Use a Google Workspace for Education account

You can use a Google Classroom account for personal use, but in a school setting you must use a school-provided Workspace for Education account. Doing so improves the security of the overall Classroom experience for everyone . 

A Workspace for Education account has new features made specifically for educational use, such as originality reports and is better integrated with Google Meet.

• Make sure your students use their school-provided accounts for Classroom, not their personal accounts.

• Most Brazilian states already have a Google for Education domain.

Important: State and municipal schools’ individual domain requests will be rejected. The Department of Education of your state must make the domain request.

If you’re a teacher from a private school (elementary, secondary, and higher education) or university:

To register your school’s domain, the institution's IT staff must follow the Google Workspace for Education sign-up process .

• To activate an account and get trained on Workspace for Education, connect with our local Education Partners REFO .

If you’re a teacher from a private school: To register your school’s domain, follow the Google Workspace for Education sign-up process .

If you’re a teacher from a public primary or secondary school:

• All staff and students of public schools within the basic educational level in Mexico have access to a Google Workspace for Education account. This account is unique to the educational domain of the state. For example: son.nuevaescuela .mx, hgo.nuevaescuela.mx, edomex.nuevaescuela.mx.
• To get an email account, contact the Director or Supervisor of the Educational Center. If the Director or Supervisor needs more support, they should contact the Department of Technology of the State Secretary of Education. Consult the help desks and contact points by state .

If you’re a teacher from a public school (upper middle and upper) or a private school (all educational levels):

• To register your school’s domain, the IT team of the educational institution must follow the Google Workspace for Education sign-up process .
• You can also receive assistance from one of our authorized partners .

Once you get an account, you can get training from our Teacher Center . The Teacher Center has courses that educators created to promote our teaching tools.

You can also join a local learning community for educators who want to share and learn from others. Learn about our Google Educator Groups .

Google Classroom has become an essential tool for teachers and students worldwide. It provides a centralized digital platform where educators can create, distribute, and grade assignments while students can access learning materials and submit their work. If you’re new to Google Classroom or just need a refresher on how to join a class, this step-by-step guide will help you get started.

Step 1: Access Google Classroom

To join a class on Google Classroom, first, make sure you have a Google account. If you don’t have one yet, sign up for a free account at https://accounts.google.com/signup . Once you have your account ready, go to https://classroom.google.com/  and sign in using your Google credentials.

Step 2: Locate the Classes page

Upon signing in to Google Classroom, you’ll see your Classes page. This is where all the classes you’ve joined or created are displayed. If this is your first time using the platform, it will be empty.

There are two primary methods for joining a class in Google Classroom:

– Invitation Link: Your teacher may send you an email with an invitation link. Click on the link within the email to join the class automatically.

 – Class Code: Alternatively, your teacher might provide you with a class code instead. To join the class using the code:

a) On the Classes page, click on the “+” icon located at the top-right corner of the screen.

b) Select “Join class” from the dropdown menu.

c) Enter your teacher’s providedclass code in the text fieldand click “Join.”

Step 4: Explore your new Class

Once you’ve successfully joined a class, it will appear on your Classes page. Click on it to enter the Class Stream. Here, you can view announcements, assignments, and materials shared by your teacher. You can also participate in class discussions.

At the top of your Class Stream, you will find several tabs:

– Stream: This page displays all recent announcements, assignments, and posts from your teacher.

– Classwork: Here, you can locate all the assignments, quizzes, and learning materials for your class.

– People: Check this tab to view the list of your classmates and teachers.

– Grades (if applicable): If your teacher uses Google Classroom for grading, you can access your scores under this tab.

You can use the plan as long as you are working at a qualified school. Your eligibility may be re-verified at any time. When your Office 365 Education plan expires:

• The Office applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means that you can view documents, but you cannot edit or create new documents.
• Online services associated with the school email address—for example, Office Online and OneDrive—will no longer work.
• If your plan expires, you can extend your plan by re-verifying your status as an educator, or by moving to an Office 365 personal plan.

In many cases, the response time is instantaneous through an automated verification process. In other cases where an institution needs to be verified, it may take up to a month to confirm eligibility. If you are nearing the end of your 30-day trial and have not received approval of eligibility, please contact customer support .
