India is my country. It is a land of diverse cultures, languages, and religions living in unity and harmony. India is also called ‘Bharat’ or ‘Hindustan’ in its native languages. The Indian flag is tricoloured with stripes of saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom with the Ashoka Chakra in the centre. India is also known as the land of spirituality and philosophy. People from different countries come to India to seek spiritual guidance. Even the practice of Yoga, now globally popular, originated in ancient India.

I am a proud Indian. If we strive for it, we can make India prosper and become a world leader in the future.

Writing an essay on their country encourages children to learn about their motherland and pick up some facts and general knowledge about their heritage. The essay also teaches children how to assimilate these facts and put them together in a coherent written format for their writing assignments. The essay can touch upon various aspects of the country, such as history, geographical and demographic facts, and noteworthy accomplishments. The ‘My Country’ Essay You Need To Read Before You Graduate: Yep, Not Kidding!

As the title mentions – we are not kidding! This is honestly the ‘My Country essay’ you need to read before you graduate. And if you have already graduated, read it nonetheless – because we are about present radical ideas, and we want to know what you all think about these opinions.

Patriotism comprises several elements – from love for your country to respecting your country. There’s more than one factor that has a solid impact on how you feel about your country – more importantly, what patriotism means.

So sit tight as we embark on this exciting (or plain controversial) journey to discuss patriotism and everything that it entails. Stay tuned to find out more.

The ‘My Country’ Essay You Need To Read Before You Graduate: Yep, Not Kidding!

If you thought this was your ordinary, every day, my country essay in English, then you are kinda wrong. You can call it average, sure, but the approach we are trying to introduce to essay writing is anything but average.

Essays were originally meant to be written with a personal viewpoint, but with time, writing about general viewpoints somehow became the order of the day. So, this is us trying to bring back how essays were meant to be written – scroll down to read more!

But First, What Is Patriotism?

What Is Patriotism

According to Collins Dictionary , “ Patriotism is love for your country and loyalty toward it. ”

Similarly, according to Merriam-Webster , “ love for or devotion to one’s country. ”

And that’s all!

According to Britannica , “ Patriotism is a feeling of attachment and commitment to a country, nation, or political community. Patriotism (love of country) and nationalism (loyalty to one’s nation) are often taken to be synonymous, yet patriotism has its origins some 2,000 years prior to the rise of nationalism in the 19th century. ”

The above definitions have made one thing really clear – Patriotism is not just love for your country. It’s also an attachment and devotion to your homeland, accompanied by a distinctive attachment to different other citizens who are also patriotic.

These feelings are often bound up by various factors such as shared history, culture, religious beliefs, and ethnicity.

‘My Country,’ Patriotism, And Historic Perspective:

My Country,’ Patriotism, And Historic Perspective

The concept of Patriotism first originated about 2000 years ago, even before the idea of Nationalism started making waves in the nineteenth century. Both Roman and Greek antiquity provides the philosophical roots of patriotism, which is about conceiving loyalty to ‘patria’ – any family’s male head would enjoy power over his children.

Patriotism is related to the love of common liberty and law, the deep search for a greater good, and the simple duty of being just to one’s country. The Roman ideology of Patria can be seen repeated in the political structure of 15th-century Italian city-states like Venice and Naples.

Niccolò Machiavelli was an Italian diplomat, historian, philosopher, and author from the Renaissance period. To Machiavelli, the love for common independence enabled all citizens to view their public as well as private interests as a big part of what’s considered to be commonly good, thereby helping them to just resist tyranny and corruption.

The love for a city or country is generally blended with a sense of pride in its cultural superiority and military strength. Understand this – it is the simple way of living in the country and the political institutions that together create a distinctive focal point which in turn boosts such kind of patriotic attachment.

English Essay on “My Country” complete Paragraph and Speech for School, College Students, essay for Class 8, 9, 10, 12 and Graduation Classes.

My country is always fore-most in my thoughts. I can sacrifice everything, including’ my life for the sake of my country. I always think of my country having an honourable place in the comity of nations. Everybody is proud of his country and so am I. It is my heart-felt desire to see my country progress by leaps and bounds.

I love my country, my motherland. India. I want to see her grow from strength to strength because weak nations attract invasions from powerful countries. Also a weak nation has no right to exist. Weak nations are always devoured by powerful nations. Therefore, I wish to see my country powerful, economically and militarily. Only political independence will not help the country. Economic independence is necessary and must accompany political independence. And there is no doubt our country is heading towards economic independence through its Five Years Plans.

India is a lovely country endowed with beautiful mountains, valleys, plains, rivers and forests. It has a long sea-coast. It has all types of climates to enjoy. It has majestic monuments and buildings of historical importance.

India is the biggest democracy of the world. We elect our own government through general elections. It is the representatives of the people who rule the country keeping in view the welfare of its citizens. India is a welfare state where the good of the people is foremost in the thoughts of its people and government.

India is the most populous country in the world, next only to China. Only weak thing is its human resources have not been properly harnessed so far. But now steps have been taken to tap this potential. However, the population explosion is also worrying the countrymen. Government of India is taking steps to check the growing trend in population through various family planning programmes.

India has had an old civilization and culture. Its traditions and culture are very rich. But some of them have now outlived their utility and the same are being shed through cultural and educational awakening. People are getting rid of superstitions and are becoming more scientific in their attitude towards life.

India is primarily a land of villages Almost eighty per cent of its population live and work in the countryside. But the villagers are mostly illiterate and they are not able to catch up with modern science and technology. Now the state governments have decided to take up projects for their welfare. Also steps are being taken to educate them and train them to improve their lot through various welfare programmes like 20-point programme.

India of today, that is, Modern India, is no more the land of magic as it was thought to be earlier. Now-a-days, India is marching on the road to development through industrialization and mechanization of agriculture. Our country is producing most of the industrial goods including aircrafts and battle tanks.

I am very much proud of my country. If politicians avoid interfering with the various aspects of life and work with devotion and dedication India can still scale newer heights in every field of life.

Everyone loves their motherland in which they live. They grow up and spend their whole life in that land. The love of a person for his country cannot be expressed in words.

Our country is our identity and no matter what part of the world we go to, we will always represent our country.

My beloved Country is India

Our country India is also known by the names Hindustan and Bharat. We got Independence on 15th August 1947. Many patriots sacrificed their lives for this land and to give freedom to their future generation.

India is the 7th largest and second most populated country in the world with a population of 1.366 billion. It is a democratic country with parliamentary system where people have the right to make their own decision about country and government.

Its capital is New Delhi. There are 7 union territories and 29 states here and, in those states, there are many small cities and villages. Among these states, Madhya Pardesh is the largest and Goa is the smallest state.

Our flag is tri-colored; saffron, white and green. Saffron color stands for purity and cleanliness, the white color in the middle stands for peace and the lowest green color stands for fertility. There is an Ashoka chakra on this white color. There are 24 spokes in this Ashoka Chakra which represent 24 hours of the day.

India is surrounded by oceans from three sides. Bay of Bengal lies in east, Indian ocean in South and Arabian sea lies in the west side. In the north side, there is great Himalayas which is the highest mountain range in this world.

It has 9 highest peaks of this world including Mount Everest. Our neighbors are Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It is a beautiful country having so many wonderful places. There are so many captivating places, beaches, forests, lakes and caves here which attract tourists from all over the world.

There are famous places like Taj Mahal , Red Fort, Golden temple, Qutab Minar, amber palace and Kashmir which are truly wonders in this world. Taj Mahal is also included in the list of seven wonders of the world.

National bird of India is peacock. The significance of peacock is related to cultural diversity in India. National animal of India is Tiger because of its strength and speed.

Our country is the land of fields and villages. Its soil is very fertile and yields finest crops. That is the reason that it is known as the largest wheat producer in the world.

Much of the country’s economy is dependent on this agriculture. The highest irrigated crop here are sugarcane, cotton, wheat and rice. Even though people of different religions live here and they worship their Gods yet they live in so much peace and harmony.

They are free to follow their own cultures and speak their own language without any hindrance. That is why India is famous for its ‘unity in diversity’. We should be proud that our country is admired all over the world for its rich cultures and traditions.

Our country is our proud. Our people have made many contributions in the field of science, arts, math, music, dance, mathematics and sports and earned many medals for country. We are proud to be the inhabitants of this country.

Many people devoted their lives just to make this country free from the chains of slavery. Now it is up to this young generation to maintain the uniqueness and make this country prouder. We need to understand that we will strengthen our country when we work together.

My Country / Bangladesh

Introduction: The name of my country is Bangladesh, Its official (প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক) name is the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In the past, it was a part of the Indian subcontinent (উপমহাদেশ) and then Pakistan. It became an independent country after a bloody (রক্তক্ষয়ী) war in 1971.

Land Area and Boundaries: The total land area of Bangladesh is 57,320 square miles (148,460 square kilometers). It is bounded (আবদ্ধ) by the Indian states of West Bengal to the west and north, Assam to the north, Meghalaya to the north and northeast, and Tripura and Mizoram to the east, by Myanmar (Burma) to the southeast, and by the Bay of Bengal to the south.

Population: The total population of the country is about 164.7 million. It is one of the most densely (ঘনভাবে) populated country in the world. 2,400- 2,700 people live per square mile. The density (ঘনত্ব) of the population is highest in Dhaka. About 4,500 people live per square mile in Dhaka.

Ethnic Composition and Distribution: Bangladesh is a melting (গলন, মিশ্রণ) pot of races (জাতি). The proto-Australoids, sometimes called Veddas, were one of the earliest groups to enter the area. According to some ethnologists (জাতিতত্ত্ববিদ), they were followed by Mediterranean Caucasoids (whites), also known as Aryans. Armenoids (of Indo-European stock) are believed to have entered as well. With the coming of the Muslims in the 8th century AD, new elements were introduced; persons of Arab, Persian, and Turkish origin moved in large numbers to the subcontinent (উপমহাদেশ). By the beginning of the 13th century, they had entered what is now Bangladesh.

Religions: More than 85 percent of the population follows the religion of Islam, which was made the state religion by a 1988 constitutional (সাংবিধানিক) amendment (পরিবর্তন, সংশোধন). The rest of the people are mainly Hindus, Buddhists and Christians.

Festivals: The main festivals in Bangladesh are religious. The two most important are Eid Ul Fitr, which comes at the end of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting (রোজা, উপবাস), and Eid UI Azha, or the festival of sacrifice (ত্যাগ, উৎসর্গ), which follows two and a half months later. On both occasions families and friends exchange (বিনিময় করে) happiness to each other. The Hindus observe different pujas such as Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Janmastami etc. The Buddhists observe Buddha Purnima. The Christian communities also observe their religious festivals like Christmas day and other festivals.

Rivers: The main rivers of the country include the Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna, the Brahmaputra, the Buriganga, the Karnaphuli, the Sitalakshaya, the Dhaleswari, the Tista, the Karatoya, the Surma, the Sangu and the Kusiara. Most of the rivers originate (উৎপত্তি লাভ করা) in the Himalayas and fall into the Bay of Bengal.

Tourist Spots: There are many worth-seeing (দর্শনীয়) places in the country. Some of the important tourist spots of the country are the national museum, the national zoo, Foy’s Lake, Kaptai, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata, Saint Martin, Sunderbans, Ramsagar etc..

Notorious British actress Vivien Leigh, known for playing Scarlett O’Hara in the classic “ Gone With the Wind” was born Vivian Mary Hartley on Nov. 5, 1913, in Darjeeling, India. She returned to England when Vivian was 6 times old.

Most Indians do not watch Bollywood pictures, according to the BBC. The country said to be obsessed with their grandiose musical products has veritably many cinema defences-- compared with defences in the United States.

4. Why were the British reluctant to lose India?

India was maybe the most important to Britain of the homes in the conglomerate. It was run in a different way from the utmost other corridors of the conglomerate because it had been different from other corridors of the conglomerate. India was largely populated. It had been economically developed. There have been countries with governments that were even as complex as Britain. As a result, Britain couldn't march by and take over. British rule developed through a mixture of military units and alliances with Indian autocrats.

By the 1800s, British rule in India was strong. Still, there were only a bitsy number of British dogfaces and directors in India. Indian civil retainers did the maturity of the day-to-day work that allowed British rule to operate. By the 1800s, there were numerous thousands of middle-class Indians who worked in the administration, who spoke English and who had an English education ( frequently entered in India).

5. Is India a good place to live in?

A check reflecting perceptions about 73 countries has thrown up both good and bad news for India. The check says India is among the stylish 25 countries to live in 2020. There are only four other Asian countries; China, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates in the list.

India has moved two places up within the check, conducted by the US News and therefore the World Report in association with the Wharton School of the US, over its 2019 ranking. It was ranked 27 last time.

But the check also showed that people don't have a truly good perception about India in the matters of raising children in the country or the status of women also.

In the list of stylish countries to raise children, India stands at 59th position. A disciplinarian nation like Singapore is ranked 22, and indeed countries facing internal strife analogous to Kenya and Egypt are placed above India in the list of stylish countries to raise children.

6. Why did the British give freedom to India?

World War II had a profound effect on the social powers because it completely destroyed their husbandry. Hitler destroyed the husbandry of Britain and France to such an extent that they were no longer suitable to financially maintain their military forces, and were hence unfit to contain the burgeoning freedom movements in their colonies. It's worth noting that Britain was in such bad shape that it entered about one-fourth of the total aid given under the Marshall Plan.

Anyhow, Gandhi or any other leader, Britain would have left India in 1947 purely for financial reasons, due to its wholly collapsed economy. After WWII, Britain left not only India but nearly all its other goods, including Jordan in 1946, Palestine in 1947, Sri Lanka in 1948, Myanmar in 1948, Egypt in 1952 and Malaysia in 1957.

For the same reason, France also had to grant independence to Laos in 1949 and Cambodia in 1953, and had to leave Vietnam in 1954; the Netherlands also left the ultimate of its colonies called Dutch East Indies, mainly Indonesia in 1949. Had there been no Hitler and no World War II, it most presumably would have taken another 30 or farther times for India and some of the other colonies to achieve independence.

Acutely aware that they were breaking historical ground from the grand assembly room inside Versailles Palace, the politicians delivered impassioned speeches about women’s rights around the world, paid homage to the courageous Frenchwomen who had fought for abortion rights when it was illegal and leaped up time and again to offer standing ovations.

“We are sending the message to all women: Your body belongs to you and no one has the right to control it in your stead,” Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said, before the gathered lawmakers voted 780-72 for the amendment.

The amendment declares abortion to be a “guaranteed freedom,” overseen by Parliament’s laws. That means future governments will not be able to “drastically modify” the current laws funding abortion for women who seek one, up to 14 weeks into their pregnancies, according to the French justice minister, Éric Dupond-Moretti.

Amending the Constitution is not without precedent in France; the current Constitution has been modified over 20 times since it was adopted in 1958. But it is rare. Lawmakers last amended it in 2008.

The motivation for the latest change was the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, an issue raised repeatedly by legislators. But the move also reflects the widespread support for abortion in France, and a successful campaign by a coalition of feminist activists and lawmakers from multiple parties.

“France is showing the right to abortion is no longer an option, it’s a condition of our democracy,” said Mélanie Vogel, a Green Party senator and major force behind the bill.

Ms. Vogel said in an interview, “I want to send a message to feminists outside of France. Everyone told me a year ago it was impossible.” She added: “Nothing is impossible when you mobilize society.”

The Vatican and the French Conference of Bishops opposed the amendment , as did anti-abortion activist groups. But in France, a country where calls to protest regularly bring hundreds of thousands to the streets, opposition was notably scarce.

Instead, hundreds of Parisians gathered Monday afternoon in Trocadéro Square to watch the vote broadcast on a large screen. “We hope it guarantees our rights, especially in the face of the terrifying threat of the extreme right,” said Yanna Antigny-Fernandes, 21, moments before the final count was declared, to the sound of celebratory screams and Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls).”

“It’s Simone de Beauvoir who said that women’s rights were the first freedoms to be attacked.”

With the vote, France became the first country in the world to explicitly write access to abortion into its Constitution, according to five constitutional experts.

“It’s not stating reproductive choices or the right to have children; it’s a very different language when you say access to abortion,” said Anna Sledzinska-Simon, a professor of comparative constitutions and human rights law at the University of Wroclaw in Poland. “The French are calling it by its name — that’s crucial.”

Constitutional experts say the amendment broadens the mold of France’s fundamental text, written by men for men.

“It’s a big milestone, because it goes to the very foundation of this idea that constitutions were about men’s autonomy,” said Ruth Rubio-Marín, author of a book on gender and constitutions , noting that historically women were only defined as “breeders and caretakers.”

Other constitutions, like Ecuador’s, have been broadened to include things like support for caregiving and the equal division of domestic work. But they often remain aspirational, said Ms. Rubio-Marín, who teaches constitutional law at the University of Seville in Spain.

“That this is happening in the Old World, in an established democracy where the constitution is taken seriously — in that way, it’s historic,” she said.

The fight for legal abortion in France burst into public view in 1971, when 343 Frenchwomen signed a manifesto written by the French feminist Simone de Beauvoir declaring that they had undertaken clandestine, illegal abortions and demanding that the law change.

Four years later, a female minister, Simone Veil , successfully pushed through a temporary law decriminalizing abortions.

Throughout Monday’s special legislative session, lawmakers paid tribute to Ms. Veil, as well as Gisèle Halimi , the former lawyer whose defense of a 16-year-old student who had endured an illegal abortion after having been raped led to her acquittal in 1972.

“We have followed in your footsteps and like you, we succeeded,” said Senator Laurence Rossignol, a former women’s rights minister. She added that French feminists would continue to fight internationally against “those who resist,” citing politicians including Donald J. Trump and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.

“Liberty, equality, fraternity,” she said, citing France’s national motto. “And, if I could add, sorority.”

Over the past five decades, the law assuring abortion rights has continually been expanded, to the point that it is now considered among the most liberal in Europe. It includes the right to fully funded abortions for women and minors up to the 14th week of pregnancy upon request, with no waiting period or required counseling sessions.

Later abortions are permitted if the pregnancy is deemed a risk to the woman’s physical or psychological health or if the fetus presents certain anomalies.

After the Covid pandemic hit, France quickly ensured that women seeking abortions could receive medical consultations virtually, said Laura Rahm, a researcher at Central European University, in Vienna, who examined access to abortion in France for a five-year European study .

“A system always shines or cracks when it’s put under pressure,” she said. The French system had clearly shone, she said.

Still, studies show that 17 percent of women travel outside their home regions — known as departments in France — for abortion services, sometimes because of a growing shortage of medical facilities locally .

While the law states that women should have a choice of medical or surgical abortions, in practice that’s often not the case, said Sarah Durocher, national co-president of Le Planning Familial, a French equivalent of Planned Parenthood.

Putting the “guaranteed freedom” to have an abortion in the Constitution means that will have to change, she said.

“This will give birth to other things,” said Ms. Durocher, noting that 130 centers offering abortion had closed in France over the past decade. “For example, real policies so there is effective access to abortion.”

Despite the new amendment, French feminists say France remains a male-dominated society where sexism persists . Settling into her perch overseeing the session as the president of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet noted that she was the first woman in French history to preside over such a gathering, a congress of both houses of Parliament.

But unlike in the United States, the issue of abortion in France is not politically charged or highly divisive. Instead, most French people believe abortion is a basic public health service and a woman’s right. A recent 29-country survey showed France with the second-highest support for legalized abortion in the world, after Sweden.

But attempts to introduce abortion into the Constitution had failed before the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade . The decision drove French lawmakers to safeguard the practice, presenting multiple bills within months. Last year, the French government introduced its own bill seeking to enshrine it in the Constitution.

Just last week, members of a coalition of lawmakers and feminist organizations feared that the Senate, dominated by conservatives, might derail the amendment, but it passed.

“We managed to create this environment, where if you voted against this change, it meant you wanted to maintain the right as a legislator to potentially prohibit abortion in the future,” said Ms. Vogel. “So if you are not against abortion, you had no reason not to vote in favor of it.”

She added, “That narrative penetrated society.”
