A Village Fair Essay

100 Words Essay on a Village Fair

India has a large number of villages, notwithstanding the rapidly occurring urbanisation. A village fair is one that takes place within the community. It is a customary event in rural life, and often a place to unwind for those living in the villages. Village fairs, usually held annually, are held in the marketplace or in an open space. What is the purpose of a village fair? Here, villagers can buy toys, wooden utensils, clay pots, baskets, cosmetics, and more. These local fairs offer some unique attractions. Circus parties, jatra parties, puppet performances, magic shows, etc. are among the most alluring offerings. Both kids and adults have fun here.

200 Words Essay on a Village Fair

A village fair is a time of amusement for the villagers and a time away to unwind from their monotonous routine. A village fair helps small-scale trade flare up their business, encourages the local industry and agriculture to grow more. Village fairs usually have temporary markets put up where the shops sell sweets, fruits, and toys. Often, there are hawkers selling various items like those for household or personal use. Children often purchase things like toys and kites. People relish sweets like ice cream, kulfi, faluda, and more in village fairs. However, the attending villagers often need to stay careful since pickpockets taking advantage is a common occurrence in such crowded events.

The most anticipated event is a village fair, especially for children. Village fairs are like exhibitions with a lot of hustle and bustle. Weavers, artisans, blacksmiths, and carpenters often set up stalls at village fairs to sell their products and earn money. For the people of the village, a village fair is a source of enjoyment. Village fairs are an indispensable part of village life and culture. It offers not only the village where it is held, but also the adjacent communities, great entertainment options. Visitors to the fair from nearby and distant villages could be seen coming with their families and friends.

500 Words Essay on a Village Fair

Festivals and fairs abound throughout India. A village fair is a typical celebration of village life. Rural fairs still have historical value, despite the fact that they have steadily become less common owing to the influence of contemporary culture and technology.

Village fairs come as a good break to the monotonous routines of the villagers, who are often excited about them. Children enjoy sweets, and buy toys and balloons at these fairs. Both children and adults participate in games. Often, village fairs have swings and other rides that can be enjoyed by everyone alike. Jugglers perform feats and entertain audiences. A village fair also features items from cottage industries, wooden furniture, agricultural implements, etc., which greatly appeals to adults.

How is a Village Fair?

The entire fair is filled with the chatter of rural people discussing news and opinions about their village. It serves as a gathering place for people of neighbouring villages as well. Everyone is dressed to the nines in their finest attire. Women wear dazzling "dupattas" with sequin or zari work, colourful matching blouses, swirling long skirts, silver anklets that jingle on their feet, and silver bangles. In addition to the children being dressed in their brightest attire, the males also wear colourful shirts and dhotis.

Another prime attraction of a fun fair is different rides and Ferry Wheels. Miniature trains, vehicles, and horses make up the majority of the rides at a fair that are intended for children. The rides are usually painted with bright colours and adorned with lights of different colours to enhance their appearance at night. Apart from the fun activities, a fun fair has various food stalls for the children and their elder companions.

The fair's area is decorated by vibrant tents housing a variety of entertaining events, including magic shows, circus acts, stunts, and movies, among others. There are open booths for games like Throw the Ring, Air Gun Shooting, and dart shooting. Anyone who throws a ring precisely over a far-off item in such a manner that the object lands inside the ring has a chance to win a reward in the game "Throw the Ring." The winner receives the item as their reward.

Similarities Between City and Village Fairs

A village fair is similar to the fairs held in our cities, with the exception that the goods sold are tailored to the requirements and preferences of the villagers. There are stalls with a variety of goods for sale. Food stands are often the busiest, both in city and village fairs. Vendors sell various household items like "matkas," pots and pans, tiny colourful boxes for holding trinkets or medicines, and so on. Other items include clay or aluminium kitchenware. Women can often be seen bargaining and buying things that catch their attention.

My Visit to a Village Fair

Last year, I went to the Baisakhi fair in my native village. Many people from nearby villages attended the fair. Everyone appeared to be in a festive mood. Their laughter had no bounds and there was a lot that intrigued and attracted me. The locals were dressed in beautiful attire. The kids were ecstatic in every way. All around, people were laughing. The villagers sang traditional songs. I had a good time while dancing to the sound of drums.

There was a lot of excitement and commotion. The marketplace was crammed. Jugglers and rope dancers were present. They entertained the locals by performing feats and tricks. I loved the swings and my favourite were the merry-go-rounds. The fair was a medley of sounds and sights. I came across dance performances and also a wrestling match and a juggler's show. In the evening, there were races and matches. Prizes were awarded to the winners. At nightfall, the crowds began to disperse with armfuls of sweets and toys. I had a great time.

Composition: A Festival in My Village, Vocabulary Development: Prefixes

Back to: ENGLISH LANGUAGE JSS1

Welcome to class!

In today’s class, we will be talking about vocabulary development, etc. Enjoy the class!

Guided Composition (Narrative)

A festival in my village.

I was born in Ha Nam, a province in the North of Vietnam. I am always proud of my hometown with hard-working and kind farmers. I feel most proud of my village because of the many traditional festivals that take place every year. One of the most important festivals in my village is “Village Festival”. “Village Festival” takes place every two years to remind people in the village of the god of the village who built the village. People often call the god of the village as “Thanh Hoang Lang”. This festival takes place on the full-moon day of February. There are three parts of the” Village Festival”.

The first part of the festival that children are the most eager is lifting the palaqueen and lion dances. On the day of the Village Festival, children often get up early, wearing beautiful clothes. Then they go to the communal house of the village to wait for the palaqueen. About 7 o’clock, all of the people in the village gather on two sides of the road to see the palaqueen pass. It is believed that children who go under the palaqueen on this day will have good health and will study very well. At 8 a.m., the palaqueen starts being raised from the village to the village.

The palaqueen is raised by eight people. Always the old people in the traditional costume go in front of the palaqueen and they both go and spread things like coins, pink candles. My grandma told me that people who pick the pink candles are very lucky. They often put the candles in front of their children’s bed. It is thought that the light of the pink candle will make their children more intelligent and healthier. Therefore they try to get the pink candles. Lion dances are also followed by the palaqueen. The procession lasts for more than an hour.

After the procession, people in the village: the old, the young and children move to the river in the village quickly to see the next part of the Village Festival called “traditional games”. Traditional games are the most interesting part of the Village Festival, so villagers always wait for this activity. There are a lot of traditional games that take place in this part such as boat race, tug of war and wrestling… One of the most interesting games in the Village Festival is the racing boat. There are five teams which present the fives villages.  It is a very proud thing for any village to win the competition.

Therefore, every village chooses the strongest man to join the boat race competition. In this game, competitors sit on an imperial boat, a boat has the form of a dragon decorated with different colours. The captains who stand at the head of the boat order their team to sail the boat quickly. As soon as the sound of the drum starts, all team begin sailing as fast as they can. Along two sides of the river, viewers are shouting for encouragement for their home team. The louder the sound of yelling and shouting of fans is, the more quickly the competitors sail. People who watch at two sides of the river run after the boat to encourage their team.

The team which sails to the finish the most quickly will be the winner of the game. It is a big pride of the village for the team who gets the first prize. Besides the boat race, the traditional games like tug of war, rice- cooking and wrestling are also seen by most people in the village. The activities of the traditional games finish at about 1 p.m in the afternoon.

The last part of Village Festival is celebrated in the communal house yard after the traditional games.

When the traditional games finish, villagers gather in front of the communal house yard to eat a traditional meal and to see which teams get prizes in traditional games. From early in the morning, the women in the village prepare necessary materials to cook the meal. Often women in the village who are good at cooking will be chosen to cook for the Village festival. About noon all the food is shown carefully and spectacularly on the tables in the communal house yard. On Village festival day the communal house becomes more crowded. This is a special occasion for people in the village to meet and talk together about their work as well as the harvest.

Firstly, the results of the traditional games in the morning are announced by the leader of the village. Most people are waiting to hear which teams win the first prize. It is the pride of the village that wins the first prize. The winners in the traditional games last year will award the prize for the winners this year. Then people sit on their seats eating the meal. They both eat and talk happily. After the meal, people gather to hear the women in the village sing folk songs The Village festival lasts until early in the evening.

Despite the impact of the industrialization, the Village Festival is still celebrated as the cultural and traditional beauty of my village. It reminds the young generation of the tradition and originality.

Different Types of Indian Festivals

India is well known for its cultural and traditional festivals all over the world. As it is a secular country full of diversity in religions, languages, cultures and castes, every month, some festival celebration happens. Among these festivals, some are religious, some are based on the seasons and some are of national importance. Each and every festival is celebrated uniquely in different ways according to the various rituals and beliefs. Each festival has its own history, legend and significance of the celebration. Festivals bring bonding, love, cross-cultural exchange and happiness among people.

National Festivals

Festivals and fairs are significant parts of Indian cultural life. Some of the festivals are celebrated at a national level, whereas others are at a regional level. National festivals such as Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated by people of all religions across the entire nation. These festivals fill us with great pride and remind us of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to make India independent and free from British rule. The whole nation unites together to celebrate these festivals and the spirit of togetherness, patriotism and nationalism can be found everywhere.

Religious Festivals

There are some religious festivals which are celebrated as a whole by different communities.

These include Diwali, Dussehra, Rakhsha Bandhan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Zuha, Christmas, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc., which are accompanied by religious rituals of one kind or the other. These traditional festivals have two aspects. One is worship which is performed according to specific religious norms. Another is composite culture, as the members of any community can participate in and celebrate these religious festivals. Thus, our festivals represent unity and encourage social bonding.

Seasonal Festivals

In India, most festivals are seasonal in nature. They announce the change in the season and mark the harvesting seasons. All the seasonal festivals are celebrated during two harvesting seasons, Kharif and Rabi. Besides, spring is another period of seasonal festivals. In Punjab, the Lohri festival indicates the harvesting of the winter crop. Pongal, Bihu and Onam celebrations mark the harvesting of paddy crops. Similarly, Holi and Baisakhi are celebrated to mark the harvesting of new rabi crops. Thus, these festivals symbolise the arrival of joy and wealth to farmers’ lives.

It is said that the “Greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals”. India has proved this saying as a variety of festivals are celebrated with full joy and happiness across the country. Different cultures and religions get tied together in bonds of love with invisible threads of celebrations. That’s why India is also known for unity in cultural diversity. Festivals teach us how to fight evil and falsehood and establish the truth. The festivals are marked by fervour, hope, and prayers for a better tomorrow.

Introduction

In India festival time is awaited all year round particularly by the students. They look forward to the festivals owing to various reasons. One of the main reasons for this is that the schools and colleges are closed during the festivals and this offers a respite from the mundane routine and strict study schedule. Students also love festivals as it is time to meet their cousins and relatives who bestow them with gifts. Besides, they get to eat a lot of delicious sweets and wear new dresses.

Celebrations in Schools/Colleges

Festivals in India are not only celebrated at home with family but are also celebrated in schools and colleges. The usual classroom sessions are replaced by fun activities on these days. Cultural programs and other interesting activities form a part of the festive celebrations in schools and colleges. Students as well as teachers participate in these activities whole heartedly and the entire atmosphere is filled with joy and laughter.

These celebrations are usually done a day before the festival as it is a holiday on the day of the festival.

Indian festivals are a reflection of the culture of the country. The celebrations held on the festivals acquaint the students with the culture and tradition of our country. Each festival has a religious connotation and a tradition attached to it. Festival time is a great opportunity to make the students understand about the cultural roots of our country and help them connect with it.

Indian festivals are thus important for the students in more than one way. These are a great way to bond with the near and dear ones and also to know about the country’s rich cultural past.

Essay on Importance of Festivals in India – Essay 3 (400 words)

Indians give special importance to their festivals. Be it regional festivals or national festivals – all the festivals in our country are celebrated with love and joy. There is holiday in schools, colleges and offices on most of these festivals.

Religious Connotation Renders Importance to Festivals

The importance of festivals in India can very well be seen in the way these are celebrated. People do not only celebrate festivals at home but also visit their near and dear ones to celebrate them together. The celebrations are also done in schools and workplaces. Our culture holds high regard for religious practices. People in India are mostly God fearing.

Since, the Indian festivals have certain religious connotations attached to them, Indians celebrate these with all their heart to please their deities and bring in positivity and happiness in their life. For instance, Diwali is celebrated to celebrate Lord Rama’s return to his home town, Ayodhya. Janamashtmi celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, Durga Puja is celebrated to offer prayers to Goddess Durga and her various avtars and Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to offer prayers to Lord Ganesha.

Festival Time is Considered Auspicious

Festival time is considered to be auspicious as per the Hindu religion. This is another reason why people give so much importance to this time. They wait for this time to start anything new in life so as to begin on a good note. For instance, people believe moving to new house during Navratras or on the occasion of Diwali brings in good luck, similarly joining a new job during the Ganesha festival or on Makar Sankranti can prove to be good for them.

Similarly, many other festivals such as Baisakhi, Guru Purnima, Pongal, Maha Shivratri, Rama Navami, Basant Panchami and Akshaya Tritiya are considered highly auspicious and are specially awaited to begin with something new such as buying a new shop, starting a business, signing a big business deal, fixing wedding date, etc.

All three national festivals of India are given special importance. The whole country gets immersed in patriotism during this time. These festivals are celebrated in full swing across the country. Thus, festivals hold high importance for Indians. Whether they live in India or abroad, Indians give special importance to their festivals and celebrate them with joy and happiness.

Essay on India is a Land of Festivals – Essay 4 (500 words)

India is often called the land of festivals because of the numerous colourful and joyous festivals celebrated here. People belonging to different castes, culture and tradition reside in different parts of our country. Each religion has its set of festivals based on its religious beliefs.

The people belonging to the south have their own festivals; people from the north give importance to some other festivals while those living in the East celebrate some other festivals. However, there are certain festivals that are celebrated throughout the country with equal enthusiasm. Some such festivals include Diwali, Holi and Raksha Bandhan.

Main Festivals of India

The main festivals of India are the ones that people belonging to all the religions and regions in our country look forward to and celebrate with great fervour. Here are some of these festivals:

Diwali is one of the main festivals of our country. People celebrate it with great joy and enthusiasm. The preparation for its celebration begins almost a month before the festival. People clean their houses and shop for decorative items to deck up their place. The houses are decorated with lights, candles and diyas. People make rangolis, worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and burn fire crackers to celebrate this festival. The entire country lights up on this day.

Holi is the festival of colour. It is one of the most fun-filled Indian festivals. Though it has a religious connotation to it, the whole purpose on this day is to have fun and let lose. People apply colour on each other and eat sweets. This festival is celebrated collectively in housing societies and residential colonies.

People gather around to colour each other and throw water on one another as a part of Holi celebration. Loud music is played at most places and people groove to the beats of foot tapping songs as they enjoy this festival. At some places, people even beat each other with sticks and throw mud on each other as a tradition.

  • Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is yet another Indian festival which is celebrated all across the country. This festival is celebrated to strengthen the brother-sister bond. Sisters visit their brothers on this day and tie rakhi on their wrist. The brothers in turn promise to protect their sisters and be there for them in the hour of need. This is followed by exchange of sweets. The brothers also bring special gifts for their sisters on this day. Those who cannot visit each other send rakhi and gifts via post.

This is indeed a beautiful tradition which is being followed since ages. There are many mythological stories behind the celebration of Raksha Bandhan. This is not only a time for the brothers and sisters to bond but is also a time to strengthen the familial ties. The celebration takes place early in the morning and it is followed by family brunch.

Ganesh Chaturthi, Janamashtmi, Navratri, Eid Ul Fitr, Baisakhi, Onam, Pongal, Bihu, Gurupurab, Navratri, Guru Purnima, Ram Navami, Vasant Panchami, Durga Puja, Chhath and Dussehra are among some of the other festivals that are celebrated with immense zeal in different parts of India with some of these being specific to a particular region. No wonder, our country is called a land of festivals.

Long Essay on Indian Festivals and Religious Beliefs – Essay 5 (600 words)

Indian festivals are based on religious beliefs. Indians worship various Gods and Goddesses and the various festivals they celebrate are dedicated to one deity or the other. These festivals are a way to offer prayers to the deities and seek their blessings to bring in happiness, prosperity and love.

Indian Festivals Based on Religious Beliefs

Here are some of the Indian festivals and the religious beliefs attached to them:

It is believed that it was the day when Lord Rama killed Ravana to free Sita from his clutches. It marks the victory of the good over the evil. Huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath are burned in different parts of the country on this day to celebrate the occasion.

Diwali or Deepawali is said to be the day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman after an exile of 14 years. The entire town was lit with diyas to welcome them. The occasion is celebrated until today. Each year, people clean their houses and deck them up with lights, diyas and candles to celebrate the return of Lord Rama.

Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped during the evening hours on this day as it is believed that this brings in prosperity and good luck.

The auspicious nine days of Navratras are dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is said that Goddess Durga was created jointly by Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and was bestowed with power by all these Gods to render strength to her. She was created to kill demon Mahishasura who had been killing innocent people. Goddess Durga fought with him for nine days and beheaded him on the tenth day. This again was the battle between the good and evil and it was the good that emerged victorious.

People observe fast during navratras and worship different avatars of Goddess Durga each day to seek her blessings.

  • Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to rejoice the birth day of Lord Ganesha. The festivities continue for ten days. It is believed that Lord Ganesha comes to Earth during these days every year and spreads joy everywhere. His devotees believe that whoever worships Lord Ganesha during these days is freed from all the problems and negativity in life.

Idols of Lord Ganesha are brought home and prayers are sung in his praise every day. These idols are then immersed in river on the last day of the pooja.

  • Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is another major Hindu festival. It is known by different names in different parts of the country. In Assam it is known by the name Bihu, in Tamil Nadu it is referred to as Pongal, in Gujarat it is called Uttarayan and in Bengal it is known as Poush Parbon.  The day is extremely auspicious for the Hindus. It is believed that taking holy dip in the sacred river Ganga on this day can help get rid of all the bad deeds and cleanses ones aura.

  • Karva Chauth

This is mostly celebrated in North India. On this day, women observe fast for the long life of their husbands. It is believed that fasting on this day pleases God who renders good health and long life to the husbands. Women don’t eat or drink anything during the day. They dress up traditionally during the evening and perform pooja. They have food and water only after seeing the moon at night.

Similarly, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Lord Krishna, Maha Shivratri is celebrated to offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Gurpurab is celebrated to rejoice the birth of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru.

Apart from the National festivals of India, all the other festivals have some religious beliefs tied to them. On these festivals, people offer prayers to their deities, wear ethnic clothes and make merry with their near and dear ones.

Essay on Life in an Indian Village

The villages are the souls of our country, and more than 60% of the population lives in villages. There are more villages and small towns in India than in metropolitan areas. Census 2011 reports the number of villages in our country is 6,49,481. In this essay on Life in an Indian Village, we will further explore the life one leads in a village and how it is different from city life and the advantages and disadvantages of the same.

Short Essay on Life in an Indian Village

The villages of India are major contributors to agriculture, thus making India an agricultural land. Life in an Indian village is called rural life and city life is considered urban life. Life in an Indian village for students and children is different from those growing up in urban households. The children are often led to their family occupation of agriculture and work as farmers. Farmers are the most undervalued people in our society. They work doubly hard to supply food on our plates and don't even get paid half of what they deserve. They work without any modern machines, for long days starting even before sunrise and end their days long after dusk. They toil in the scorching heat and in the rain. The most difficult aspect of a farmer's life is mostly dependent on climatic conditions. Also, one of the other ways of earning a living in the villages is by housing cattle like cows, sheep, goats, and poultry.

People's attraction to rural life

The agricultural lands and open fields and rustic lifestyle makes the villages more scenic and peaceful. People living in metropolitan areas often go on holidays to such scenic countryside locations where they can breathe fresh air due to its unpolluted environment. The village life is slower and not steadfast, unlike the city life, this is one of the main reasons for millennials now who when on holiday from work prefer this kind of lifestyle for a short period of time and take such breaks. On the other hand, organic food has now gained much popularity and this also encourages others to adapt to the countryside way of living where one eats more nutritious food and lives a healthier lifestyle.

Long Essay on Life in an Indian Village

Life in an Indian Village for Students and Children

There are other aspects of living in an Indian village where one has to deal with scarcity on a regular basis. Scarcity, be it lack of electricity, good connecting roadways, transportation; homes built with mud or clay which can be unreliable, along with lack of proper healthcare facilities. Life in an Indian Village for Students and Children is especially hard as along with the aforementioned problems, they are also deprived of basic education, due to which they lack career opportunities.

In some parts of India, there is only one primary school that children from the nearby villages attend. Even gaining primary education is very difficult because the parents are not very keen to send their children, especially girls and want them to join them in their family's line of occupation to earn some extra money for their livelihood and girls are held back from attending school as they are required to support their mothers in household chores.

The importance of primary and secondary education should be spread in villages, highlighting the fact that it creates several career opportunities for both boys and girls. There is not much growth in the agricultural sector as well due to lack of education and training in modern ways to enhance the agricultural produce.

Cultural & Traditional Values

Unlike the cities, the villagers don't live their lives secluded; they enjoy getting together, living like a close-knit family, and helping each other in adversities. This sense of community and belonging is greatly valued. Even with so many problems, life in an Indian village is one to look forward to, as the Indian culture is very much intact and the celebrations are huge. When all as a community celebrate together, with folk music, dance, and songs, all festivals are celebrated with a lot of zeal, especially the harvest season. India should take pride in such rich culture and traditions.

In Life in Indian Village Essay, it is also important to explore the advantages and disadvantages of leading such a life.

Advantages of Life in an Indian Village

One experiences a stress-free life surrounded by beautiful nature and leads a happy life in the Indian villages.

The air is pure and fresh due to low levels of pollution and no release of harmful gases as their mode of transport is usually a bicycle or a bullock cart.

Life in an Indian Village is a healthy one as one is always doing some chore which keeps one fit and the seasonal fruits and vegetables grown naturally in the villages keep one energized.

Disadvantages of Life in an Indian village

Lack of good infrastructure, lack of schools and well-trained and experienced teaching staff hinder the progress of the few children who attend the school.

It is very difficult to break old customs and traditions and change the mindset of the elders of the family, who are usually the decision-makers and their rigid attitude makes it harder for newer generations of children.

The villages are in dire need of basic amenities like hygienic sanitation facilities, electricity, etc.

Many such issues can be resolved when the government, along with citizens, take accountability and encourage education, especially in agriculture and farming, as it is the main occupation in villages and in ways to incorporate modern technology with traditional tools. With the help of many government programs that can primarily focus on the building of schools and hospitals, education could help them earn a living which will eventually lead to a reduction in the poverty rate and increase productivity, thus increasing the GDP of our country.

In today's world, most of the people from villages leave their homes and move to cities to either study or earn a living. But the fact is life in the village area is actually enjoyable and more peaceful than in any other metropolitan city. Villages have a natural beauty to them, and they are simple, calm yet beautiful. The people living in the villages mostly go to the fields to earn their daily living, they are generally hardworking and their day starts very early than most other people living in the cities or town. They work hard in the field the whole day and just get some rest when it is dawn.

The one most relaxed thing about villages is that they are free from the heavy traffic of city life. Villages are found to be more peaceful, calm, quiet, and full of greenery, where one can always breathe fresh air and stay healthy without any pollution problems. Most of the handcraft labor people are from villages such as farmers, other works as potters, carpenters, blacksmiths, etc. The Bulls are used for farming and other activity in the field and, are also considered as their sacred god since they are the ones who help in ploughing the field, cultivating crops, and earning money for them.

[ 1. Occasion and place; 2. Purpose; 3. Description—shops, crowds, etc; 4. Amusements; 5. Impressions.]

It was the last day of Poush. The harvesting was over, the granaries were full. Huge fields greet our eyes. There the fair was organized.

A village fair needs no advertisement. Everyone knows when and where it will be held. The purpose is to buy and sell things and to celebrate a holiday with joy. The artisans, the weavers, the farmers would come with their goods. They would display their skill and craftsmanship.

Preparations start a month before the festival. The ground is cleared. Bamboo posts with the thatched roofs are put up in rows. Each stall is nicely decorated. There is one row of agricultural goods and tools; in another row, agricultural and horticultural products, vegetables, and flower plants and saplings are on display.

A portion of the field is set aside for recreation. There are merry-go-rounds. In a huge pandal, cinema films, theatres, magic shows, and folk songs follow one after another, night after night.

A fair is held chiefly for trade. The amusements make business pleasant. But it has also an educational side. We learn much from it.

I like to visit such a fair with interest. Fairs are generally held in places of worship or birthplaces of great poets. Poush-Mela of Santiniketan has now an India-wide attraction.

an unexpected gift essay 250 words

Writing Riot

Unexpected Gift – Eric, Grade 7

Unexpected Gift

I was in my room playing video games when suddenly my mom announced that Christmas was arriving soon and that we all had to buy presents for the family. I knew what it meant. It meant that we had to go shopping. Each year if my mom wanted something, I had to get it for her. My presents never went over $40, while my mom’s went close to $100. This year, though, something unusual happened like an elephant eating a crocodile. My mom actually told me how much she wanted me to spend on her gift!

“$50 this year,” she shouted from the kitchen.

“$50 should be OK,” I sighed reluctantly, “including tax.”

“K,” she replied with a smile.

We went to Markville Mall. At Walmart, I bought some books and a pair of headphones. I was thinking of saving money for an iPhone, but my mom literally wasted my $50 on a pair of earrings. They were pretty, but I thought she should have used my money on something worthy. The reason I say it is that she has a lot of earrings at home, and she never wears them. She just buys them and wears them for a week and never wears them ever again.

The next day I went to my grandparents’ house, and they said that they were taking me to Markville Mall. I wondered why we were going there again. I had just been there the day before, and now I was going there again! We got into  the car and drove straight onto the highway. In a matter of minutes, we arrived. I ran as fast as the flash to the Apple Store and looked at the iPhones, and my grandparents followed. I didn’t know what my grandparents were up to since I had started playing a few addictive games on the iPads.

Suddenly, I remembered a few nights before I had heard my mom talking to my grandma about my grades on the report card. She said that I had done really well, in fact way over her expectations. My grandma was very happy and told my mom that she was getting me something as a gift, which I didn’t take seriously at the time.

At home, I decided to take a shower. As I was walking into the bathroom, I heard my grandma calling my mom and saying something about a cell phone. I cut my shower short as I was curious to know what was going on. After my shower, I immediately went to my bedroom. There was a wrapped box lying on my laptop. It was shiny and had many different colours on it, red, orange, yellow, blue, and green. It had snowman pictures on the back and read “Congratulations.” “What would it be?” I thought. Then I thought to myself, instead of wasting all this money on little gifts, if everyone had given the money to me, I would have been able to buy myself an iPhone. So very reluctantly, I decided to rip it open. But much to my surprise, I found an iPhone 5s in the box. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I almost cried and set it up immediately. I had a hard time focusing on what I was doing, and my tears dropped all over the phone.

On that day, I found out that if I worked hard and did something well, my achievement would be noticed, and I would be rewarded by my parents and grandparents. I also learned I should not make rash judgments about people.

That night, I hugged my grandparents and thanked them so much for their wonderful gift. My grandma told me, “If you work hard, you will have a bright future.” So that is why I am heartened to aim for the best in school next year as well.

An unexpected gift

Sameer my friend had just returned from his vacation in Australia. His Dad had gifted him the Play Station III, Nike shoes and a casio keyboard. Sameer’s mom gave me a box of Australian candy and soon Sameer and I got busy playing on the play station.

I kept wondering how lucky Sameer was that his Dad lived in Australia. My Dad couldn’t afford to get us expensive gifts, so a trip to Australia would always be just a dream. When I was leaving Sameer followed me holding a tee shirt with a kangaroo on it. He said, “Here! Take this, it’s for you, so what if you can’t go to Australia, Australia can come to you”.

It was the most wonderful gift I could have received. I immediately put it on. Imagine having a kangaroo on my chest although I have never been to Australia. I refused to change the tee shirt the whole day.

Essay on An Unforgettable Journey

Students are often asked to write an essay on An Unforgettable Journey in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on An Unforgettable Journey

The beginning of the journey.

My unforgettable journey began when I boarded a train to visit my grandparents. The bustling station, filled with people, was exciting.

The Traveling Experience

On the train, I met different people. We shared stories, food, and laughter. The changing landscape outside was mesmerizing.

The Arrival

As I arrived, my grandparents’ warm welcome filled my heart with joy. Their small town had its unique charm.

This journey was unforgettable because of the people I met, the sights I saw, and the experiences I had. It taught me to appreciate the beauty of life.

250 Words Essay on An Unforgettable Journey

The prelude: a journey begins.

Every journey has a story, and every story has a protagonist. In this case, the protagonist was me, a college student yearning for an adventure. I embarked on a journey that was not just about traversing geographical distances but also about self-discovery.

The Adventure: Embracing the Unknown

My journey began in the bustling city of Mumbai and led me to the serene landscapes of Ladakh. The stark contrast between the two places was as different as day and night. The city’s chaos was replaced by the tranquility of mountains, and the skyscrapers were replaced by towering peaks. The journey was not smooth; there were unexpected challenges and hurdles, but they only added to the thrill.

The Epiphany: Lessons Learnt

The journey taught me resilience, patience, and the ability to appreciate the little things in life. It made me realize how insignificant our daily worries are in the grand scheme of things. The journey unveiled the raw beauty of nature and the simple lifestyle of the locals, which was a stark contrast to the materialistic life in the city.

The Aftermath: An Unforgettable Journey

The journey was not just about the destination; it was about the experiences, the people, and the lessons learned. It was an unforgettable journey that left an indelible mark on me. It was a journey that transformed me, a journey that I will carry in my heart forever. It was indeed an unforgettable journey, a journey of a lifetime.

In conclusion, every journey is a story waiting to be told, and every story is a journey waiting to be taken. It’s the journey, not the destination, that shapes us.

500 Words Essay on An Unforgettable Journey

The prelude to the journey.

Every journey is a mosaic of experiences, a tapestry of memories woven together over time. One such unforgettable journey that left an indelible mark on my life was a trekking expedition to the Himalayas.

Embarking on the Adventure

The journey began with an overnight train ride from Delhi to a small town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. As the train chugged along, the urban landscape gradually gave way to the serene beauty of the countryside. The excitement was palpable, not just for the destination, but also for the journey itself.

The trek was a test of endurance, courage, and perseverance. The terrain was treacherous, the weather unpredictable, and the altitude sickness a constant threat. But the sight of the majestic mountains, the sound of the bubbling streams, and the smell of the fresh mountain air made it all worthwhile. Every step taken was a step closer to self-discovery, every challenge faced a lesson in resilience.

The Epiphany

The pinnacle of the trek was an ethereal sunrise from the summit. As the first rays of the sun kissed the snow-capped peaks, the world seemed to stand still. It was a moment of profound clarity, a realization of our insignificance in the grand scheme of things, and yet, a recognition of our potential to conquer our fears and overcome our limitations.

The Descent and Beyond

The descent was no less challenging, but the sense of accomplishment and the memories made along the way made it easier. The journey was not just about reaching the summit, but also about the bonds forged, the friendships nurtured, and the stories shared. It was a journey of self-discovery, of pushing boundaries, and of finding joy in the journey itself.

Reflecting upon this unforgettable journey, I realized that it was a microcosm of life itself. Just like the trek, life is full of ups and downs, challenges and triumphs. It is not the destination, but the journey that shapes us, that defines us. It is the experiences we gather, the lessons we learn, and the memories we make that truly matter. This unforgettable journey was a testament to the fact that it is not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves.

In conclusion, an unforgettable journey is not merely a physical journey from one place to another, but also a journey of the mind and the soul. It is about stepping out of our comfort zones, challenging ourselves, and growing in the process. It is about embracing the journey, with all its challenges and triumphs, and making it a part of our story.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

A Village Festival

Short Paragraph on A Village Festival

  • In many lands, there is a festival of thanksgiving for a good harvest. Diwali is of this nature.
  • Dancing and music, both men and children take part.
  • The procession, the taken out is offered of God in gratitude.
  • The foodstuffs are given to the poor.

Practically every nation has inherited from its early days the custom of thanking God for the fruits of the earth. Part of the harvest is offered to God as a symbol of gratitude. So with Diwali. On the eight days of the new year, a procession and festival was held in our village. The crops had been good the banias had closed their account book and opened new ledgers. Everybody rose early on that day.

Short Paragraph on Temperance (390 Words)

The women had plastered cow-dung on the verandahs and painted the thresholds of their houses bright rod, with a sprinkling of rice here and there. The children were washed and dressed more carefully than usual, given their holiday garments with strict injunctions to keep them clean. At an early hour, the men of the village commenced to assemble round the big banayan tree where the village well is. Already the sound of tabors and pungas penetrated the sleepy houses, and dancers had commenced with a few preliminary steps. I. have a book in which is a poem called L’Allegro by Milton. He described the village of England having a festival to the music of the “jocund flutes and inviting all to dance:

“Come and trip it as you go On the light fantastic toe.”

Almost the whole of this poem could have been written as a description of our Divali celebrations.[the_ad id=”17141″]

Then a procession was formed and made its way through the streets to the temple of the God Krishna. The dancers worked themselves to their highest pitch, circuling and leaping about with amazing agility and endurance. The musician blew on their pungas, banged their cymbals as if trying to see which could produce the greatest noise. Dust filled the air and settled on the performers, but no one cared.

Then a halt was made, but the performers continued to dance and play till about noon. Then the bells were rung and all were admitted to the temple. The scene reached the limit of wild an enthusiasm, and the prayers were loudly chanted on every side. The priests controlled the emotions and calmed the people down.

After a while was the distribution of good. The part of the crops devoted to celebration had been turned into cakes and other foodstuffs, and was now offered to God. God received the thanks of His people. All the food was divided between the worshippers, who ate it and rejoiced in their purification, their release from the burden of sins.

The groups wending their way home were quiet and subdued in comparison with the former noisy procession. At home special sweetmeats were the order of the day and the holiday feeling continued in the air. Lamps were lighted all over the village as the darkened, but the greatest light was in the hearts of the village people, for one day taken away from the toil and routine of their hard lives.

Rosatom to survey contaminated areas near Elektrostal plant

!{Model.Description}

Russia’s Rosatom on 22 June signed a state contract with VNIPIpromtekhnologii to conduct a radiation survey in 2021 of three legacy radiation-contaminated areas in the Moscow Region, which adjoin the site of the Mashinostroitelny Zavod (MSZ) in Elektrostal (part of the TVEL Fuel Company). The survey aims to obtain up-to-date and reliable information about the radiation situation in the three areas. The total survey area is some 582,000 square metres and the results of the work, including recommendations on the observation regime for the objects located in this territory, will be presented no later than 30 October.

MSZ currently produces nuclear fuel for Rosatom’s fleet of reactors as well as for some NPPs in Europe. However, from the late 1940s to the mid 1950s, at plant No 12 (the predecessor of MSZ), work was carried out to process imported uranium ores. The ores were initially stored along the railway tracks running south of the industrial site of the plant, resulting in contamination.

At another site, radioactive contamination is a consequence of the collapse in 1953 of a tailings dam. From 1950, the tailing dump was used to store waste from the production activities of the enterprise. The third small area with a radiation anomaly is near the village of Subbotino and was decontaminated in 2016 as part of the implementation of the programme activities of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Radon. The content of radionuclides in the soil was reduced to levels corresponding to the radiation safety requirements for land plots for the construction of residential houses, buildings and structures for public and industrial purposes. The radioactive waste (some 10 cubic metres) was sorted, packed and prepared for shipment for processing, conditioning and temporary storage.
