3D animation effects in PowerPoint
You can add animation effects to 3D graphics:
Arrive or Leave
Turntable and Swing
Jump & Turn
Duration: 58 seconds

Insert and position a 3D model as described in Get creative with 3D models .
On the Animations tab of the ribbon, select one of the 3D animation effects.
Select the animation effect you want.
On the ribbon, select Effect Options to open the menu. You can choose properties related to the Direction , Intensity , and Rotation Axis of movement.
To see the effect in action, select Preview on the ribbon.
Requirements for 3D animation effects
On the Animations tab of the ribbon, select one of the categories of effects, such as Emphasis Effects .
The available 3D animations are at the top of the list.
On the ribbon, select Effect Options Property to open the menu. You can choose properties related to the Direction , Intensity , and Rotation Axis of movement.
To see the effect in action, switch to the Slide Show tab of the ribbon and select From Current Slide .
PowerPoint for the web can play a 3D animation that has been inserted in another version of PowerPoint, but it doesn't support the insertion of 3D animation effects itself.

How To Download and Insert 3D Models in PowerPoint 2016 Tutorial
3D Models in PowerPoint are only available with Microsoft 365 Subscription and if you are interested in working with 3D Models but don’t want to spend money then this post is for you. This article will explain how you can use 3D Models in earlier versions of PowerPoint (Tested only with PowerPoint 2016) and what are the limitations.
The idea is simple. You can download all the Animated 3D Models of PowerPoint Presentations from the link below. Each ZIP File contains 5 Presentations, which contain 54 Animated 3D Models. The presentations have been separated according to the 3D Model Views (View 1 To View 18) and you can download the particular presentation according to your 3D Model View requirements.
Trick To Get 3D Models in Earlier Versions PowerPoint
Let me know in the comment section which version of PowerPoint you are using and did this trick worked for you or not. Download and open any one of the presentations from the link below. Then check which version of PowerPoint is installed on your system by clicking on File – Account as shown in Figure 1.1:
The instant way to note that either the 3D Models will work in that version or not is to check that after opening the presentation if you are seeing the Animation Preview in a loop that means 3D Models can work in that version. Play the Video in Figure 1.2, where after opening the presentation in PowerPoint 2016, we can see a live preview of all the models available inside the presentation.
Limitations of using 3D Models in PowerPoint
The next thing to know is the limitations of using 3D Models in PowerPoint 2016. If you will select any of the 3D Models from the presentation then you will find a new Format Tab will appear in the Office Ribbon and if you will click on the Format Tab then you will find various actions that can be applied to the selected 3D Model in PowerPoint 2016, see Figure 1.3:
No 3D Views For 3D Models in PowerPoint 2016
The first and most important thing that you can note in the Format tab is that you cannot change the 3D Model View of the Selected Model as it is disable by default in PowerPoint 2016. See Figure 1.4:
PowerPoint 365 supports 18 different 3D Model Views for each model. In Figure 1. 5, you can see all the available views for the selected model in PowerPoint 365 or you can freely customize the view from the middle button.
But there is good news, you will be able to change the Scenes . Each 3D Model consists of various different animated scene sequences, which we can change according to the animation scene requirements. The total number of available scenes depends on the selected 3D Model. One model may have 5 scenes while the other may have 11 different animated scene sequences. See Figure 1.6:
You can also Copy and Paste a 3D Model from the downloaded presentation into a New Presentation or New Slide. See Figure 1.7:
The other features that you can use over a 3D Model in PowerPoint 2016 are changing the Alignment , changing the size of the model, using Selection Pane to name the Layers, Arrange the positions like Send To Back or Bring To Front , and most importantly that you can also apply most of the PowerPoint Animation Effects to a 3D Model like Entrance, Emphasis, Exit and Motion Paths . So that is all you can do with 3D Models in earlier versions of PowerPoint. Don’t forget to mention in the comment section that either this trick worked for you or not and what version of PowerPoint you were using.

Bring Your Presentations To Life: How To Enable 3D Models In PowerPoint 2016

PowerPoint 2016 is a powerful presentation software from Microsoft that comes with a range of features to help you create stunning, professional-looking presentations. One of these features is the ability to add 3D models to your presentations. Enabling 3D models in PowerPoint 2016 is a great way to add a unique and engaging visual element to your presentations, and this guide will show you exactly how to do it. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to bring your presentations to life with 3D models. We’ll walk you through the process step-by-step, so you’ll be ready to add 3D models to your PowerPoint 2016 projects in no time. So, let’s get started!
PowerPoint’s 3D model feature, which was created with special features, enables cross-platform compatibility. You can also create 3D models using the Paint 3D app, which is a default app for Windows 10 (latest version, Office Insider). 3D files can be included in PowerPoint slides in a variety of formats. If you have a Remix 3D account, you can easily create 3D models in 3D Paint using it. When you click on the 3D model, the rotation tool will appear at the center, allowing you to rotate it. You can change the focus of an object by using your mouse, for example, to zoom in or out and resize it. With Morph, you can easily create an animation effect that is both visually stunning and technically impressive.
A simple 3D animation is not required to be skilled in drawing or designing. Microsoft’s 3D modeling software does not support camera angles and lighting as other modeling software does. Because the 3D model is a new feature in Microsoft Office, it is likely that the model will be improved in the near future.
Real multi-dimensional objects that can rotate in all three spacial axes are 3D models. These new 3D model transitions are included in the most recent updates for Office 365 subscribers, as are new PowerPoint 2016 PowerPoint updates.
According to an article in this week’s Paper, the 3D model feature is only available to Office 365 subscribers. If you do not have an Office 365 subscription, you will be unable to add the feature to your PowerPoint client .
Select one of the three-dimensional effects from the Animations tab of the ribbon. An animation effect can be selected in the following order. To access the menu, look for Effect Options on the ribbon.
You can insert 3D models in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows Mobile by going to the Insert tab of the ribbon and selecting 3D Models. A window will open when it is viewed. Choose one, or more, images and then click Insert.
Why 3d Models Is Not Showing In Powerpoint?
You can see if Online 3D models are available by going to PowerPoint > File > Options > Customize Ribbon > All Commands > Check if you can find it online.
How Do I Open 3d Models In Powerpoint?
Opening 3D models in PowerPoint is easy and can be done in just a few steps. First, open the PowerPoint presentation you want to include the 3D model in. Then, click on the “Insert” tab and select “3D Models” from the drop-down menu. A new window will appear and you can then choose from a variety of 3D models. You can also click on the “From File” option and browse for the 3D model you want to add. Once you have selected a 3D model, click on the “Insert” button and the 3D model will be added to the PowerPoint presentation. You can then resize and rotate the 3D model to your desired position.
Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to insert 3D models directly into your documents or presentations using a special feature. In a 3D model, an object or image is given a three-dimensional view. It is commonly used in various industries, such as virtual reality, video games, 3D printing, and photography. The first step is to click the drop-down arrow button to access the 3D Models. The second step is to select the animation you want to use. As shown in Figure 17, the Format option can be found in the navigation menu bar. The window will appear for an insert 3D model in the image below. The file has now been saved, and from the left-hand panel of the window that displayed the saved file, choose the drive or folder.
Powerpoint Inserting 3d Models
PowerPoint allows users to insert 3D models into their presentations to enhance their visuals. With the use of 3D models, presenters can create a more realistic and engaging experience for their audience. Users can insert 3D models into PowerPoint with the use of 3D Modeling software, such as SketchUp, or by importing a 3D model file directly into PowerPoint. 3D models can be rotated, zoomed, and animated to create a more dynamic presentation. Additionally, users can also add textures, shadows, and lighting to their 3D models to add additional realism.
By following these steps, you can use 3D resources in PowerPoint presentations. 3D objects are those that have three dimensions (length, width, and height). Animals, furniture, avatar, dinosaurs, food and drinks, flowers, plants, and sports are examples of 3D models that you can include in your game.

3D models in PowerPoint can enable you to be creative and productive.
3D models have been around for a long long time and we have seen them in action in several applications and many industries use 3D model software to develop plans and project models.
Microsoft recognized this requirement of PowerPoint users and made it possible to insert 3D models in PowerPoint.
Currently, it works only with Windows PowerPoint, not on the Mac version.
3D modeling in PowerPoint presentations is an added bonus for those from the entertainment, gaming, architecture, publishing, advertising, and marketing, geology and science industries, to name a few.
And guess what?
You can also create 3D models by using Paint 3D which is available with Windows 10 (latest version, office insider builds) as a default app.
You can download royalty free models from Remix3D.com . Remiz3D is a community where you can store and share all your 3D models. You can save them directly from 3D Paint.
Getting started with 3D Models in PowerPoint
Inserting 3D models follows the same steps that you would use to insert photos or videos in PowerPoint.
Open a new PowerPoint or an existing deck that you want to add 3D Models to.
Go to Insert → Select 3D Models
From the drop-down menu, you can pick how you want to insert a 3D file.
If you have your own 3D models that you want to insert into the presentation, that is awesome!
There are specific 3D file formats that can be inserted into PowerPoint slide. See below.
Select the format that your file is saved as.
If you don’t have a file, then you can opt for “ Online Source ” where you can search for what you want, or you can pick free models from Remix 3D.
If you have an account with Remix 3D, you can easily create 3D models in 3D Paint and save them in the community.
Once you insert the 3D model, you can rotate the model according to the angle you want to view it from.
To be able to rotate the model, click on the 3D model and the rotation tool will appear at the center. Hold the mouse pointer inside the rotation tool then rotate it freely in any direction.
However, you will encounter a few limitations when using 3D models in PowerPoint. You can’t edit 3D models within PowerPoint. At least not yet, until the tool is improved. Customization has to be done in Paint 3D.
There are restrictions when it comes to animation too. However, it works well with morph transition and the Pan & Zoom feature of 3D models.
Adding animation
Morph transition is as effective as animation. Let’s see how.
Say you have a slide with 3D models.
Let’s add some effects to give the slide some motion. First things first. Fix the position of the models as per your preferences before adding the morph effect. Here is an example.
Select a model. Here we have selected Earth. To change the size of the model, in the menu section, go to format and select the Pan & Zoom feature.
You will see an icon on the right side of the model you selected. Click on the + icon and you will notice your cursor change into a two-direction arrow.
Use your mouse to zoom in and out and resize or change the focus of the object. You can also use the four corners of the model to resize the object.
Once you have positioned the objects, duplicate the slide.
In the duplicate slide, reposition the objects to how you would like the slide to appear after. Like a before and after effect. See image below.
Now add morph transition to the slides.
Go to transition and select Morph.
Under the Timing section , you can set the duration, you can add sound, and under the advance slide , you can select if you want to have the morph come in at mouse click or without it and you can just set the duration.
There, you have animation! Morph is a fantastic feature to create an animation effect.
You don’t need to be a design expert to be able to create simple 3D animation in PowerPoint.
I created the above slides in just two minutes. And here is the final result.
For those who are familiar with 3D modeling, it might be disappointing that Microsoft currently does not support camera angle and lighting as it does in other 3D modeling software .

When it comes to filing size for decks made using 3D models in PowerPoint, it is more or less similar to decks with images. But again, it all depends on the size of the 3D model used.
If the size is too large, then it will affect the responsiveness of the PowerPoint deck, and the deck might take longer to load.
Since the 3D model is a new feature in Microsoft Office, I guess we will see improvements soon.

Thanks a lot!!!! but It doesn’t work with 3D objects out of “Online Source”. I have 3D objects in the format that PowerPoint support, but only appears the white structure of the object. Regards!!!!

What format does PP work with? The best that works fir me is .obj files, but they all lose their color, importuing with default grey 🙁

How to Insert 3D Objects in PowerPoint
One unique design you can add to your PowerPoint presentations is 3D or three-dimensional models. These can be a great way to illustrate a point or catch your viewers’ attention. In this guide, we’ll show you how you can insert 3D models into your slide presentation.
Method #1: Via Online 3D Models
1. Open your slide presentation that’s saved on your computer.
2. Select the slide you want to insert a 3D model into.
3. From the ribbon, click the Insert tab and choose 3D Models . Click the 3D icon ( Cube icon ) or the down arrow to open the dropdown menu and choose Stock 3D Models .
4. The Online 3D Models window will open on the right side of your screen.
5. Here, you can select from an array of 3D models. Depending on your chosen theme, you can click and select the 3D model that’s suited for you. In this guide, we’ll pick a Linear 3D Model , under the Chemistry theme.
6. Select the 3D model that you like and click the Insert button. If you want to insert more than one 3D model, select them all and click Insert . Your selected 3D models will appear with an orange checkmark on the model’s thumbnail.
Note : Alternatively, you can search for a 3D model by using the search function.
7. Once inserted, you can resize the 3D model using the border points. You can also rotate it using the 3D Control icon to tilt and rotate the 3D model in any direction. Just click the icon and drag it to your desired direction.
Method #2: Insert Via a Saved 3D Model on your Computer
In this case, we’ll work our way to insert a 3D in PowerPoint from either a generated 3D file or a downloaded element from a 3D library.
1. Download a 3D model on your preferred site. In this guide, we’ll download a free human 3D model via a third-party website.
2. After downloading, you’ll be given either a .BMP (Bitmap), .FBX (Autodesk Filmbox), or .OBJ (Standard 3D file format). You’ll need the .OBJ version of the 3D image for PowerPoint.
3. Open your PowerPoint presentation and click the Insert tab from the ribbon. Select the down arrow and choose This Device…
4. Select the .OBJ version of the 3D file and click Insert .
5. The 3D image will now appear on the slide. Similar to the last method, you can also resize and rotate the slide using the border points and the 3D Control icon.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, the process to insert 3D in PowerPoint is very straightforward. This awesome feature is a lifesaver for quality academic presentations , for people in the 3D modeling industry, and way more.

How to Add 3D Models to Microsoft Office Documents and Presentations
Microsoft Office offers something that helps you create documents and presentations for the 21st century: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Windows can import 3D models.
Remember clip art ? They weren't high art, but they could illustrate a Microsoft document. Now, Microsoft Office offers something that helps you create documents and presentations for the 21st century: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Windows can now use 3D models.
It's an exciting development because documents and PowerPoint presentations can now tell richer stories. You also won't have to rely too much on designing animations with simple shapes. Let's see how you can take advantage of this improvement.
How to Add 3D Models to Microsoft Office Documents
3D model insertion is available for PowerPoint 2016, Word 2016, Excel 2016, and Outlook 2016 for Office 365 subscribers only. You can upload a 3D model from a local file or from an online source. It works just like the process of uploading an image file.
Here's how it looks when you insert the first 3D model:
- Launch Word 2016, Excel 2016, Outlook 2016, PowerPoint 2016.
- Go to Ribbon > Insert > 3D Models > From a File .
- The 3D model is inserted. A 3D rotation handle in the center can rotate or tilt the model to different angles.
- Drag the image handles on the side to increase or decrease the size. There is also a rotation handle to rotate the image clockwise or counter-clockwise but the central 3D rotation control can also do the same job.
- Like pictures, 3D models also have their own Format tab on the toolbar. The Format tab has controls to help you customize how your 3D images are going to look.
- The Format toolbar also displays the 3D Model Views gallery which helps you preview all sides of the model.
- If you've got multiple 3D models, then select the right one with a click on the Selection Pane .
- The Pan & Zoom button on the toolbar gives you control of how your 3D image fits within the frame. For instance, you can zoom into a particular part of the model and fit it inside the frame.
You can add 3D models created in Paint 3D or download them from the Remix 3D community catalogs, or bring them in from another source. Then, you can create eye-catching animations or visuals in Word, Excel, Outlook, or PowerPoint. For instance, use Morph Transition with 3D models in PowerPoint 2016.

3D Model Interaction in a PowerPoint Slide Show

We love the new 3D Model capabilities that have recently arrived in Microsoft Office. And just to be clear, we’re talking about 3D Models and not 3D Effects .
3D Models are true multi-dimensional objects that can be rotated in each of the three spacial axes. They’ve arrived in the latest updates for Office 365 subscribers in PowerPoint 2016, in addition to some cool new 3D Model Transitions.
What About Slide Show?
As of writing this post, it’s not possible to interact with 3D Models in slide show mode. But is that true? We got all investigative and went under the hood to see if we could find a solution.
Add-In Possibility?
This prototype demo could be evolved into a custom add-in for PowerPoint but we think that Microsoft have put such a lot of effort into 3D so far that they are bound to build this capability into PowerPoint in a future version. Let’s see!
