You can record your PowerPoint presentation—or just a single slide—and capture voice, ink gestures, and your video presence. The completed recording is like any other presentation. You can play it for your audience in Slide Show or you can export it as a video file. So instead of just handing the deck to someone, people can see your presentation with all your passion and personality intact.
Record is an improved version of Record Slide Show for PowerPoint for Windows. The feature replaces the older experience and provides enhanced capabilities for capturing your presentations for later viewing.

The new Record window has two screens: Record and Export .
When you select Record , the Record screen opens by default.
If you select Export in the top right of the Record screen, the Export screen opens.
You can switch between the Record and Export screens using the Record and Export buttons in the top bar of the window.

New Export window
The Export window is another change with the Record feature. After recording, you’ll be lead through instructions to create a shareable video file of your presentation. By default, the video is in Full HD 1080p resolution in an mp4 format and will be saved to the same location where the presentation is stored.
The exported video includes all recorded timings, narration, animations, transitions, media, ink, and laser pointer gestures. If there's no recorded timings for a slide in the presentation, the slide will be displayed for 5 seconds in the exported video by default.
By default, the exported video has the same filename as the presentation, but you can create a unique filename for the exported video, if you want.
Depending on the size of your presentation, it may take a few minutes to export. After the export starts, you can track its progress in the Export window. You can also exit the Record window and track the progress in the status bar in PowerPoint.
The Customize Export button takes you to the backstage export menu to change resolution and time spent on each slide in the exported video.
Recording tips
Recordings are added to the presentation on a per-slide basis. If you want to change a recording, you can re-record one or more slides. You can rearrange the order of slides in a recorded presentation without having to re-record anything. This also means it's easy to pause for a break while recording a presentation.
PowerPoint doesn't record audio or video during transitions between slides, so be sure not to narrate while advancing the slide. There's also a brief buffer of silence at the beginning and the end of each slide.
Use video preview to make sure everything is set up correctly before recording.
Presentation recording works best with touch-screen PCs that have a web camera but you can use an external webcam and/or microphone.
If you're using PowerPoint on a tablet or laptop and you're inking with a stylus, you can use an external camera and microphone to minimize stylus noise.
After you finish your first slide recording, play it back to make sure your audio and video are set up the way you expect.
You can adjust and edit the size of video and ink in edit view.

1. Grab a Screenshot of Active Window: If an active window is maximized, the window will show up in the dropdown menu. Select the whole window of a maximized app from the dropdown menu to instantly add it.
2. Choose to Grab Screenshot from Multiple Active Windows: If more than one window is maximized, you can choose between the window you wish to capture instantly.
3. Select Area to Grab Screenshot: Alternatively, select Screen Clipping to grab a part of the screen to save as a screenshot.
To grab screenshots from a selected area, drag the mouse over the space from which you wish to save a screenshot.

You can create as many slides as required, as you can go through each step if the procedure is too complex to be explained.
There can be many benefits of including screenshots in PowerPoint, either directly by using the default screenshot tool in PowerPoint or by using a third-party tool. Saved screenshots in PowerPoint can also be separately saved, shared, and compressed according to need. When taking screenshots, ensure that your monitor is set to a high resolution.
As your resolution increases, so does the size of the screenshot. This might mean that you may need to compress the screenshot to reduce the size of your PowerPoint file. This might especially be important if you want to share your presentation file as an attachment, as many mail servers do not support files higher than 25 MB. Alternatively, you can share your PowerPoint file via a OneDrive link if it is too heavy to be sent as an attachment.

In this guide, I’ll cover several methods for taking screenshots of PowerPoint slides on both Windows and Mac. We’ll also discuss how to edit and format screenshots and some of the many applications for PowerPoint slide screenshots.
Let’s get started!
Screenshot a PowerPoint slide using keyboard shortcuts
For quick one-off screenshots, you can use these keyboard shortcuts:
- Windows: Press the Print Screen key to copy the entire screen to the clipboard. Then, paste the image into PowerPoint or another app.
- Mac: Press Shift-Command-3 to take a screenshot of the full screen and save it as a file on the desktop.
The main limitation of keyboard shortcuts is they capture the entire screen, not just the PowerPoint window. You’ll need to crop out the rest of the screen. Alternatively, you might want to run the slideshow before taking a screenshot.
Screenshot a PowerPoint slide by saving it as an image
This method gives you the flexibility to export slides in different image formats quickly. It’s essentially exporting the slide as an image .
- Go to File > Save As .
- In the Save as type dropdown, select an image format like JPEG or PNG .

- Go to Start , search for “Snipping Tool,” and open the program.

- In Snipping Tool, select one of the capture modes: Free-form Snip , Rectangular Snip , Window Snip , or Full-screen Snip .

3 Best Ways to Extract Images From a PowerPoint Presentation
When you create a PowerPoint presentation, you’re likely to add images to enhance the visual appeal and convey information effectively. But what if you want to save those carefully chosen images for later use? Fortunately, there are several ways to extract images from your PowerPoint presentation.
Whether you want to extract just one or two images from your PowerPoint file or all of them, saving images from your presentation is fairly straightforward. This guide will walk you through three different methods to achieve this. So, let’s get right to it.
1. Use the ‘Save as Picture’ Option
The ‘Save as Picture’ option is the quickest way to extract an image from a PowerPoint file. This method is useful if you only want to save one or two images from your PowerPoint presentation. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Launch PowerPoint on your PC and open the PPT from which you want to save images.
Step 2: Locate and select the image you want to extract. Right-click on it and choose the ‘Save as Picture’ option from the context menu.
Step 3: In the Save As Picture dialog, specify where you want to save the image. Then, click the drop-down menu next to Save as type to select your preferred file format for the image.
Step 4: Click the arrow next to the Save button and select ‘Save Original Picture’ to export the high-resolution image.
You can repeat the above steps to extract more images if you like.
Alternatively, if you want to use the image in another program on your PC, right-click on the image in your presentation and select Copy. After that, move to the program where you want to use the file and press Control + V keyboard shortcut to paste the image.
2. Save the PowerPoint Slides as Images
While the ‘Save as Picture’ option makes it easy to save images from your PowerPoint file, it’s not the most efficient method if you are looking to extract all the images from your PowerPoint presentation. In that case, it’s better to save your PowerPoint slides as images (in JPEG or PNG format ) using the steps below.
Step 1: Open the PowerPoint file from which you want to save images.
Step 2: Click the File menu at the top-left corner.
Step 3: Select Save As from the left pane. Then, click the Browse button.
Step 4: Click the drop-down menu next to Save as type to select ‘JPEG File Interchangeable Format’ or ‘PNG Portable Network Graphics Format’ from the list.
Step 5: Click the Save button.
Step 6: Select All Slides when the prompt appears.
After you complete the above steps, all the images within your presentation will be saved separately in the specified location.
3. Add a ZIP Extension to the Presentation File and Extract It
Another way to save all the images from a PowerPoint file simultaneously involves converting the presentation into a ZIP file and then extracting the file on your computer . This method allows you to save all of the images in your presentation in their original format. Here are the steps you can follow.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + E keyboard shortcut to open File Explorer and locate the PowerPoint from which you want to save images.
Step 2: Right-click on your file and select the rename option.
Step 3: Replace the PPTX or PPTM extension with the ZIP extension. Select Yes when the confirmation prompt appears.
Step 4: Right-click on the renamed file and select Extract All.
Step 5: Use the Browse button to select a location where you want to extract the file and click on Extract.
Step 6: Navigate to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file and double-click the ‘ppt’ folder.
Step 7: Double-click the ‘media’ folder to view all the images extracted from your presentation in their original format.
Step 8: Once you have all the images, you can rename the ZIP file and add the PPTX or PPTM extension to recover your original presentation.
Saving the Heart of Your Presentation
PowerPoint presentations are excellent for sharing information and ideas. Sometimes, you only need the images from a presentation, not the entire thing. Fortunately, extracting images from your PowerPoint presentation is rather simple using the methods mentioned above.

Connecting to capture is relatively easy, and there are several ways to connect.
CITP (Does not require hardware, unlimited universes)
sACN (Requires hardware, limited universes from hardware)
- ArtNet (Requires hardware, limited universes from hardware)
Note that CITP requires Hog 4 software version 3.12.0 or newer in order to function. This is the recommended protocol to use. CITP does not require hardware to output data. Hog 4 users can use CITP to previs using Hog 4 PC without any extra hardware, as well as previs on a console that has less output that Capture.
