What are revision cards?

How can i use revision cards.

• Is using revision cards enough?

Revision is one of the most important stages of exam preparation. It often ends up deciding how well you are going to score in an exam. Therefore, choosing the right revision strategy is crucial. 

The wrong strategy might make you doubt yourself on the eve of the exam or in the exam despite having studied a lot. This means when it’s finally time for the test, you will feel underconfident and overworked. 😞

Revision cards are one of the best revision strategies. These flashcards condense information into small, bite-sized chunks that you can easily process and remember . Using different colours and images with these flashcards helps emphasise important information in a way that allows it to register in the brain. 🧠 

Revision cards are small, double-sided flashcards that emphasise key information. They usually mention the topic/question on one side and important details, keywords, mnemonics, etc., on the other. This helps the brain make better connections between those two pieces of information. 

These cards can be altered in a number of different ways in order to make them unique and memorable. Revision cards can include:

Images 

Drawing an image related to the question/keywords can help memorise it better. The human brain is excellent at remembering images and tends to associate with them in a broader manner than simple text. 

Colours 

If used wisely, colours can be a great add-on to revision cards. You can vary the colour and your pen-ink in order to create combinations that stand out. Studies show that most people remember things written in red better than things written in blue. Bright colours like orange and yellow can be used to highlight important phrases. 

Now, they don’t work for everyone, but mnemonics can prove to be an excellent learning tool for some. They help condense a lot of information into simple phonetic words, abbreviations, limericks, etc., that are much easier to remember. 

Using flashcards is not about bombarding your brain with information. There is a method to the madness. Using certain techniques can help you streamline your revision process by using flashcards in an efficient, time-effective manner. Here are a few tips to help you use revision cards: 

One idea per card

Most people who use revision cards try to fit in too much information on them. A revision card is supposed to be a bite-sized factoid that your brain can digest and remember with ease. You can break down complex topics into several simple thoughts, each of which then gets its own card. 

Keep the sentences short

The revision cards don’t even need to have full sentences on them. Using an appropriate amount of keywords to convey an idea makes a flashcard work best. After you are done creating the cards, review the information on them and strike out any details that seem unnecessary. 

Mind the size! ✋

As a rule of thumb, revision cards are supposed to be ‘pocket-sized’. Anything bigger than that becomes a hassle to manage. Pocket-sized cards can be flipped through and carried anywhere easily. 

Use spaced repetition

Spaced repetition is one of the most successful revision strategies. It involves testing how much you remember at frequent intervals to help reiterate information and recall the information you are learning.

Once you are done testing, you can separate the topics (cards) into three piles: 

• Need more practice
• Need a lot of practice

The third pile will contain the topics you are unsure about and will need to be revised and tested the most frequently. Once you are confident about the topics from that pile, you can be moved to the other two. 🔝

Is using revision cards enough? 

In most cases, no. While revision cards are a great learning tool for certain topics, others may require more engaging approaches. Subjects like organic chemistry that require you to picture everything in 3D might be better revised with pictures, videos and 3D models. 

Other revision techniques like mind maps , quizzes , flowcharts, etc., can also be used to supplement revision cards depending on the topic. The goal should be to find the combination that helps you revise best.

You should prepare for your examinations with enough time to go through a round of revisions. This can help you to retain more information and perform better on exams. Good luck!

Our offices will be closed from 2pm 23rd Dec. till 3rd Jan. 2023. However, we will be processing website orders, on 80% of the products (see timings below).

Friday 23rd Dec. Order cut off time 1:30pm will be delivered on 28th Dec. Orders placed after 23rd cut off time and before 2pm on 30th Dec. will be delivered 3rd Jan 2023 only if a next day option is chosen or the value of the order is over the free carriage threshold (UK standard postcodes only, excluding those deemed as Highlands and Island etc.). All orders after 30th Dec. will not be processed till 3rd Jan. 2023 and despatched according to the chosen method for delivery.

The Government announced that Monday 19th September 2022 will be a national bank holiday. This is to enable individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign. As a mark of respect, we will follow the Government guidance and will be closed on this day.

Any orders placed on Monday will be treated as placed on Tuesday and sent out according to the shipping time requested at the checkout.

Please note we have been informed that most couriers will also not be delivering on Monday, therefore all two-day deliveries placed on Thursday (before cut-off time) will be delivered on Tuesday and all next day deliveries placed on Friday (before cut-off times) will also be delivered on Tuesday.

We will be Closed on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August. Orders placed on Friday 26th (if next day option is chosen) will be delivered on Tuesday 30th and other delivery options on Wednesday or Thursday not taking into account any courier issues, which at present are delivering 99% of the items on time.

Orders placed on Monday will be treated as being placed on Tuesday and delivery timings will apply accordingly.

The office will be closed on Monday 29th May.

Orders collected from us on Friday 26th May (Received before 5pm) will have the first delivery attempted on Tuesday 30th May or 31st May depending on the service level chosen.

Multi-coloured revision & presentation cards

We offer free delivery on all orders over £ 75 excluding VAT. Most free delivery orders will be delivered within 1-3 working days. You can however expediate delivery to a next day service for orders placed before 12 noon by paying an extra cost for the delivery.

All orders under £ 75 excluding delivery will carry a cost for delivery that varies between £3.50 to £10.00 excluding VAT. The option for these will appear at the checkout depending on the weight and the speed of delivery required. Free deliveries and charged deliveries apply to the UK mainland only (excluding the Highlands and other remote parts of the Country). Please call or email us for delivery costs outside of the UK mainland including the Highlands and Islands.

We will do our utmost to deliver items in the required time but as we use couriers we can never guarantee that this will always be the case. Once the item leaves our warehouse we will endeavour to track it and call the couriers to ensure the items are delivered on time, but we would appreciate a call or an email if the item has not been received in the expected period of time.

Items will be be sent by either post or courier. Generally up to 85% of the goods available are sent out the same day for overnight delivery (if requested). Some items such as furniture or special order items can take up to 14 days. If your item is required urgently please contact us prior to placing an order by email or telephone to confirm. (UK Mainland only, excluding the Scottish Highlands, Islands and other remote areas)

Deliveries are made up to 6pm and someone should be available to receive them. If no one is available then a card will be left and a further attempt will be made generally within 48 hours.

If Item is not accepted by you for any reason, then the postage expenses shall be paid by you and a cancellation charge of a minimum of 20% of the order value will be charged for any such non acceptance.

We will accept returns provided that they have not been opened and are sent back in perfect selling condition (this includes any retail packaging). Returns must be received back to us within 7 working days of receipt. There will be a 20% re-stocking fee applied to most returns, we may waive this fee at our discretion in certain circumstances.

We are unable to accept any returns for shipments that have been made outside mainland UK. We are also unable to accept returns or cancellations on special orders. Special order items also includes Plan Chests, Plan Filing Cabinets and Bobby Trolley's.

Any items that are damaged need to be reported within 24 hours of receipt. Any damages reported outside this period will not be accepted. Replacement orders will be sent carriage free ASAP.

Please email us before trying to return any item as you will require an RMA number otherwise your return will be rejected.
