Pokemon Legends Arceus Research Tasks

The Research Tasks in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are Tasks/Mini-Quests that, when completed, increase your Rank as a team member of the Galaxy Expedition Team and also flesh out details in your Pokedex for the Pokemon you complete said Tasks on. These Tasks range from; catching Pokemon, observing the moves it uses, defeating them with certain moves, etc. Completing these Tasks, as said before, increases your Rank on the Team, which gives you access to new areas for more exploration. We will include a list of the different types of Research Tasks found in PLA.

Professor Oak wanted young trainers to catch 150 Pokemon and call it a day. Professor Rowan, a real charmer, didn't mind if you simply looked at them. And Professor Juniper, well, she pretty much did what the rest of them did, but at least she was funny.

Everything's gone and changed in Pokemon Legends: Arceus . No one's going to be satisfied with a simple catch, let alone a cozy glance from afar. Research Tasks form one of this game's core gameplay pillars, and without a solid understanding of just much more complex Hisui's Pokedex is, new players will soon find themselves as overwhelmed as the Survey Corps prior to a certain fortuitous fall from the sky.

Continuing the forced references to past games, think about all the data that suddenly pops into your previous Pokedexes. You catch one Abra, and all of a sudden, its information page is a veritable wellspring of information. There's a trivia bit and plenty more.

This makes sense. After all, most of the time you're not actually the first person to encounter a particular species of Pokemon. Your Pokedex already has some behind-the-scenes scoops on Phantump's disturbing nocturnal activities — it simply won't show up until you've caught one.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you are a true pioneer . Sure, the player character isn't necessarily the very first person to lay eyes on Hisui's fauna, but they aren't far off from it. People are generally afraid of Pokemon here, so your Pokedex is a legitimately blank slate this time around.

That's where Research Tasks come in. First contact with a species of Pokemon adds a page to the book — a real book, mind you, not some gadget — and that page will task you with several assignments related to each and every Pokemon there is.

Raising the Research Level for every Pokemon's page is a matter of completing the page's Research Tasks. It's straightforward in theory; but in practice, it can be a challenge.

Take Shinx's Research Tasks page, for example. Catching and battling a specified number of them is time-consuming, but a broad enough request that you won't need to pay a ton of attention while you're doing it. But what about the need to see one use Bite up to 25 times? Waiting for wild Shinx (Shinxes? Shinxi?) to use that attack can be an exercise in frustration, given that enemy Pokemon tend to hit a fair bit harder in this game than past entries.

On the other hand, if you'll be catching and evolving some lovely little lions anyway, and given that they learn Bite at an early level, why not spam it against weak prey until you're finished? The game rewards outside-the-box thinking like this. In this case, it didn't matter that the Shinx performing the attack is yours. The people of Hisui are just that fresh to seeing pretty much anything of the sort.

This hardly scratches the surface of some of Pokemon Legends: Arceus' most obscure Research Tasks. For another early-game example, one of Geodude's Research Tasks involves watching them leap out of ore deposits a set amount of times. The key here is to keep an eye out for rustling ore deposits. No, it's not the game's uneven graphics playing a trick on you. That's a Geodude doing exactly what you need it to do.

Your primitive Pokedex won't magically reward you for completing Research Tasks. Instead, you must speak with Professor Laventon at the conclusion of survey expeditions . (A survey expedition is a fancy term for every time you venture out into one of Hisui's regions and have some fun for a bit.)

Laventon calculates your achievements if you take a sec to chat him up at camp. These achievements earn you Research Points , which must reach predetermined totals before Laventon shares the good news that you're due for a promotion.

Go let Captain Cyllene know the good news and your Star Rank will rise accordingly. Among other things, your Star Rank dictates how many of Hisui's five main regions you can survey, so it will feel like a "level gate" if you're not proactive throughout your journey.

Every Pokedex page features what is called a Research Level at its bottom-right corner. This ranges from 1 to 10, and the level rises as you fulfill more Research Tasks. There's an interesting — and appreciated — wrinkle in all this. You do not need to complete every Research Task to elevate a page's Research Level to 10 .

This is big news because 10 counts as completing the page. Many of the game's sidequests involve climbing to Research Level 10 . Take Marli, for example. She wants to see an adorable Starly. Who wouldn't? Marli also wants to know a bunch of things about Starly. You can finish Marli's sidequest (known as Requests in Legends: Arceus) by getting Starly's Pokedex page to 10.

Having said this, there are reasons to strive for truly completing each page, as in surpassing the conditions for Research Level 10 and doing absolutely every Research Task. The likelihood of encountering the Shiny version of a Pokemon increases when that Pokemon's page is entirely maxed out. A huge boon for all those Shiny hunters of the world, and still pretty cool even to folks whose goals are not so lofty as to pluck every alternate color scheme pal from the planet.

Research Tasks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus explained

To complete a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you need to complete enough Research Tasks for that Pokémon species until you've reached Research Level 10.

Each Pokémon has a dedicated Research Task list and these tasks can be anything from how many you've caught, witnessing specific moves in battle or evolving it. Certain Pokémon also have Research Tasks tied to Requests , such as investigating whether Drifloon truly plays with children.

Some Research Tasks have multiple stages, which allow you to increase an entry's Research Level by repeating the same activity. A common example of this is the 'Number Caught' task that, for some Pokémon, can increase its Research Level at least five times.

You can check a Pokémon's Research Tasks by visiting their page in your Pokédex and pressing Down. This brings up a list of all their associated tasks and your progress with them. A Pokémon's Research Tasks can also be accessed by focusing on it in the wild and pressing Down.

Your current Research Level for this Pokémon can also be found at the bottom of their entry.

During the Pokédex Progress Report at the end of every survey, you'll review which Pokédex entries you've updated or finished, along with how many Research Tasks you've completed.

How Pokédex research tasks work in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Almost every mainline Pokémon title has had the same main plot of collecting all the gym badges, becoming the league champion, and thwarting some nefarious team or organization along the way. That tried and true formula has been tossed to the wayside for Pokémon Legends: Arceus , which takes us back to the distant past of the Pokémon world where the relationships between wild monsters and trainers were still being figured out. Gyms haven’t been established yet, let alone any organized leagues for battling. Instead, the entire plot of this game is all about studying and researching Pokémon.

The ultimate goal for your trainer in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is to help gather enough data to create the very first Pokédex. This legendary tool has been a part of the Pokémon world since the first game, helping you keep track of all the different monsters you’ve encountered, details on their stats, lore, and anything else you would want to know about them. Because you’re building it for the first time, just encountering a Pokémon won’t automatically fill in the entire Pokédex. You will need to complete research tasks, but this system has a few layers that may not be apparent right away. Here’s a full breakdown of how research tasks work in Pokémon Legends: Arceus so you can make history by completing the very first Pokédex.

A brand new feature to Pokémon Legends: Arceus are research tasks. These are essentially little objectives you need to complete for each Pokémon in the Pokédex to fully complete their entry. Every single Pokémon in the game has its own list of tasks, though many will repeat, such as capturing a certain number of them, observing them using a move a number of times, evolving them, and more. Research tasks can also have multiple levels. This allows you to level up that Pokémon’s research level by repeating a task multiple times. Some research tasks even require you to complete Requests related to that Pokémon.

To view any Pokémon’s research tasks, simply open up your Pokédex and find the Pokémon you want to view the tasks for. Once there, press down on the D-pad to flip to the tab showing the list of tasks, as well as how much progress you’ve made toward completing them. The bottom of the page shows the current research level for that Pokémon. They will all start at 0, and while they can level up higher than 10, 10 is the highest level you need to reach to count their entry in the Pokédex as “complete.”

Most research tasks are self-explanatory, but checking your Pokédex is the best way to get a hint at what you need to do to level up your research levels. Number caught shows up for nearly every Pokémon, and often can be repeated a few times. Use tasks like this that can be done multiple times to help when other tasks are more difficult or random. Since you only have to get them to level 10, not every task needs to be maxed out or completed if you can substitute other ones. Each task can be done up to 5 times for at least 5 research levels.

Also, pay attention to the red arrow icons on the left side of the tasks. If a task has this symbol, completing that task will give you two levels rather than just one. If you see a task like number caught or number defeated with these arrows, then maxing out all 5 of those tasks alone can give you enough research levels to complete that Pokémon’s entry.

A great quality of life feature that Pokémon Legends: Arceus includes is that you don’t need to have caught a Pokémon before it starts tracking your progress on completing their tasks. That means that if, for example, you have yet to catch a Pokémon, but defeated it in battle a few times, gave it food, and seen it use all of its moves, all that will be tracked in the Pokédex. Even if you manage to complete enough research tasks for a Pokémon to technically complete its Pokédex entry, it won’t count as complete and will show as research level 0 until you capture it at least once. Pokémon is about catching them all, right?

Every research task you complete, and thus the more research ranks you go through, will all earn you points towards your Star Rank. You can see your current amount of research points, current Star Rank, and how many more points you need to get to the next rank on the cover of your Pokédex. Your Star Rank is your main way to track your progress through Pokémon Legends: Arceus , with each rank unlocking new items, access to new areas, and the ability to catch higher-level Pokémon. Once you have enough research points to get a new Star Rank, you need to talk to Captain Cyllene in the Galaxy Hall to officially rank up.

There are 10 total Star Ranks you will progress through in the game, and each one has its own rewards, but also will require more total research points to unlock. Here’s a quick breakdown of each Star Rank:

• First Star: Unlocks Heavy Balls, crafting recipes for Heavy Balls and Revives, and ability to control Pokémon up to level 20.
• Second Star: Unlocks Feather Balls, crafting recipes for Feather Balls and Super Potions, access to the Crimson Mirelands, and the ability to control Pokémon up to level 30.
• Third Star: Unlocks Great Balls, crafting recipes for Great Balls, access to the Cobalt Coastlands, and the ability to control Pokémon up to level 40.
• Fourth Star: Unlocks Leaden Balls, crafting recipes for Leaden Balls and Hyper Potions, access to the Coronet Highlands, and the ability to control Pokémon up to level 50.
• Fifth Star: Unlocks Wing Balls, crafting recipes for Wing Balls, access to the Alabaster Icelands, and the ability to control Pokémon up to level 65.
• Sixth Star: Unlocks Ultra Balls, crafting recipes for Ultra Balls and Max Potions, and ability to control Pokémon up to level 80.
• Seventh Star: Unlocks Gigaton Balls, crafting recipes for Gigaton Balls, and ability to control Pokémon of any level.
• Eighth Star: Unlocks Jet Balls, crafting recipes for Jet Balls and Full Restores.
• Ninth Star: Unlocks 10 Rare Candies and 20 Grit Pebbles.

Many people refer to Palworld as Pokémon with guns, but that's selling the game short. Sure, you can and will use a host of firearms to fight Pals, but the Pals themselves also have types just like their pocket monster counterparts. And just like in the game that inspired it, Pal types play a huge role in which ones are more effective against the others. Right off the bat, Palworld has nine different types. Unlike Pokémon, though, each type (with the exception of fire and neutral) is only weak and strong against one other type. That means each Pal will only be weak to one specific element, but since Pals can learn moves from other elements, they can be effective against multiple types. Getting to Work on Research Tasks is the fourth Main Mission in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The Getting to Work on Research Tasks walkthrough includes tips for story summaries, and more to help you on your journey in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Getting to Work on Research Tasks Locations

The mission Getting to Work on Research Tasks will have you travel through the following area. Click on them to learn more about them, like the Pokemon that spawn there:

• Obsidian Fieldlands

Leave Jubilife Village

The start of this mission will see you heading out to the Fieldlands Camp with Professor Laventon . As you go to leave Jubilife Village , you’ll be spoken to by Beauregard who will have a request.

Whenever someone has a task for you, they’ll have a request icon (a small marker) above them. Completing these requests will see you receive rewards.

As these requests are optional, here you can either head to the Obsidian Fieldlands to speak to Professor Laventon about research tasks, or speak to Beauregard to unlock your first request Wurmple Can Evolve .

Go to the Fieldlands Camp

Head out to Obsidian Fieldlands and speak to Professor Laventon . He’ll explain that a number of research tasks need to be carried out to complete the Pokedex .

Each Pokemon will have a number and variety of tasks for you to complete. When you open the Pokedex , press the Down Button to see which Pokemon have been registered and what research tasks are available.

If you’re in the field, you can check these tasks instantly by pressing the ZL Button to focus on a Pokemon, then the Down Button to open the Pokedex to the specific page.

Follow Akari/Rei

Akari or Rei will begin by showing you how to Dodge attacks. Press Y to do this. Follow Akari or Rei and they'll cover the basics of completing research tasks.

Here you’ll be able to try out focusing and opening the Pokedex page to the tasks for the Bidoof in front of you.

When you’re ready, catch up with Akari or Rei and open the Pokedex for the research tasks on a Starly . Here you’ll have a chance to catch up on some of the research tasks already available. Remember to crouch when approaching a Starly by pressing the B Button.

When you’re ready, catch up with Akari or Rei again to spot your first Buizel . This is another Pokemon you’ll have to fight before you can catch it.

Taking Damage in a Fight

If you take too much damage when you fight, you’ll blackout. When the screen turns red, you’re in danger!

Here you’ll learn that to complete some research tasks, you’ll need to see a Pokemon perform certain moves in battle. Approach the Buizel and throw out your Pokemon partner to begin your fight.

When you’re finished, catch up with Akari or Rei again. They'll reward you with a Crafting Kit for completing the challenges so far. This will allow you to make items even if there’s no workbench around, using the materials in your satchel. They’ll also give you the recipe for crafting Potions .

Checking Your Pokedex

You’ll be able to check the cover of your Pokedex to see when you have tasks that can be reported. Head back to Professor Laventon to submit your survey reports. This will reward you with money. Completing this research also raises the research levels of each Pokemon.

Research Levels

When you get a research level to level 10 for a Pokemon, you’ll have completed all available tasks and acquired all the information you can on this Pokemon species. Completing these tasks also gives you Pokemon research points which helps you rank up in the Galaxy Expedition Team.

You should work your way through the specific Starly and Bidoof tasks if you haven’t already done so, and report your findings to Professor Laventon to move up the ranks. When this is complete, you’ll head back to Jubilife Village .

Report back to Captain Cyllene to let her know you’ve ranked up. You’ll obtain the rank of First Star , which will also allow you to use Heavy Balls (and obtain the recipe), and for Pokemon up to Level 20 to obey you in battle. You’ll also receive the recipe for crafting Revives .

Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Pokédex Research Level guide

One of the new mechanics introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Research Levels for your Pokédex. It’s no longer enough to simply see or catch a Pokémon, each has a list of Research Tasks to complete in order to raise that species’ Research Level, up to a maximum level of 10 .

How is a Pokémon’s Research Level calculated in the Pokédex?

This can be confusing initially, as there are a lot of numbers and they probably don’t add up to the Research Level you’re seeing. But here’s a really simple way to understand it:

• Research Level is essentially the number of checkmarks you have
• Check marks in rows that are marked with the red box containing two arrows are counted as two points per checkmark

You may be tempted to simply add the numbers that are first displayed in front of each row’s progress, but these are not important for calculating the Research Level. They simply track your progress towards each row’s goal.

Below is my Cascoon’s Research Tasks, with a total Research Level of 9. I have added the number of points each task contributes to the overall Research Level.

Keep in mind that even if your points would go over 10, your Research Level will max out at level 10 and stop increasing.

What’s the benefit of increasing a Pokémon’s Research Level or completing all Research Tasks?

Besides raising your status in the Survey Corps? Shiny hunting ! You’ll get a small boost to the likelihood of encountering a Shiny Pokémon of that species. There are actually two separate bonuses and therefore two ways to increase your Shiny encounter rate:

• Research Level 10 means your effective Shiny encounter rate is 1/2048.25 because you’re granted an extra Shiny roll
• All Research Tasks complete mean you’re getting the Research Level 10 bonus plus two extra rolls, effectively making your chances 1/1024.38

What’s with the green boxes?

Sometimes you may see boxes with a pale green background. You can see in Pikachu’s Research Tasks below that I have defeated a Pikachu once and seen it use Thunder Shock twice, therefore reaching the first total in that row that counts towards completion. So why no checkmarks? It has not been caught yet. You must catch a Pokémon in order to gain Research Levels and have the Prof. check off those boxes.

But wait! I’ve caught a Pokémon and am still seeing green boxes! This means that you have not yet turned in your research to the Prof. Those boxes will get checked when he views your Pokédex progress!

The fastest way to progress with the research tasks is to catch or defeat Pokemon. Catching Pokemon can efficiently raise the research level of almost all Pokemon , so we recommend bringing out your Pokeballs first to try your luck at catching them before attempting to defeat them in battle.

Number Of Times You Saw A Particular Move

It is very easy to accomplish "Move Tasks" as it automatically progress whenever the enemy use particular moves. When you have an Agile/Strong Style Move task and a normal task, you can make them progress at the same time by using the style of that move.

Among the Pokedex research tasks, the tasks marked with red arrows gives more points to your research level when they are completed. Try to complete those first if you want to increase your research level faster.

Coronet Highlands

Cobalt coastlands, crimson mirelands, obsidian fieldlands, precautions when filling in the research tasks, some pre-evolution tasks are not filled after evolution.

When Pokemon is evolved, the post-evolved Pokemon Pokedex will be applied, and tasks before evolution will not be be accomplished using that evolved Pokemon . If you haven't captured a lot of pre-evolved Pokemon, it is recommended to fill in the tasks of the pre-evolved Pokemon before evolving.

The Capture Task Is Filled Even With Trading

If you Trade Pokemon with another person, Pokemon received will be registered as captured. If you have an exchange partner, you can fill in the tasks of Pokemon that are difficult to catch just by trading multiple times .

Evolution Also Fills the Capture Task

Even if you evolve a Pokemon, the task of capturing the evolved Pokemon will be filled as if it was captured. If it is difficult to capture Pokemon after evolution, it is also an effective means to prepare before evolution and evolve them all together to fill the task .

More Information Will Be Added To The Pokedex

As you increase your research level, additional information about that Pokemon will be added. You will be able to see more useful information such as their height, weight, favorite food and held items.

More Areas Will Be Unlocked

▲ As you complete the Pokedex, your member rank will also increase.

By raising the research level of many Pokémon, the completion of the Pokedex will increase. The number of areas you can investigate increases with your member rank which means you will need to fill up the Pokedex to progress the game .

Newly Encountered Pokemon Will Be Registered In The Pokedex

When you encounter undiscovered Pokemon, it will be registered in your Pokedex. Take note that registration only fills in the Pokedex number, name, and typing .

You Can Also Register Pokemon By Inspecting Them With ZL Button

Even without battling or catching Pokemon, you can still register them to the Pokedex by examining them using the ZL Button. This method is recommended for stronger enemies like Alpha Pokemon .

Complete Research Tasks For Each Pokemon

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Hardest Research Tasks & How to Complete Them

Finishing the Pokedex in Pokemon Legends: Arceus involves doing Research Tasks, so here’s some advice on completing the more challenging ones.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus does away with the old Pokedex formula by requiring trainers to complete a list of tasks just to unlock a Pokemon's Pokedex entry. When players catch a wild Pokemon, it does not automatically fill out their entry like in previous Pokemon games such as Sword & Shield . By going into Pokemon Legends: Arceus ' Pokedex, players can view Research Tasks for each species by tapping the A button.

A Pokemon's entry will unlock once its Research Level reaches 10. There are usually various Tasks per Pokemon, such as "Number caught" and "Times you've seen it use [move]," and these all add "experience" to a trainer's Research Level.

Common Pokemon such as Bidoof have simple Tasks that can be completed in one sitting, while a Pokemon like Spiritomb will take longer due to their limited in-game availability. It's not required to max out every Research Task, but if players are going for 100% completion, they'll have some work to do. The following are just a few Research Tasks that may give players some trouble.

Players will first hear of Cherrim in Pokemon Legends: Arceus when they go to accept the request "To Bloom or Not to Bloom" at the Fields in Jubilife Village. I

t's quickly revealed that Cherrim is one of the toughest Pokemon to find - at least in the beginning. According to Cherrim's Pokedex, it can be found in shaking trees within The Heartwood during morning and daytime, but players also have a chance of getting its pre-evolved form, Cherubi, instead.

Cherrim has the following Research Tasks:

• Number caught (15 total)
• Number caught during daylight hours (10 total)
• Number defeated (5 total)
• Times you've seen it use Petal Dance (40 total)
• Times you've seen it us an agile style move (15 total)
• Number you've seen leap out of tress (15 total)

To complete the Cherrim Request , players only need to get Cherrim's Research level to 10 and unlock its entry. Getting a Perfect entry is the hard part.

Cherrim's appearance rate isn't too high in Obsidian Fieldlands, but it will start appearing more in Coronet Highlands (Fabled Spring) and Crimson Mirelands (southwest of Gapejaw Bog; the tree by the lake).

Look for shaking trees during the day and keep trying until Research Task 2 and Task 6 are completed. This way, it'll be easier to knock out three of its hardest Research Tasks at once.

If Cherrim isn't appearing, return to Jubilife Village and respawn in whichever region has Cherrim.

Spiritomb is tricky because it's locked behind the Request "Eerie Apparitions in the Night." This involves finding all 107 wisps scattered around Hisui before Spiritomb starts "spawning" in the Crimson Mirelands near the Shrouded Ruins at night.

Once Spiritomb has been caught, his Research Tasks are quite easy to fill out since they're based around seeing it use specific Moves 40 times.

The most tedious Spiritomb Research Task is "See it use strong style move," with the highest objective at 70. Using a strong or agile style move will cost 2PP instead of 1PP.

The best way to complete this Research Task is to have Spiritomb battle lower-leveled Pokemon and defeat them with strong style moves.

Keep plenty of Max Ethers and Max Elixirs on hand to restore Spiritomb's moves without having to rush back to a camp.

This strategy also applies to Pokemon with similar Research Tasks. For example, one of Lucario's Research Tasks requires seeing it use Aura Sphere 70 times in battle.

Since the fourth generation of Pokemon, some species have been given physical differences depending on their gender. Any Pokemon that looks different as a male or female will have a Research Task called "Number of different forms you've obtained."

Pokemon with a 50/50 gender ratio like Pikachu means this Research Task can be completed very quickly. Others with uneven gender ratios (such as Eevee) may take some time due to their rarity.

In addition, there are Pokemon with different forms such as Rotom and the Forces of Nature (Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus, and Enamorus). Rotom's in particular is not only time-consuming but can be expensive.

Rotom has six objectives for its "different forms" Research Task. Unfortunately, the only way to get the appliances that change Rotom's form is by buying them from the Ginter of the Ginkgo Guild.

Rotom's appliances are randomized daily and get more expensive with each purchase. The final appliance will cost as much as 100,000. The best way to get Rotom's forms is by saving up on money and crafting items instead of buying them at Jubilife Village's item shop.

Additionally, space-time distortions can drop Star Shards and Comet Shards, which can be sold for a lot of money at a general store.

Players will quickly notice that Unown does not have more than one Research Task. By catching all 28 forms of Unown, its Pokedex entry will be unlocked, and it will be marked with Perfect.

There are other bonuses with finding all Unown such as being able to catch them at Solaceon Ruins and potentially shiny hunt them.

Catching Unown is easy since their catch rate has been changed to 100% for Legends: Arceus . Finding them is the difficult part. The hints in the Unown Research Notes are all written in Unown alphabet, and some hints aren't very specific. Unfortunately, players are going to have to search every corner of Hisui if they want this Pokemon's entry completed.

This Research Task would be almost silly if it weren't for such a high objective marker. There's an Alpha Snorlax in the Obisidian Fieldlands that can be distracted with all types of food. However, given the abundance of Oran Berry trees in the Fieldlands, the best strategy is to throw Oran Berries until Snorlax has eaten 50 of them just to complete this Research Task.

Remember when feeding wild Pokemon to wait for it to finish eating before tossing another Berry/Food item. Bait will perish if it remains untouched for too long. Although players can find regular-sized Snorlax in space-time distortions , it's better to just feed the Alpha Snorlax since it's very easy to be ganged up on by other Pokemon in space-time distortions.

Magikarp is well-known for being a useless Pokemon that evolves into the much stronger Gyarados at level 20. As ridiculous as Snorlax's Research Task may be, Magikarp takes it up a notch by needing to be seen using the move Splash 100 times.

Fortunately, Magikarp doesn't have any damage dealing moves, so the chance of it using another move is impossible until it runs out of PP. However, watching Magikarp flop around uselessly is a boring Research Task despite its simplicity.

The best strategy is to swim out to the Magikarp in the river between Grueling Grove and Horseshoe Plains in the Obsidian Fieldlands. There should be several Magikarp to battle. After throwing a Pokemon at it, use a move that deals no damage (such as Swords Dance) to stall until Magikarp burns through its Splash move. Then, defeat it and move on to the next Magikarp.

Alternatively, players can always catch a Magikarp themselves and have it battle another Magikarp. Neither side will be dealing any damage, but at least the Splash objective will go up a little quicker.

Some Pokemon that aren't native to Hisui will appear in space-time distortions. To trigger a space-time distortion, players just need to be in one region for more than five minutes. When a distortion appears, there will be a notification at the top of the screen and a space-time distortion icon on the map.

Pokemon such as Porygon and Cranidos will only appear in distortions , and unfortunately, their Research Tasks require catching more than one. These Pokemon have Research Tasks that require trainers to catch 3 and 5 large specimens, respectively. There's no strategy to make larger-sized Pokemon appear, so it's a matter of trial and error when dealing with space-time distortion exclusive Pokemon.

When a player has completed enough Research Tasks, their Research Level will continue to climb. At 10, they'll be able to view their entry. Completing all Pokemon's entries in the Pokedex is the only way to get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Legends: Arceus .

However, if players go out of their way to get a Perfect Entry, then the chances of encountering a Shiny Pokemon of that particular Pokemon increase.

Combine this with the Shiny Charm, and it could make shiny hunting very easy. Shiny Pokemon tend to crop up more in mass outbreaks , so if there's a Pokemon that players really want, it's recommended to complete all of its Research Tasks first.

Research Tasks In Pokemon Legend: Arceus Explained

Gamers have quickly discovered that there's no shortage of things to do in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus". Be it catching rare shiny Pokémon or riding a select few around , "Arceus" has reinvented the "Pokémon" formula in some majorly exciting ways. But where "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" differs the most from its predecessors is the fact that being a Pokémon trainer is only part of the overall experience, rather than the singular focus. Instead, "Arceus" and its core gameplay are built around the player being a Pokémon researcher first and foremost.  

Much of the journey in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" is focused on discovering greater information about the creatures themselves, as well as how they relate to the world around them. This information is greatly expanded upon through the game's Research Tasks, which provide plenty of opportunities for world-building. But how exactly does one go about accomplishing these Research Tasks, and what do they do?

What are Research Tasks?

Research Tasks in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" can essentially be boiled down to a list of objectives tied to individual Pokémon species. These objectives can be accessed in the Pokédex and are used in-game to collect more data on each Pokémon you encounter in the wild. For instance, a Research Task could involve the player catching a certain number of a specific Pokémon, catching them at a certain time of day, or tracking the amount of times you've seen them perform a certain move.

Upon doing a certain number of these Research Tasks, a red checkmark will appear in the Pokédex to mark their completion. It should also be noted that these tasks can be completed either by viewing Pokémon in the wild or by observing Pokémon you've already captured. For instance, if you need to see a Pokémon do a specific move to complete a Task, you can simply order your own captured Pokémon to perform that move.

What do you get for accomplishing a Research Task?

Upon completing several of the Research Tasks while on expeditions, players can claim their rewards upon returning to their Base Camp and consulting with Professor Laventon. There, Laventon will give you Research Points based on your performance, which can also be turned in at the Jubilife Village to receive a Rank Up star. Research Points and Rank Up stars are vital to the player's progression in-game, as each rank allows players to obtain stronger Pokémon and better items, such as Gigaton Balls and Jet Balls optimized for catching Alpha Pokémon.

While players aren't required to complete every Research Task in the game, Research Points are pivotal in unlocking more main story quests and areas. In other words, Research Tasks are an economical means to this end, as well as the surest way to ensure that your character continues to progress and learn the mysteries of the Hisui region.

Tasks (Japanese: 任務 task ) are quests in Pokémon Legends: Arceus . There are two distinct types of tasks in the game: missions (Japanese: メイン main ), which are main quests required to progress the story, and requests (Japanese: サブ sub ), which are sidequests that do not play major roles in the main story.

Each task has several objectives. When the player completes the listed objective, either they will receive new objectives or the task will be marked as complete.

"Guidance" (Japanese: ガイド guide ) allows tracking of one of the player's current tasks. Guidance creates an icon in the overworld that marks where the player needs to go to progress their current mission, with a number underneath indicating their distance from that point. Guidance will be enabled for the player's current mission by default but can be changed by manually selecting another task. Once the player completes all of the missions, guidance must be manually activated for requests as it will not automatically track them.

The main purpose of tasks is to help the player advance the story and further complete the Hisui Pokédex . The tasks are also a way of unlocking new features such as massive mass outbreaks, the Path of Solitude , and the Path of Tenacity that were added in the Daybreak update.

Missions are the main story quests in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Missions are given to the player in sequential order, with the end of one mission leading directly into the next one. Mission objectives are indicated by a white circle with a dark square center via guidance.

Requests are sidequests in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Requests are offered by characters around the Hisui region . Characters with pending requests will have a black circle symbol above their head; these markers show up on the map and also appear with guidance activated. Some requests have certain prerequisites that need to be met before they become available.

Requests are not required to progress the game's story. However, the final mission, Mission 27: "The Deified Pokémon", requires obtaining every Pokémon (other than Mythical Pokémon ) in the Hisui Pokédex; some Pokémon are only available through completing requests, meaning that three requests (Request 22: "Eerie Apparitions in the Night", Request 91: "On the Trail of Giratina", and Request 94: "Incarnate Forces of Hisui") must be undertaken to complete the final mission without trading .

• ↑ Beauregard will refuse to accept alpha Pokémon .
• ↑ Dorian requests a height of 2'8" or larger; however due to an oversight , he will accept some 2'7" Buizel. Height is stored internally as a value from 0-255, and Dorian accepts Buizel from size 215-255. The height of 2'7" ranges from 196-217, which slightly overlaps the accepted range, meaning he'll erroneously accept 3/22 possible Buizel with a height of 2'7".
• Request 22: "Eerie Apparitions in the Night" is the only request that the player is required to accept to progress in the story. After completing Mission 7: "The Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods", the player is put into a forced gameplay sequence with Vessa , after which she provides the request.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has the potential to be the Pokemon game of my childhood dreams, and it comes so close to being just that. By shifting the Pokemon formula to focus on enhanced open-world exploration, and the quest to catch 'em all, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has truly revolutionized the series for a more modern audience. But that's not to say that it's perfect, as there are a couple of elements that hold this experimental Pokemon game back from being the very best the series has ever been. What it is able to accomplish is impressive, particularly for a 25-year-old series that's always been a little rigid with its formula. Release date: January 28, 2022 Platform: Nintendo Switch Developer: Game Freak Publisher: Nintendo Game Freak has cleverly accomplished this long-overdue evolution by essentially starting from scratch, teleporting us back to a point in time long before anything we've seen in the series to date. You're exploring the Hisui region, an early version of Sinnoh where there's just one major settlement. That's Jubilife Village, which acts as the central hub from which you'll head out on expeditions to explore the land, help the residents, and discover new Pokemon. It works well as a base of operations, and as a space that will gently grow and change over time with shops and other facilities. It's also filled with people who are desperate to share in your adventure and learn more about the Pokemon roaming the wilds of Hisui around them. You are tasked with completing the locale's first Pokedex as part of the Galaxy Team's Survey Corp, which essentially boils down to three different formats – discovering a Pokemon, catching a Pokemon, and completing a Pokemon's Pokedex entry by completing research tasks to move up the knowledge ranks until you max out at 10. This can be accomplished by observing a Pokemon using a certain move, catching or defeating a specific number, or allowing it to evolve. I'm admittedly disappointed to find there aren't more Pokemon Snap-inspired observational research tasks, where watching a Pokemon's behavior becomes as important as catching or battling it, as the tasks you're given in Pokemon Legends: Arceus can feel a little repetitive – particularly if you truly want to complete your 'dex.

The gameplay for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A could be poised to allow players to personally make a dramatic impact on Lumiose City.

• Lumiose City may be the focus in Pokémon Legends Z-A , hinting at a unique city-building gameplay experience.
• Players could have a hand in redesigning and upgrading Lumiose, creating a customizable urban landscape.

Information regarding Pokémon Legends: Z-A has revealed only the slightest hints of what the game has in store, but it seems that people may be able to have an incredible effect on Lumiose City. The long-awaited next Pokémon Legends game was a surprising announcement for this year’s Pokémon Day, but nevertheless, one which has quickly captured the imagination of many. Many rumors and theories are circulating over Pokémon Legends Z-A , but the trailer may have foreshadowed more than it appears to at first glance.

From what is known so far about Legends: Z-A , it would make sense for the protagonist to be involved in this redevelopment scheme. Moreover, although the graphics used are not from the final product, the choice of a wireframe aesthetic to introduce Lumiose does feel heavily reminiscent of city builder games. With this in mind, it is possible that one of the core gameplay aspects of Pokémon Legends Z-A could allow the player to design Lumiose City themselves . This would be a brand-new direction for the franchise, but given the popularity of the sub-genre, a potentially enjoyable change as well.

Although Lumiose City is fully explorable in Pokémon X and Y , with numerous shops and cafés, only a few places truly stand out along its streets. The Prism Tower at its center is one of only a few landmarks, with other notable locations including the local museum and train station, as well as the Battle Institute. A game that allows people to place their preferred specialty shops along its streets, as well as likely introducing prototypical versions of more recognizable landmarks, would undoubtedly make Lumiose City feel even more impressive than it is in X and Y .

Of course, it is worth noting that the Pokémon games have made use of similar gameplay features already . Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 ’s Join Avenue, followed by Sun and Moon ’s Festival Plaza, both allow the player to have various buildings built in a specialized area. Moreover, as the city’s Gym and geographical focal point, it seems likely that Prism Tower will play a prominent role in any reshaping of the City. Due to it being a tower, it could even be slowly built over the course of Z-A through the player’s efforts, with the addition of new floors both marking overall game progress and unlocking new services.

In addition to this, it is easy to imagine the game allowing people to balance residential and business areas , with the possibility of building and slowly upgrading special locations like Hotel Richissime, or even the iconic Pokémon Center. Again, this could unlock specialized services and related gameplay features; for example, perhaps one series of side-missions will allow for the number of storage spaces available for Pokémon to increase. This would most likely be through assisting with the development of the Pokémon Box system or something analogous in the city, perhaps even a simpler, ranch-like area similar to Legends: Arceus ’ pastures.

What Pokémon Legends Z-A Could Mean For Black & White Remakes

While it can be safely assumed that Legends: Z-A ’s Lumiose City will occupy a sizable area to explore, the fact that the rest of Kalos seems unavailable to explore means that the player is unlikely to be tasked with foraging for construction supplies (although this does not mean that the city itself will not expand over the course of the game). Instead, if Legends: Z-A does incorporate City Builder aspects, its gameplay will presumably take a more logistical point of view, deciding on the placement of infrastructure and generating revenue to build further rather than acquiring raw materials directly.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will almost certainly feature many new ancestors of established characters, with a relation of Lumiose’s own Gym Leader Clemont being a particularly strong possibility.

Established Pokémon Legends Gameplay Could Easily Suit Rebuilding Lumiose City

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus , the protagonist is able to contribute to the growth of Jubilife Village by completing various requests from NPCs, which typically revolve around capturing Pokémon or delivering items. In addition to a steadily growing Pokémon population, other benefits like the expansion of the village’s farm also provide benefits to making occasional diversions from the main story. It is possible that any similar requests to capture Pokémon in Legends: Z-A could revolve more closely around construction, such as removing a Pokémon hindering progress or finding strong Pokémon like Machamp to assist workers.

Given that the emphasis of Lumiose City’s redevelopment is on Human-Pokémon coexistence, this also could provide a major research element to gameplay. Having ascertained the needs of both humans and Pokémon, people may then be charged with ensuring that both sides are satisfied with their environment. For example, having enough ponds and fountains built for Water-types, or relocating a population of particularly noisy Pokémon away from residential areas. Both the need to research and transport Pokémon could provide the impetus to capture multiple members of a species, again much like Legends: Arceus ’ own gameplay loop.

While Legends Z-A is almost certain to revive the best gameplay mechanics from Pokémon: Legends Arceus , the new features that it could bring to the franchise are even more exciting. Pokémon branching out into the City Building genre could provide somebody with hours of gameplay making careful changes in search of their perfect Lumiose City. In addition, the possibility of watching Lumiose grow and thrive under the protagonists’ direction is an incredibly appealing prospect. But of course, with so much still a mystery, only time will tell just what Pokémon Legends: Z-A ’s gameplay will actually look like.

Catching Tornadus is one of three prerequisites for finishing the Incarnate Forces of Hisui post-game Request. This request is only available after finishing Mission 26: Seeking the Remaining Plates and speaking to Cogita.

Defeat Volo at Temple of Sinnoh

After getting all the plates, you'll need to battle Volo at the Temple of Sinnoh. It's going to be a series of continuous battles so don't forget to save beforehand.

After completing the mission and defeating Volo, head back to the Galaxy Headquarters to receive another request from Cogita.
