706 movie review: A drab whodunnit

706 movie review: you begin watching this in the hope that the two seasoned lead actors will give us something. but both atul kulkarni and divya dutta are left to fend for themselves.

A little boy has visions. He knows things about a doctor (Dutta) whose husband (Agashe) has been missing for ten days. He knows things about a cop (Kulkarni) who is investigating the disappearance.

What are these secrets? How are the deaths of a woman in Varanasi and a man in Mumbai connected? There appears to be enough meat in the story for an engrossing who-dun-it.

But 706 turns out to be one more of those terrible could-have-beens. Ill-constructed scenes are piled up with characters explaining their every move. A romantic angle is bunged in, with the popping up of a neurotic depressive (Bakhirta), and the lines keep getting increasingly more bizarre.

You begin watching this in the hope that the two seasoned lead actors will give us something. But both Kulkarni and Dutta are left to fend for themselves, the former having to grapple with a ‘baba’ who says things like ‘uss ladke ke andar pishaach ghusa hua hai’; the latter with a lonely ‘spirit’.

You wonder how Dutta’s psychiatrist can keep a straight face while saying: ‘main dawaai kam deti hoon baat zyaada karti hoon’. Which almost pips this one: ‘love ek chemical reaction hai’.

You don’t say.

Awesome movie, must watch. <br/>*Different story<br/>*Strong acting by Divya Dutta and Atul Kulkarni<br/>*Some reviewer here has problems with technicalities like officer smoking and psychiatrist badly treating patients as if these thing don't happen. Its a movie dude, a Horror thriller movie �� and a very good one in low budget.<br/>*Few very strong dialogues very good writing.<br/>*Kudos to the entire team ����<br/>*One suggestion, with such very good actors in lead role take at least average supporting actors in the movie like the team of Crime Patrol does, takes all good actors even for small roles.

supernatural soap opera schlock with arthouse aspirations, the combination of the two means neither angle really works. thought this would be more horror but it's a slow burn thriller, menacing but not at all spooky. silly but absorbing, mainly because of atul kulkarni, such great actor with an understated commanding presence, i watched this specifically for him and was not disappointed.

It didn't get great reviews but I liked it. The child actor could have been stronger, but for his limited role, he did fine. As I watched the movie, I thought of several different ways they could take the ending and I was satisfied with how they concluded it. Best possible ending, actually.

What is 706 all about? A run of the mill suspense mystery that relies heavily on black magic and a strong performance by Atul Kulkarni, rather than snaky and exciting turns.

What is the plot/storyline of the movie 706? A renewed doctor and owner of a posh hospital Dr. Anil Asthana (Mohan Agashe) goes missing. Dr. Asthana’s wife Dr. Suman Asthana is worried as the officer in charge of the investigation DCP Shekhawat (Atul Kulkarni) is clueless. A child admitted in the hospital of Dr. Asthana insists on meeting Dr. Suman and the child is suffering from an untraceable disease and he behaves strangely at times. How the child, Dr. Suman and DCP Shekhawat come in common line as the child mysteriously opens some doors of secrets, finds the crux of the movie.

Analysis Movies belonging to the genre which 706 maker Shravan Kumar claims it to be – the psychological suspense thrillers rely strongly on the believe of people on ghost, demons along with the associated paradoxes. A set of rules like the atmosphere, build up and the feeling of the ‘unkown’ are essential in making the plot ( no matter how routine or unexciting it may be) control, manipulate the audience.

Shravan Kumar’s 706 is plagued by inconsistencies in both the department. A mystical plot and the rules of creating a maze of suspicion, tension, excitement, shock and surprises. The basic thread is alright about an investigating officer while investigating a case travels through his past and things take unexpected turns but the writer director overstuffs the movie with repetition. 706 is a movie that is more portentous than profound. It seems to be striving for that moment which never arrives and will never arrive cause there is no significant effort done beforehand to make it possible. In simple words 706 doesn,t excites as the way it should have.

Performances Atul Kulkarni shows outmost sincerity in his portrayal of a diligent police officer who is fighting an inner demon. Divya Dutta just passes the muster. Mohan Agashe is hardly there. Raayo S. Bakhirta is passable. Anupam Shyam as ‘baba’ is alright. Child actor Yashvit Sancheti impresses.

Technicalities/making It’s plain routine out here too. Cameraman Virendra K gets some opportunity while the action shifts to Banaras and he doesn,t disappoint. Kumar Tiwari’s editing is just okay. Background goes well with the movie.

Music Surprisingly, Amar Mohile gives a soulful number Hai Re Farebi, s oothingly sung by Prathaa Khandekar with meaningful lyrics by  Milind Gadhavi. In fact the number is the theme of the movie 706.

Final verdict If just the song Hai Re Farebi and a sincere act of Atul Kulkarni is enough to motivate you to visit the nearest theatre for 706, then do it at your own risk.

That Divya Dutta is a good actor is a given, but here she manages to carry the film along with another wonderful actor Atul Kulkarni. Bollywood does not make good horror films. And this film comes out of nowhere and surprises you.

So a doctor who owns a fancy hospital is missing and his young wife, Dr Suman, is shown to be worried for his well being. The cops as always have not found anything at all. Divya Dutta plays the wife and Atul Kulkarni plays the cop investigating this case. The police have found nothing and the cops make appropriate noises in the media about how they're doing their best. They're both good actors, so I am intrigued.

It's more than eleven days since her husband is missing so Dr Suman decides to go back to work. At work, a colleague informs her that a patient is refusing to leave the hospital unless checked by her personally. The patient turns out to be the creepy kid who looks alright, is physically fit but... Oops! Spoke too soon. The child suffers from bizarre convulsions, and then begins staring at the doctor and saying things like he knows where her husband is...

The cops search the area the kid has pointed to and discover that the information the child has given is indeed true. Secrets both the cop and the lady doctor have been hiding come out. We learn that a lad has jumped off the terrace from the hotel, and he stayed in room number 706 (hence the strange title of the film) The film uses very Indian themes of ghosts entering the body, spirits kept at bay with a taveez (blessed amulet) and a spiritual guru in Benaras foretelling the future...

The story slowly takes shape, even though the reasoning is staring at us, and in this day and age when things unravel so slowly, you wish you could fast-forward the film. The end reveal is rather satisfying. Perhaps it would be best watched on video or online...

The report of the disappearance of Mumbai physician Dr. Anil Asthana was found. His wife  Suman, is worried about it. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shekhawat assures her not to worry about it and everything will be okay. Suman does not believe his words and considers his assurance as hollow. She does not trust that they will find her dear husband. She is a psychiatrist. In the hospital she works, she meets with a ten year boy patient. The boy seems weird as his reports are regular, but still, he is suffers from convulsions. She does not think he needs to be admitted to the hospital and tells the authorities to discharge him. The parents strongly influenced her to check on their son, as he requested her to check on him. This strange boy is causing a massive change in her life. What is going to happen to Suman? Who is this strange boy? The rest of the story deals with it.

Star Performance

Divya Dutta, as Dr Suman Asthana, did a satisfactory performance in the film. Her journey to escape from this strange boy. Everything about her life changes with this strange boy. She was good in the first half, but her performance was weak in the second half. Her detailing of the case was reasonable. Atul Kulkarni, as D.C.P. Shekhawat, did a fine performance in the movie. He shows the nature of a pretend-to-be good cop but having its own dirty hands hidden. His acting was factual and natural. One would creep out Anupam Shyam, as Baba in Banaras, after watching this movie. That much impact he made in the whole movie. Her appearance as the Bab was scary, horrifying, and, at the same time, creepy. He did a remarkable performance in the film. All the other actors were as good as the main lead actors.

The storyline of the film was great, creepy, horrifying, and scary. The film focus on the central theme of how karma will return no matter how you try to hide. The film shows a creepy thriller stories, how people who pretend to be good but are not. The darkness of the main lead's personality was written.  The theme of the storyline in the film was good but lacks in scripting. The scripting was poorly written and framed in the movie. The first half was engaging, but the second half was boring to the audience. The thriller nature of the film is maintained from the start till the end. Supernatural elements like rebirth are shown in the movie. The horrifying journey of both main leads' dark secrets was demonstrated in the movie. The film's title is 706, but the film never talks about it. There is no significance in the title, which itself is a drawback. The background music and songs play a significant role in the movie. The dialogues were okay in the film.

• When a doctor goes missing, his psychiatrist wife treats the bizarre medical condition of a psychic patient, who knows much more than he's leading on.
• Mumbai based top surgeon Dr Anil Asthana is missing since last 11 days his much younger wife Dr Suman decides to take charge of the hospital in his absence.Suman meets a young patient Neeraj suffering from rare disorder and finds from him that Dr Asthana has passed away after his car met with an accident somewhere in Lonavala.DCP Shekawat investigating the case travels with his team and finds truth in the story.Shekawat sends Neeraj's video to a spiritual person Dinkar in Benaras who tells him that Neeraj is possessed an that he cant revel more details on phone and that that he will have to come to Benaras for the same. — [email protected]
