Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees, general eligibility criteria and Exam pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2023

Submission of application for PhD Programme will be online only. The candidate can only apply for one Programme as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
Application Fee for submission of online application is Rs 1000.
Application fee is non-refundable.
The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time. Appendix II of the Information Brochure may be referred in this regard.
No request for change in reservation category, shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2023).
Candidates awarded with fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, as per the validity specified by the regulatory bodies, shall be exempted from Entrance Test and their selection will be based on interview. These candidates shall be considered as Category- A. Such candidates have to upload their valid fellowship award letter from the concerned implementing / awarding agency.
For Category A Candidates , interview shall carry 100% weightage. All eligible candidates from Category A will be called for the interview.
For Category B Candidates , the Entrance Test shall carry a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage shall be given to the interview. Those who secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons and EWS) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.

Stage II: Interview:

Eligible candidates from Category A & Category B shall be called for interview before the Discipline Specific Admission committee. Information in this regard shall be uploaded on the University website. The respective disciplines/ schools will communicate regarding the requirement for the interview.
The interview shall have three components comprising Research Methodology (40%) Subject domain (40%) and Communication Skills (20%).
Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.
A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, on the fulfillment of the following conditions :
Candidates who have completed:
A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

Syllabus and Question paper

a) The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022 comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject. The syllabus for each discipline is annexed at Appendix III of information brochure.
b) The question paper shall have questions consisting of 50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject .

You need to register first, before filling of the online entrance application form.
Click on the button NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
Fill in the UserName and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
Remember, while choosing your UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the "LOGIN" button.

Note: It is suggested to scan documents from your originals. Once you have uploaded the document, click the next button you will get the further information related to online application which you need to fill up.
After the final submission of online application form, download the filled in application form, take the printout and enclose the hardcopies/photocopies of all the documents and certificates as mentioned in the student handbook and prospectus to be submitted during counseling for final admission.

Applicants are advised to submit onle application only, as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
Eligibility for appearing in the Entrance Test is subject to the candidate fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the IGNOU Regulations for conduct of Research Programmes which is as under:

A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, provided he/she:

* Note : Applicants are requested to carefully go through the eligibility criteria as per the details mentioned at Annexure –II and make sure that they fulfill the same. If any discrepancy is found at a later stage, the University reserves all the rights to not consider such cases.

8. 9. Weightage of Entrance Test is 70% and 30% weightage is for the Interview.

10. 50% is the qualifying marks in the Entrance Test for Open Category. For SC/ST/OBC, EWS /PWD, the qualifying mark is 45% .

11. Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited applications for its various PhD programmes for the July 2021 session. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct entrance examinations for admission to the PhD courses offered by the university. Interested candidates can apply for the programmes at ignou.nta.nic.in. The last date to apply is December 22.

NTA will conduct the entrance exam on January 16, 2022. The duration of the exam will be 3 hours and the timings would be 10am to 1pm.

IGNOU PhD admission: How to apply

Apply for online registration using email Id and mobile number
Fill in the online application form and note down the system generated application number.
Upload scanned images of a recent photograph, candidate’s signature, PwD certificate (if any)
Pay fee through net banking or debit card or credit card or UPI and keep proof of fee paid.
Download the application form
Take a printout of the form for future reference

Eligibility criteria for admission to PhD programme are as follows:

Master's Degree from a University recognized by UGC in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks ( for General Category) in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and [50%marks in the case of SC,ST and OBC(Non-creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's Degree prior to 19th September,1991] excluding grace marks.

Registration fee, Cancellation of Admission and Refund of Fee

A non-refundable Registration Fee shall be charged along with the programme fee of first semester/year at the time of admission.

If a student applies for cancellation of application/admission and refund of fee, the refund request will be considered as per the University policy as under:

Before confirmation of admission: Full Programme fee paid shall be refunded.

After confirmation of admission:

Within 15 days of confirmation of admission : Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.500/- .

Within 16-90 days of confirmation of admission: Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.1000/- .

After 90 days of confirmation of admission: No refund shall be allowed.

IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Admission 2024-25: The IGNOU Ph.D. in Computer Science admission window was closed for the January session, selection is based on the entrance exam. The application form was closed and it was available at the IGNOU official website. IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Admission 2024-25 was last date was 31 January 2024.

The entrance exam will be conducted by IGNOU for the Ph.D. program before admission. The charge for the application form is Rs. 1,000/- , which is a non-refundable amount.

IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Highlights

IGNOU offers PhD in a computer science course. Those candidates who have an MCA or MSC in Computer Science, IT, Mtech in computer science, or any equivalent course can apply for this course. Students have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 1000/- while they are applying for PhD Computer Science Admission.

The IGNOU University provides a Doctor of Philosophy Computer Science course approved by UGC. This is a master’s degree-level course. The university conducts admission for PhD courses every year. Students Who are Qualified for the entrance test at the National level have to attend an interview, those who have been selected to pursue a course have to complete an Interview session which will conducted from 9 to 10 April 2024 .

IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Course Fees:

If aspirants want to apply online, then they should pay a total program fee of INR 16,800 along with the INR 1,000 registration fee. Fees must be charged electronically and submitted with the form. Also, if the students are interested in applying for the course offline, they can do so by sending a demand draft to the center where the course is offered if they wish to submit an offline application.

IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Eligibility:

The course offers admission through two categories:

Category A:

Phil or M.Tech degree in Computer science with at least 55 % marks. They must appear for entrance test exams, Any student who gets good marks in UGC NET/GATE can get admission easily.
IGNOU Doctor of Philosophy Computer Science is a 3-year long doctorate level degree certification in the area of computer science and its related aspects and the minimum eligibility criterion for admission is 55% marks in M.Phil or any other equivalent level subject.
Master’s degree in IT/computer science from a reputable university with at least 60% marks. These students are also required to qualify for UGC NET/GATE exams.

Selected students will be shortlisted further based on research proposals and presentations before the doctoral committee.

IGNOU PhD in Computer Science Application Process 2024-25

IGNOU Doctor of Philosophy Computer Science Course provides both online and offline procedures to pursue the course.
Both approaches necessitate obtaining an application form and filling it out absolutely. After that, submit the form along with the necessary documents and fee receipt to the concerned department.

IGNOU Ph.D. in Computer Science Exam Form

IGNOU Ph.D. in Computer Science Exam Form deadline is 31 March 2024* till 06:00 PM of December TEE, without any late fee. Candidates can fill out the exam form before the deadline, otherwise, they will not be eligible for the December term-end examination.

IGNOU has released the final date sheet for the June TEE for the Ph.D. in Computer Science exam last date will be on 31 March 2024.

IGNOU Ph.D. in Computer Science Assignments

IGNOU Ph.D. in Computer Science Assignments submission is Started for June 2024 Term-end Examination 2024. Candidate can submit their assignment before the deadline date of 31 March 2024 at the official University portal or students can also visit the nearby regional center. If any candidate does not submit an assignment before the deadline they will not be eligible for the term-end examination.

Read below to know the exam pattern, marking scheme and exam day guidelines for IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2022

India Gandhi National Open University, IGNOU will be conducting its PhD entrance exam tomorrow – February 24, 2022. Admit cards were released for the candidates on February 21, 2022 on the official website – ignou.nta.ac.in .

IGNOU conducts an entrance exam for admission into its PhD courses every year. This year, National Testing Agency, NTA will be conducting the entrance exam for IGNOU PhD admissions for the session of 2021-22. The IGNOU PhD 2022 Exam will be conducted across India in various centres.

IGNOU PhD Exam 2022 – Exam Pattern

The PhD entrance exam will be conducted offline but through Computer Based Tests. Candidates will be given a total of 100 questions. Out of these 50 will be based on Research Methodology and 50 questions based on the course the candidates wish to enroll in. Each question carries 4 (four) marks and no negative marking will be done for incorrect answers.

The total marks for the IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2022 is 400. The test will be conducted in Hindi and English medium.

IGNOU PhD Exam 2022 – Marking Scheme

As mentioned before, each question carries 4 marks. Un-attempted questions will be given no marks. Afte the conclusion of the exam, an answer key will be issued by NTA on ignou.nta.ac.in and candidates will be allowed to raise objections. However, after the process of raising objections, in case there are multiple correct options or change in key, only those candidates who have attempted it correctly as per the final answer key will be given marks.

In case a Question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks will be awarded to all the candidates regardless of whether they have attempted the question or not.

Candidates can download their admit cards from the above-mentioned link. Candidates must carry their admit cards to their respective centres to be allowed entry into the examination hall. More guidelines for exam day have been given below

IGNOU PhD Exam 2022 – Important Guidelines

Candidates should print a copy of Admit Card from the NTA website and carry it with them on the day of the exam.
Candidates must also carry One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) for pasting on the attendance sheet at the Centre.
Candidates must also carry any one photo ID authorised by the government, such as PAN card, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport or Aadhar Card.
If a candidate belongs to the PwD category, a PwD certificate issued by the Competent Authority must be carried.
Candidates are required to report to the exam centre two hours before the commencement of the exam
Registration desk will close 90 minutes prior to the commencement of the IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2022. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the hall after the desk closes.
Take your seat as soon as the hall opens. The seat allotment will be mentioned on the admit card. Any candidate found to have changed room/hall or the seat on their own would not be allowed to appear for the exam and candidature will be cancelled without further questioning.
No baggage will be allowed inside the Examination Centre

The interview schedule has been released for all courses including – Chemistry, Women Studies, Political Science, Environmental Science, Hindi, Life Science, Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies, Geology, Mathematics, Anthropology, Urdu and Child Development. Candidates who will appear for the interview can follow these simple steps to download interview schedule.

The written examination result was declared on April 2, 2022. The examination was conducted on February 24 in 30 Cities across the country in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. A total of 18687 candidates had registered for the examination out of which 9196 candidates had appeared for the examination. Ignou phd 2022 exam pattern, ignou phd 2022 instructions, prior to entering the examination center:.

Arrive at the exam centre one hour before the time listed on your admission card.
Please have a full breakfast or a light lunch before departing for the location, depending on the programme. Drink lots of fluids, as dehydration can develop up throughout the heat, harming your exam performance.
Just before entering the centre, eat a cookie or a chocolate bar; this will avoid hypoglycemia and help you stay attentive longer, increasing your outcomes.
If it's a crowded shopping centre, don't put off the admission and security checks until the last minute.
You will not be permitted to enter after the time limit for closing the doors has passed.
The Admit Card is required for entry to the Exam Center; no applicants shall be admitted without it.
Normally, no luggage are permitted.
No food is permitted.
Mobile phones, pagers, wireless sets, scanners, cameras, or any other electronic or digital device are not permitted in the exam centre; bringing one will result in disqualification.

As soon as you enter the centre:

Candidates should find their allotted hall and seat once they arrive at the facility.
Before entering the centre, applicants will be hand frisked, photographed, and video graphed if specified.
After completing all of the requirements, applicants should proceed to the allocated venue and take a seat.
Rough work is to be done in the space given for this purpose on Objective Type question sheets. Under no circumstances is rough work permitted on the OMR Answer Sheet.
Only the answer sheet is to be used to answer questions.
Inside the Test Centre, copying, using dishonest techniques of any type, talking, asking questions of other candidates, and borrowing of material are all strictly forbidden.
The applicants must hand in their OMR answer sheets as well as the entire question paper to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or removing the question paper is prohibited, and applicants who do so will be disqualified from the whole Entrance Test.
It is not permitted to smoke.
Any type of misbehaviour can result in the candidate's expulsion.
If you are caught copying or assisting in copying, your answer sheet will be cancelled, and your candidacy will be cancelled.
Any marking on the answer sheet or question paper will result in the test being cancelled.

The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy is granted for research work in areas recognized by the Academic Departments / Centres of the Institute. The research work shall be an original work characterized either by the discovery of facts, or by a fresh approach towards the interpretation and application of facts, or development of equipment making a distinct advancement in instrument technology. It shall evince the candidate’s capacity for critical examination and sound judgment and shall represent original contribution to the existing knowledge. The Institute is also recognized as one of the centres in the country for Ph.D. programmes under QIP. Facilities for enrolling for the Ph.D. programme as a part time candidate are also available.

All Ph.D. candidates have to appear in the Ph.D-Course work Examination and has to score more than 60% marks failing which the course work will be repeated in next semester.
After successful completion of Course Work, Guide will be allotted to candidates.
Candidate has to appear for Presentation of Topic and Research Proposal within 12-24 weeks after Course work result compulsorily otherwise a penalty of 5000/- will be imposed on the candidate.
RDC presentation will be held in the supervision of External Examiner (Subject Expert).
Finalization/Modification of the topic if any is to be submitted within 8 weeks of the date of RDC, otherwise candidate has to reappear in RDC by submitting the penalty of 5000/-
Evaluation of Modification of the topic will be held and the letter of RDC with the final topic will be published and will be sent to the candidate as well as Guide/Supervisor.
After topic approval from RDC, the Candidate has to present his work within 12-24 weeks of the date of finalization of the topic. This presentation will be internal and will be held in front of the University subject expert and Guide.
After Completion of research work, the candidate has to present his/her work in front of External Examiner (Subject Expert) and has to defend his work.
This pre-thesis presentation must be held in between 36-48 weeks of finalization of the topic.
Candidate has to submit his/her the complete thesis in Examination cell with Plagiarism report in spiral binding (2 hard copies) and 2 CDs/DVDs (soft copies).
Research Advisory Committee will also, check the plagiarism before sending it to evaluators.
After getting an evaluation of thesis and correction/Modification if any, the final date of Viva/Defence will be notified to the candidate as well as one of the thesis evaluators as External Examiner.
Candidate has to submit his/her thesis in hardbound (6 copies) to Examination cell on or before the date of the final defense.

Ph.D. Admission Categories & Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be classified under any one of the following categories which will be decided and recommended by DRC/CRC.

Full-time Research Scholar

Part-time Research Scholar

a. In-Service Internal Research Scholar
b. In-Service External Research Scholar

An applicant belonging to the above category should possess the following minimum qualifications in appropriate areas to be eligible to apply for admission for the Ph.D. programme of the Institute.

1. Master’s degree with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10 point scale, or 60% marks for the General, GEN-EWS and OBC category.

For SC / ST or PWD candidates, the minimum CGPA requirements may be relaxed to 5.50 on a 10 point scale or to 55% marks.

Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science Or Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following:

Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
The selection process through National Level Examinations conducted by MHRD and its Agencies and Institutes such as UGC/IIT/IISc/IISER etc.

2. For candidates other than Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs), B.Tech / B. Arch / B. Pharm degree or equivalent with a GATE / GPAT/NET score (marks) and a minimum CGPA of 7.50 on a 10 point scale or 75% marks, irrespective of the category.

For graduates from CFTIs, the minimum CGPA requirement is relaxed to 7.0 on a 10 point scale or 70% marks.

3. CGPA or percentage of marks in aggregate, in case marks are awarded, of all years / semesters will be considered. If the CGPA is awarded on a scale other than a 10 point scale, proportionate concession to a 10 point scale will be considered.

4. The requirement of GATE / GPAT / JRF / NET score (marks) is not applicable to candidates in ISERS or P-ISIRS or P-ISERS category.

5. Bachelors or Masters from IITs with a CGPA 8.0 and above on 10 scale point scale are exempted from the requirement of GATE / GPAT / JRF /NET.

6. Candidates pursuing Master’s programs in Engineering or Architecture / Planning in the University have CGPA 8.50 and above, shall have a choice of lateral entry to the Ph.D. program after completing first two semesters of the Master’s program.

7. Candidates with MBBS / BDS degree from an Indian Universities / Institution shall have minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale, or 60% in the qualifying degree, irrespective of the category. They are exempt from the GATE / GPAT / JRF / NET requirement.

8. Candidates with Master of Surgery (MS)/ Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a Indian University / Institute are exempt from the minimum CGPA as well as the GATE / GPAT / JRF / NET requirement.

9. Candidates with a medicine degree from an overseas university / institute should have qualified the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination conducted by the National Board of Examination.

10. Candidates with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) / Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status will be treated at par with Indian Nationals in the General Category.

Note: (1) Candidates under OBC-NC and Economically Weaker Sections category must submit a copy of valid certificate, issued after 31st March, 2021, as per GOI issued by a competent authority. Reservation shall be applicable as per the GOI Norms.

At the time of registration, the candidates should have at least two years' experience in a Government / Semi-Government organization/Public Sector Undertaking, AICTE / UGC recognized educational institute, or a registered company with an annual turnover of more than Rs. Twenty Crores. They should have permission from the employer for pursuing the Ph.D. program with adequate leave of absence to complete the course work requirements. This requirement of leave of absence is waived off for candidates working within 100 km of the institute. Candidates in P-ISIRS category should, in addition, be regular employees of the institute.

Note: The eligibility conditions given above are the absolute minimum. Departments / Centres may prescribe any requirements over and above these. Reservation is applicable as per extant policies of the Government of India and prescribed by the Board of Governors.

How to Apply for PhD Admission?

Students can apply directly through online mode on the university official website. Candidates must follow the following Steps while applying online Application Form.

Visit the official website of University.
Find the notification page
Click on the apply online for M.Phil Ph.D. Entrance Exam Button.
Fill all the required details in the columns.
After that upload a passport size photo (size not more than 200kb).
Re-check all the details filled in the application form and then click on the submit button.
Now proceed to pay the entrance cum registration through an available mode of payment.
Selection process is purely based on merit.
Selection process shall be conducted online.
Stipulated dates for a written test and /or interview shall be communicated by the concerned departments/centres to the shortlisted candidates. Simultaneously, the dates shall be uploaded in the portal of each department/centre.
The prescribed qualifications and experience are the minimum required and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle him/her for being called for an interview.
Departments / Centres of the Institute reserve the right to restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number, on the basis of qualifications and/or experience.
Provision exists to apply in one or more departments / centres. Accordingly, a candidate can submit his/her application in one or more departments through single online application.
All entries should be carefully made while applying online. The University will not be responsible for wrong entries. Candidates shall be sole responsible for the correctness and authenticity of the information / documents provided in the online application.
Eligibility of candidate with regard to qualification & experience shall be calculated / considered with reference to last date of the online application.
Candidates must fill/enter their CGPA or percentage of marks as issued by their institute/college/university. Candidate must not convert their CGPA into percentage and vice-versa.
Online application submitted by the candidates shall be considered final and binding. Requests for making correction in the online application shall not be entertained.
Candidates should submit complete online application in all respect. No correspondence / communication will be entertained for incomplete application.
The last date for submission of online application shall not be extended. Accordingly, no request shall be entertained for accepting the application after the last date. The University will not be responsible for technical error while making the online application / payment of fee. Therefore, candidates are advised to submit their application well in advance without waiting until the last date
Online / Offline applications will be scrutinized; relevant documents will be checked / verified for their authenticity.
Admission will be offered subject to availability of seats, faculty in the Specialization and the Institute Assistantship.
Students shall be governed by ordinance/ regulations in vogue.
The Institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of the candidate who is found admitted to a course to which he/she is not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.
The Institute reserves the right to verify the antecedents or documents submitted by the candidate at any time during their period of study. In case it is found that the documents submitted by the candidate are not genuine, then his/her admission shall be terminated, and disciplinary / criminal proceedings will be initiated.
The candidates should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions as specified. Their admission will be purely provisional subject to confirmation that they satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions. Mere issue of call letters to the candidates will not imply that his/her candidature has been found eligible.

PhD courses consist of both normal academic classroom sessions and research work.
The research work plays a major role in PhD courses.
The structure of a PhD course includes course work, qualifying examination, research proposal preparation and thesis work.

ANSWER: - The Ph.D. and M.Phil. programs of prestigious University are conducted and guided strictly as per the provisions and regulations dictated by the UGC (Minimum Standards andProcedure for Award of Ph.D./M.Phil. Degrees) (1st Amendment) Regulations, 2018 and subsequent amendments. The entire procedure for admission to the research programs encompasses a Research Entrance Exam (RET) and then an Interview/Viva Voce. The performance of a candidate in the RET is given 70% weightage, and the remaining 30% weightage is given to his/her performance at the Interview.

ANSWER: - Both the full-time and part-time modes are available at University for pursuing its Ph.D. programs and only full time mode is available for M.Phil. program in the desired subjects/fields. These highly-qualitative and prolific research programs are available in a rather broad range of fields/subjects. At University, the minimum time-duration of the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs is 1.5 Years and 3 Years, respectively, in general.

ANSWER: - Yes, of course. If the University is properly recognized under the section 2(f) of the UGC Act of 1956, and is a prestigious member of the AIU (the Association of Indian Universities). Its M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees granted in various fields/subjects are duly valid across India and the world.

ANSWER: - The following are the main eligibility conditions for participating in the RET: - A rigorous Master’s Degree in the proposed subject/field obtained from any recognized university/institution located in India or abroad, with a minimum 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled categories are given a 5% relaxation in respect of this eligibility criterion. Candidates with an M.Phil. degree in the proposed field/subject, or have qualified the UGC (JRF) Examinations/ NET/ SET/ SELT, etc., will be allowed to appear directly for the interview, without appearing in the RET. Impressive academic records, and any prior experience in research works, will be given additional advantages.

ANSWER: - Candidates belonging to the categories of SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, and so on, are given all relaxations prescribed by the Govt. of India and the UGC. These relaxations are provided in form of 5% reduced marks for them at post graduation, and also in the minimum qualifying marks at RET. Thus, candidates belonging to these categories only need to score a minimum of 45% marks at RET, to qualify for the final interview.

ANSWER: - The syllabus or pattern of RET consists of subject-specific matters, and research methodology and aptitude (covering logical reasoning, numerical ability, analytical reasoning, statistics, etc.).Thus, RET will contain a total of 70 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

ANSWER: - Yes. The holders of M.Phil. degree in their respective fields/subjects are made exempt from appearing in RET. The same is the situation in cases of the aspiring candidates who have qualified exams like UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ GATE, etc.

ANSWER: - The Application Fee (i.e. the fee for getting participated in RET) can be paid online or offline, like the Application Form. Payment Modes: DD (in Favor of the University) / NEFT/ Cash Deposit.

ANSWER: - Yes, necessarily. Working Professionals those are interested in research at any University are required to obtain the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from their respective employers, in order to avert any intrusion ever during the entire doctoral course.

ANSWER: - Yes. M.Phil. holders are again required to undergo the coursework in Ph.D. at some Universities. However, their prior knowledge in the field/subject will be very supportive to them for learning and performing efficiently during the Ph.D. program.

ANSWER: - Yes, you can pay the yearly course fee as many as in two installments, but well within the yearly session.

ANSWER: - Yes, of course. Many Universities does offer scholarship as well as stipend to the meritorious and talented candidates who undertake research studies at the University. Scholarships are granted to those candidates who come under top 21 by scoring higher marks in RET and interview. And, stipends are provided to those scholars who also give lectures to UG or PG students at the University, in addition to doing their Ph.D. coursework. The amount of monthly stipend will be commensurate with candidate’s qualification and capabilities and may go up to Rs. 20,000.
