'தில்லுக்கு துட்டு, தில்லுக்கு துட்டு 2' ஆகிய படங்களை இயக்கிய ராம்பாலா தான் இந்தப் படத்தின் இயக்குனர். அவரா இப்படி ஒரு படத்தை இயக்கினார் என ஆச்சரியமாக உள்ளது. முந்தைய இரண்டு படங்களிலும் படம் முழுவதும் சிரிக்க வைத்திருப்பார். இந்தப் படத்தில் எங்கோ ஒரு சில இடங்களில் மட்டுமே சிரிக்க வைக்கிறார்.

ஒரு விபத்தில் சிக்கி மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு மனநல மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சைக்குச் சேர்க்கப்படுகிறார் மிர்ச்சி சிவா. அதே மருத்துவமனையில் இருக்கும் நிக்கி கல்ரானி மீது அவருக்குக் காதல். அந்த மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்று வரும் சூனியக்காரி அக்ஷரா கவுடா, நிக்கியைக் கடத்தி தனது காதலனுடன் ஒன்று சேர முயற்சிக்கிறார். இன்னொரு பக்கம் நிக்கியைக் கடத்தி அவரது அப்பாவிடம் பணம் பறிக்க முயல்கிறார் ரவிமரியா. இவர்களை அனைவரும் ஒரு பேய் பங்களாவுக்குள் செல்ல வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை. அங்கு அடுத்து நடக்கும் சம்பவங்கள்தான் படத்தின் மீதிக் கதை. மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட இளைஞரான மிர்ச்சி சிவா. அவ்வப்போது அவர் அடிக்கும் 'ஒன்லைன்' காமெடிகள் தான் படத்தை ஓரளவு காப்பாற்றுகிறது. இடைவேளைக்குப் பிறகு அவரும் திடீர் திடீரென காணாமல் போய்விடுகிறார். நாயகனான அவரைச் சுற்றிக் கதை நகராமல், நிக்கியைக் கடத்தும் ரவி மரியாவைச் சுற்றி நகர்கிறது. மனநல மருத்துவராக நிக்கி கல்ரானி. அதே மனநல மருத்துவமனையில் இருக்கும் சூனியக்காரி அக்ஷரா கவுடா, சிகிச்சை பெறும் ரெடின் கிங்ஸ்லி ஆகியோர் திரைக்கதை நகர்வதற்கு உதவியாக இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். பின்னர் அவர்களுடன் ரவி மரியா, மயில்சாமி ஆகியோரும் சேர்ந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். ஒருவரைச் சுற்றி மட்டும் திரைக்கதை நகராமல் அடுத்தடுத்து அனைவருக்குமே காட்சிகளைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனந்த்ராஜ் ஆரம்பத்தில் நன்றாக சிரிக்க வைக்கிறார். அவரது மனைவியாக ஊர்வசி. இவர்களைச் சுற்றி கதையை நகர்த்தியிருந்தால் கூட சுவாரசியமாக இருந்திருக்கும். இடைவேளைக்குப் பின் பேய் பங்களாவுக்குள் தொடர்ந்து கதை சுற்றுகிறது. சிறு குழந்தைகள் ரசிக்கும் அளவிற்குத்தான் குழந்தைத்தனமான காமெடி காட்சிகளை வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஒரு பேய்ப் படத்தில் 'டெம்ப்ளேட்' ஆக என்ன காட்சிகள் இருக்குமோ அது அனைத்துமே படத்தில் இருக்கிறது. எதையோ எடுத்து, என்னமோ செய்து, ஒரு படமாகக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது மட்டும் புரிகிறது. இடியட் - யாரா இருக்கும் ?

Idiot Movie Review: The joke is on us

Rating: ( 1.5 / 5).

What is easier made than consumed? If you guessed Upma, my heart goes out to you. I think the answer is Tamil horror-comedies! The genre in a way has its similarities with the widely dreaded dish, including a bland taste and urgent preparation. Director: Rambhala Cast: Shiva , Nikki Galrani , Redin Kingsly, Anandraj, Urvashi Idiot , the newest entry into the horror-comedy league, doesn't take itself seriously. One might wonder if it is a good sign for a comedy, but the problem here is that the film doesn't take its audience seriously as well. I understand the intention of the Lollu Sabha creator Rambhala is to deliver a 'a-joke-a-minute experience', but the effort and thought behind that celebrated show is missing here. For instance, Shiva, who suffers from mental illness, looks at a dolled up Nikki and asks, " Neenga use panra powder bleaching powder dhana? " In another scene, Redin squeezes into the back of a car and says, " Lorry kula yeriten! " These unfunny attempts are just the tip of the iceberg. Rambhala bombards us with such thoughtless scenes set in the psychiatry ward, making us wonder if we ought to look for a therapist ourselves.

Though Idiot has several ideas that propel the screenplay, it doesn't have a cohesive plot. While making 'daring' moves like this, a filmmaker must ensure that the randomness on-screen amounts to some kind of fun or thrill, but here, only the team of Idiot seems to be having a great time unlike us.

Shiva is an actor who has carved a unique style for himself in deadpan comedy. His jokes usually land when he doesn't try too hard. But here, the occasional laughter vanishes once he becomes an asylum inmate and tries to 'act'.  On the other hand, we just feel sad for the female actors, Nikki and Akshara. They feel so out of place in the haphazard narrative and it feels like they are equally uninterested in the proceedings like us.

Representation of asylums has forever been an issue in our cinema. We either portray them as fun circuses or cruel torture chambers; they are nowhere in between. Rambhala opts for the former and in an attempt to do so, he portrays most of his characters with mental illness as perverts cracking double entendres. Things hit a new low when one of the male inmates dresses up in a dhavani and does horrible dance moves to a song. Scenes like these are highly insulting to both the LGBTQIA+ community and people suffering from mental illness.

It is a common sight in our country to see people protesting against films when they have their doubts. We saw a group of Christians suing Mani Ratnam for Kadal , Rajputs objecting to Padmaavat and Muslims requesting a ban on Vishwaroopam . It is quite unsettling how these films, which got the representation right, went through so much turmoil while a film that hints at calling people with mental illness 'idiots', stays happily out of problems.

Mirchi shiva's idiot movie review - film directed by ram bhala.

Mirchi Shiva, who is known for his quality comedy entertainers, is back after a hiatus with Idiot which has released in theatres today. The film is directed by Rambhala of Dhilluku Dhuddu and Lollu Sabha fame. This horror-comedy features Nikki Galrani as the female lead, alongside Redin Kingsley, Anandaraj, Urvashi, Ravi Mariya, RNR Manohar, Akshara Gowda in supporting roles. STORY: Smitha (Nikki Galrani), a psychiatrist doctor, is kidnapped into a haunted bungalow and Chinrasu (aka) Paandi (Mirchi Shiva), her patient, is off to her rescue. There's also a gang of four goons who are inside the bungalow, along with a few ghosts. Was Smitha rescued safely from the evil forces is what Idiot is about.

The writing is also ultimately bad. Rambhala is known for his humorous writing and we've seen it many times in the past, but with Idiot, the magic is missing. Not even a single character in the film makes any sense and you're just taken through a series of mindless scenes that just makes you yawn. When we say mindless, it obviously tells you that the film has zero logic and clumsy writing. It looks like the film has been titled Idiot because the film is filled with idiotic characters that make no sense. Idiot did have the potential to work as a solid comedy entertainer, as the idea of mentally-challenged people meeting ghosts is interesting, but the uninspired writing and bad execution make it a flat film.

  Idiot desperately tries to make you laugh with its dialogues and there is no space for silence in the film. Towards the end of the film, Mirchi Shiva says, "Ivlo Neram Namma uyira eduthadhu ivaru dhan" and the camera then pans across to director Ram Bhala, and we couldn't agree more. CAST: Mirchi Shiva is quite good in a role that is a cakewalk for him. Redin Kingsley helps with a few laughs here and there. Anandaraj is comparatively better among the other supporting cast. Nikki Galrani, Urvashi, Ravi Mariya, Mayilsamy, and others are okay in their respective roles. TECHNICAL: Idiot is a weak film on the technical side, as well. Vikram Selva's music is unsatisfactory, while the cinematography (by Raja Bhattacharjee) is shoddy in many places. The cuts also lack finesse. SO? Mirchi Shiva tries his best to save the film, but fails, because of a lacklustre execution!

Verdict: Idiot is nothing but a comedy of errors - a total misfire!

Uh huh . . . horror comedy again. Tamil film maker’s perseverance for horror comedy seems like an affair that is not so easy to end. Idiot opens this month’s share of horror comedy. Two staffs working in a royal family delude the members of the family in to committing suicide to rob their wealth, their progenies are left to suffer the consequences of their action. Actor Shiva who was last seen in Thamizh Padam 2 which hit the screens in the year 2018 is back to business after nearly 4 years with his horror comedy Idiot . Actress Nikki Galrani plays the female lead. Director Rambhala has helmed the drama. So, how has the flick come out? Is it solid enough to bring back actor Shiva to the winning zone? To know that let us get into the movie review.

The entertainer depicts the life of Chinnarasu (Shiva). Sethupathi and Senathipathi work for a royal family. They become covetous of the family’s wealth and devise a plan to betray the family to swindle their wealth. So, they set up a ruse and get the family members to commit suicide. Decades forward, Sethupathi’s son Raasu Gounder ( Anandaraj ) is an inept leader who calls the shots in his village. His son Chinnarasu (Shiva) loathes him and they do not have a functional relationship. He comes around spending time lethargically with his friends. Things go haywire when he takes part in a Kabbadi tournament which his father despises. Raasu Gounder kicks him out of the house. Raged Chinnarasu gets drunk, and comes home asking for his share of the ancestral property that his grandfather looted from the royal family. Raasu Gounder hands over the key to the palace to Chinnarasu. Despite being warned not to set foot in the castle, Chinnarasu takes the key and rushes to the place. But meets with an accident on the way and becomes an amnesiac. 

As a play of fate, Senathipathi’s granddaughter Smitha ( Nikki Galrani ), runs a psychiatric clinic. Chinnarasu, who has lost his memory, is admitted to the hospital. In order to address him, he is named as Paandi in the institution. Yes, the heroine is in the picture, so what’s next? Time for some romance. Chinnarasu falls in love with her. But Smitha merely takes him as her patience who has lost his memory. One day, Smitha’s father presents her a ring that her grandfather stole from the royal family. She wears it. Shortly after that, things get spooky. On that night, she is strangled by the ghost of the royal family. But she gets lucky as the ring slips itself from her finger. (Ghosts of Tamil cinema are very rules-abiding. They take revenge only when people are in possession of their belongings, you see.) A game of thieving is played with this ring in the hospital. Meanwhile, there is a gang waiting to kidnap Smitha. Before they could, the ghosts abduct her and take her to the palace. 

The gang of kidnappers, the ghosts, Chinnarasu and his parents, and Smitha all end up inside the palace. What will happen to them is what makes the rest of the flick. 

It is hard to go looking for sense in films like Idiot. But the question is, is the film entertaining after we shake hands to turn off the analytical part of our brain. The problem is, filmmaker Rambhala’s Idiot does not. What are the two major components that constitute a comedy? Situation and reaction (either expressions or quirky comical lines delivered with timing) to it. Director Rambhala has got the one side of the coin right. He shows his dexterity in setting up situations with so much scope to draw out comedy. Be it the situations in the hospital, the play he tries to do with the ring, and the portions inside the ghost bungalow. 

However, he could not capitalize on what he shaped as his writing duds. His writing of the comedy is so weak that his characters look clueless on screen. It is like setting up a magnificent stage and sending in the artists without a script to perform. Even with so many comedians on board, Idiot finds it difficult to crack as a minimum, a handful of genuine comedies. Comedians try hard to infuse laughter into the flow but the more they try the more infuriating they come forth. The director himself seems to have realized this and he tries to turn Idiot into a spoof entertainer. If at least he had stayed the course, perhaps Idiot could have been a little tolerable.  

Actor Shiva brings forth his natural strength of making even bad jokes sound better but director Rambhala’s writing makes his job so difficult for him. Actress Nikki Galrani in the typical ‘loosu ponnu’ character of Tamil cinema. Nevertheless, she does it well. Veteran actress Urvashi is effective as usual. Actor Anandaraj is functional. Actress Akshara Gowda is adequate. Comedians Mayilsamy, Singamuthu, Ravi Mariya, Redin Kingsley, Crane Manohar, and R. N. R. Manohar does not live up to the purpose of their existence in the film. The rest of the cast has delivered an average performance. 

On the technical front, music director Vikram Selva’s tracks do not last in our memory for too long. Even his background score is middling. Cinematographer Raja Bhattacharjee should have done a better job in covering the drama. Editor Gingee Madhavan has not clipped out the shortcomings in the work of his colleague. 

On the whole, actor Shiva tries hard to steer home an engine broken-down ship but, in the end, he sinks along with it.

Rasu and his son Chinnarasu live in a small village, Veerapandiyan. Rasu is the village head. Smitha is a psychiatrist whose ancestors grabbed properties from a royal family. In an accident, Chinnarasu loses his mental stability and is taken to Smitha’s hospital. Soon, Chinnarasu falls for Smitha. Meanwhile, Neelakandi, a witch, searches for Smitha to kill her as she wants to revive her lover. Soon, they all land in a Zameen land, where they witness bizarre incidents. Star Performance

Shiva is best at his part, as usual. The fans always loved his cinematic non-expressions right from his debut film. His witty dialogues and body language are good. The rest of the stars, including Anandaraj and Ravi Maria, are decent with the given roles.

Idiot movie review

Story: The movie starts off with two subordinates Sethupathi and Senapathi betraying a royal family.

Several years later, Siva and Nikki Galrani – descendants of Sethupathi and Senapathi land in a haunted mansion together along with their family.

What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Analysis: The story of Idiot is nothing different from the usual ghost films that we see in Kollywood.

However, it is the presentation by director Ram Bala which keeps the proceedings interesting.

The chemistry between Rambala and Siva has worked out big time.

The timing of the comedy and the humour sense are big plus to the movie. Siva as usual shines with his own way of acting and evokes laughter.

The combination scenes between Siva and Anandraj are a riot. Ram Bala has also subtly made some contemporary political references.

Nikki Galrani has done her part well. Rest of the cast including Redin Kingsly have delivered what was expected from them. Music by Vikram Selva is apt for the film.

Raja Battacharji’s camerwork is impressive.
