Essay on Environmental Protection

Environmental protection is improving, defending, and maintaining the quality of the environment. The main methods of environmental protection are recycling, reusing, and reducing; however, some other methods such as Green Energy production, green transportation development, and eco-friendly industrialization also exist. Not only residents but also businesses and industries should play their basic roles to improve the environment.

The History of Environmental Protection

Humankind has always been concerned about the environment. The ancient Greeks were the first to develop environmental philosophy, and they were followed by other major civilizations such as India and China. In more recent times, the concern for the environment has increased because of growing awareness of the ecological crisis. The Club of Rome, a think tank, was among the first to warn the world about the dangers of overpopulation and pollution in its report "The Limits to Growth" (1972).

In the early days of environmentalism, people thought that the best way to protect nature was to set aside areas where humans would not disturb the environment. This approach, which is known as preservation, was given a major boost in the United States with the establishment of the National Park Service in 1916.

The modern environmental movement began in the 1960s when concerns about the negative impact of humans on the environment began to increase. In response to these concerns, governments around the world began to pass legislation to protect the environment. In the United States, for example, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1970.

The Principles of Environmental Protection

There are three fundamental principles of environmental protection:

The precautionary principle: This principle states that if an activity has the potential to cause harm to the environment, then steps should be taken to prevent that harm even if there is no clear evidence that the activity is damaging.

The polluter pays principle: This states that the party responsible for causing pollution should be held responsible for cleaning it up.

The public right to know the principle: This principle states that the public has a right to know about any potential threats to the environment and what is being done to address them.

The goals of Environmental Protection

There are three main goals of environmental protection:

To protect human health: This is the most important goal of environmental protection because humans cannot survive without a healthy environment.

To protect ecosystems: Ecosystems are the foundation of life on Earth, and they provide many benefits to humans, such as clean air and water, food, and fiber.

To promote sustainable development: Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Environmental protection is a practice that aims to protect the natural environment from the hands of individuals, organizations, and governments. It is the need of the hour because the Earth's environment is deteriorating every day, and the reasons are human beings. They are mishandling the Earth's environment to fulfill their needs. If it goes like this, then it is difficult to say that the future generation will have a safer environment to live in. Through this essay, you will learn the importance of environmental protection.

A Long Essay on Environmental Protection

It is imperative to protect our natural environment from deteriorating, and the only way to do that is through environmental protection. This process should be adopted by every country as soon as possible before it is too late. The objective of this process is to conserve all the natural resources and try to repair some parts of the environment that are possible to get repaired. The biophysical environment is getting degraded permanently because of overconsumption, population growth, and the rapid development of technology. This can be stopped if the government plan strategies to restrict these activities to perform in a controlled way. This environmental protection essay can be a great help for the students to understand the environment they are living in.

Voluntary Environmental Agreements

Voluntary environmental agreements are getting popular in most industrial countries. Through this free essay on environmental protection, one will learn more about this type of agreement. These agreements provide the companies with a platform where they are recognized if they are moving beyond the minimum regulatory standards for protecting the environment. These agreements support the development of one of the best environmental practices. For example, the India Environment Improvement Trust (EIT) has been working in this environment field since the year 1998. Through this environmental protection essay, one is getting so much to learn.

Ecosystems Approach

An ecosystem approach to environmental protection aims to consider the complex interrelationships of the ecosystem as a whole to the process of decision making rather than just focusing on specific issues and challenges. The environmental protection essay writing will give a more precise overview of this approach. The ecosystems approach aims to support the better transferring of information, develop strategies that can resolve conflicts, and improve regional conservation. This approach has played a major role in protecting the environment. This approach also says that religions also play an important role in the conservation of the environment.

International Environmental Agreements

In the present scenario, many of the Earth's natural resources have become vulnerable because of humans and their carelessness towards the environment across different countries. As a result of this, many countries and their governments have come into different agreements to reduce the human impact on the natural environment and protect it from getting deterioration. Through this environmental protection essay in English, one will get a much clearer view on this matter particularly.

ENCYCLOPEDIC ENTRY

Preservation.

Preservation and conservation are both processes that protect the environment, but their approaches are somewhat different. The goal of preservation is to protect the environment from the harmful effects of human activity.

Wildlife and land preservation efforts help protect diverse wildlife populations such as this Asian water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and grey heron (Ardea cinrea) in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka.

The words preservation and conservation are often used interchangeably, but the two concepts are quite different. Conservation protects the environment through the responsible use of natural resources. Preservation protects the environment from harmful human activities. For example, conserving a forest typically involves sustainable logging practices to minimize deforestation. Preservation would involve setting aside part or even all of the forest from human development.

Why is preservation necessary? In 1800, the world’s population was one billion people. Today it is over seven billion—and continues to rise. An increase in people means greater demand for water, food, lumber , and other resources that come from natural environments. Increasing demand can drive people to exploit resources, even in regions well protected by preservation laws. Dzanga-Ndoki National Park is a protected region in Central Africa. Yet in 2013, poachers entered the region and killed 26 elephants for their tusks.

Successful preservation efforts often rely on shared responsibility between communities, organizations, and governments. In China, preserving the giant panda’s ( Ailuropoda melanoleuca ) habitat over the last decade has increased the panda population. As a result, in 2016 the panda was removed from the endangered species list and reclassified as “vulnerable,” which is a step in the right direction.

Wetlands are also hotspots for preservation. Wetlands improve water quality and minimize flooding and erosion. The Okavango Delta is the largest freshwater wetland in Africa. In 2015, National Geographic Explorer Steve Boyes launched the Okavango Wilderness Project to preserve a region that provides over 95 percent of the water to this delta.

ORDER PAPER LIKE THIS

Environmental conservation and preservation has been one of the major issues under discussion in the last few decades. Major conferences like the G8 summit have been discussing methods of coming up with different proposals on how to conserve the environment with the participation of every nation Man has been the major cause of the environmental problems that are being experienced in the present times. Global warming and climate change all have their roots on the careless and destructive nature of mankind without due consideration of the consequences of his actions on the future generations. A number of initiatives at both regional and local levels have been undertaken by corporates, nations and at individual levels towards this end. Many companies have virtually ‘gone green’ while others have established foundations to help in environmental conservation through creation of awareness and financial assistance.

At a personal level, there are many things that one can do to preserve the environment and create awareness to the society on the importance of the same. Below is a personal plan of action on what I would do at a personal level to preserve and sustain the environment. Trees not only have aesthetic value but also have many other benefits. I intend to champion an initiative for the planting of trees on the river banks and on all public land in my location. I actually intend to plant about 5000. I will thus engage the support of other like minded youth in the implementation of this project.

I have lived in my location for many years. In those days, trees surrounded the whole place and issues like dusty air, cutting of the trees, unclean drinking water issues were un heard of. The recent years have however seen the wanton cutting down of trees, destruction of river banks and other forms of human interferences. The purpose of this project is to preserve the environment and restore sanity amongst the folks by creating awareness on the importance of environmental preservation in every day life.

Goals to be accomplished

This plan intends to achieve the following goals.

Sensitizing the people on the importance of environmental conservation and preservation; once sensitized the people will develop a dire interest towards the conservation of the environment. Comprehending the importance of conservation, they will have a positive approach in the mechanisms which will be employed in the conservation of the environment.

To attain sustainable environmental conservation at the most cost effective means available.

To realize the benefits of environmental conservation in my area as part of a wider initiative

Wide variety of advantages will be gained from the whole objective of conserving the environment. Water catchment areas will be preserved thus availability of clean drinking water to the society. There will be reduced cases in the diseases associated with unclean water. Appealing scenery will develop from the whole project of conservation of the environment.

What I shall do to achieve these goals

To expeditiously achieve these goals a lot needs to be done .I intend to mobilize the youth in my area and enlighten them about the agenda. I will educate them about the benefits they are going to get after conserving the environment. I will initiate a motivational mechanism based on the whole agenda of conservation of the environment and ensure that the whole group will work towards making the agenda a success.

Creating awareness to the society on the importance of environmental conservation- I want to inform the people that their careless actions will cost them dearly. Every careless action that they do today will have negative impact on the environment in the future generation. Felling of trees without planting others for replacement will affect the water catchment areas in a negative manner. Cultivating along the water catchment areas will result to the drying of the water blocks thus unavailability of water for consumption. The end result in the mishandling of the environment will have drastic negative effects on the climate of the area having such a greater negative impact to the future generation.

To reverse the situation an initiative to grow seedlings and supplying them to the greatest hit areas through the help of the youths. This will reduce the effect of deforestation in these areas. In ensuring greater protection of these trees from animal and human destruction or interference, I intend to construct a fence around the regions where the trees will be planted to keep off animals and human interference. Also I have a plan of allocating every youth a certain number of trees which will be under there care and whoever does his job perfectly then he or she will receive a reward as an appreciation .These will definitely boost the morale of the youth to do the job in a right way.

Benefits to the environment

Aesthetic value

The general look of the environment will be appealing and beautiful. This will definitely bring about good scenery.

Preservation of Water catchment areas

On conserving the environment drying of water springs will be prevented. Water table will also rise and water will be readily available for consumption purposes and also for irrigation purposes. Trees will be of greater benefit since the normal breeze of trees makes people healthy. Fresh air free from dust since it will be purified by the trees will be available because of the transformed environment.

Rainfall catchment

Trees will attract rainfall and change the climatic conditions of the area. These will enable people practice agricultural activities in the area because conditions will be highly favorable.

Time line for the implementation of these steps

This project will be initiated in a period of three years;

The first year will be to sensitize the community a bout the project. This will be made possible through the organization of seminars, open public rallies and in local schools through the young children.

Here, the nursery management and tree planting will be commenced. The nurseries will be distributed all over the region affected with the drought.

This will be the monitoring year; there will be evaluation and objective deviation supervision of the project. At the end of this year, the project will be commissioned with the help of other stakeholders to be a life time project.

Measuring the progress

The measure of progress can be done in a number of ways. This includes;

There will be monitoring the number of people who have stopped farming around the river bank and have initiated tree planting. Stopping the practice of agriculture around the banks will give room for the planting of trees, the more the number of people who stop the practice the bigger the land that will be available for the planting of the trees. There will be assessment of the number of people that will be planting trees in this area. The higher the number of people that will accept to plant trees the more the land that will be under conservation thus conserving the environment. The measure of how people will be preserving the already planted tress, if a greater number will conserve the trees planted the better the progress of conservation of the environment. This protection will be on how people will prevent the destruction and interference of the trees from human and animals the better the progress. The Rate of survival of the trees will also measure the progress of the plan. The higher the rate of survival of the trees the higher the progress of the whole plan of environment conservation the greater the success of the project.

Support material that will be helpful

Funds for the purchase of seedlings and for facilitating the plan will be required. Several sources of income will be required to make the plan a success. Human involvement which is readily available will be needed. Mobilizing the youth and the general society to help facilitate the plan is required.

Cooperation of the people and their goodwill will be highly appreciated.

Barriers and how to overcome them

Lack of cooperation; People might not be willing to have the place transformed. Such people will need a lot of sensitization that they may cooperate. Inadequate resources that will slow the facilitation of the plan, in such a situation I can look for the resources from donors. Poverty that will result to people cutting down trees to get money to meet the basic needs .alternative sources of income will be advocated so as to make the whole plan a success.

Two scenes stand out in my mind from my visit to Brazil’s Wetland: Forests burning before seed planting and trees as hedgerows. Before the planting season, I could see the leafless remnants of burnt trees still standing. The burning of pristine forests destroys both the habitats and countless species which depend on and thrive in these habitats. The few remaining bare, scarred trees silently convey the cost to our natural resources of pursuing our economic interests. Some forests are preserved by government edict issued in response to international pressure. But most of this preservation occurs alongside major roads — not to protect the ecosystem, but to prevent disturbance to ranches and farms along the highways. The clash between economic and environmental concerns that I witnessed in Brazil fascinates me and attracts me to the Environmental Studies Program.

Two courses in my geography department increased my interest in the connection between the environment and economics: Conservation of Underdeveloped Countries and Environmental Impact Analysis. In the former, we studied the problems of natural resource management in developing countries. The balance is always tilted toward economic growth at the expense of environmental preservation. For example, because the Pantanal Wetland could become a highly productive agricultural system once it’s drained, it is drained regardless of the destruction that drainage causes to the ecosystem. Only portions of the wetland are preserved for tourist purposes.

The other course that piqued my interest is an interdisciplinary course called Environmental Impact Analysis in which we, as a group, created matrix and flow diagrams discussing the economic and environmental impact of logging and preservation of old growth forests. I was able to use tools that I acquired in my economics and environmental studies classes. In general, logging creates economic benefits at the local level. It increases employment in the timber industry and subsequently in related non-timber industries; it also benefits local government. Yet, it has great deleterious environmental effects: soil erosion, watershed destruction, and a decrease in species diversity due to loss of habitat. The logging industry represents the classic clash between economic and environmental interests.

I also took two sequential classes in the economics department that are related to Resource Management — Theories of Growth & Development and Policies for Economic Development. Because the courses were taught by a professor who is concerned chiefly with economic growth, I learned the standard economic rationalizations for development unrestrained by environmental concerns.

In addition to my interest in resource management policies, I have a specific interest in Geographical Information System (GIS), a powerful tool for natural resource management. After taking several related classes in GIS, I began interning for the National Park Service (NPS). After I learn how to use ARC/INFO, a leading GIS package, I will assist the NPS in constructing projects. Some of my duties include spatial and non-spatial data analysis, digitizing themes such as fire locations, vegetation, wildlife habitats, etc., and tabular and graphical presentation of results. I hope to use the tools I acquire during this internship in my continuing study of our environment.

I would like to study the social and economic factors that influence environmental policy formation. For example, because people worry more about pollution than endangered species, laws and regulations concerning environmental pollution are more numerous and stricter than for bio-diversity. Within the School of Environmental Studies, I have a particular interest in the emphasis: Economics, Policy, and Management. This emphasis deals with how economic factors can create negative externalities, such as pollution, and need to be regulated. This emphasis also tries to consider non-economic values, such as aesthetic pleasure and species diversity. It also discusses tools like GIS and system analysis that apply to environmental management. Because of my interest in GIS, economics, and environmental studies, this emphasis suits me perfectly. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary approach of the School of Environmental Studies attracts me since it combines social science’s strengths with a knowledge of the natural sciences necessary to protect and preserve the environment.

After completing my masters program, I would like to continue my education and obtain a Ph.D. in natural resource management. This degree would enable me to combine a teaching career with advising business and government on natural resource management issues. Teaching college students is more than a one-way channel; I would also learn from their questions like my professors have from mine. In advising business and government, I can help them strike a balance between economic and environmental concerns. GIS will be a useful tool in helping me give them crucial information.

I have enjoyed an interdisciplinary approach in my environmental studies major and become fascinated by the clash between social interests, especially economics, and environmental needs. I pursued an additional major in economics to better understand this conflict. Furthermore, my work for the NPS will train me in the latest techniques in natural resource management. I would like to continue exploring this clash and resource management in the School of Environmental Studies. Ultimately, I would like to teach and work in natural resource management. Ideally, I would like to find ways for allowing development while preventing the burning of beautiful and valuable eco-systems like the Pantanal Wetland.

Preservation , or protection of ecosystems and biodiversity from injury or harm, is a form of resource management advocating the separation of humans from nature. Since the 19th century, there has been a schism in the American environmental movement over the best way to manage natural resources, with preservationists on one side and conservationists on the other. Preservationists believe that nature should be protected from the simplifying effects of human management. Conservationists believe that natural resources should be adequately used and managed by society in a utilitarian manner to achieve the highest possible benefit for the greatest number of people. The preservationist perspective believes that ecosystems and biodiversity can only be saved through nonuse, or full protection. Preservationists criticize the material aspects of the conservationist approach, arguing that they have compromised conservation values in the name of economic development.

Preservation-oriented policies raise an important corollary issue: what types of ecosystems and species warrant preservation? Most often, the answer is large wilderness areas that can support large carnivores, which are often seen as keystone species indicating overall ecosystem health. The association of wilderness with preservation adds another layer of complexity to the debate surrounding preservation; wilderness has become a highly contested concept as both social and natural scientists have demonstrated that there are no areas in the world that can be called “pristine,” or free from the influence of humans. Areas once considered to be “pristine wilderness areas” are often the product of many generations of human management.

The environmental historians Roderick Nash and William Cronon have drawn attention to the need to understand the cultural and historical rationale for preserving certain landscape elements. They demonstrate that associations with the concept of wilderness have not always been positive. In early American and European history there was a strong negative association with wilderness, which drove the desire to conquer or destroy wilderness rather than preserve it. Up until the late 18th century, the most common usage of wilderness referred to landscapes perceived as “barren,” “desolate,” “savage,” and “deserted.” Nash draws our attention to William Bradford’s first impression as he stepped off the Mayflower into what he saw as a “hideous and desolate wilderness.” Early American pioneers struggling to make a living on the frontier saw little in wilderness worth protecting; instead, wilderness was an obstacle to survival. Wilderness was considered a chaotic and immoral wasteland and the westward progress of pioneers found satisfaction in its destruction.

By the 19th century, however, there was a growing appreciation of wilderness areas in the United States. Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872, was the world’s first instance of large-scale wilderness preservation. The emergent national interest in the preservation of landscapes was supported by a variety of different arguments. The Romantic Era, as the period has come to be known, is characterized by the writings of philosopher Henry David Thoreau, who sought inspiration in the solitude of nature. Thoreau felt that the American character benefited from living in the wilderness, a belief that later inspired President Theodore Roosevelt to establish federal protection for almost 230 million acres. Numerous artists, such as Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstaadt, and writers such as James Fenimore Cooper, found their main source of inspiration in wilderness. Transcendentalists such as John Muir, the founder of the Sierra Club, saw connections between religion and nature and sought evidence of the power and goodness of God in nature. Others saw the American wilderness as an important component of the American identity, distinguishing it from Europe. In the words of Michael Nelson, an environmental ethicist, “The United States is a place where the eagle flies, the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play.” When making comparisons to Europe, America’s natural environment was one of the few areas in which the young nation could claim superiority.

The proposed construction of the Hetch Hetchy Dam, which would provide water and electricity to the arid San Francisco region by damming portions of Yosemite Valley, became a landmark case representing the division between conservationists and preservationists. In 1907 Roosevelt supported the planned Hetch Hetchy Dam under the utilitarian argument that the dam was essential to the material development of the state and would result in the highest possible use of water resources for the growing San Francisco population. John Muir and other preservationists, refusing to accept this decision without a fight, launched an aggressive campaign, arguing that Yosemite National Parkincluding the valley that would be flooded by the dam-was an important “public playground.” The campaign proved temporarily successful and Roosevelt retreated from his endorsement of the reservoir, although it was later approved under Woodrow Wilson’s administration in 1913.

By the 1930s other preservationists adopted a more radical view, known as deep ecology, developed by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess. In contrast to utilitarian argument, deep ecologists adopt an ethical argument to support preservation of biodiversity: all nature has an intrinsic worth, apart from its benefits to humankind. This view affects the preservationist-conservationist debate by shifting the perspective from anthropocentrismthe belief that man is the center of the universe-to biocentrism, in which mankind has a place equal to all other elements of the natural world.

Biodiversity

Regardless of the philosophical underpinnings that motivate the preservationist approach to separating man from nature, preservation it is not always successful in its primary goal, protecting biodiversity. The growing evidence that humans have had a role in producing supposed “wilderness” areas raises the important question: What happens to the wilderness landscapes when people are removed? An understanding of the role that Native Americans had in shaping the ecosystem that now comprises much of Yosemite Valley in California provides a clue to this question. Ethnoecologist Kat Anderson and anthropologist Michael Moratta have demonstrated that for Native Americans in the Sierra Nevada region, “fire was the most important management tool employed to clear brush, maintain grasslands and meadows, improve browse for deer, enhance production of basketry and cordage material, [and] modify the understory species composition in the forest.” Given this knowledge, it is not surprising that the preservation policies in place at Yosemite National Park have resulted in a decline in biodiversity; forest succession, historically kept in check by Native Americans, has begun to overtake the meadowlands. The landscape in Yosemite Valley that American explorers sought to preserve was in part shaped by the management techniques of the Native American residents they expelled.

Population Displacement

It is not only the role of people in shaping the landscape that is overlooked by preservationist policies, but also the human and environmental rights of people who are displaced in the name of preservation of natural resources. A critical part of the history of both Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks, often overshadowed by the magnificence of the landscape, is the fact that the eviction of Native Americans was a prerequisite to establishing the park.

Author Rebecca Solnit points to the fact that the naming of the principal landmarks in Yosemite was the result of the Indian War of 1851, in which Lafayette Bunnell and a battalion of about 200 men captured the Native American inhabitants and marched them to a reservation in the flatlands of San Joaquin Valley. For Solnit, this process of naming the landscape after the very people who were forcibly evicted is a bizarre mixture of romanticizing Native Americans while simultaneously annihilating their culture and settlements from the region. Just as the wilderness areas of United States could only be romanticized once they were “conquered,” the “savage” civilizations of the Native Americans could only be romanticized once they were extirpated.

For over a century, Yellowstone National Park became the model by which parks were established around the world. The American ideal of linking landscape, nature, and a national identity was replicated in nearly every country. The global movement to preserve landscapes and biodiversity was largely led by a group of wealthy, elite Europeans and Americans who saw themselves as gentlemen hunters-naturalists. Roderick Neumann, in his exploration of the political purpose that national parks played in colonial Africa, shows that Kruger National Park, established in 1926 in the Southern African Republic, played a significant role in formation of collective (white) national identity. He also persuasively shows that the very idea of wilderness protection in Arusha National Park in Tanzania was a European colonial construct, enforced at the expense of local livelihoods, that simultaneously strengthened the political power of the colonial administration. The preservationist model of conservation, as it is applied in much of Africa, not only evicts local people from their homelands, but also impoverishes them as the local elite invariably claim the profits from the tourism and safari hunting industries. Given this, it is not surprising that local residents resent protected areas and work to undermine the goals of preservation by continuing their reliance on protected areas for their livelihoods.

In other parts of the world, the separation of man from nature in the name of preservation has failed to garner the support it has in America. Ramachandra Guha has gone as far as to call the most extreme elements of the American wilderness preservation model a “frankly imperialist manifesto.” Guha and other scholars such as Vandana Shiva and Juan Martinez-Alier argue that wilderness and people should be allowed to coexist in a coherent whole; the separation of man from nature is an artificial dichotomy. They question who gave the conservation movement the moral authority to determine which areas need protection and which people need to be relocated to achieve protection.

Environmental Justice

In the 1980s wilderness preservation policies received a new critique from within the United States from the environmental justice movement. Environmental justice advocates seek to broaden the environmentalists’ perspective to include urban, work, and home environments, and the mitigation of hazardous resources. The goal of this group is to make environmental concerns more meaningful to a wider range of people living in varied environments, not just those who can visit remote national parks for pleasure. By drawing attention to the fact that many urban poor may never visit a national park, the American environmental justice movement emphasizes that the benefits of the traditional conservation agenda are not shared equally. This movement is creating a potential bridge to people in the developing world who feel that they have been unfairly burdened by the creation of protected areas.

Alternative Models

While the preservationist model of conservation has undoubtedly protected valuable and unique ecosystems and species in the United States, many conservation advocates recognize the poor fit between the American preservationist model and conservation goals of other countries. Consequently, many alternative models of conservation have been developed. These include extractive reserves, joint forest management, community-based conservation management, and integrated conservation and development projects. All of these alternatives promote benefit sharing in an effort to compensate local people for the resources they have given up by distributing income, employment, and other benefits from tourism. There is a growing awareness that conservation does not happen in a social vacuum, and that the preservationist’s model of conservation has a limited ability to protect biodiversity. Social and natural scientists are increasingly working together to rethink the traditional preservationist, or “Yellowstone model” of conservation with alternatives that capture a more holistic understanding of mankind’s place in nature.

To write an essay on environmental protection with a limited word count is a difficult task as there are various types of environmental protection like protecting air and controlling water pollution, ecosystem management, maintenance of biodiversity, etc. Nevertheless,  Team GuideToExam is trying to give you a basic idea of Environmental Protection in this Essay on Environmental Protection.

What is environmental protection?

Environmental protection is the way to protect our environment by increasing awareness among in our society. It is the duty of every individual to protect the environment from pollution and other activities which may lead to environmental degradation.

How to protect Environment in daily life (Ways to protect Environment)

Though there is an independent agency of the United States federal government for environmental protection called as US EPA, as a responsible citizens, we can follow some simple steps in our day-to-day life to protect the environment such as

We should minimize the use of Disposable paper plates: – Disposable Paper plates are mainly made from wood, and the manufacturing of these plates contributes to Deforestation. In addition to that, a huge amount of water is wasted in the production of these plates.

Maximize the use of reusable products: – One-time usable products of Plastic and paper have a very bad impact on the Environment. To replace these products, we must use reusable products in our homes more and more.

Use Rainwater harvesting: – Rainwater Harvesting is a simple method of collecting rainfall for future uses. The collected water by using this method can be utilized in different works like gardening, rainwater irrigation, etc.

Use eco–friendly cleaning products: – We must maximize the use of eco-friendly cleaning products rather than traditional products that rely on synthetic chemicals. Traditional cleaning products are mostly made from synthetic chemicals which are very dangerous to our health as well as our environment.

Environmental Protection Agency:-

Environmental Conservation

Human existence is quite impossible without the presence of a healthy ecosystem. Our environment comprises all living and non-living components and their interactions within a natural habitat. Environmental conservation has become one of the core issues that need to be addressed to battle climate change and global warming . Sustainable development is the need of the hour that can save mother earth from the repercussions of industrialization. In this blog, we will aim to elaborate upon environmental conservation , its needs and ways of conserving the environment.

This Blog Includes:

What is environment conservation, importance of environmental conservation, forest conservation , soil conservation, waste management, public awareness , pollution control , ways of conserving the environment, speech for environmental conservation, environmental conservation material for upsc, books on environment & environmental conservation, essays on environmental conservation, environmental conservation ppt.

International Day of Nature Conservation is held on the 28th of July around the world annually.

Environmental conservation is a practice that paves the way for protecting the environment and natural resources on the individual, organisational as well as governmental levels.

Various core environmental issues are taking a heavy toll on human lives. Ranging from overpopulation, hydrological issues, ozone depletion, and global warming to deforestation, desertification and pollution , all these issues pose a severe threat to the existence of humankind. Unless environmental conservation is becoming an effective mass movement, it is futile to expect positive growth especially in the age of digital media which holds the potential to bring a revolution to save our planet from destruction.

It has become inherently important to work towards environmental conservation in contemporary times. The following pointers elucidate this crucial need to save the environment from further degradation:

  • To reduce air , water and land pollution
  • To facilitate the conservation of natural resources for our future generations
  • To ensure the protection of biodiversity
  • To implement sustainable development
  • To restore the ecological balance
  • To save our planet from harmful repercussions of global warming

What are the Methods of Environmental Conservation?

Now that you are familiar with the meaning and importance of Environmental Conservation, let’s understand the core methods through which it can be effectively facilitated:

We know that plants and trees are the essential sources of air, food as well as other day-to-day products we use. Forests are the dwelling place of different living creatures and a single disturbance in the ecosystem can cause disruption in the water cycle as well as the food chain . Thus, afforestation is amongst the core Environmental conservation and aims to plant more trees as well as save the existing ones from cutting down as trees play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance.

The Global Day of Forests celebrated internationally on 21 March, is an incentive to recognize the vital importance of forests for human and environmental wellbeing.

As one of the prominent methods for environmental conservation, the need for soil conservation has arisen to tackle the harmful effects of soil pollution . On earth , the soil is the main element that plays a pivotal role in soil erosion, land degradation and floods. Soil is filled with rich nutrients for plant production. Soil conservation can be carried out by ensuring minimal use of fertilizers and venomous chemicals as well as abolishing the disposal of harmful industrial waste in the soil.

Especially in developing countries and congested places, on a daily basis, a large amount of waste is thrown away recklessly on the streets and roads. The improper disposal of waste segregation can lead to various dreadful diseases as well as soil pollution.

To ensure minimal wastage as well as facilitate waste disposal, we can opt for various techniques like the 3R’s, i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, dry and wet waste segregation, amongst others.

With the boom of information technology and the advent of digital media, public awareness pertaining to environmental conservation can potentially yield promising results. There is a dire need to aware the masses of the consequences of environmental pollution and degradation. Further, every individual should be made conscious of how they are polluting the environment and what steps can be taken to implement environmental conservation, be it through using greener energy sources to following the 3Rs of Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.

Every year on the 2nd of December, India observes National Pollution Control Day in remembrance of the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

As the increase in temperature is concerning, there is a need to keep a watch on the toxic compounds we ingest that pollute the atmosphere. We need to adopt environmentally sustainable methods to minimise multiple forms of emissions, such as eliminating waste, saving electricity, limiting the unnecessary usage of fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides, and using energy-efficient appliances, among others.

Here are some ways of conserving the environment:

  • Deforestation must be stopped
  • Natural non-renewable resources must be utilized properly
  • Every year, we lose a huge number of forest life due to forest fire. We must find a solution to this.
  • Afforestation is the best way to conserve the environment
  • Create public awareness
  • Control pollution and population
  • Recycle goods
  • Adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle
  • Adopt waste management techniques
  • Species on the verge of extension should be saved.

Good morning everyone. My name is _____ and my topic for today’s assessment is the Save Environment. What’s the biggest threat to everyone globally? Is it the decreasing currency rate or fewer jobs? Other than these, one of the major issues we are facing today is the adverse implications on mother earth. We want our houses to be clean, and our school uniforms to be always ironed so why are we not concerned about the place we all live in? Melting glaciers, natural calamities, climate change, and shortage of water are just some major alarming points, if we don’t do something today there will be more consequences. Environmental pollution can not be pinned on a single country or individual we all have been participating in it directly or indirectly and we certainly won’t be able to change it back to normal in a day but little effort every day can lead to a big change.

Conservation of Environment Essay

Air, water, land, sunlight, minerals, plants, and animals are just a few of the many blessings that nature has given us. Our Earth is a place worth living because of all these elements of nature that act as a blessing. Without any of these, life on Earth would not be conceivable. Here are a few essays on the topic ‘Conservation Of Environment’.

100 Words Essay On Conservation Of Environment

200 words essay on conservation of environment, 500 words essay on conservation of environment.

Conservation of Environment Essay

It is important to conserve the environment because if we don’t, the earth will be ruined. The main factor that leads to environmental destruction is the way people use and abuse natural resources. For example, people cut down trees without planting new ones to replace them. They also pollute air and water with harmful chemicals and waste. As a result, animals and plants die, and eventually humans will too. So it’s important for everyone to do their part in conserving the environment. By taking action to conserve our environment, we can protect it for future generations. A healthy environment is essential for humans and other species to thrive.

As the human population continues to grow and expand, it is important to take steps to conserve our environment. There are many factors that lead to environmental destruction. Rapidly increasing population and rapid consumption of resources are two major drivers of environmental degradation. As the world’s population increases, we need more food, water, and energy, which puts a strain on the planet’s resources. In addition, industrialization and economic development often come at the expense of the environment. Pollution from factories and automobiles harms air quality and contributes to climate change.

What Can We Do | The first step in conserving the environment is to reduce our reliance on natural resources. We can do this by using less water, energy and paper. We can also recycle more and waste less. Another important step is to promote sustainable development. This means meeting the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We can do this by using renewable resources, such as solar and wind power, rather than fossil fuels; by using environmentally friendly technologies; and by protecting ecosystems so that they can continue to provide vital services, such as clean air and water, food, and habitat for wildlife.

It is important to conserve the environment because if we don't, the natural resources that we depend on will eventually be depleted. Additionally, pollution and other environmental problems will continue to worsen if we don't take steps to reduce our impact on the planet. Conserving the environment can help to preserve delicate ecosystems, prevent species extinction, and improve air and water quality. It's important to remember that we all have a role to play in protecting our planet.

Fortunately, there are things we can do to help conserve our environment. One way is to reduce our consumption of natural resources. We can do this by using less water, recycling materials instead of throwing them away, and using energy-efficient appliances. Another way to help is to support businesses that are environmentally friendly.

Why We Should We Conserve The Environment

One of the most important reasons to conserve the environment is that it leads to environmental destruction. When we don't conserve the environment, we are putting strain on the very things that we depend on for our survival. This includes air, water, and soil.

We need to be good caretakers of our environment so that it can continue to provide for us. Additionally, conserving the environment helps ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the same benefits that we do. It's not just about us, it's about preserving our planet for future generations.

Steps To Conserve The Environment

As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the demand on our natural resources. This increased demand often leads to environmental destruction, as we see with deforestation, water pollution and climate change. However, it is possible to conserve our environment, and in doing so we can help protect the planet for future generations. Here are some tips on how you can conserve environment—

Use Less Water | Water is an essential resource, but unfortunately it is often taken for granted. One way to help conserve water is to use less of it when you can. For example, water your plants during the cooler hours of the day to minimise evaporation, and fix any leaks in your home as soon as possible.

Recycle And Reuse | Another way to reduce your impact on the environment is to recycle and reuse materials whenever possible. Instead of throwing away paper, cans or plastic bottles, recycle them. And instead of buying new products made from fresh materials, opt for products that are made from recycled materials.

Drive Less | Transportation emits large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. To help reduce these emissions, try driving less whenever possible. If you live close enough to work or school, walk or ride a bike instead of driving. And when you do drive, carpool or take mass transit when possible.

Save Energy | Home energy use accounts for a large portion of total energy consumption in most countries. So save energy when TVs, lights, fans, electronics, gadgets and even fixtures like water heaters are not in use. Unplug electrical equipment when not in use and only leave the lights on when absolutely necessary.

We should conserve the environment because it is essential for our survival. The factors which lead to environmental destruction are many and varied, but the most important are population growth, poverty, unsustainable resource use, and environmental degradation.

Environmental preservation is a collective responsibility that transcends geographical boundaries and generations. It demands a shift in mindset, from viewing the environment as a resource to be exploited to seeing it as a legacy to be preserved. It requires not only individual efforts but also international cooperation. By preserving the environment, we are not just saving trees, animals, or a beautiful landscape; we are ensuring the survival of life itself.

In conclusion, environmental preservation is an urgent necessity in the face of escalating environmental crises. Through sustainable practices, strict law enforcement, scientific research, education, and global cooperation, we can safeguard our environment for future generations.

We live in a world every individual is encouraged to apply the three R’s applicable in reducing and preventing environmental pollution. The three R’s refer to reduce, reuse, and recycling of materials. They ought to be applied in ensuring the rate at which global citizens are polluting the environment declines. For example, people should identify how to create products from discarded materials to attain the recycling and reusing strategy applicable to reducing environmental pollution. Consequently, they should strive to produce tasteful and functional products for daily use to reduce pollution. A focus on the movie ‘Marwencol’ and the television show ‘Steam Punk’ inspired the idea of making a lamp from recycled and cheaply available materials.

The Movie Marwencol

Marwencol is a documentary that focuses on the fantasy world of Mark Hogancamp. It focuses on the life of Mark who after being beaten and left in a coma for nine days due to brain damage obtained from the trampling by five men, does not give up in life. After spending forty more days in the hospital following the coma, he is discharged with persistent brain damage and little memory of his life. Mark also faces the challenge of affording therapy vital in managing brain damage and memory loss. He, however, does not give up. Instead, he decides to build a sixth-scale Belgian town in his backyard inspired by the World War II era . He also opts to add dolls in the town representing him as well as his family and friends. He also believes that adding his attackers as part of the population in the town would bring more meaning in his project. Consequently, he is able to create life-like photographs within the town. He dubs the town ‘Marwencol’ which is a portmanteau of the names ‘Mark’, ‘Wendy’, and ‘Colleen’ (Lanther 1).

He details various relations and dramas occurring within the town as playing and photographing diverse aspects and activities occurring in Marwencol helped him to recover his hand and eye coordination. More so, he was able to deal with psychic wounds that occurred after the attack. Mark and the photographs are later discovered and published by a prestigious New York gallery, the Esopus Magazine. The magazine later decides to set up an art show inspired by his works. This leads Mark to acknowledge his work as art rather than a form of homemade therapy assisting him in managing brain damage and memory loss that occurred after the attack. Consequently, he is required to choose between the safety of his therapeutic fantasy life in Marwencol and the real world he had been avoiding immediately after being attacked (Lanther 1).

In popular culture, the movie ‘Marwencol’ has been referenced on occasions aimed at raising hope. It is also referenced as a fictional film that ought to encourage people that life experiences can be painful but human beings should never give up. This has led several television shows to cite various life lessons acquired from watching the movie ‘Marwencol’.

The Steam Punk TV Show

The Steam Punk television show is a reality program enabling ten designers to compete in identifying and developing new ideas. The designers engage in activities influencing how costumes, fabrics, moving parts, up-cycling, and carpentry materials can be designed. The television show, therefore, showcases different designs in ten episodes while bringing viewers a long experience in the cultural world of competition while acknowledging people should focus on recycling and reusing materials. Thus, it can also be described as a game show. Steam Punk is often joined by different guest judges expected to review designers’ final products based on their skills and experience as experts. The judges are required to visit the participating designers in each room throughout the weekly period of the competition. The winners are declared team leaders during the next challenge. The designers whose final products are not selected after the competition comes to an end mainly due to poor quality and unimpressive designs are requested to go home (Que 1).

The show, however, is keen in encouraging the participants to reuse and recycle materials they believe can produce winning designs. For example, the participants are encouraged to reuse and recycle materials in processes guaranteeing the cultural world of steampunk will identify a new and fresh design or idea. The television show also acknowledges the participants are talented, skilled, competitive, and capable of developing fresh and exciting ideas. Thus, they are neither discouraged nor limited from reusing and recycling the materials they need to complete each competitive episode.

The Idea of Making a Lamp Out of Recyclable Materials

After watching the movie ‘Marwencol’ and the television show Steam Punk, I discovered that they both encourage the reuse and recycling of materials. For example, designers participating in the Steam Punk show often reuse and recycle materials in an attempt to come up with new and creative ideas. Mark Hogancamp also builds a town by reusing and recycling materials in an attempt to bring hope and improve his views on the world the attackers left him after suffering from brain damage and memory loss. I, therefore, came up with the idea of making a lamp from recyclable materials to play part in reducing, managing, and preventing environmental pollution by recycling and reusing the supplies I needed. I, however, needed to make a trendy lamp to affirm that recycled and reused materials can also be of high quality. More so, they are equally capable of producing quality products.

As a result, I identified the materials I needed and listed products I could purchase at very cheap prices to give my ideal life. I had witnessed my parents and siblings storing coins on various shelves in the house. They would often forget to reuse them which resulted in the coins staining the wooden shelves or cloth materials mainly due to the rusting process as we live in a hot and humid residential area. I, therefore, collected the unused parts and several computer parts from machines that have not been in use and were considered a health risk, especially for my younger siblings. I acknowledged I had to reuse the bright-colored materials in the house to ensure the lamp looks luminous and fancy. The wooden materials I would have recycled were of poor quality. As a result, I decided to visit various shops in our locality where I purchased recycled wooden materials at cheap materials. I also acquired wires at similarly cheap materials. I had to shape the wire round, add the coins on and attach the luminous and bright pink cloth material. I also decided to reuse an old flower vase as the lamp’s base. Lastly, I filled the vase with pearls from my mother’s and sisters’ old pearl chains. The final product was beautiful, fancy, and made from materials that have either been recycled or acquired cheaply.

In conclusion, the lamp, the movie ‘Marwencol’ and the television show ‘Steam Punk’ demonstrate that environmental pollution can be managed , reduced, and prevented through recycling and reuse of materials. As a result, tasteful and functional products for daily use should actively attain environmental preservation through the three Rs.

Long Essay on Environmental Protection in English 500 words

Environment Protection Essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

The matter of environmental protection is of utmost urgency because of the maximum danger that the environment is in right now. Owing to various human-made activities, the situation is under dire threat. The damage is tremendous and has reached a point of no return. However much we try, we cannot undo the destruction that has already been inflicted. Thus, we need to lessen the human impact on the environment as much as possible.

The environment contains under it the lithosphere, the atmosphere, the biosphere, and the hydrosphere. The lithosphere refers to the land surrounding us; the hydrosphere contains all the water bodies surrounding us; the atmosphere contains all the gaseous fluids around us. Land, water and air pollution is the main reason behind the degradation of the environment.

Environmental protection implies taking care of and rescuing the environment. First, awareness about environmental protection should be spread; the familiar people should know about the need and requirements of environmental protection.

Environmental degradation can be kept under check in some ways. People should be encouraged to plant trees. Forests and vegetations are being cleared extensively for farming and construction purposes. It has led to the depletion of forest resources by and large. The number of trees has diminished to a great extent. Trees are our only source of oxygen in the earth; clearing trees and plants results in depletion and a decrease in the amount of oxygen available in the air. This puts the entire humanity at risk. By facilitating the growth of trees, the greenery can be restored. The loss made can be compensated.

To protect the environment, pollution rates should be decreased. Air, land, and water pollution needs to be kept under check. Utmost care should be taken while disposing of wastes on water prices; reduced use of vehicles and transportation can help reduce air pollution; careless dumping of solid wastes on the ground can be decreased to regulate land pollution.

Saving water is yet another effective measure for environmental protection. Water is a vital resource, and it is essential for survival. The amount of fresh drinkable water on the earth is very less when compared to the enormous population. Water should thus be saved. The demand for water increases leaps and bounds, while its supply keeps decreasing. Hence wastage and excessive use of water should be curtailed.

Waste management is yet another tenet. Management of waste implies proper disposal of trash. Practices such as dumping of untreated wastes on water bodies and land should be stopped. Appropriate waste bins, sewer systems, and garbage dumps should be [present, where people can get rid of the waste. The municipality should adequately treat it.

Thus the number of ways in which to bring about environmental management is numerous. People need to be more aware and responsible. They should understand the urgent need to be careful in their day-to-day dealings with nature and the environment. They should be more cautious.

Some ways to take care of our environment are to practise recycling, follow proper garbage disposal protocol, avoid using our cars too much and rely more on public transportation instead.

Every day we hear about how our planet is changing. The need for environmental protection arises from the changes in rising carbon dioxide levels, which causes drastic changes in our environment. The rising levels of carbon dioxide result in changes in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide traps heat, which leads to a rise in atmospheric temperature.
