:

  • AIDCA — short for A ttention, I nterest, D esire, C onviction, and A ction. First, grab the audience’s attention by addressing the major problem. Next, pique their interest with some teaser facts. Spark their desire by showing that you know the right way out. Then, show a conviction that you know how to solve the issue—finally, prompt follow-up action such as contacting you to learn more.
  • PADS — is short for Problem, Agitation, Discredit, or Solution. This is more of a sales approach to case study narration. Again, you start with a problem, agitate about its importance, discredit why other solutions won’t cut it, and then present your option.
  • 4Ps — short for P roblem, P romise, P roof, P roposal. This is a middle-ground option that prioritizes storytelling over hard pitches. Set the scene first with a problem. Then make a promise of how you can solve it. Show proof in the form of numbers, testimonials, and different scenarios. Round it up with a proposal for getting the same outcomes.

Take an Emotion-Inducing Perspective

The key to building a strong rapport with an audience is showing that you are one of them and fully understand what they are going through.

One of the ways to build this connection is by speaking from an emotion-inducing perspective. This is best illustrated with an example:

  • A business owner went to the bank
  • A business owner came into a bank branch

In the second case, the wording prompts listeners to paint a mental picture from the perspective of the bank employees — a role you’d like them to relate to. By placing your audience in the right visual perspective, you can make them more receptive to your pitches.

One common question that arises when creating a case study is determining its length. The length of a case study can vary depending on the complexity of the problem and the level of detail you want to provide. Here are some general guidelines to help you decide how long your case study should be:

  • Concise and Informative: A good case study should be concise and to the point. Avoid unnecessary fluff and filler content. Focus on providing valuable information and insights.
  • Tailor to Your Audience: Consider your target audience when deciding the length. If you’re presenting to a technical audience, you might include more in-depth technical details. For a non-technical audience, keep it more high-level and accessible.
  • Cover Key Points: Ensure that your case study covers the key points effectively. These include the problem statement, the solution, and the outcomes. Provide enough information for the reader to understand the context and the significance of your case.
  • Visuals: Visual elements such as charts, graphs, images, and diagrams can help convey information more effectively. Use visuals to supplement your written content and make complex information easier to understand.
  • Engagement: Keep your audience engaged. A case study that is too long may lose the reader’s interest. Make sure the content is engaging and holds the reader’s attention throughout.
  • Consider the Format: Depending on the format you choose (e.g., written document, presentation, video), the ideal length may vary. For written case studies, aim for a length that can be easily read in one sitting.

In general, a written case study for business purposes often falls in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 words. However, this is not a strict rule, and the length can be shorter or longer based on the factors mentioned above.

Our brain is wired to process images much faster than text. So when you are presenting a case study, always look for an opportunity to tie in some illustrations such as:

  • A product demo/preview
  • Processes chart
  • Call-out quotes or numbers
  • Custom illustrations or graphics
  • Customer or team headshots

Use icons to minimize the volume of text. Also, opt for readable fonts that can look good in a smaller size too.

To better understand how to create an effective business case study, let’s explore some examples of successful case studies:

Apple Inc.: Apple’s case study on the launch of the iPhone is a classic example. It covers the problem of a changing mobile phone market, the innovative solution (the iPhone), and the outstanding outcomes, such as market dominance and increased revenue.

Tesla, Inc.: Tesla’s case study on electric vehicles and sustainable transportation is another compelling example. It addresses the problem of environmental concerns and the need for sustainable transportation solutions. The case study highlights Tesla’s electric cars as the solution and showcases the positive impact on reducing carbon emissions.

Amazon.com: Amazon’s case study on customer-centricity is a great illustration of how the company transformed the e-commerce industry. It discusses the problem of customer dissatisfaction with traditional retail, Amazon’s customer-focused approach as the solution, and the remarkable outcomes in terms of customer loyalty and market growth.

Coca-Cola: Coca-Cola’s case study on brand evolution is a valuable example. It outlines the challenge of adapting to changing consumer preferences and demographics. The case study demonstrates how Coca-Cola continually reinvented its brand to stay relevant and succeed in the global market.

Airbnb: Airbnb’s case study on the sharing economy is an intriguing example. It addresses the problem of travelers seeking unique and affordable accommodations. The case study presents Airbnb’s platform as the solution and highlights its impact on the hospitality industry and the sharing economy.

These examples showcase the diversity of case studies in the business world and how they effectively communicate problems, solutions, and outcomes. When creating your own business case study, use these examples as inspiration and tailor your approach to your specific industry and target audience.

Finally, practice your case study presentation several times — solo and together with your team — to collect feedback and make last-minute refinements!

Successful online study groups

This blog post gives an undergraduate student's perspective on ways instructors might support online study groups.

With in-person instruction, student study groups tend to form naturally, whether with other students in a dorm, friends in a club, or students sitting nearby in lectures. However, remote learning has made it increasingly difficult for students to connect with their peers and form online study groups. Given this new challenge, it can be very impactful for instructors to help students form study groups during periods of remote instruction.

Why are study groups beneficial?

While students can be successful only studying alone, there are many benefits of group study that are hard to replicate with solo study, especially with remote learning:

  • Studying in groups helps students build a deeper understanding of the material , as they discuss and engage with topics beyond what can be covered in lecture or in readings.
  • Study groups provide a comfortable place to ask questions , especially if students are unable to attend office hours or want a quick answer to a minor question.
  • Studying with other people can help students feel more connected to their classmates. This is particularly valuable with remote learning because of the isolating nature of asynchronous lectures and other online classes.
  • Students have reported feeling less motivated to do work now that many are living at home. Study groups help provide motivation and accountability for students to study as they feel committed to the others in their group.

How can instructors help?

With the challenges of online learning preventing many students from connecting with their classmates and forming study groups, any interventions from you can really help if done effectively.

Start Early and Mean It

By encouraging students to engage in study groups before or during the first few lectures, you can enable them to get to know their peers better early on. This will help students feel more comfortable with their classmates and with asking their classmates questions throughout the quarter. Plus, by starting early and emphasizing the value of study groups, you are demonstrating to students that you are serious about study groups and that you believe study groups will set them up for success in your class.

If you don't help students understand the importance of study groups, they may view this as extra work and be less willing to participate, losing out on the potential benefits. But if you can get your students to appreciate the value of studying in groups and take ownership, they are likely to learn the material better and enjoy your class more.

Help Organize Groups

Students may feel anxious about reaching out to their classmates on their own or unsure whether others would want to work with them. For classes with frosh in particular, students may not know anyone else going into the class and may tend to just work alone. While you can't force your students to become friends, you can help make the process of forming study groups much easier and less stressful.

You may want to start by polling students on whether they would like to form study groups independently or if they would rather that you decide the groupings. It is likely that most students will want you to organize groups, even in upperclassmen courses. If the result is mixed, you can encourage students who want to form their own groups to do so and inform you, and then organize study groups out of the remaining students. If most but not all students want to form their own groups, you can ask students without a group to write to you directly to help them find others to connect with.

It is likely that most students will want you to organize groups, even in upperclassmen courses.

If your students prefer for you to organize the groups, it may be helpful to organize students by time zones. For any students living in a distant time zone from others, you can reach out to them directly to see what would work best for them.

Incentivize Study Groups

If you are really serious about having students study together, you can incentivize study groups by giving students a few points of extra credit or a similar reward for forming and meeting with their group. While this is not necessary, it can further demonstrate to your students that you see real value in group study.

However, given issues with accessibility and the many other challenges of online learning, forcing students to engage with study groups and grading them on it would not be the best approach. Study groups can be encouraged to help your students connect with each other and expand their learning, but students who are unable to join groups should not be penalized.

Don't Force It

As beneficial as study groups can be for many classes, they may not be relevant for all classes, or they may look very different.  For some classes, students may benefit more from working on several group projects instead.  By assigning a group project early in the class, students still benefit from connecting with their peers and building a network of students to ask questions to for the duration of the quarter.

For some classes, students may benefit more from working on several group projects instead.

With in-person classes, students are typically most likely to meet in study groups prior to midterms and finals. Without finals in many classes and with a transition to more pset-based courses, study groups may look different than normal. For example, you can encourage students to work together on psets, so long as they still write their own answers on their respective assignments. To ensure that students are being active contributors in groups, you could encourage them to each try to complete the assignment on their own, and then come together to discuss answers and see if there are any common questions or confusing topics to bring to office hours (this all, of course, depends on how you believe students should be completing their assignments in line with the Honor Code and to maximize their learning).

*** Given the many benefits of studying in groups, especially during remote learning, encouraging students to engage in online study groups can be a very positive experience. These ideas can help you get started, but study groups will only be effective if your students are receptive and motivated to work in their groups. So, it will be essential for you to communicate with them throughout your course to figure out the best solution for everyone.

More Screen Time Means Less Parent-Child Talk, Study Finds

Emily Baumgaertner

By Emily Baumgaertner

According to new research, “technoference” is real.

Toddlers who are exposed to more screen time have fewer conversations with their parents or caregivers by an array of measures. They say less, hear less and have fewer back-and-forth exchanges with adults compared with children who spend less time in front of screens.

Those findings, published on Monday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics , make up one of the first sets of longitudinal evidence to confirm an intuitive reality: Screens are not just linked to higher rates of obesity, depression and hyperactivity among children; they also curb face-to-face interactions at home — with long-term implications that could be worrisome.

A 2-year-old boy playing on an iPad.

Some Background: What interrupts household chatter?

Researchers have long known that growing up in a language-rich environment is vital for early language development. More language exposure early in life is associated with social development , higher I.Q.s and even better brain function.

Given the value of such exposure, researchers in Australia were eager to investigate potential factors within the home environment that could be interrupting opportunities for parents to interact verbally with their children. Previous studies on the impact of technology mostly examined a parent’s use of a mobile device, rather than a child’s use of screens, and relied on self-reported measures of screen time rather than automated monitoring.

What Researchers Found: Every minute counts.

The new study, led by Mary E. Brushe , a researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute at the University of Western Australia, gathered data from 220 families across South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland with children who were born in 2017. Once every six months until they turned 3, the children wore T-shirts or vests that held small digital language processors that automatically tracked their exposure to certain types of electronic noise as well as language spoken by the child, the parent or another adult.

The researchers were particularly interested in three measures of language: words spoken by an adult, child vocalizations and turns in the conversation. They modeled each measure separately and adjusted the results for age, sex and other factors, such as the mother’s education level and the number of children at home.

Researchers found that at almost all ages, increased screen time squelched conversation. When the children were 18 months old, each additional minute of screen time was associated with 1.3 fewer child vocalizations, for example, and when they were 2 years old, an additional minute was associated with 0.4 fewer turns in conversation.

The strongest negative associations emerged when the children were 3 years old — and were exposed to an average of 2 hours 52 minutes of screen time daily. At this age, just one additional minute of screen time was associated with 6.6 fewer adult words, 4.9 fewer child vocalizations and 1.1 fewer turns in conversation.

What Happens Next: A look at “co-viewing.”

Lynn Perry, as associate professor of psychology at the University of Miami who was not involved in the study, said she was impressed by the way the study employed an objective measuring tool to demonstrate associations that “had previously only been assumed.”

Dr. Perry, who studies language and social interaction among preschool children, said experts in the field should next investigate how media designed to be viewed by parents and children together “might allow for more conversational turn-taking and bypass some of the negatives of screen time.”

Sarah Kucker, an expert in language development and digital media at Southern Methodist University in Dallas who was also not involved in the study, called the analysis “impressive” but emphasized that understanding the nuances of how and when media is used in a larger and more diverse population is “a critical next step.”

“Media is not going away,” Dr. Kucker said, “but paying attention to how and when media is used may be a good future avenue.”

The social media platform is also popular with influencers who amass a large online following around a particular interest, like health and wellness. They can then leverage that popularity to profit from the sale of products and services they promote through their accounts.

But some influencers on Instagram are also profiting from the spread of misinformation, according to a new study from researchers at the University of Washington . The study looked at three Instagram influencers who spread vaccine misinformation with messaging that appealed to users with varying interests, from fashion to homeschooling. Those influencers posted content that linked to products such as essential oils they falsely claimed would cure colds, viruses and other ailments. Rachel Moran is the lead author of the study, a senior research scientist and an affiliate assistant professor at the Center for an Informed Public at the University of Washington. She joins us to share her findings.

Read our review of the best no deposit casino bonuses available in the United States and snag a promo code for the biggest offers.

While many online casino signup bonuses come in the form of a deposit match offer, some platforms on the market offer a no deposit bonus to try and bring in customers who are looking to play games on the best casino apps without risking any real money.

There are plenty of online casinos out there, but only a few of them offer a no deposit bonus, and even the ones that do have different advantages and disadvantages. It’s very important to have as much information as possible when choosing where to sign up, as every player has different needs and priorities.

Whether these no deposit casinos offer their rewards by way of in-game currency, free spins with progressive jackpot slots, or anything in between, they can provide new users with some excellent value as they get started playing, so let’s take a look at some of the best no deposit casino bonus offers available in the United States right now.

More on No Deposit Casino Welcome Bonuses

What is a no deposit casino bonus, how to choose the right no deposit welcome bonus, featured no deposit welcome bonuses.

Types of No Deposit Casino Bonuses Explained

How to redeem no deposit welcome bonus codes online, no deposit welcome bonus codes faq.

Many popular real money online casinos offer new users some sort of welcome bonus to get started with the site. These bonuses typically require you to deposit a certain amount of money in exchange for rewards from the online casino, and the funds you receive are often subject to wagering requirements and bet limits.

No deposit casinos, however, have fewer strings attached to their no deposit bonus offers. Contrary to all of the requirements associated with traditional casino bonus offers, you can receive all of the benefits of a no deposit bonus just by signing up with an online casino that offers one.

As the name suggests, a no deposit bonus does not require you to make a deposit, meaning that the risk is very low for new users. While the value ceiling sometimes isn’t as high as those associated with deposit bonus offers, and you can sometimes be confined to eligible games, these offers are definitely worth your consideration, especially for new users.

All of the no deposit bonuses we’ll discuss in this article have their own pros and cons, so the “right” no deposit bonus codes will be different for every user.

If you’re a fan of slot games, you might have different needs than blackjack players. Some players may prefer more free spins , while others prioritize cash value. It all depends on your own priorities, so understanding the terms and conditions of all available no deposit bonuses is certainly key.

FanDuel Casino Michigan featured games that you can apply the bonus code to.

BetMGM is one of our favorites among the online casino platforms offering exclusive no deposit bonuses right now. New users with this platform can earn $25 worth of casino credits just by signing up, although in order to be eligible to withdraw your winnings from these types of free play bonuses, you usually do have to make a deposit. Borgata is offering something very similar, with $20 available to new users.

FanDuel also offers new users a no deposit online casino offer, although this one is in the form of free slots spins. The number of spins varies based on where you’re located (NJ, MI, PA only), so it’s important to review the no deposit bonus casino terms and conditions before you get started.

Similarly, Golden Nugget Casino is offering 200 free spins to new users, while Tipico is running one of the best no deposit online casino bonuses we’ve seen, with as many as 500 free bonus spins available to new users who register.

Game-Specific No Deposit Bonuses

Some no deposit bonus offers only apply to certain eligible games. This can be restrictive to some, but if one of these eligible games is a favorite of yours, it can be an eye-catching opportunity.

Slots are the most common eligible games for a game-specific no deposit bonus. Currently, both Tipico Casino and Resorts Online Casino are offering 500 free spins with certain slots, while Golden Nugget is offering 200 spins.

Ocean Online Casino is running a smaller offer of 50 spins to new users, while FanDuel is also offering spins, but the number varies by state.

In uncommon instances, games like blackjack and poker can also be tied to game-specific bonus offers. It’s more common for existing players to have access to these bonuses, but they’re great ones to grab when available.

Best No Deposit Casino Welcome Bonuses

Below are the ten best online casinos in the United States along with any no deposit bonuses they are currently offering. Let’s take a look at each one to learn more about the terms and potential rewards.

BetMGM Casino

BetMGM Casino has a great new customer offer. Anyone in New Jersey , Michigan , or Pennsylvania can get a 100% Deposit Match up to $1,000 + a $25 no deposit bonus on the House. In West Virginia , the match is worth up to $2,500 and comes with a pair of no deposit bonuses including 50 free spins and $50 on the house!

Remember to use the BetMGM Casino bonus code NPBONUS to snag these great deals.

BetMGM Casino comes from a vaunted brand whose roots are in old-school casinos. From coast to coast, MGM Resorts have been some of the country’s top gambling venues for decades. Now, with the prevalence of online gambling, this venerable brand is also a leader among online casinos, and is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in playing your favorite casino games online.

Playing with BetMGM Casino is not only fun, it’s easy to get started with a modern and intuitive mobile app. BetMGM Casino also offers a lot of value; there are plenty of ongoing bonuses for existing users, as well as a fantastic BetMGM Rewards loyalty program. This platform is also known for its progressive jackpot slots, with prizes reaching up to a whopping $1 million.

BetMGM is also one of the biggest brands offering a no deposit casino bonus. You can access a free play bonus of $25 in casino credits, but if you win using only these funds, you do have to make a real-money deposit before you withdraw your winnings. Still, this is a great way to get your bankroll started without the commitment of a hefty deposit-match bonus, making this one of the best no deposit bonuses available.

FanDuel Casino

FanDuel Casino is offering a $1,000 Play It Again Bonus + 200 Bonus Spins for new customers in NJ, PA, & MI. No FanDuel Casino promo code is required to get this great offer, as new players can claim it today using this link .

Like many other online casinos, FanDuel didn’t get its start as an online casino; this company’s first area of operation was running daily fantasy sports contests. While FanDuel still excels in this area, they also now operate one of the top online sportsbooks on the market, as well as their excellent online casino, which is, of course, of the utmost interest to us in our search for the best no deposit bonus casinos.

As FanDuel Casino has prioritized the growth of its online casino product, the product has been fine-tuned to make it one of the best available. With daily rewards available for consistent users, the casino bonus opportunities don’t end after you sign up; with this online casino, there’s value available all the time.

There are two components to the casino bonus, and while neither one is a classic deposit bonus, only one can truly be a contender to be the best no deposit bonus. One component is a safety net, which allows you to receive a refund on some losses if your first day of betting doesn’t go so well. While this isn’t necessarily a deposit bonus, you do need to make a real money deposit to start betting and take advantage.

The true no deposit casino bonus is the free spins component of this offer. The number of spins offered, or if spins are even being offered, varies based on the state in which you are located, so be sure to understand the terms and conditions before signing up. Still, this is a great opportunity to get a head-start with one of the best no deposit casino bonuses on the market.

Golden Nugget Casino

Golden Nugget Casino offers new players a 100% Deposit up to $1,000 + 200 Bonus Spins. No Golden Nugget Online Casino promo code is required, as new players based in NJ can click on this link to claim.

Whether your favorite online casino games are online slots or table games, Golden Nugget Casino has you covered as one of the oldest brands in the gambling industry. Since 1946, Golden Nugget has been providing an outstanding in-person betting experience, and now they’re doing the same online for those who want to play slots or cards from the comfort of their own home.

Golden Nugget also gives you the chance to earn casino credits as an existing user through the platform’s user referral program. If you’re a fan of online casinos that have a real-life, classic feel, evocative of an in-person location, Golden Nugget might be the right choice for you.

Golden Nugget is one of the more interesting online casinos when it comes to the bonus offerings for new users, as there are two parts to their offer. There is a classic deposit bonus, the likes of which you will see at many online casinos, but they’re also offering 200 free spins to new users, which is not tied to a given deposit amount.

This is a great opportunity for users looking for no deposit bonus casinos, as you can get involved right away without making a big investment.

Borgata Casino

Borgata Casino is offering new players a 100% deposit match up to $1,000 + $20 no deposit bonus on Sign Up. Use the Borgata Casino bonus code NYPBONUSBOR to get this great offer.

For many years, Borgata has been a mainstay in Atlantic City, a place local bettors and tourists alike could find on their trip down the famed boardwalk and play cards, roulette, or their favorite slot game, among other choices. Now, this brand is committed to providing users with a top online casino option, and they’ve done a great job thus far.

Borgata is known for offering lots of perks to existing users, so any welcome offer does not represent the entire bonus value that will be available to you over your time as a customer of this casino. These bonuses for repeat customers rarely require bonus codes, and are easy to find on this casino site and mobile app.

As we’ve learned, while most casino sites offer bonus codes of some sort, not all top online casinos offer a true no deposit bonus. Casino newcomers and veterans alike will be given the chance to get a nice head start with Borgata, by way of $20 worth of casino credit dollars. This is a great offer with very few strings attached, and it makes Borgata Casino an appealing option for those getting started with online casinos.

Fanatics Casino

While Fanatics Casino technically isn’t offering a no deposit bonus to new users right now, the brand’s current welcome offer is as close as it gets. Right now, first-time players in MI, PA, or WV who register for a Fanatics Casino account using this link can deposit $5 and take home 250 free spins!

Fanatics just jumped into the world of online sports betting by acquiring and rebranding PointsBet, and now they’ve entered the field of online casinos as well. The Fanatics Casino app is a very visually appealing one, with great supporting technology making the user experience a smooth one.

This cross-industry branding effort has been exciting to watch, as the company has its sights set on becoming a top online casino. On Fanatics, you can play blackjack, slot games, or any of the other classic casino games you know and love from other in-person casinos and online platforms.

Caesars Palace Online Casino

Caesars Palace Online Casino has a 100% Deposit Match up to $2,500 + 2,500 Rewards Points promotion going on right now. Be sure to use promo code NYPCASINO2500 to get this great offer. Terms and Conditions apply.

Anyone familiar with online casinos or even their retail counterparts is very likely to have experienced the Caesars brand. Caesars has a major presence in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and other casino-heavy locations, and now the company is a leader in the online casino market as well, while still maintaining a great experience for visitors at their brick-and-mortar locations.

Caesars Palace Online Casino has more gaming experience than most other casino brands, and it shows. The breadth of options offered by its platform is outstanding, so you can play all of your favorite online casino games from live dealer games to online slots with this one online casino.

Caesars also offers an unrivaled loyalty program. The rewards points accumulated betting with Caesars Palace Online Casino can be used for perks within the online casino itself, but can also be redeemed at in-person locations for hotel stays and amenities.

Unfortunately, Caesars does not offer a no deposit bonus for new users, but be sure to keep an eye on this major online casino, as the promotions are always changing. For existing users, great perks and bonuses pop up very frequently as well, and while some are associated with an additional deposit, many will not be.

bet365 Casino

While it isn’t a no deposit bonus, bet365 Casino is offering new players a lucrative 100% New Player Bonus up to $1,000. Remember to use the bet365 Casino bonus code NYP365 to get this great offer.

While bet365 Casino doesn’t have quite as long of a history as the brands that started out in Las Vegas and Atlantic City as in-person gambling venues, they have as much online experience as anyone as probably the largest gambling brand that was founded primarily as an online platform.

As a large international company, bet365 has one of the biggest libraries of games, so whether you prefer video poker games or playing slots, you can win real money with this casino site by playing your favorite types of casino games. The desktop and mobile app versions of this online casino are both considered to be top-notch, making for a seamless user experience.

While bet365 is currently purely a deposit bonus casino, in terms of what they’re offering for new users, their terms and offerings are changing all the time, so be sure to keep up to date on this type of news. As this major European brand continues to expand its presence in the United States, expect them to offer solid bonus rewards to compete with the other online casinos in each new state.

Ocean Online Casino

Ocean Casino offers new customers a 100% Deposit Match Bonus up to $1,200. No Ocean Casino promo code is needed to claim this great offer, as new registrants can get started by simply clicking on this link .

Ocean is new both in terms of in-person and online casinos, but it is already one of the best in the business. This brand has been praised for its excellent variety, giving users a great chance to find their new favorite slot game.

In an attempt to gain market share from some of the industry’s biggest casino sites, Ocean Online Casino has created an excellent product that can be enhanced with a no deposit bonus.

They are one of the online casinos offering deposit bonuses, but they also have a no deposit bonus available. One of the components of their offer for new users, currently specifically in New Jersey, is 50 free bonus spins. This gives you the immediate opportunity to win cash prizes, so alongside the potential bonus cash from the deposit bonus, the spins give you an awesome chance to get off to a strong start with Ocean Online Casino.

Tipico Casino

New players can get a 400% Deposit Match up to $100 and 500 Free Spins from Tipico Casino. No Tipico Casino promo code is needed, as first-time players can get started today by clicking on this link .

This brand is a favorite in Germany, where it originated, and is now making its way into the US market with some terrific cash prizes available.

Tipico offers all of the major game options as well as plenty of individual games within those categories. The whole platform is presented through a user-friendly mobile app and desktop site, so it’s easy to get started with Tipico and have a great time playing.

As Tipico looks to expand into the United States, it’s offering new users an excellent no deposit bonus. Tipico is offering as many as 500 free spins to new users, independent of their deposit casino bonus. The terms and conditions of this offer vary by state, so be sure to familiarize yourself with all of the relevant details for your area.

This offer gives you the chance to play and win cash prizes without assuming risk. For those looking to get into online casinos and test the waters before fully buying in, Tipico presents a great opportunity.

Resorts Casino

New customers at Resorts Casino can get 500 bonus spins after depositing $50 or more. No Resorts Casino promo code is needed to get this great offer — just click this link to claim!

As the first casino hotel in Atlantic City, the Resorts Casino brand has always been a trailblazer. Now, it’s moved into the online space, offering a wide array of table games and high-value jackpot slots.

Resorts Casino is also offering one of the best new no deposit bonuses on the market, with 500 extra spins available in addition to a deposit offer. This is yet another option for new and experienced users alike who want to expand their range of online casino options. With this bonus offer, you can start with an advantage and potentially earn some winnings without assuming much risk.

There are plenty of different forms in which no deposit casino bonuses are distributed, including the following bonus types:

No Deposit Bonus Spins

Bonus spins are a common type of no deposit bonus, and these can usually be redeemed on specific slot machines in the online casino.

No Deposit Bonus Chips

Bonus chips are a type of no deposit bonus reward that can be used in classic table games, like poker, blackjack, or roulette.

No Deposit Fixed Cash amounts

Since these no deposit bonus rewards are not associated with any deposit or bet size, the amount of cash you receive, in whatever form you receive it, is fixed, or pre-determined. It’s usually somewhere between $20-$50, a nice boost as you get started playing with an online casino.

Sweepstakes, Giveaways, and Referral Bonuses

These bonuses are available to existing users, as they will be found on the online casino app. Most notably, referral bonuses are a great way to capture value if you have a friend who is interested in starting up with the online casino; if they sign up using your referral link or code, you’ll both earn some sort of reward.

This offer type will allow you to reclaim your net losses over a certain time period, usually 24 hours or less. You will be repaid in some form of in-game bonus currency, rather than withdrawal-eligible cash.

Spin to Win

Free spin to win bonuses can be tied to a specific slot machine or slots from a certain provider. The value of each spin, and the games they can be used on, will always be stated in the terms and conditions, with free spins usually offered in increments of 20, 30, or 50.

A gambler plays a slot machine at Harrah's casino in Atlantic City, N.J. on Sept. 29, 2023.

To redeem no deposit bonuses, the first step is either downloading the corresponding mobile app or navigating to the desktop website. Once you’ve taken one of those two actions, you’ll need to sign up for the casino.

Some deposit bonuses are often attached a promo or bonus code that must be submitted during the sign-up process; make sure you know whether you need to do this, and when the time comes, remember to do so if necessary.

Once you’ve signed up, with a code if applicable, you’re just about done- the beauty of deposit bonuses is that you don’t have to do much more than sign up.

You can contribute your own money later if you desire, and some casinos require you to do so in order to withdraw your initial post-bonus winnings, but with most of the bonuses discussed in this page, you can start playing right away.

Almost all casino bonuses can be claimed via a mobile app, here’s how:

  • Download an online casino app and create a new player account with the casino
  • Input the welcome/first deposit bonus code if any
  • Once an account is open, opt in for the bonus offer, and input the bonus code if necessary. Then, the online casino will immediately credit the account with the bonus

Want to learn more about no deposit casino bonus codes? Read these common deposit bonus FAQs along with all the answers below.

Which Online Casino has the Best No Deposit Bonus?

The bonus that’s best for you will largely depend on your needs and preferences. Generally speaking, Tipico Casino’s 500 bonus spins is probably the best free spins no deposit bonus available. In terms of cash value, however, the $25 in casino credits from BetMGM Casino is tough to beat.

How Do Players Benefit from a No Deposit Bonus?

A true no deposit bonus code offer can provide players with the opportunity to bet with essentially no risk. These no deposit codes grant you some sort of bonus, whether it’s free spins or in-game currency with the legal online casinos offering the deals, without the condition of a qualifying deposit. Not all online casino operators offer you the chance to win real money without making an investment of your own money, but when you do see online casinos offer something like this, make sure to take advantage of it.

Are No Deposit Casino Bonus Codes Only for New Players?

Yes, only new players can take advantage of these no deposit bonus codes. If you are already a customer of a certain casino and want to take advantage of the no deposit bonus codes from another platform, you’re more than welcome, but you can only do it at a no deposit bonus online casino at which you don’t already have an account.

Are No Deposit Bonuses Worth It?

That’s a question that is certainly up to you, and really depends on how much value you’re able to pull from the opportunities you’re given. That said, no deposit bonuses, which require no investment on your part, are definitely worth it. As long as you make sure to practice responsible gambling , these perks can be a great way to get started.

How Do I Know If I’m Eligible for a No Deposit Welcome Bonus Code?

The terms and conditions vary for each one of these no deposit bonus codes, but a few things ring true for all no deposit bonuses. You must be of legal gambling age in your jurisdiction and you must be in a state where the casino is operating online. Lastly, all regulated online casinos require that you must not already have an account with the casino from which you’re trying to claim the bonus credits or spins.
