मेरी कल्पना

साल 2047 में भारत की कल्पना में हमारे भारत देश की महिलाएं सुरक्षित होंगी और वह सुरक्षित तौर पर सड़कों पर निकल सकेंगी। इसके अलावा यह एक ऐसा देश बनेगा जहां सभी को समानता का अधिकार प्राप्त होगा। यह एक ऐसा स्थान बनेगा जहां पर जाति, रंग, लिंग और स्थिति को देखकर कोई भेदभाव नहीं किया जाएगा। भारत 100 वीं आजादी की वर्षगांठ में अपने भारत को मैं विकसित और आगे बढ़ता हुआ देश देखूंगा।

शिक्षा का स्तर

हमारी भारतीय सरकार शिक्षा के प्रति कई अहम कदम उठाती है लेकिन आज भी कई लोग इसके महत्व को समझ नहीं पाते है। भारत के लिए मेरी कल्पना इस प्रकार है कि यहां हर कोई शिक्षा का पात्र बनेगा। शिक्षा से वह अपने देश का विकास करेगा।

भारतीय स्वास्थ्य और योग

भारत की कल्पना में हमारा भारत देश स्वस्थ और योग के प्रति अग्रसर होगा। 2047 में भारत के कल्पना को लेकर हमारी यही कल्पना है, हमारा भारत योग की प्राचीन स्वास्थ्य प्रणाली को अपनाएं और उसे उच्च स्तर पर आगे बढ़ाएं। हमारी कल्पना है कि हमारा आने वाला भारत योग को अपनी दिनचर्या का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा बनाएगा।

भ्रष्टाचार, बेरोजगारी, अशिक्षा से मुक्त भारत

2047 के भारत की कल्पना कुछ इस प्रकार है कि इस भारत में भ्रष्टाचार को कोई स्थान नहीं मिलना चाहिए। इस भारत में कोई भी व्यक्ति बेरोजगारी के चलते आत्मदाह नहीं करेगा। दर-दर भटक कर लोग रोजगार के लिए परेशान नहीं होंगे। शिक्षा के अभाव में अपने जीवन को सर्वनाश की ओर नहीं ले जाएंगे। इस भारत में हर एक व्यक्ति अच्छी शिक्षा के साथ रोजगार को प्राप्त करेगा। जिससे हमारा देश दिन प्रतिदिन उन्नति करेगा।

इस प्रकार, भारत को हम 2047 में एक नई उमंग के साथ देखना चाहते हैं। मेरी कल्पना से हमारा भारत देश भ्रष्टाचार से मुक्त और बेरोजगारी की समस्या से मुक्त भारत बनेगा। इसके अतिरिक्त हमारा भारत देश ऐसा होगा जिसमें महिलाओं को किसी भी प्रकार की सुरक्षा का डर नहीं होगा। मेरी कल्पना के अनुसार देश में आर्थिक स्तर को लेकर कोई भेदभाव नहीं किया जाएगा। सभी प्रेम व सौहार्द से एक दूसरे की सहायता करेंगे और देश की प्रगति के लिए अग्रसर होंगे।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने सोमवार को 'विकसित भारत @2047: वॉइस ऑफ यूथ' कार्यक्रम को वर्चुअली संबोधित किया. इस दौरान उन्होंने राष्ट्र से प्रतिज्ञा लेने को कहा, मैं जो कुछ भी करूंगा वह विकसित भारत के लिए होगा. आइए आज जानते हैं क्या है 'विकसित भारत @2047: वॉइस ऑफ यूथ' का उद्देश्य और कैसे किसी देश को माना विकसित माना जाता है?

क्या है विकसित भारत@2047 का लक्ष्य विकसित भारत@2047 का लक्ष्य भारत को उसकी आजादी के 100वें वर्ष 2047 तक एक विकसित राष्ट्र बनाना है. इस दृष्टिकोण में आर्थिक विकास, सामाजिक प्रगति, पर्यावरणीय स्थिरता और सुशासन सहित विकास के विभिन्न पहलुओं को शामिल किया गया है. विकसित भारत @2047 कार्यक्रम में पीएम मोदी ने अपने प्लान को देश के युवाओं के सामने पेश तो किया ही है. इसके अलावा उनसे भी आइडिया मांगे जा रहे हैं. इसे 'विकसित भारत @2047: वॉइस ऑफ यूथ' का नाम दिया गया है.

क्या-क्या बोले पीएम मोदी पीएम मोदी ने इस अवसर पर अपने संबोधन में कहा कि ये आजादी का अमृतकाल है और भारत के लिए तरक्की की राह पर फर्राटा भरने का 'यही समय है-सही समय है.' पूरी युवा पीढ़ी इस समय अपनी ऊर्जा के माध्यम से देश को आगे ले जाने के लिए तैयार है. आजादी मिलने के समय जिस तरह युवा जोश ने देश को आगे बढ़ाया, ठीक उसी तरह अब युवाओं का लक्ष्य और संकल्प एक ही होना चाहिए कि- 'विकसित देश कैसे बनेगा भारत'.

अपने दायरे से बाहर जाकर सोचना होगा ऐसा क्या करें कि भारत विकसित बनने के अपने मार्ग में तेजी से आगे बढ़े और इसके लिए देश की युवा ऊर्जा को ऐसे ही लक्ष्य के लिए चैनलाइज करना है. देश की यूनिवर्सिटी के वाइस चांसलर्स से भी पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि युवाओं के साथ शिक्षकों को भी 'विकसित भारत @ 2047' के लक्ष्य में योगदान देने के लिए आउट ऑफ द बॉक्स यानी अपने दायरे से बाहर जाकर सोचना होगा.

बेहतरीन आइडिया के लिए पुरस्कार पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि आइडिया और इंडिया में I सबसे पहले आता है और ये आइडिया ही सबसे कारगर तरीका होगा. विकसित भारत के विजन के तहत लॉन्च किए गए पोर्टल पर पांच अलग-अलग सुझाव दिए जा सकते हैं. सबसे बेहतरीन 10 सुझावों और आइडिया के लिए पुरस्कारों की भी व्यवस्था की गई है. उन्होंने कहा कि हमें ऐसी युवा पीढ़ी को विकसित करना है जो आने वाले समय में देशहित को सर्वोपरि रखते हुए भारत को तरक्की की राह पर सबसे आगे बनाए रख सके.

कैसे बनते हैं विकसित देश किसी देश को विकसित तब माना जाता है, जब उस देश के लोगों की आमदनी ज्यादा हो, विकसित इंडस्ट्री हो, मजबूत इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर हो, वहां के लोग हाई क्वालिटी की जिंदगी जीते हों. 2020 में UN ने 36 देशों को विकसित देश माना था. भारत को विकसित देशों की लिस्ट में शामिल होने के लिए चार पैमानों ग्रॉस नेशनल इनकम (GNI), पर कैपिटा इनकम (PCI), ग्रॉस डोमेस्टिक प्रोडक्शन (GDP) और ह्रयूमन डेवलेपमेंट इंडेक्स (HDI) पर खरा उतरना होगा.

विकसित देशों की लिस्ट में पहले स्थान पर है नॉर्वे दुनिया में कई ऐसे देश हैं, जो विकसित देशों की लिस्ट में आते हैं. इसमें सबसे पहला नाम नॉर्वे का है. इसके बाद अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, जापान, जर्मनी, कनाडा, फ्रांस, रूस, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, इटली, स्वीडन और स्विटजरलैंड ऐसे देश हैं जो इस लिस्ट में शुमार हैं. दुनिया में सबसे अधिक विकसित लोकतंत्र और न्यायिक देश नॉर्वे को माना जाता है.

प्रतिव्यक्ति आय से श्रेणी का निर्धारण संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने प्रतिव्यक्ति आय के आधार पर देशों को कम आय, निम्न मध्यम आय, उच्च मध्यम आय की श्रेणियों में रखा है. 1. 1,086-4,255 डॉलर की आय होने पर निम्न मध्यम आय वाला देश. 2. 4,256-13,205 डॉलर की आय होने पर उच्च मध्यम आय वाला देश. 3. 13,205 डॉलर से अधिक आय होने पर उच्च आय वाला देश.

प्रति व्यक्ति आय बढ़ाना होगा विकसित देशों की मौजूदा परिभाषा के मुताबिक प्रति व्यक्ति आय 9.5 लाख रुपए से 12 लाख रुपए सालाना होनी चाहिए. अभी के सिनेरियो में अगर भारत को विकसित देशों की कतार में खड़ा होना है तो प्रति व्यक्ति आय में करीब 7-8 गुना बढ़ोतरी करनी होगी. 2021 में चीन की प्रति व्यक्ति आय 12,556 डॉलर, यानी करीब 9.74 लाख रुपए सालाना थी. 2021 में अमेरिका की प्रति व्यक्ति आय 69,287 डॉलर थी, यानी करीब 55.24 लाख रुपए सालाना थी. 2021 में ब्रिटेन की प्रति व्यक्ति आय 47,334 डॉलर, यानी करीब 37.62 लाख रुपए सालाना थी.

भारत को विकसित देश बनने के लिए क्या-क्या करना होगा 1. जीडीपी: किसी भी देश की आर्थिक सेहत कैसी है? इसका पता ग्रॉस डोमेस्टिक प्रोडक्ट यानी जीडीपी से लगाया जाता है. इस समय दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था अमेरिका है. भारत को विकसित देश बनने के लिए जीडीपी बढ़ाना होगा.

2. प्रति व्यक्ति आय: विकसित देश होने का एक पैमाना प्रति व्यक्ति आय भी है. इससे पता चलता है कि किसी देश में एक व्यक्ति सालभर में औसतन कितना कमाता है? भारत की प्रति व्यक्ति आय कई विकसित देशों से काफी कम है. भारत को प्रति व्यक्ति आय में बढ़ोत्तरी करनी होगी.

3. इंडस्ट्रियलाइजेशन यानी औद्योगिकीकरण: विकसित देश को मापने का एक पैमाना इंडस्ट्रियलाइजेशन भी है. माना जाता है कि जिस देश में जितना ज्यादा इंडस्ट्रियलाइजेशन होगा, वो उतना विकसित होगा. क्योंकि, इंडस्ट्रियलाइजेशन से न सिर्फ रोजगार बढ़ता है, बल्कि किसी देश का इम्पोर्ट (आयात) घटता है और एक्सपोर्ट (निर्यात) बढ़ता है.

अभी भारत का आयात ज्यादा है और निर्यात कम है. भारत को निर्यात बढ़ना होगा. भारत में इंडस्ट्रियलाइजेशन कम होने से ग्लोबल एक्सपोर्ट में इसकी हिस्सेदारी काफी कम है. वर्ल्ड ट्रेड ऑर्गनाइजेशन के मुताबिक, 2020 में ग्लोबल एक्सपोर्ट में भारत की हिस्सेदारी महज 3.6% थी, जबकि चीन का हिस्सा 34% से ज्यादा था.

4. बुनियादी जरूरतें: कोई देश विकसित तब होता है, जब वहां के लोगों को बुनियादी जरूरतें पूरी हों. वहां के लोगों को बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सुविधा, बेहतर शिक्षा और अच्छा रहन-सहन मिले. इसे आंकने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र ह्यूमन डेवलपमेंट इंडेक्स की रैंकिंग जारी करता है. कोई देश कितना विकसित है, इसे ह्यूमन डेवलपमेंट इंडेक्स से भी मापा जाता है.

इस इंडेक्स में देशों को 0 से 1 के स्केल पर मापा जाता है. जितना ज्यादा स्कोर होता है, वहां अच्छी स्वास्थ्य सुविधा, बेहतर शिक्षा और लोगों का रहन-सहन उतना अच्छा माना जाता है. भारत सरकार अधिक से अधिक लोगों की बुनियादी जरूरतें पूरी करनी होंगी.

5. गरीबी मिटानी होगी: इंटरनेशनल लेबर ऑर्गनाइजेशन (ILO) की एक रिपोर्ट बताती है कि विकसित और विकासशील देशों में सबसे बड़ा अंतर वहां की गरीबी है. वर्ल्ड बैंक ने गरीबी रेखा की परिभाषा तय की है. इसके मुताबिक, अगर हर दिन कोई व्यक्ति 2.15 डॉलर (170 रुपए के आसपास) से कम कमा रहा है, तो वो 'बेहद गरीब' माना जाएगा.

भारत में गरीबी रेखा की अलग परिभाषा है. ये परिभाषा तेंदुलकर कमेटी की रिपोर्ट के आधार पर तय की गई थी. इसके मुताबिक, अगर गांव में रहने वाला एक व्यक्ति हर दिन 26 रुपए और शहर में रहने वाला व्यक्ति 32 रुपए खर्च कर रहा है, तो वो गरीबी रेखा से नीचे नहीं माना जाएगा. भारत में पहले के मुताबिक गरीबी काफी कम हुई है. भारत को विकसित देश बनने के लिए गरीबी रेखा को और नीचे लाना होगा.

विकासशील और विकसित देश में क्या है फर्क विकासशील देश, यानी जहां की इंडस्ट्री विकसित हो रही होती है. जीवन स्तर बेहद औसत होता है और मॉडर्न टेक्नोलॉजी की कमी होती है. इस वजह से इन देशों में रहने वाले लोगों की आमदनी भी कम होती है. यूनाइटेड नेशंस के मुताबिक 2020 तक दुनिया के 126 देश विकासशील की लिस्ट में शामिल थे.

आजादी से लेकर अब तक सरकार शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए काम कर रही है लेकिन कुछ लोग ऐसे भी हैं जो शिक्षा के वास्तविक महत्व को नहीं समझ रहे। मेरा सपना है कि 2047 में भारत एक ऐसा देश बने जहां सभी के लिए शिक्षा अनिवार्य हो, ताकि सभी शिक्षित हो सके। शिक्षा किसी देश के आर्थिक एवं सामाजिक विकास के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है।

महिला सशक्तिकरण

वर्तमान में महिलाएं अपने घरों से बाहर निकल रही हैं तथा विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अपनी पहचान बना रही हैं। लेकिन आज भी कुछ क्षेत्रों में पुरुषों से काफी पीछे हैं। 2047 में भारत के लिए मेरा दृष्टिकोण महिलाओं को अधिक शक्तिशाली व आत्मनिर्भर बनने का है। क्योंकि किसी देश के विकास में सिर्फ पुरुषों का ही योगदान नहीं होता बल्कि महिलाओं का भी होता है। वर्तमान में हमें समाज की मानसिकता को बदलना होगा। ताकि महिलाएं भी देश की तरक्की में अपना सम्पूर्ण योगदान दे सकें।

आज भारत में बहुत से पढ़े-लिखे लोग हैं लेकिन भ्रष्टाचार व कई अन्य कारणों से उन्हें अच्छी नौकरी नहीं मिल पा रही है। आज के समय मे योग्यता के अनुसार काम मिल पाना बहुत मुश्किल होता जा रहा है। आज बड़ी – बड़ी डिग्री प्राप्त करने के बाद भी उसके अनुसार काम नहीं मिल पाता। लेकिन 2047 के भारत मे मैं चाहूंगा कि ऐसा ना हो बल्कि ऐसा हो जहां आरक्षित उम्मीदवारों के बजाय योग्य उम्मीदवार को पहले नौकरी मिले तथा योग्यता के अनुसार मिले। ताकि भारत देश की तरक्की हो।

हमे 1947 में आजादी मिली लेकिन फिर भी हम जाति, धर्म व पंथ के भेदभाव से पूरी तरह मुक्ति नहीं पा सके। आज भी देश मे कुछ जगहों पर जाति और धर्म के नाम पर भेदभाव होता है। 2047 का भारत ऐसा होना चाहिए जहां किसी भी तरह का भेदभाव न हो ताकि हम जाति और धर्म से ऊपर उठकर अपने देश और राष्ट्रनिर्माण के लिए कार्य कर सकें।

स्वास्थ्य और फिटनेस

2047 में भारत के लिए मेरा विजन लोगों को अच्छी स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराकर स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था में सुधार करना है, ताकि लोग सेहत और फिटनेस को लेकर भी जागरूक हों। तनावमुक्त व रोगमुक्त होकर हम भारत को हेल्थ सेक्टर में आत्मनिर्भर बना सकते हैं।

भ्रष्टाचार प्रमुख कारणों में से एक है जो राष्ट्र के विकास में बहुत बड़ी बाधा है। 2047 में भारत के लिए इतने सारे सपने हैं जिनको पूरा करने में सबसे बड़ी बाधा भ्रष्टाचार ही है। भ्रष्टाचार के कारण ही देश के विकास में बाधा उत्पन्न हो रही है। लेकिन मैं चाहूंगा कि 2047 में भारत भ्रष्टाचार मुक्त हो ताकि देश अच्छी तररकी कर सके।

सन् 2047 भारत की आजादी के 100 साल पूरे हो जाएंगे। वर्तमान में हम सभी भारत की आजादी के 75 साल पूरे होने की खुशी में भारत की आजादी का अमृत महोत्सव मना रहे हैं। अमृत महोत्सव में विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जा रहा है। और साथ ही 25 साल आगे के भारत को देखने की कोशिश की जाने लगी है लोग अपने-अपने दृष्टिकोण सामने रख रहे हैं।

आज इसी कड़ी में सन् 2047 को लेकर हम अपना दृष्टिकोण व्यक्त करने की कोशिश करेंगे।

शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में

किसी भी देश की नीव उसके युवा और अर्थव्यवस्था पर टिकी होती है। आज से 14 सालों के भीतर देश की शिक्षा और उसकी पद्धति में काफी सुधार आ जायेगा। भविष्य में स्कूलों में ही टेक्निकल एजुकेशन के साथ प्रायोगिक शिक्षा देना प्रारंभ कर दिया जाएगा। जिससे बच्चों की बौद्धिक क्षमता का विकास हो सकेगा। आने वाले समय में उच्च शिक्षा के लिए विदेश के बजाए लोग भारत को चुनेंगे।

कृषि क्षेत्र में

कृषि क्षेत्र भारत के महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों में से एक है। भारत की कृषि से न केवल यहां के देशवासी द्वारा उपभोग किया जाता है, बल्कि भारत से कई किस्म के अनाज और दालें विदेशों में एक्सपोर्ट की जाती हैं। आज भी यह स्थिति है, कि भारत के अधिकतर किसानों के पास उन्नत खेती करने के लिए उपकरण और साधन मौजूद नहीं है। जिसके कारण उन्हें खेती करने में कठिनाई महसूस होती है। लेकिन 2047 तक देश के सभी किसानों के पास उपयोगी उपकरण और साधन मौजूद होगें जिससे पूर्ण रूप से उन्नत खेती की जा सकेगी।

स्मार्ट सिटी

भारत में आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस, आईओटी जैसी तकनीक का इस्तेमाल दैनिक जीवन में किया जाएगा। स्मार्ट सिटी में ऑटोमेटेड, स्ट्रीट लाइट, थीफ डिटेक्टर, स्मार्ट डस्टबिन जैसे ऑडोमेटेड स्मॉल गैजेट्स और टेक्निक्स होंगी, जो लोगों के जीवन को आसान, तेज और सुरक्षित बना देगा।

सुरक्षा के क्षेत्र में

कोई भी देश तब ही विकसित हो पाता है, जब उस देश की सुरक्षा और गोपनीयता बरकाकर रहे। भारत की सुरक्षा एजेंसी और फौज देश की सुरक्षा के लिए तकनीक का उपयोग कर रहें हैं, वह 2047 तक और बेहतर हो जायेगी। देश आंतरिक रूप से तभी बेहतर कर पाएगा, जब उसे बाहरी सुरक्षा मिलेगी। इसलिए ही 2047 तक भारत को विकाशिल देश से विकसित की श्रेणी में लाने के लिए सुरक्षा के क्षेत्र को तकनीक द्वारा मजबूती प्रदान की जाएगी

इस मौके पर पूरा देश आजादी का अमृत महोत्सव मना रहा है। आजादी का अमृत महोत्सव के माध्यम से भारत अपने लोगों, संस्कृति और उपलब्धियों के गौरवशाली इतिहास का जश्न मना रहा है।

25 साल बाद साल 2047 में देश को आजादी मिले 100 साल हो जाएंगे। आने वाले 25 वर्ष देश के लिए “अमृत काल” होगा।

मेरे पास 2047 में भारत के लिए एक बड़ा दृष्टिकोण है। हमें 2047 तक भ्रष्टाचार, गरीबी, बेरोजगारी, कुपोषण और निरक्षरता की समस्याओं को दूर करना होगा।

2047 में मेरे दृष्टि का भारत एक ऐसा भारत होगा जहां घर से लेकर सड़कों, कार्यस्थल हर जगह महिलाएं सुरक्षित रहेंगी । साथ ही यह एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां सभी के लिए समानता की स्वतंत्रता होगी।

यह एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां जाति, रंग, लिंग, सामाजिक या आर्थिक स्थिति और नस्ल का कोई भेदभाव नहीं होगा।

मेरा विजन है कि भारत खाद्यान्न के मामले में आत्मनिर्भर होगा और 2047 की भारत की महिलाएं सशक्त होंगी। और महिलाओं को पुरुषों के समान अधिकार मिलेगा एवं उन्हें कार्यस्थल पर भी किसी दुर्व्यवहार का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा।

हमारा देश धर्मनिरपेक्ष बना रहना चाहिए जहां सभी धर्मों के साथ समान व्यवहार किया जाता है और यही भारत की मजबूती एवं ताकत है ।

गरीब बच्चों को शिक्षा मिलनी चाहिए। हालांकि देश पिछले 75 साल से लगातार विकास की राह पर है।

लेकिन आने वाले 25 सालों में हम भारतीयों को उतना ही ताकतवर बनना होगा जितना पहले कभी नहीं थे। वर्ष 2047 के संबंध में, हमें एक लक्ष्य निर्धारित करना होगा कि स्वतंत्रता के 100 वर्ष पूरे करने के बाद हम भारत को कहां देखते हैं।

Poverty is another issue which will be completely eradicated from every society in India in the year 2047. The current situation in India is not good with respect to poverty. Poverty can be seen in every part of India. Many people and children are dying due to this. Furthermore, poverty is due to many reasons. One of the reasons is that the people are not educated. Due to the lack of education, people are not getting jobs and the result of this is poverty.

I see India as poverty free in the year 2047 as the current government has taken massive steps to reduce poverty in India. The government has initiated many courses to teach the skills to the students so that they can join the manufacturing industries. In the year 2047, India would be free of poverty due to the current policies initiated by the government of India.

I see Indian citizens in 2047 using public transport as their conveyance used to travel to their work and back home. I visualize Indian cities completely free of petrol and diesel vehicles. I see people using bicycles as a substitute for visiting the places near them. In 2047, people will completely switch to electric vehicles and CNG vehicles. As a result, we will see fewer diseases related to air pollution. There will be fewer citizens who will die of strokes and lung cancer which are caused by Air Pollution.

One of my visions for India in 2047 is that there we will see women empowered. We have currently experienced that most Indian women are not independent in terms of finance and many other important aspects. They are not included in making a decision whether we see this in the workplace or in our home. They are just limited to household chores. But the current Indian government has taken many impressive steps to empower the woman of our nation. Today, women are taking initiative by joining many multinational companies and getting paid a decent salary. What to Know About Holi, India’s Most Colorful Tradition

The ancient festival has Hindu roots, but growing numbers worldwide are taking part in the celebration, which features bonfires, singing, dancing, prayer, feasting and clouds of pigmented powder.

A rainbow haze swirls through India, where raucous laughter rings out as friends and strangers douse one another with fists full of pigmented powder. It is time for the ancient Hindu tradition of Holi, an annual celebration of spring.

In 2024, crimson, emerald, indigo and saffron clouds will hover over the country on March 25 for one of its most vibrant, joyful and colorful festivals.

“Playing Holi,” as Indians say, has spread far beyond India’s borders.

The revelry starts at sundown.

Holi (pronounced “holy”), also known as the “festival of colors,” starts on the evening of the full moon during the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna, which falls around February or March.

It begins with the kindling of bonfires. People gather around the flames to sing, dance and pray for an evening ritual called Holika Dahan, which re-enacts the demise of a Hindu demoness, Holika.

All sorts of things are thrown into the fires, like wood, leaves and food, in a symbolic purge of evil and triumph of good.

From Delhi, Archie Singhal, 24, visits her family in Gujarat the day before Holi, when the fire is lit in the evening. The next morning, she prepares for the bursts of powder, called gulal, by applying oil on her body so the colors don’t stick to her skin. She puts on old clothes she doesn’t mind tossing.

Why the colors?

Holi’s roots are in Hinduism. The god Krishna, cursed by a demon with blue skin, complained to his mother, asking why his love interest Radha is fair while he is not. His mother, Yashoda, playfully suggests that he paint Radha’s face with any colors he wishes. So Krishna smears color on her so they look alike.

Holi is in part a celebration of the love between Krishna and Radha that looks past differences. Today, some of the gulal used during Holi is synthetic. But the colors traditionally come from natural ingredients, such as dried flowers, turmeric, dried leaves, grapes, berries, beetroot and tea.

“There is an environment of freedom,” Ms. Singhal said, adding that she doesn’t hesitate to throw colors on her younger brother, parents, aunts, uncles and neighbors.

Everyone takes part.

The ancient Hindu festival eschews the religious, societal, caste and political divisions that underpin India’s often sectarian society . Hindu or not, anybody can be splashed with brightly colored dust, or even eggs and beer.

Some partake in worship, called puja, offering prayers to the gods. For others, Holi is a celebration of community. The festival gets everyone involved — including innocent passers-by.

“People forget their misunderstandings or enmity during this occasion and again become friends,” said Ratikanta Singh, 63, who writes, sometimes about Holi, in Assam, in northeastern India.

There’s a feast.

When not throwing around gulal, friends, families and neighbors partake in a buffet of traditional dishes and drinks. They include gujiya, dumpling-like fried sweets filled with dried fruits and nuts; dahi vada, deep-fried lentil fritters served with yogurt; and kanji, a traditional drink made by fermenting carrots in water and spices.

Some celebrate Holi with thandai, a light green concoction of milk, rose petals, cardamom, almonds, fennel seeds and other ingredients. For thousands of years, the drink has sometimes been laced with bhang, or crushed marijuana leaves, which add to the mood of revelry.

Holi has ancient roots.

Holi has been documented for centuries in Hindu texts. The tradition is observed by people young and old, particularly in Northern India and Nepal, where the stories behind the festival originated.

Holi also marks the harvesting of crops with the arrival of spring in India, where more than half of the population lives in rural areas.

Traditions vary across India.

Holi celebrations are as diverse as the Indian subcontinent. They are particularly wild in North India, considered the birthplace of the Hindu god Krishna, where celebrations can last more than a week.

In Mathura, a northern city where Krishna is said to have been born, people recreate a Hindu story in which Krishna visits Radha to romance her, and her cowherd friends, taking offense at his advances, drive him out with sticks.

In the eastern state of Odisha, people hold a dayslong festival called Dola Purnima . Grand processions of people shouldering richly decorated carriages with idols of Hindu gods are a large part of the festivities there. The processions are full of drumbeats, songs, colorful powder and flower petals thrown into the air.

In southern India, where Holi is not celebrated as widely, many temples carry out religious rites. In the Kudumbi tribal community, in the southwest, temples cut areca palms and transport their trunks to the shrine in a ritual that symbolizes the victory good over evil.

It’s not just in India.

Holi is celebrated around the world, wherever the Indian diaspora has gone. More than 32 million Indians and people of Indian origin are overseas, most in the United States, where 4.4 million reside, according to the Indian government.

It is also widely enjoyed in countries as varied as Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, Britain and other parts of Europe.

Holi is known as Phagwah in the Indian communities of the Caribbean, including in Guyana , Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

The festival has also been used by the Indian government to project soft power and reshape its image as part of its “ Incredible India ” tourism campaign.

On Holi, “the world is a global village,” said Shubham Sachdeva, 29, from an eastern Delhi suburb, who added that his friends in the United States were celebrating Holi with their roommates whether they were Indian or not. “All this brings the world close to each other.”

New Delhi: In the backdrop of rising Chinese aggression and potential threats in the Indo-Pacific region, India and Australia have decided to enhance cooperation and increase operational engagement in the maritime domain, with plans to take navy-to-navy ties to the next level.

This was discussed during the ongoing four-day visit of the chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Vice-Admiral Mark Hammond.

Hammond held wide-ranging discussions with his Indian counterpart, Navy chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar, as well as Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Air Staff V.R. Chaudhari, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane in Delhi.

“Discussions focused on avenues to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation, including increased operational engagements, training exchanges, and information sharing,” the Navy said in a statement on the talks.

“India and Australia share commonality of perspective on several contemporary maritime security issues in the Indo-Pacific and have been working together closely in several bilateral and multilateral fora such as Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) and ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM Plus) and QUAD,” the statement added.

Important security partner

Last year, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also visited the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. In September 2023, India, Australia and Indonesia held a joint maritime exercise for the first time, where INS Sahyadri participated. Australia considers India as one of its most important security partners.

Coming on the heels of Royal Australian Ship HMAS Warramunga’s successful participation in MILAN 24, and the recently conducted maritime exercises, the visit by the chief of the Royal Australian Navy further consolidates the strong and long-lasting bilateral relations between both navies, said the Navy.

During the AUSINDEX naval drill that took place in August 2023, both the navies aimed at higher levels of interoperability and coordination. In a first, INS Vagir – the Navy’s fifth Kalvari class submarine – participated in last year’s Malabar Exercise.

In a January 2024 interview to ABP LIVE, the High Commissioner of Australia to India, Philip Green, said Delhi was an indispensable partner for Canberra when it came to the Indo-Pacific.
