Short Essay on Health in 100 Words

Health is an important aspect of one’s life. A person is considered healthy when he or she is free from illness or injury. Health can be categorised as physical health, mental health, emotional health, social health, et cetera. However, all these categories are interrelated.

While low physical activity can impact overall mental health, mental stress can adversely affect heart health and poor emotional health can deteriorate one’s quality of life. Being in good health enables a person to function optimally and live their life happily.

Some of the basic rules for maintaining good health include going to bed and waking up on time, exercising regularly, eating healthily and drinking at least eight glasses of water daily.

Short Essay on Health in 200 Words

Health is one of the most important aspects of one’s life. One can be a billionaire but if he is not in good health, he can not enjoy the luxuries that money can buy. Thus, health is considered as the real wealth. Health can be categorised as physical health, mental health, emotional health, social health, et cetera.

However, all these categories are interrelated and impact each other. For example, not exercising regularly can make a person irritable and cause mental health problems, while chronic stress can lead to health diseases and diabetes. Poor emotional and psychological health can also make people withdrawn and impact their overall health.

Being in good health enables a person to function optimally and live their life happily. When one feels healthy and is not troubled by pain or discomfort in the body, he can be more active, participate in various activities and be more present in the daily happenings. Being mentally in good health is also very important as suffering from anxiety, depression and other issues can severely deteriorate one’s quality of life.

One can easily improve his health by making some changes in his lifestyle. Some of the basic rules for maintaining good health include going to bed and waking up on time, exercising regularly, eating healthily and drinking a lot of water.

Short Essay on Health in 400 Words

Health is a key aspect of one’s life. A person is considered healthy when he is free from all illness and injury and can conduct his life well. One can be a billionaire but if he is not in good health, he can not enjoy the luxuries that money can buy. Thus, health is considered as the real wealth and being in good health is very important. Health can be categorised as physical health, mental health, emotional health, social health, et cetera.

Everyone can be healthy but good health does not come without the necessary discipline and care. Going to bed and waking up on time, exercising regularly, avoiding junk food, eating healthily, drinking a lot of water and getting some sunlight are a few good habits that can improve one’s health. However, it cannot be achieved in a day. One needs to change their lifestyle and practice healthy habits daily.

Sometimes, one’s external environment can also be the reason for their poor health. Living in shabby conditions, breathing in heavily polluted air, consuming unhygienic food and contaminated water can more often than not, result in bacterial, fungal and viral diseases. Hence, cleanliness is an important factor if one wants to be healthy. One should also take care of their diet and include greens and other nutritious food, limit their caffeine intake, stop smoking and drinking as well as follow the basic health protocols.

Good health is necessary if one wants to achieve their goal in life. One cannot study well or work hard when they are not feeling at ease or are suffering from pain. Adopting a healthy lifestyle makes us healthy and boosts our energy as well as immunity. Thus, good health is the key to enjoying a good life.

Essay On My Life My Health Essay

Health, as universally acknowledged, is paramount to our existence. It significantly impacts our ability to perform daily activities, contributes to our educational performance, and dictates our capacity for personal growth. The absence of good health hinders our ability to derive satisfaction and fulfillment from life. This essay meticulously explores the intricacies of my life and health practices and provides a comprehensive overview of the measures I undertake to maintain optimal health.

My Life My Health Essay paragraphs

The Integral Role of Nutritious Food

The cornerstone of good health is undoubtedly the consumption of nutritious food. An old adage passed down through generations in my family, and perhaps many others, is that “you are what you eat.” This simple yet profound statement encapsulates the concept that our dietary intake directly influences our health status.

My personal preference leans towards the consumption of fruits and vegetables such as apples, bananas, carrots, and broccoli, and whole grains like brown rice and oatmeal. These food items are a treasure trove of essential vitamins and nutrients, providing the essential elements required for a healthy, robust bodily function. By consciously making healthier food choices, I equip my body with the necessary tools to remain fit and agile, enabling me to pursue my interests and passions with vigor.

The Significance of Regular Physical Activity

Next in the hierarchy of factors contributing to good health is regular physical activity. An active lifestyle promotes physical fitness, effectively combating the development of lifestyle diseases such as obesity and diabetes. But that’s not all – physical activities are also a source of enjoyment, and they help in mood regulation, thereby ensuring mental well-being.

Personally, soccer serves as my chosen means of physical exercise. The exhilarating game allows me to unwind and relax, providing a much-needed respite from academic pursuits. When coupled with the camaraderie of friends and the joy of competition, soccer serves as a potent tool to keep me physically fit while boosting my mood and concentration levels, inevitably contributing to enhanced academic performance.

The Necessity of Good Hygiene Practices

Health is not merely about diet and exercise; it encompasses various factors, one of which is hygiene. Good hygiene practices are crucial in preventing the spread of harmful germs and diseases. My personal hygiene routine involves washing hands before and after meals and restroom use, brushing teeth twice daily, and ensuring regular showers. These practices safeguard against infections and diseases, thus contributing to overall health.

The Importance of Regular Health Check-Ups

Another crucial aspect of maintaining optimal health is regular medical check-ups. These visits to the doctor, while seemingly mundane, play an essential role in health management. They provide an opportunity to assess overall health status, detect potential health issues at an early stage, and initiate necessary interventions in a timely manner.

Concluding Remarks

In conclusion, maintaining good health is a multifaceted process that requires consistent effort. It involves making healthier food choices, engaging in regular physical activity, adhering to good hygiene practices, and undergoing regular health checks. I firmly believe that these practices form the bedrock of a healthy life, and I am committed to upholding them in my endeavor to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. The essence of the phrase “health is wealth” rings true in my life, and I strive to ensure that my health remains at its pinnacle.

Sample Essay On Health in 150 Words

Maintaining good health is dependent on a lot of factors. Those factors range from the air you breathe to the type of people you choose to spend your time with. Health has a lot of components which carry equal importance. If even one of them is missing, a person cannot be completely healthy.Health is our most valuable asset. It encompasses physical, mental, and emotional well-being, shaping our lives profoundly. A healthy lifestyle, characterized by a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep, is essential. It not only prevents diseases but also boosts energy and productivity.

Mental health is equally vital, requiring stress management and emotional support. Regular check-ups aid in early disease detection, increasing the chances of successful treatment. Good health influences longevity and quality of life, allowing us to pursue dreams and cherish moments with loved ones. It also eases the financial burden associated with illness. Ultimately, health is the foundation of a joyful, fulfilling existence, and its importance cannot be overstated.

Sample Essay On Health in 300 Words

Health is undeniably one of the most precious aspects of life. It encompasses not only the absence of diseases but also the presence of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In this essay, we will explore the multifaceted importance of health in our lives.

Firstly, physical health is the cornerstone of our existence. It allows us to carry out daily activities, pursue our passions, and engage with the world. Maintaining good physical health involves a balanced diet that provides essential nutrients, regular exercise to keep our bodies fit, and sufficient rest to recuperate. A healthy lifestyle not only prevents various ailments but also increases our vitality and longevity.

There is this stigma that surrounds mental health. People should take mental illnesses seriously. In order to be completely fit, one must also be mentally fit. When people completely discredit mental illnesses, it makes a negative impact. Hence, we should treat mental health the same as physical health.

Mental health is equally crucial. It involves managing stress, maintaining emotional stability, and seeking support when needed. Neglecting mental health can lead to conditions like anxiety and depression, which can have a profound impact on the quality of life.

Moreover, health plays a pivotal role in determining our overall happiness and well-being. When we are in good health, we have the energy and enthusiasm to enjoy life to the fullest. It enhances our productivity at work or in our daily chores, leading to a sense of accomplishment.

Furthermore, health is closely linked to financial stability. Medical expenses associated with illness can be overwhelming. Maintaining good health through preventive measures and regular check-ups can save us from substantial healthcare costs.

In conclusion, health is not merely the absence of illness; it is the presence of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

my health my life short essay

Introduction

My life and my health are two essential aspects that are crucial for my overall well-being. Life and health are inextricably intertwined, and they play a critical role in determining my happiness and success. The importance of life and health cannot be overstated, and as such, it is vital to take the necessary steps to ensure that I am in good health and living a fulfilling life. In this essay, I will discuss my life and health journey, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the significance of healthcare, and how I overcome health challenges.

Understanding Life and Health

Life is defined as the period between birth and death, and it is a precious gift that should be cherished and nurtured. Health, on the other hand, refers to the state of being free from illness or injury. The relationship between life and health is intricate, and one cannot exist without the other. If I am not in good health, I cannot enjoy my life to the fullest, and if I do not have a good quality of life, my health can deteriorate. Factors such as genetics, lifestyle, environment , and healthcare access can significantly affect my life and health.

My Life and Health Journey

My life and health journey began in childhood. As a child, I was very active and enjoyed playing outdoors. My parents always encouraged me to eat healthy foods, and they made sure I had access to quality healthcare. As I entered adolescence, I became more self-aware and conscious of my health. I started paying attention to what I ate, and I began to exercise regularly. However, I also faced some challenges during this period, such as peer pressure, stress, and anxiety, which affected my mental health.

In adulthood, I have continued to prioritize my health by staying physically active and eating a balanced diet. I have also learned to manage stress and other mental health issues through therapy and self-care practices such as meditation and mindfulness. However, I have encountered some health challenges, such as chronic back pain and migraines, which have required medical intervention.

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential for my overall well-being. There are three aspects of health that I focus on: physical, mental, and social. To maintain good physical health, I engage in regular exercise and follow a balanced diet. I make sure to incorporate a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, into my meals. I also make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Mental health is just as crucial as physical health, and I make an effort to take care of my mental health through various means. I practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, journaling, and spending time in nature. I also make sure to get enough sleep each night to ensure that I am well-rested and refreshed.

Social health involves cultivating healthy relationships and communication skills. I make an effort to spend time with friends and family, and I practice active listening and effective communication in my relationships. Building a strong support network has been instrumental in helping me maintain good mental health.

The Importance of Healthcare

Healthcare is a critical aspect of life and health. It is essential for preventing illness, managing chronic conditions, and addressing acute medical issues. There are different levels of healthcare, including preventive, primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Preventive care involves taking measures to avoid illness or injury, such as getting vaccinated and having regular check-ups with a healthcare provider. Primary care involves routine medical care, such as regular check-ups and treatment for minor illnesses. Secondary care involves specialized medical care, such as surgery or hospitalization, while tertiary care involves highly specialized medical care, such as intensive care or specialized surgeries.

Overcoming Health Challenges

Overcoming health challenges can be a difficult and challenging process. Common health issues such as colds, flu, and minor injuries can usually be managed with rest and over-the-counter medications. However, chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders can be more complex and require ongoing medical care and management.

For me, one of the most significant health challenges I have faced is chronic back pain. This condition has affected my quality of life and my ability to engage in physical activities that I enjoy. To overcome this challenge, I have worked with my healthcare provider to develop a management plan that includes physical therapy, medication, and lifestyle modifications. I have also incorporated exercise and stretching into my daily routine to help manage my pain.

Another health challenge that I have faced is migraines. These headaches can be debilitating, and they can significantly affect my ability to work and carry out daily activities. To overcome this challenge, I have worked with my healthcare provider to identify triggers and develop a management plan that includes medication and lifestyle modifications.

Life and health are essential aspects of overall well-being. Understanding the relationship between the two and taking steps to maintain good health and a fulfilling life can lead to greater happiness and success. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through physical, mental, and social practices is vital, as is access to quality healthcare. Overcoming health challenges can be a difficult and challenging process, but with proper management and support, it is possible to live a fulfilling life despite health issues. Ultimately, prioritizing life and health should be a lifelong commitment to oneself, as the benefits of doing so are immeasurable.

Health Is Wealth Essay for Students and Children

500+ words health is wealth essay.

Growing up you might have heard the term ‘Health is Wealth’, but its essential meaning is still not clear to most people. Generally, people confuse good health with being free of any kind of illness. While it may be part of the case, it is not entirely what good health is all about. In other words, to lead a healthy life , a person must be fit and fine both physically and mentally. For instance, if you are constantly eating junk food yet you do not have any disease, it does not make you healthy. You are not consuming healthy food which naturally means you are not healthy, just surviving. Therefore, to actually live and not merely survive, you need to have the basic essentials that make up for a healthy lifestyle.

health is wealth essay

Introduction

Life is about striking a balance between certain fundamental parts of life. Health is one of these aspects. We value health in the same way that we value time once we have lost it. We cannot rewind time, but the good news is that we can regain health with some effort. A person in good physical and mental health may appreciate the world to the fullest and meet life’s problems with ease and comfort. Health is riches implies that health is a priceless asset rather than money or ownership of material possessions. There is no point in having money if you don’t have good health.

Key Elements Of A Healthy Lifestyle

If you wish to acquire a healthy lifestyle, you will certainly have to make some changes in your life. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle demands consistent habits and disciplined life. There are various good habits that you can adopt like exercising regularly which will maintain your physical fitness. It also affects your mental health as when your appearance enhances, your confidence will automatically get boosted.

To live a healthy life, one must make some lifestyle modifications. These modifications can include changes to your food habits, sleeping routines, and lifestyle. You should eat a well-balanced, nutrient-dense diet for your physical wellness.

Further, it will prevent obesity and help you burn out extra fat from your body. After that, a balanced diet is of great importance. When you intake appropriate amounts of nutrition, vitamins, proteins, calories and more, your immune system will strengthen. This will, in turn, help you fight off diseases powerfully resulting in a disease-free life.

Above all, cleanliness plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Your balanced diet and regular exercise will be completely useless if you live in an unhealthy environment. One must always maintain cleanliness in their surroundings so as to avoid the risk of catching communicable diseases.

Benefits Of A Healthy Lifestyle

As it is clear by now, good health is a luxury which everyone wants but some of them cannot afford. This point itself states the importance of a healthy lifestyle. When a person leads a healthy lifestyle, he/she will be free from the tension of seeking medical attention every now and then.

my health my life short essay

On the contrary, if you have poor health, you will usually spend your time in a hospital and the bills will take away your mental peace. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle means you will be able to enjoy your life freely. Similarly, when you have a relaxed mind at all times, you will be able to keep your loved ones happy. A healthy individual is more likely to fulfil all of his goals because he can easily focus on them and has the energy to complete them. This is why the proverb “Health is Wealth” carries so much weight.

A socially healthy individual is one who is able to interact effectively and readily connect with others. Without his ego, he can easily blend with the person in front of him, exuding a nice feeling and energy.

Every human being should participate in sports and activities to get away from the monotony of daily life. It is because sports and games assist in instilling a sense of oneness in people, build leadership skills, and make a person absolutely disciplined.

Moreover, a healthy lifestyle will push you to do better in life and motivate you to achieve higher targets. It usually happens that people who are extremely wealthy in terms of money often lack good health. This just proves that all the riches in the world will do you no good if there is an absence of a healthy lifestyle.

In short, healthy life is the highest blessing that must not be taken for granted. It is truly the source of all happiness. Money may buy you all the luxuries in the world but it cannot buy you good health. You are solely responsible for that, so for your well-being and happiness, it is better to switch to a healthy lifestyle.

Good Health for Children

Childhood is an ideal period to inculcate healthy behaviours in children. Children’s health is determined by a variety of factors, including diet, hydration, sleep schedule, hygiene, family time, doctor visits, and physical exercise. Following are a few key points and health tips that parents should remember for their children:

  • Never allow your children to get by without nutritious food. Fruits and vegetables are essential.
  • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, therefore teach them to frequently wash their hands and feet.
  • Sleep is essential for your child.
  • Make it a habit for them to drink plenty of water.
  • Encourage physical activity and sports.
  • Allow them enough time to sleep.
  • It is critical to visit the doctor on a regular basis for checks.

Parents frequently focus solely on their children’s physical requirements. They dress up their children’s wounds and injuries and provide them with good food. The top secret of being physically fit is adopting a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle includes regular exercise, a healthy diet, taking good care of self, healthy sleep habits, and having a physically active daily routine. Lifestyle is the most prevailing factor that affects one’s fitness level. A person leading a sedentary lifestyle has a low fitness level whereas living a healthier life not only makes a person fit but also extends life. Good health has a direct impact on our personality. A person with a good and healthy lifestyle is generally more confident, self-assured, sociable, and energetic.

A good and healthy lifestyle allows one to relish and savor all the pleasures in life without any complications. Even all the wealth is less valuable when compared to sound health. Having all the luxuries in the world does not fulfill its purpose when one is continuously ill, depressed, or suffering from a significant health complication. A healthy person has a clear and calm perception of everything without prejudice. His actions and decisions are more practical and logical and are hence more successful in life.

A good habit is a key factor for a healthy lifestyle. To maintain a stable body and mind, one needs to inculcate good habits. Waking up early in the morning, regularly exercising or a good morning walk helps to keep our body energetic and refresh our mind. Maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet throughout the day is vital for maintaining a good lifestyle. Too much indulgence in alcohol or smoking excessively is not at all appropriate for a healthy lifestyle.

Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is important for maintaining a good lifestyle. When we are self-disciplined then we are more organized and regular in maintaining good health. A disciplined life is a regulated life. A man without discipline is a ship without a rudder. Discipline needs self-control. One who cannot control himself can seldom control others. The level of discipline and perseverance largely determines a person’s success. Self-discipline is the act of disciplining one’s own feelings, desires, etc. especially with the intention of improving oneself. It strengthens our willpower. The stronger our will power the positive will be our decision. It enables us to conquer our own self.

Punctuality

Punctuality is the habit of doing things on time. It is the characteristic of every successful person and everyone must observe punctuality in order to win success in life. Punctuality is necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It should become a habit with us. A punctual person is able to fulfill all his responsibilities and hence is treated with respect in society. It is needed in every walk of life.

Diet is an important component for overall fitness and works best in combination with exercise. A balanced diet and exercise regularly help to maintain good health. It is necessary to reduce weight if one is overweight or obese, failing which one cannot be physically fit for long. For people with obesity, more exercise and a strict regime are necessary, preferably under guidance. There are many ways of making the diet healthier.

Use less sugar and salt while cooking food.

Use less oil while cooking. Avoid deep-frying as much as possible.

Eat more fruits daily. They provide more vitamins and minerals to our bodies.

Add sprouts of gram and moong dal to at least one meal in a day. Add fiber to your diet. Use whole grains instead of polished cereals. Eat lots of salad and yogurt.

Eat fermented food regularly. Fermented food contains many useful bacteria that help in the process of digestion.

Prevention of Lifestyle Diseases

By adopting a healthy lifestyle one can avoid lifestyle diseases. The following are some ways in which we can prevent lifestyle diseases.

Eat a balanced diet that contains important nutrients. One must include more fresh fruits and green vegetables in the diet. Refrain from eating junk food. Stay away from foods that contain large amounts of salt or sugar.

Exercise regularly. Spend more time outdoors and do activities such as walking, running, swimming, and cycling.

One must avoid overindulgence in alcohol, junk food, smoking, and addiction to drugs and medicines.

Avoid spending too much on modern gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, televisions, etc. Spend time on these gadgets for short intervals of time only.

Set a healthy sleeping routine for every day. Waking early in the morning and going to bed early at night should be a daily habit. Lead an active life.

Unhealthy Lifestyle

Bad food habits and an unhealthy lifestyle such as less or no physical activity may lead to several diseases like obesity, high blood pressure or hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and various heart diseases. An unhealthy lifestyle reduces productivity and creativity in a person. It also adversely affects moods and relationships. It leads to depression and anxiety in human beings.

It can be difficult to find the time to study, participate in sports and clubs, and still have time for my friends and family. However, I have learned that time management and prioritisation are important skills to have, and I am always working to improve in these areas.

Moving forward, I have many aspirations for my future. I hope to continue my education and obtain a degree in a field that I am passionate about. I also want to travel the world and experience different cultures, and to use my education and skills to make a positive impact on others.

The World Health Day, observed every April 7th, serves as a global reminder of the importance of health and well-being. This year’s theme, “My Health, My Right,” underscores the fundamental human right to access quality healthcare, education, and information.

Healthcare is not just a privilege; it is a basic human right. Every individual deserves access to quality healthcare services without discrimination or barriers. Whether it’s preventive care, treatment for illnesses, or support for mental health, everyone should have the right to seek and receive the care they need to live a fulfilling life.

Education and information play crucial roles in promoting good health practices and preventing diseases. People need access to accurate and reliable health information to make informed decisions about their well-being. By empowering individuals with knowledge about healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and treatment options, we can enable them to take control of their health and lead healthier lives.

Unfortunately, many individuals around the world still face barriers to accessing healthcare services and information. Factors such as poverty, inequality, geographic location, and social stigma can hinder people from receiving the care they need. It is essential to address these disparities and work towards achieving universal health coverage, where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, can access essential health services without financial hardship.

As we commemorate World Health Day and reflect on the theme “My Health, My Right,” let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting health equity and ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health. By advocating for the right to health for all, we can build healthier, more resilient communities and contribute to a brighter, more equitable future for generations to come.

The World Health Day, celebrated annually on April 7, is a global initiative to raise awareness towards the importance of health and wellbeing. This year’s theme, “My Health, My Right,” highlights a fundamental human right to access quality health care, education, and information. This essay will explore the significance of this theme and the importance of promoting health as a basic human right. The theme “My Health, My Right” emphasizes the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to quality health care, regardless of their social, economic, or geographic background.

Access to quality health care is not just a matter of individual well-being, but it is also a matter of social justice. When people have access to quality health care, they are better equipped to contribute to their communities and the economy. Therefore, promoting health as a human right is not just a moral imperative, but it is also a practical necessity.

Education and information play a vital role in promoting health as a human right. People need to be aware of their health rights and the available health care services to make informed decisions about their health. Education and information can also help to combat misinformation and myths about health, which can prevent people from seeking necessary medical care.

The theme “My Health, My Right” also highlights the importance of addressing the social determinants of health. These are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age, which can impact their health outcomes. Factors such as poverty, education, housing, and employment can all affect a person’s health, and addressing these social determinants is essential for promoting health as a human right.

Essay on My Life My Health 500 words

INTRODUCTION

A healthy lifestyle keeps you fit, gives you more energy , and lowers your chance of developing the disease. To be able to appreciate the significance of living a healthy life, it is vital.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES

One of life’s greatest luxuries is being in good health . We tend to forget how fortunate we are to be able to maintain a generally healthy lifestyle. It’s out of reach for some folks . We are free to pursue our interests without having to interrupt our day to go to the clinic.

When someone’s health is bad, it affects them emotionally as well as physically . Constantly worrying about your health may be mentally exhausting. You’ll have more drive and determination to succeed when your body and mind are both in good shape. Now is the time to savor every moment of your existence.

WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR LIVING A HEALTHY LIFE?

For optimal health, nothing replaces the need of eating regularly and preparing meals from a variety of food groups. It is crucial to our metabolism as a whole . You need to up your intake of green veggies and fresh fruit. Additionally, you should complement your diet with high-quality sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Diseases are harder to overcome when you fuel your body with nutritious foods.

Not eating when you’re hungry is not a healthy habit . Do not go on a diet that is too restrictive. Nowadays, people push themselves to the limit with restrictive diets. Extreme weight loss and disorders like anorexia may result from this.

Also, the practices of yoga and meditation have been shown to have miraculous effects. They are good for your health and give you a sense of calm. Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce anxiety. Persons struggling with emotional issues like sadness and anxiety benefit greatly from them. It’s crucial to drink enough water every day . Seven or eight 8-ounce glasses of water spread out across the day is recommended. Our skin and internal organs will both benefit from this.

VALUE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS

All the key components necessary for the body to operate properly are present in a healthy body. The physical condition is the most important factor . Being physically well can add years to your life expectancy. In addition to preventing chronic disease, disability, and early death, a healthy lifestyle may help you feel better about yourself and improve your quality of life.

INNOCUOUS DEVELOPMENTS FOR KIDS

Children’s emotional and physical well-being is equally important . Children are losing the most valuable thing due to the increased stress of school and the overuse of technological devices. They hardly use the playgrounds nowadays, prefer junk food, and spend an inordinate amount of time in front of electronic devices. Their health is steadily being destroyed by their poor choices . From an early age, parents should encourage their children to take care of their bodies and minds by teaching them healthful routines.

Keeping things clean also plays an important part in staying healthy. Practicing excellent hygiene—such as showering daily, cleaning hands before meals, brushing twice daily , and changing clothing frequently—can help you live a long, healthy life.

A growing number of unhappy people are being seen in public as a result of children and their parents’ overuse of electronic media. They use these electronic goods daily , despite mounting evidence that they may have negative effects on health. Accidents sometimes occur when teenagers are found engaged in their phones or other electronic gadgets.

Anxiety and aggression are common side effects of electronic device usage. Use of these products in excess has been associated with increased risks of cancer, loss of eyesight, obesity, and sleeplessness. Similarly important is a person’s emotional development, which ultimately defines their state of health. A person with good mental health will be able to think rationally and realistically .

Because if we don’t have good health, all of our money, fame, and power won’t be able to provide us with any satisfaction, health is more important than wealth . Maintaining one’s physical fitness and state of health is not an alternative but rather an absolute requirement.

For Years, I Thought My Gut Issues Were From Dairy—Then I Got a Surprising Diagnosis

' src=

There’s an ongoing joke among my close friends and family, and it’s that, well, I’m gassy.

For most of my adult life, I've experienced gas, bloating, and overall stomach discomfort after eating. At home, my father would tease me that I took after his side of the family when I would stink up the living room. After a dinner out with my close girlfriends while living in New York City in my 20s, I passed gas on the subway, and they all hurried away from me, plugging their noses. Years later, my loving husband stowed Febreze spray in the drawer of his nightstand for when my tummy was upset.

  • Abigail Hueber, RD, LDN , integrative functional dietitian
  • Andrew Boxer, MD , board-certified gastroenterologist and internal medicine physician with Gastroenterology Associates of New Jersey
  • Mariana Dineen, RD

For years, I wondered why I was the stinky one in my circle.  After doing Whole30 (a monthlong elimination diet) at the age of 25, I self-diagnosed myself with dairy sensitivity . I cut out cow’s milk, but I didn’t give up my love of cheese plates full of olives and crackers or hearty pasta dishes with extra mozzarella or Parmesan on top. I told myself I’d have to suffer the consequences, but hey, it was worth it.

Still, I never thought to seek out a real diagnosis. Looking back, perhaps that was a byproduct of being a woman and trying to navigate a biased health care system . Or maybe it was because my gastrointestinal symptoms seemed more like a source of humor and embarrassment than an actual medical issue. But things changed when I became a mother.

Getting serious about my gut health

When my daughter entered day care at 12 months old, our household was hit with one sickness after another—from hand, foot and mouth disease to stomach bugs and every cough and cold in between. It felt like as soon as we recovered from one sickness, another immediately took us out. And while everyone suffered, when it came to stomach viruses, I seemed to be hit the hardest, and my symptoms lasted the longest. (So much so that I had to sell my ticket to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour because I couldn’t get off the toilet. I’m still nursing that wound.)

After a few months of this, I made an appointment with my primary care physician. I was concerned because I'd noticed an increase in bloating and gassiness, even when I didn’t eat dairy. I'd also had a few bouts of diarrhea lasting longer than I would have liked, and with rising rates of colon cancer among young adults , I wanted to be extra safe. My doctor referred me to a gastroenterologist, and after a three-month wait, I finally went in for my appointment.

Following a long intake process that included answering some relatively embarrassing questions about my bowel habits, my gastroenterologist did bloodwork, an ultrasound, and a breath test, and finally concluded that I had small intestinal bacterial overgrowth , or SIBO.

Turns out, the gassiness I'd become known for was the key to unlocking what was really going on in my gut.

What the heck is SIBO?

As the name suggests, SIBO happens when there's an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. Trillions of bacteria and other microbes naturally hang out in our digestive tracts (aka, the gut microbiome ), says Andrew Boxer, MD , a board-certified gastroenterologist with Gastroenterology Associates of New Jersey, and these tiny bugs help us digest the food we eat, among other things. But too much bacteria in the small intestine (and more specifically, bacteria that has no business posting up there) can trigger symptoms like bloating, indigestion, diarrhea, and abdominal pain (hello, it me).

"The most common symptom of SIBO is bloating, especially bloating that gets progressively worse throughout the day, leaving someone feeling distended and uncomfortable at the end of the day,” says Abigail Hueber, RD, LDN , functional dietitian and founder of Above Health Nutrition.

It doesn't look the same for everyone, though, Hueber notes. "SIBO can present as either diarrhea or constipation or even have someone oscillating between both," she says.

Because these symptoms aren’t super specific and often can be confused with other conditions (like irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS) or even food intolerances (yep, including a dairy intolerance), Dr. Boxer says people typically suffer for years and see multiple doctors before a diagnosis is ever made.

It was confusing to learn I had a condition I had never heard of before, but apparently that’s par for the course with SIBO. Dr. Boxer says SIBO is more common than we've realized in the past. “Traditionally, we thought that only patients with mixed connective tissue disorders such as scleroderma get this disorder,” he says. “The more we learn, the more we see that there are many reasons to have it.”

Indeed, SIBO often occurs when something—like surgery, illness, or even a chronic condition like diabetes—causes food and waste products to move more slowly through the digestive tract, which in turn creates a breeding ground for bacteria, per the Mayo Clinic . It can also come about from long-term use or overuse of meds like antacids, proton pump inhibitors, antibiotics, or narcotics, per the Cleveland Clinic . And that's not an exhaustive list by any means.

The SIBO-gas connection

From our first conversation, my gastroenterologist was fairly certain I had SIBO. However, he wanted to be extra cautious, so he recommended I do bloodwork and an abdominal ultrasound to check for any suspicious or problematic growths or abnormalities. Luckily, everything came back clean and normal, so we moved on to a breath test.

Breath testing is a non-invasive process that involves measuring the concentration of gasses—hydrogen, methane, and more recently, hydrogen sulfide—in the breath after consuming a specific amount of a carbohydrate, such as glucose or lactulose, says Mariana Dineen, RD, LDN , dietitian and founder of Elemento Health . “This method indirectly suggests the presence of an excessive bacterial population in the small intestine by detecting gas produced from the fermentation of the ingested carbohydrate by gut bacteria,” she explains. “This gas is then exhaled through the lungs.”

It wasn’t dairy causing my bloating and gas—it was garlic and bananas, two foods I had eaten on a near-daily basis for the majority of my life.

Discovering my SIBO triggers

As with most medical conditions, there’s no shortage of information on the internet about how to treat SIBO symptoms. There are massive Facebook groups with 50K+ members where people share everything they’ve tried to manage their stomach upset and prevent flare-ups. After reading through so many of these, I felt surprisingly grateful: I had a relatively mild case of SIBO. My everyday life wasn't interrupted; I could function, work, parent, and exercise, and my flare-ups, while uncomfortable, were mostly tolerable.

There are so many ways to treat SIBO—from cutting out entire food groups to using herbal remedies—but I followed the treatment plan recommended by my gastroenterologist, which started with taking an intense course of antibiotics to essentially "clean out" my gut. My bloating and diarrhea subsided after my two-week course of Xifaxan, and I didn’t experience any side effects.

Afterward, though, the most challenging part of navigating my SIBO diagnosis began: figuring out which foods were responsible for my symptoms. Though I was sure dairy was to blame, this turned out not to be the case.

Hueber says SIBO symptoms can flare when specific foods "feed" the overgrown bacteria in the GI system. What makes SIBO difficult to figure out is that seemingly ordinary foods that are considered healthy can be the culprit. For most people, these are high-FODMAP foods , Hueber says—that is, foods high in certain fermentable carbs or sugars, such as apples, mangoes, pears, garlic, onions, cauliflower, and kidney beans.

To determine my triggers, I followed a low-FODMAP diet , where I avoided all high-FODMAP foods for a month and then gradually added them back in, one at a time, while keeping tabs on my symptoms. “You can identify which foods are causing your flare-up of symptoms by keeping a detailed food diary, including any symptoms you experience, to pinpoint specific foods and identify patterns over time,” explains Crystal Ayoob, MHA, RDN, a registered dietitian and dietetic lead at Heali .

(It's important to note that a low-FODMAP diet isn't right for everyone , and it's best to work with a doctor or dietitian when trying it to avoid nutritional deficiencies or even worsened GI issues.)

This is how I discovered it wasn’t dairy causing my bloating and gas—it was garlic and bananas, two foods I had eaten on a near-daily basis for the majority of my life. Often, I would add garlic to my morning eggs and then have bananas and almond butter after my run. It never occurred to me these healthy foods could be the reason behind my discomfort.

Embracing life with less gas

For almost a year now, I’ve cut garlic and bananas from my diet, and I don’t have any of the old gassy symptoms I used to have (buh bye, bedside Febreze spray). At the recommendation of my gastroenterologist, I've also eliminated probiotics and kombucha-style beverages. As he explained to me, if you have SIBO, you already have more bacteria than you need, so adding more through supplements or drinks could make symptoms worse.

The downfall, of course, is not being able to eat some of the foods I love. While some people with SIBO can add trigger foods back into their diet over time, I notice extreme bloating when I eat even a tiny bit of garlic (which is in so many delicious dishes!), so for now, I’m avoiding it. I do take comfort in knowing that many people with SIBO experience these garlic-derived symptoms, since it’s a common culprit. As for bananas? Ayoob says I may be able to enjoy overripe bananas (when they have brown spots on their peel), because the fruit's carbohydrate content decreases over time. I’m not brave enough to try it, but I’ll report back if I do.

For now, I’m savoring having a relatively normal digestive system for the first time in my adult life. And maybe, eventually, I won’t be considered the smelly friend anymore.

World Health Day 2024: My health, my right

Celebrating world health day: my health, my right.

Around the world, the right to health of millions is increasingly coming under threat.

Diseases and disasters loom large as causes of death and disability.

Conflicts are devastating lives, causing death, pain, hunger and psychological distress.

The burning of fossil fuels is simultaneously driving the climate crisis and taking away our right to breathe clean air, with indoor and outdoor air pollution claiming a life every 5 seconds.

The WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All has found that at least 140 countries recognize health as a human right in their constitution. Yet countries are not passing and putting into practice laws to ensure their populations are entitled to access health services. This underpins the fact that at least 4.5 billion people — more than half of the world’s population — were not fully covered by essential health services in 2021.

To address these types of challenges, the theme for World Health Day 2024 is  'My health, my right’.

This year’s theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.

Message of the Regional Director, Dr Matshidiso Moeti

my health my life short essay

On World Health Day, 7 April 2023, we began a year-long commemoration of WHO’s 75th Anniversary. I thank our Member States, partners, and stakeholders for their enthusiasm and support. It has been a season rich in festivities and reflections.

We’ve looked back on public health successes that have improved the quality of life of populations during the last seven decades and summoned the energy to tackle the health challenges of the next 75 years.

As we close the celebrations today, the theme for World Health Day 2024, “My Health, My Right” is appropriate to recall how we increased the rights of our region’s people through health.

With our Member States, we have made significant progress in ensuring better health outcomes for our people over the past decade. More mothers and children are surviving today than before. From 2000 to 2020, the life expectancy of African women increased from 54 to 67 years; the maternal mortality ratio decreased by 33% (from 788 to 531 maternal deaths per 100 000 lives), and the number of children dying before the age of 5 was reduced by 50% from 2000 to 2017.

Between 2011 and 2021, the number of new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths decreased by 44% and 55%, respectively, across Africa, and the number of TB deaths decreased by 26%. In addition, several diseases are on the verge of eradication and elimination, including polio, guinea worm disease, as well as maternal and neonatal tetanus.

The physical sensations of watching a total solar eclipse

Science writer David Baron witnesses his first total solar eclipse in Aruba, 1998. He says seeing one is "like you've left the solar system and are looking back from some other world."

David Baron can pinpoint the first time he got addicted to chasing total solar eclipses, when the moon completely covers up the sun. It was 1998 and he was on the Caribbean island of Aruba. "It changed my life. It was the most spectacular thing I'd ever seen," he says.

Baron, author of the 2017 book American Eclipse: A Nation's Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World , wants others to witness its majesty too. On April 8, millions of people across North America will get that chance — a total solar eclipse will appear in the sky. Baron promises it will be a surreal, otherworldly experience. "It's like you've left the solar system and are looking back from some other world."

Baron, who is a former NPR science reporter, talks to Life Kit about what to expect when viewing a total solar eclipse, including the sensations you may feel and the strange lighting effects in the sky. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Baron views the beginning of a solar eclipse with friends in Western Australia in 2023. Baron says getting to see the solar corona during a total eclipse is "the most dazzling sight in the heavens."

What does it feel like to experience a total solar eclipse — those few precious minutes when the moon completely covers up the sun?

It is beautiful and absolutely magnificent. It comes on all of a sudden. As soon as the moon blocks the last rays of the sun, you're plunged into this weird twilight in the middle of the day. You look up and the blue sky has been torn away. On any given day, the blue sky overhead acts as a screen that keeps us from seeing what's in space. And suddenly that's gone. So you can look into the middle of the solar system and see the sun and the planets together.

Can you tell me about the sounds and the emotions you're feeling?

A total solar eclipse is so much more than something you just see with your eyes. It's something you experience with your whole body. [With the drop in sunlight], birds will be going crazy. Crickets may be chirping. If you're around other people, they're going to be screaming and crying [with all their emotions from seeing the eclipse]. The air temperature drops because the sunlight suddenly turns off. And you're immersed in the moon's shadow. It doesn't feel real.

Everything you need to know about solar eclipse glasses before April 8

Everything you need to know about solar eclipse glasses before April 8

In your 2017 Ted Talk , you said you felt like your eyesight was failing in the moments before totality. Can you go into that a little more?

The lighting effects are very weird. Before you get to the total eclipse, you have a progressive partial eclipse as the moon slowly covers the sun. So over the course of an hour [or so], the sunlight will be very slowly dimming. It's as if you're in a room in a house and someone is very slowly turning down the dimmer switch. For most of that time your eyes are adjusting and you don't notice it. But then there's a point at which the light's getting so dim that your eyes can't adjust, and weird things happen. Your eyes are less able to see color. It's as if the landscape is losing its color. Also there's an effect where the shadows get very strange.

my health my life short essay

Crescent-shaped shadows cast by the solar eclipse before it reaches totality appear on a board at an eclipse-viewing event in Antelope, Ore., 2017. Kara Frame and CJ Riculan/NPR hide caption

You see these crescents on the ground.

There are two things that happen. One is if you look under a tree, the spaces between leaves or branches will act as pinhole projectors. So you'll see tiny little crescents everywhere. But there's another effect. As the sun goes from this big orb in the sky to something much smaller, shadows grow sharper. As you're nearing the total eclipse, if you have the sun behind you and you look at your shadow on the ground, you might see individual hairs on your head. It's just very odd.

Some people might say that seeing the partial eclipse is just as good. They don't need to go to the path of totality.

A partial solar eclipse is a very interesting experience. If you're in an area where you see a deep partial eclipse, the sun will become a crescent like the moon. You can only look at it with eye protection. Don't look at it with the naked eye . The light can get eerie. It's fun, but it is not a thousandth as good as a total eclipse.

A total eclipse is a fundamentally different experience, because it's only when the moon completely blocks the sun that you can actually take off the eclipse glasses and look with the naked eye at the sun.

And you will see a sun you've never seen before. That bright surface is gone. What you're actually looking at is the sun's outer atmosphere, the solar corona. It's the most dazzling sight in the heavens. It's this beautiful textured thing. It looks sort of like a wreath or a crown made out of tinsel or strands of silk. It shimmers in space. The shape is constantly changing. And you will only see that if you're in the path of the total eclipse.

Watching a solar eclipse without the right filters can cause eye damage. Here's why

Shots - Health News

Watching a solar eclipse without the right filters can cause eye damage. here's why.

So looking at a partial eclipse is not the same?

It is not at all the same. Drive those few miles. Get into the path of totality.

This is really your chance to see a total eclipse. The next one isn't happening across the U.S. for another 20 years.

The next significant total solar eclipse in the United States won't be until 2045. That one will go from California to Florida and will cross my home state of Colorado. I've got it on my calendar.
