The Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Hong Kong (HKU Business School) offers research postgraduate programmes leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil)* and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Our PhD programme is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the key aspects of business and economics.
Admission
Timeline for 2025-26 Admission; The main applications for the research degrees are invited in September 1, 2024 with the closing date of December 1, 2024.If there are study places left, clearing round applications may be invited in April and August with closing dates of April 30, 2024 (for September intake) and August 31, 2025 (for January intake).It is therefore to your advantage to apply early.

All applications should be submitted to the Online Application system. If you have enquiries regarding how to use the Online Application System, please contact the Graduate School by email at [email protected] or telephone: (852) 2857 3470. The Faculty reserves the right not to admit applicants who meet the minimum qualifications.

Programme Information. The University offers a wide range of full-time and part-time taught postgraduate programmes, ranging from one to three years in length. They operate on a semester system and candidates' academic progress is normally assessed by a combination of written examinations and project assignments throughout the year.
MPhil and PhD
Composition fees for full-time MPhil and PhD students, which are subject to revision, are currently HK$42,100 per year. Applicants for full-time study normally apply at the same time for a Postgraduate Studentship (HK$18,390 per month w.e.f. 1 September 2023).
