If you have an ipad . it will no sync your progress.

My only disgust with this app is that it will not sync my progress across devices. I use the app in my phone and iPad but keeps different progress records for each. Frustrating! I tried contacting the developers about it, but never got a response.

Difficulties

Bonjour, I was wondering if there is a way to show the English translation of sentence on lessons? I am trying to use this app to get a better understand of the language but I am not fluent and I don’t know a lot of words quite yet. When it has example sentences can you also provide the English translation? Merci!

Developer Response ,

Hello, If you use the english version of Dr French, you'll find a button next to the examples to translate them. It's a small button with the letters "en". Click again on the button to display the french version. We didn't add the translation for all the examples (only for 1000 of them) but we're working on it!

Novice User

I just started using this tool to refresh my French grammar. I find it easy to use and very useful. Information is presented in a very well organized way. However, I find the orange font with orange background VERY difficult to read. Please change the font color to black so it is more readable. Thank you!
Hello, Thank you for your nice comment! We are glad you like Dr French! As for the color problem, could you send us a screenshot at [email protected] please? We will correct this issue in the next update! Kind regards, Julien

22 Best Apps To Learn French In 2024 (Tried And Tested)

As a French learner, you’re lucky to have some great apps to learn French and help you on your journey towards fluency.

In addition to French online courses and resources , as well as YouTube videos and podcasts , there are some really engaging (and fun) web and mobile apps worth mentioning.

Each app is different and unique, with a different skill emphasis.

With this range of French apps vying for your attention, how can you make sure you choose the right one?

Today, I’ve narrowed down your options somewhat.

If you’re unsure which French language apps are most suitable, take a look at the list below.

Table Of Contents

Rocket French

Frantastique, frenchpod101, french today.

  • French Translator Dictionary+

Rosetta Stone

DISCLAIMER : The comments below are personal opinions .

Best apps for learning French

Rocket French is arguably the best structured course online for French and both the web and mobile apps are equally comprehensive.

The platform offers comprehensive courses that help you learn all language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). The app focuses on teaching you practical phrases and dialogues instead of isolated words and heavy grammar (a good thing!).

Platforms: Web, Android and iOS.

What you’ll like about it:

  • Content is varied between interactive audio lessons, language and culture lessons, writing lessons and survival kit lessons.
  • Voice recognition tool (Rocket Record) that helps your pronunciation.
  • Host of the course acts almost like a teacher, guiding you through dialogues and asking you to repeat certain phrases.
  • Audio quality and dialogues are excellent, including expressions used in everyday life.
  • The culture lessons are invaluable, giving you details about how people interact and what is expected of a French speaker in certain contexts.
  • Includes a “My Vocab” tool in which you can search for specific phrases you’ve learned in the past and see them immediately in context with pronunciation.
  • Clean, intuitive and user-friendly.
  • If you purchase the French course and decide it’s not for you, you have 60 days to ask for your money back without questions.

What you might not like:

  • Requires an immediate financial commitment and is quite pricey compared to other apps, but it’s for lifetime access rather than recurring.
  • If you prefer immersion to constantly getting explanations and guidance in English, you’ll be better off with another option.
  • $99.95 for the first level (beginner to low intermediate).
  • $249.90 for levels one and two together (beginner to intermediate/low advanced).
  • $259.90 for all 3 levels.

Mondly was launched in 2014 and has become quite popular since then. It’s modern and unafraid to experiment with technology, using augmented reality, virtual reality and chatbots to help people learn languages. This could be your platform if you enjoy playing around with different features or clicking around to discover more information. If you’ve enjoyed using Duolingo and Babbel in the past, Mondly could be your next bet, as it feels like a combination of these two with some extra visuals.

  • Options to learn French with the support of languages other than English.
  • You receive unique new lessons every day, rather than paying for content that’ll remain the same.
  • One of my personal favorites was the ability to click any verb you see in context to open a small window with all conjugations of that verb (past, present and future), pronunciation included.
  • Mondly actually creates daily lessons based on your previous learning, so some lessons will be adapted to you as an individual.
  • The app has received great reviews for their chatbot and speech recognition features.
  • Perfect if you like having the support of your native language to learn a new language.
  • Wide range of topics covered for beginner courses, which is useful if you like learning vocabulary by category (travel, family, body parts, colors, etc).
  • You don’t get much for free - if you’re going to use Mondly, you’ll have to commit to a paid version.
  • Sometimes the app can come across as a fancier version of Babbel or Duolingo, with similar translation exercises, match exercises (words-images or words-translation), which can get a little tiring.
  • If you prefer a minimalist design or feel easily overwhelmed by platforms with a lot going on visually, you won’t like Mondly.
  • You’ll have to pay more if you want access to more languages apart from French.
  • The intermediate and advanced levels aren’t that challenging. In fact, they seem almost similar to the beginner level, except for the fact you get exercises instead of lessons.
  • Not the best if you dislike relying on translation to learn a new language.
  • Dialogues can feel stiff and artificial.

Pricing: 9.99€ monthly or 47.99€ yearly.

See this Mondly review .

Frantastique teaches French through immersive story, and offers a unique, personalized learning experience.

You’re emailed a new lesson each day, which includes a personalized review. The course is deliberately designed not to be rushed through.

Platforms: Web and mobile.

  • Includes dialogues in different French accents.
  • Premium and Pro options offer support and a certified diploma upon completion
  • Highly personalized.
  • Unique story-based approach.
  • A little expensive.
  • May feel overly restrictive for autodidacts who prefer to learn their own way.

Pricing: $24 per month, $36 per month (Premium), $48 a month (Pro)

Babbel French

The Babbel app offers a new approach to language learning — with its short, engaging, 15-minute lessons, you can learn new French verbs and vocabulary consistently, every day. As with many of the apps on this list, Babbel lets you get to grips with the French culture and language. The app covers many key areas you need to master to gain French fluency — speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The app works by offering you a range of approaches to learning. From flashcards to multiple-choice options and fill in the blanks, the app combines various learning styles. Each course is structured in different parts which include the key vocabulary, followed by a dialogue, then a grammar lesson and finally a review. And with a range of content that spans a wide range of contexts, this app is suitable for beginners as well as intermediate learners looking to put their knowledge into practice.

Platforms: Web, Android and iOS

  • Babbel offers lessons that apply to your level and knowledge of French.
  • The structured lessons help you to organise your vocabulary, which can help you chunk information together and learn faster.
  • The lessons are short, which means you can learn new French vocabulary even if you don’t have much time.
  • The French lessons offered by Babbel might seem repetitive and predictable after you have used the app for a while.
  • You can’t download resources or materials from the Babbel app.

Pricing: It’s 12.99€ to get access to Babbel for a month, and 71.88€ for a year’s access.

See this Babbel review .

Memrise (French courses)

One of the keys to language learning is repetition. And another crucial element is memorising keywords. Memrise is an app that uses these two fundamental approaches to help boost your French language learning experience and build your French vocabulary.

With the help of videos and audio tracks that have been recorded by fluent and native French speakers, users of the Memrise app can immerse themselves in the French language.

Memrise is also a fun app. The various usage examples provided by this app are comic, which not only helps you to recall the key vocabulary but the contexts in which they should be used as well.

  • Memrise has great visual aids that help you recall your French vocabulary more easily.
  • The app offers a range of languages other than French if you would like to learn an additional language.
  • Memrise is a good value for money, meaning you receive a range of resources and lessons to help you learn.
  • If you’re learning new vocabulary, learning it in context is often useful — which something which this app lacks.
  • Other French-language learning apps might be more engaging and have other additional methods of learning that are more effective.

Pricing: The pro version of Memrise costs 8.99€ per month. It’s also possible to gain lifetime access to the course for 139.99€.

FrenchPod101 is a highly popular podcast format courses for learning French.

There’s an app called ‘Innovative Languages’ which includes French among their other languages.

It primarily uses audio lessons but includes a fair amount of video content as well. Lessons are suitable for beginners right up to advanced levels.

The instruction not only includes listening skills but also incorporates essential vocabulary and grammar. All lesson content is downloadable and there are other features built in to the dashboard.

Platforms: Web and mobile

  • Loads of content for lower levels
  • Provides cultural insights throughout
  • Less English used in higher levels
  • Could be more advanced level material
  • Excessive English in lower level lessons
  • Site can be slightly overwhelming with the amount of features offered

Pricing: Starts at $4 a month.

French Today is the number one course resource for French audiobooks.

They have a large amount of products available for sale which are all superb, covering a range of important French topics (including French poetry).

Web, iOS and Android

  • One of the best audiobook resources for French learners
  • Speed variations

Pricing: Prices vary widely depending on product.

Glossika French

Glossika revolves around the concept of spaced repetition of lexical chunks .

The app customizes content to your level and uses audio-based lessons to create an immersive environment and help you speak French from the get-go. The platform also uses dictation, multiple choice and fill-in-the-gaps for you to practice.

Platforms: Web app only.

  • Take a placement test to see where you should start.
  • Set a daily goal for yourself, so you adjust your expectations and measure your progress.
  • The course introduces only about 5 phrases per lesson, so you never get overwhelmed and focus on perfecting your skills little by little.
  • You can skip sentences that are too easy for you (or that you already know).
  • You can favorite certain phrases you predict you’ll be using often.
  • You start learning useful phrases right from the start, even if they wouldn’t be traditionally taught in a French course right from the start. For instance, in your first lesson you might learn how to say “Today is Wednesday”.
  • Subscription includes access to all language courses, not just French. This can be an advantage if you want to learn multiple languages.
  • No grammar explanations, which is great if you prefer immersive courses.
  • If you prefer a more traditional way of learning French or are an absolute beginner, Glossika might overwhelm you. You start learning entire phrases right from the beginning, sometimes learning to say “It’s clean now” or “You’re lazy” before learning how to say “What’s your name?“.
  • Some reviews claim the content can get a little boring after some time.
  • Subscription includes more languages than just French, which might be a disadvantage if you aren’t interested in learning other languages.
  • No grammar explanations, which can be a disadvantage if you prefer having some support in that area.
  • Content is the same across different languages, which can be a turn-off.

Pricing: 7-day free trial before you purchase the product. After that, you can pay $30 a month or $299.88 yearly for access to all languages offered by Glossika.

The Busuu app emphasises the importance of speaking French.

From the word go it encourages French language learners to practice their speaking skills by speaking out loud into its speech recognition tool.

But there’s more. Busuu guides you through the essential French vocabulary in each lesson and teaches you words and phrases specific to your level. You can use their flashcards to assist your learning and even choose to select personalised lessons that focus exactly on what you need to learn. Say you’re travelling through France and will be staying there for a couple of days — you can select a tailored lesson to learn the essential words and phrases for ordering food in a restaurant, or reserving a hotel.

The app also features its community of French language learners, which will help you broaden your learning experience and reach out if you’d like to get your grammar corrected.

  • The Busuu app lets you track your progress as you learn and set targets to help you improve.
  • Learning offline is a possibility if you have a premium subscription.
  • The French language learning community helps you to interact with fluent French speakers and gain clarity on confusing elements of French grammar or vocabulary.
  • Unfortunately, if you would like to branch out and study a range of other languages, there is only a small selection of 12 to choose from.
  • Busuu might not be as engaging as some of the other available French language apps.
  • The free version of Busuu is limited in various ways and to access additional perks a subscription is required.

Pricing: The monthly cost to use the Premium Plus version of the Busuu app is 6.66€. This gives you access to your course content offline and lets you keep track of your progress with an AI-powered review.

See this Busuu review .

Pimsleur is based on an audio-based system which promises to eliminate noise and distractions to teach you French.

Using the principle of anticipation, graduated interval recall, context and limited amounts of information at a time, Pimsleur teaches you French with the guidance of a tutor in English, so you’ll get something similar to a traditional classroom experience with native speakers to provide examples.

  • Before starting your free test, you’re introduced to Dr. Pimleur’s principles of memory and language learning, which can help you create a habit and become more consistent. For example, you’re invited to complete only one audio lesson per day, not more, which sounds quite doable.
  • Some new words are broken down into parts, so you can perfect your pronunciation syllable by syllable and sound natural from the beginning.
  • If you enjoy the guidance and explanations in English from a teacher who can lead you little by little, you’ll enjoy Pimsleur’s courses. You’re taken step by step through a dialogue and asked to repeat expressions. Shortly after that, you’re unexpectedly asked to recall expressions, which is a smart strategy.
  • Something I have personally enjoyed is that intonation is also taught. This is especially important in a language like French, in which asking most questions and making a statement differ in nothing except intonation. ( Tienes dinero. - Tienes dinero ?)
  • Vocabulary review options include reading, using flashcards, a quiz, a “Speak Easy” option (to practice rhythm, intonation and pronunciation) and my personal favorite: a speed round in which you match expressions as quickly as you can, forcing you to recall under pressure.
  • Pimsleur only allows you to test one free lesson, which is not enough, especially if you’re not an absolute beginner.
  • If you’re bothered by the guidance or explanations of a teacher in English separating you from full immersion, this is not the product for you.
  • Because the course requires speaking out loud and repeating words as you hear them, it is not the best option if you’re learning French in public places or during small breaks, like returning home from work.
  • You’ll have to make quite the investment if you want to purchase the entire course (all levels) straight away.
  • Recent reviews claim the app is not working well technically, with frequent crashes and difficulty downloading lessons.

Pricing: $575.00 for a full course (levels 1-5). You can also choose to purchase 30 lessons at a time (one level) for $150.00 each. If, instead, you prefer a subscription type of payment, this is also available. The Pimsleur Premium App subscription costs $19.99 a month.

See this Pimsleur review .

French Translator Dictionary +

Looking for the ultimate dictionary to help you on your journey to becoming a fluent French speaker?

The French Translator Dictionary + is one of the most accurate dictionary apps that will not only give you translations but will provide you with a range of examples of each word in use.

The app is even ideal for learning a range of slang or colloquial phrases, which can often be a challenge with some dictionaries. But that’s not all!

The French Translator Dictionary + features a conjugator tool that offers more than 400,000 verb conjugations, so you can gain confidence and easily check whether you’re using the right verb form when speaking or writing.

It also includes a selection of flashcards and quizzes, so you can test your knowledge.

This app is good for putting your knowledge into practice and revising your French skills. It’s best used alongside other apps to strengthen your fluency.

Platforms: Web and iOS

  • The app goes beyond a simple dictionary, providing examples of French vocabulary and their uses in context.
  • It’s great for learning slang, unlike several other language translators out there.
  • The conjugation tool is a bonus that can support your learning.
  • This app lacks structured lessons that some of the others on this list feature.
  • The French Translator Dictionary + might not be suitable for upper-intermediate or advanced French learners who already know the basics.

Pricing: The French Translator Dictionary + is free to access and offers in-app purchases.

The best way to learn French is to completely immerse yourself in the culture, which can be difficult if you don’t live with native speakers.

Thankfully, the HelloTalk app can help you meet and communicate with native French speakers.

This language exchange app is great for helping you express yourself in French, and along the way, you’ll gain some accurate corrections from those who you speak with. But its benefits go further than that.

Not only can you use voice recordings and video calls to actually interact with native speakers, this app has a few essential tools that will help you correctly interpret those who you are speaking with.

Within the app, you can take notes and translate specific unfamiliar French words and phrases.

Platforms: Android and iOS

  • The HelloTalk app is one of the best apps for cultural immersion as you can learn all about French culture with native speakers.
  • The translation tools are really useful, helping you to fully understand French phrases that you might not have heard before.
  • HelloTalk emphasises the importance of conversation and speaking and also lets you listen to voice recordings to hone your listening skills.
  • The HelloTalk app lacks a lesson structure which is beneficial if you’re just beginning to learn the French language.
  • Your success with this app depends on other users who might not always be dedicated or available.

Pricing: The HelloTalk app is practically free. If you want a VIP membership, which will enable you to communicate with a wider range of French speakers, it will cost 6.99€ per month.

If you want to learn French with a native speaker, the italki app is what you’ll need.

You can select a native French teacher who will tailor your lessons by considering the speed at which you learn and your interests. Whereas some teachers might focus on grammar, others emphasise the importance of speaking.

But the great thing about italki is that, regardless of your motive for learning French, you will find the most suitable teacher to guide you.

All of italki’s French-language teachers are experienced and professional and you can learn at your own pace.

  • You will be taught by a native speaking French teacher who will correct you and point out where you need to improve.
  • The lessons you receive from italki’s teachers consider your learning interests.
  • Although available on a range of platforms, to access certain resources shared by your teacher you’ll need the web version of italki.

Pricing: You can access the italki platform for free, but the cost is determined by how often you’d like to study and which teacher you opt for.

Lingodeer is a grammar-based platform.

From this list of apps for learning French, it might be the one that most closely resembles a traditional course, because it relies on grammar explanations alongside vocabulary study to help you understand the complexities of French from the get-go.

Apart from that, Lingodeer offers some side tools to help you learn French, such as quizzes and tests, cultural stories and flashcards.

  • Simple design, perfect if you like a clean platform that doesn’t feel visually crowded.
  • Great option if you’re a grammar lover and enjoy understanding the structure of a language as you go, rather than just being exposed to the language.
  • Lingodeer might be better for you if you’re an absolute beginner who likes having a structured, objective explanation of how things work before you dive in, pretty much like you would in a traditional school.
  • Linear curriculum with suggested categories, which can be an advantage if you like having order and structure in your learning.
  • At least for beginner lessons, some vocabulary is introduced in isolation (not in the context of a dialogue or sentence).
  • If you like learning through immersion and not having to deal with grammar explanations, Lingodeer is not for you. The very foundation of the app relies on the importance of grammar to understand a language.
  • Might be a little too easy for intermediate and advanced learners.

Pricing: $11.99 per month, $29.99 per quarter, $79.99 per year or $99.99 for lifetime access to Lingodeer.

See this Lingodeer review .

Lingvist is a flashcard app organized by courses, or flashcard decks, to help you learn French by growing your vocabulary.

A main course on Lingvist includes the 4,000-5,000 most frequent words in your target language, with the possibility of adding extra vocabulary for particular goals (business, travel, a holiday in Spain, object pronouns, etc).

The design of the app is simple and pleasant on the eye, which is always a plus in a market that praises overcrowded apps.

  • Web, Android and iOS.
  • There’s a placement test at the beginning, so all materials adapt to your needs.
  • The app determines your level based on how many words you’d be able to understand in any given text. For instance, after taking the placement test, the app might tell you you’d understand about 33% of any given text in French. The goal? 100%, of course! This is exciting because it gives you a much clearer, specific reference. It’s much easier to decide you’re ready to face real-world French after knowing you can understand about 80% of a text than if somebody tells you you’re a “B2 level”.
  • Lingvist provides decks with different themes (love, environment, food, body parts…) so you can get a wide range of vocabulary and decide what topics mean the most to you.
  • You can create your own decks.
  • The app teaches you vocabulary in context, rather than teaching you words in isolation.
  • The cards and decks are highly-customizable. You don’t have to stick to what the app suggests.
  • If you tend to be bored by flashcards, this app is definitely not for you. Its entire concept is based on learning flashcards organized by decks (courses).
  • One-week free trial (no credit card or payment method required).
  • $9.99 monthly, $199.99 once (lifetime subscription), $79.99 yearly.

The FluentU app is engaging and suitable for all levels.

It completely avoids scripted content and instead gives you the huge advantage of listening to recordings and audios that are spoken by native French speakers.

Added to that, FluentU’s content is wide-ranging and includes various types of contexts such as interviews and recipes. You’ll also find that each native video has subtitles which you can click on to find out the meanings of each individual word.

FluentU lets you keep track of all the vocabulary and phrases you learn and, along the way, you’ll receive tailored recommendations for videos that you might find interesting. This further supports your leaning.

  • The recordings and videos spoken by French natives help you to dive into the culture and focus on a wide range of contexts.
  • FluentU is challenging and supports your learning with the option of using subtitles for each video.
  • The element of personalised recommendations for its French videos is appealing and helps to maintain your interest.
  • Unlike some of the other courses on this list, FluentU lacks a particular course structure.
  • FluentU might show the gender of French adjectives, but it fails to show their opposite equivalents.
  • The app’s quizzes might feel slightly boring and repetitive.

Pricing: After your 14-day free trial, accessing the FluentU app costs $30 per month, or $240 for a yearly subscription.

Rosetta Stone is possibly the longest-running and most famous language learning tool available, and it includes French!

Like many of the language learning tools on this list, Rosetta Stone encourages you to practice speaking French from the very beginning. What’s more, Rosetta Stone adopts the typical approach used by top French language teachers — this app doesn’t feature English translations at all.

Focusing entirely on French words, expressions and phrases, it helps you hit the ground running straight away and begin to absorb French culture, grammar and vocabulary.

The app works by requesting you to match French vocabulary and phrases with their corresponding images which helps you to recall and retain new vocabulary faster.

LingQ, by Steve Kaufmann, is one of the most popular platforms for French learners who love reading and building up vocabulary as they discover it in context.

It is basically a library of content from all over the web which helps you learn new words through exposure to texts in French. You get to interact with the text and mark the words you don’t know, so you can build your own flashcards and study the vocabulary later.

  • LingQ is all about learning in context and leaving grammar as an afterthought, which speaks to many language learners who love learning through entertainment.
  • Ability to import your own content and automatically turn it into an interactive lesson, just like the ones already available on the app.
  • Includes content from other popular entertainment and news platforms, such as Netflix, Medium, YouTube, Quora and more.
  • Option to learn more than 19 different languages, if you’re interested in other languages apart from French.
  • Dictation exercises to help you improve your listening skills.
  • Browse library by level and topic.
  • Content library feels a little unorganized.*
  • It can take a little while to be able to use the platform with all of its features comfortably, as there’s a lot to learn.
  • The flashcard load can become quite overwhelming after a certain point, as words keep accumulating.
  • Premium options can feel quite costly compared to similar apps.

Pricing: Premium option costs 12.99€ per month, €71.94 every 6 months, 107.88€ yearly or 191.76€ every 24 months. Premium Plus gives you access to all Premium features and extra points for live tutoring, writing corrections and premium lessons at 39.99€ per month, 233.94€ every 6 months, 419.88€ yearly and €815.76 every 24 months.

Tandem has become a go-to platform for practicing French and other languages.

Here, you can meet people from all over the world and agree to help each other improve. You start by looking for speakers from your favorite French-speaking country and get in touch through writing.

The app is quite easy to use and provides huge value for free.

  • Opportunity to practice French without having to pay for expensive lessons.
  • Define interesting topics or prompts to get the conversation started.
  • Chat includes a “correct” feature which compares what you wrote with your partner’s correction. You are also invited to correct your partner’s writing.
  • You can define your learning preferences to find your best match.
  • Complaints about Tandem resembling a dating app are common.
  • It’s a little difficult to find a French conversation partner who is willing and available to commit to consistent practice. Quite often, a friendly conversation in a chat will not lead to much afterwards.
  • The very nature of French language exchange means you’ll have to spend time teaching the other person your language, rather than focusing 100% on your own development (like you would with a teacher or coach).

Pricing: Mostly free of cost. Pro membership includes unlimited translations, insights regarding your profile (and who visits it), no ads and profile verification at a cost of $3.99 a month for a 3-month subscription, $6.99 per month for a monthly subscription and $2.92 per month for a year of acess.

From breaking down essential French vocabulary with usage examples in each unit and sub-unit to helping you learn new adjectives, verb tenses and nouns, Duolingo makes learning the French language simpler and faster.

A key advantage of using Duolingo to learn French is that it lets you track your daily progress and evaluate the intensity of your daily learning. You can set your daily goals to motivate yourself and aim to learn new words and phrases at a constant rate each day.

  • The majority of Duolingo’s features are practically free to use.
  • You can access the Duolingo French learning community to clarify any grammatical confusion.

  • The app is fairly limited in terms of its scope, meaning completing the entire course will only help you reach a lower intermediate level.
  • The usage examples are not practical and often don’t sound very natural.

Pricing: It’s free to access the whole French course on Duolingo. If you want to reap its full benefits, such as access to offline content, it costs $6.99 each month.

How to find a good app for learning French

Selecting the right French app is a challenge, but bear in mind two things:

  • The app you choose is generally determined by how you learn and what your aims are .
  • You can always opt for more than one app.

If your goal is to travel through France for a couple of days, you’re less likely to need a comprehensive app that offers in-depth, structured lessons. Learn some common French phrases and you’re good to go.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to gain knowledge of the French culture, ways, customs and language, you might need an app that offers more detail.

Selecting more than one app can be useful as each app serves a different purpose. In the beginning, you might find that a free app is sufficient.

But as your journey to learning French continues, you’ll probably want to invest in a premium app along with a quality French textbook .

Whatever your requirements are, this list of French language apps should be a good starting point.

In return, you can also help other Busuu users by correcting their exercises in English or any other languages you know.

Level: All levels Good for: All-round language practice and development

french homework help app

One of the biggest challenges when learning French is mastering all the French verb conjugations . And although the best way to do this is through constant use and practice, you can also give yourself a head start by using a French learning app like Conjuu.

This app will help you master all the different verb endings of the various conjugations in French, which you can then perfect through use in more natural situations.

Level: All levels Good for: Verb conjugations

#3 French Pod101

learning french apps

FrenchPod 101 is an app and website dedicated to language learning that you can use to access a wide-ranging library of French lessons for all levels. The app is subscription-based, but there are lots of different options, including several very affordable plans.

I particularly recommend the mobile subscription, which gives you access to all the lessons on your smartphone as well as allows you to listen to the dialogue tracks, listen line by line, access the lesson expansions, and more.

This is a good app for anyone looking for a source of language input that’s perfectly suited to their level. For more information, check out this honest review of FrenchPod101.

Level: All levels Good for: All-round language input, especially vocabulary and listening

#4 Linguistica

french homework help app

Linguistica is the updated app that accompanies the popular News in Slow French podcast.

As you can guess, the lessons are based on topical news stories that are read out at a slower speed so learners can understand.

The app provides all the news stories for you to listen to with the accompanying text. More advanced words appear in red, and you just tap on each one for the English translation.

This is an ideal app for working on both your listening and your vocabulary. And it will help you become more confident when speaking about current affairs in French.

Level: Elementary or lower-intermediate and above Good for: Listening and vocabulary, especially current affairs-related vocabulary

#5 Frantastique

Frantastique app

Frantastique gives you one new lesson to work on each day, presenting new language in the form of cute animated videos and then testing you on the language you have seen. This is a good app to supplement other learning materials. It provides content for French listening practice, helps build vocabulary, and trains your grammar through exercises.

After each lesson, you then receive the results of the exercises along with information on anything you got wrong. The main downside is that you have to pay for this app. There are several levels of subscription, but none of them is cheap. However, there is the option of a free trial, so you can see if you like it before you decide to sign up.

Level: All levels Good for: All-round French practice and daily exposure to the language

french homework help app

For anyone who wants to work on their fluency or pronunciation, Falou is one of the French learning apps worth checking out.

It’s based on listening to and taking part in dialogues, with the app giving you feedback on the accuracy of your French pronunciation.

Since the dialogues deal with a range of different situations, it’s a great way to build your confidence in using the kind of language you’re likely to need in everyday life.

You have to pay for this app. But you get full access for the first three days to see if it works for you before you decide whether to subscribe.

Level: All levels Good for: Speaking and pronunciation

french homework help app

Unuhi is a reading and listening app aimed at younger learners.

It consists of stories in French and English (other languages are available, you just choose your native language and the one you want to learn). And you can either read the story or listen to it being read to you.

The main downside is that apart from the translation of the text on each page, there are no grammar notes and no interactive learning tools like clickable vocabulary or a word bank for new words.

The first book is free, and you then simply buy each new book or bundle you are interested in.

Level: Lower levels, aimed at younger children Goof for: Listening and reading practice; ideal for younger learners

#8 Dr French

french homework help app

For many learners, grammar is the hardest part of learning French, especially via French apps. And part of the problem is that often, there is so much to cover that you don’t know where to start. In that case, Dr French could be the app you need.

It offers you help on different aspects of French grammar, giving you clear explanations as well as exercises that let you practise what you’ve covered.

The app is organised in such a way that allows you to search for specific areas you need to focus on. Or you can simply work through the whole app in sequence.

There is a one-time payment to unlock the whole app. But it isn’t especially expensive, making it worth considering if you need help with grammar.

Level: All levels, especially lower levels Good for: Grammar explanations and exercises

#9 LyricsTraining

french homework help app

Learning a language through your favourite songs can be a fun and effective way of progressing. And if you're looking for a more efficient and structured way of doing it, you’ll love Lyrics Training .

You choose your level and the style of music you like, and the app finds songs for you to listen to while reading the lyrics and filling in the blanks as the song plays.

This is not an all-round learning app. But it will help build your vocabulary while also giving you exposure to French music culture.

Level: All levels, but better for elementary/lower-intermediate and above Good for: Vocab, listening, and modern French culture

french language learning apps

This app is particularly good since it presents new language in context through stories and other texts. You can listen to the texts or read them. And you can also click on words you don’t know for the translation and an explanation.

This is exactly the kind of app that can genuinely help you improve your French since it gives you access to a broad range of languages in many contexts and at exactly the right level for your abilities.

You have to pay for the full version. But there is an extensive library of free material. So you can use it even if you don’t want to spend any money.

Level: All levels Good for: All-round language exposure, but especially good for listening, reading and vocabulary

french homework help app

No matter how many hours you spend studying French, you won’t be able to speak it unless you practise. And that’s where language exchange apps like Tandem come in.

They allow you to find language partners to practise with from around the world, giving you the opportunity to speak French every day and making using French a part of your daily life.

Tandem is one of the best for this, and you can use it to practise by typing at first, followed by voice messages. And when you’re more confident, you can even try voice or video calls.

Level: Elementary and above Good for: Practising typing, speaking, reading, and listening with native speakers via text, voice message, and voice/video call

#12 HelloTalk

french language learning app

HelloTalk is similar to Tandem but also includes a few additional features. For example, as well as allowing you to find native speakers to practise with, you can also post ‘moments’ accompanied by whatever you want to write in French.

People will then ‘like’ your moments as well as give you feedback and corrections for whatever you wrote. You can then return the favour by correcting other people’s posts in English (or any other languages you know).

What To Look For In The Best French Apps & What To Avoid

When we learn any language, we progress by seeing the language in as broad a range of contexts as possible. When we see a new word, expression, structure or grammatical form in context, this helps us understand its use. And it also helps fix it in our long-term memory.

However, many French language apps – the majority, in fact – are no more than glorified word lists. They might have pretty visuals, and they might be gamified and fun to use. (That's the app villain at work!). But if they're based on nothing more than memorising lists of isolated words with no context, they have little value since this is not how our brains learn a language.

This means you should avoid word list-style apps, and instead, you should favour French learning apps that present language in the form of audio recordings, texts for reading, dialogues, or other authentic situations so that the content is always encountered in a natural context.

Another vital consideration is finding apps for learning French that give you language input at just the right level. To maximise your learning efficiency, you need material that is hard enough to push you to improve while not being so hard that you don’t understand any of what you are reading or listening to. If you understand about 80%, that’s just about perfect.

Hopefully, this advice will help you choose the best French language apps for you!

Incorporate These Best Apps For Learning French Into A Well-Balanced Learning Schedule

One of the keys to successful language learning is making sure you are exposed to as broad a range of materials as possible.

This means that while you shouldn’t rely too heavily on any one app, incorporating some of the best French language learning apps into your learning schedule can provide a valuable source of language input.

And by trying some of the apps to learn French from my list, you can give your French that turbo-charge you were hoping for.

But an app won't do the hard work for you of speaking the language. You can't get fluent in French just by using an app.

For that, you'll need something more comprehensive. That's why I created…

French Uncovered: For Those Who Truly Want To Master The Language

How to learn French at home

French Uncovered  is my comprehensive beginner programme that teaches you to speak French through the StoryLearning® method. With StoryLearning, you can learn languages quickly — through stories,  not  rules.

It's not part of the list of French learning apps, you can still use it on ANY device – computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

This comprehensive beginner programme teaches you French through a fun and natural method that makes learning a pleasure, and grammar a breeze!

It goes far deeper than the French smartphone apps listed above. And will give you a very thorough grounding in French.

You see, language apps might appear flashy and modern…

But they lack the depth you need to truly master French.

The only way to achieve a high level of French is to immerse yourself in the language! And that's what you do in Uncovered by learning through story from Day 1.

With stories, you can:

  • Learn faster through immersion, instead of rote learning
  • Memorise vocabulary more easily, by seeing it in context
  • Learn grammar naturally, not through rules!
  • Understand French more easily, thanks to lots of reading and listening practice

Pretty effective, right?

One of the best ways to build French learning momentum at every stage is to remember why you’re studying it in the first place.

For starters, consider the fact that French is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world—and its popularity is only growing .

As such, it opens you up to many different careers and makes you a competitive candidate in the workforce.

Learning French also  prepares you for going abroad and lets you communicate with people from many different cultures, not just in Europe but also in Africa, where a large portion of the population speaks French .

  • Learn the fundamentals of French sentence construction
  • Learn how to spell and count in French
  • Start building a French phrase stockpile with basic greetings

As you can imagine, the first step to learning any language is to learn its alphabet. You really can’t do anything else until you get this down pat.

For many learners, myself included, the easiest way to do so is to memorize it through song . Personally, I find YouTuber Kylie Hicken’s letter pronunciation and song video a great way to master the French alphabet.

When you teach a child their native language, what do you teach them right after the alphabet? Most of you would answer the same way: numbers.

It’s the same for foreign language learners and you’ll need to study French numbers before moving on. I would recommend learning how to count up to 20 in the first week , and reinforcing that info during the second week. If you have time during your second week, try to get up to 100 .

This  guide to counting in French  will help you master those basic numbers. Fortunately, the formula for saying numbers above 20 is pretty easy to remember.

As for numbers higher than 100, save them for later, after you’ve mastered this three-month curriculum. Those won’t be as necessary in everyday French life as the other topics in this curriculum are.

Here’s another extremely important basic concept: the six basic French subject pronouns. They shouldn’t take long to learn.

They’re as follows:

Tu  (You, singular)

Il / Elle (He/She)

Vous (You, plural)

Ils / Elles (They, masculine/They, feminine)

Simple, right?

If you want to speak French with actual people, then learning the basic hellos and goodbyes are pretty essential.

It’s best to practice these now before you add more vocabulary to your repertoire , as you’ll need them to start any conversation. It’s also smart to get in the habit of speaking conversational French early on, so real conversations aren’t as intimidating later.

FluentU is one possible source to start learning how to communicate in real-world French .

I bet you can guess what these two words mean just by thinking of the two most important English verbs.

That’s right— être means “to be” and  avoir means “to have.”

These two little verbs will be your best friends throughout the whole French process, as you’ll use them to form almost every common expression and to construct past tenses in French.

Reverso Conjugation is a great online tool that shows you how to conjugate any verb, including these ones. For weeks one and two, learn only the present-tense forms of  être and  avoir (the forms in the upper left box after you type a verb into Reverso Conjugation). These are the first steps of verb conjugation that you’ll be building on as you progress.

This will be your final subject to end the first two weeks, and you’ll certainly need it before learning any nouns or basic sentences .

While definite and indefinite articles may sound like a scary topic at first, it’s actually a super short lesson with only six tiny words to memorize!

Essentially, you need to know the following:

  • Le / la / les (the): Use  le for masculine nouns,  la for feminine nouns and  les for plural nouns.

Le bureau, la chaise et les crayons  (The desk, the chair and the pencils)

  • Un / une / des (a): Use  un for masculine nouns,  une for feminine nouns and  des for plural nouns.

Un bureau, une chaise et des crayons (A desk, a chair and pencils)

These small, simple words may seem unimportant but you’ll use them more than just about anything else when speaking French.

  • Learn essential vocabulary for the day-to-day
  • Start conjugating regular French verbs

The days of the week are some of the simplest vocabulary you’ll need to know, and you can start practicing by visiting the BBC, a site filled with vocabulary, songs and audio clips of all languages.

Their days of the week guide gives you everything you need to know, going far beyond just the names of the days to include the French words for “weekend”, “day”, “afternoon”, “night”, etc. Their guide to the months includes bonuses like how to talk about your birthday and how to say which month you’re going on vacation.

As a bonus, each word is accompanied by an audio clip so you know exactly how to pronounce it.

Weeks three and four in this curriculum are really all about how to get by with day-to-day vocabulary, and telling time is one of the most important things you’ll want to know from the moment you wake up!

Whether it’s asking someone for the time or reading your French train ticket, you’re going to need to master this concept.

Since you learned French numbers in weeks one and two, putting them together now to tell time should be easy. You just need this phrase: Il est ___ heure(s) ___. (Literally: It is ___ hour(s) ___.)

To learn more about how to express the time in French, you can check out this guide here.

Continuing with the day-to-day theme, you’ll need to study-up on weather words. At the very least, you’ll want to know how to say things like “it’s cold, it’s raining and the weather is bad.”

Try memorizing three words a day from this guide to French weather vocabulary , and you’ll have a stockpile of new weather words by the end of week four.

Now is a great time to change up your study method (so you don’t get bored) and head over to Quizlet, a website that boasts loads of great study sets and games .

Their page on French family vocabulary is fantastic, complete with flashcards, writing and spelling tests and several fun games.

Many of these family words are similar to their counterparts in English , so with just a few hours of play, you’ll have these words down pat.

Present Tense Conjugations of – Er Verbs

Essentially, there are three main groups of verbs in the French language and  -er verbs are good to start with since they’re arguably the most intuitive (we’ll get to the others later).

In fact, verbs that have the -er ending are by far the most useful regular verbs in the French language. That is because some 90% of all French verbs have the -er verb ending. That means that if you master this group of verbs and the associated tenses, you should be well on your way to French verb mastery!

In order to learn how to conjugate these, I recommend Tex’s French Grammar , which has an excellent guide to regular – er verbs with explanations, examples and audio clips.

  • Warm up with the last of the day-to-day vocabulary
  • Add more complex types of sentences to your grammar

After learning some rich vocabulary and starting to conjugate verbs, you might be ready for a bit of a break .

Relax and enjoy learning these easy color words using some more of Quizlet’s games and quizzes—their study set for colors is full of all the same fun tools you used to learn family vocabulary.

Now that you’re warmed up, it’s time for some more hefty vocabulary : house words.

Have no fear! As it’s no fun to just memorize huge lists one after another, I recommend ProProfs Flashcards , a platform that lets anyone create study flashcards. Their French household flashcards are a fun way to learn and once you’ve practiced enough, there’s an option to keep score of how many you get correct each round.

They’ve also got some games like matching French words with their English definitions so you have plenty to keep you occupied while you learn.

It’s time to learn French questions so that you can continue on your way to fleshing out nice sentences and changing up your speech patterns . You now have some great vocabulary at your disposal, so let’s learn another way to use it.

This guide to asking questions is useful for learning this crucial part of the language.

Present Tense Conjugations of – Ir Verbs

Here’s the second verb group I alluded to before: verbs ending in – ir .

Again, I recommend Tex’s French Grammar, as I really find their – ir verbs guide to be quite simple and complete. It contains many examples of these types of verbs and how to conjugate them.

This guide to French negatives  covers basic negatives, negative adverbs, negative pronouns and much more. Try to focus on one type of negation every day so that you leave this study stage equipped to negate anything.

That guide even has a section that explains n’importe (no matter/whichever/any) ,  which happens to mean many different things depending on the situation and which is used religiously by the French but glossed over in many French language guides.

Congratulations if you’ve made it this far—you’re now past the halfway mark!

  • Learn how to navigate basic situations in a French-speaking region
  • Finish memorizing regular conjugation rules

In week seven, focus on learning basic food vocabulary. BBC Bitesize guide to food has all the essentials plus an amazing extra list of French recipe-specific terms—it’ll be like talking with Julia Child and you’ll love it!

In week eight, take what you’ve learned and combine it with this  guide to ordering food in French  and you’re well on your way to devouring some delicious French cuisine.

In order to shop and purchase items in a French-speaking region, you need to know some essential phrases.

Start by visiting Quizlet’s money flashcards and games to learn basic shopping expressions like , “How much does it cost?”

Next, head over to YouLearnFrench’s shopping dialogue video , which will help you apply the vocabulary that you learned with Quizlet. Listen to and repeat the words and phrases that you hear until you’re confident in your French shopping skills.

As a bonus, check out these fun, simple online games that teach you clothing vocabulary while you play.

Present Tense Conjugations of – Re Verbs

Now that you’ve had time for the first two groups of verbs to sink in, it’s time to learn the final one.

Stick with Tex’s French Grammar because you’re already used to the way in which this website presents the verb groups and start reading up and listening to audio clips on their guide to conjugating regular – re verbs .

  • Start constructing descriptive and more complex sentences

Continuing towards creating good sentences, let’s add some interesting adjectives.

For Dummies has a short and sweet guide to adjectives and where to grammatically place them.

Don’t get bogged down by the particularities at this point, but rather verse yourself in the most commonly used adjectives and their basic usage.

The French language is in love with reflexive verbs, ones where the subject performs the action on itself. You’re ready for this topic now because you’re comfortable with subject pronouns and French verb conjugation rules.

A little complicated at first, you’ll use them constantly once you get the hang of them, like when saying  se laver (to wash) or  se reveiller (to wake up).

The first thing you need to do is memorize the French reflexive pronouns . Try to learn these during the first day or two of this study stage.

After that, you can spend the next two weeks practicing creating sentences with reflexive verbs. This guide shows you the different types of French reflexive verbs and how to use them in different contexts and tenses.

In preparing for the final weeks, try your hand at memorizing some vocabulary having to do with places. You have plenty of options here, and chances are you’ve already found your favorite French-learning sites from this list of resources.

Try out some town vocabulary with games at Quizlet or keep it short and sweet with travel words at For Dummies .

  • Add more complex descriptions to your sentences with adverbs
  • Wrap up vocabulary essentials
  • Start speaking in French!

You’ve made it to the last two weeks of the course!

It’s almost time to celebrate, but first we must perfect our adverbs. This helps you add even more description to your French sentences by describing how something happened.

Fortunately, they can be quite simple to master since you already know French adjectives. Similar to how you tack on the suffix – ly to turn an English adjective into an adverb, in French you use the suffix – ment .

Here are some examples from this in-depth guide to forming and using French adverbs :

confortable (comfortable) — confortablement (comfortably)

malheureuse (unfortunate) — malheureusement (unfortunately)

For the last piece of the vocabulary essentials puzzle, it’s time to learn the parts of the body thanks to another YouLearnFrench video , which includes all of the basics plus a great pronunciation guide. You can also check out our guide to 140+ medical terms in French , complete with audio to help you get the pronunciation right.

You’ve successfully completed a beginner’s French course and now it’s time to check the fruits of your labor .

Start speaking and writing French whenever you can. Use resources like Linguee , an online French dictionary, to help you construct diverse sentences and add new vocabulary to your repertoire. Use  BonPatron , an excellent, free French spelling and grammar checker, to catch any errors.

It’s also time to start thinking about bettering your pronunciation with websites like Forvo , an online audio dictionary.

Finally, you could start communicating with real French speakers on the popular tutoring platform italki. Here you’ll be able to find a tutor that you can practice and improve your skills with.

Congratulations—if you’ve successfully stuck with this French study plan then chances are, you’re a francophone now.

Take a moment to bask in your success, and when the time comes—dare I say it—start your intermediate level course!

14 Best French Speaking Apps to Get Fluent Quickly

*This article may contain affiliate links. For full information, please see the disclaimer  here.

Maybe it’s the allure of French culture. Maybe you’ve fallen in love with the Parisian lifestyle. Or French cuisine. Or maybe you’re a curious soul with a penchant for learning languages. Whatever your reason for learning French , you’re probably having fun and looking forward to reaping the benefits .

Speakers of the Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian) have an edge since French is also a Romance or Neo-Latin language and thus, shares a lot of similarities with them.

English speakers also have a leg up as the two languages share vocabulary. Avant-garde, déjà vu, sandwich, prestige, silhouette, intelligent … these are all French words that have found their way into the English language!

woman with French flag in the background

Learning French is fun, and to some degree, easy. Or is it? A common stumbling block is spoken French. From nasal vowels to the back-of-the-mouth “r” and confusing accent marks, learning to speak in French is a challenging task.

Not all of us can quickly move to France or any Francophone country just to get more French speaking practice. But we can get into French speaking apps.

Why use French speaking apps

French language app

For a well-rounded approach to learning French, it’s best to get all bases covered. A combination of mobile apps , French learning books , podcasts , online courses, and other learning resources should propel you to success.

Some apps are all-inclusive and target all areas of concern such as reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar. However, some are specialized, focusing on developing one or two skills at a time.

If your priority is becoming conversational quickly, certain apps can help. These apps will often be audio-based or feature a lot of audio guides that you can listen to and repeat after. Some may include chatbots or conversation features that let you practice your listening and speaking skills.

The best thing about apps is that they offer the interactivity and convenience that traditional materials like textbooks lack. Plus, you have your phone with you all the time, might as well use it to learn something, right?

Plenty of apps can help you learn to speak French. However, there are some that excel in this area. These apps are what we’d call in French as the crème de la crème.

  • Pimsleur ’s 30-minute audio lessons will get you speaking from day one.
  • Rocket French ’s audio-based course gives cultural context to spoken French.
  • For engaging apps that feature the voices of native speakers, go for Babbel and Mondly .
  • Italki , Preply , and Lingoda can connect you with thousands of French language tutors.

With that out of the way, it’s time to get a closer look at these apps. Allons-y!

If you’ve read our review of Pimsleur , you’d know that we love this app for a few reasons. Its biggest appeal? This app has been known to help learners speak from day one.

Pimsleur is an app that’s guaranteed to help you learn conversational French. The French course has five levels that make up a total of 75 hours of audio. All of the French phrases and sentences used are exclusively voiced by native speakers.

Not only does Pimsleur provide lots of listening practice, it also prompts you to speak. The program uses listen-and-repeat and call-and-response patterns that encourage you to participate and recall what you learned. Keep doing this for 75 hours and you’ll gain confidence in speaking French.

Learn French on Rocket Languages

Like Pimsleur, Rocket Languages is also a mostly audio-based program. However, aside from asking you to repeat after a native speaker, Rocket also lets you speak to the app with its high-quality voice recognition system.

Rocket French helps correct your pronunciation and accent. But it doesn’t stop there. It also provides reading materials, grammar lessons, and even cultural tidbits that are instrumental for a holistic French learning journey.

Getting contextualized lessons helps you gain a deeper appreciation for the language and can even help you speak like a native. I don’t know about you but that sounds super!

  • Interactive audio lessons complemented by reading materials
  • State-of-the-art voice recognition engine
  • Easy-to-grasp grammar lessons and cultural insights

Learn to speak French on Babbel

Learn French on Babbel

The bestselling app Babbel features a variety of exercises that target all aspects of a language. But the speaking drills stand out as its best feature.

There are two ways you can learn to speak conversational French via Babbel. First, you get lots of French speaking practice with dialogues that mimic everyday life in France. Second, you’re asked to repeat after words and phrases. You can’t do it halfheartedly as Babbel has an accurate speech recognition engine that notices even the slightest fumble in your pronunciation!

Babbel also comes with lots of engaging exercises and quizzes. The French course even has games and two podcasts, which can help you be more familiar with the spoken language. You can learn more with our Babbel review or try the app yourself .

  • Huge focus on nailing down French pronunciation and enunciation

Learn to speak French on Mondly

Learn French on Mondly

One of the best French speaking apps is not necessarily dedicated to just improving your speaking skills. In fact, Mondly is an inclusive app that helps hone core skills, from expanding one’s vocab to developing reading skills and learning conjugations.

That said, its use of the voices of native speakers makes it a great way to learn conversational French. The best part? Lessons are done in a fun gamified environment.

Mondly allows you to play your way through French with its engaging exercises. Meanwhile, the leaderboard feature motivates you to keep scoring. What’s not to like?

  • Native voiceovers that teach authentic pronunciation and accent
  • Immersive chatbot for French speaking practice
  • Lessons that cover daily life and French culture

Pricing: Free daily lessons. Full access starts at $9.99/month or $47.99/year. You can check the l atest promo here .

Learn to speak French with italki tutors

Learn French on italki

So far, I’ve recommended apps where you either have to repeat after a voiceover or talk to a chatbot to get French speaking practice. While they can help you become fluent, there’s no better way to put your skills and confidence level to the test than by talking to a native speaker.

Enter italki , a platform that connects you to over a thousand French professional teachers and community tutors. Here, you don’t just get to speak French but also receive guidance and correction on your pronunciation and tone.

While many French tutors have standard lesson plans that they use for students, the beauty of using italki is that you can ask your tutor to customize your course according to your skill level or pain points. Check out our italki review to learn more.

  • Private coaching from a French native speaker
  • Lessons that are customized to your needs
  • Affordable tutor rates and flexible schedules

Pricing: Varies per tutor but you can find tutors for as low as $5 per lesson. Check out the discounted trial lesson here .

6. Rosetta Stone

Learn to speak French on Rosetta Stone

Learn French on Rosetta Stone

One of the best ways to improve your French speaking skills is to be completely immersed in it. Rosetta Stone, a well-known language learning app, helps you do that from the start.

Rosetta Stone teaches languages through an approach called Dynamic Immersion. In simple terms, this means you learn French entirely in, well, French. Apart from the instructions, everything in the app is in French. No translations or pronunciation guides.

Combine this with the app’s TruAccent voice recognition engine and you get one challenging app.

This way of teaching languages is rather polarizing — it can be uncomfortable, even ruthless for some. But for those who crave challenge and want as much language exposure as possible, Rosetta Stone may just be the perfect app.

  • Exclusive use of the voices of native French speakers to train your ears
  • An immersive and authentic way of learning to understand and speak French
  • Ideal for upper beginner and intermediate learners

Pricing: Starts at $35.97. Check out Rosetta Stone’s promos .

Learn to speak French with Preply tutors

Learn French on Preply

Like italki, Preply connects you to a large pool of French tutors who can help you boost your language skills. It’s easy to choose a tutor; you simply browse and filter profiles based on the specialties, price, schedule, and reviews.

The great thing about Preply tutors is that many of them speak more than two languages. For instance, if you know German, you can search for French tutors who can also speak German. This way, you can use and learn two languages!

What’s more, you can sign up for a free trial first. This way, you can easily switch to another tutor if you’re not clicking with the first one.

  • Connect with native French tutors
  • One-on-one coaching on French pronunciation, accents, and tones
  • Flexible rates and schedules

Pricing: Varies per tutor but you can find tutors for as low as $4/session. Find a French tutor on Preply now .

Find French tutors on Lingoda

Learn French on Lingoda

Another amazing platform where you can find French tutors is Lingoda . Here though, you can choose between private, one-on-one classes or group classes.

Lingoda features professional native-level teachers located worldwide which means you’re getting authentic, expert instruction with cultural context. What’s more, the site offers over 550k classes per year or 60+ classes every hour, 24/7. Regardless of where you are in the world, you can find a class to join.

But what I really love about Lingoda is that you can get personalized feedback whether you signed up for private coaching or group sessions. That said, being in a small class means you’ll be interacting with more people and likely getting more speaking practice.

  • Option to learn one-on-one or in small groups
  • Classes cover beginner to advanced levels
  • Additional resources (e.g., annotated PDFs, homework, blog, etc.)

Pricing : Starts at $10/class. Check out the latest Lingoda promo here .

Devices : iOS and Android

With thousands of videos featuring native speakers in their local settings, it’s no wonder Memrise is recognized as a great app for speaking.

This immersive app effectively teaches French by showing video examples of how the language is used in real life. The phrases you will learn are all relevant and with cultural context to boot. Because native speakers deliver them, you can hear subtleties that you might miss if you just listen to machine-learning bots.

To build long-term memory, there are quizzes, games, and flashcards. And while Memrise’s official French courses are highly recommended, there are also user-generated courses that cover various themes.

  • Learn useful French phrases
  • Video lessons delivered by native speakers in local settings
  • Effective and engaging review materials

Pricing: Free with some features. To access all content, upgrade to Memrise Pro for only $5/month .

Learn French on Lingopie

Learn French on Lingopie

Like FluentU, Lingopie is an immersive learning platform that teaches languages through content that actually appeals to you. Here, you can find tons of French TV shows and films that can help turn you into a Francophone (or at least make you feel like one).

Learning on Lingopie is as easy as choosing a show or movie to watch and learn from. The videos have dual subtitles and transcripts. You can click on words to get instant translations and hear the correct pronunciation.

You can then record your pronunciation of the words and let the app test you for accuracy. You can also save your favorite words (or the difficult words) and turn them into flashcards that you can review later.

What’s more, Lingopie has a tutoring platform that includes expert French tutors!

  • Learn relevant French vocabulary from native speakers
  • Substantial collection of engaging French videos
  • Innovative learning tools to help you develop better recall

Pricing: Free 7-day trial . After the trial, you can subscribe for as low as $5.99/month.

12. Speakly

Learn to speak French on Speakly

Learn French on Speakly

Speakly is available in only seven languages, at least for now, but it is a great app if you’re looking to refine your French speaking skills.

As you can gather from its name, Speakly’s main goal is to help you speak and confidently converse with locals. What’s great is that you can tailor your study plan based on your skill level, your reason for studying (e.g., work, traveling, studying abroad), and how much time you can commit per day.

Speakly will then teach you the most statistically relevant words in French. With its audio guides and voice recognition software, you can gain listening and speaking practice. Finally, using spaced repetition method, the app helps you build long-term recall.

  • Ample listening and speaking practice
  • Teaches relevant vocabulary and essential grammar
  • Customized learning tracks

Pricing: €10.99/month. You can lower the cost by signing up for longer periods.

13. Speechling

Learn to speak French on Speechling

Learn French on Speechling

A non-profit language platform designed to improve your speaking skills, Speechling uses a combination of technology and human coaching to help students.

Here’s how it works: you listen to a professional voice actor say a sentence. Then, you can record yourself and save it for your coach to review. Within 24 hours, you will get feedback on your pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, grammar, word choice, and more. And that’s for free!

By repeating this cycle for two to three months, you can achieve conversational fluency. You can also access the app’s free vocab flashcards and quizzes.

  • Learn authentic French pronunciation and tones from professionals
  • Get coaching from native speakers
  • A holistic approach that also improves vocabulary and grammar

Pricing: Free for up to 35 coaching sessions per month. Get unlimited coaching for $19.99 per month.

Learn to speak French on Tandem

Learn French on Tandem

One of the best ways to become fluent in French is to talk to Francophones. As I’ve mentioned above, you can do that with French tutors. But what if you want something more casual, maybe even social?

If you answered yes to that question, Tandem is for you. This language exchange app that doubles as a social network connects you with thousands of French speakers who are keen to teach you their language while also learning yours.

With Tandem, you can chat with French speakers via text, voice notes, audio calls, or video calls if you’ve grown comfortable enough with him/her. Your language partner can correct your pronunciation, intonation, sentence construction, word choice, and more.

  • Connect with French speakers
  • Social way of learning languages
  • In-app translation feature, communication tools, and option to sign up for paid lessons

Pricing: Free with limited features. For unlimited translations and more features, you can sign up for Tandem Pro for $6.99/month.

Bonus: Duolingo

Learn to speak French on Duolingo

Learn French on Duolingo

I know, I know, Duolingo isn’t the first app that comes to mind when you think of speaking apps. But as you can see from this Duolingo review , this app has its merits.

French, along with Spanish, is one of the most well-developed courses on Duolingo. It has more units than other courses, it has the Stories feature, and as of writing, French and Spanish are the only courses that have podcasts.

The podcasts are not your run-of-the-mill content — they feature real Francophones with interesting stories — and aside from the host’s narration, you hear everything in French. That means more listening practice, which can help you improve your speaking practice too.

While the voiceovers on Duolingo are not as native-sounding as others on this list, long-term use helps you become more familiar with the pronunciation of French words. As for the speaking drills, Duolingo’s speech recognition engine has also improved over the years.

  • A gamified interface that motivates you to keep learning
  • Fairly accurate speech recognition software
  • French Stories and Podcast for more exposure to the language

Pricing: Free! For an ad-free experience, Duolingo Premium is available for $6.99/month.

Final thoughts

woman talking in French

French is a lovely language but it does take time and dedication to learn how to speak it. Believe me, I know. That doesn’t mean you have to quit. Why would you when there are so many resources that can help you succeed?

With this list of French speaking apps, plus lots of exposure to the language (French Netflix shows maybe?), you will eventually reach mastery. Exploring books , podcasts , and other learning materials may not directly help you speak but will deepen your understanding of French, which can translate to confidence in speaking.

Stay motivated, take advantage of the tools you have, and enjoy the road to fluency!

Our name 24HourAnswers means you can submit work 24 hours a day - it doesn't mean we can help you master what you need to know in 24 hours. If you make arrangements in advance, and if you are a very fast learner, then yes, we may be able to help you achieve your goals in 24 hours. Remember, high quality, customized help that's tailored around the needs of each individual student takes time to achieve. You deserve nothing less than the best, so give us the time we need to give you the best.

If you need assistance with old exams in order to prepare for an upcoming test, we can definitely help. We can't work with you on current exams, quizzes, or tests unless you tell us in writing that you have permission to do so. This is not usually the case, however.

We do not have monthly fees or minimum payments, and there are no hidden costs. Instead, the price is unique for every work order you submit. For tutoring and homework help, the price depends on many factors that include the length of the session, level of work difficulty, level of expertise of the tutor, and amount of time available before the deadline. You will be given a price up front and there is no obligation for you to pay. Homework library items have individual set prices.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, ApplePay, and GooglePay.

Tu parles français? Excuse me? If this is your first response, you're not alone! The French language is as complex as it is beautiful, and not something that can be learned overnight. Often referred to as the language of love, the French language actually shares many similarities with English, which is why many of the words may sound familiar or their meanings may make sense to you in the back of your mind. In fact, both languages share common roots; we just took different routes in terms of linguistic development. The French language is a direct descendant of Latin and is widely spoken in over twenty-nine countries around the world. If French isn't your first language, learning French as a second language would be of great benefit, both in terms of your professional development and academic prowess. Spoken by seven percent of the world's population, fluency in French is a definite asset. At 24HourAnswers.com, our specialists range from native speakers to academics with decades of experience both in teaching and speaking the language. Whether you require assistance with grammar, sentence structure, or verb conjugation, our specialists are at hand to help you with your linguistic development. To help get started, we recommend visiting BBC Languages French .

To what extent are the economic and political goals expressed by Cortés and the author of Instructions similar or different? What, in other words, did the Spanish and English hope to achieve in the New World? How did the authors' attitudes about Indians and their religion, culture, and customs differ, and to what extent did the Spain (as a Catholic power) and England (as a Protestant power) seek to have intimate social contact, cultural or religious assimilation, etc. with native Americans? How did all of these varying attitudes shape colonial practices and institutions? In other words, what did the Spanish and English hope to achieve, and what was the actual character of the early Spanish and English colonies in the New World?

While the French government surrendered to Hitler, a French Army officer, Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970), organized a French government in exile in England with the goal to take back France from Hitler. Hitler then set his sights on Great Britain. Winston Churchill (1874-1965) became Prime Minister of Britain and resisted Hitler’s invasion. The Luftwaffe, Germany’s air force, began various raids against Britain, particularly in London.  In the Battle of Britain, as the Luftwaffe German Air Force attacked, the Royal Air Force of Britain met their attackers in the sky to halt their assault. A new technology, radar, helped Britain to know when the Luftwaffe pilots were arriving. From 1940 to 1941, the British resisted the attacks of the Germans. While many nations fell to Hitler, the British resistance worked. Germany never gained control of Britain. 1.Describe what happened during the Battle of Britain. Who won this battle?

Help me explain the rhetorical situation to my professor.

His ancestors' zealous attacks against Quakers, Native Americans, and accused "witches" were both a source of interest and of conflict for Hawthorne, who so often explored this history and his connection to it in his writings. In "Young Goodman Brown" he powerfully weaves family facts into the plot and theme of his story and, as Edward Wagenknecht points out, "is perfectly clear-cut on witchcraft, as perhaps he had to be to purge himself in his own mind of the sins of his ancestors. In his stories the Salem outburst was a `terrible delusion,' a `universal madness,' in which `innocent persons' `died wrongfully' "

12. Which lines from “Robin Hood” best support the idea that Robin Hood and his companions feel a strong connection with nature?

If there is nothing else you can write about a subject, what can you write instead?

I wrote a somewhat big essay for a program if anyone can read through it and give some suggestions or where I should put the paragraph splits (not finalized) that would be great. Here it is:

In the third grade, my school introduced the honor roll, a list of the top kids with the highest grades and all, and it was a new concept to me at the time. When I went, after a while I started feeling somber during the time, because it was a long showing and my name hadn’t been called yet and I thought I didnt make the honor roll. But after a while I got called last and I was the number one student in my grade. Before in my school, I was a good kid and had good grades in my other classes and in my other grades, but I never really took realization of the work that I did and how I felt about it. Before I didnt really know what to think about school because I always worked hard and did good, but I didnt really appreciate it though.

After the honor roll though, I started to really appreciate the work I had done and how it affected me. After the honor roll, I started to feel more confident about me and my work, and I worked harder to try and keep my position. In the years following, I kept on getting top 3 in the honor roll, and it encouraged me to work harder to get to the first place spot. But during sixth grade, when COVID happened and everything when online, the school felt really different because nothing really felt the same and the things just werent as motivating as they were before, and we didnt even get a honor roll until the end of the year, and even after that it didnt feel the same as it did before.

After, during the summer, I felt determined again so that when the school year reinstated I would try my hardest to stay in the top three in the honor roll. When seventh grade came and we were doing part online and part in-person, I felt somewhat motivated during the online portion to go and make  the honor roll as we didnt have one, but once we went in-person I tried hard to make the honor roll, and I got number 2, it made me feel happy and like all of my work had paid off.” If anyone reads this and gives some suggestions, thank you.

Can someone read over this, I’m trying to get into a program to help me with stuff, but I’m not sure if it’s good so far. Here it is “I believe I would be a good candidate for the “Program” program because I feel it could help me with my future. My goal for the future is to get into a specialized high school this year, and after that, I want to go to a college like MIT or Harvard, work in I.T or something technology related, and own my own business. This program can help because it can help me learn more about important subjects, like ELA, Math, and Science that can help me get into an excellent specialized high school, and getting into a program like this could help me in the future as it is not easy to get into. From this program, I expect to get extra and harder work in subjects like ELA, Science, and advanced Algebra, and being able to learn material past my grade, and get help studying for the SHSAT test, but also do more independent endeavors in things, for example, projects, more hands-on work for things like science, and get help with more extracurricular stuff like coding and learning different coding languages, learning how to use the things we learn in school to help us build our future, and learn different languages. I plan to contribute to the program by being a good kid. I am always respectful and listen, one example I have never gotten detention. I can also bring diversity, as my parents migrated from Sierra Leone, in west Africa, so I am a first-generation American. Overall, I think I would be a good candidate for the program because it helps me with my goals, and I can help contribute to the program.” If anyone has any suggestions on how to make it better please respond,

Before you begin writing, you must choose a topic. You will be writing 4-5 paragraphs, so your topic must be important and interesting enough for you to hit that length. At the same time, the topic must be narrow and focused enough so that you aren't tempted to stray off topic. Here are some ideas to consider:

1. What is the best (or worst) profession that a person can pursue? Jot down some ideas that make this job good (or bad).

The Browns have experienced digital adaption in each of the different social structures. Explain how the Brown family has adapted. ***The Brown's Family Scenario***- The lives of the Brown family are entirely dependent on technology. In their lives, it can be seen how we can evaluate society's structural adaption to digital growth, analyze how identities are developed in the digital world, evaluate social theories impacting the digital world, evaluate changes in society's organizations through additional theories, evaluate the evolution of language within online environments and through digital technology, and analyze the development of deviance in the digital world.

Ross and Kristina met on a  dating  website. Ross is from Florida, and Kristina is from Connecticut. They met on average once a month in person and used video calls almost every day for six months before getting married. Most of their friends also had profiles on dating websites and found their spouses in the same way. Online dating apps have brought about a revolution in how we choose our partners.

Together, Ross and Kristina have two kids - Samantha, who is twelve years old, and eight-year-old Nate. The Brown Family exemplifies how the digital world has become part of almost every aspect of society. Increasingly, all members of the family are  connected with technology .

Ross works from home and wakes up to the phone alarm, and quickly looks through his Google calendar to see the different meetings he has throughout the day.

Kristina wakes up and grabs her phone to ask what the weather is going to be like. The answer will help her decide if she will go to work or work from home. Her workplace has made changes to how the business will run, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. A few of the departments have completely gone remote. Going remote has saved the company on office space as well.

Kristina decides to work from home. However, she must also oversee the kids who are attending  school online . The kids use e-books and use online technology for tests and assignments. Often, she has to help Nate and Samantha with their homework assignments as well. For lunch, she usually orders on Grubhub or UberEats for food to be delivered. She often thinks that the food industry has essentially turned into an online business, putting the livelihoods of a significant number of food industry workers, primarily waiters and waitresses, at risk of losing jobs.

Ross and Kristina's family typifies an increasingly digital economy, rapidly creating groups of digital haves and have nots. The Brown family is able to keep pace with the digital economy as opposed to being on the other side of the digital divide.

Since the onset of Covid-19, Ross and Kristina have been purchasing nearly everything online. Every store they buy a product from, be it grocery, food, garments, beddings, to mattresses, all give a discount for signing up for their reward programs. Kristina enjoys receiving these discounts. Her  usernames and passwords  have become her new cyber identity in the digital world. Cyber identity can be in the form of user names and passwords or even just a phone number. In fact, Kristina and others reliant on this digital world have cyber identities that bring a new set of realities and consequences.

When Kristina's computer broke, she had difficulty remembering all the usernames and passwords for the various websites. Fortunately, by using each site's login assistance function and with some help from customer care when needed, she was able to retrieve her usernames and passwords. She did so by authenticating her identity using a set of identifying features such as her date of birth, social security number, and other personal details. The digital world has created and confined the identity of Kristina and users like her into a complex digital persona that serves as her cyber identity and fingerprint.

Ross, Kristina, Samantha, and Nate all have Facebook accounts. Samantha and Kristina have Instagram accounts as well. This helps them stay connected with family out of state and friends that they do not see every day.

Samantha , who likes to be popular, has been regularly posting on  Tik-Tok . She keeps adding to her Tik-Tok content to remain popular, and in the process, appears to have moved away from her past identity. The real Samantha has been overtaken by identity she worked upon based on followers' interests and expectations. Samantha's followers are from all over the world. Samantha and Nate have been texting each other using internet slang and abbreviations that Ross or Kristina cannot understand. However, Kristina has started using emojis in her emails and texting to be trendier with digital communication .

Samantha's friend, Alex, has been following a celebrity using a fake ID and writes demeaning comments using slang on her Instagram page as he does not like her. Alex has access to celebrities and the ability to comment only because of digital anonymity. He would have never been able to do this in person.

My father doesn't get any job because of his medical conditions, and my mother is working in a warehouse where she can't earn too much that can help my father's medical bills, pay our rent, and put food on the table, so I've always known they could not help me pay for College.

So I've been proactive about earning and saving my own money. Since age 18, I've worked odd jobs (like mowing my neighbors' lawns); I started working at the subway after school and on weekends. Through all these jobs, I've saved about $6000. But even with my finances, I can't afford to pay for my College because I have to pay the bills and help my parents. I need help and complete College to give a good life to my parents.

Current in College and doing a bachelor's in business management.

Taylor argues a disproportionate number of Black people are poorer, more likely to be underemployed, condemned to substandard housing, and given inferior health care because of a lack of participation in local government b race discrimination c. Republican leadership d. failing to vote

Toward the end of her article, Taylor evokes the voice of Martin Luther King, Jr. Complete the quotation: In 1968 during another period of social upheaval, Martin Luther King, Jr., explained that the power of the black movement lies not only its capacity to fight for the rights of African-Americans but in its revelation of the interrelated flaws of American society, including a class and race. b. militarism and materialism. C racism, poverty, militarism, and materialism. D consumerism, poverty, and corruption

The ban on smoking in public buildings infringes on the rights of individual smokers in order to safeguard the health of the majority who are non- smokers. This ban was passed after Dr. Mills argued that it would give rise to the most amount of good health, which is necessary for happiness, and it would alleviate overall suffering from second-hand smoke related illnesses. What ethical theory is the best fit for this argument? a. Kant's categorical imperative b. Plato's theory of the tripartite soul . C Nietzsche's moral relativism d. Mill's theory of Utilitarianism

For Kant, if I have heteronomy of the willI have opted to subordinate my will to a the moral law b self love and instinct c. the appetitive part of my soul d eros

For Kant, the only thing in the world that morally good without qualification is a the action that brings about the greatest happiness of the greatest number bthe action that brings inner harmony or justice in the soul c the good will or the will that acts in accordance with the categorical imperative d. the form of goodness itself

One can argue on Kantian ethical grounds that the government's separation of migrant children from their families and their placement in detention facilities to deter others from seeking asylum in the US is unethical because it a. brings about awful consequences by their acts. b. views someone as a liability . c. treats other persons as a mere means . d categorically reject capitalist ideology

The categorical imperative (or moral law), in Kant, is most similar to: a the greatest happiness principle b the golden rule c the idea that you should get what you can while you can d the traffic laws

For Nietzsche, as discussed in class, the death of God means: a an actual God once lived and then recently died, so it is time for the new gods. B the belief in the Christian God is now untenable (people are

generally falling away from faith) so the European moral values based on that belief are in peril c God has sent his only son to die for our sins d humans do not have free will

According to Nietzsche, as expressed in the Thousand and One Goals in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, human societies develop ethical codes and religious texts by a. forming faith based communities and waiting for the revealed word of God. B discovering the Book of the Dead and deciphering the tablets c simply being open to the prevailing ideology d creating their own values, but then imagining (incorrectly) that a God or Gods created and sanctioned these values

For Enrique Dussel, ought to advance human life in community and protect the biosphere (environment) by means of a practices that are in accord with the categorical imperative. b. democratic procedures and in accord with what is feasible. Cpractices that produce the most amount of happiness. D mindful walking, breathing, and meditation

For Dussel, in the face to face encounter with the Other (victims of the prevailing system) recognize a that there is only one true God b my co-responsibility for the victims of the prevailing system c there is no hope for the future of humanity and the planet

For Descartes, come to prove the existence of God (in the Meditations) only after I realize a I am an unlimited being and can extend my reach throughout the universe b. I am a limited being and did not create myself cam a true believer and have heard the voice of God . D Faith has rewards in heaven

For Descartes, the argument sometimes referred to as "Cogito Ergo Sum" (think, therefore I am)is aan argument which proves the existence of everything to be only within his own mind ban argument that shows the mind cannot be deceived about anything. C an argument for one's own existence while one is doubting or thinking. d. there is a cog in the ergo when one hits the sum

For Descartes, indirect realism or representationalism includes all of the following claims about knowledge except a we have direct perceptual contact with the mathematical physical world b. we only know something about the world through the mediation of ideas in the mind. C only the primary qualities of our ideas resembles features of the mathematicalã physical world. d. there is a real extra mental world beyond the horizon of human subjectivity

For Descartes, Galileo, Locke, and other indirect realists, the primary qualities represent what are today are called asubjective or observer-dependent qualities bobjective or observer -independent qualities c. the first qualities anyone ever knows d. the primary source of horoscope information

The term extra-mental as used in class refers to what is beyond or outside of the mindSince George Berkeley rejects the extra-mental dimension of primary qualities, what is commonly referred to as a physical object is really for Berkeley, a an idea or ideas in the mind b a bunch of particles external to any mind c afantasy d quarks in a field

Epistemology is the study of a aknowledge b. morality c. how weapons inspectors go about their business in the episteme of toxic substances d. how epitomes come to lost souls .

Rene Descartes' method for putting knowledge on a firm foundation starts with the employment of systematic doubt. Instead of enumerating every one of his opinions, he economizes by calling into question claims about the world which are based on the evidence of a the rational intuition .b the Internet c revelation. D the senses

For Descartes, by the time we finish the third section of the Meditations on First Philosophy we can be confident that the primary qualities really do represent observer independent features of the world and that we are not being deceived about this because A there is a Good God who would not deceive us about this. B there is an infinitely powerful evil genius who creates the external world c while am thinking cannot doubt that exist

In class, we mentioned the theory of knowledge of John Locke only with regard to his contribution of the concepts of primary versus secondary qualitiesIt expresses a distinction made by Galileo, Descartes, and other early modern philosophers and scientistsWhich of the following, would be considered a secondary quality? A the spherical shape of a ball b extension in space c the motion of a guitar string (vibration) d the sweet smell of the rose

In the experiment performed in class, we closed our eyes and imagined a blue sweater. Dr. Mills asked : if we were to go into someone's skull or brain, would we find the blue image? After discussing this , we concluded that the blue image we imagined, each in our own minds, could not be seen by others because it was not to be found in the brain. For Descartes , the mystery of how to account for the blue image is to say that a. it is in the brain but you just cannot see it. b. it is in the mind and the mind is not located in space as are physical objects .c there really is no such thing as a mind or a thinking thing d. to have a blue image in the mind is nothing more than the disposition to say "I have a blue image in my mind

If one accepts Descartes' substance dualism and believes that the mind is separate from the body, then one will have a very hard time explaining : a why I seem to float above my body b. how dreams occur .c what happens when someone hears voices that are not really out there. D what appears to be the very close connection between mind and body

Descartes argues that while the body is made of parts and therefore will one day disintegrate (return to the earth), the human mind A is also made of parts and will have to die b. is indivisible and thus might be immortal. .c creates the body and is all powerful d goes on existing even when there is no thinking at all

For Thomas Hobbes, there is no mind body problem because the human being is basically a. just a bundle of ideas b a physical thing c a dream in the mind of God d neither mental nor physical

For Berkeley, the computer that appears to be outside of my mind is really a. an extra-mental physical object b. a shadow on the wall of the cave . C an idea in the mind d. an image generated by a computer program

Berkeley does not accept the indirect realist distinction between primary and secondary qualities. For one of his arguments against this distinction he uses a thought experiment. Here is a simple version of the

argument. If we imagine a rolling red ball, and we then try to subtract out ALL of the color (a secondary quality) from the shape and motion (primary qualities ) of the ball, according to Berkeley athe shape and motion of the ball will disappear along with the color. b. the shape will remain even while the color is substracted out c Cthe motion remain ; the ball will roll along without any color . d. the motion and shape will produce a new color.

Descartes argues that the mind and body are separate substances. We have called this substance dualism or the mind body problem. Maurice Merleau-Ponty offers an alternative to substance dualism Merleau -Ponty argues that the correct starting place in the theory of knowledge is not the isolated thinking Ego that is detached (separate ) from the body and physical world, but rather the a categorical imperative b . body c. mind d. lived body

For Merleau-Ponty, when someone is joyous and smiles at me, the smile a is just a physical behavior the joy is hidden from me in the person's mind because mind and body are different substances b is just an idea in my mind; there is no other being apart from me except the unlimited God c is an expression of the person's joy that is, the person's lived experience of the joy is incarnate in the smile. D is just a psychological state (please help me I really need help)

E. B. Tylor is famous for his theory of ‘survivals’; that is “processes, customs, and opinions, and so forth, which have been carried on by force of habit into a new state of society different from that in which they had their original home, and they thus remain as proofs and examples of an older condition of culture out of which a newer has been evolved.” For a total of 10 homework points, come up with 10 original examples of survivals that are not mentioned in the lecture, and be sure to explain the ‘origin’ of each survival (what are they said to be a ‘survival’ of?).

how sociological inquiry can help us understand diversity, group dynamics and the power of separating societies into groups

summarize Descartes' theory of knowledge using one concrete example. For example, explain the relationship between your visual perception of the computer screen or some other item and the item itself that exists in the physical world outside the mind.  Be sure to illustrate the distinction between primary and secondary qualities.

I think what best explains how and why gender socialization came out to be the way it is today is the patriarchy. I say this because it gives you a base on how gender was seen in earlier days and what it lead to today. Like how in the video it talks about the types of jobs men and women tend to lead to. Men take on more of those physical or engineering related jobs while women tend to take on more care taking jobs. I think in a way this is good because it utilizes some of the skills on gender leans more too than the other since women are the ones that can grow and have children. However in a way this is also a bad thing for the people who view it the wrong way. They think women are weaker or less important than men because of the type of jobs they choose, typically because they're "less physically demanding". However in these days i think it's pretty apparent both men and women can do 99% of the jobs the other can and so stereotypes like this should be ruled out.Career should be chosen by personal preference and not looked down upon.

After watching the video, I believe that the main sociological perspectives used in the video was symbolic interactionism. This perspective represents the gender socialization. This is because males and females have been taught in the past society to adapt to a specific gender stereotype. We are taught certain things as kids that effect our gender roles as adults.  Masculinity and femininity are personality traits that separate the gender roles. Gender roles have different beliefs and expectations. There are gender stereotypes that are talked about like personality, occupation, and abilities. For example, like in the video they talk about how girls are known to be good at arts and humanities, and boys lean more towards math and science. Or even with the name Sam being a female or males' name. Some people may think otherwise. In today's society I believe that things have changed a little due to women being able to do the same jobs as men, but are they are still judged due to their gender. Stereotypes follow us and influence decisions throughout our lives. The choices and decisions we make are reflective upon learned behaviors.

"In the past several years, a researcher named David Oates has been advocating his discovery of a most interesting phenomenon. Oates claims that backward messages are hidden unintentionally in all human speech. The messages can be understood by recording normal speech and playing it in reverse…. [According to Oates] 'Any thought, any emotion, any motive that any person has can appear backwards in human speech. The implications are mind boggling because reverse speech opens up the Truth’.... To our knowledge there is not one em-pirical investigation of reverse speech in any peer-reviewed journal. If reverse speech did exist it would be, at the very least, a noteworthy scientific discovery. However, there are no data to support the existence of reverse speech or Oates's theories about its implications.”

ystems Kai Edmonds is a manager of client support services for BizNet Computer Systems, a vendor that sells networks to small organizations. She is aware that a number of BizNet's customers have very little experience with the tasks associated with keeping a network system up and running. Kai spends considerable time on the telephone answering questions. Most of the questions she gets relate to the following three topics: - Security threats - Media backups - Disk performance Kai thinks BizNet needs a document to provide to its customers when they take delivery of their office network. The document Kai has in mind would address the trhee concerns she hears most often from customers. Assume that BizNet sells Windows desktop workstations that are attached to a Windows server. First, develop a preventive maintenance checklist of tasks that a small business organization could use to manage their systems for maximum performance and reliability. The checklist you provide should address the three primary areas of concern Kai has listed above. Next, expand one of the categories of tasks on the checklist to provide clients with a brief explanation of how to perform each step on that portion of the checklist. As you write the checklist and explanation of how to perform each step, remember that BizNet's clients are not computer professionals.

Transition theory provides a framework that generates research questions and guides effective care prior to, during and after the transition. Patients, families, and health systems encounter and face many changes that prompt processes and strategies for coping with these changes and their aftermath. For patients and families receiving care, interventions are made to assist them in facing each of the changes and promote well-being. They must understand the transition experience of passing from one stage to another. Examples include going from a teenager to a single parent or going from being perfectly healthy to very ill. This theory and its interventions aim to ensure a healthy transition from one state to another. This theory is also used in many different fields, not just nursing.  List 3 ways this theory could apply the transition into nursing school

This week's reading discusses important policies that influence the field of human services. Choose one of the following problems: alcohol and substance abuse, child abuse and spouse abuse, elderly health and social care, issues in corrections, or poverty. Discuss the historical perspective about the issue you chose. Then, select one policy from the past 50 years (late 20th or early 21st century) and explain how it has impacted the issue you selected (good or bad) and what changes to that policy, if any, would better serve those in need. Be specific and use material from chapter two and outside research to support your position.  In your answer, tell us why you selected that particular policy. Examples include The Affordable Care Act, Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, Welfare Reform (PRWORA), the Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.

Remember to support your answer with material from the readings and outside research and include APA style in-text citations to show where your information comes from.

In response to your peers, share your reactions to the policy selection of at least two classmates. Do you agree or disagree with their conclusions regarding the impact of the policy on the issue they selected?  Use this as an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of social services policies from your fellow classmates.
