50th wedding anniversary speeches

Make the 50th wedding anniversary toast you give part of their golden love story.

By:  Susan Dugdale  | Last modified: 04-29-2021

50th wedding anniversary speeches!

Here's the recipe to help you tell a perfect golden wedding anniversary love story; to make a 50th wedding anniversary toast.

Whether you're the husband, wife, a dear friend, or child of the couple celebrating, you'll want the speech you give to touch the hearts and minds of all who hear it.

The goal is to distill the essence of 50 years of marriage into 4 to 5 minutes; to make your audience laugh, cry a little and reflect. If that seems a little daunting, I understand. ☺

What you'll find on this page

  • what to put into a 50th anniversary speech: the type of expected content
  • how to generate ideas by brainstorming, with an example
  • how to select the best material from your ideas
  • how to organize and structure your ideas effectively
  • links to further resources including an example speech

What to put into a 50th anniversary speech?

Here's a logical step-by-step process that will take you through everything you need to do to achieve the impact you want. So please, take the time you need and follow it.

  • a smattering of anecdotes These are those funny little stories that have become legend through the years. The ones telling about how this couple met and their courtship. Who proposed to who, when and how?
  • a few family stories Tell of family incidents, about hobbies or passions, times of trials and how they were overcome, enduring and endearing habits, jobs, community and mutual friends.
  • mixed with lots of love Give thanks, gratitude, respect, admiration and acknowledgement of time and support given, services rendered, sacrifices made, and experiences shared.
  • and a sprinkle of quotations Recall a habitual saying, a line from a song or poem that has personal significance, a verse, or a meaningful quotation . (The link will take you to a large eclectic, cross-cultural collection of wedding poems, quotations and readings many of which are suitable for 50th wedding anniversary toasts.)

Preparing your 50th toast

First gather your ingredients.

The easiest way to do this is to 'brainstorm' as shown in the image below.

Image: Example of brainstorm notes for a 50th anniversary speech

Allow yourself at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted, quiet time.

In your mind, as vividly as you can, see the couple you want to write about.

Then on a blank piece of paper and without any thought of order, (beginning, middle or end of your speech), start jotting down ideas as they come to you.

(You could open a new document  and do this on your computer too. I just happen to find it easier to access ideas with a pen in my hand.)

Make movies in your mind

Think in pictures and make them big, multi-colored ones. Now add sound, smell, feelings or taste to bring those memories back to life. It's like making movies in your mind!

As each image/thought occurs note down a single word or a phrase - just enough to serve as a peg to hold onto the idea securely. You'll return to it later to flesh it out in detail, if you decide it's wanted.

Do not dwell too long on any one idea. Work quickly and keep going until you run out of ideas, time or paper!

Image: simple drawing of wedding couple. Text quote: Our wedding was many years. The celebration continues to this day.-Gene Perret

Review and revise

N ow go back through your notes and review them.

Get rid of the weak and only keep the best or strongest ideas; making sure everything you've kept fits with the tone you want to achieve, and is relevant to your audience.

Ask yourself:

  • Have you covered all the areas you wanted?
  • Is there too much of any one topic?
  • Or not enough of another?

Tweak until you've got the balance how you want it.

Your brainstorm notes may end up covered with circles,  arrows, and scribbled out bits. You may even want to do another before you consider yourself ready to move on.

Organizing your golden wedding anniversary speech

speech on anniversary of marriage

With your notes ready to go you're set for the next step; organizing the speech. This is where you will order the flow of your material.

You'll decide what comes first.  What comes next?  And what's the link between these ideas?

Can you see a theme uniting all your material?

Get a blank speech outline template to complete

If you're relatively new to preparing speeches you may find it helpful to read through my page on how to outline a speech. This will give you a better understanding of how to structure what you want to say.

You'll also find a blank speech outline template to download. That will guide you through structuring the opening, body and conclusion of your speech - ensuring you get your notes in the best and most effective order possible.

You may not need, or use, all the steps I've put into the outline. However what is absolutely certain is that you'll need the basic three-part format: an introduction, a body and a conclusion.

How do these guidelines work?

Rehearsing your speech

Image: cross-legged girl, with wings, levitating. Text: How to rehearse a speech properly and do more than 'wing it'.

Writing the outline of the speech is only part of the process. Rehearsing it is essential if you want it to be memorable, for the right reasons.

Once you practice it out loud you'll find out whether it's too long, too short, the content doesn't flow as well as it could or there may even be parts needing a complete overhaul.

If possible give your speech to a couple of close family members or friends and ask them for feedback to help you fine tune.

Practice too if you can in the venue. This will give you an idea of the volume you need in order to be heard and where to stand to be seen by  everybody.

The more practice you do, the better it will be! Please don't be tempted to 'wing it'.

Anniversary Speech Structure

Just like every great story your speech needs a

  • middle
  • and an end.

Anniversary Speech Introduction

Your beginning or introduction will need to grab your guests attention.

This could in the way of a question ...

What is love?

What makes a Happy Marriage?

Where have the last … years gone?

quotes for anniversary speeches

Or it could be in the way of a quote

They say “Time flies when you are having fun” and that could not be truer for the past … years that I have spent as … husband (or wife)

“If I know what love is, it is because of you” Herman Hesse

You could paraphrase that quote to be more personal and start with If I know what love is, it is because of ….., I have loved him with all my heart since the day I met him at…

Or you could tell a joke, just be mindful of your audience!

Or start by telling everyone how you met.

Anniversary Speech Samples

Your middle is the main part of your speech

And it needs to lead on from your introduction.

If you started with a question, look at answering it.

What is love? According to Websters dictionary Love is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person  and I know that I have been lucky to love …. for … years.

Then go on to explain why you love them – their kindness, silliness or whatever it is. Share a story about when you knew you loved them or a time when they were amazing.

What makes a Happy Marriage? If you ever need an answer to that question just take a look at Mom and Dad. The little looks they give each other, the way they support each other through everything that life throws at them and how much they enjoy each other’s company. And then go on to share a story about them both.

You can end with a quote…

And to quote Robert Browning “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be”

“Real love stories never have endings” and I look forward to being in love with you for eternity.

Or end with a thank you…

I would like to end with a thank you to Mom and Dad for being such a great example and for the love and help they have given all of us.

Don’t forget to end with a toast!

I would like to thank … for putting up with me and my snoring for the past … years. You are my love, my rock and I am your number 1 fan.

Perfect Your Anniversary Speech

To give the best anniversary speech you will need to

  • Practise – lots!
  • Perfect until you have nailed it.

Timing with all speeches is so important and one way to make sure you have yours spot on is to either record yourself, time yourself and video yourself. The camera on your mobile will be fine for this.

You can then play it back and either add extra bits to your speech or take things out.

Also, see if you can say your speech to a few people so you can check if your jokes work and also get feedback from them.

Anniversary speech for your wife or girlfriend.

Thank you to all of you for being with us today to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, it means so much to both of us that you have been part of our lives and we love each and every one of you.

And for me, I need to say an even bigger thank you, to one very important lady… my wife….

For the past 25 years you have been my rock, my inspiration, you have lifted me through the bad times and cheered me on to great ones.

You are my one true love

And I am very lucky.

I won the lottery the day I met you and knew from the moment I saw you at … that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.

But how do you get a great woman like ….. to take notice of a kind of geeky/scruffy/sporty guy.

I would love to say it was through my charm, my looks and great wit.

But the truth is it was more my friend ….

*Tell story of how you met

Thank you …. For introducing us and vouching for me! We all need friends like that in our lives.

-           Toast to friend who introduced you

From then till now we have been blessed with 5 great children, 6 hamsters and have lived surrounded by family and friends.

Through that time my love for …….. has grown.

I am in awe of her ability to make a home where ever we live.

Her incredible tapestry, painting, writing or swing at golf. (Choose your wife’s hobby)

And her love of …….

She is an incredible woman and I would like to raise a toast to ……. Thank you.

Anniversary Speech For Your Husband or Boyfriend

A massive thank you to everyone for coming tonight to celebrate our 40th Anniversary, thank you for being part of our lives, you make ours richer by being you and we hope in some way we add to yours.

But wow, 40 years that’s quite a time and it has gone in a flash.

And all of this would not have been possible if 40 years ago I hadn’t married …… and if he hadn’t been such an easy man to love.

Although neither of us are perfect, we have our own strange little ways which I won’t be sharing with you tonight!

He is without doubt my perfect husband.

He is perfect for me, which reminds me of a quote I heard years ago…

A Perfect Marriage Is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on Each Other

Thank you ….. for being you

For laughing with me and at me. From the time when …. (add a fun story of the two of you)

For being a great dad to …. And ……

(add a sweet story showing him as a great dad)

And for being a perfect husband for me.

Looking forward to our next adventures.

I would like to raise a toast to ….. Happy Anniversary my love.

Anniversary Speech For Parents and Grandparents

Good evening everyone, I am ……. and honored to be with you all this evening and proud to be the son/daughter of …….. and ……….

This evening we celebrate their Golden Anniversary, 50 years of being Mr and Mrs

And wow what an amazing 50 years it has been.

They met … (tell the story – maybe quote their friends who were there at the time)

And luckily for me they fell in love and were married on …..

They have supported each other through …. (tell story of them helping each other)

And have enjoyed (share stories of hobbies, vacations and fun times they have both enjoyed)

I am lucky to have such great parents, they have shown me over the years what love is and have been selfless in their love for me and my brothers and sisters.

List why they are a great couple

They are a great example of what a strong and Happy Marriage is.

Thank you and raise a toast to your parents.

Anniversary Speech For Friends

Good evening everyone, I am …………. I have known ……….. and …………… for . years and feel that gives me an insight in to how they have such a Happy marriage.

For those of you that don’t know …….. and …………. met on (date) at (place) where ……… was looking as beautiful as she does this evening and …….. was looking his usual charming self.

Quote from husband about when they first met

Quote from wife about when they first met

As you can see they were both thinking the same thing from that first moment. (this can be said more as a joke if the quotes don’t say the same thing)

They are the perfect match.

 They both love ……

And enjoy spending time together and with their family.

Their children are here this evening and I know that they couldn’t be prouder of the people you have grown in to.

And I am proud to have them as friends.

They have shown me over the years what a great marriage is and tonight I would like us all to raise a toast to …. And wish them a very Happy Anniversary.

Short Anniversary Speech Ideas

If you would prefer to give a short Anniversary speech then that is perfectly fine, it really doesn't have to be a long-winding journey through all the years of marriage.

Instead a short and punchy speech that covers all the essentials works really well. Plus your guests may appreciate it too!

As with all speeches lets stick with the plan

  • A beginning - this is the why we are here today
  • A middle - a description of the best couple in all the world
  • The end - let's all raise our glasses and join together to wish Jo and Sam a very Happy Anniversary.

Let's start by getting everyone's attention, you could clap, ding your glass, ring a bell or set off a horn.

Next explain that you want to say a few words.

Hi everyone, you will be pleased to know that I won't take up much of your time today *pause for your guests to cheer* but I wanted to thank you all for joining us today to celebrate Jo and Sam's 20th Anniversary and to say a few words.

The past twenty years has flown by and through that time they have shown us how great they are together.

Being the most wonderful parents to .....

And the best friends to each other and to us all.

I am sure you will all agree that they are one of the loveliest couple's and the love that they have together is great to see.

So please join me in raising a glass and wishing Jo and Sam the happiest Anniversary.

Jo and Sam, followed by everyone joining in the toast.

The Ultimate Guide to Nailing Your Wedding and Anniversary Speeches

speech on anniversary of marriage

Feeling the pressure to give a memorable speech at a wedding or anniversary celebration? You’re not alone – hundreds of people find themselves in this scenario every year, tasked with articulating love stories and shared memories eloquently.

This blog post brings together essential advice on how to craft a heartfelt, funny, yet concise talk that is sure to leave an impression. Ready to wow your audience? Read on.

Key Takeaways

  • Crafting a heartfelt and memorable wedding or anniversary speech involves acknowledging the couple’s love story, incorporating personal anecdotes, balancing sentimentality and brevity, practicing beforehand, and ending on a high note.
  • Using humor effectively in wedding or anniversary speeches can bring lightheartedness and laughter to the occasion, creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
  • When giving a wedding or anniversary speech in front of a large audience, it is crucial to maintain proper etiquette by being well-prepared, engaging the audience with eye contact and appropriate body language, tailoring the speech to fit the occasion, avoiding common mistakes such as referencing inside jokes or preaching during the speech delivery, thanking and acknowledging important individuals.

Crafting a Heartfelt and Memorable Wedding or Anniversary Speech

Craft a heartfelt and memorable wedding or anniversary speech by acknowledging the couple’s love story, including personal anecdotes, balancing sentimentality and brevity, practicing the speech beforehand, and ending on a high note.

Acknowledging the couple’s love story

Paying tribute to the couple’s love story forms the heart of any memorable wedding or anniversary speech. It offers an intimate look at their journey, carefully woven together in a narrative that resonates with every guest.

It’s essential to take cues from such heartfelt tributes while crafting personalized wedding vows or speeches for your loved ones’ grand occasions. Incorporate elements like emotional arcs and meaningful milestones; remember to highlight achievements, showcase good qualities, illustrating how these shaped the relationship over time.

This form of storytelling can turn any basic toast into one of those unforgettable emotional wedding speeches that leave everyone in awe!

Including personal anecdotes

Crafting heartfelt wedding speeches often involve incorporating personal anecdotes. These stories add a warm touch and offer an intimate look into the couple’s love story, making your speech genuinely unique and memorable.

For maximum impact, choose anecdotes that reveal something about the bride or groom’s character or illustrate their bond. Such narratives not only engage the audience but also help to paint a vivid picture of the couple’s journey together, cementing their connection with the guests.

However, it’s crucial to remember that simplicity is key in wedding speeches; ensure your anecdote is brief yet impactful.

Personal anecdotes can be particularly powerful when utilized in maid of honor speeches as they offer a behind-the-scenes view into the bride’s life and her relationship dynamics. They infuse authenticity into your words while adding humor or sentimentality as needed.

As you craft your speech, consider how you want your audience to feel – maybe moved by a touching memory or chuckling at a shared funny moment between you and the couple? Focus on this emotional response during practice sessions for a successful delivery on their special day ensuring everyone leaves with sincere and happy memories.

Balancing sentimentality and brevity

Achieving the perfect equilibrium between sentimentality and brevity in a wedding or anniversary speech may seem like quite the challenge. Yet, with thoughtful planning and diligent practice you can craft an address that is both emotionally resonant and pleasantly concise.

Let’s start by focusing on the heartfelt aspect; your speech should thread the needle of emotion, highlighting key moments in the couple’s love story without dragging down the celebratory mood of the occasion.

Personal anecdotes serve this purpose well as they add a touch of nostalgia while also keeping things relatable to all attendees. But here’s where conciseness comes into play — keep stories short and sweet! Remembering to confine yourself to poignant yet succinct narratives will make your words not only memorable but also enjoyable for listeners.

Etiquette expert Liz Bryant suggests having 13 essential rules for giving a memorable wedding toast which includes avoiding lengthy monologues, staying relevant, being timely amongst others making it more engaging than tiring speeches saving guests from what could potentially transform into an endurance test instead of endearing token of your affection towards them.

Practicing the speech before the big day

Crafting a heartfelt and memorable wedding or anniversary speech is no easy task, which is why practicing the speech before the big day is crucial. By rehearsing your speech beforehand, you can ensure that you deliver it with confidence and clarity.

Take the time to familiarize yourself with the content, focusing on capturing the essence of the couple’s love story and incorporating personalized anecdotes that will resonate with both them and the audience.

Balancing sentimentality and brevity is essential, so practice trimming unnecessary details while still conveying your emotional tribute effectively. By putting in the effort to practice ahead of time, you’ll be able to deliver a flawless speech that leaves a lasting impression on everyone present at this special celebration.

Ending on a high note

Crafting a memorable and impactful wedding or anniversary speech involves ending on a high note. It’s the moment where you leave the audience with a lasting impression and an emotional experience they won’t forget.

By carefully selecting your closing words, you can create a powerful finale that evokes heartfelt emotions and resonates with everyone in the room. Adding inspiring quotes to your speech is a great way to achieve this.

With  over 140 wedding quotes  available, you can find the perfect words to bring depth and meaning to your speech. These quotes are designed to stir emotions, evoke memories, and leave a lasting impact on both the couple and their loved ones.

Using Humor Effectively in Wedding or Anniversary Speeches

Using humor in wedding or anniversary speeches can bring lightheartedness and laughter to the occasion, creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

The role of humor

Humor plays a vital role in delivering an engaging and memorable wedding or anniversary speech. Incorporating comedy into your speech adds emotional variety to the event, providing a lighthearted counterpoint to more serious moments.

It helps create a bond between you as the speaker and the audience, allowing them to connect with you on a deeper level. By using humor effectively, you can not only entertain but also inspire your listeners.

Whether it’s sharing funny stories or incorporating clever jokes and quotes, adding humor to your speech can make it more enjoyable for everyone involved. So don’t be afraid to infuse your special occasion speeches with laughter and wit – it will truly leave a lasting impression on your audience.

Dos and don’ts of using humor

Using humor can be a powerful tool in wedding or anniversary speeches, but it’s important to understand the dos and don’ts of incorporating it effectively. Dos include using humorous anecdotes and witty remarks to engage the audience, maintaining a lighthearted tone throughout the speech, and delivering jokes with good timing and pacing.

It’s also crucial to ensure that the humor is appropriate for the occasion and doesn’t offend any guests. On the other hand, some don’ts to keep in mind are avoiding offensive or controversial jokes, not relying too heavily on inside jokes that only a few people will understand, and not making fun of anyone in a mean-spirited way.

By following these guidelines, you can captivate your listeners with captivating storytelling and leave them with fond memories of your speech.

Wedding and Anniversary Speech Etiquette

When giving a wedding or anniversary speech in front of a large audience, it is crucial to maintain proper etiquette and avoid common mistakes.

Giving the speech in front of a large audience

When delivering a wedding or anniversary speech in front of a large audience, it’s important to keep a few key things in mind to ensure that your words have the desired impact. First and foremost, make sure you are well-prepared and know your speech inside out.

Practice beforehand and familiarize yourself with the flow and structure of your speech. This will help boost your confidence when speaking in front of a crowd.

Additionally, engage the audience by maintaining eye contact and using appropriate body language. A confident posture and gestures can go a long way in capturing their attention. Remember that public speaking is all about connecting with your listeners, so try to speak clearly and audibly while conveying genuine emotion.

One helpful tip is to tailor your speech to fit the occasion – whether it’s lighthearted or more formal. Injecting humor at appropriate moments can also help break the ice and establish rapport with the audience.

However, be mindful not to overdo it as too much humor may detract from the sentimental aspects of wedding or anniversary speeches.

Avoiding common mistakes

To give an exceptional wedding or anniversary speech, it’s crucial to avoid some common mistakes. For starters, steer clear of referencing inside jokes that only a few people in the audience will understand.

Instead, focus on stories and anecdotes that resonate with everyone and highlight the couple’s love story. Another mistake to avoid is trying to impart wisdom or preach during your speech. Keep it light-hearted and heartfelt instead.

Furthermore, be mindful of the length of your speech. Going too long can lose the interest of your audience and make them restless. Remember, brevity is key when delivering a memorable speech.

Additionally, knowing your audience is essential for success. Consider who will be present at the wedding or anniversary celebration and adjust your content accordingly. Avoid telling stories that predate the bride and groom as they might not be familiar with them.

Lastly, adequate preparation is vital for avoiding blunders during your speech delivery. Don’t wing it! Practice beforehand to ensure you’re comfortable speaking in front of a large crowd.

Thanking and acknowledging important individuals

In wedding and anniversary speeches, expressing gratitude and recognition towards important individuals is crucial. Whether it’s the parents, members of the wedding party, or the guests themselves, acknowledging their role in the couple’s journey is a meaningful gesture.

A heartfelt thank-you toast can convey deep appreciation and touch people’s hearts. By mentioning specific contributions or sharing personal anecdotes, you can make your speech more personalized and engaging.

Understanding the  etiquette of wedding speech order  and avoiding common mistakes will ensure that your gratitude shines through while adhering to tradition. Don’t forget to express thanks for everyone who made the day possible – it will leave a lasting impression on all those involved.

In conclusion, crafting a heartfelt and memorable wedding or anniversary speech requires careful thought, personal anecdotes, and a balance of sentimentality and brevity. By practicing your speech beforehand and ending on a high note, you can captivate your audience and create lasting memories for the couple.

Remember to use humor effectively and adhere to proper speech etiquette while expressing gratitude towards important individuals. With these tips in mind, you’ll deliver an unforgettable speech that celebrates love, commitment, and cherished moments.

1. How long should a wedding or anniversary speech be?

The length of a wedding or anniversary speech can vary depending on the structure and format of the event, as well as personal preferences. However, it is generally recommended to keep speeches between 5 to 10 minutes to maintain engagement and avoid becoming too lengthy.

2. What are some tips for delivering a memorable wedding or anniversary speech?

To deliver a memorable speech, it is important to personalize your message, include heartfelt anecdotes or stories about the couple, practice beforehand to ensure smooth delivery, maintain good eye contact with the audience, and speak with genuine emotion and enthusiasm.

3. Should I use humor in my wedding or anniversary speech?

Using humor in your speech can add an entertaining element and help engage the audience. However, it’s vital to find a balance between lighthearted jokes that everyone can appreciate and avoiding potentially offensive material that could embarrass the couple or other attendees.

4. Can I include advice or words of wisdom in my wedding or anniversary speech?

Absolutely! Including advice or words of wisdom in your speech is often appreciated by couples and guests alike. This speech is ideal for a guest who wishes to toast an anniversary couple at their anniversary party.

Has it ever occurred to you that celebrating a wedding anniversary is like flicking through a photo album? It is a day for remembering old friends and shared occasions. Tonight one of the photos in that album of memories is a wedding photo. Tonight we are celebrating that wedding of Mary and John and their years together since that special day.

So we are celebrating commitment, love and loyalty. We are celebrating the marriage of a couple who believed in being true to their wedding vows. We are celebrating how two totally different people became a unit while still retaining their individuality. We are definitely celebrating the attraction of opposites.

Mary and John, you see, are two separate people with different ideas. They share the same values, of course, but they each have their own outlook and characteristics. Mary, like many wives, wonders why John cannot simply ask somebody for directions when he is lost instead of driving around in circles. John, like most husbands cannot understand why his wife takes such a long time to buy a dress. So over the years they have learnt to be tolerant of each other. Mary has got used to taking the scenic route and John brings a good book with him when Mary goes shopping. Alternatively he bribes a female friend to go with her.

Marriage, you see, is about tolerance. It’s about a shared sense of humour. In a hard world it needs to have a network of family and friends to support it. Today, I know Mary and John are delighted too that you are here with them to share this special occasion. We, on the other hand, are delighted to be here to wish them well on their anniversary.

Their marriage has had its trials and tribulations of course. It has also had its golden moments. (If applicable)There have been births and birthdays. There have been triumphs and disasters but over all the years John and Mary clung together and survived it all. I have no doubt but that they have cried and wiped each others’ tears. I know for a fact that they have laughed long and often and that, I think, is the secret of their happy marriage.

Mary and John are very special people. They always have time for others. They are generous to a fault and they have an open door policy when it comes to family and friends. In fact they are wonderful parents, marvellous family members and the best friends anyone could have.

So tonight we are gathered to thank them for what they have meant to us over the years. Tonight we want to wish them many more years of happiness together. In fact ladies and gentlemen (or family and friends) I think you will all agree that a toast is in order. So please raise your glasses in a toast to a couple whose marriage was definitely the prototype for marriages made in Heaven. Mary and John!

We’ve gathered today to tell you Just how much you mean to us That’s why we’ve sent you those greetings And that’s why we are making a fuss It’s great to see two people As happy as you two are In a sad world we’re lucky that Your marriage is our guiding star. So now I say to you well done You’ve shown wedlock can be fun Demonstrated what a marriage should be And I know the guests agree with me That as a couple you deserve more than most Our best wishes and a happy anniversary toast.

While these events are supposed to be fun and exiting, often they end up being a bit boring – a bit? 🙂

Why? Well, many times it is the wedding anniversary speeches that end up boring everyone sitting at the dinner table. Do something about it and deliver a great talk on various subjects!

In this article:

60th Wedding Anniversary Speech

50th wedding anniversary speech, 40th wedding anniversary speech, 25th wedding anniversary speech.

Although speeches are a great part of wedding anniversaries, it is important those giving the speeches make them short, interesting and heartfelt. Those are the keys to a successful performance.

So, if you are going to have to give a speech at an anniversary celebration in the near future, here are some great general wedding anniversary speech topics that may help you out. If it is a general wedding anniversary celebration that you will be giving a speech at, then consider these tips:

  • Make Sure You Give Your Best Wishes.
  • Talk About the Years of Marriage.
  • Tell Humorous Stories.
  • Talk About What Makes the Couple Different.
  • Speak of Their Achievements.

60th wedding anniversary speech topics for the celebrants which can easily be modified to meet the expectations of partygoers at wedding arrangements.

If you have made it to your diamond celebration, your guests who are responding your 60th wedding anniversary invitations are going to be amazed when you stand up in front of them all and try to put into words all those years of one true love.

The surprise will be great.

The emotion is going to be strong, and it will be harder than ever to hold back tears, but speaking based on sparkling ideas is an honor!

  • You have had many years together with one person. Think about how awesome that is!

Public speaking like this is intended for the one you love, but your guests at the special occasion dinner are sharing it also.

Don’t be embarrassed about looking your spouse right in the eyes and telling them thank you for saving your life sixty years ago!

  • Tell he or she what it means to you and has meant in all these years to always have had her / him welcoming back home every single day.
  • Remind them in the opening part of the 60th wedding anniversary speech of the best of times you’ve had together and that by you two being together those times couldn’t have been any better.
  • Pick out special things that your spouse did for you throughout the years to brag to your guests about. Make your spouse look like the angel she really is, and from being that angel, you two made it through the worst times, too the past decades.

If the couple celebrating their anniversary is elderly or not able to get up and make their 60th wedding anniversary speech, there is still room for all the good stuff to brought out by someone who cares and loves them.

This person doesn’t necessarily have to be someone in the family, but it does need to be someone who has spent a good portion of these years with them. By the way, you do not have that written down on the 60th wedding anniversary invitations cards:

  • List some historical events of the past six decades to meet the expectations of partygoers fully – that is what they want to hear! Just another thing: Expressing your feelings in front of many people is always hard, no matter if you have known them all your life, it’s still hard.

The emotion that will pour out of  any or this 60th wedding anniversary speech is intense . The love you have for your spouse has deepened to a level many people could never understand.

Take a deep breath here and there during your talking, and keep your eye on your spouse because they will help get you through it

The same goes for anyone else who takes care for the talking if the couple is not able to do it themselves. So: in case you feel you are not able to finish: ask a relative to assist.

50th wedding anniversary speech ideas for grandmas and grandpas who stand uop in front of their beloved ones at the moment receiving first anniversary gifts and nine golden wedding anniversary ideas you wanted to share:

There you are going to be! Fact is that not many marriages make it one year; let alone half a century. So you surely have a lot to say in a this (in)formal text.

If you are having trouble thinking of what and how to say everything: I always write possibilities in a notebook and keep a few guidelines in mind during my writing efforts.

Remember the feeling you had when you first met your spouse? How little butterflies danced in your stomach?

And you could not wait until the next minute you are with that person? That is the feeling you need to think about in a 50th wedding anniversary speech when you talk about five decades years of marriage to the one who made you feel that way, and still does.

  • Thank all friends, family and other beloved ones who came to your party, and getting that out of the way, look at your husband / wife and feel those butterflies. Smile, you are celebrating life.
  • Start off in your 50th wedding anniversary speech with a particular funny and a bit humorous memory the two of you have together, and ask if your spouse remembers it?
  • Let her answer shortly, and reply with a funny remark. Of course talk about it before you speak. When he or she tells you they do, tell how they made all your days like that memory, all days you have spent together in your memories make you feel like that one does.
  • Tell them how you may not have been as good as you are 50 years together because of your love and companionship.
  • Tell your spouse that for fifty years you woke up with hope and happiness every morning because she was sleeping there still beside you. This is the emotional part of your golden wedding anniversary ideas.
  • Don’t forget all the turmoil’s you two have experienced, either. The grandest part of making it 50 beautiful years with the same person is that you must have worked well as a team in conquering those troubles.
  • Thank your spouse for standing by your side, through thick and thin, in the name of love for you.
  • Pick a particular time when you two thought the worst and made it through together because of just that, you were together.
  • Make sure to look around and thank all for the first anniversary gifts your are etting. Tell all the guests that you are the luckiest among them right at that moment to be married to who you are married to, and that you are thankful for every breathe your spouse has taken since the first one.

My Additional Perspectives and Golden Wedding Anniversary Ideas Start mixing in warm and kind wordings illustrated with a handful of memories and remember how those times made you feel.

Fill up with all those feelings and let them come out in what you say at them all together. You will end up giving an unforgettable tale of love against the hard times and how it enhanced the good times.

Make your 50th wedding anniversary speech (and any other nice number) directed right at your spouse, but include the guests by inviting them to share precious memories.

Make a tie to your children and grandchildren and state that you are proud of all they have managed in life and what they mean to you and your spouse.

The best part is the end, the closing part, but only because you need to get to your spouse, and kiss like the 50 years just started all over again

All guests will start hand clapping as approval, appreciation and acclamation … for the both of you.

40th wedding anniversary speech ideas for the ruby celebration and it should definitely be wonderful to associate with special anniversary gifts and cake decorations for your grandparents together for four decades. My checklist here sure will give you glittering inspiration:

  • Talk About the significance of the ruby – The number one great topic is to speak about the significance of the precious gemstone itself.

The jewel stands for passion and an eternal warm flames within the heart.

Appropriate for people who have been together for such quadragesimal long years.

Yes, a very beautiful word, use it somewhere in your lines   So be sure to bring this up in your 40th wedding anniversary speech.

Do you have to say something pinkish and shining?

  • Speak about the couples journey through life together – Since the happy duo has been together for more than a generation, take the time to sketch their odyssey through life: work, retirement, children, grandchildren, adventures abroad.

Ups and downs, but stress the ups!

Speech topics enough, I should say. This can include some funny stories, some of the tough times they have been through, and a lot about how love has got them through things together.

Group them in a logical or chronological order. Check the information with older family members – the accurate dates, the correct names and the cordial and the hard to do events.

  • Wish them many more anniversaries – Of course even though they have already had a quadragenarian full of blessed jubilations together.

Also a high-sounding term – mix in the previous and this one and make them smile  felicitate them even more cheerful anniversaries in good health and prosperity.

There are many prewritten 40th wedding anniversary speech formats and packages for other crown year numbers. Be careful that you do not copy one that already has been read out loud on another occasion …

Write it yourself. With a little help from me, it is obtainable.

Remember, it does not have to be boring and it definitely should not be too long. Two to three minutes are okay – thirty to forty-five sentences of eight to ten words each.

This seems to be short, but it in the end it is longer than you think …

And when you are public speaker number one of a series of amateur ruby talks: people will thank you for being brief.

Yours will stuck in their head for having the appropriate length.

Keep these ideas in mind and work to deliver the content right from your heart.

Your grandma and grandpa are in the center of the formalities, so give them all credits for being the reason for this delighted stage in the life of your family.

25th wedding anniversary speech topics for someone who is asked to talk on nice subjects presenting seemly golden anniversary gifts and show courtesy with even engraved gifts to the marriage couple:

If it happens to be a party for glorifying two and a halve decades, then you want to bring in some appetizers that are appropriate for celebration.

Here are a few starters to help you in your ideation if you are going to write lines for this joyful occasion a lot of couples do not see the race to the respectable twenty five years

  • Talk About the Time They Have Spent Together

Since this happy day is a jubilee, you should definitely point out that the couple has been together for 25 years, which is a huge milestone in their life and perhaps careers. As I said, many people do not reach that number.

They have for sure and you’re giving festive emphasis to those long years and prominence to the man and woman who are the center of the attention.

So, make sure that you point this out in your 25th wedding anniversary speech, and compliment and congratulate the couple on their happy days together for such a long time  Reveal a pattern in their lives.

Perhaps they have been moved a few times due to a professional position of responsibility in their jobs, perhaps she start a half day job from home, after the children were born. My bottom line is this: find a before and after period.

  • Golden Anniversary Gifts Related Presentations  There are specials that could be given. You can use celebration gifts to wrap around some original 25th wedding anniversary speech topics.

Nice stories with a clue pointing to the present.

End with a congratulation toast with champagne or other sparkling white wine.

Silver  is the traditional color for this anniversary, and you can mention this by making a tie to the subject; and present the gift.

  • Briefly Talk About the Way the Couple Met  Of course many people are often intrigued about the way the couple met, so it is a great idea to talk about the way they met and got together.

If they want to renew their marriage vows, use the rhetorical figure of comparising the actual date and the day of their lives twentyfive years back.

Perhaps their marriage vows include the promise to be a faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad.

In that case refer only to better times, underscore the good and happy things. Sad stories are okay, as long as it ends with a smile on everyone face.

  • Their Special Projects  Congratulate them with their successful or special projects.

Guests of honour often have had big job or hobby achievements, they have followed a special course or passed an exam, made a long journey abroad, raised orphans, or even been volunteering for their community.

Do list all and give big compliments

  • Thank the Person Who Organized the Celebration  Of course it’s also very appropriate to thank the person who organized the dinner or party as one of your 25th wedding anniversary speech topics and even other celebrations.

Give recognition for all hard work. Mention all the organizers in one sentence each.

Tell what they have done to make this a special day or night; master of ceremonies, the hosting family, the persons who provide food, the flavors and favors, decorations, and other party supplies.

If you are child of the happy couple, consider little engraved gifts or a present that represents the warmly or deeply appreciative feelings of kindness for your mum and dad .

Offer a flower bouquet with different colored roses arranged in a decorative glass vase. Once it is broken by accident they will remember the famous Dutch saying: broken glass brings luck.

As we gather here today to commemorate the incredible journey of love and togetherness that spans fifty years, we find ourselves not only appreciating the past, but also celebrating the present. The golden anniversary is a remarkable milestone that signifies not only endurance but also the continuous growth and evolution of the bond shared by two people. In this section, we will delve into the achievements and milestones attained during this beautiful journey, as well as express our heartfelt gratitude towards the family and friends who have been instrumental in making these moments even more special.

Achievements And Milestones

Over the course of fifty years, numerous achievements and milestones have undoubtedly been reached. From personal triumphs and career accomplishments to overcoming challenges hand in hand, every moment has shaped the incredible story of this golden union. Let’s take a moment to appreciate some of the significant achievements that have made this journey truly extraordinary:

  • The nurturing of a loving family, raising children who have grown into successful and compassionate individuals.
  • Building a strong and secure foundation for the future generations to come.
  • Overcoming adversity, supporting each other through thick and thin.
  • Creating a lifetime of precious memories and experiences together.
  • Embracing change and evolving together, adapting to the shifting landscapes of life.
  • Being a source of inspiration and love not just for family, but for all those who have had the chance to witness your beautiful journey.

The achievements and milestones reached have not only impacted the couple themselves, but also influenced the lives of those around them. The love and strength exhibited over these fifty years serve as a testament to the power of commitment and partnership.

Gratitude Towards Family And Friends

Take a moment to extend our deepest gratitude to the cherished family members and friends who have been a part of this incredible journey from the very beginning. Their unwavering support, love, and guidance have played an integral role in shaping your lives and the love you share. The blessings of strong familial bonds and lifelong friendships have truly enhanced the golden anniversary and made it even more extraordinary.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to:

  • Your children, who have been a constant source of pride, joy, and inspiration.
  • Your parents and extended family, whose love and guidance have provided a solid foundation for this remarkable journey.
  • Your dearest friends, whose unwavering presence has added endless laughter, support, and shared experiences.

Let us take a moment to offer our deepest gratitude to all those who have been a part of your lives, showering you with love and support, and making every step of this journey even more noteworthy.

Looking Towards The Future

As we reflect on our golden anniversary, we embrace the future with hope and excitement. We celebrate the milestones of the past and look forward to the countless possibilities that lie ahead. Our journey continues, guided by the memories and lessons of the past 50 years.

As we celebrate the momentous occasion of a golden anniversary, it is only natural to reflect on the past and all the wonderful memories it holds. However, it is equally important to look towards the future and think about the goals, aspirations, and words of wisdom that will guide us into the next chapter of our lives together.

Goals And Aspirations

Setting goals and having aspirations is a fundamental part of growth and progress. As we embark on the journey beyond 50 years of love and commitment, it is essential to establish new goals that will inspire and motivate us. These goals could be as simple as continuing to prioritize our relationship and nurturing our love, or they could involve more significant milestones, such as traveling the world together or starting a new venture as a couple.

Having clear goals not only gives us something to work towards, but it also helps to strengthen the bond between partners. By setting goals together, we align our visions, dreams, and aspirations, creating a shared sense of purpose and direction. This shared purpose can be a powerful driving force that fuels our love and keeps us connected.

Words Of Wisdom

After five decades of marriage, there is no doubt that you have accumulated a wealth of wisdom and experience. Sharing this wisdom not only benefits you both as a couple, but it can also serve as a source of inspiration for your loved ones and future generations.

Take a moment to reflect on the challenges you have faced and the lessons you have learned. Think about the moments of joy and the times of struggle. Consider the values that have guided you through thick and thin and the principles that have held your relationship together. These words of wisdom can serve as guiding principles for the future, reminding you of what truly matters and how to navigate the ups and downs that life may bring.

Remember, words have the power to shape our reality and impact our relationships. By sharing your words of wisdom, you contribute to the legacy of love and happiness that you have built over the past 50 years. Your wisdom can inspire others to cherish and nurture their own relationships, making the world a better place one couple at a time.

engagement speech

Whether you are one half of this happy couple or are honouring this successful relationship, you want to do all you can to sum up twenty five years of love and commitment in the perfect speech.

Use this as an opportunity to remind everyone that marriage can be just as romantic as a Nicholas Sparks novel. Perhaps even more so. You’ve had the opportunity to watch your favourite characters grow together and prove that, over time, love is more than something you cringe at in a cheesy Netflix series.

With all that being said, doing all of that in less than ten minutes can be quite the task, so Speechy are here to show you how to write and deliver an unforgettable anniversary speech.

How to Write the Perfect Silver Anniversary Speech

  • Keep it short and sweet:  Aim between 5-10 minutes and no more than 1,200 words.
  • Get reminiscent:  You’ll have copious stories and anecdotes to share.
  • Honour your partner/the couple: Pay tribute to the little habits that have made this marriage what it is today.
  • The importance of humour:  Humour can be the best way to show affection.
  • Shout out the special ones:  Thank those who have helped support the relationship.
  • The sweet spot:  Finish with a good old dose of sentimentality.

anniversary speech

Keep it Short and Sweet

The perfect start to a speech is taking a trip down memory lane and sharing stories that explore many years of memories. Reminiscing on old times will captivate the room in a way that generic compliments won’t.

It is important to remember that these anecdotes should be inclusive and not consist of inside jokes between you and the recipient – you want the room to relate and appreciate the person/couple they are celebrating.

Of course, a few confessions and surprises always go down a treat. Take a visit to the cornerstones of the relationship and hit the room with a ‘some of you may not remember this, but…

Whether you are celebrating your parents or your partner with this speech, you want to remind the room about how much you truly know them.

This is the perfect opportunity to hone in on your favourite quirks and traits about the person. Be it their secret relationship with the dog or the everlasting feud with the postman, the little habits don’t have to paint them out to be the perfect partner. If anything, declarations like these prove that you still love each other enough to taunt each other.

Reaching twenty-five years of marriage is a massive accomplishment, so ensure that you draw on the behaviours that have made this relationship an easier ride – even if there have been a few disputes throughout the years.

The Importance of Humour

What’s an anniversary speech without plenty of laughter. Begin with an ice-breaker-like comparing the relationship to a prison sentence.

It is simpler than people think to craft unique comedy, as the ideal material is already at your fingertips. Forget overused jokes from the internet and recycled cliches that will make the room cringe, just speak candidly about the person/couple who is at the heart of the speech.

Exaggerate their traits, add some supportive evidence and tease them in a kind-hearted, friendly way that doesn’t break the boundary between funny and rude. Adding some self-deprecating humour if you’re part of the couple will also go down a treat-there are bound to be a few bad habits of your own that have made your partner question why they’ve tolerated you for so long.

Shout Out The Special Ones

Be sure to take a moment to thank those who have helped support the marriage throughout the years. Whether you have greatly received advice from your parents, a shoulder from your best friend or a witty comment from your children, ensure they are made aware that they are loved and appreciated.

The Sweet Spot

If all humour has landed well and there have been no threats of divorce, your audience will appreciate some timely sentiment to wrap up your speech. Acknowledge how important your partner/the couple is to everyone in the room and allow one more time to look back on twenty-five years’ worth of memories.

Conclude with the L-word and a toast ‘to many more happy years of loving each other.

Champaign glass ready for toasting.

There is an art to anniversary toasts and speeches just as there is an art to staying married. We tend to celebrate the big ones -- the 10th, 25th or 50th -- but all anniversaries deserve special notice. Perhaps a 12th anniversary does not warrant a blow-out party, but if you take a couple out for their anniversary, you'll certainly want to make a toast or say something appropriate.

Or send the special couple a card using some of the sentiments you see here.

While all anniversaries should be celebrated, there are traditional times when remembering an anniversary often go beyond a quiet dinner or an exchange of cards and gifts.    If you need inspiration for anniversary toasts and speeches, you'll find no shortage of words of wisdom about marriage.

Probably the anniversary which is celebrated most often with family and friends is the 50th. . . known as the golden anniversary. According to the Census Bureau , fewer than 5% of all marriages last 50 years. If a couple reaches that mark, they have beaten the statistical odds for a long-term covenant and deserve the congratulations of those whose lives they have touched.

Couple celebrating 50th anniversary.

At the point of the 50th anniversary, a couple's children are grown and grandchildren are probably close to being adults. They have peaked in their working lives and retirement is here or near. The fact that a union has remained stable and solid for five decades is certainly a landmark to celebrate!

Other anniversaries also have special designations. The 25th is the silver one, and the 75th anniversary -- for couples who are lucky enough to make it that long -- is labeled the diamond anniversary. Indeed, there is an anniversary gift designated for almost every year of marriage.

Often, people who have been married for decades have all the "stuff" they need. So it is popular for people to give a gift to a couple's favorite charity as a tribute to their long marriage. But if you're the traditional type, you might want to give a gift that goes with a certain anniversary. Or the traditions associated with a 5th, 25th or 50th anniversary could become part of your toast or anniversary message.

Table of toasting glasses filled with Champaigne.

When offering anniversary toasts or speeches, be sure to congratulate the couple and make mention of significant points in their lives. You should also invite others to share special memories about the couple. Ideally, ask one or two people close to the anniversary couple if they would like to make some remarks. You should contact them ahead of time so they can prepare.

For inspiration, refer to some of the more popular anniversary toasts and sayings which blend humor with stereotypes.

(Cautionary note to any of you who are sensitive  types:  some  toasts get their humor from stereotypes.)

Wedding Speeches Examples

Best wedding speeches.

Writing a wedding speech can seem daunting, but with some preparation and guidance, you can deliver a heartfelt and memorable speech that will be cherished by the newlyweds and their guests.

Good evening, everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Sarah, and I’m the ___ I’ve known the bride, Emily, since we were little girls, and we’ve been best friends ever since. I remember the first time she told me about Alex, and how excited she was to go on a date with him. From that moment on, I knew he was something special. Seeing them together over the years has been such a joy, and I’m so happy to be here today to celebrate their love. Emily, you are the most kind, caring, and generous person I know. And Alex, you are her perfect match. I’ve never seen her so happy as she is with you. I know you will continue to be each other’s best friend, confidant, and partner in all of life’s adventures. So, let’s raise a glass to the newlyweds. May your love continue to grow stronger with each passing day. Congratulations!

Groom Wedding Speech

“I would like to thank my parents for all the help they have given me over the years, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here now. I would also like to thank (my wife’s) parents for making me feel like the son they never wanted, sorry the son they never had, right from day 2. Day 1 was a bit rough, but hey, they’re over it now. I would also like to thank them for having such a beautiful, intelligent, kind, and caring daughter. I hope to do you both proud and thank you both for everything you have done today and to make today happen.”

The groom’s wedding speech starts at the reception. On behalf of himself and his bride, he expresses his gratitude to everyone involved in the wedding preparations. He toasts his parents, bridesmaids, and the groom’s party, and mentions their help and support. His speech is often quite sentimental, as he shares some personal memories. He also mentions how his life has changed since he met his bride.

Wedding Speeches for Parents

When the kids find love, the parents are also happy. So, it rests upon them to give wedding reception speeches in honor of their children. Now, depending on the chosen style, you’ll have to fit in with the wedding theme. Most times, a funny speech is just perfect, because it works for every wedding. Below, we’ll see wedding speech examples for different parents.

Wedding Speeches for Mother of the Groom

“The first time I saw you, it was love. My little baby grew into a wobbly toddler, and then a smart child. The pre-teen and teen years and the next thing I knew, you’ve become a man. I am so proud of you. You’ve made us proud of everything you’ve done. And on your wedding today, we wish you only the best.”

As a mother of the groom, wedding speeches for your son will be an emotional one. You’ll talk about his growing up, the bond you share, and how he was well-raised. You can add one or two romantic quotes  and close. See the wedding speeches sample below.

Wedding Speeches for Mother of the Bride

“It’s no news that we love our kids so much, and seeing them grow up is hard. Everything they do fills you with pride. But you also miss the little girl who cuddles into you. And cried to you when she scraped her knee. Now my daughter is older and I’m grateful and proud that she found love in the groom. May your lives be long, happy, and peaceful together.”

The wedding speeches for mother of the bride isn’t a norm. But today, it’s becoming acceptable especially if the father isn’t involved. Tell your daughter that she’s beautiful and strong. Talk about the good memories in her growing years. And if her father has passed, talk about him with fondness.

Wedding Speeches for Father of the Groom

“My greatest blessing is having a son, one that mirrors me in many ways. But like his dream, he’s grown into his own person. He has taught me as much as I’ve taught him and I’m proud. My son is someone who goes the extra mile for people and I know he’ll make an amazing husband. I wish you every best, as we raise our glass to the groom and his amazing bride.”

Your son getting married excites you because he carries on the torch. Again, he will be looking to you for support and wisdom for marriage. So, good wedding speeches from the father of the groom must contain lots of quotes about marriage . Draw inspiration from talking about your own marriage, the bond you share, and why he’s a great son.

Wedding Speeches for Father of the Bride

“Looking at both of you in your beautiful dress and dapper suit, my wedding day comes to mind. We were quite excited, filled with love, merriment, and of course nervousness. From me to you, I’ll tell you for free that a successful marriage requires falling in love many times. And doing it with the same person always.”

As the father of the bride, you have responsibilities to your baby girl. From walking her down the aisle to the father-daughter dance. Throwing in a great speech is just perfect. Let your love for your baby shine through and talk about her growing up. Remember the groom, give them pieces of advice, and your best wishes. See the wedding speeches template below for some inspiration.

Wedding Speeches for Sister

Ladies and gentlemen, today I stand before you with immense pride and joy as I celebrate my sister’s union with [Groom’s Name]. As her older sister, I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow into the amazing woman she is today. She has found in [Groom’s Name] the love and support she deserves. Here’s to a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Cheers to the newlyweds!

When delivering a wedding speech for your sister, begin by expressing your love and pride for her. Share heartfelt stories that illustrate her special qualities, highlight her relationship with the groom, and offer well-wishes for their future. End your speech by raising a toast to the newlyweds.

Best Man Wedding Speech

Take a look at this great example of a witty speech, presented by the best man.

“There comes a time in everyone’s life when they meet their one true love, their soul mate, the person that’s going to know and love them for the rest of their life. That moment came for the groom…3 years ago when he met me. Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, for those of you that don’t know me my name, is Dan, What-would-you-like-to-drink. I hope you’ll come and say hello at the bar later, but please…call me by my full name. On behalf of the bride and groom, I’d like to thank you all for coming. And I want to give special thanks to the parents of the bride and groom… it’s amazing how far some people are willing to travel, just for some free food and drink. And finally, I’d like to thank my best friend (the groom), for giving me the first EVER opportunity…. to be able to speak for five minutes without him interrupting!”
“They say, in a good marriage the husband is the head, and the wife is the heart. So let us drink to the fact that our young people did not know in life either headaches or heartaches!”
“Love is not a fire, it will catch fire, you will not put out. In the hearts of our young people, the fire of love burns. This is a sacred fire. So, fill our glasses and amicably drink to ensure that it never goes out in their hearts!”
“I drink to ensure that our newly married and in 10 years and 20 years of family life, looking at his charming wife, lost his head, but not reason.”
“Friends! I offer a drink for a kiss! After all, he came up with a man, because he did not find any other way to close a mouth to a woman.”

Wedding speeches best man deliver are usually the most humorous of all the others. Thank you’s are also appropriate, especially to the bridesmaids and fellow groomsmen. Some anecdotes about the groom would be also much anticipated. People expect wedding best man speeches to be memorable, funny, with well wishes to the couple . Humor is a must.

100+ Best Wedding Toasts For Different Types Of Guests

Maid of honor speech outline.

“Before I go any further, I just want to say, Bride, you look absolutely beautiful and Groom, you’ve never looked more handsome. For those of you who don’t know me and for those who can’t tell, I’m Bride’s sister. Thank you Bride for the honor of being your bridesmaid. Obviously, I’ve known Bride all of my life and we know more about each other than we would probably care to. We’ve laughed together, cried together, and laughed until we’ve cried. We’ve also had the odd fight! We also have so many inside jokes that only we find funny.”
“A real woman can make a man who surrendered to her, always think that he is the winner. Look at our groom. He looks like a winner. Therefore, let us drink to his beautiful victory and the woman who allowed herself to be defeated, the bride.”
“What is the difference between the fairy tale and the reality? A fairy tale is when he married a snake, and she became a princess. A reality when it on the contrary. Let the life of our newlyweds be like a fairy tale!”

There is one thing all wedding speeches maid of honor makes have in common: they boost the bride. Like any other wedding speech, the maid of honor’s speech can be witty and humorous, but the most important feature of this category is love and sentimentality. Add a couple of memorable stories you have of the newlyweds. Don’t forget well wishes!

Wedding Speeches for Best Friends

“I’m here to talk about two very special people, John and Eve. I’ve been friends with Eve since kindergarten. On our first day at school, we met and formed a friendship that has lived two decades and some. We got into trouble a lot and got grounded many times by the parents. My bestie is free-spirited and has a strong will to date. James, I hope you’re prepared for marriage with a woman who is full of life and spirit. With her, you’ll never live the same day twice. I wish you heaven’s best all your life. A toast…”

Wedding Welcoming Speeches

“Welcome to the celebration of James and Eve’s wedding. A tale of love that promises to last forever. Today promises to be one of beauty, friendships formed, and bonds lasting forever. For you all who have come from far and near to celebrate, we hope you take joy home with you. The happiness of marriage is the highest happiness on earth. And this is what we’ve witnessed today. Sit back, relax, have the time of your lives, and thank you for choosing to share in our joy.

Funny Wedding Speeches

Good evening everyone! For those who don’t know me, I’m the groom’s brother. I’d like to start by saying that I’m delighted to see so many people here tonight, and I hope you’re all enjoying the celebrations as much as we are. Now, it’s not often that you get to make a speech at your brother’s wedding, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share a few stories about him. Growing up, my brother was always the smart one. He was top of his class and excelled at everything he did. And then he met his beautiful bride-to-be, and everything changed. Suddenly he became clumsy, forgetful, and absent-minded. I guess you could say that love really does make you do crazy things. But in all seriousness, I couldn’t be happier for the two of them. They truly are a perfect match, and I have no doubt that they will have a long and happy life together. So let’s raise a glass to the newlyweds – may your marriage be filled with love, laughter, and lots of adventures!

Writing a funny wedding speech can entertain guests and create lasting memories. Keep it appropriate, short, know your audience, and practice for a smooth delivery.

“Groom, thank you for being an anchor, a friend, and brother. And I can’t be more proud that you married an amazing bride. Man! You’ve won a lottery! We celebrate both of you tonight, and all of the good things you are. You care for everyone and I’m sure you’ll care for her. We wish you success, laughter, and love. May your humor in bad times and appreciation in good times never leave you. May you get answers to prayers. May the friendship you share keep growing till death parts you. Cheers to you!”

Whether you’re giving wedding speeches for the bride, best man, or brother; the shorter the better. This will help make sure you don’t bore the audience. 11 /14

Wedding Thank You Speeches

“We (couple) worked really hard to make this day perfect. But we remembered that being bound to the one you love in the presence of your loved ones — is what makes the day perfect. I’m overjoyed that we had beautiful weather. The food and drinks were great and everyone is happy. Thank you all, especially my beloved, because today I’m bound to him to start a beautiful journey together. And after all my fears and jitters, today turned out to be much more memorable than we planned. Thank you.”

Wedding thank you speeches give you the opportunity to thank your guests. You will also extend your appreciation to everyone who made your day possible. If you intend to mention names, have a list, so that you don’t leave anyone out. This speech can come from the bride or groom. But it’s always better to skip the names. Also, infuse some humor. 12 /14

Wedding Officiant Speeches

“Shall we all sit? Today, we gather to witness and celebrate the matrimony of Eve and James. What they have is an existing bond, and we’ve come together to strengthen it. As family and friends, it’s our honor to witness today. Marriage is a lifetime commitment where two people work tirelessly to bring out the best in each other. You get an opportunity to share your joys, success, failures, and burdens with an ally for life. You get an opportunity to share and grow. One relationship which no other can equal. You are in for a physical and emotional binding that has the promise of a lifetime.”

Great wedding officiant speeches must be short, sweet, and have the perfect length to keep guests dialed in. The officiant should leverage the relationship and how much they know the couple. You must also tailor your speech in line with the wedding style. 13 /14

Wedding Anniversary Speeches

“Anniversaries are beautiful recollections of the past years and reflections for the years to come. The years past were happy and successful ones in many ways. They’re shrouded in a kaleidoscope of great relationships, supportive families, and happy memories. I’m not saying it’s smooth, but with your support, the journey became easier. We can only be grateful, even as we look forward to better years. As we celebrate our 50th year, I want to thank you for walking with us. It’s not a question of where you, it’s who goes with you. Thank you, everyone.”

A wedding anniversary speech must be heartfelt, sweet, and short. Whoever is giving the speech must know that it’s a time to reminisce and give good wishes. So, you’ll talk about the marriage, throw in some humor and bless the couple. If it’s the couple giving the speech, some advice will go a long way. 14 /14

Wedding Quotes for Speeches

“I’ve seen nothing more satisfying than two people coming together to become one. They share in each other’s pleasure, and bear each other’s pain. They crush their enemies together and make home with their friends.” “The pain and weight of life vanish from our lives by one word. It sets us free and we live again. It’s called LOVE.” “If you want to keep your marriage cup filled and running over, always admit your wrongs. And, if you’re right, be kind to shut up.”

Wedding Speeches Tips

Ready to seize the mic, command the room, and leave everyone applauding your wedding speech? Not quite yet? Amanda Layton, a Professional Wedding Speech Writer, shared top 5 tips to help you craft and deliver an epic wedding speech. With a little bit of guidance, you’ll be delivering an unforgettable toast that captures hearts and makes memories for years to come!

  • Keep it Short and Sweet First things first–when it comes to wedding speeches less is more. Did you know that a 5-minute speech is approximately 700 words? It’s important to keep your speech concise and to the point, ensuring that every word is impactful and resonates with the audience.
  • Skip the Roasts Steer clear of roasting the couple. It might sound funny in your head, but trust me, some things are better left unsaid. Avoid cringeworthy moments by focusing on heartwarming and positive anecdotes that celebrate the couple’s journey and love.
  • Harness the Power of Storytelling Capture everyone’s attention by using storytelling to highlight either the bride or groom’s wonderful qualities. Is she loyal, adventurous, generous, or kind-hearted? Is he optimistic, resilient, hilarious, etc? Share a touching story that really showcases one of these character traits, allowing everyone to get a deeper insight into how amazing this person truly is.
  • Celebrate the Path to Becoming a Husband or Wife Remember that this is a wedding celebration and your wedding speech is a great opportunity to encourage the bride in her new role as a wife or the groom in his new role as a husband. Share your heartfelt wishes and why you believe they will make an amazing partner in this new chapter of their life.
  • Practice Makes Perfect Confidence is key! Practice your speech a few times to build up your self-assurance. Remember to speak slowly when practicing because you are more likely to speed up in front of a crowd. Think of the areas you might tear up at and remember to pause and take a second to breathe. You don’t have to rush through the toast. Everyone wants to hear what you clearly have to say. Here’s the thing, the audience wants you to succeed, so embrace those nerves and let them fuel your confident delivery! You’ve got this, my friend! With these tips and a little bit of preparation, your speech is bound to be a show-stopper that leaves everyone applauding and reaching for the tissues! Crafting a memorable wedding speech is an art form, and your words have the power to touch hearts and create lasting memories.

Wedding Speeches Order

The order of wedding speeches can vary depending on cultural traditions and personal preferences. However, a common order for wedding speeches is as follows:

  • Father of the Bride: Welcomes guests, and expresses love and pride for his daughter.
  • Groom: Thanks guests, expresses gratitude to both families, and shares love for the bride.
  • Best Man: Shares humorous anecdotes about the groom, and proposes a toast.
  • Maid/Matron of Honor: Expresses friendship and admiration for the bride, offers wisdom, and proposes a toast.
  • Additional speeches: Other family members or friends may give shorter speeches or toasts as desired. Note: The order and inclusion of speeches can be customized to the couple’s preferences. Communication with the wedding party beforehand is essential for a smooth flow of the reception.

Wedding Speeches Template

Introduction:

  • Greet the guests and introduce yourself.
  • Express your gratitude for being chosen to speak at the wedding.

Personal Connection:

  • Share a personal story or memory about the couple.
  • Talk about your relationship with either the bride or groom (or both) and how you’ve seen their love grow.

Compliments and Qualities:

  • Compliment the couple individually and as a pair.
  • Highlight their qualities and what makes them a great match.

Anecdotes and Humor:

  • Share light-hearted and funny anecdotes about the couple.
  • Keep the humor appropriate and avoid embarrassing stories.

Words of Wisdom:

  • Offer advice or lessons on love, marriage, or relationships.
  • Use heartfelt and meaningful quotes or poems if desired.
  • Raise a toast to the couple’s happiness and future together.
  • Invite guests to join in raising their glasses and toasting.
  • Express well wishes and congratulations to the newlyweds.
  • End with a final heartfelt message or a toast to love.

Remember to personalize the speech to your relationship with the couple and make it heartfelt and authentic. Practice it beforehand to ensure a smooth delivery and consider keeping the speech around 3-5 minutes in length.

Things You’d Better Exclude From Any Wedding Speech

At the same time, there are things great wedding speeches avoid.

  • Do not include any embarrassing information.
  • Do not mention previous boyfriends or girlfriends of the newlyweds.
  • Do not say rude things like ‘We thought that day would never come’.
  • Do not include any crude language, there are all sorts of guests around, and what is totally appropriate in a group of friends is inappropriate at the celebration.
  • Adding humor, don’t make fun of the bride or groom. This is your best friend’s wedding, do not spoil it! If in doubt – use examples above, but by no means copy them. It is only a piece of speech to boost your imagination.

Wedding Speeches can be tricky to write, but we hope that now you have everything you need to deliver a perfect speech. A couple of jokes, a sentimental story, and letting your love for the couple shine is all it takes.

What Not to Say in a Wedding Speech

  • Embarrassing Stories : Steer clear of tales that could embarrass the couple.
  • Negative Remarks : Refrain from negative comments or jokes.
  • Excessive Inside Jokes : Ensure your speech is inclusive for all guests.
  • Lengthy Monologues : Keep it concise and engaging.
  • Controversial Topics : Avoid sensitive or controversial subjects.

  • Wedding Anniversary Speech for Wife

ffImage

Anniversaries are anyway a special occasion whether the two people celebrate with each other or they decide to share this happiness with their group of friends and family. It is extra special when this celebration takes place in the presence of friends, as there is more laughter, fine food and drinks and of course old stories and a great time. In this Wedding Anniversary Speech For Wife, we will explore different ways helpful for you to express yourself. It can be a long 25th Wedding Anniversary Speech For the Wife or a Short Wedding Anniversary Speech For the Wife.

Long and Short Wedding Anniversary Speech for Wife

Long wedding anniversary speech for wife.

This is very helpful as the 25th Wedding Anniversary Speech or even 10 years of the bond, when the couple is celebrating this milestone deserves a long speech for your spouse.

Hello, my lovely friends, I am so happy you could all make it here today, I understand we are all busy, so thank you for being here for our special day, to celebrate this day. Today my wife and I completed 25 years of togetherness. This is a special speech for my wife, who is looking 25 years younger and very beautiful today.

My wife, Nilofar (mention your wife’s name) and I have long ago decided to overdo or have any over the top celebration. Every year it was just you and me on an intimate dinner and lots of laughter looking back on the wonderful years. But today I had to break this rule that we laid to surprise you, darling can you believe it's been 25 years?

I know the wedding is not about the showing and glittery bits or a fancy theme, but you make it special year after year for me. So, this time I had to take it upon myself to show how much you mean to me. And instead of going the conventional way, I decided to work hard and be creative. And, the look on your face tells me you are happy so all this has been so worth the efforts.

Our union has been in the true union of two souls, you are my soulmate, my best friend and the love of my life. I am so lucky to have found my best friend in my wife and 25 years would not have been possible without this friendship.

The sacred vows we took and the promises we made to be by each other no matter what has been kept very sincerely. I remember a few years ago when many things in my life were not going well, my father passed away, my mother was devastated and grieving and even I was hit with an illness. I can’t even think about it without feeling emotional.

You were the one, who stood like a rock and refused to give up on this mountain of sorrows our family was going through. If it were not for you we would have been so lost and never found our way back. You took care of our children, my mother and everything like a warrior. My wife, your strength and outlook on life has made every one of us a better person and taught us how to face adversities in life.

When we first started to get to know one another, I was nervous and anxious. I remember thinking, dear lord, what have I done, she is so different from me, how will we live together? And today I thank him for bringing you into my life, it is because of our differences I learn so much from you. Your optimistic nature and generous laughter are infectious. I was a nobody and your trust and faith in me have brought me anything good that I am today and have in my life.  My wife, Nilofar is the most beautiful and generous woman I have ever met, there is no one like you. I am so lucky we found each other in this journey of life. Well, I think we are just starting and the fun has just begun. I cannot wait to start the next 25 with you, I am certain it will be as wonderful as the years gone by have been. I love you Nilofar, happy anniversary to us.

Short Wedding Anniversary Speech for Wife

This is very helpful when you wish to keep it short and simple and still make your wife feel important, valued and special.

Thank you to my lovely friends and family who are here to celebrate our special day with us. I am not an extravagant and expressive person. So, I thought of taking it to a different level and shock my gorgeous wife, Sheena (mention your wife) here, who is looking lovely in that dress/saree because it is definitely a huge milestone.

I know I cannot thank you enough for the love and support you have given me and our families all these years. When we met we didn’t even think we would like each other, and now we are married for 25 years. 25 years and 2 beautiful children later we are here. Of course, let us not forget our furry friend Nobita which by the way was a birthday gift from my wife. It’s a surprise for us and our friends who know us well too, nobody thought we could make it even a year.

It was not a rosy or a flowery journey, we had our share of struggle and hardships but truly it is your belief and understanding of the situation that has helped us sail through such rough tides. My wife is my best friend and my guide. It is a marriage with lots of laughing at each other’s mistakes but also correcting when one needs to. This friendship and love are what I have always aspired in my partner and my marriage. And with Sheena, every day is equally beautiful just like her. She surprises me even after all these years. I am still learning about her and I think that’s what makes it special also.

Sheena, my love you are the strongest and the kindest person and I could not have asked for a better partner for life. Thank you for choosing me every day and I can see Sheena is tearing up so I will stop now. Happy anniversary my gorgeous wife. Thank you!

10 Line Wedding Anniversary Speech for Wife

Wedding Anniversaries are beautiful reminders to reminisce about our journeys.

This is more to show to my spouse the value she holds in my life rather than showing off to the world.

The best part of our journey together is that we have always been a team.

No one should try to up another especially in tough times like arguments or fights.

It is an unsaid understanding that one should have that they are there for each other and not against.

Anniversaries are also a beautiful reminder that relationships have stood the test of time and despite everything, the couple loves each other.

Relationships are so fragile and delicate and the one of marriage is also sacred so it must be treated that way and tended to every day.

There is a certain friendship that develops between spouses after a few years which can make the journey more fun.

My wife and I too, are here celebrating this milestone after many stormy days but we held each other through it all.

I would like to thank my wife for putting up through it all and being the most understanding person.

Giving an anniversary or wedding speech? Do this to make it memorable

If you’re the one chosen to deliver an unforgettable anniversary or wedding speech in front of family and friends, don’t let the special occasion rattle you. instead, follow this simple advice..

Last weekend I had the honor of delivering a speech and offering a toast during a small family gathering to celebrate my parents’ 60 th wedding anniversary.

My No. 1 goal?

To make the speech and the toast memorable.

You may be facing the same challenge if you’ve been asked to write and deliver a personalized anniversary or wedding speech – either at an intimate gathering among family or at a reception with several hundred guests in attendance.

Creating just the right anniversary or wedding speech can seem intimidating at first.

You begin to visualize the event and realize that all eyes will be on you the moment you stand up to speak.

The stakes are high: The happy couple and every guest in the room will expect to hear a speech that’s entertaining, uplifting and memorable.

How can you make it so?

To write and deliver an anniversary or wedding speech that everyone remembers, start by deciding on a single message.

One point that you want everyone to take with them long after the evening is over.

Here’s the speech I delivered last weekend, crafted around a single message.

Good evening, everyone.

I’d like to take a minute to personally thank each and every one of you for being here tonight to celebrate Mom and Dad’s 60th wedding anniversary.

In a few moments, we’re going to enjoy a champagne toast and some anniversary cake.

Before we do, I’d like to share a reflection with all of you.

speech on anniversary of marriage

For a couple’s first anniversary, the traditional theme is paper.

Think of it as a blank slate for a young couple to write their own story.

A gentle reminder that a yearlong marriage has not yet stood the test of time.

Year five is traditionally celebrated with a gift made out of wood.

So Dad – quick – think back:

On June 25, 1965, did you make something for Mom out of walnut wood, I wonder?

As the years go on, the themes for wedding anniversary gifts get a little more interesting, and the traditional gifts a bit more valuable:

  • There’s tin or aluminum to mark year 10 …
  • Crystal for year 15 …
  • And china for year 20.

The 25th is remembered with silver.

And the 50th with precious gold.

But the diamond – the diamond! – is reserved exclusively for couples that have made their love last for 60 years.

Like Mom and Dad.

In case you didn’t know, that’s

  • 720 months …
  • 3,120 weeks …
  • 21,900 days …

More than half a million hours of togetherness.

A rare feat.

speech on anniversary of marriage

If there was a geologist among us tonight, he or she might regale us with stories about the physical properties of a diamond.

Diamonds are amazing.

Because of their bright luster, they twinkle and sparkle.

They disperse white light into reds, greens and blues.

They are chemically resistant – and a perfect conductor of heat.

They are the ultimate mineral – the hardest substance in nature! – for one simple reason.

Their bonds are strong.

Really, really strong.

I’m no geologist, but I know this:

That diamonds are made of carbon.

Each carbon atom in a diamond is surrounded by – and powerfully connected to – four other carbon atoms.

There’s nothing else in nature like it!

These carbon-atom connections are the strongest type of chemical bonds.

Each tightly bound arrangement repeats itself in three dimensions, over and over again, like billions of spools connected to billions of rods in a Tinkertoy set – only much, much tinier.

This molecular structure makes diamonds hard – durable! everlasting! – because their bonds are strong.

And that’s exactly what we’re celebrating tonight with Mom and Dad on their diamond wedding anniversary.

Strong bonds.

The strongest bonds take YEARS to develop.

In the case of a diamond?

It takes millions of years!

In the case of Mom and Dad?

Their bonds began to form when Dad saw Mom for the first time around 1945, when they were about 13 years old in Indiana.

Dad remembers it.

Because HIS dad had something that MOM’s dad really needed:

A new part for their broken washing machine.

It was a part that couldn’t be found anywhere else since World War II was still going on, and many things you needed were hard to come by.

speech on anniversary of marriage

Years later, when Mom was a high school senior, she ran into Dad at her high school prom.

She thought Dad was a good-looking guy!

But there was just one problem:

He was dating Mom’s best friend Betty.

In 1952 when Dad went into the Army, Betty was still in the picture off and on.

But it wasn’t serious.

So when a country boy got sweet on Betty, and told Jerry he ought to move along, Dad saw opportunity!

And took it as a sign.

He made a new decision.

From his barracks in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Dad started writing letters to Mom back in Oldenburg.

He wanted to take a chance on Eileen: a nice girl who was nice looking. Quiet. Not loud-mouthed or wild.

Mom wrote back.

By then, she was working as a medical secretary for Dr. Daly’s office right next door to the red brick house she grew up in.

Whenever Dad came home on leave, they saw each other here and there.

She thought Jerry was pretty neat!

Cool. Polite. Respectful.

And still VERY good looking.

speech on anniversary of marriage

But by then?

Dad had gotten just a little “too cool.”

At least by Mom’s standards.

They tried to keep dating.

But it was Mom who broke it off.

In 1955, Dad left for Purdue University to study civil engineering, and Mom went about her business at the doctor’s office, going on blind dates every once in a while.

They didn’t correspond.

And they didn’t see each other anymore.

speech on anniversary of marriage

He stopped in for a minute.

Just to say hi.

Mom was stunned.

Her first thought?

Dad was MORE handsome.

MORE dignified.

But more importantly?

He’d grown up.

Mom could tell.

This is it! she thought.

So they started dating again.

Only a few months later – in December of 1959 – after a romantic evening of dancing at the Coonhunters Lodge in Batesville, Indiana, Dad pulled off on the side of the road and presented Mom with a diamond ring.

There weren’t any words.

And she knew.

speech on anniversary of marriage

I always cared for her.

If I was going out with another girl, I was always comparing that girl to Eileen.

She never got out of my mind.

The wedding was six months later, on a gorgeous summer Saturday, June 25, 1960.

At 9 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, Jerry and Eileen made their sacred promises to each other.

Their guests – mostly family – were treated to a sit-down dinner at Hillcrest Country Club in Batesville.

And on Monday morning, Mom and Dad took off for a weeklong honeymoon in Escanaba and Mackinaw Island, Michigan.

Everyone here tonight knows the rest of the story.

For all of us are part of it.

And – as the story goes – they lived happily ever after.

Which brings us to today.

To tonight.

And to our toast.

To Mom and Dad … Grandma and Grandpa … Jerry and Eileen:

Love that is true never grows old.

Wishing you God’s abundant blessings, continued good health and profound happiness on your diamond anniversary.

Cheers to 60 years!

If you have the honor of delivering an anniversary or wedding speech this year, you may spend a lot of time early on fretting about what you want to say.

But there’s no need to fret if you follow this simple advice:

Decide on a single message – and craft your entire speech around that message.

If you have a story that has nothing to do with your message, it doesn’t belong in your anniversary or wedding speech. By sticking with one theme – one point – you will find it much easier to decide what to leave in and what to cut out.

In my experience, once you land on that all-important single message, everything else will fall into place.

You will definitely feel less overwhelmed and much more inspired.

And before you know it?

Your speech will begin to write itself.

(Don’t believe me? Just try it!)

You may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Anniversary Toasts: 11 Do’s and Don’ts

Anniversary Toasts

Table of Contents

1. Understand The Couple

Knowing the couple’s personality, relationship, and interests will allow you to create a personalized and heartfelt tribute that genuinely speaks to the couple and their journey together.

Are they funny and lighthearted, or more serious and reflective? Do they have a shared sense of humor or a common passion? Incorporate these elements into your toast to highlight what makes the couple special.

2. Keep It Personal

Tailor the toast to the couple and their relationship to convey a deeper appreciation for their journey together and highlight their unique love story .

Sharing anecdotes or stories celebrating the couple’s true love and accomplishments is an excellent way to personalize the toast. It shows that you have taken the time to reflect on their relationship and appreciate their journey.

3. Be Sincere And Heartfelt

When delivering your toast, sincerity and emotional authenticity create a powerful and memorable moment for everyone involved.

Avoid generic or cliched statements that lack a personal touch. Instead, reflect on the couple’s unique qualities and experiences and highlight how they have impacted your life.

Emotional authenticity allows you to connect with the audience on a deeper level. Sharing your emotions and experiences creates a more genuine and relatable message that resonates with everyone.

4. Brevity And Clarity Is Key

The key to a great wedding anniversary toast is brevity and clarity. Long, rambling anniversary speeches can quickly become tedious, leading to a lack of interest from the audience.

Tips on how to structure a short but meaningful speech:

  • Begin your speech by introducing yourself and acknowledging the couple or the event you are celebrating.
  • Share a personal connection or experience with the couple.
  • Acknowledge the significance of the occasion and what it means to you.
  • Thank the couple or the organizers for inviting you to share in their celebration.
  • End your speech with a toast to the couple or the event. Raise your glass to signal the end of your speech.

5. Plan Ahead

Without adequate preparation and practice, you may become nervous, forget important details, or stumble over words, detracting from the overall impact of your message.

Reasons why preparation and rehearsal are essential when giving your toast:

  • Practicing beforehand can help you feel more comfortable and confident when delivering your message.
  • Rehearsing helps you organize your thoughts and present a coherent and meaningful happy anniversary message.
  • Rehearsing beforehand will give you a sense of the length of your toast, allowing you to adjust your content to fit within the allotted time.

6. Sober Up

Overindulging in alcohol before giving a toast can lead to slurred speech, poor judgment, and embarrassing or offensive behavior.

Tips on how to avoid drinking too much before giving an anniversary toast:

  • Sip your drink slowly and take frequent breaks.
  • Set a limit for yourself and stick to it.
  • Don’t drink on an empty stomach.
  • Avoid high-alcohol drinks such as shots or strong cocktails. Instead, opt for drinks with a lower alcohol content, such as wine or beer.
  • Alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to stay hydrated and avoid becoming too intoxicated.

7. Be Respectful

Respecting the couple’s beliefs, values, and culture shows that you care about them and strengthens your relationship. Respect will also help you avoid sensitive topics or making offensive jokes that can ruin the mood.

Tips on how to avoid sensitive topics or offensive jokes during your toast:

  • Focus on positive aspects of the couple’s relationship. Talk about how they complement, make each other better, and bring out the best in each other.
  • Avoid politics and religion.
  • If you’re not familiar with the anniversary couple’s culture, take the time to do some research beforehand to avoid any unintentional cultural faux pas.

8. Toast To All

Everyone raises a toast at dinner table

Acknowledge all guests and their contributions to show appreciation for everyone who has taken the time to attend the celebration . It makes the guests feel valued and included in the event, making the celebration more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Encourage other speakers to include everyone in their toasts so that all guests can feel included and valued.

9. The Art Of Humor

Using humor appropriately and tastefully can add a touch of warmth to the toast and occasion. This will help to lighten the mood and create a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for all involved.

However, remember that humor can also be a double-edged sword, and if not used properly, it can detract from the sincerity and emotional impact of the toast.

Tips on how to use humor to enhance your toast without detracting from its sincerity:

  • When using humor in a toast, consider the audience and ensure that the jokes or anecdotes are appropriate and relatable to everyone.
  • Stick to good-natured jokes and anecdotes that will bring everyone a smile.
  • Use humor to highlight the positive aspects of the relationship, such as the couple’s shared sense of humor or their ability to weather tough times with a smile.
  • Keep the focus on the special people, and don’t let the jokes or anecdotes overshadow the sentiment of the toast.

10. Avoid TMI

Avoid embarrassing or overly personal details about the couple when giving your toast . While sharing funny stories or intimate details may be tempting, doing so can make the couple feel uncomfortable or embarrassed in front of their guests.

Focus on positive aspects of their relationship, such as their shared values and accomplishments as married couples.

11. End On A High Note

A strong and memorable conclusion can tie together the key themes and sentiments expressed throughout the toast, uplifting and inspiring the audience.

Tips on how to conclude anniversary messages with grace and enthusiasm:

  • Summarize the key points you made throughout your speech, highlighting the most important ideas and themes.
  • Thank everyone who played a role in making the special occasion.
  • Conclude your speech with a memorable quote or anecdote that reinforces the special day’s significance.

Most people would agree that public speaking isn't easy, and this is especially true when you're feeling the added pressure that comes along with giving a speech at a loved one's wedding. Not only do you have the attention of dozens (if not hundreds!) of guests you probably don't know, but you're also trying to appeal to a group of people in a wide range of ages from all different phases of the couple's lives. What's more, you want your speech to delight the couple of the hour and be as appealing to your group of friends as it to the newlyweds' grandparents. All in all, it's a tough task.

Before you panic, know that we're here to help. Ahead, we're sharing a comprehensive guide on what you should include in your speech , how to nail your delivery, and questions to consider to get the brainstorming process started—all from noteworthy speakers, well-established speechwriters, and wedding planners (who have seen it all).

Wedding Speech Template

Every great wedding speech has one thing in common: the right flow. Factor in these guidelines to help you find your own organic rhythm.

Open With a Statement or Question

Don't lead with a joke or a reference to how nervous you are. "The goal is to engage your audience, not make it a boring one-way message," says award-winning motivational speaker Jaime Pfeffer . "You'll lose them if you do this."

Introduce Yourself

After your opener, introduce yourself, says Fallon Carter , a wedding planner, even designer, and professional speaker. "A lot of times, people don't know who is speaking, and they don't know their relationship to the bride or the groom," she says. "It's really important to identify yourself, so make sure you've prepared something."

Address Your Audience

As speaker and life strategy coach Mark Black, CSP , points out, focusing on yourself only enhances nerves. "Instead, concentrate on your audience and how you want them to feel. This will help you to speak from the heart, allowing your speech to do what it's supposed to do: Make the couple feel special while also engaging the audience."

Focus on a Few Points

Seasoned speaker Susan Bender Phelps, CEO of Odyssey Mentoring & Leadership , says her top guideline is to select one to three aspects of the newlyweds that you love and appreciate, along with no more than three short stories to illustrate each of these points (or that one point). "The simple, succinct story or stories where the bride and groom are the hero will work best." This is an excellent way to structure your speech and keep your message focused.

How Long Wedding Speeches Should Be

The ideal length for a speech is three to five minutes, with five minutes being the absolute maximum you should speak for. That's it. "I’ve never been to a wedding where anyone said, 'That was a great wedding, but the best man speech was just too short and that  ruined  it,'" says David Litt , the speechwriter for former President Barack Obama and author of Thanks, Obama .

Carter agrees: "I always say anywhere between two and five minutes—and no more than five minutes," she says. "You want to keep things short and sweet." It's just as important to keep in mind when the speech will take place when determining length, since toasts are often timed with meal courses: "Be mindful of how long a course generally takes or how long it takes people to eat," Carter adds, noting that most courses last between 15 and 20 minutes and that several speeches have to fit inside each window. "If there are other people speaking, you want to be mindful and give them space."

Wedding Speech Tips

Now that you've established the right framework for your words, take note of these essential tips for acing the delivery from a few speaking pros.

Rehearse Regularly

The better prepared you are, the more confident you'll be and the better your speech will be, says author and professional speaker Barry Maher . A good rule of thumb is to practice the speech enough that you can remember the points you want to make and the order in which you want to make them. That way, you can look out to the crowd and make eye contact every so often.

Record Yourself Practicing

Use your phone to take a video of yourself practicing, suggests Kate Kenfield , speaker and sex educator. "It can be a little uncomfortable to watch yourself, but you'll be able to identify distracting mannerisms, such as the verbal pauses 'um,' 'uh,' and 'like'." It's also a good idea to practice your speech in front of someone else. "A second opinion can help you craft your piece and make it that much stronger," she says.

Don't forget body language! Rehearse the speech in front of a mirror and notice things like your facial expression, eye contact, and hand position.

Avoid Alcohol

Although it may be tempting to look for some liquid courage, alcohol definitely won't do you any favors, warns keynote speaker Amy Morin , author of 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do . "It may cause you to slur your speech and forget your lines, so wait until after your toast to celebrate," she advises. If you need a drink to loosen up the nerves or can't refrain from participating in a toast without being rude, stick to one glass of Champagne before you address the crowd.

Use Nerves to Your Advantage

A little nervousness can actually liven up your speech. "I get worried if I'm not a little nervous," says Maher. "I'll actually try to make myself a little tense to get my energy level up." The key is to harness that energy and communicate it in a positive, genuine way; tensing up to the point that you forget your words or panic won't make for a great presentation.

Be Yourself

Keep in mind that you're not putting on a show, only sharing your personal perspective. Trying too hard to force the funny can yield the opposite of the desired effect, cautions Matt Dalley, co-founder of Simply Eloped . "I've noticed that keeping it short and sweet, heartfelt and warm, and coming across as authentic and focused on the couple is something we are all capable of and generates some very wonderful moments," he says.

Never Embarrass the Newlyweds

It's a wedding toast, not a roast. While this should go without saying, keep the bachelor or bachelorette party jokes out of it, and remember that grandma and possibly a few colleagues are in the audience, notes Laurie Battaglia , a keynote speaker and workplace strategist. "It's okay to look back at childhood and refer to something funny, but ask yourself if you'd like 200-plus of your closest friends knowing that story about you."

Use Your Notes

Reading your speech straight from a piece of paper is a big no-no. However, having a couple of note cards handy is encouraged. "You're likely to be nervous, excited, and exhausted, which can make you forget your lines," explains Morin. "The audience won't care if you glance at your notes. In fact, there's a good chance they won't even notice."

Wedding Speech Brainstorm Ideas

Need some inspiration? Ask yourself these questions to get the brainstorming process going.

  • Who will speak before you? After you? How will this affect the content of your toast? (Perhaps you want to include a reference to their speech, thank them for an introduction, or introduce the next speaker).
  • Is there someone you should thank for making the event possible and inviting you to speak?
  • What would you want to hear in this speech if you were in the audience?
  • Is there a favorite story or memory that the couple would want you to share with their friends and family?

Wedding Speech Examples to Make Your Own

So, what does it look like when all these elements come together? Wedding vow and speechwriter Katelyn Peterson , owner and creator of Wedding Words , offered us three examples of successful toasts to inspire your own.

Maid of Honor Wedding Speech Example

"Hi, I’m Maya, the bride’s older sister . With Lucy being three years younger, we fell right into our respective roles as sister-rivals growing up. We constantly fought over stolen clothes, monopolizing the phone back when landlines were a thing, and what boy band to blare from the car speakers. I’m still Team Backstreet Boys while Lucy is forever indebted to NSYNC.

Looking back on those memories, I should have stepped up and granted Lucy permission to wear my favorite sweater for picture day, to hand her the phone once in a while, and to let her play, 'Bye Bye Bye.' Even I can admit that’s a good one. But despite Lucy being the younger sister, she has always been more patient, more accommodating, and more thoughtful than me. And that’s because when it comes to the people she loves, she’s all in.

She’s the one to prioritize their desires. She’s the one to compromise first. And, she’s the one to support their dreams as if they were her own.

This is why it makes me so happy to know that Lucy has found a home in David. He matches her in compassion, thoughtfulness, and warmth. And I know he’ll spend his life prioritizing her desires, being ready to compromise, and supporting her dreams as his own.

Cheers to Lucy and David! May you always feel loved because you always put each other first."

Best Man Wedding Speech Example

"Hello, everyone. My name is Luke and I’m the best man . I met Robert eight years ago when I became his neighbor. His reputation preceded him as I had heard about the 'Block Party King' before my closing papers were inked.

Rob has never been the guy to wear fancy clothes. In fact, I’m still in shock seeing him in that tux tonight. And he’s never been the guy to show off even though the work he’s put into his vintage Mustang could make Henry Ford himself envious.

But when it comes to cooking, he should receive an award. His pulled pork is a staple at our summer block parties and his homemade barbeque sauce has remained our neighborhood’s best-kept secret. But the most satisfying part about his delicious dishes is that there’s always plenty to go around. And Rob makes sure your plate is never empty. I have no idea how he pulls it off, but Rob has a covert ability to scoop seconds onto your plate without you ever seeing him do it. I hope you all came hungry tonight, folks. You’ve been warned!

The first time I met Jasmine I could immediately tell she was an amazing person. She laughed at his jokes which I never thought anyone would get. She supported his career and the nonstop travel involved. But most importantly, whenever we’re all hanging out, Jasmine is the one always topping off Rob’s plate with more pasta, more chicken, more of everything. When she’s around, it’s never empty.

And that’s when I saw what a perfect match they were for each other. I know they will always put each other first, make sure their needs are met, and will never allow the other to go hungry.

So let’s raise our glasses to toast the newlyweds! As you begin this next chapter together, may your plates and your hearts always remain full."

Father of the Bride Wedding Speech Example

"Good evening, family, and friends. I’m Daniel Lee, the father of the bride. I’d like to welcome you to this special occasion where we get to celebrate the love between my daughter Allison and her new wife, Kristin.

Standing up here today, I’m reminded of all the moments that led to this significant one. The dance recitals that ended with standing ovations and the soccer games that concluded with winning scoreboards.

But, while those were fun and rewarding times, those aren’t the moments I cherish most with Allison. The memories that make me smile the brightest are those in-between the big stuff moments. It’s the makeshift magic shows in our living room using a bedsheet that Allison confiscated from our linen closet to convert into a curtain. It’s the countless tea parties she hosted with exclusive invitations just for me and her beloved stuffed bear, Buttons. And it’s the way she’d beg to stay up for just five more minutes but was asleep on the couch by minute number two.

Those everyday, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments with Allison are the ones that gave color to my life and filled my heart with a happiness I never knew could exist.

So, my beautiful daughter, as you begin your life with Kristin today, I have one wish for you: May your warmest memories come from the ordinary moments throughout your marriage, and may those moments give you a reason to smile brighter every day. Cheers! I love you both." —Daniel

What Not to Say in a Wedding Speech

Your job when delivering a wedding speech is to keep things light—tell an anecdote, make an emotional connection, then wish the couple well before you close out. Anything that doesn't feel definitively positive should be avoided. "I would advocate against bringing up negative details, specifically past relationships or past spouses," says Carter. "Skip anything that you wouldn't want to be physically recorded and played over and over again—this is a rule of thumb."

Keep it light, delicate, and present- and future-focused, Carter adds. "If you're going to go into the past, make those stories really intentional," she says. "Bring those stories back to who they are now. Your mission is to create a great environment and vibe and to potentially give some information about one of the newlyweds, so that it's enlightening for all guests."

50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SPEECH TIPS

Giving a speech after 50 years of marriage would seem to be really easy, but expressing your emotions after 50 years doesn’t always get easier, sometimes it gets more difficult because the emotion becomes stronger, deeper, and more complicated.

speech on anniversary of marriage

Whether you are the husband or wife or a dear friend that would like to make a speech, it can be difficult to find the right words to say that encapsulate a love that has been able to withstand 50 years of marriage.

If You Are One of the Couple

If you are either the husband or the wife, you should thank all of the guests for coming to celebrate 50 years of marriage with you. You should then express your gratitude to your spouse for hanging in there with you for all of these years. Share a story or some feelings with your spouse and your friends and family about a particularly inspiring time, loving time, difficult time, or a moment of levity in the 50 years of marriage that you think is appropriate. You can present your spouse with a gift during your speech as well, which is a great way to end your golden anniversary speech!

Where to Start

Starting a speech can be very difficult, so the best way to start off is with a brief introduction of yourself if you are not the husband or the wife. For instance, you don’t need to give your entire background you can simply say, Hi, I’m Jane. I am a long time friend of Bill and Nancy and am so glad to be here today.î This will give the other guests that are at the party some idea of who you are and why you would want to give a speech at all!

What to Say

50 years of marriage, what do you say? If you are married, thank the couple for being an inspiration to you and your spouse. Thank them for sticking together and being two people that everyone could count on. You can tell the couple that you hope that your marriage can be as strong after 50 years as you know that theirs is now. If you have one, share a cute story that you think demonstrates the strength and beauty of the couple’s love. You can also present the couple with a gift, a framed picture, or a framed piece of scripture or a poem during your speech. The point of the speech is just to convey how happy you are for the couple for sticking together for 50 years, as well as to express what an inspiration they are to married people everywhere.

How to Close

Closing the speech can be the most difficult part after starting! The best thing you can do is say congratulations and that you hope to celebrate many more anniversaries, and thank them for sharing their day with you. The closing needn’t be anything extravagant, and there will likely be someone that will follow you in their congratulating the married couple for their 50th wedding anniversary.

When You Share an Anniversary With an Eclipse

A number of couples are choosing to marry during the upcoming total solar eclipse. Several cities in the path of totality are holding mass weddings.

A bride and groom reach up toward a solar eclipse. The bride is also raising a bouquet.

By Devorah Lev-Tov

When Zach Horrall, a social media specialist at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Corlan McCollum, a children’s librarian, got engaged two years ago, they wanted to connect their wedding to a larger event. At first, they considered Halloween, but when they realized Indianapolis was in the path of totality for the April 8, 2024, solar eclipse, they changed course.

The two are planning an outdoor wedding, with the ceremony timed to the approximately three minutes and 45 seconds of totality in the Indianapolis region. They hope their 75 guests will pay more attention to the eclipse than to them.

“It takes a little bit of the pressure off, because you’re also bringing people to experience the eclipse,” Mr. Horrall, 27, said. “They’re not just solely focused on you.”

Tying their wedding “to something like this makes it a bigger deal — like, yes, I will use this major celestial event for my wedding,” added Mr. McCollum, 21.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, entirely blocking the face of the sun and darkening the sky. The April 8 eclipse travels a path beginning in Mexico before entering the United States through Texas, going through parts of the Midwest and Northeast, and then exiting through eastern Canada.

While areas outside that path may see a partial eclipse, most people planning eclipse weddings are focused on the path of totality. During this time, stars can be seen, the temperature drops and solar prominences swirl out from behind the dark disc of the moon, creating a dramatic experience, according to Bob Baer, a specialist at the Carbondale School of Physics and Applied Physics at Southern Illinois University and the co-chairman of the Southern Illinois Eclipse 2017-2024 Steering Committee.

Mr. Horrall and Mr. McCollum, who are asking guests to wear either all black or all white in accordance with the eclipse theme, aren’t the only couple planning an eclipse wedding. And it’s not only couples planning private nuptials, either: Several cities in the path are holding mass weddings.

Rodney Williams, who is organizing a three-day eclipse festival in Russellville, Ark., aptly called Total Eclipse of the Heart, got the idea to add a wedding component from the city’s tourism logo, which features a heart.

“With all the other festivals taking place that day, I wanted something that would differentiate us,” said Mr. Williams, who owns a hot-air balloon business in Branson, Mo.

Russellville’s mass wedding, announced last July, has 332 couples registered. While Mr. Williams expects some no-shows — the wedding is free, minus the cost of a festival ticket and marriage license — it’s expected to be one of the largest eclipse mass weddings on April 8.

Planning to wed there are a couple from Memphis — Miriam Maxey, 34, a preschool teacher and yoga instructor, and Nick Demari, 39, a mobile app developer. Ms. Maxey was getting stressed by wedding planning when an ad for Russellville’s mass wedding popped up on her Facebook page.

“I was looking through the notes on my phone from last year and it said, ‘Remind yourself about the April 8 eclipse,’ but I had no idea I’d be getting married then,” said Ms. Maxey, who added that she and Mr. Demari are astronomy fans. “I wholeheartedly believe the energy is going to be big — like this magnetic, high-vibe energy.”

The small town of Tiffin, Ohio (population 17,765), will be the location for Seneca County’s Elope at the Eclipse event, a free mass wedding.

Bryce Riggs, the executive director of the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Destination Seneca County, said that by the time registration ended on March 29, 150 couples from across the country had signed up.

“I would say it’s 10 percent locals and then the rest is folks traveling in,” Mr. Riggs said. “We have a cumulative travel of 16,600 miles to the county to get married.”

The city of Akron, Ohio, which is in the path of totality, decided to do things a little differently. The Akron Municipal Court is offering a free eclipse wedding, officiated by Akron Municipal Court Judge David Hamilton at Cascade Locks Park, for the winners of its essay contest.

Kylie Thanasiu, 29, a registered nurse and stay-at-home parent, and Timmy Bryan, 29, who works in his family’s plastics business, are one of two winning couples. The pair, from Akron, met at age 16, bought a house five years ago and have a 14-month-old daughter named Rosie. Mr. Bryan proposed two years ago.

Ms. Thanasiu was perusing the courthouse website when she saw the contest and decided to enter.

“Part of why I chose it, aside from the amazing eclipse day, was because a lot of my family members will have the day off,” Ms. Thanasiu said. Schools and many businesses in Akron are closing on April 8 for the eclipse.

April 8 falls on a Monday — typically not a desirable wedding day — and yet there are nearly 750 weddings listed on The Knot, a wedding website. Compare that with Monday, April 10, 2023, when there were around 360 weddings listed. But another Monday in recent history also proved to be a popular wedding date, most likely for the very same reason. The last solar eclipse in North America was Aug. 21, 2017, and there were about 990 weddings listed on The Knot then.

Jim Cross, 67, a retired packaging industry consultant in Homosassa, Fla., proposed to Michelle Cross, 55, a retired postal worker, in 2015 and asked her to marry him on Aug. 21, 2017, in Greenville, S.C. While Mrs. Cross was initially perplexed by his specificity, she said yes. As a self-described “cosmologist enthusiast,” Mr. Cross was already anticipating the eclipse, and knew it would be a special day to get married.

“I put the two things I loved together the most, and that was Michelle and the cosmos,” Mr. Cross said. “I wanted to give her a wedding that would be hard to forget.”

Sagarika and Adam Ellenberger of Belle Mead, N.J., also wed on Aug. 21, 2017. They had decided on a destination wedding near Breckenridge, Colo., at Lake Dillon. Originally, they reserved Sapphire Point Overlook for Sunday, Aug. 20, but when Mrs. Ellenberger, 37, a clinical program manager for a biomedical research foundation, read about the eclipse, she realized it was happening the day after their wedding and that Lake Dillon was just outside the path of totality. The couple quickly adjusted the date.

“Everybody agreed afterward that they felt an amazing type of energy flow that occurred right after the ceremony,” said Mr. Ellenberger, 41, a pharmaceutical scientist. “It felt like nighttime during daytime, and I was really exhilarated the entire time.”

An earlier version of this article misstated the location of a free eclipse wedding being offered by the municipal court in Akron, Ohio. It is at Cascade Locks Park, not Cascade Valley Metro Park.

The title of the officiant, David Hamilton, was also misstated. He is an Akron municipal court judge, not a county court judge.

How we handle corrections

Our Coverage of the Total Solar Eclipse

Hearing the Eclipse:  A device called LightSound is being distributed to help the blind and visually impaired experience what they can’t see .

Maine Brac es Itself :  Businesses and planning committees are eager for visitors, but some in remote Aroostook County are not sure how they feel  about lying smack in the path of totality.

A Dark Day for Buffalo:  When the sky above Buffalo briefly goes dark  on the afternoon of April 8, the city will transcend its dreary place in the public consciousness — measured as it so often is by snowstorms — if only for about three minutes. The city can’t wait.

Under the Moon’s Shadow:  The late Jay Pasachoff, who spent a lifetime chasing eclipses , inspired generations of students to become astronomers by dragging them to the ends of the Earth for a few precarious moments of ecstasy.

A Rare Return:  It is rare for a total solar eclipse to hit the same place twice — once every 366 years on average. People in certain areas will encounter April 8’s eclipse  about seven years after they were near the middle of the path of the “Great American Eclipse.”

A Small City’s Big Plans:  Let the big cities have their eclipse mega-events. In Plattsburgh, N.Y., success looks different  for everyone stopping to look up.

No Power Outages:  When the sky darkens during the eclipse, electricity production in some parts of the country will drop so sharply that it could theoretically leave tens of millions of homes in the dark. In practice, hardly anyone will notice  a sudden loss of energy.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

With their 19th wedding anniversary fast approaching, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are gearing up to mark the occasion with a private celebration.

The pair, who tied the knot on April 9, 2005, will make the most of their special day despite major health woes plaguing the royal family at this time.

In fact, the pair will mark their anniversary with an intimate “romantic dinner,” according to the monarch’s former butler Grant Harrold.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla exiting St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle after Easter Matins Service

“I can’t believe it’s 19 years this year. I was there that day, in the church. They’ll celebrate it, but they’re not big [on celebrations],” Harrold said of the couple.

“They don’t have parties or anything like that at all. Maybe for 20 years, they will. But it’s normally marked privately between the two of them. I’m sure there’ll be a card and then a gift, very similar to the way that other people celebrate it.”

The pair’s special day will no doubt be more “emotional” and “poignant” this year than most, Harrold adds.

“I have no doubt they’ll be together for the occasion, and I’m sure behind closed doors, they’ll probably have a romantic dinner with just the two of them,” he shared of the pair, who tied the knot 35 years after they first met in 1970.

Charles, who is in the thick of his cancer treatment following his diagnosis in February , has been forced to hit the brakes on much of his royal agenda since news of his ailing health came to light.

“With the king’s treatment he might not have any other people there, so it is likely to be private between the two of them,” His Majesty’s former butler noted.

Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall in formal attire, leaving St George's Chapel in Windsor, England, after their wedding ceremony on April 9, 2005.

Harrold, who worked for the couple between 2004 and 2011, says the king and queen will receive “thousands” of cards from well wishers from across the globe on their anniversary.

“They get thousands. They can’t read them all, it’s impossible, you can’t send them hundreds of thousands of cards and think they’re going to see them all,” he said on behalf of Spin Genie .

“What happens, just to give people a bit of hope, is the cards go to the office and they do all get read.”

“As far as I know, as many as possible, as is sensible, get responded to,” he continued. “There is always a cross section that’s taken out and put separately and that cross section is then presented to the relevant members of the royal family to read.”

It comes as Harrold revealed that “workaholic” Charles has come to be “frustrated” over the current face of the monarchy after the Firm was forced to undergo a major reshuffle .

Anya Taylor-Joy Shares Photo of 'Anatomically Correct Heart Cakes' from Her Secret First Wedding Ceremony

The actress offered a glimpse on Instagram of her New Orleans nuptials, which took place in April 2022 ahead of the couple's second wedding in Venice in October 2023

Erin Clack is a Staff Editor for PEOPLE. She has been writing about fashion, parenting and pop culture for more than 15 years.

Anya Taylor-Joy is sharing a glimpse of her vampiric wedding cakes.

To celebrate two years of marriage with her musician husband, Malcolm McRae , the Dune: Part Two star, 27, posted intimate photos and video from her secret 2022 nuptials.

"Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever," she wrote on Instagram, before giving a sweet shout-out to McRae, 29. "Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest🫀."

"N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat," she joked, referring to a photo featuring two small heart-like cakes displayed on a white plate on either side of a pool of blood-red-colored fruit syrup.

On her Instagram Story, Taylor-Joy shared a clip of herself and McRae crossing arms with each other as they took their first bite of the cakes.

Also within her grid carousel, the Peaky Blinders star included a photo of herself walking through an old cathedral in a tan wedding dress embellished with flowers and birds and a long, floor-sweeping veil. "👗 beautifully embroidered with our love story by @dior ," she noted of her bridal look in her Instagram caption.

Another image showed Taylor-Joy sitting on a couch alongside McRae, Cara Delevingne and another wedding guest, with the four playfully enshrouded in her veil. A short video clip also captured the bride showing off her dress in the candlelit church.

McRae marked the couple's wedding anniversary with an Instagram post of his own. "I love you now and somehow I always have and somehow it will never end. Happy two year anniversary (yesterday), beautiful," he wrote, alongside a pair of wedding photos and a clip of himself and Taylor-Joy chatting and kissing.

Following their quiet New Orleans nuptials, the couple said "I do" all over again on a grander scale with a second celebration at the historic Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice last October. In photos obtained by the  Daily Mail at the time, Taylor-Joy could be seen standing on a balcony at the venue wearing her custom Dior gown.

Among the celebrity guests who attended the wedding were Delevingne, Evan Ross , Miles Teller , Nicholas Hoult and Julia Garner .

To cap off the weekend-long affair, a source told PEOPLE that Taylor-Joy and McRae enjoyed a terrace brunch on Sunday at the St. Regis hotel, with sweeping views of the Grand Canal.

The pair first met at the March 2021 premiere of Taylor-Joy's acclaimed Netflix series T he Queen's Gambit . Just days after, a clearly smitten McRae — who is a member of the band More — wrote an original song for The Menu star and shared clips of himself performing it on  Instagram .

“I wrote this song for Anya two days after meeting her," he wrote in the post's caption. "It’s called ‘Really Want to See You Again.’ "

A year later, in March 2022, the two made one of their first public appearances together at the CAA Pre-Oscar Party in Los Angeles.

In an April 2023 interview with  British Vogue , Taylor-Joy opened up about how she found her perfect match in McRae.

“I've finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading," she said.

“I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby. I see reading as something that I have to do. He loved it because he's the same," she continued. "We're basically 80 years old and 7 at the same time, and it works really well."

by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the occasion of NATO's 75th anniversary celebration with the Chair of the NATO Military Committee and Ministers of Foreign Affairs

  • 04 Apr. 2024 -
  • Last updated: 04 Apr. 2024 09:55

(As delivered)

Ministers,  Excellencies,  Dear Friends.

Today we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the strongest, most enduring and most successful Alliance in history. The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. NATO. Congratulations!   In the years following the Second World War,  the fear of yet another devastating war was real.    So on this day in 1949, the Foreign Ministers of twelve countries from Europe and North America,  came together to sign the Washington Treaty. To create our Alliance. It kept our people safe through the long years of the Cold War. From the Berlin Airlift and the Cuban Missile Crisis to the fall of the Berlin Wall.    In 1979, I served in the Norwegian army. If there was a war, we would be on the front line. But I was not afraid. Because I knew we were not alone. We had the might of the NATO Alliance behind us.   When the Cold War ended,  NATO helped to bring two brutal ethnic conflicts in the Balkans to a close.

In 2001, after 9/11 attacks, for the first time, we invoked Article 5 of the Washington Treaty,  which states that an attack on one Ally is an attack on all. NATO has been on the front line in the fight against terrorism ever since.

2014 and Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea was another turning point. Since then, we have undertaken the biggest reinforcement of our collective defence in generations. Today, NATO is bigger, stronger and more united than ever.   ***   In the beginning, we had 12 members. Today we are 32.  So we must be doing something right!   We have helped to spread peace, democracy and prosperity throughout Europe. And today, we also celebrate important anniversaries for many of our members.   ***

Two World Wars, the Cold War and every challenge we have faced since then, have taught us that we need each other.   Europe needs America for its security. Fair burden sharing is essential. And Europe is investing more. Much more. This year, the majority of NATO Allies will invest at least 2% of their GDP in defence.  At the same time, North America also needs Europe. European Allies provide world-class militaries, vast intelligence networks and unique diplomatic leverage. Multiplying America’s might. Through NATO, the United States has more friends and more Allies than any other major power.

I do not believe in America alone. Just as I don’t believe in Europe alone. I believe in America and Europe together. In NATO. Because, we are stronger and safer together.

This morning, Admiral Bauer and I laid the wreath at memorial stone here at the NATO Headquarters. To pay our respects to all those in uniform who have served under the NATO flag. And remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We honour them. And their lasting contribution to peace and freedom for us all.

***  Dear friends, As we mark the 75th anniversary,  we have the great privilege of having our founding treaty with us.  For the very first time at the NATO Headquarters. It’s just in front of me. You can watch it afterwards.   That’s the Washington Treaty, the original and I like the Washington Treaty. Not least because it is very short, Just 14 paragraphs over a few pages.

Never has a single document with so few words, meant so much to so many people. So much security, So much prosperity, And so much peace.   All because of its solemn promise. That we stand together, And protect one another. As we have for 75 years.   Thank you and happy anniversary!  Thank you.
