Significance of World Environment Day

World Environment day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year. More than 100 countries Worldwide join in the celebration of the World Environment day. It was started by the United Nations Environmental Program in the year 1973 and has been continuing till now. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about the Environment.

What is Environment?

Scientifically speaking, everything around us constitutes our Environment. Both living and non-Types of the Equation of the Motion living things make up our Environment. The living or biotic components include plants, animals and microbes, while the non-living or abiotic components include air, water, soil and so on.

Why is the Environment in Danger?

The Environment is in danger because of the high levels of pollution. All the major components of the Environment such as the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, the biosphere, all are trapped with pollutants. The rising level of pollutants is destroying the normal Environmental conditions.

This type of pollutants can be natural (for example volcanic eruptions, forest fires etc) or manmade (pollutants released from industries, emissions from cars). It is mainly man made pollution that has caused rapid destruction of the Environment. The major forms of pollution are air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution.

Why is it Necessary to Save the Environment?

The Environment is one of the most important tools for our survival on planet Earth. The Environment nurtures us and helps us survive. We cannot imagine life without air, water and soil. The biotic components like plants and animals are also important survival tools. Plants help purify the air around us. We get food from plants and animals.

All the components of the Environment are dependent on each other in a web of relations known as the ecological web. It is necessary to maintain this web in balance because if one component collapses then the entire web will crumble destroying all life forms. This is why we must choose to work towards preserving the Environment and undoing the damage we did.

What do we do on World Environment Day?

The main purpose of the World Environment day is to spread awareness about the current conditions of the Environment. On this day people come together to join in efforts to improve our life. Every year there is one theme or Environmental problem which is focused upon and a pledge to combat that problem is taken that year. For example for the year 2019, the theme was air pollution.

Organizations all around the World come together on this day, to take small steps to improve our future. Schools and offices encourage workers and students to plant trees or clean up some local land. These small efforts can leave a big impact on the Environment.

To improve the Environmental conditions the government and the international organizations must come together to fight the problems and save our Environment. Introducing stricter laws, condemning the use of plastics and planting more trees can help to curb pollution and help save the Environment. This can help spread awareness and help people lower the gravity of the pollution levels around them.

World Environment Day reminds us to consolidate our planet and ensure that the Environment is conserved at all costs. It illuminates the causes that cause the most damage in our Environment. For example, industries and industries play a major role in polluting. They reduce the amount of air we breathe and the water we consume.

Therefore, this Day serves as an eye-opener for many citizens who are unaware of all this. In other words , it spreads awareness to ordinary people about the current situation. In addition, it also encourages the community from different communities and communities to play an active role in celebrating this Day.

In addition, it also encourages them to be active in developing Environmental protection measures. Not only that, but it also encourages everyone to keep their Environment safe and clean so that everyone has a clean, green and prosperous future.

Eight Simple Things that can help to Protect the Earth

Reduce, reuse, and recycle - Reduce is the waste that you throw away. Follow the three "Rs" to conserve natural resources and a landfill.

Volunteers - Volunteer to clean up your community. You can take part in protecting your water Environment, too.

Education - As you further your education, you can help others understand the value and importance of our natural resources.

Save water - The water you use is low, decreases the flow and polluted water eventually seeps into the sea.

Shop wisely - Buy a small plastic bag and carry a reusable shopping bag.

Use durable lights - Energy-efficient lamps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And turn off the light when you leave the room!

Plant a tree - Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help fight climate change.

Do not send chemicals into our water - Choose non-toxic chemicals at home and in the office.

  • Humanity is using up the world’s resources faster than they can naturally recover, says the UN.
  • World Environment Day, on 5 June, is a global event to celebrate and encourage action on the climate crisis.
  • The cost of climate adaptation in developing nations is now estimated to be $500 billion a year.
  • CO2 emissions will need to halve by 2030, the UN says, to avoid temperature rises of 2.7C and higher by the end of the century.

We’re running out of time to save our planet - using up the equivalent of 1.6 Earths to maintain our current way of life - and nature simply cannot keep up with our demands. That’s the message from the organizers of World Environment Day 2022 on 5 June.

What is World Environment Day?

First held in 1973, World Environment Day is described as “a global platform for inspiring positive change” by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the organization that created it.

It is now the largest global environmental event, with millions of people in more than 150 countries participating. The idea is to engage “governments, businesses, civil society, schools, celebrities, cities and communities [in] raising awareness and celebrating environmental action”.

The 2022 World Environment Day, hosted by Sweden, campaigns for “collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet”, encouraging everyone, everywhere, to live sustainably and take action on the climate crisis.

This year marks 50 years since the first global environment summit. The 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm led to the founding of UNEP .

An close view of an insect

UNEP says that, despite a raft of climate agreements, progress towards halting climate change is still too slow and individuals and civil society must play a key role in raising awareness and urging governments and the private sector to make large-scale changes.

Closing the adaptation gap

The cost of climate change is rising, says Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP, as is the gap between what is being spent to adapt to climate change and what is needed . As recently as 2014, the cost of adaptation in developing nations was estimated at $100 billion a year . Today that figure is $500 billion .

To limit the rise in global temperature, which is driving climate change, to 1.5C, worldwide CO2 emissions will need to halve by 2030, UNEP says. If there is no change in current plans, temperatures will be 2.7C higher by the end of the century .

Climate change poses an urgent threat demanding decisive action. Communities around the world are already experiencing increased climate impacts, from droughts to floods to rising seas. The World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report continues to rank these environmental threats at the top of the list.

To limit global temperature rise to well below 2°C and as close as possible to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, it is essential that businesses, policy-makers, and civil society advance comprehensive near- and long-term climate actions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The World Economic Forum's Climate Initiative supports the scaling and acceleration of global climate action through public and private-sector collaboration. The Initiative works across several workstreams to develop and implement inclusive and ambitious solutions.

This includes the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, a global network of business leaders from various industries developing cost-effective solutions to transitioning to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. CEOs use their position and influence with policy-makers and corporate partners to accelerate the transition and realize the economic benefits of delivering a safer climate.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2022 rated climate action failure as the most severe risk facing the world over the next decade, a risk it said had been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A chart showing the date of Earth Overshoot Day if the world's population lived like the following countries

What is Earth Overshoot Day?

Another way of measuring how humanity is using Earth’s resources faster than they can be replaced is Earth Overshoot Day , the day in the year on which the world stops living sustainably. The earlier in the year it falls, the more unsustainable life on Earth becomes.

It is calculated annually by the Global Footprint Network (GFN) by dividing the amount of resources Earth can generate in a given year by human demand for resources in that year. In 2021 it was 29 July. The global slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic pushed 2020 Earth Overshoot Day back to 22 August. The date for 2022 has yet to be calculated.

For World Environment Day 2022, the theme #OnlyOneEarth, which was used at the first global environment gathering in 1972, is being revived. Sweden will also host an international conference called Stockholm+50 to accelerate climate action.

Across the world, events are planned from seminars and concerts to beach and countryside clean-ups. Brussels will be staging a city environment festival , while Mumbai will stage the Green Ride Cyclothon to promote a more sustainable way to travel.

World Environment Day

The United Nations designated 5 June as World Environment Day to highlight that the protection and health of the environment is a major issue, which affects the well-being of peoples and economic development throughout the world. The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment.

The year 1972 marked a turning point in the development of international environmental politics, with the first major conference on environmental issues, known as the  Conference on the Human Environment , or the Stockholm Conference. Later that year, on 15 December, the General Assembly adopted a resolution ( A/RES/2994 (XXVII) ) designating June 5 as World Environment Day and urging "Governments and the organizations in the United Nations system to undertake on that day every year world-wide activities reaffirming their concern for the preservation and enhancement of the environment, with a view to deepening environmental awareness."

"As 2021 marks the beginning of United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, led jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and with which UNESCO is closely associated, the formidable reservoir of experience accumulated in our biosphere reserves will now be of service to the world."

UNESCO Director-General

UNESCO's work on environmental issues

UNESCO has an important track record in advancing ecological sciences through pioneering work on ecosystems, biosphere reserves, capacity building, scientific assessments and policy briefs to assist decision-makers in managing natural resources sustainably. UNESCO mobilizes the knowledge, know-how and practices of local communities and indigenous peoples to support their inclusion in environmental decision-making. Its World Network of Biosphere Reserves demonstrate ways to safeguard natural ecosystems and biodiversity through science, education and participatory approaches while promoting innovative economic development that is environmentally sustainable and socially and culturally appropriate.

"UNESCO will be responsible for the "Humans in Nature" panel, which will expand and extend the avenues that have been explored for the past 50 years in our biosphere reserves in order to prevent the degradation of ecosystems worldwide."

Message from Shamila Nair-Bedouelle, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences of UNESCO

With its unique designated sites, UNESCO has been a leader in promoting in-situ solutions to the global challenges of terrestrial, coastal, and marine biodiversity loss.

UNESCO’s strategy for biodiversity is implemented in its designated sites. Over 10 million km², roughly 6% of the earth’s landmass, is already under one or more UNESCO designation, through its 1,121 World Heritage sites (including 252 natural and mixed sites and 114 cultural landscapes), its 714 Biosphere Reserves and its 161 Global Geoparks. UNESCO is also about the soft power to convene diverse interests, unite diverse cultures and emphasize shared human values. UNESCO believes that it is possible to transform mind sets to achieve sufficient momentum to bring change in this critically important  UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration .

Speech On World Environment Day - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

  • Speech On World Environment Day

According to science, everything in our environment is part of us. Our environment is made up of both live organisms and non-living things. The non-living or abiotic components are air, water, soil, and so on, whereas the living or biotic components are things like plants, animals, and bacteria.

  • 10 Lines Speech On World Environment Day

Every year on June 5th, people worldwide celebrate World Environment Day.

Short Speech On World Environment Day (200 Words)

Long speech on world environment day (500 words).

Speech On World Environment Day - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

More than 100 nations worldwide participate in the World Environment Day commemoration.

The United Nations Environmental Program initiated it in 1973 and has continued ever since.

Raising awareness of the environment is the primary goal of this day.

Humans have disrupted the planet's average equilibrium, which is gradually making our environment unfit for living.

We must therefore make our environment more friendly and undo the damage we have caused.

On this day, world leaders assemble to debate how air pollution, global warming, deforestation, and wild forest fires affect the environment.

World Environment Day is a reminder to protect the environment at all costs and make the world a better place.

Additionally, it motivates members of the general public from various cultures and communities to participate actively in the event.

For everyone to enjoy a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future, it promotes everyone to maintain their surroundings safe and tidy.

A day specifically out to recognise and address all environmental problems is known as World Environment Day. Additionally, it is referred to as WED, Eco Day, and Environment Day. It is a remarkable annual event that focuses on environmental problems and works to find lasting solutions.

For years, it has been observed worldwide with various artistic endeavours and a passion for fostering environmental improvements. For as long as there is the prospect of healthy life on earth, it seeks to preserve the natural environment.

The United Nations General Assembly declared it in 1972 during the opening of a conference on the human environment, and it has been celebrated annually on June 5 since then. The day's purpose is to increase public awareness of the importance of a healthy and green environment on earth and raise money for environmental causes. The specific subject of the year (as announced by the UN) that focuses on putting innovative and effective measures to save the environment determines how it is annually observed.

It intends to engage and capture the attention of millions of people and political and health organisations from various nations worldwide to develop and carry out new programmes. To prevent detrimental environmental changes, addressing concerns like food loss and waste, rising global temperatures, deforestation, pollution, industrialization, etc., is imperative.

The environment is the most crucial tool for our prolonged existence on Earth. Our environment supports and sustains us. Life would be impossible without soil, water, and air. Biotic elements like plants and animals serve as essential survival tools as well. Plants clean the air we breathe. Animals and vegetation provide us with food. The ecological web is a network of relationships in which every element of the environment is interdependent. This network must be balanced because if one part disintegrates, the entire system will deteriorate and wipe out all life. Because of this, we must decide to act to protect the environment and repair the harm we caused.

World Environment Day originated during the UN Conference on Human Environment, organised in Sweden, from June 5 to 16, 1972. The conference's focus was on human action and its effects on the environment. As a result of the conference, it was resolved to observe World Environment Day to spread awareness of how human activity affects the environment.

Since 1974, when the first World Environment Day was observed, it has been an annual tradition as an UN-sponsored global campaign for preserving and advancing the environment. The entire environment, including the marine population, oceans, forests, animals, reptiles, water bodies, etc., is celebrated on World Environment Day. Every aspect of the environment that is impacted by human activity is addressed.

The day also highlights issues that impact the environment and the life it supports, such as overpopulation, global warming, etc. By bringing governments and people together, it aims to provide the environmental cause with a global platform and elevate the protection of the environment. Each year, the UN designates a particular topic for the festivities in this regard.

Planetary Emergencies

People and wildlife need to adjust quickly enough to the warming climate.

An estimated one million species are endangered due to habitat degradation and other factors.

Our air, land, and water continue to be contaminated by pollution.

This urgent need for action makes "Only One Earth" and its emphasis on living sustainably in harmony with nature as relevant as ever. Making our economy and society more inclusive, just, and linked to nature is the solution to this problem. We need to switch from damaging to mending the world.

Larger organisations—national and sub-national governments, financial institutions, corporations, international organisations, and other groups with the authority to rewrite the laws, define our goals, and open up new horizons—can only produce many of these options.

Initiatives In Our School

Connecting with nature is the most significant way to observe World Environment Day. When I was in school, my teacher planned an educational trip when she took us to a local park or zoo and assisted us in discovering the wonders of nature. She gave us composting instructions like, every family produces a sizable amount of biowaste, which can be used for composting. For the growth of plants, organic material can be added. We gathered newspapers, tea bags, eggshells, fruit and vegetable peels, and other biowaste to prepare compost. After preparing the compost, we distributed it to the plants.

Plastic Pollution Essay

500+ words essay on plastic pollution.

Plastic has become an integral part of our daily lives. We begin our day using mugs and buckets made of plastic for bathing. Further, as we trace back our activities throughout the day, we use plastic in the form of water bottles, combs, food packaging, milk pouches, straws, disposable cutlery, carry bags, gift wrappers, toys etc. The wide use of plastic has resulted in a large amount of waste generated. Plastic has been so much used that plastic pollution has become one of the environmental problems that the world is facing today. It has impacted the environment, our health and well-being. We have all contributed to this problem, and now it’s our responsibility to work towards it to reduce and ultimately End Plastic Pollution. This essay on plastic pollution will help students to understand the harmful effects of using plastic and how it is affecting our environment. So, students must go through it and then try to write their own essays on this topic. They can also practise CBSE essays on different topics as well.

Plastic Pollution

The accumulation of plastic products in huge amounts in the Earth’s environment is called plastic pollution. It adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans, which has become a major concern. In 2008, our global plastic consumption worldwide was estimated at 260 million tons. Plastic is versatile, lightweight, flexible, moisture-resistant, strong, and relatively inexpensive, because of which it is excessively used by everyone. It has replaced and displaced many other materials, such as wood, paper, stone, leather, metal, glass and ceramic. Plastics have come to clutter almost every landscape. In the modern world, plastics can be found in components ranging from stationery items to spaceships. Therefore, the over-consumption of plastic goods, discarding, littering, use and throwing culture has resulted in plastic waste generation and thus creating plastic pollution.

Every day, thousands of tons of pollutants are discarded into the air by natural events and human actions. Far more damaging are the substances discharged into the atmosphere by human actions. Most plastics are highly resistant to the natural processes of degradation. As a result, it takes a longer period of time to degrade the plastic. It has resulted in the enormous presence of plastic pollution in the environment and, at the same time, adversely affected human health. It is estimated that plastic waste constitutes approximately 10% of the total municipal waste worldwide and that 80% of all plastic found in the world’s oceans originates from land-based sources.

How to Manage Plastic Pollution?

To save the environment from plastic waste, we should minimise and ultimately end the use of plastic. Each one of us has to learn the following 4 R’s:

  • Refuse – Say no to plastic, particularly single-use plastic, as much as possible.
  • Reduce – Limit or reduce the use of plastic in daily life.
  • Reuse – Reuse plastic products as much as possible before disposing of them.
  • Recycle – Plastic products should be recycled into other usable products. This reduces the demand for manufacturing raw plastic required to make various plastic products.

Apart from that, we should educate other people around us. We should create awareness campaigns in public places and help people know about plastic pollution and its harmful effects. We should stop this culture of using and throwing and start reusing things. When everyone takes a pledge to minimise the use of plastic, then we will be able to manage plastic pollution.

Students must have found this Essay on Plastic Pollution helpful for improving their writing section. They can also access more study material related to CBSE/ICSE/State Board/Competitive exams, by visiting the BYJU’S website.

How to reduce plastic usage?

Replacement of plastic items with jute, cotton and other biodegradable items needs to come into practice more.

What are the simple steps to avoid plastic overuse?

The simple 3 R method can be followed: “Reduce, reuse and recycle”.

To understand the concept of Global Warming and its causes and effects, we must first examine the many factors that influence the planet’s temperature and what this implies for the world’s future. Here’s an unbiased look at the essay on Global Warming and other essential related topics.

This Blog Includes:

Short essay on global warming and climate change, what are the causes of global warming, solutions for global warming, effects of global warming, essay on global warming paragraph in 100 – 150 words, essay on global warming in 250 words, essay on global warming in 500 words, essay on global warming upsc, climate change and global warming essay, tips to write an essay.

Since the industrial and scientific revolutions, Earth’s resources have been gradually depleted. Furthermore, the start of the world’s population’s exponential expansion is particularly hard on the environment. Simply put, as the population’s need for consumption grows, so does the use of natural resources , as well as the waste generated by that consumption.

Climate change has been one of the most significant long-term consequences of this. Climate change is more than just the rise or fall of global temperatures; it also affects rain cycles, wind patterns, cyclone frequencies, sea levels, and other factors. It has an impact on all major life groupings on the planet.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels . The greenhouse gases consist of methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon dioxide, water vapour, and chlorofluorocarbons. The weather prediction has been becoming more complex with every passing year, with seasons more indistinguishable, and the general temperatures hotter. The number of hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, floods, etc., has risen steadily since the onset of the 21st century. The supervillain behind all these changes is Global Warming. The name is quite self-explanatory; it means the rise in the temperature of the Earth.

According to recent studies, many scientists believe the following are the primary four causes of global warming:

  • Deforestation
  • Greenhouse emissions
  • Carbon emissions per capita

Extreme global warming is causing natural disasters , which can be seen all around us. One of the causes of global warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases that become trapped on the earth’s surface, causing the temperature to rise. Similarly, volcanoes contribute to global warming by spewing excessive CO2 into the atmosphere.

The increase in population is one of the major causes of Global Warming. This increase in population also leads to increased air pollution . Automobiles emit a lot of CO2, which remains in the atmosphere. This increase in population is also causing deforestation, which contributes to global warming.

The earth’s surface emits energy into the atmosphere in the form of heat, keeping the balance with the incoming energy. Global warming depletes the ozone layer, bringing about the end of the world. There is a clear indication that increased global warming will result in the extinction of all life on Earth’s surface.

Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates emit more carbon than the average citizen. Nonetheless, activism and community effort are the only viable ways to slow the worsening effects of global warming. Furthermore, at the state or government level, world leaders must develop concrete plans and step-by-step programmes to ensure that no further harm is done to the environment in general.

Although we are almost too late to slow the rate of global warming, finding the right solution is critical. Everyone, from individuals to governments, must work together to find a solution to Global Warming. Some of the factors to consider are pollution control, population growth, and the use of natural resources.

One very important contribution you can make is to reduce your use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of global warming, and recycling it takes years. Another factor to consider is deforestation, which will aid in the control of global warming. More tree planting should be encouraged to green the environment. Certain rules should also govern industrialization. Building industries in green zones that affect plants and species should be prohibited.

Global warming is a real problem that many people want to disprove to gain political advantage. However, as global citizens, we must ensure that only the truth is presented in the media.

This decade has seen a significant impact from global warming. The two most common phenomena observed are glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage. Glaciers are rapidly melting. These are clear manifestations of climate change.

Another significant effect of global warming is the rise in sea level. Flooding is occurring in low-lying areas as a result of sea-level rise. Many countries have experienced extreme weather conditions. Every year, we have unusually heavy rain, extreme heat and cold, wildfires, and other natural disasters.

Similarly, as global warming continues, marine life is being severely impacted. This is causing the extinction of marine species as well as other problems. Furthermore, changes are expected in coral reefs, which will face extinction in the coming years. These effects will intensify in the coming years, effectively halting species expansion. Furthermore, humans will eventually feel the negative effects of Global Warming.

Sample Essays on Global Warming

Here are some sample essays on Global Warming:

Global Warming is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide levels in the earth’s atmosphere and is a result of human activities that have been causing harm to our environment for the past few centuries now. Global Warming is something that can’t be ignored and steps have to be taken to tackle the situation globally. The average temperature is constantly rising by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the last few years. The best method to prevent future damage to the earth, cutting down more forests should be banned and Afforestation should be encouraged. Start by planting trees near your homes and offices, participate in events, and teach the importance of planting trees. It is impossible to undo the damage but it is possible to stop further harm.

Over a long period, it is observed that the temperature of the earth is increasing. This affected wildlife , animals, humans, and every living organism on earth. Glaciers have been melting, and many countries have started water shortages, flooding, and erosion and all this is because of global warming. No one can be blamed for global warming except for humans. Human activities such as gases released from power plants, transportation, and deforestation have increased gases such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere. The main question is how can we control the current situation and build a better world for future generations. It starts with little steps by every individual. Start using cloth bags made from sustainable materials for all shopping purposes, instead of using high-watt lights use energy-efficient bulbs, switch off the electricity, don’t waste water, abolish deforestation and encourage planting more trees. Shift the use of energy from petroleum or other fossil fuels to wind and solar energy. Instead of throwing out the old clothes donate them to someone so that it is recycled. Donate old books, don’t waste paper.  Above all, spread awareness about global warming. Every little thing a person does towards saving the earth will contribute in big or small amounts. We must learn that 1% effort is better than no effort. Pledge to take care of Mother Nature and speak up about global warming.

Global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening! A person denying it or unaware of it is in the most simple terms complicit. Do we have another planet to live on? Unfortunately, we have been bestowed with this one planet only that can sustain life yet over the years we have turned a blind eye to the plight it is in. Global warming is not an abstract concept but a global phenomenon occurring ever so slowly even at this moment. Global Warming is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute resulting in a gradual increase in the Earth’s overall climate. Brought about by greenhouse gases that trap the solar radiation in the atmosphere, global warming can change the entire map of the earth, displacing areas, flooding many countries, and destroying multiple lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct consequence of global warming but it is not an exhaustive consequence. There are virtually limitless effects of global warming which are all harmful to life on earth. The sea level is increasing by 0.12 inches per year worldwide. This is happening because of the melting of polar ice caps because of global warming. This has increased the frequency of floods in many lowland areas and has caused damage to coral reefs. The Arctic is one of the worst-hit areas affected by global warming. Air quality has been adversely affected and the acidity of the seawater has also increased causing severe damage to marine life forms. Severe natural disasters are brought about by global warming which has had dire effects on life and property. As long as mankind produces greenhouse gases, global warming will continue to accelerate. The consequences are felt at a much smaller scale which will increase to become drastic shortly. The power to save the day lies in the hands of humans, the need is to seize the day. Energy consumption should be reduced on an individual basis. Fuel-efficient cars and other electronics should be encouraged to reduce the wastage of energy sources. This will also improve air quality and reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is an evil that can only be defeated when fought together. It is better late than never. If we all take steps today, we will have a much brighter future tomorrow. Global warming is the bane of our existence and various policies have come up worldwide to fight it but that is not enough. The actual difference is made when we work at an individual level to fight it. Understanding its import now is crucial before it becomes an irrevocable mistake. Exterminating global warming is of utmost importance and each one of us is as responsible for it as the next.

Always hear about global warming everywhere, but do we know what it is? The evil of the worst form, global warming is a phenomenon that can affect life more fatally. Global warming refers to the increase in the earth’s temperature as a result of various human activities. The planet is gradually getting hotter and threatening the existence of lifeforms on it. Despite being relentlessly studied and researched, global warming for the majority of the population remains an abstract concept of science. It is this concept that over the years has culminated in making global warming a stark reality and not a concept covered in books. Global warming is not caused by one sole reason that can be curbed. There are multifarious factors that cause global warming most of which are a part of an individual’s daily existence. Burning of fuels for cooking, in vehicles, and for other conventional uses, a large amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, and methane amongst many others is produced which accelerates global warming. Rampant deforestation also results in global warming as lesser green cover results in an increased presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas.  Finding a solution to global warming is of immediate importance. Global warming is a phenomenon that has to be fought unitedly. Planting more trees can be the first step that can be taken toward warding off the severe consequences of global warming. Increasing the green cover will result in regulating the carbon cycle. There should be a shift from using nonrenewable energy to renewable energy such as wind or solar energy which causes less pollution and thereby hinder the acceleration of global warming. Reducing energy needs at an individual level and not wasting energy in any form is the most important step to be taken against global warming. The warning bells are tolling to awaken us from the deep slumber of complacency we have slipped into. Humans can fight against nature and it is high time we acknowledged that. With all our scientific progress and technological inventions, fighting off the negative effects of global warming is implausible. We have to remember that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our future generations and the responsibility lies on our shoulders to bequeath them a healthy planet for life to exist.

One good action in a day is to combat the heat.

Global Warming and Climate Change are two sides of the same coin. Both are interrelated with each other and are two issues of major concern worldwide. Greenhouse gases released such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere cause Global Warming which leads to climate change. Black holes have started to form in the ozone layer that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays. Human activities have created climate change and global warming. Industrial waste and fumes are the major contributors to global warming. Another factor affecting is the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and also one of the reasons for climate change.  Global warming has resulted in shrinking mountain glaciers in Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic and causing climate change. Switching from the use of fossil fuels to energy sources like wind and solar. When buying any electronic appliance buy the best quality with energy savings stars. Don’t waste water and encourage rainwater harvesting in your community.

Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On World Environment Day For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on world environment day for kids, a paragraph on world environment day, short essay on world environment day in english for children, long essay on world environment day for kids, what will your child learn from the essay on world environment day.

The increased levels of competition in the education system these days start as early as the lower primary classes. This has increased the necessity to have good writing and language skills for kids. A good way to begin this is by practising commonly asked essay topics. Here is how you can approach an essay on environment day for classes 1, 2 and 3.

The environment is everything that surrounds us. It includes natural, living, manufactured, and non-living things. It is imperative to keep our surroundings clean to maintain a healthy and livable environment. Due to industrialisation, deforestation, construction, and increased vehicles on the road, an imbalance in the environment has occurred, and it has become important to reduce environmental pollution to restore the ecosystem.

Writing an essay can be a complicated task, especially for young children. Hence it lies in the hands of parents and teachers to guide them appropriately to create a strong foundation of writing and vocabulary. Here are certain guidelines on how to write an essay on World Environment Day.

  • Always start your essay with a short introduction or an introductory paragraph, irrespective of the length.
  • Maintain good readability and avoid words and sentences that are too complex.
  • Keep your points straight.
  • In case of longer articles, make sure to maintain good continuity between your paragraphs.
  • Use appropriate subheadings and paragraph breaks whenever needed.

The format of simple sentence lists is the most preferred for lower primary classes. One can write such articles quite easily. Here is how you can write an essay for classes 1 and 2 on World Environment Day.

  • World Environment Day celebrations take place worldwide.
  • Over 140 countries are known to participate in this event actively.
  • The objective of this day is to promote and celebrate the conservation of our environment.
  • It is observed every year on the 5th of June.
  • The United Nations declared the 5th of June to be celebrated as World Environment Day in 1972.
  • Many organisations like schools, colleges, and government and non-government units organise activities like planting saplings on this day.
  • Many groups also perform activities to promote awareness of the importance of caring for the environment.
  • In many schools, this event is celebrated in a grand manner.
  • Many students actively participate in fun activities like cultural and fine arts competitions.
  • This day is vital to improving the state of our environment.

Apart from lists and 10-line articles, your child might also be asked to write short and crisp paragraphs as an assignment for lower primary classes. In such cases, you will have to maintain simplicity with good flow in your sentences. Here is an example:

The environment is one of the most precious resources given to us by mother nature. With the increasing population, this valuable present is being subjected to severe harm caused by the human race. Multiple steps have been taken up by the concerned organisations to combat the same. One such endeavour which was taken up by the United Nations is World Environment Day. The 5th of June was officially declared to be observed as World Environment Day, and it was celebrated for the first time in the year 1974. The ultimate goal is to create awareness of the importance of conservation and protection of our environment.

As the classes progress, you will have to upgrade the complexity of the essays. When writing in long paragraphs and sections, you will have to include more facts as well. Here is a sample essay for the same.

The environment is a precious gift bestowed upon us by mother nature. This gift is being abused to a great degree, especially in recent days. It is important to understand the value of the environment and protect it. To bring about a sense of care and protection towards the environment, many renowned organisations worldwide have started taking up active measures to promote the general awareness of the public towards environmental conservation. One such initiative is the declaration of World Environment Day. The United Nations announced that this day would be celebrated on the 5th of June every year, starting from 1972. Promoting a sense of protection and care for the environment among people is its main purpose. Many institutions like schools, colleges, NGOs, and government organisations take up measures to contribute to the conservation of the environment, like planting saplings and more. It is the responsibility of every individual to participate in such activities regularly and actively.

As the classes progress further, the students are required to write more elaborate and detailed articles with multiple headings within, including several paragraphs. In this case, additional attention has to be given to the proper framing of subheadings and division of paragraphs. It is also important to maintain a good continuity between your sentences. Here is how you can write a good essay for class 3.

The environment has to be cherished and protected by every inhabitant on the planet earth. But, this has not been the case, especially in recent years, resulting in significant damage to the overall state of the environment. For the same reason, many renowned establishments and organisations around the world have started taking up measures to combat this. One such activity is World Environment Day, which is celebrated all over the globe on the 5th of June every year.

The word environment means surroundings or the condition in which the person, animal, or plant lives or functions. The environment is of utmost importance in the overall living standards and the survival of various life on this planet. In the absence of a good and healthy environment, life will not be as easy and convenient. Hence, it is important as an individual to take it upon oneself to act responsibly and take care of the environment.

Protecting the precious environment can only be achieved through the individual effort put in by every person on the planet. Therefore, it is important to create such awareness of the conservational activities on this day.

What Is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day is a special day that has been allotted specifically by the United Nations to be directed towards creating awareness towards protecting and nurturing the environment. This can be achieved in several different forms and methods.

It is also good to know the history and importance of World Environment Day, which is very interesting.

The United Nations declared that the 5th of June would be celebrated as World Environment Day in 1972. Accordingly, it has been celebrated on the same day globally in about 142 countries. The main goal of this day is to create awareness of why it is important to protect and conserve the environment.

Why Is World Environment Day Celebrated?

Few firms and institutions take up promotional activities and contests which tend to create awareness among the general public regarding the importance of conserving the environment.

At this point, with several global hazards like global warming and more, measures to protect the environment have never been more important. On World Environment Day, several individuals and teams gather to participate in various activities to work together with the sole aim of benefitting the environment as a whole.

How Can This Day Be Celebrated?

As a way of instilling qualities of care and respect towards the environment from a young age, many schools make their students actively conduct and participate in a wide range of interesting and entertaining activities like essay writing on World Environment Day, speech competitions, and more. Many institutions and business firms perform activities like planting saplings and trees to directly take part in contributing to the wellness of the environment.

By writing about the World Environment Day and the importance of the environment, your children will be able to understand the importance of acting reasonably and conservatively towards the environment.
