Long Speech On Vote Of Thanks

Vote of thanks for seminar in high school.

Good evening everyone. I, Pragya Kumari, feel very privileged to be able to present here, on this auspicious occasion, and be asked to deliver a vote of thanks on behalf of our School, at today's seminar “Diving into Remote sensing.”

As we all know that saying thank you is a respectful way to show appreciation towards a person, but these words would be less for our today's chief guest and speaker Shrini Sharma, who is a scientist from ISRO, and is especially present here to deliver a talk about remote sensing and its usage. Her talk not only gave us knowledge about remote sensing, but also taught us how to think like a scientist.

A true scientist uses their knowledge in the development of the nation, which we could clearly understand from her lecture. I would also like to thank our second chief guest Sahu Kumar, a specialist in remote sensing and also a lecturer from a renowned college of science. His talk involved how remote sensing in India has developed from time to time, which was clearly understood by everyone. Thank you so much Shrini and Sahu for taking your time and teaching us new things.

Next I would like to thank our Principal because of whom this seminar was possible. He organised this event, and enabled us to learn new things about technology, and also about our country. Our vice principal also played the role of a backbone to us, and helped in the organisation of this talk.

A special thanks goes to our teachers Rahul Jaiswal and Richa Toppo, who took the responsibility of this seminar to be a success. They invited delegate teachers to show their presence, and also motivated us students to be a participant in this seminar.

Today, almost 200 students participated from different schools upon invitation. This made this seminar a grand success as it was able to attract the attention of all the curious, and motivated students who are willing to learn and explore.

Learning is always a good opportunity to feed our mind, as it helps us grow. Through such informative seminars we get a chance to boost our knowledge with an unique opportunity to dive into a field of subject that might be unfamiliar to us. So I would like to take my time in thanking our dear audience, who not only took their time out to be a part of us, but also cheered and motivated us to keep moving.

As we can see that we have a diverse group of students, and this seminar succeeded in providing a holistic and multidisciplinary perspective to Remote sensing, by using real photography, work experience, and selection process for a Remote sensing scientist in ISRO. It definitely was a blessing to have intellectual minds with us, and get to know their thinking process.

The moment has arrived when I am standing in front of you all to deliver my speech on my final day at college. When I was preparing myself for this day, I had planned a lot of imaginary speeches about my relationship, my learning, my experience with my teachers and college mates, the time spent in the cafeteria, in the canteen and many more such things. But now, when the actual moment has arrived, I can’t think of anything else except the two words, that is, “Thank You”!

I can’t tell you how enriching my last 10 years have been here…(college name). I started my class as a pre-nursery student. I was a bit nervous and fearful at first. But gradually I realized how lucky I am to make friends who were always by my side and teachers who always were supportive and cheerful. I cannot forget the day when my friends organized my secret birthday party after college hours.

To date, these are those people who have helped me in every sphere in my life either it is sharing tiffin, helping in homework or driving me home when my cycle got punctured.

I would like to thank all of them and especially the Principal, who is like a mother to me who forgives me when I make mistakes. She always motivated me like a daughter when I was disheartened and for everything she has done for me till date.

Apart from giving me an enriching experience, all my teachers and friends have given me some real assets in the form of sisterhood and have me touch inspiration and competition to succeed. On a lighter note, I always worked harder to score better because of them.

I would also like to mention the name of the team who always gave me support from the backend. I had trouble on different occasions by asking for complicated problems, however, by besties provided me with that. Thank you guys, you have greatly contributed to my success so far.

Your generosity and kindness toward our committee has been overwhelming, and we would be nothing without you,” try: “Mr. Ajay, our committee is so grateful to you for letting us use your classroom to practice when we had nowhere else.

3. Call back to a specific moment from the event and respond to it

Show the guest speaker that you were actively listening by referencing something they said that stuck with you. In a few sentences, mention an idea a participant brought up and point out its relevance to the event’s overall themes. If you can, talk to the speaker ahead of time to find out what points they’re going to make.

“Dr. John tips for befriending bullies really stuck out to me because it reminded me that our club’s goal is to spread kindness.”

Step 3: Concluding Your Vote of Thanks

1. Underscore your organization’s value.

3. Thank everyone again.

When you’re giving a speech, your conclusion should summarize your main points. In this case, you’re thanking people for helping your event happen. As you wrap up, address the entire audience with a big “thank you” because they all came together to make the day a success.

4. Speak for about 2 to 4 minutes.

A thank you speech or appreciation speech prepared and given with sincerity means a lot to those you acknowledge.

When we achieve, we usually do so because others have helped. Your speech of appreciation is the gift or acknowledgment you give in return for what was given you.

When is a thank you speech appropriate?

Any time is good to say thank you! However, a more formal speech of thanks could fit any of these occasions.

Be prepared! Best practice guidelines

Generally the decision to leap to your feet and give a thank you speech is not spontaneous. You will likely have some forewarning and time to consider exactly what you want to say and who you want to mention.

Deciding on the content

Cover these three content areas and you'll be fine.

WHO are you thanking? Note their names in ranking order- the most important first.
WHAT are you thanking them for? Be specific rather than general. Naming what you are grateful for gives your thanks more meaning.
WHAT did their gift of time, expertise, encouragement, money... mean to you? Again, be specific. This is your chance to publicly give credit where it's due, to compliment, to praise. Take it.

Writing your speech

When you've sorted out who you wish to mention and what for, you are ready to begin writing.

Like any other form of speech you need 3 parts:- an opening, the body or middle where you put all your acknowledgments, and a conclusion.

1. Introduction/opening

In your introduction or opening give the reason for the occasion and why it is you're going to thank everyone. What you say, and how you say it, will set the tone for the remainder of the speech.

Depending on the number of people on your 'thank you/appreciation' list and the amount of time you have, consider including a small story about the lead-up making this event possible. A well-chosen personal anecdote will always go down well because it lets those listening share your experience more deeply.

In the body of your speech, start at the top of your list of people to thank and work your way through it. Take care to give the most important people the most time.

For those whom you want to mention but don't have enough time to make individual acknowledgments consider grouping them according to function.

Example: "To Alex, Mary, Judy and Sam, thank you for making me remember to laugh. You helped me keep my sanity and perspective when the going was tough."

3. Conclusion

In the conclusion, summarize your main points and finish.

Sample thank you speech for receiving an award

Here's a short sample thank you speech for you to see how it could be done. There are many ways covering the required content. This is one.

The person giving this speech is thanking an organization for giving him an award.

It is 374 words long. When spoken it will take approximately 2 minutes + to deliver. That's about the right length. It's brief and covers everything needed.

As you read it through imagine hearing it out loud.

"Who's considered the incredible power of thank you? Those two words express gratitude, humility, understanding, as well as acknowledgement.

I am here with you: my family, many of my friends and colleagues because I need to say all of that, and then some more.

Thank you for coming to share my being given the Fred Smith Award for Community Service. It's very humbling.

There's a phrase I'm sure you know: it takes a village to raise a child. In this case it's not a child that's been raised but awareness and a long needed community resource - the Parksville Community Literacy Center. The village behind it and me, is you.

In particular thank you to my wife Marlene who has always understood and shared my conviction that communities are healthiest when its resources are equally shared, and that the ability to read underpins long term social and economic well being.

I know the hours I spent after work helping to establish our new Center tested her, especially when I was home late, again.

Remarkably she continues to support, and love me. For that I will always be grateful.

Mary Hill, Catherine Beech and Matthew Fall from the Fred Smith Foundation – thank you for sharing the vision of an integrated community and for being so incredibly supportive. You understood what we were trying to achieve and helped make it possible. Your generous gifts of time, expertise and funds are deeply appreciated.

This award may have my name on it, but in truth it belongs to everybody who has worked to make the center a reality. Have you got a spare day or two? If I called out all those people we'd be here for quite some time! Instead, I'll simply say thank you. You know who you are.

The time and effort you've given ensures that the Parksville people who want it will have access to effective literacy programs and resources. That is a priceless gift. As Nobel Peace Prize winner former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan said “Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.”

Thank you for the award and thank you on behalf of all those who will cross that bridge to a brighter future."

Tips to help you get your thank you speech right

Many people make the assumption that once they've got the words of their speech sorted, they're set to go.

That's not true! Practice completes the process.

Giving yourself several rehearsals, firstly by yourself and then in front of friends or family, will help enormously. Click the link for detailed information about how to rehearse effectively .

For the condensed and shortened version covering good rehearsal practice follow the points below.

1. Content check

Before investing too much time and energy into rehearsing your speech say it through in front of a few trusted friends or colleagues. It is much, much easier to change text prior to practicing it than after you've begun working with it. Ask them to listen:

to make sure you've included everyone you should, in the right order and thanked them for the right things.
for tone. Does the vocabulary fit the occasion? Are the stories right? Is the speech positive? Is it inclusive?

Edit as needed, and then have your test audience listen again.

Getting the timing right is an essential part of making it a success. Go on too long and people stop listening. Be too brief and there's a danger you've missed things out.

The only way to find out how long your speech is, is to time yourself as you say it out loud at a normal speaking rate. If it's too long, look for areas you can cut. Maybe you need to group a few more people together or perhaps you need to shorten some of the specific examples about why it is you're thanking someone. If it's too short, add more detail. Repeat until you get the length right.

3. Use cue cards

If you're at all worried about forgetting things, losing your place or muddling what you want to say, use cue cards. They'll take the anxiety away.

Write the main points of your thank you speech on cue cards. Good notes will keep you on track while ensuring you cover everything you want to like, for instance, the name of every person you want to thank and why.

Katie Britt’s Republican response to Joe Biden’s State of the Union address drew reactions ranging from the baffled to the satirical to the appalled, even among fellow rightwingers.

“What the hell am I watching right now?” an unnamed Trump adviser told Rolling Stone.

“It’s one of our biggest disasters ever,” another unnamed Republican strategist told the Daily Beast.

Delivering the official State of the Union response can be a thankless task, as the former Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and the Florida senator Marco Rubio , deliverers of previously panned speeches, would ruefully attest.

Nonetheless, the 42-year-old Alabama senator is a rising Republican star, widely respected on Capitol Hill and her selection to respond to Biden was a golden opportunity to introduce herself to the wider American electorate.

In his address Biden used his bully pulpit effectively, attacking Republicans in a fiery speech and inviting a strong response . But Britt’s speech, delivered with overt theatricality, oscillating in tone between the wholesome and the wholly horrific, did not land well even in her own party.

Charlie Kirk, founder of the far-right Turning Point USA youth group, said : “I’m sure Katie Britt is a sweet mom and person, but this speech is not what we need. Joe Biden just declared war on the American right and Katie Britt is talking like she’s hosting a cooking show, whispering about how Democrats ‘dont get it’.”

That pointed to widespread confusion over the setting for such a figure to give such an important speech: a kitchen.

As a Gallup poll showed 57% of American voters think the US would be better off if more women were in elected office, Alyssa Farah Griffin, a Trump aide turned never-Trumper, said : “Senator Katie Britt is a very impressive person … I do not understand the decision to put her in a KITCHEN for one of the most important speeches she’s ever given.”

Speaking to CNN, Griffin added : “The staging of this was bizarre to me. Women can be both wives and mothers and also stateswomen, so to put her in a kitchen, not at a podium or in the Senate chamber where she was elected after running a hard-fought race, I think fell very flat and was completely confusing to some women watching it.”

Allie Beth Stuckey , host of the Relatable podcast, which “analyses culture, news and politics from a biblical perspective”, said : “Ok, GOP. Never again. I know y’all were going for the relatable mom speaking in her kitchen from her heart, but it didn’t work. Just a straight, strong speech will do in the future. Thanks.”

Kirk asked followers if they liked the speech. Blue-ticked conservative verdicts included “Man, it was so disappointing”, “No, very babysitter-reading-a-bedtime story-like”, “way too dramatic”, and “the up and down emotion was bizarre”.

Among satirical responses, Tom Nichols, an anti-Trump conservative columnist, spoke for many when he said : “There is no way that this Katie Britt address does not end up as part of the Saturday Night Live cold open.”

Elsewhere, the gonzo filmmaker Tom Arnold said : “Katie Britt is so bad she couldn’t be in one of my movies.”

Julia Ioffe, Washington correspondent for Puck News, said : “Imagine you’re sleeping over at a friend’s house and you get up in the middle of the night to pee and you hear a weird sound so you follow it to the kitchen, where your friend’s mom is drunk, crying, and rambling about the national debt. Those are the vibes from Katie Britt right now.”

From the other side of the political spectrum, however, the gun control advocate Shannon Watts highlighted a darker side to Britt’s performance, as expressed in a particularly lurid passage.

With wavering voice, the senator described meeting a migrant woman who she said described being “sex trafficked by the cartels starting at the age of 12” and who, Britt said, spoke of being repeatedly raped “on a mattress in a shoebox of a room”.

Watts said : “Senator Katie Britt says sexual assault is the worst thing that can happen to a woman while encouraging Americans to vote for a convicted sexual predator.”

Last month, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, was ordered to pay $83.3m in a civil defamation case arising from a rape allegation a judge said was “substantially true”. Accused of sexual assault or misconduct by more than 20 other women, Trump also faces trial this month on 34 charges arising from hush-money payments to an adult film star who claimed an affair.

Britt endorsed Trump last December.

Sen. Katie Britt attempts to clean up her misleading State of the Union response

Alabama GOP Sen. Katie Britt on Sunday responded to allegations that her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address was misleading.

The criticism centers on a story Britt told about a victim of human trafficking, which she implied happened during Biden’s tenure.

Britt spoke in her Thursday-night speech about visiting the U.S.-Mexico border in 2023 and speaking to this woman.

“She had been sex-trafficked by the cartels starting at age 12. She told me not just that she was raped every day, but how many times a day she was raped,” Britt said in her response to the State of the Union.

“We wouldn’t be OK with this happening in a Third World country. This is the United States of America, and it is past time, in my opinion, that we start acting like it,” she added. “President Biden’s border crisis is a disgrace.”

Shortly after the address, a viral social media post by journalist Jonathan Katz looked more closely at the story and noted that the trafficking did not happen during Biden’s presidency, or even in the United States; it happened during the administration of President George W. Bush, in Mexico.

On “Fox News Sunday,” Britt did not acknowledge making any mistake or leaving a wrong impression.

She was asked whether she meant to give the impression that the story she told about a victim of human trafficking happened during Biden’s tenure.

“No,” Britt answered, adding later: “I very clearly said I spoke to a woman who told me about when she was trafficked when she was 12, so I didn’t say a teenager. I didn’t say a young woman, a grown woman, a woman when she was trafficked when she was 12.”

She doubled down on her Thursday statement that Biden “didn’t just create this border crisis. He invited it with 94 executive actions in his first 100 days.”

“I very specifically said this is what President Biden did during his first 100 days. Minutes after coming into office he stopped all deportations, he halted construction of the border wall,” she said Sunday. (The Biden administration attempted to institute a 100-day pause on mass deportations after taking office, but that moratorium was later halted by a judge .)

Though Britt did not offer the victim’s name in her speech Thursday, a spokesperson for her office told The Washington Post that she was referring to Karla Jacinto Romero, a trafficking victims’ rights advocate who testified before Congress in 2015 about what happened to her as a girl.

Britt’s office did not respond to a request for comment from NBC News on Saturday.

The White House shot back at the Republican senator, accusing Britt of relying on “debunked lies” to attack Biden.

“Instead of telling more debunked lies to justify opposing the toughest bipartisan border legislation in modern history, Senator Britt should stop choosing human smugglers and fentanyl traffickers over our national security and the Border Patrol Union,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement. “Like President Biden said in his State of the Union, ‘We have a simple choice: We can fight about fixing the border or we can fix it.’”

In her 2015 congressional testimony, Jacinto Romero told lawmakers through an interpreter, “For more than four years of my life from the age of 12 ... I fell prey to a professional pimp who, after three months of wooing and me treating me as a princess, propped me up on a corner and forced me to work the streets for his own gain. For years and years, I was coerced, intimidated, threatened, beaten, robbed of my children and emotionally and sexually violated time and time again.”

Jacinto Romero was 22 at the time of her testimony, meaning the experience she described began roughly a decade earlier.

Britt met Jacinto Romero in January 2023 during a trip to the Del Rio sector of the U.S.-Mexico border, where she was accompanied by Fox News contributor Sara Carter, former Mexican politician and victims advocate Rosa María de la Garza Ramírez, and GOP Sens. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi.

On an episode of “The Sara Carter Show” released the same day as the trip, Carter said she introduced Jacinto Romero to the senators, telling listeners, “She talked very vividly and candidly with lawmakers ... about what was happening to her, about people buying her.”

Republicans have long criticized Biden’s handling of the border, arguing that the president has been ineffective at stopping the rampant migrant crossings along the southern border. The Biden administration has countered that Congress has been unwilling to step up to the plate since the bipartisan border deal fell apart , and the president is reportedly considering taking executive action to deter migration.

Katie Britt’s kitchen-table rebuttal to State of the Union baffles GOP

Sitting in front of a kitchen done in shades of beige, with a couple of family photos, a faucet and a fruit bowl visible in the background, Sen. Katie Boyd Britt (R-Ala.) delivered the Republican Party’s rebuttal to President Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday night.

The kitchen was among several elements of her speech that drew criticism ranging from baffled to mocking — not just from Democrats, but from Republicans who said the setting undermined Britt’s stature as a senator and questioned her halting, theatrical delivery. The speech swiftly began drawing jokes and parodies .

“Senator Katie Britt is a very impressive person,” conservative commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin wrote on X . “I do not understand the decision to put her in a *KITCHEN* for one of the most important speeches she’s ever given.”

“This speech is not what we need,” said Charlie Kirk, founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA. “Joe Biden just declared war on the American right and Katie Britt is talking like she’s hosting a cooking show.”

Britt, a 42-year-old freshman senator with longtime experience on Capitol Hill, was chosen to deliver the rebuttal as a figure representative of the next generation of congressional Republicans. She also focused on immigration, crime and the economy and sought to remind viewers of Biden’s age.

A senator from Alabama and a mother, she was also a clear choice for delivering the message to viewers that Republicans support IVF — days after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos should be considered children, a move that sparked a national backlash for its threat to in vitro fertilization procedures. In her speech, Britt did not defend the ruling but instead tried to reassure viewers that Republicans support IVF, without noting that dozens of GOP lawmakers have backed a bill that would define life as beginning “at conception” without protections for IVF.

But with her performance, during which her dramatic tones and pauses appeared to differ from her usual way of speaking, she joined the ranks of speakers whose State of the Union responses have gone down in history as missteps. In 2009, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was panned for his response to President Barack Obama’s speech. And in 2013, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) memorably sipped bottled water during his rebuttal.

“Not sure whose genius idea it was to put a U.S. Senator in the kitchen to deliver the response to the [State of the Union],” Republican pollster Christine Matthews said in a social media post Friday morning.

Matthews noted that, in panels she has conducted over the past decade with women swing voters, ads featuring women speaking about health care in the kitchen “just sets women voters off.”

“Instead of the relatable look they were going for here — given the rollback of reproductive rights and the IVF fiasco — it sends the message that Republicans are literally trying to send women back to the kitchen,” Matthews added.

A spokesman for Britt did not immediately respond to a request from The Washington Post. Some members of Britt’s party praised her performance, including Donald Trump , the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who applauded her on Truth Social, writing, “Great job Katie!”

“Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, ‘President,’” Trump wrote .

This was the third consecutive year that Republicans chose a woman to give the rebuttal, and showing viewers a young White mother at home appeared to be a clear strategy targeting female voters. An ally of Britt’s sent talking points to conservatives suggesting reactions to the speech before it occurred, the New York Times reported , in a memo that suggested that Britt “came off like America’s mom — she gets it.”

In his post, Trump made sure to point out that Britt “was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women’s Issues.” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) highlighted Britt’s address as “speaking directly to parents and families across the nation.”

Many concluded that the tactic had not worked. Griffin, speaking on CNN, said it was “confusing” to women watching.

“Women can be both wives and mothers and also stateswomen,” Griffin said. “So to put her in a kitchen, not in front of a podium or in the Senate chamber, where she was elected after winning a hard-fought race, I think fell very flat.”

Meanwhile, Democrats called out GOP stances on reproductive rights and other women’s issues, which Britt defended in her speech. Many pointed out Thursday the irony of Britt decrying the reported sexual assault and trafficking of a woman whose story she told in the speech, while having endorsed Trump, who was found by a jury to have sexually abused and raped writer E. Jean Carroll.

“Sen Katie Britt says sexual assault is the worst thing that can happen to a woman while encouraging Americans to vote for a convicted sexual predator,” Shannon Watts, founder of the gun-control group Moms Demand Action, wrote on X .

Democrats also noted that, under Alabama’s abortion ban — one of the strictest in the country, with no exceptions for rape or incest — a rape victim would be forced to carry their rapist’s baby to term.

And while Britt was highly critical of the Biden administration’s immigration policies, Democrats pointed out that she was among the Republican senators who helped negotiate a bipartisan border security deal — but then ultimately voted against it after Trump signaled to congressional Republicans that no immigration policy should pass during the election year.

Meanwhile, some Republicans worried that the speech hadn’t had its intended effect in reaching female voters, particularly in suburban swing districts.

Allie Beth Stuckey, host of the Christian conservative podcast “Relatable,” praised the kitchen setting but called the speech “a real missed opportunity.” She noted on X that Britt was in the difficult spot of needing to seem relatable, likable, and “happy, but not too happy … upset, but not too emotional.”

“But the delivery was parody-level terrible,” Stuckey said , “and I promise that didn’t sway any of those suburban moms we’re trying to reach.”
