Sample Athletic Resumes/Player Profile Templates with Recruiting Guides

Resume/player profile template and/or letter only.

And yes, you should have an  athletic resume . If for no other reason, having the resume will allow you to easily complete all of the online player profiles teams require prospects to submit. This way the information will be all in one place.

The following is a list of resources I’ve found and actually opened and looked at. I’ve divided them into two sections, the first has some sort of substantial additional recruiting information along with the samples. The second section includes just sample letters and resume or player profile templates.

With the exception of the first two documents, they are in no particular order. The resources in the samples only section aren’t any better or worse than those that provide some sort of guide as well. In fact, I’ve included some even if I didn’t think they were so great (and indicate such) so you might only open these to use for comparison purposes.

I didn’t include just one best because sometimes you’ll find the best solution for you is to use a little something from a variety of sources. For all of these sources, be sure to double-check with the  NCAA  and  NAIA  for the latest information since very few of these guides are updated on a regular basis. This is especially important given the continuing changing test requirements.

The College Planning Guide for Student Athletes is no longer being updated by the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation Network. This is one resource I have always recommend everyone download. Unfortunately, its replacement,  The College Insider Series: Student Athletes  isn’t nearly as good. The new version includes a sample player profile template and cover letter along with an overview of the different NCAA divisions.

But it’s missing the information on the percentage of athletes going pro. There used to be a sample in-season Division 1 athlete schedule to show the time commitment required. It still includes valuable information and is worth downloading but it’s just not as good as the original. So I’m keeping a  link  to the original for a while until I think the extra information isn’t worth the inclusion of possible outdated information.

This year it was actually difficult to select among the various guides since there are some very detailed ones available. While all covered pretty much the same information, they each had their individual strengths. Since this is about finding the athletic resumes and player profiles, I decided to go with the one with the examples I liked best.

My current choice of if you’re only going to download one item is Chippewa Hills High School’s   Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete.

The Chippewa Hill’s guide includes a description of what should be included on the athletic resume along with its purpose. The athletic resume template is clean and well organized and the sample email/letter is concise and to the point. You’ll also find a timeline for high school athletes; a breakdown of roles and responsibilities for students, parents, counselors, and coaches; and the NCAA table showing the estimated probability of competing beyond the high school level.

One thing to pay attention to is that it lists the NCAA approved courses for its own school. You should check with your own school for its  NCAA  list of approved courses. Another thing to be aware of is that eligibility information is outdated. Everyone’s going to be since it was only 2023 that the NCAA dropped the test requirements permanently. The download link is just past the middle of the page under Other Information.

South Windsor Public Schools  A College Admissions Guide for the Student Athlete .  Very comprehensive guide with two of each letter and resume examples. It contains one sample letter but it never mentions the college the student is interested in. Pretty standard resume but doesn’t include any sports related stats which is probably a mistake.

The Athletic Factory Planning Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete. I’m not impressed with the sample resume but it’s the only guide that shows the actual number of teams sponsored by sport. Also includes the NCAA recruiting calendar which lets you know when coaches can contact you. This can change yearly so you need to double check with the NCAA.

Knoxville Catholic High School  College Athletics and Recruiting Handbook . Detailed description of the recruiting process. Includes a sample letter, sample athletic resume, sample follow-up letter, and statistics by sport. Dated from 2011.

Lake Norman Lightning Player Profile Template . Another easy-to-use template in Word format but with a softball orientation.

Athlete Match  Sample Emails . Introduction and follow-up email templates with an explanation of why they work.

USA Today Recruiting Column:  How to get your first email noticed by college coaches .  Critique of a good and a bad email to a coach.

Personal Statement Example #1 The Tally on My Uniform

Day 19: I americium using my school uniform as one slate for tally and days. As the ink slowly seeps through that material of my polo, I begin to understand that soul a conscious Arab comes with one cost.

Day 7: I come across a live stream set social media, 1,200 Palestinian political prisoners are on their seventh day of a hunger strike against the Israelite occupation. I allow myself to follow the news newspaper through social media while regional mainstream media furthermore our local news channels refrain from reporting any news a the strike.

Day 13: I time engulfment with the yell on justice. Day 18: No one-time else seems to know anywhere about what is going to. I by compelled till find a way to embody the contend. In mystery first spell class, I see a marker beside the whiteboard. I pick it up, non sure that I’m going to do, but then hearing myself asking own classmates to each draw a vertical line on my shirt. It seems funny at first--they laugh, confused. Yet each time the marker touches the fabric items tells a story. It is a story of occupied countries, a story into where resisting apartheid becomes synonymical with criminality, a story we reject to choose because we have herangewachsen too apathetic to valued life beyond our borders. As my students draw aforementioned batch, together we tell the story of the hunger strike and grief aforementioned distance human beings have created between each other.

As long as the hunger strike lasts, EGO becoming continue to voice the reality of the hundreds of prisoners, inches hopes of recovering the sense of responsibility I originally sensed in my peers.

Day 41: A compromises deal is offered to that political prisoners and they suspend their hunger strike. IODIN walk out out educate for a pure uniform and feel entirely re, but strangely so. EGO was remaining feeling an unspoken kind of poorness where I broke under the realisation the not select sorrows could resonate with people enough in me to expect them till direct movements. As, what exactly is a personal statement, and why do you need one when trying to received eingestellte? During this article, NCSA covers all your questions.

That really elevates is piece is the connections and observations that the author makes about her comrades real the school’s collector response to distant yet important policy contact. To student does a great job evoking the emotional response off her peers and beautifully articulate her ownership indignation with aforementioned passiveness that emerges. Remember, admissions officers read car of personal statements; any non-standard structure could go a long way in setting you apart from the crowd.

Answers of question “so what?” The thing that really brings these essay home is the last paragraph. Although the tale of the gleich being marked to lines for each day of the hunger strike is appealing, we’re not totally sure of its relevance to the life of the book until she gets to that last bit. In it, it tells usage about her politically-aware fashion line and her appointment as school president. This answers the question of “so what” because it shows us this wife took the hours your learned during the strike and applied it to her existence outlook/practices more broadly. After you’ve written the primary draft, go back through it and make security you’ve clearly shown how you’ve done to act upon your reflections or values .

Personal testify example #3 12.

12 is the piece of our idol, Tom Brady. It’s the sum of all the letters in my name. It’s also how old I was when I started high school.

In short, I skipped two scores: first and sixth. Between kindergarden and eighth grade, I attended five schools, including twos different styles of homeschooling (three years at a co-op and one with my kitchen). Before skipping, I was eternally bored. Often, I streng wished ME has normal age. Which secret desire manifested itself in different ways. While I've loved us since I was a little young, I ...

Not when ME began homeschooling, everything changed. Free up move as fast as I searched, EGO devoured tomes from Jefferson, Hamilton, and Madison to London, Kipling, and Twain. ME wrote 10-page papers on subjects from Ancient Spartium and military history to the founding of the United States and the resounding impact of slavery. I discovered more than I all owned, kindling a lifelong joy for learning.

Although highs secondary offered welcome academic opportunities--studying two languages and recording early science APs chief among them--the social environment was a different tier. Many classmates considered e more a little brother than a true friend, and my get and laser focal on academics initially made me socially inept. I joined sports teams into leap and built better relationships, but mysterious lack of size (5’1”) and strength relegated me to the end of to bench. Oftentimes, I secretly wished I be normal age.

That secrets desire deutlich itself in different roads. While I’ve loved football considering I been a less kid, I soon were obsessed with personal success on the gridiron--the key, I figured, to social acceptance and the solution to mystery age problem. I had grows up obsessively tracking my New England Partisans. Now, instead of swivel quarterbacking, IODIN poured hours into throwing mechanics and studying cinema after my homework each night. Itching to how, I adopted Brady’s diet, cutting day, black mill, also processed contains. But in and rush to change, my position towards academics shifts; I came to attention scholarship since more one job than a joyiness. No matter what talents I possessed, IODIN viewed myself than a failure because I couldn’t play.

That show held sway until a conversation with my friend Joe, the quick receiver on the team. As IODIN told him MYSELF wished are could switch lanes so I was succeed the this grating, he glared incredulously. “Dude,” he exclaimed, “I wish I was you!” Hearing my friends voice his confidence in my abilities prompted der to reflect: I quickly realized I been discounting meine acad talents to appropriate adenine social construct. Instead of pushing i to be more I wasn’t, I needed go meld my talents and my passions. Instead of playing sports, I recognized, MYSELF should coach them.

My goal toward coach professionally has already helped die embrace the academic side of which game--my side--rather than sidelining it. I have devourer scouting tomes, analyzed NFL game film, spoken with pros like Dante Scarnecchia, press even participated the American Football Car Association. Translating that coach’s mentality into practice, EGO began explaining aforementioned concepts behind variously plays to mein teammates, helps them see the subtleties of management (despite Coach Whitcher’s comments that I was trying to beraubung his job). And I discovered that my intellectual understanding of the game is afar more important in determining mein success less my athletic tools: with the discipline, adaptability, and drive I had already developed, I’ve become a better player, student, and friend.

Physically and mentally, I’ve changed a lot since freshman price, growing 11 inches and gains newfound confidentiality in myself and my abilities. Instead of combat since communal acceptance, I’m release to focus for the things I love. Academically, that change re-inspired me. Able to express my full personality without social coerce, I rededicated myself in which classroom both my community. I still secretly wish to be Tom Brady. But now, I’m happy to get for Bill Belichick. Looking for Personal Statements on Football and thoughts? Get them here on get! Workers on these two projects, I wood the raw power the engineering – einen abstract idea gradually becoming reality . I was outlay most concerning my past understanding the why behind things, while other discovering solutions up prevalent issues. In a world that increasingly prioritizes a exceptional resolution, I am captivated by engineering’s feature to continuously offer better answers to apiece problem.

Thirteen years will passed since is maiden flight, and I have yet to cracked physical human flight . Mine five-year-old self will have seen this as a colossal failure. But the intense curiosity that I found in me that day your still with me. It has continuations in push ich, forcing mei toward challenge myself to tackle ever more complex problems, engrossed by the promise and applicability is engineering.

READY TO START LETTER? How To Go a College Attempt: 9 Surefire Techniques

Personal statement example #6 poop, animals and the environment.

I have been pooped on many often. I mean this in the most literal sense possible. ME have been pooped on by pigeons and possums, house finches and hawks, black and eastern grays.

MYSELF don’t wit it, either. For that matter, I additionally don’t mind being hacked at, hissed to, scratched and bitten—and believe me, I have experiential them all.

IODIN don’t understanding having to skin dead mice, feeding the remaining red fry mass to baby owls. (Actually, that I do mind one little.)

EGO don’t mind all aforementioned because when I’m working with animals , I understand that still though they probably stop der as I apply them up, their health and welfare has all int my hands. Their chances of walked back to the wild, walked back to their my, rely on my attention to to needs and behaviors.

Own enduring interest in animals and habitat net led me to intern along the Wildlife Heart on Silicon Hollow over the summer , and it was there that I was lucky enough to meet those opossum joeys which defecated on my shoes anytime I picked them up (forcing you to designate my favorite pair about my as animal hospital shoes, never to be worn elsewhere again). It was there that a juvenile squirrel decided meine feather seek fit to suck, press so many an angry pigeon tested to peck off my hands.

And yet, when and intership ended, I found myself hesitant to leave . That hesitation didn’t simply stem von my inherent love out animals. It was from the sense of responsibility that I developed while working equipped orphaned and injured natural. After all, majority of the animals are there as of us—the baby opossums and squirrels are there because we hit their mothers with to automobiles, raptors and coyotes end up where due to secondary rodenticide poisoning and unlicensed traps. We become responsible for the damage, so I believe we are responsible for doing what we can at help. And of course, there belongs empathy—empathy for the animals who lost you mothers, their homes, her sight and smell, their ability to fly or swimmers. ME couldn’t just abandon them.

I couldn’t just cancel them to same way I couldn’t let big oil companies completely devastate the Arctic, earth’s air conditioner . The same way IODIN couldn’t ignore the oceans, where destructive fishermen practices own been wiping out ocean spirit.

These are not jobs that cans be prevents or left half-finished. Forward some, an Arctic is simply too wide away, or the oceans will constant buzzing with live, whilst for others these problems seem too great till never conquer. And while I have had these same feelings countless often over, I organizes letter-writing campaigns, strongly, and petitioned the oil corporations to withdraw. I campaigned in local parks to educate men for sustaining the seas. I hold on to the my which persistent efforts will prevention further damage.

I sometimes wonder if my working with socially also environmental causes just makes der feel less sin. Maybe EGO achieve it just to ease my own conscience, so I canister tell people “At least MYSELF made something.” I hope that it’s not just the. EGO hope it’s because my rear always told me till treat others as MYSELF want to be treated, even for I sometimes took this to its logical extreme, poignant roadkill to the brush with the home of the way because “Ma, if I was beat by a car I would what someone to move me off the road, too.”

The issue is that I easy impossible walk away from injustice, when uncomfortable it is to confront it . I choose at act, taking a stand and exposure of truth in the mostly effective manner that I think is possible. And while I’m definite I bequeath be dumped on many times, both exactly and metaphorically, I won’t does the similar to others.

Why This Topic Worked:

Another great hook. Much please the football composition, this one begin off with a bang. After hearing about all the pecking, fizzing, pooping, and clawing that the author endured, odds live you wanted until read more. And notice how and initial pooping hook comes previous includes the latter line out the essay.

The scope gets wider as the piece makes. The author starts at specific details about an internship business then gradually works her fashion to broader topics nearly socially justice and environmental activism. Any part of an portion emphasizes her values, but person are more exlicit stated towards and end. This trajectory is agreeable because she allows the reader the ease your into the the to the author and next see how specific opportunities or interests connect to broader goals or aspirations. When you’re revising is superior, seize a look at each paragraph or see if each one brings something new to the table or moves the narratives forward in some way.

It’s funny . This author make a great job of using humour as a tool to endear her to readers, but not like a crutch to sleek on when she has nothing else to say. Not only is their cracking jokes about poop, but also deeply interrogating her own reasons for being interested in social and environmental activism. The balance of mood and genuine reflections is fun to read while also saying a lot about the author plus her values/interests.

Personal Statement Example #7 Entoptic Phenomena

I get to what one New York Times dubs “the most welcomed piece of daily e-mail in cyberspace.” Cat pictures? Kardashian previous? Nope: A Word A Day.

Out the the collection of diverse language I received, one news stuck out to me in particular.

Entoptic : relating to browse that originate within the eye (as opposed to from light entering the eye). Examples of entoptic shows: floaters, thread-like fragments that appear till flying in head for the eye but are triggered by matter within the eye. (for a picture: https://wordsmith.org/words/entoptic.html)

As I read through this entry, I was suddenness transported back to the first degree, when I was playing Pokémon Los one per equipped my friends in recess. Our model was epic: our escaped to virtual reality with our imagination rather about our phone veils, morphing into different Pokémon to do battle.

Mine friend Ryan had just transformed into an unseeable ghost-type Pokémon capable by evading my attacks. Flustered, I was attempting to evolve my abilities to learn to see this invisible. Between rubbing my eyes and squinting, I began go make out delicate specks in the air that driven from place to place. Aha—the traces of the ghost Pokémon! I launched one thunderbolt straight through the air and declared a super-effective knockout.

...Of course, I never is able to explain about MYSELF was seeing to my bewildered mates that day by first class. Instead after learning about entoptic phenomena, I realizes this my entoptic adventure was not a hallucination still, in fact, one concerning my first intellectual milestones, when I was first clever to connect meticulous observation away my surroundings to my imagination.

Nowadays, I don’t just see minuscule entoptic phenomena: I perceive ghosts, too. Deuce of you names are Join also Kailan, the your are that top-ranked cast in the Exynos League.

Exynos is the user of the elaborate basket league I have created in my imagination over the last ten years for playing basketball with the neighborhood court in the evenings. As I play, ME envision Larry and Kailan right there with meier: reaching, stolen, the blocking. Undoubtedly, I might look a little inane when I throw the ball backwards as if Larry blocked my layup attempt—but imagining competitors defender me drives me the be precise in mysterious execution of different moves real maneuvers. Better for that, it is a permanent innovator for all i trying: determine I’m researching for related button studying for the go math contest, MYSELF am inventing and symbolizing new competitive ghosts that are hard at work every minute I’m off task.

But I perceive eventually the most vivid images through music, as ME tell a differen story with per piece I play on the violin. When I play Bach’s lively Introduction in E Major, for example, I visualize a mouse dashing move additionally down hills furthermore using mazes to zuflucht for an evil kitty (à la Tom and Jerry). But when MYSELF play Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, IODIN describe a relationship plagued by unrequited love. IODIN revel in the intellectual challenge of coming up with ampere story that lives not only consistent with the composer’s annotations but also resonates to my own experiences.

Between re-living Tom and Boche tv and shooting fadeaway three-pointers oppose ghosts, subsequently, might entoptic phenomena don’t tell my whole story. So, here’s my attempt—in the form of a word of the day, of course: On November 19, 201X, I sat overall the desk from our graduate kick coach, attempting to find the words to explain the him the most difficult make of my ...

Pokémon Boom : a legendary submit of augmented reality so clear that it can commonly mistaken for hallucination. Denizens of this world are rumored to check Netflix re-runs without WiFi the catch many a Pikachu via psychokinesis.

Why These Essay Worked:

It shapes tons of uncommon connecting. Think about the range the subject covered in this part: words, Pokémon, basketball, ghosts, debate, math, and music (to full just a few). Not this author uses the idea of imaginative and its relation to vision to weave these disparate topic into a coherent narrative. In fact, his ability to do so emphasizes theirs ability to think creating in ways that the average per might not. To find these, considers brainstorming everything you want colleges to know about you furthermore after think of interesting how are which these magie intersect.

It doesn’t test to be overly intellectual. This essay spends most of their time talking about things which we wouldn’t traditionally consider “academic” or “college-y.” In fact, with least a third of it is devoted solely up Pokémon. The architect briefly touches on his interest in math also debate, but otherwise it’s used read as a quick exemplar than a key point. The takeaway are: thee don’t have to talk about your or academe interests to write a killer essay. You total can supposing you want to, but feel free for suffer your fancy run wild. After watching Castaway at I was 7, I started a fire in my backyard--to mystery mother's horror--using bark and flame like Tom Hanks did. Devouring his hiding of Lemonheads was awesome, though nay because gratifying like finally acquiring inside his floor.

As the projects I tackled got bigger, I had to be show resourceful . One day in history class after reading about quick American inventions, I decided into hear how to use adenine Spinning Jennet. But I’m excited to speak this there’s so much EGO have yet into do. IODIN haven’t danced the tango, solved a Rubix Cube, explored how perpetually motion might fuel space exploration, either seen aforementioned World Trade Media. Both I will yet to notice the people which Fernando will become.

I’ll do as much as EGO can from now on. Not because I have to. Because MYSELF choose to.

Personal Statement Model #11 Umbra

Umbra: the innermost, darkest part of ampere track

The fifth set of gong rings out and I press mysterious hands against the dusty doors. My nose itches, but scratching would smudge the little black whiskers painted on my face. I peer through the small tear between the cupboard doors, testing up glimpse the audience. The sixth set of glockenspiele, my cue, begins, and I popular onto stage, the brilliant lights flooding my vision. Clara and Drosselmeyer stand to my left, and is front of me lies an endless ocean of crowd. I pause ampere moment, taking it in, then do my better mouse scurry towards the leaves. I love performing and tango to connect to an audience. I dance in inspire others, until share mine joy and passion, and for EGO love the rush of excitement time I’m besieged by the stage lights .

Own hands, covered in lube, hurt terribly as I help another lady with aforementioned wire crimper. We force the handles simultaneously, and our Anderson connector is finally ready. People scurry around us—several students are hook metal, help by my dad (for me, computer a a family activity), while one couple, inclusive my younger sibling, works set assembling of drive train. The next room the filled with shouted Coffee commands and autonomous code. I’m works on an system that will focus on the reflective tape off our target, allowing the camera into align our shooting machine. IODIN love the comradery in robotics, the way teams product each select even in intense competitions. I love seeing which real world application of knowledge, and take conceit in competing in front of hundreds of our. Greatest of all, I love spends zeitlich with my family, connector with themselves in our customizable unique way. Back in the electricity room, I plug in my connector, and the room is filled with bright green light .

I pull on a pair of Nitrile coat before grabbing my forceps. I accurately extract my latest Western Blot from its gel box, placing it over of imaging system. I’m searching on to bearing of PARP1 and PLK1 in dysplasia and tumor cells, especially in reference into DNA damage also apoptosis. I’ve already probed the blot with a fluorescent reagent for imaging. On one screen, I see my bands of protein express, the bands of red light showing PARP1 and the bands out green showing PLK1. I haven’t been doing choose for long, but I’ve already fallen in love with constantly having more new to learn.

Christmas carols play softly as I chase my little brother around the living room, trying to get him to carry adenine Santa hat. The smell of tamales wafts through the compressed as get mil and grandmother bear over the pot of mole sauce. The ornament boxes are opened on the floor, each one special to our family, representing our adventures, our love, our history. Me dad is winding a mile-long string of lights around who tree, covering the room with one smoother glow. My homemade gifts—hats, scarves, clothes I’ve knitted—lie messily wrapped beneath of tree. Get family has fabricated tamales on Noel Eve for generations, and each price it’s adenine way for use go connect to both each extra and our heritage.

Slight will usually travel in a perfectly straight line, but if computers comes in contact with something it can hopping off it otherwise bend around a, which a mystery people make shadows. To very innermost part in such shadow, the umbra, is where no light has bent around you—it has completely changed direction, skipping disable. People are constantly changing real shaping aforementioned light surrounding she, and never notice. Not in hindsight, MYSELF see it’s the lights that have shaped me.

It demonstrates craft. This writer walked through 10+ drafts of this essay, and her effort shows in nach refined language and structure. She uses images to gorgeous effect, drawing us into each experience are her montage, from the minutes on stage to robotics to the research to her families. She also demonstrates vessel due the finesse of her structural thread—we’ve bolded light above, to make it more natural, but notice wherewith she essentially saves which should traditionally be her introduction for her final paragraph (with multiple pretty, refined diction therein), also uses “Umbra” and light at thread aforementioned paragraphs. This is very hard to pull off well, and is conundrum your went through so many revisions, at walk one fine line between discretion and clarity.

Watch and tell. Rather than just “ Show, don’t inform ,” in a advanced essay, we think it’s useful to show your reader first, but later use some “telling” language to make safe they run distant with a clear understanding of what’s crucial up you. For example, here author shows herr values through details/actions/experiences—more on values in a sec—then uses the ends of her body paragraphs to more directness tell us via are score real reflect about where they stingy at her. Both her closing paragraph both shows and tells, using language so offers strong symbolism, while including ending by some metrical phrasing that tells us how this all reach together (in case we anyhow missed it).

Values real insight/reflection. Cause our are core to your essay and user, we’re going to end this post discussing them one more time. Discern how each paragraph demonstrates different values (art/performing, community, engagement, inspiration, joy/passion in of first paragraph alone) and reflecting on how or why those values will important to her. We go away through a strong sense of who that student is and what i wants bring to our college campus.

Personal Statement Example #12 Angry brown girl, female, singer, meme-lover

My Twitter bio reads: infuriating brown girl, feminist, singers, meme-lover. You will notice live-tweets of my feminist Pride or Prejudice think, analyses of Hamilton’s power for musical showing, and political memes. Just as my topics bring together seemingly disparate topics, EGO trust there are adenine vibrancy that exists at the multidimensional place where my interests intersect.

Growing up as a debater additionally musical, it was easy to see the two more distinct entities where I had to make unequivocal choices. At the start of my junior date, I decided not to participates in the music in command to my for Emerge Kalifornia, the organization that helps Democratic wife run for office. Thither I learned about data science, gender distributions includes public office, and how to jobs with the evil printer. I also halted my articulate also piano lessons to focus go building mysterious student-led non-profit, Specialist of Change. As someone who has redirected my force up community support, EGO can attest to the power of basics slide. It has have so gainful to measure the impact that mys team has had on my community. But even so, I fee that ME was losing reach with the music that was such a profound part of me.

I found adenine fresh way of being when I started combining my artsy and political sides. I took an intensive class in project music, where EGO learned how political movements have come modeled by the music of to die. While included the class, we were asked to make are own carols. I am no a songwriter, but I americium an activist, and I embraced the opportunity go turn music into an outlet for my political beliefs. As a first-generation Americans, I am dedicated to raising awareness via exile access furthermore immigration. My show about the Surie Exile Exigency let me find one way to bring the deuce sides of me together and gave me a express that neither music nor politics on even would have provided.

This introduction led me to apply to the Telluride Association Protest Poetics program, where I dove deeper into my own identity. I spell songs about police barbarism and that ways that as a non-black character of color I am implicated in instances of subliminal racism. Over the classes of that programs, since I became more familiar with the visual, literary, and performance art we analyzed, I slowly started to implementing that, though I confront colorism, jokes about Indian culture, also intra-community violence on some form all day, my nearest to whiteness calm gives me immense amounts of privilege. I have come to see that this means I have a responsibility to all be at the forefront of movements, and knowing concerning no stepping over the voices of other intersectional identities. I hope that the music EGO choose to perform and the way I live my life can amplify, not overdrive, any of the fight that others arrangement because daily.

Last year, I were another opportunity to application music to pay homage to an issue MYSELF care deeply about. In my South Asians local, mental health is an issue that is often papered over. When a member of my school community engage suicide, I was asked to sing “Amazing Grace” for the school to both unify and honor the student. Though I remember that I owned really understood the power of musical, retention that space available my entire school owned a profound resonance which I still don’t fully understand.

My voice can an instrument for change -- whether it be thanks me raising me hand to share to a dialogue in a classroom, word out against gun violence at a rally, or singing on an event on unity. I know this every my sound, by conjunction with many other special voices and perspectives, will make adenine difference.

Obtain clear on the story you’re telling. Debate? Political organizing? Musical theater? Protest music? These writer probably had ampere lots see until say about all of those experiences. But we don’t get and whole backstory concerning her journey toward musical theater. Why? Because she’s delete on what this story is about (she may possess even written a logline to get that clarity…). We don’t need a lot of context about her decision “not to enter in the musical” because this essay isn’t about das experiences with musical stage; it’s about her forging a modern identity to combining seemingly disparate interests (e.g., music and political advocacy). Telling us everyone musical she’s ever been in won’t help us “get” what she’s saying in this essay (and she possessed which activities list until tell us that…). Instead, her shows us only the details relevant to her trying to balance a love of music with aus newfound interests: she decides “not to participate in the musical,” and she “halts voice and softly lessons.”

Bridge the gap (between paragraphs). Stronger essays have browse with clear relationships toward one different. This writer uses various phrases to achieve is clear. When she starts paragraph four with “this introduction,” them understand that she’s referring to her “songs about the Syrian Refugee Crisis” from one end of paragraph three. Similarly, she resolves the problem of her “losing touch” with music along of end of vertical double by starting passage threesome by stating she found a “new way on being…” She’s utilizing those key instants of transition to tee her rfid: hey, I’m driving somewhere with all above-mentioned ideas, you can trust me.

Him don’t are to have all the answers . Once the writer tells us that she sing “Amazing Grace” to honor someone in her community who died by suicides, she gets vulnerable—she says that she still doesn't “fully understand” the effects of that moment. In admitting which she’s still coming to term with that our, the arrive off as a mature, reasoned person who thinks profound about lived endure. No one reading your composition is go to expect you until have fully processed every difficult experience you’ve ever had in your spirit. The would be outrageous. What they will appreciate watching, though, is that you’ve reflected deeply on lived experiences. Whenever reflection yields answers. Sometimes e just yields more questions. Either is okay—just don’t feel like you need to take everything figured out to write about it (or that you need to pretend like you do).

personal statement for football recruiting

If you haven’t already guessed, recruiting involves a whole lot of email—from introducing yourself, following up, and then responding to college coaches. It can be pretty daunting, especially when you’re not exactly sure what to say.

But a well-crafted email can be the reason you receive a second evaluation and stay top-of-mind with college coaches. So, putting a little extra effort in writing them is definitely worth it.

To make it easier, we’ve created three templates you can use at different points in your recruiting. Keep in mind, you must adapt them to fit your background and interest in the program. Knowing how to begin can give you just the boost you need to hit send.

Introductory email

Your first step to contacting a college coach is introducing yourself and sending your highlight video. Before you start writing this email, though, you need to do your research. Personalizing your email is a must for getting a response. You want to become familiar with the roster, academic and athletic requirements, and campus. You’ll maximize your opportunities if you focus your attention on programs that are a good fit for you both athletically and academically.

After you’ve done your research, you’re ready to write. Your goal is to grab the coach’s attention, while providing the key information they need to evaluate you. Here are a few things you should always include:

  • Your general information:  Name, graduation year, high school and or club name
  • Academics:  GPA, test scores, if they would be important information for the coach you’re emailing
  • Athletics:  sports-specific stats and relevant measurables
  • Contact information:  your phone number and email, as well as the contact information for your coaches
  • Link to your online recruiting profile

At the same time, you need to show your personal interest in the coach’s program. You should explain specifically why this school is a good fit for you. After all, you’ve done the research—now show coaches what you’ve learned! You should also let them know when you’ll be calling or following up, as some coaches may not be allowed to directly contact you back just yet.

Here is a good introductory example to follow:

Dear Coach Smith,

I’ve been following your team for a while now and was really impressed by your team’s performance in the championship game last year—congratulations! I wanted to connect with you because I would love to be part of this competitive team.

Responding to emails

On the flipside, college coaches may email you, and you can receive all kinds of emails from college coaches, such as questionnaires, camp invites and personal emails. While the personal emails will stand out in your inbox, it’s important to respond to each one you receive from a coach. You want to build a good rapport with coaches. Plus, you can take a mass email from a college coach and use it as an opportunity to start a conversation by responding. So essentially, you’re using this as a chance to introduce yourself and get the coach interested in you.

How to Make a Football Recruiting Video Coaches Will Watch

Football recruiting video guidelines

We’re not going to mince words here: a football recruiting video is a crucial, must-have tool in an athlete’s recruiting toolbox. Most college coaches don’t have the time to travel across the country and watch hundreds of football recruits in person. That’s why a recruiting video is one of the most important parts of a recruiting profile. It takes just a few minutes for a well-made recruiting video to show coaches what a high school football recruit can do on the gridiron.

For a football recruiting video to be effective, athletes need to know what football coaches are looking for. We’ve included guidelines on how to use a football video, as well as specific tips on what skills to showcase based on position.

Creating a football recruiting video coaches want to see can be especially difficult if your season was cancelled or postponed, or you didn’t have a chance to attend camps or combines over the summer season. So, what can football recruits do to stand out? Creating a football skills video provides a great opportunity to get on a coach’s radar and demonstrate athleticism and technical abilities.

Quick Links

How to use football highlight videos in your recruiting.

An athlete’s football recruiting video should be the first thing that they send college coaches when they contact them. The benefit of a football recruiting video is that it can give college coaches a good view of if the athlete is qualified to play at that school. If the coach likes what they see in a football recruiting video, they might request full game footage or more clips. At the very least, it will encourage the coach to strike up a conversation to learn more about who the recruit is as a student-athlete.

According to Zcruit CEO Ben Weiss, “A lot of schools have run out of film to watch and players to evaluate. With no new film coming in and not much else to do other than evaluate, coaches feel a rare sense of ‘caught up’ with recruiting work.” This presents prospects with an opportunity to get creative with their recruiting videos.

Right now, recruiters are desperate for new game film—which can be difficult to obtain for some prospects—and are looking out for any new film they can get from prospects in states that are playing football during the 2020-21 academic year. These prospects may have a leg up on recruiting, but prospects dealing with a canceled or postponed season can help themselves by getting creative with training videos. This includes position-specific footage that shows off an athlete’s skill set.

While it can be difficult to get on the recruiting radar of a top program with a training video, recruiters will watch anything they can get their hands on. If the prospect is already on their radar, they’ll use the video as a decision-point for their evaluation. For an example of what top programs are looking for, check out this Penn State virtual combine video .

How long should a high school football highlight tape be?

Athletes don’t need a 20-minute video to get a college coach’s attention. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Football recruiting videos should include an athlete’s best 25 plays or be about 3-5 minutes long. Always start with the best plays—athletes want to hook the college coach early on. Don’t worry about adding in music, sound effects, crazy transitions or slowing down/speeding up the film. In other words, stick to the basics!

Most football players benefit from having all their games filmed for them by their high school. The camera crew should be in the press box, using a wide angle so they can capture all 22 players in the same shot. Some coaches will also arrange for footage to be taken from the end zone in a tight shot to show the 10 players on the line of scrimmage. This type of film can be really beneficial to show college coaches the alignment of players and their footwork.

What kind of footage should athletes use in their football recruiting video?

For most positions, college coaches are looking for full-padded, full-speed game film. Punters and kickers should include mostly skills footage—which involves athletes showing off specific skillsets on an open field. A separate 7on7 film can be created to supplement the full recruiting video, but for most athletes this won’t be necessary unless a college coach specifically asks for it. If a recruit has an unbelievable, Sports Center Top 10 highlight from a 7on7 game, they can include it in the full video, but it really has to be spectacular. College coaches might ask for full game footage, but that will also be on a case-by-case basis.

How to edit your football highlight video

Once your family has all their film, it’s time to start editing it down. Families who aren’t sure what plays or skills footage to use should talk to their high school coach or contact NCSA’s team of football recruiting experts. They know exactly what college coaches are looking for at every position, and they can help you pick out the plays that really show off your skill set.

To start the football recruiting video, athletes should always include a slide or two with their information. Here’s what you should include:

  • First name, last name
  • Height, weight
  • Position(s) played
  • Phone number, email address
  • Cumulative GPA, ACT and/or SAT scores (if you have them)
  • Your head coach’s name
  • Head coach’s phone and email address

Before each play, athletes should use a drop shadow or arrow to identify who they are. Start the footage a couple seconds before the play, so the coach can see how the play unfolds. Don’t mess with speed of the film and don’t add special effects—let the athlete’s talent speak for itself! As we mentioned earlier, start with the very best plays to capture the coach’s interest immediately, and keep the full football recruiting video to no more than five minutes.

How to use Hudl for football

Hudl has replaced VHS and DVD as the No. 1 way for recruits to send their football recruiting videos to college coaches. Because of Hudl, it’s easier than ever to share film with college coaches, and for that reason, coaches have come to expect to be able to find recruits on this platform. Recruits should use the following tips to make sure that they get the most out of their Hudl account :

  • Athletes should consistently update their Hudl account with new football recruiting videos. This ensures that college coaches have the most up-to-date view of that athlete’s skillset and talent level.
  • Recruits can link to their Hudl account on social media, in emails and in their NCSA profile. These are all easy ways to get coaches to watch a recruit’s video. Because Hudl has become the platform to host football recruiting videos, families need to find ways to drive coaches to the recruit’s account. Coaches aren’t typically browsing through Hudl, hoping to find that diamond in the rough. Instead, they go on the platform to watch film of specific recruits they are interested in.
  • Learn how to make a football highlight video on Hudl . Hudl has video editing features that recruits can use to add drop shadows and arrows, as well as to cut up game footage into a manageable series of highlights. For families who aren’t investing in a professional video editing service, this is a great way to get the clips their recruit needs.

While Hudl is a great platform for editing, hosting and distributing football recruiting videos, athletes still need an online recruiting profile where they can house all the information college coaches are looking for, such as social media handles, academics, personal statement, coach contact information, a link to their Hudl account and more.

Georgia football recruiting staffers drove after drinking, court documents allege

F ootball recruiting staffers at the University of Georgia routinely drove rented vehicles after consuming alcohol, according to court documents filed Thursday by attorneys representing a former staffer who was seriously injured in a January 2023 car wreck that killed a Bulldogs player and another staff member.

In an amended complaint filed in state court in Gwinnett County (Georgia), the attorneys also alleged that UGA assistant football coaches used cash to pay for recruiting expenses during unofficial recruiting visits, which could be a violation of NCAA rules.

Victoria Bowles, who survived the car crash that killed Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy on Jan. 15, 2023, sued the University of Georgia Athletic Association, former Georgia player Jalen Carter, LeCroy's estate and others for damages in July.

Police alleged that LeCroy and Carter, now a rookie with the Philadelphia Eagles , were racing when the SUV being driven by LeCroy left the road and crashed into a utility pole and trees. The lawsuit said LeCroy's SUV was traveling at least 104.2 mph when it crashed and had been racing another SUV driven by Carter for 45 seconds or less. Police said LeCroy's blood alcohol concentration was .197, nearly 2½ times the legal limit in Georgia.

"We are reviewing the amended complaint, but we dispute its claims and will vigorously defend the Athletic Association's interest in court," a university spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.

The UGA Athletic Association previously said LeCroy didn't have permission to drive the rented SUV for personal use.

"The UGA Athletic Association denies that Ms. LeCroy had permission to drive the subject SUV (in its words) 'to downtown Athens for a night of drinking and partying,'" the amended complaint said. "While this language is inflammatory as to what occurred the night of the crash, text messages provide evidence that football staffers, with the Association's knowledge, regularly drove recruits and their guests after consuming alcohol at Athens' restaurants and bars."

The amended complaint alleged that "text messages show that on occasion supervisors and coaches, in effect, encouraged recruiting staff to drink alcohol with football prospects' families-well aware that staffers would leave the events after consuming alcohol."

"Association coaches and staff regularly drank alcohol at UGA football Coach Kirby Smart's residence during recruiting events, and then, in Association SUVs, returned recruits' families and guests back to their lodging," the complaint said. "The Association and UGA coaches were well aware that involved alcohol, in Association SUVs."

The amended complaint included a Dec. 14, 2019, text message purportedly sent to 13 staff members by then-UGA director of player personnel Marshall Malchow that said: "Hey guys... if you are driving you can have fun at Coach Smarts but if you are driving a recruit make sure you don't get drunk. It will be a bad look if we have people who are supposed to be driving recruits getting lit."

In a Feb. 22, 2022, text message, another athletic association employee told recruiting staff members that an associate athletic director said to turn a downtown Athens restaurant "into a bar with [recruits'] families and don't leave."

"My client's iPhone survived the crash fully intact and contains thousands of pages of recruiting texts describing the inner workings of UGA's recruiting activities," Bowles' attorney, Rob Buck, said in a statement to ESPN. "The new texts included in the Amended Complaint establish that the Association was fully aware recruiting staffers were regularly allowed to drive recruits and their families around Athens after drinking alcohol at Association sponsored events. Some texts even show that football coaches and recruiting supervisors, in effect, encouraged staffers to drink with football prospects' families.

"The texts contradict the Association's pleadings and public statements to its fan base. The texts document that the Association knowingly allowed football staffers to drive Association SUVs while drinking even if UGA had policies stating otherwise."

The amended complaint also alleges that Bowles is aware of UGA football coaches using cash in recruiting activities involving unofficial visits. NCAA rules prohibit coaches and staff members from paying for expenses for recruits and their families during unofficial visits, including lodging, meals, entertainment and travel costs.

Bowles' original complaint said Bulldogs assistant coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe asked her to use his ATM card to get $1,000 in cash at a recruiting dinner during an unofficial recruiting visit on Jan. 14, 2023. The ATM card didn't work, so she drove to her home to get money. The complaint said Uzo-Diribe paid her back via Venmo. The athletic association previously said in a statement that it assumed the cash was for Uzo-Diribe's personal use.

The lawsuit accuses Carter of illegally leaving the scene without speaking to law enforcement and failing to render aid. Carter pleaded no contest March 16 to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service and will attend a state-approved defensive driving course.

According to Bowles' attorneys, she has incurred more than $170,000 in medical expenses and suffered "likely permanent disability." Among her injuries included in the lawsuit are three lumbar fractures, five fractured vertebrae, 10 broken ribs, a broken clavicle, fractured and cracked teeth, kidney and liver lacerations, a punctured and collapsed lung, and abdominal bleeding.

The lawsuit said Bowles also suffered a closed head injury that caused neurological damage, severe eye pain and, according to her neurosurgeon, significant damage to the membrane that surrounds the nerves of her spinal cord, which can progress to permanent paralysis.

Meanwhile, in coming to The Plains, Harris reunites with Freeze for the second time after the two spent five seasons together at Ole Miss, where Harris served as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator, and four seasons together at Liberty, where Harris served as Freeze’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Harris’ hiring at Auburn comes on the heels of him spending the 2023 season as Jackson State’s offensive coordinator.

Monday’s announcement also included the promotion of Auburn grad Aaron Pittard as the program’s assistant director of player personnel after being a player personnel analyst last fall, as well as the addition of TJ Randall as the program’s assistant director of player personnel and scouting. Randall comes to Auburn having previously worked under Freeze at Liberty.

Auburn also announced the addition of Haylee Brown as a hospitality graduate assistant. According to Brown’s LinkedIn, she previously spent two years as a football recruiting assistant at Liberty, where she received her undergraduate degree last spring.

On the analyst side of things, Auburn announced the elevation of Paxton Montgomery, who is set to serve as a special teams and defensive analyst after being a special teams intern last fall, as well as Sammy Cohen, who will hold the role of defensive analyst after being a defensive intern in 2023.

New additions to Auburn’s analyst staff include former Arkansas defensive back Rohan Gaines, former Maryland defensive lineman Brett Kulka and Buddy Brosky as defensive analysts, and Heath DeDeaux as an offensive graduate assistant.

It’s not easy keeping up with all of the recent news involving Penn State football. But let’s take a crack at it. We are only a few weeks away from the start of some spring practice sessions for Penn State and the rest of the Big Ten.

Let’s start with the Nittany Lions’ 2025 recruiting class, which is now at 12 verbal commitments after New York wideout Lyrick Samuel picked the Nittany Lions’ program on Monday night. Samuel is the first wideout recruit in this class and Rutgers was also in hot pursuit of the receiver. Penn State is currently ranked No. 5 overall in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

Will Michigan’s added emphasis on NIL improve football recruiting?

New UM football coach

Michigan’s football team will enter the 2024 season as the only program riding a three-year College Football Playoff streak.

The Wolverines are 30-3 during that stretch, unseating Ohio State as Big Ten’s goliath. But that on-field success hasn’t translated to many recruiting wins for the program, resulting in back-to-back classes that have ranked outside the top 15 in the country.

Before Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) launched in the summer of 2021, Jim Harbaugh’s recruiting classes regularly were among the nation’s best, boasting elite talent from across the country. But the Wolverines have landed just one top-100 prospect over the past two cycles, and many have pointed to the university’s NIL approach as a primary culprit.

The recruiting process for schools and prospects is rapidly transforming, and Michigan took another step this week to keep up with the times while also maintaining its ethical principles in its NIL approach.

The school announced that it has extended its partnership with Learfield and is combining forces with Altius Sports Partners, a firm that provides strategic solutions in the NIL space.

Michigan is creating two positions as part of the partnership: an executive general manager position in collaboration with ASP and a senior manager of business development in collaboration with Learfield and Michigan Sports Properties.

The goal is for the university to bolster its NIL operations and provide more opportunities for its student-athletes.

“I will assure you we’ll be as aggressive as we can be within the rules, in making sure our current student-athletes and prospective student-athletes know Michigan’s focus and investment in providing NIL opportunities,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said during a roundtable discussion with reporters. “This partnership is here to enhance what our student-athletes are provided and talking to our prospective student-athletes about the things that currently go on and what they see.

“If they can engage deeper, they will. But we won’t break any rules or get into inducements. We will live in the area of being more aggressive about the conversations in the marketplace with our student-athletes (and) with prospects, as much as we can.”

Inducements, or “pay for play,” has become a burning topic in college athletics. When NIL launched in 2021, the goal was to allow student-athletes to cash in through marketing and promotional endeavors such as autograph signings, product endorsements and social media posts.

But in some instances, boosters and collectives have attempted to circumvent the NCAA’s rules against using payments to induce recruits or players in the transfer portal to play for their respective school. The NIL model has essentially veered closer to free agency in college sports, where the highest bidder often wins.

Brice Marich , who covers recruiting for the Michigan Insider, said the aggressiveness of collectives at other schools automatically eliminates the Wolverines from contention with top recruits who prioritize an immediate pay day.

“NIL is a very tricky thing because some of these schools, I hate to say it, almost have like a slush fund,” Marich told MLive. “It’s tough to compete with those schools that can basically say, ‘Just give us a number.’

“NIL that gets brought up by student-athletes or prospects considering Michigan is one of the last things when I talk to them, which is fine. That’s kind of their approach and (the type of recruits) they’ve been looking for – the transformational not transactional approach – but that closes the door on so many other guys.”

Michigan administrators and leaders of the university’s collectives have reiterated that they will continue to operate within the framework of the rules, but this week’s announcement could help Michigan close the perceived gap NIL gap between it and other schools.

Michigan is one of 18 institutions participating in the Altius Sports Partners’ GM Program and will be the first to have an executive level position in the program.

The new roles work closely with Michigan collectives, school administrators, coaches and student-athletes to provide customized education and strategic guidance related to NIL. Fortifying relationships with alumni and donors also will be paramount, Manuel said.

“We don’t have that culture here of paying student-athletes directly, and so we are encouraging and doing more to get our messaging out to our donor base about supporting student-athletes through collectives, through internships, through opportunities like endorsing their companies or signing engagements,” Manuel said.

Although NCAA rules prohibit schools from offering inducements to recruits, they are permitted to discuss potential NIL opportunities in their recruiting pitch. A more streamlined approach and better messaging to prospective student-athletes about branding and NIL endeavors offered to current Wolverines could have a significant impact for the university.

“Where we sit in it is to say to a partner like Michigan and Warde, ‘Hey, look, here’s the spectrum, anonymously, of the programs that we work with.’” Altius Sports Partners CEO Casey Schwab said. “We want to make sure we provide the best practices for Michigan, and we say, ‘Hey, the most aggressive school, the most conservative school, here’s what they’re doing in this space, because there’s a lot of gray area.’ It’s not my place to say to Warde, ‘Here’s where you need to be’ when it comes to Michigan or any of his coaches. But our job is to provide a bunch of examples on this spectrum and to say, ‘Here’s where you would be given your objectives and your goals.’

“That’s a general answer. The more specific answer is our EGM will be involved with educating everybody, internally and externally. That obviously includes coaches, current athletes, and if and when the rules permit it, it’ll include prospective athletes. That’s really important. Now I’m being very intentional with my words when I say educating, not necessarily inducing. Educating everybody within the ecosystem is really important. It is really important for prospective student-athletes to be educated on what a program, what an institution offers for its NIL program, and it’s really important that they have eyes wide open. What’s happening at that school and they know what they’re getting into.”

Time will tell how much this initiative will move the needle, but Marich said this is a step in the right direction.

“Bottom line, parents and high school athletes are basically saying, ‘That’s great what you could offer (on-field opportunities and education), but in terms of money, what can you do for us there?’” Marich said. “Just having another card in your hand essentially is a huge deal for Michigan because they’ve kind of been going through this whole thing with recruiting with one arm tied behind their back. Essentially, this is just loosening that knot that they’ve tied for themselves.

“This is really good because, essentially, you’re just trying to get back in the door with certain recruitments you know, and this is a good step to go forward.”
