Who was Walt Disney?

Walt Disney  (1901-1966) is one of those American business and entertainment icons whom many people admire because of what he achieved during his lifetime. He was an innovator, a media mogul, a film producer, and a founder of the Walt Disney Company, among other accomplishments.

Walter Elias Disney, known as Walt Disney, was born in Chicago on December 5th, 1901, to German, English, and Irish parents. He developed an interest in drawing during childhood and later became a cartoonist for his high school newspaper.

Walt and his brother moved to Hollywood in 1923 and founded an animation studio. With the creation of animated characters like Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the business soon became a success. They produced a number of films and popular cartoon series over the next couple of decades. These include  Bambi ,  Pinocchio ,  Snow White, and the Seven Dwarfs . Over the course of his lifetime, Walt received 59 Nominations for the Academy Awards (a record) and won 22.

Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort

Besides animation and film production, Walt Disney began working on an idea for an amusement park in Anaheim, CA. The park – called Disneyland – would open in 1955. After the early success of Disneyland, Walt began acquiring land in Florida for a new theme park to service the East Coast market. Unfortunately, Walt died in 1966 and didn’t live to see the new Florida theme park open. Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort was named after Walt and opened to the public in October 1971.

Animal Kingdom Rides and Attractions

Walt may be gone, but his influence is still felt strongly. The  Walt Disney World Company  continues to produce films and maintains theme parks across the globe, and the brand gets stronger every year.

Throughout his professional life, Walt Disney was able to inspire and bring joy to both children and adults, and we are so fortunate that his life was – and continues to be – felt by all!

Now let’s take a look at the best Walt Disney quotes.

100+ Walt Disney Quotes

“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.”

“That’s the real trouble with the world. Too many people grow up.”

“Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.”

“I don’t like formal gardens. I like wild nature. It’s just the wilderness instinct in me, I guess.”

He still speaks for me and I still speak for him.”

Without personality, the character may do funny or interesting things, but unless people are able to identify themselves with the character, its actions will seem unreal. And without personality, a story cannot ring true to the audience.”

“I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence.”

“I have long felt that the way to keep children out of trouble is to keep them interested in things.”

“Crowded classrooms and half-day sessions are a tragic waste of our greatest national resource – the minds of our children.”

Frozen: 10 most inspirational quotes.

Disney's Frozen is an excellent offering in a tradition of great movies. Frozen is all about embracing one's self. Here are its most inspiring lines.

Frozen  is one of Disney's greatest smash hits of modern times. The movie inspired many and became an instant classic with its great cast of characters, beautiful animations, wonderful songs, and most importantly, it's great messages.

RELATED:  Frozen: 5 Times Anna Was The Best Sister (& 5 Times She Was The Worst)

Frozen   really speaks to the heart of many people. It is all about being true to who you are on the inside and not allowing other people to crush your power and joy. With such strong takeaways, it's no surprise that  Frozen   is filled with inspirational quotes that come from Anna, Elsa, and more. Here are some of the best of the best lines from the film, that will fill viewers with determination, love, and certainty they will succeed.

The sky’s awake, so I’m awake, so we have to play.

This  Frozen  quote reminds the viewers that it's important to have fun. The beauty of Disney movies is that they unlock the magic of childhood and imagination and this quote does exactly that. Although it comes from a young girl, it's a good reminder to embrace the moment.

Anna is awake and she wants to have fun, everyone could stand to embody that spirt.

Don't know if I'm elated or I'm gassy. But, I'm somewhere in that zone.

Most inspirational quotes don't sound exactly like this one, but Anna strikes again. It's inspirational to know that even a Disney princess embraces that place between elation and queasiness when excitement strikes.

When strong emotion strikes, it's important to embrace it in its totality. It's inspiring that  Frozen  reminds its viewers to feel all of their feelings and really live in the moment.

Only the act of true love will thaw a frozen heart.

This quote is an inspiration because of the symbolic weight it holds. Of course, no one in real life is getting their hearts literally frozen, but people's hearts freeze in different ways all the time.

RELATED:  Frozen: 10 Best Anna Quotes

When that happens, it's crucial to remember that it's acts of love and the embracing of the people who matter that will help thaw the ice and bring warmth back into life.

Love... is... putting someone else's needs before yours.

This is an incredibly poignant quote, simple but powerful. It's incredible that a children's movie can so succinctly sum up what love means. This quote reminds viewers that engaging in love means to help those who are important. It means prioritizing not only the self but the needs of those who make life colorful and great.

Olaf might be a snowman, but he sure is smart.

I never knew winter could be so beautiful.

Winter can be harsh, full of sharp icy and frozen storms, but  Frozen  reminds us that it can also be beautiful. Though things seem scary, even dark, maybe evil, sometimes they just need to be looked at from another perspective.

In the right hands or the right hearts, and with the slightest bit of perspective, there can be beauty found in everything.

They say, 'Have courage,' and I'm trying to.

Giving advice is easy, but follow-through can be hard. Sometimes, when others give advice, they don't value the strength it takes to keep going. Anna keeps going. Even when the odds are hard, she gives her best, and that's all that she can do.

This quote reminds the audience not to ever give up. Even if what they're doing doesn't seem like enough, as long as they're moving forward, it is.

Some people are worth melting for.

For a few balls of snow and a childlike persona, Olaf is surprisingly smart. Although he thankfully doesn't actually melt, this moment is among one of the most emotional from  Frozen.  It reminds the audience that there are some choices worth making for those they love.

Sacrifice can be hard, but for loved ones, sometimes the tough choices are easy.

I don’t care what they’re going to say. Let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway.

This is a super inspirational line, it speaks to a lot of important parts of being a powerful, confident person. For so long, Elsa was confined, forced to live her life according to the standards of her society, and forced to hide her true powers and gifts.

RELATED:  Frozen the Musical: 10 Changes From Screen To Stage

In these iconic lines, Elsa reminds the audience that it doesn't matter what others say, it's what's inside that counts.

Of course, this is one of the most iconic lines that has ever been uttered in a Disney movie. "Let it go," is more than just a few words, it's an anthem, a pledge to not hold onto the things that keep us down.

Let it go might be the most inspirational words from any Disney movie and they certainly ring true no matter the situation.

I like the open gates. / We are never closing them again.

Some of the final lines spoke in  Frozen , this exchange offers a full-circle ending to the movie. What began with doors that were shut and locked, ends with everything flung wide open.

No more hiding of true selves, no more restrictions. It is so important for everyone to open the gates inside of themselves.

As her sister, Princess Anna, explained in their brief reunion mid-film, "Arendelle's in deep, deep, deep, deep... snow." Frozen won two Oscars in 2014 for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Song.

Cold and Winter Air

Cold and Winter Air

Ice harvesters : [singing as they cut blocks of ice from a lake]

Born of cold and winter air And mountain rain combining, This icy force, both foul and fair, Has a frozen heart worth mining.

Young Anna : Elsa! Psst!  Elsa!  Wake up, wake up, wake up!

Young Elsa : Anna, go back to sleep!

Young Anna : I just can't! The sky's awake, so I'm awake, so we have to play!

Young Elsa : Go play by yourself!

Young Anna : Do you wanna build a snowman?

Want To Build A Snowman?

Want To Build A Snowman?

Young Anna : Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on, let's go and play! I never see you anymore! Come out the door! It's like you've gone away! We used to be best buddies, and now we're not. I wish you would tell me why! Do you wanna build a snowman? It doesn't have to be a snowman!

Young Elsa : Go away, Anna.

Young Anna : Okay, bye.

Don't Touch Me!

Teenage Elsa : [to her parents] I'm scared! It's getting stronger!

King Agdar : Getting upset only makes it worse. Calm down. [He reaches out to touch her, but Elsa backs away]

Teenage Elsa : No! Don't touch me! Please. I don't want to hurt you...

It's Coronation

It's Coronation

[As the camera tracks through Arendelle on the day of Elsa's coronation, we catch sight of a mother forcing her boy to dress up] Son: Why do I have to wear this?

Mother: Because the queen has come of age! It's coronation day!

Son: That's not my fault!

I Bet They Are

[Dignitaries are filing across the bridge, headed for the castle gates] Irish Dignitary: Oh, me sore eyes can't wait to see the queen and the princess! I bet they're absolutely lovely.

Spanish Dignitary: I bet they are beautiful ! [Cuts to Anna fast asleep, drooling, and nibbling on a lock of hair. A servant knocks on the door]

Kai : Princess Anna?

Anna : [snorts] Huh...? [Anna sits up, her hair a complete mess]

Anna : Yeah...?

Kai : Sorry to wake you, ma'am, but-

Anna : No, no, no, no! You didn't! [yawns] I've been up for hours! [She starts snoring and she dozes off. A few seconds later, Anna startles herself awake] Who is it?

Kai : It's still me, ma'am. The gates will open soon. [Anna rubs her eyes] Time to get ready.

Anna : Of course! Ahem... Ready for what...?

Kai : Your sister's coronation, ma'am?

Anna : My sister's...corneration... [sees her coronation dress; her eyes bolt open] It's coronation day! [She jumps out of bed]

Nothing's In My Way

Hans: I'm so sorry! Are you hurt? [Anna takes notice of the horse's handsome rider]

Anna: Hey. Uh...no. No. I'm...I'm okay.

Hans: Are you sure?

Anna: Yeah, I...I just wasn't looking where I was going. But I'm great. Actually. [Hans jumps off his horse and steps onto the boat]

Hans: Oh, thank goodness. [Hans holds out his hand and helps Anna to her feet] Oh. Uh...Prince Hans of the Southern Isles.

Anna: [curtsies] Princess Anna of Arendelle.

Hans: Princess? My lady! [Hans suddenly drops to his knees to bow, while his horse inadvertently lifts its foot off the boat, causing it to tip over. Hans grabs Anna before she can fall in the water]

Anna: Wooh!

Hans: Um... [The two look at each other awkwardly]

Anna: Hi... again. [Hans's horse slams its hoof back onto the boat to tip it back upright. Anna falls on top of Hans]

Hans: Oh, boy! Uh...

Anna: This is awkward. Not you're awkward, but just because we're...I'm awkward-- you're gorgeous. Wait, what?

Hans: I'd like to formally apologize for hitting the Princess of Arendelle with my horse...and for every moment after.

Anna: No. No, no. It's fine. I'm not that princess. I mean, if you'd hit my sister Elsa, it would be like... yeesh! 'Cause, you know... [she turns and pats Hans's horse] Hello. [to Hans] But, lucky you, it's...it's just me.

Hans: [chuckles] Just you? [Anna smiles at Hans. Church bells are heard in the distance]

Anna: The bells. The coronation! I... I...I better go! I have to go. I better go! Uh... bye! [Anna rushes off. Hans's horse inadvertently lifts its hoof to wave as well]

Hans: Oh no. Ahǃ [Hans falls into the water]

But My Sister Does

[As a dance at the party ends, Elsa steps forward to be introduced] Kai : Queen Elsa of Arendelle. [Pointing toward Elsa] Princess Anna of Arendelle. [Anna comes running in from stage right. Kai points toward Anna, then has her move toward Elsa]

Anna : [confused] Here? Are you sure? Because I don't think I'm supposed to... Oh! Okay. [The crowd applauds. The next dance begins]

Anna : [surprised] "Hi-" "Hi" me? Oh, um... hi.

Elsa : You look beautiful.

Anna : Thank you! You look beatifuller! I mean not fuller. You don't look fuller but more-more beautiful.

Elsa : [laughs] Thank you. [looks out over the crowd] So, this is what a party looks like.

Anna : It's warmer than I thought.

Elsa : What is that amazing smell?

Elsa and Anna : [smelling] Chocolate! [Both sisters giggle]

Kai: Your majesty? [waves the Duke of Weselton forward] The Duke of Weaseltown.

Duke of Weselton: "Weselton"! Duke of Weselton, Your Majesty. As your closest partner in trade, it seems only fitting that I offer you your first dance as queen. [He does a fiddle with his feet. When he finishes and bows, his toupee comes off. Anna and Elsa laugh discreetly]

Elsa: Ahem. Uh, thank you. Only, I don't dance.

Duke of Weselton: Ah.

Elsa: [grins mischievously] But my sister does.

Anna: Oh. Wait, what?

Duke of Weselton: Ohǃ Lucky you!

Anna: Oh, I don't think--! [The Duke takes Anna by the arm and leads her away to dance]

Duke of Weselton: If you swoon, let me know! I'll catch you!

Elsa: [snickers] Sorry!

Man In Heels

Man In Heels

[on the dance floor, Anna stands as the Duke of Weselton dances around her showing off]

Duke of Weselton: Like an agile peacock...! [he steps on her feet as he dances around her. His toupee flops up and down the whole time]

Anna: Ow! Ow.

Duke of Weselton: Speaking of, it's so great to have the gates open. Why did they shut them in the first place? Do you know the reason? Hmm?

Duke of Weselton: Oh. Alright. Hang onǃ [he suddenly grabs Anna and dips her back] They don't call me "the Little Dipper" for nothing! [Anna notices Elsa giggling at her and gives her an "I'll kill you for this later" smile. Then the Duke tips Anna back up and spins her]

Anna: Oh! [He starts doing Lindsay Funke's "chicken dance" as he struts around Anna again]

Duke of Weselton: Like a chicken with the face of a monkey...I fly! [as the music ends, Anna limps back towards Elsa]

Duke of Weselton: Let me know when you're ready for another round, my lady!

Elsa: Well, he was sprightly.

Anna: Ah! Especially for a man in heels!

Elsa: Are you okay?

Anna: I've never been better. This is so nice! I wish it could be like this all the time.

Elsa: Me too... [Elsa catches herself, remembering the accident with Anna from childhood, stiffens and looks away] ...but it can't.

Anna: Why not? I mean, if we... [Anna goes to hug Elsa but she pulls away]

Elsa: It just can't!

Anna: Excuse me for a minute.

I Love Crazy!

Anna : Okay, can I just say something crazy?

Hans : I love crazy!

Yes!

Hans : Can I say something crazy? Will you marry me?

Anna : Can I say something even crazier? Yes!

I Said, Enough!

[Anna and Hans approach Elsa seeking for her to bless their engagement. Elsa looks outright lost]

Elsa: What? No. No, no, no, no! Just wait. Slow down. No one's brothers are staying here. No one is getting married.

Anna: Wait, what?

Elsa: May I talk to you, please? Alone? Anna: No! Whatever you have to say, you... you can say to both of us.

Elsa: Fine. You can't marry a man you just met!

Anna: You can if it's true love!

Elsa: Anna, what do you know about true love?

Anna: More than you! All you know is how to shut people out!

Elsa: [looks hurt by Anna's words, but remains calm] You asked for my blessing, but my answer is "no". Now...excuse me. [Elsa starts to walk away]

Hans: Your Majesty, if I may ease your...

Elsa: No, you may not. And I...I think you should go. [to a guard] The party is over. Close the gates.

Guard : Yes, your majesty.

Anna : What? Elsa, no! No, wait! [She tries to grab Elsa's hand, but instead yanks off her glove. Elsa gasps in horror.]

Elsa : [desperately] Give me my glove!

Anna : [also desperate] Elsa, please! Please! I can't live like this anymore!

Elsa : [pauses] Then leave. [Anna looks at her, looking hurt. Elsa then turns to leave.]

Anna : [calling after her] What did I ever do to you?!

Elsa : [impatiently] Enough, Anna.

Anna : No! Why?! Why do you shut me out?! Why-Why do you shut the world out?! WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF?ǃ

Elsa : I SAID, ENOUGHǃ [Elsa swings her hand around, shooting out a wall of icicles around her. Everyone - including Anna - stares at her in shock. Elsa shrinks back, staring in horror at what she's done]

Duke of Weselton : Sorcery. [hides behind one of his bodyguards] I knew there was something dubious going on here.

Anna : [shocked] Elsa...? [Devastated, Elsa flees the ballroom.]

Monster!

[Having fled the ballroom, Elsa barges out the front doors to find a large crowd gathered outside] Bystander: There she is! [The crowd starts applauding. Elsa takes one look at the crowd and rushes through, in a big hurry, attracting remarks from various men, until she is stopped by a woman holding a baby in her arms]

Mother: Your Majesty? Are you all right? [Elsa shakes her head and slowly backs into an ornamental fountain. When her left hand touches the marble, it instantaneously begins icing over. The water in the fountain then freezes, startling the crowd. The duke appears at the front doorway]

Duke of Weselton: There she is! Stop her!

Elsa: [scared] Please, just stay away from me! Stay away! [Her ice magic suddenly hurls a blast of ice at the Duke, knocking him and his guards down]

Duke of Weselton: Monsterǃ Monster! [Elsa takes one look and keeps on running]

She Was Scared

Duke of Weselton : [to Anna] You! [hides behind his bodyguards again] Is there sorcery in you, too? Are you a monster, too?ǃ

Anna : No! No, I'm completely ordinary.

Hans : That's right, she is. [Anna looks at him quizzically] In... in the best way. [Anna smiles at him]

Anna: My-my sister's not a monster.

Duke of Weselton: She nearly killed me!

Hans: You slipped on ice.

Duke of Weselton: Her ice!

Anna: It was an accident. She didn't mean it! She didn't mean any of this! She was scared. Tonight was my fault. I pushed her, so I'm the one that needs to go after her.

Hans: What?

Ten Vill Get You This

Ten Vill Get You This

[Anna staggers up to the porch of a cabin in the woods, her dress very stiff after falling in a creek. She knocks some snow off the sign]

Anna: "Wandering Oaken's Trading Post." [Snow falls off the little sign below it] Ooh! "And Sauna!" [Anna enters the trading post. The wind slams the door shut behind her]

Oaken : Hoo-hoo!

Anna: Hmmm? [She takes notice of Oaken, sitting behind the counter]

Oaken: Big summer blowout! Half off swimming suits, clogs, and a sun balm of my own invention, ja ?

Anna : [a little fazed] Oh, great. For now, um, how about boots? Winter boots? A-And dresses?

Oaken : That vould be in our vinter department. [Anna glances at the winter department, where there's almost nothing left]

Anna : Oh... [She picks out the one pair of boots and dress that are still in stock] Um, I was just wondering, has another young woman--the Queen perhaps, I don't know--passed through here?

Oaken : Only one crazy enough to be out in this storm is you, dear. [The door opens and Kristoff staggers inside, completely covered in snow from head to toe. Anna stares at him like he's some kind of strange anomaly]

Oaken: ...You and this fellow? Hoo-hoo! [holds up his sunbalm] Big summer blowout! [Kristoff steps towards

Anna, who starts humming nervously and leans back] Kristoff: [muffled] Carrots.

Anna: Huh? [Kristoff leans in, pretty much getting in Anna's face]

Kristoff: Behind you. [Anna sees Kristoff is gesturing to some carrots on a shelf below the counter]

Anna: [smiles] Oh! Right! Excuse me. [She steps to the side. Kristoff grabs a bundle of carrots and places them on the counter]

Oaken : Oooh, a real howler in July, yes? Vherever could it be coming from?

Kristoff : The North Mountain. [As he says this, he picks up a rope and an axe from the winter department shelves]

Anna : The North Mountain? [Kristoff places his supplies down on the desk]

Oaken : That'll be forty.

Kristoff : Forty?! No, ten!

Oaken : Oh, dear, that's no good! See, zis is from our vinter stock, vhere the supply and demand have a big problem?

Kristoff : You want to talk about a "supply and demand" problem?! I sell ice for a living! [Anna looks at Kristoff's sled parked outside, loaded with ice blocks]

Anna : Ooh, that's a rough business to be in right now! I mean, that is really-- [Kristoff begins glaring at her. Anna clears her throat] Ahem, that's unfortunate.

Oaken : Still forty. But I vill throw in a visit to Oaken's Sauna! [He waves to the family currently occupying the sauna] Hoo-hoo! Hi, family!

Sauna Family : Hoo-hoo! [Anna waves at the family]

Kristoff : Ten's all I've got! Help me out!

Oaken : Okay. [He repositions the carrots in front of Kristoff's other supplies] Ten vill get you this, and no more.

Anna : Okay, just tell me one thing: What was happening on the North Mountain? Did it seem... magical ?

Kristoff : [removes his scarf, exasperated] YES! Now back up... while I deal with this crook here! [Oaken stands up, clearly offended at being called a crook]

Oaken : Vhat did you call me? [Cuts to Oaken walking out the front door, carrying Kristoff over his shoulder]

Kristoff : Okay! Okay! I'm out! [Oaken effortlessly throws him off the porch like a sack of potatoes] WHOOOOA!!!

Oaken : Bye-bye! [Oaken goes back inside and slams the door shut behind him. Sven bolts up to Kristoff, begging for carrots]

Kristoff: No, Sven, I didn't get your carrots. [Sven moans] But I did find us a place to sleep, and it's free! [His gaze shifts to the stable adjacent to the store. Meanwhile, Oaken returns to his desk]

Oaken: [cheerfully] I'm sorry about this violence! I vill add a quart of lutefisk so we have good feelings. [He places a jar of pickled lutefisk next to the rest of Anna's stuff] Just the outfit and the boots, ja ?

Anna: Uh....

We Leave Now

[Kristoff has crashed in Oaken's stable and is strumming a lullaby to Sven]

Kristoff: ...Don't let the frostbite bite... [The door suddenly flies open and Anna comes in]

Anna: Nice duet. [Kristoff jumps]

Kristoff: Ah! [sees that it's just Anna] Oh, it's just you. What do you want?

Anna: I want you to take me up the North Mountain. [Kristoff sighs and falls back on a hay bale, putting his hat over his eyes to use as a sleep mask]

Kristoff: I don't take people places.

Anna: Let me rephrase that. [Anna throws a sack at Kristoff] Take me up the North Mountain... please . [Kristoff looks in the sack and finds the rope and axe he tried to purchase] Look, I know how to stop this winter. [Kristoff sighs in defeat]

Kristoff: We leave at dawn. And you forgot the carrots for Sven. [Anna throws another sack at Kristoff. He finds it has the carrots]

Anna: Oh, sorry! Sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't... [Anna clears her throat and puts her arms on her hips] We leave now . Right now.

All Men Do

[Anna and Kristoff are riding on Kristoff's sled]

Kristoff: Hang on! We like to go fast!

Anna: I like fast! [She props her feet up on the "dashboard"]

Kristoff: Whoa, whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! Get your feet down. This is fresh lacquer. Seriously, were you raised in a barn? [He spits on the spot where Anna had her feet propped up. Some of the spit gets in Anna's face]

Anna: Ugh! No, I was raised in a castle!

Kristoff: Hmmm. So, uh tell me. What made the Queen go all ice-crazy?

Anna : Oh, well, it was all my fault . I got engaged, but then she freaked out because I'd only just met him, you know, that day, and she said she wouldn't bless the marriage and-

Kristoff : Wait. You got engaged to someone you just met that day?

Anna : Yeah. Anyway, I got mad ,and so she got mad and then she tried to walk away and I grabbed her glove

Kristoff : HANG ON! You mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met that day ?!

Anna : Yes, pay attention! But the thing is, she wore the gloves all the time, so I just thought, "Maybe she has a thing about dirt!"

Kristoff : Didn't your parents ever warn you about strangers?

Anna : .....Yyyyyyyyyessss, they did. [She scoots a little ways to the edge of the seat] But Hans is not a stranger!

Kristoff : Oh, yeah? What's his last name?

Anna : [scoffing] Of-the-Southern-Isles!

Kristoff : What's his favorite food?

Anna : Sandwiches.

Kristoff : Best friend's name?

Anna : Probably John.

Kristoff : Eye color?

Anna : Dreamy.

Kristoff : Foot size?

Anna : Foot size doesn't matter!

Kristoff : Have you had a meal with him yet? What if you hate the way he eats? What if you hate the way he picks his nose?

Anna : Picks his nose?!

Kristoff : And eats it.

Anna : Excuse me, sir, he is a prince ! [beat]

Kristoff : All men do it.

Anna : Ew! [scoffs] Look, it doesn't matter; it's true love !

Kristoff : Doesn't sound like true love.

Anna : Are you some sort of love expert?

Kristoff : No, but... I have friends who are.

Anna : You have friends who are love experts? I'm not buying it. [Sven suddenly comes to a stop]

Kristoff : Stop talking.

Anna : No, no, no, no, no! I'd like to meet these-

Kristoff : No! I mean it! [Anna shoves his hand away from her mouth and tries to speak]

Kristoff: SSSHHH! [Kristoff scans the area behind them with his lantern. He sees a pack of hungry wolves slowly approaching them] Sven, go. GO!

Jump, Sven!

[Anna, Kristoff, and Sven are fleeing from hungry wolves] Anna : What do we do?!

Kristoff : I got this! Just... don't fall off and don't get eatenǃ

Anna : But I wanna help!

Kristoff : No!

Anna : Why not?!

Kristoff : Because I don't trust your judgement!

Anna : Excuse me?!

Kristoff : [kicks away a wolf] Who marries a man she just met?! [Anna grabs Kristoff's lute]

Anna : IT'S TRUE LOVE!!

Kristoff : Whoa! [Anna swings the lute like it's a baseball bat to smack away a wolf] Whoa. [A wolf grabs Kristoff and yanks him off the sled] WHOA!

Anna : Christopher! [Kristoff is now being dragged behind the sled]

Kristoff : It's KRISTOFF! [Anna uses the lantern to light up the bedroll and tosses it]

Anna: Duck! [The flaming bedroll takes down both wolves trying to bite Kristoff. Kristoff pulls himself back onto the sled]

Kristoff: You almost set me on fire!

Anna: But I didn't! [Anna helps pull Kristoff back onto the sled. They suddenly go bug-eyed as they see a cliff up ahead]

Anna: Get ready to jump, Sven!

Kristoff: You don't tell him what to do! [Kristoff shoves his satchel into Anna's arms and throws her onto Sven's back]

Kristoff: I do! [He cuts Sven's harness with his knife] Jump, Sven! [Sven successfully clears the chasm and lands with Anna on the other side. Kristoff jumps from the sled halfway across and lands hands first. He looks down just as his sled hits the bottom of the cliff and bursts into flames]  Kristoff: No! But I just paid it off!

Hold Up!

Walt Disney quote: If you can visualize it, if you can dream it, there's some way...

If you can visualize it, if you can dream it, there's some way to do it.

Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age. And dreams are forever.

All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.

Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it they will want to come back and see you do it again and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

walt disney quotes frozen & pictures biography

Believe in your dreams, no matter how impossible they seem.

The four Cs of making dreams come true: Curiosity, Courage, Consistency, Confidence.

The difference in winning & losing is most often, not quitting.

If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.

Think, Believe, Dream, and Dare.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.

That's the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.

If you can dream it, you can do it.

Progress is impossible without change

Curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

There is no magic in magic, it's all in the details.

Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.

Whether you say you can't or you can, you're right.

Life is beautiful. It's about giving. It's about family.

Worry is a waste of imagination.

Do what you do so well - and so uniquely - that people can't resist telling others about you

It's kind of fun to do the impossible.

Today, we are shapers of the world of tomorrow. That is plain truth. There is no way we can duck the responsibility, and there is no reason why we should.

Happiness is a state of mind. It's just according to the way you look at things.

Starting with the Reddit… Round table. Reddit round table is where a woman wrote in saying, um, that she was, uh, in a bad place and was gonna commit suicide, and saw Frozen and inspired by Elsa and, and her journey, and she said, and I’m still here. • Well, our art director knew it would be a Scandinavian area. He was just going through books, and, he’d seen a lot of internet stuff too. He was posting all these pages on Scandinavia you know, beautiful scenery and architecture, and almost all the post-its were Norway. So he said okay. Well, you know, we need our trip to Norway. Now we don’t say that it’s set in Norway. But it helps to have something specific to kind of draw from. So it makes the world very believable. And there are ideas in Norway, we’d never have come up with on our own, the, the stave church, which was very beautiful.

Elias Disney, an Irish-Canadian, was Disney’s father. Flora Call Disney, his mother, was German-American. Disney was one of five children, four of whom were boys and one of which was a female.

Walt Disney’s Youth

Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in the Chicago neighborhood of Hermosa, Illinois. He spent most of his boyhood in Marceline, Missouri, where he began drawing, painting, and selling his work to neighbors and family members.

In 1911, his family relocated to Kansas City, where he acquired an interest in railroads. Mike Martin, his uncle, was a railway engineer who operated the route between Fort Madison, Iowa, and Marceline, Iowa. Later, Disney would work for the railway as a summer employee, selling refreshments and newspapers to passengers.

Disney attended McKinley High School in Chicago, where he studied painting and photography and contributed cartoons to the school newspaper. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago at night.

Disney walked out of school at the age of 16 to join the Army but was turned down because he was underage. Instead, he joined the Red Cross and was sent to drive an ambulance in France for a year. In 1919, he returned to the United States.

The Early Cartoons of Walt Disney

Disney relocated to Kansas City in 1919 to seek a career as a newspaper illustrator. His brother Roy arranged for him to work at the Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio, where he met cartoonist Ubbe Eert Iwwerks, also known as Ub Iwerks. Disney went on to work at the Kansas City Film Ad Company, where he created ads using cutout animation.

Disney began experimenting with a camera during this period, creating hand-drawn cel animation. He made the decision to start his own animation company. He hired Fred Harman from the advertising firm as his first employee.

Disney and Harman struck an agreement with a small Kansas City theatre to broadcast their Laugh-O-Grams cartoons. The cartoons were enormously popular, and Disney was able to establish his own studio, which he named after himself.

Iwerks and Harman’s brother Hugh were among those employed by Laugh-O-Gram. They created Alice in Cartoonland, a series of seven-minute fairy tales that mixed live-action and animation.

However, by 1923, the studio had grown insolvent, and Disney was forced to declare bankruptcy.

Disney’s Animation Studios

In 1923, Walt Disney and his brother Roy relocated to Hollywood with cartoonist Ub Iwerks to establish the Disney Brothers’ Cartoon Studio. At Roy’s suggestion, the firm immediately changed its name to Walt Disney Studios.

The Walt Disney Studios’ first distribution agreement was with New York distributor Margaret Winkler for their Alice cartoons. They also created a character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and paid $1,500 for each short. In the late 1920s, the studios broke away from their distributors and began producing cartoons starring Mickey Mouse and his pals.

Walt Disney Animation Studios built a new facility in Burbank in December 1939. When Disney animators went on strike in 1941, the firm suffered a setback. Many of them left. It would take years for the firm to fully recover.

Flowers and Trees (1932), one of the Disney Studio’s most successful cartoons, was the first to be made in color and to win an Oscar. The Three Little Pigs and its title tune “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” became a motif for the country during the Great Depression in 1933.

Mickey Mouse and Other Walt Disney Characters

Steamboat Willie, a sound-and-music-equipped animated short, was Disney’s first popular feature featuring Mickey Mouse. It premiered on November 18, 1928, at the Colony Theatre in New York. The sound had only recently entered film, and Disney was the voice of Mickey, a figure he created and had drawn by his top animator, Ub Iwerks. The cartoon became an instant hit.

Out of necessity, the Disney brothers, their wives, and Ub Iwerks created two previous silent animated cartoons starring Mickey Mouse, Plane Crazy, and The Gallopin’ Gaucho. The crew determined that Disney’s New York distributor, Margaret Winkler, and her husband, Charles Mintz, had stolen the rights to all of Disney’s animators save Ub Iwerks. The two first Mickey Mouse films were never released because the sound was already revolutionizing the cinema business.

In 1929, Disney released Silly Symphonies, which included Mickey’s freshly formed pals Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto.

Walt Disney Films

Disney created almost 100 feature films. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, his first full-length animated feature, debuted in Los Angeles on December 21, 1937. Despite the Great Depression, it grossed an unfathomable $1.499 million and won eight Academy Awards. This prompted Walt Disney Studios to produce a new batch of full-length animated features over the next five years.

During the mid-1940s, Disney developed “packaged features,” which were collections of short films linked together to run at feature length. By 1950, he was back to concentrating on animated films.

Disney’s final significant success that he created personally was the 1964 film Mary Poppins, which combined live-action and animation.

Among Disney’s other most well-known films are:

  • Pinocchio was released in 1940.
  • Fantasia (1940) is a Disney film.
  • Dumbo (1941)
  • Bambi (1942)
  • Cinderella (film)
  • Treasure Island (film, 1950)
  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1951)
  • Peter Pan (film, 1953)
  • Lady and the Tramp is a 1955 film.
  • Sleeping Beauty (film, 1959)
  • 101 Dalmatians (film, 1961)

Disney Television Shows

Disney was also one of the first people to embrace television as a kind of entertainment. The Zorro and Davy Crockett programs, as well as The Mickey Mouse Club, a variety show featuring a cast of teens known as the Mouseketeers, were highly popular with youngsters. Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Colour was a famous Sunday night show that Disney used to launch its new theme park promotion.

Walt Disney World

On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney’s $17 million Disneyland theme park debuted in Anaheim, California, on what was originally an orange grove. The events were presided over by actor (and future US President) Ronald Reagan. Following a stormy opening day that included multiple mistakes (including the delivery of thousands of fraudulent invites), the site became recognized as a destination for children and their families to explore, enjoy rides, and meet Disney characters.

In a relatively short period of time, the park had tenfold expanded its investment and was entertaining guests from all over the world.

Over the years, attendance at the original venue fluctuated. Disneyland’s rides have grown over time, and the company has expanded overseas, including Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, and parks in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. California Adventure, a sister attraction, debuted in Los Angeles in 2001.

The Walt Disney World Resort

Within a few years following the 1955 inauguration of Disneyland, Disney began planning for a new theme park and the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) in Florida. When Walt Disney died in 1966, it was still under development. After Walt Disney died, his brother Roy proceeded with the plans to complete the Florida theme park, which opened in 1971 as Walt Disney World.

Wife, Children, and Grandchildren of Walt Disney

Lillian Bounds, an ink-and-paint artist, was employed by Disney in 1925. The pair married after a brief relationship.

Lillian Bounds and Walt Disney had two children. Diane Disney Miller, the couple’s sole biological daughter, was born in 1933. Sharon Disney Lund was adopted immediately after her birth in 1936.

Ronald Miller, Diane’s spouse, has seven children: Christopher, Joanna, Tamara, Walter, Jennifer, Patrick, and Ronald Miller Jr.

Victoria Disney was adopted by Sharon and her first husband, Robert Brown. Bill Lund, Sharon’s second husband, was a real estate entrepreneur who explored the 27,000 acres that became Disney World in Orlando. Brad and Michelle, their twins, were born in 1970.

Sharon’s family was mired in a feud following her death in 1993 when her trust was made available to her three children. The trust had a provision that permitted Sharon’s ex-husband Bill Lund and sister Diane to withdraw cash if they could demonstrate that Sharon’s children couldn’t handle the money correctly. This resulted in claims of conspiracy and mental incapacity, as well as allegations of incest, and an unpleasant two-week trial in December 2013.

When and How Walt Disney Passed Away

Disney died on December 15, 1966, at the age of 65, after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 1966. Disney’s ashes were buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.

Walt Disney Quotes on Film

Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.
I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.
I don’t make pictures just to make money. I make money to make more pictures.
We are not trying to entertain the critics. I’ll take my chances with the public.
I never called my work an ‘art’. It’s part of show business, the business of building entertainment. At first the cartoon medium was just a novelty, but it never really began to hit until we had more than tricks… until we developed personalities. We had to get beyond getting a laugh. They may roll in the aisles, but that doesn’t mean you have a great picture. You have pathos in the thing.
I am interested in entertaining people, in bringing pleasure, particularly laughter, to others, rather than being concerned with ‘expressing’ myself with obscure creative impressions.
Movies can and do have tremendous influence in shaping young lives in the realm of entertainment towards the ideals and objectives of normal adulthood. Walt Disney Quotes
Fantasy and reality often overlap.
Because the eye is the most sensitive and dependable of our sense organs, the motion picture offers the widest, direct avenue to our emotions. Whereas the still picture can suggest only a fragment of fact or fiction, the cartoon-in-motion is without limit in communicating ideas, events, and human relations.

Disney Quotes on Animation

Animation offers a medium of story telling and visual entertainment which can bring pleasure and information to people of all ages everywhere in the world.
We have created characters and animated them in the dimension of depth, revealing through them to our perturbed world that the things we have in common far outnumber and outweigh those that divide us.
I take great pride in the artistic development of cartoons. Our characters are made to go through emotions.
In learning the art of storytelling by animation, I have discovered that language has an anatomy.
Animation is different from other parts. Its language is the language of caricature. Our most difficult job was to develop the cartoon’s unnatural but seemingly natural anatomy for humans and animals.
Animation can explain whatever the mind of man can conceive. This facility makes it the most versatile and explicit means of communication yet devised for quick mass appreciation.
In our animation we must show only the actions and reactions of a character, but we must picture also with the action… the feeling of those characters.
I think a good study of music would be indispensable to the animators – a realization on their part of how primitive music is, how natural it is for people to want to go to music – a study of rhythm, the dance – the various rhythms enter into our lives every day.
I think you have to know these fellows definitely before you can draw them. When you start to caricature a person, you can’t do it without knowing the person. Take Laurel and Hardy for example; everybody can see Laurel doing certain things because they know Laurel.

mickey-mouse-fantasia

Walt on His Famous Characters

All cartoon characters and fables must be exaggeration, caricatures. It is the very nature of fantasy and fable. I try to build a full personality for each of our cartoon characters – to make them personalities.
Until a character becomes a personality it cannot be believed. Without personality, the character may do funny or interesting things, but unless people are able to identify themselves with the character, its actions will seem unreal. And without personality, a story cannot ring true to the audience.
I love Mickey Mouse more than any woman I have ever known.
When people laugh at Mickey Mouse, it’s because he’s so human; and that is the secret of his popularity.
I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.

Quotes on Laughter and Comedy

Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.
The proper comedy for the screen is visual. Films try to get too many laughs out of the dialogue. We use pantomime not wisecracks. Portrayal of human sensations by inanimate objects such as steam shovels and rocking-chairs never fail to provoke laughter. Human distress exemplified by animals is sure-fire. A bird that jumps after swallowing a grasshopper is a natural. Surprise is always provocative.
Laughter is America’s most important export.
There’s nothing funnier than the human animal.
For every laugh, there should be a tear.

Disney Quotes on Teamwork

Courage is the main quality of leadership, in my opinion, no matter where it is exercised. Usually it implies some risk – especially in new undertakings. Courage to initiate something and to keep it going, pioneering and adventurous spirit to blaze new ways, often, in our land of opportunity.
All you’ve got to do is own up to your ignorance honestly, and you’ll find people who are eager to fill your head with information.
Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.
We allow no geniuses around our Studio.
Whatever we accomplish is due to the combined effort. I am in no sense of the word a great artist, not even a great animator; I have always had men working for me whose skills were greater than my own. I am an idea man.

walt on film set

Walt on the Film Industry

Times and conditions change so rapidly that we must keep our aim constantly focused on the future.
I am not influenced by the techniques or fashions of any other motion picture company.
Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.
When we consider a project, we really study it—not just the surface idea, but everything about it. And when we go into that new project, we believe in it all the way. We have confidence in our ability to do it right. And we work hard to do the best possible job.
I have never been interested in personal gain or profit. This business and this studio have been my entire life. I wanted to retain my individuality. I was afraid of being hampered by studio policies. I knew if someone else got control, I would be restrained.
It’s no secret that we were sticking just about every nickel we had on the chance that people would really be interested in something totally new and unique in the field of entertainment.
Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.
[observation, 1940] ‘Fantasia’ merely makes our other pictures look immature and suggests for the first time what the future of this medium may well turn out to be. What I see way off there is too nebulous to describe. But it looks big and glittering. That’s what I like about this business, the certainty that there is something bigger and more exciting just around the bend – and the uncertainty of everything else.
I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence.
We don’t actually make films for children, but we make films that children can enjoy along with the parents.
You’re dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway. I don’t believe in playing down to children, either in life or in motion pictures. I didn’t treat my own youngsters like fragile flowers, and I think no parent should.
I have been up against tough competition all my life. I wouldn’t know how to get along without it.
Instead of considering TV a rival, when I saw it, I said, “I can use that; I want to be a part of it”. The growth of television as a medium of mass communication among people around the earth cannot be halted, nor much longer delayed.
I don’t like to repeat successes. I like to go on to other things.
Ideas come from curiosity.
Money doesn’t excite me, my ideas excite me.

Disney Motivational Quotes

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing
When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.
Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.
When you go to bat as many times as I do, you’re bound to get a good average.
You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.
To the youngsters of today, I say, “Believe in the future, the world is getting better, there is still plenty of opportunity.” Why, would you believe it, when I was a kid I thought it was already too late for me to make good at anything?
All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
Dreams, ideas, and plans not only are an escape, they give me purpose, a reason to hang on.
It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.
Do a good job. You don’t have to worry about the money; it will take care of itself. Just do your best work – then try to trump it.
I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks, and I execute my vision to make those dreams come true.
When I was a kid, a book I read advised young artists to be themselves. That decided it for me. I was a corny kind of guy, so I went in for corn.
The era we are living in today is a dream coming true.
Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right.
… And just like that, after a long wait, a day like any else, I decided to triumph, to look for the opportunities, not to wait. I decided to see every problem as the opportunity to find a solution. I decided to see every desert as the opportunity to find an oasis. I decided to see every night as a mystery to solve. I decided to see every day as a new opportunity to be happy. That day I found that my only enemies were my own weaknesses, That day I lost the fear of losing and I started to fear not winning, I discovered that I was not the best and maybe never have been. I stopped caring about who was the winner and who was the loser. Now I care only about knowing more than yesterday. I learned that the hard thing is to stop climbing to the top, instead of not reaching it. I learned that the best triumph that I can have is to have the right of calling someone ‘my friend’ I discovered that love is more than a feeling of being in love, ‘love is a philosophy of life.’ That day I stopped being a reflection of the few triumphs in my past, and I started to be my own tenuous light of the present; I learned that it does not matter if you are alight… if you are not going to illuminate another’s road. That day I decided to change so many things… That day I learned that dreams only exist to be made to come true. Since that day I don’t sleep to rest… Now, I dream just for dreams.
If you can dream it, you can do it. Walt Disney Quotes

Walt Disney Wisdom and Life Lessons

The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.
A person should set his goals as early as he can and devote all his energy and talent to getting there. With enough effort, he may achieve it. Or he may find something that is even more rewarding. But in the end, no matter what the outcome, he will know he has been alive.
The more you are in a state of gratitude, the more you will attract things to be grateful for.
Happiness is a state of mind. It’s just according to the way you look at things.
I always look on the optimistic side of life but I am realistic enough to know the life is a complex matter.
Most of my life I have done what I wanted to do. I have had fun on the job.
The difference in winning and losing is most often not quitting.
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.
When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.
I believe in being an innovator.
The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.
Somehow I can’t believe there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C’s. They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy, and the greatest of these is Confidence. When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.
First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. And finally, dare.

Is Walt Disney's Body Frozen?

Rumor has it the animation legend was frozen after death so he could be reanimated in the future. Is it a myth? Read on for the truth about Disney's deep freeze.

walt disney

His fascination with the future fueled rumors

Over the years, proponents of this seemingly absurd rumor have cited the secrecy surrounding Disney’s death and burial as evidence of its veracity. They claim that news of his passing was intentionally delayed in order to give his handlers time to place his body in cryonic suspension and that both his funeral and the actual location of his burial plot have been kept secret as a means of further concealing the truth of his interment.

Disney’s lifelong interest in the future, projects such as his EPCOT Center (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) and the technical innovations for which he was known throughout his career would no doubt have lent the rumor a certain air of truth, while a Time magazine article about the cryonic freezing of a 73-year-old psychology professor also lent its weight.

The assertions of two separate biographies of Disney — Leonard Mosely’s Disney’s World (1986) and Marc Eliot’s Walt Disney: Hollywood’s Dark Prince (1993) — which claimed that an obsession with death led Disney to an interest in cryonics, surely did their part to perpetuate it through the years as well.

Walt Disney Photo

Disney's daughter has denied that he's cryogenically frozen

The exact origins of the rumor are uncertain, but it first appeared in print in a 1969 Ici Paris article in which a Disney executive attributed it to a group of disgruntled animators seeking to have a laugh at their late taskmaster employer’s expense.

Disney’s daughter, Diane, wrote in a 1972 biography about her famous father that she doubted her father had even heard of cryonics. It has been further discredited by those pointing to the existence of signed legal documents that indicate Disney was in fact cremated and that his remains are interred in a marked plot (for which his estate paid $40,000) at Forest Lawn, the exact location of which is a matter of public record.

Further, by all accounts, Disney was known to be a very private man in life, making the quiet circumstances of his cremation and burial far from suspect, and the assertions in Mosely’s and Eliot’s biographies have been widely rejected as unfounded.

The science behind cryonics is still developing

Yet despite the apparent lack of any credible evidence supporting a connection between it and Disney, the existence of cryonics is very much a reality. Since 1964, when Robert Ettinger published a work discussing the plausibility of freezing human beings for the purpose of bringing them back to life, a significant cryonics industry has developed in the United States.

Today, companies such as Suspended Animation Inc. , Cryonics Institute and Alcor Life Extension Foundation offer their clients the opportunity to have their bodies placed in a large metal tank in a state of deep freeze known as “cryostasis,” for the purpose of being restored to life and complete physical and mental health at a theoretical point in the future when medical science is advanced enough to do so.

According to reports , there are hundreds of people being kept in cryostasis at facilities around the country and thousands more that have already made arrangements for their own preservation. Following his death in 2004, baseball legend Ted Williams became the highest-profile person to date to be placed in cryostasis.

Cryonics is not without its detractors , however. Its science has been largely dismissed as fantastical. Still, it’s the futuristic stuff of science fiction that maybe even Disney himself would have appreciated.

Walt Disney

Walt Disney

  • Born December 5 , 1901 · Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • Died December 15 , 1966 · Los Angeles, California, USA (complications from lung cancer)
  • Birth name Walter Elias Disney
  • Height 5′ 10″ (1.78 m)
  • Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Flora Disney (née Call) and Elias Disney , a Canadian-born farmer and businessperson. He had Irish, German, and English ancestry. Walt moved with his parents to Kansas City at age seven, where he spent the majority of his childhood. At age 16, during World War I, he faked his age to join the American Red Cross. He soon returned home, where he won a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. There, he met a fellow animator, Ub Iwerks . The two soon set up their own company. In the early 1920s, they made a series of animated shorts for the Newman theater chain, entitled "Newman's Laugh-O-Grams". Their company soon went bankrupt, however. The two then went to Hollywood in 1923. They started work on a new series, about a live-action little girl who journeys to a world of animated characters. Entitled the "Alice Comedies", they were distributed by M.J. Winkler (Margaret). Walt was backed up financially only by Winkler and his older brother Roy O. Disney , who remained his business partner for the rest of his life. Hundreds of "Alice Comedies" were produced between 1923 and 1927, before they lost popularity. Walt then started work on a series around a new animated character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This series was successful, but in 1928, Walt discovered that M.J. Winkler and her husband, Charles Mintz , had stolen the rights to the character away from him. They had also stolen all his animators, except for Ub Iwerks . While taking the train home, Walt started doodling on a piece of paper. The result of these doodles was a mouse named Mickey. With only Walt and Ub to animate, and Walt's wife Lillian Disney (Lilly) and Roy's wife Edna Disney to ink in the animation cells, three Mickey Mouse cartoons were quickly produced. The first two didn't sell, so Walt added synchronized sound to the last one, Steamboat Willie (1928) , and it was immediately picked up. With Walt as the voice of Mickey, it premiered to great success. Many more cartoons followed. Walt was now in the big time, but he didn't stop creating new ideas. In 1929, he created the 'Silly Symphonies', a cartoon series that didn't have a continuous character. They were another success. One of them, Flowers and Trees (1932) , was the first cartoon to be produced in color and the first cartoon to win an Oscar; another, Three Little Pigs (1933) , was so popular it was often billed above the feature films it accompanied. The Silly Symphonies stopped coming out in 1939, but Mickey and friends, (including Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and plenty more), were still going strong and still very popular. In 1934, Walt started work on another new idea: a cartoon that ran the length of a feature film. Everyone in Hollywood was calling it "Disney's Folly", but Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was anything but, winning critical raves, the adoration of the public, and one big and seven little special Oscars for Walt. Now Walt listed animated features among his ever-growing list of accomplishments. While continuing to produce cartoon shorts, he also started producing more of the animated features. Pinocchio (1940) , Dumbo (1941) , and Bambi (1942) were all successes; not even a flop like Fantasia (1940) and a studio animators' strike in 1941 could stop Disney now. In the mid 1940s, he began producing "packaged features", essentially a group of shorts put together to run feature length, but by 1950 he was back with animated features that stuck to one story, with Cinderella (1950) , Alice in Wonderland (1951) , and Peter Pan (1953) . In 1950, he also started producing live-action films, with Treasure Island (1950) . These began taking on greater importance throughout the 50s and 60s, but Walt continued to produce animated features, including Lady and the Tramp (1955) , Sleeping Beauty (1959) , and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) . In 1955 he opened a theme park in southern California: Disneyland. It was a place where children and their parents could take rides, just explore, and meet the familiar animated characters, all in a clean, safe environment. It was another great success. Walt also became one of the first producers of films to venture into television, with his series The Magical World of Disney (1954) which he began in 1954 to promote his theme park. He also produced The Mickey Mouse Club (1955) and Zorro (1957) . To top it all off, Walt came out with the lavish musical fantasy Mary Poppins (1964) , which mixed live-action with animation. It is considered by many to be his magnum opus. Even after that, Walt continued to forge onward, with plans to build a new theme park and an experimental prototype city in Florida. He did not live to see the culmination of those plans, however; in 1966, he developed lung cancer brought on by his lifelong chain-smoking. He died of a heart attack following cancer surgery on December 15, 1966 at age 65. But not even his death, it seemed, could stop him. Roy carried on plans to build the Florida theme park, and it premiered in 1971 under the name Walt Disney World. His company continues to flourish, still producing animated and live-action films and overseeing the still-growing empire started by one man: Walt Disney, who will never be forgotten. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Tommy Peter

  • Main characters using big white gloves (Example: Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Peter Pete, Jiminy Cricket, etc.)
  • His moustache
  • Animated Films
  • Distinctive, deep voice
  • Personally disliked Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Peter Pan (1953) because of the lack of "heart" and "warmth" in their main characters. Was very sad about the unfavorable reception of Fantasia (1940) as he was proud of the film. Ironically, the first re-issue of Fantasia (1940) after his death was the first time it turned a profit.
  • Reports surfaced that shortly after his death, Disney Company executive board members were shown a short film that Disney had made before his death, where he addressed the board members by name, telling each of them what was expected of them. The film ended with Disney saying, "I'll be seeing you."
  • Shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, an Army draft notice, addressed to Mr. Donald Duck, was delivered to the Disney studios.
  • Has a record of 59 Oscar-nominations.
  • Before his 35th birthday, his brother Roy encouraged employees to throw the boss a surprise party. Two of the animators thought it would be hilarious to make a short movie of Mickey and Minnie Mouse "consummating their relationship." When Disney saw the animation at the party, he feigned laughter and playfully asked who made the film. As soon as the two animators came forward, he fired them on the spot and left.
  • I don't make pictures just to make money. I make money to make more pictures.

  • I'm not interested in pleasing the critics. I'll take my chances pleasing the audiences.
  • I hope we'll never lose sight of one thing--that it was all started by a mouse.
  • I happen to be an inquisitive guy and when I see things I don't like, I start thinking why do they have to be like this and how can I improve them.
