Essay on Incredible India

‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ - the most famous saying means guests are like God and it is the spirit of the Indian tradition and culture when they welcome their guests. It truly reflects the rich and cultural heritage and warm hospitality of the people of India. With a civilization of more than five thousand years old, India is a country with an amazing wealth of diversity. India stretches from the eternal snows of the Himalayas in the north to the peninsulas of the south from the arid desert of the west to the humid deltas of the east from the dry heat and cold of the central plateau to the cool forest foothills and the golden beaches. Thus, it offers an incredible choice of destinations for a visiting tourist to relish and enjoy.

India’s civilization is more than five thousand years old. India is the largest constitution and the biggest democracy in the world. India is a country that takes pride in having diverse religions, languages, races, cultures, flora and fauna, etc. The second most populated country in the world after China has twenty-nine states, twenty-two languages, many religions and a number of rivers flowing through it like the famous Ganges, the Indus, the Brahmaputra, etc. Its diversity is the essence of the country.

Lotus flower is the National flower of India. Tiger is the National Animal and the elegantly beautiful Peacock is the National Bird. India has given birth to religions such as Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism. One can find many multiple foreign religions that are flourishing in the country like Islam, Christianity and Zoroastrianism. Each religion has an influence in shaping the culture and architecture of the country, for example, Goa has a Portuguese culture with churches all across the city. Similarly, there are many towns in the state of Uttar Pradesh that boast of an Islamic influence.

The Sun temple, the Khajuraho temples and many more are all the ancient Hinduism imprints of the country. With this large diversity in religion, India celebrates numerous festivals each year like Holi, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Guru Nanak Birthday, etc. Each festival celebrated by different religions paints the entire country in its bright shades of colours. India’s constitution recognizes twenty-two languages. These languages further have sub-languages. The state recognizes Hindi as the official language of the country to bind the prolific linguistic diversity into one.

India is also proud of its geographical diversity. Where a northern state like Jammu and Kashmir is all Himalayan mountainous regions, the state of Rajasthan is all desert regions. The states of Kerala and Goa are coastal areas and Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and many other states are all plains.

Racial diversity is another feather in India’s cap. We all know about the Indo-Aryan race migration but besides that, we have the Mongoloid race in the Northeast, the Dravidian race in the South and a fraction of Iranian race too as India is home to a considerable population of Zoroastrians.

India is also a land of diverse climatic conditions. The four seasons of summer, autumn, winter, and spring prevail throughout the year in most parts of the country. Places like Cherrapunji and Mawsynram receive maximum rainfall throughout the year. Then we have the Himalayan region in the north of the country, which serves as a border as well as a natural barrier to the bitterly cold Siberian winds. The coastal areas like Mumbai, Daman and Diu and Kolkata have tropical warm climates throughout.

The Indian Ocean on the South, the Arabian Sea on the west, and the Bay of Bengal on the Eastbound mainland of India. The country is bordered by Pakistan to the west, Bhutan, the People’s Republic of China and Nepal to the North, and Bangladesh and Burma to the East.

Diversity can also be observed in food habits and clothing. We have many cuisines like North Indian cuisine, Mughlai cuisine, South Indian cuisine, etc. Gujarati food is vegetarian whereas Bengali food mainly comprises of fish curries. People hailing from North India eat mainly wheat and those in the South are rice-consuming people.

Besides all this variation, all Indians sing the same National Anthem, rejoicing together when the country wins a cricket match. Even the history of Independence has proved that people of all different cultures and religions participated in the country’s freedom struggle.

This unity in diversity is the hallmark of India’s uniqueness. The very fact that India absorbs all this variation into itself is very mesmerizing.

FAQs on Incredible India Essay

1. Why is India known as the land of unity of diversity?

National integration alone, especially in these days of extremism and terrorism, may be the cornerstone of a strong, united, and successful India in India. Mahatma Gandhi sacrificed his life for the sake of communal peace. In our country, however, there are Bengalis, Gujaratis, Punjabis, Maharashtrians, Tamilians, and others. The reality is that humans have coexisted for thousands of years, regardless of divisions and distinctions, caste or creed.

In terms of customs, theology, and rituals, there are distinctions between the Hindu and Muslim groups. However, they have been born and raised in the same motherland for millennia. They share a home and have a great deal of respect for one another. On Muslim celebrations such as Eid, Muharram, and others, Hindus extend greetings to their Muslim friends. On the occasion of Hindu festivals such as Diwali, Durga Puja, and others, Muslims likewise pray for good luck.

This helps to explain India's growing solidarity between Hindus and Muslims. They affect one another on numerous issues and are influenced by oriental civilization's ideals. India is a massive nation. Climate changes occur in different parts of the world. One state's spoken language differs significantly from that of another. They dress in a variety of outfits. They participate in a variety of religious rites and celebrations. Different religious traditions are practiced by people from various cultures. Despite their differences, Indians have a sense of belonging and solidarity. As a result, we might conclude that India is a land of diversity and unity.

2. How is the slogan, “Atithi Devo Bhava”  used with regard to tourism in India?

The concept of Atithi Devo Bhava - Guest is God dates back to ancient times when guests or visitors would pay unannounced visits to their friends, family, or neighbors.

As there were no technologically quick means of communication available at the time, the visits were unannounced. As a result, the philosophy of 'Atithi Devo Bhava,' or 'Guest is God,' has been welcomed by the unplanned appearance of guests.

'The Guest is God,' says the expression Atithi Devo Bhava. This word and its meaning have been a part of Indian culture since ancient times, and it continues to serve as the country's motto for promoting tourism today.

Atithi Devo Bhava is an Indian term derived from Sanskrit literature. In Indian culture and Buddhism, this phrase has a very superior home. 'Atithi' literally means "without a calendar," "Devo" means "God," and "Bhava" literally means "to be or to be."

The persistent focus on this theme in many religious allusions has elevated the concept of 'Guest is God' well beyond tourism. India's inhabitants go to great lengths to strengthen and blossom the host-guest relationship.

They attempt to treat their visitors with the utmost significance, respect, and care by providing them with a variety of resources that they can afford, regardless of their financial situation. The world witnesses a lot of examples of 'Atithi Satkar,' which means to welcome the guest with the utmost respect and importance.

3. Explain the geographical diversity of India

India is a big country with a significant diversity of physical features such as dry deserts, evergreen forests, high Himalayas, a lengthy coast, and fertile plains, spanning an area of 3,287,263 square kilometers. Certain portions of India are so fertile that they are considered among the world's most fertile regions, while others are so barren and unproductive that little can be cultivated there.

The Indo-Gangetic valley region falls into the first group, while some parts of Rajasthan fall into the second. There is a stark contrast in climate; India has a wide range of climates, ranging from the scorching heat of the plains, which may be as hot as the hottest parts of Africa, to the frigid temperatures of the Himalayas, which can be as cold as the Arctic.

The Himalayan hills, which are permanently covered in snow, are extremely cold, whereas Rajasthan's deserts are noted for their heat. As India is reliant on the monsoons, rainfall varies across the country. While regions like Mawsynram and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, which are regarded to have the highest quantity of rainfall in the world, receive rainfall virtually all year, places like Sindh and Rajasthan receive very little rainfall.

This climatic variance has also contributed to India's diverse flora and wildlife. In reality, India has the world's most diverse collection of flora and animals. The unusual demographics also support a unique ecosystem rich in greenery, fauna, rare herbs, and a diverse range of birds.

4. Explain the cultural diversity of India

Indian culture is one of the world's oldest and most distinctive. In India, there is incredible cultural diversity all around the country. The South, the North, and the Northeast all boast of different cultures, and practically every state has carved out a cultural niche for itself. There is no other culture on the planet that is as diverse and unique as India's.

With its ancient and diverse culture, stunning contrasts, and breathtaking natural beauty, India, a land of endless variation, is fascinating. India is the best site on the planet to witness a variety of cultures, from current to ancient, and to uncover commonalities among them.

5. Explain the linguistic diversity of India

There is a lot of linguistic diversity in India. There were 1652 languages and dialects listed in the 1961 census. In India, there are 58 different languages taught in schools. The number of languages is substantially higher, with 122 languages belonging to five families: Indo-European, Dravidian, Austro-Asiatic, Tibeto-Burmese, and Semito-Hamitic, according to the 2001 Census. Newspapers are published in 87 languages, radio programs are broadcast in 71 languages, and films are produced in 15 languages. The situation was complicated in terms of the number of languages spoken in the country, but there was a consistent pattern in terms of the hierarchy of languages among different communities that prevented India from becoming a "virtual Tower of Babel."  Visit the Vedantu app and website for more information.

My India My Pride Poem:

India, the land of diversity and culture,

Where every language sings its own signature.

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari,

We cherish her beauty with pride so merry.

Her mountains high, her valleys deep,

Her rivers flowing, their stories to keep.

The lush green fields and golden sand dunes,

All add up to her unique hues.

Amidst all the diversity, she stands tall,

A nation united, together we call.

The colours of festivals and religions galore,

All live in harmony like never before.

India, oh India my heart fills with glee,

When I think of you, your love sets me free.

With rich heritage and history so vast,

My soul yearns for you until my last breath.

From the ancient Indus to the Mughal era,

From the British rule to independence, we’ve come far.

With each passing day, we continue to rise,

Our nation’s spirit never ceases to surprise.

The warmth of her people and their welcoming nature,

Makes every visitor feel right at home for sure.

Oh India, my pride, my love for you grows more,

With each passing day, I adore you even more.

From the food to the music, from the dance to art,

Every form of expression touches my heart.

With diverse cultures and traditions to behold,

India continues to amaze with stories untold.

May we continue to shine bright as a nation,

United in diversity, bound by love and compassion.

10-line essay on the national flag of india, a paragraph on the national flag for kids, short essay on the indian national flag for children, long essay on the national flag, what will your child learn from this essay.

Early childhood learning involves using words, language, and speech that can help them communicate. However, in this present day of smartphones and laptops, children need to understand the importance of writing a good essay from an early stage to enjoy reading and develop critical thinking through creativity and imagination. India’s National Flag is not just a symbol of national pride but represents the hopes and aspirations of all Indians. Whether kids are preparing for school exams or competitions, a national flag essay must demonstrate their views on the given topic and English language skills. An essay on National Flag for classes 1, 2 and 3 must highlight the design, colour, and usage and its importance as a symbol of honour, patriotism, and freedom for the country.

Every country has its National Flag, a mark of identity, pride, and integrity for its citizens. Writing an essay is an important skill for your child’s education. Here are some key points to remember :

  • Read and do extensive research on the topic.
  • Your essay must contain an introductory, body, and concluding paragraph.
  • Ponder upon a logical and thought-provoking ending.

Nobody expects an essay for classes 1 & 2 to be perfect, and it should contain short sentences that carry one idea at a time. Here is a short essay on the National Flag of India for kids.

  • The National Flag of India upholds its people’s honour and independence from British rule.
  • The National Flag of India is in the shape of a rectangular flap.
  • It is referred to as the ‘Tiranga’ or tricolour parallel bands- saffron, white and green.
  • These colours represent India’s freedom’s unity, strength, and symbol.
  • The blue-coloured Chakra at the Flag’s centre has 24 spiked wheels and symbolises ‘dharma’ resembling Mahatma Gandhi’s spinning wheel.
  • Pingali Venkayya made the final design of the National Flag as the “Swaraj Flag”.
  • The Flag is made up of Khadi cotton or Khadi silk.
  • Every citizen must respect the National Flag.
  • Any insult to the National Flag is a punishable offence.
  • On 22nd July 1947, the Constituent Assembly adopted it in its current state.

Every country has its national flag, and sometimes it represents a nation. If your child has to write a paragraph on our National Flag, here is an essay to enlighten them in many ways:

The Indian National flag is also known as “Tiranga”. Pingali Venkayya proposed the final design of our National Flag. The horizontally placed tri-colour of this flag is saffron, white and green. The saffron denotes the sacrifices of the leaders and revolutionaries of India’s freedom struggle. The white portion means the peace and harmony prevalent among India’s religious and ethnic groups. The green colour represents the soil and vegetation of our country and how they sustain its people. The Ashoka wheel is navy blue at the centre of the white stripe. We must always respect our National Flag.

Children should read a short essay on the Indian National Flag from an early age. Moreover, an article about the Indian Flag can make children curious about the Flag’s history and the nation. Here is a short essay on Indian National Flag for children:

The Indian National flag as we see it today was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 22 July 1947, a month before India’s Independence Day on 15 August 1947. After India became independent from Great Britain, the Indian Flag was adopted. Since then, the ‘Tricolor’ showcases the democratic and republic status of the country. Pingali Venkayya designed the Indian National Flag as the ‘Swaraj Flag.’ The colours on the Flag are saffron on the top, white in the middle, and green on the bottom. The navy blue-coloured Ashoka chakra is in the centre of the white-coloured band. The Ashok Chakra represents ‘dharma’ as it resembles the spinning wheel of Gandhiji. Symbolising the country and its citizens, the National Flag is the pride of all Indian citizens.

An essay for class 3 is an exercise of the student’s creative imagination. Here is a long essay on the National Flag of India that can inspire them to cultivate more patriotic feelings for their motherland:

The significance of the National Flag is taught to kids in their school. The Indian Flag is the pride of our country and describes the nation. Considered one of the most attractive flags globally, with vibrant colours and symbols, this ‘Tiranga’ has a deep significance to the country and its people. The National Flag is hoisted on important historical places and government buildings at national festivals yearly. The national anthem is sung, and our leaders offer a formal salute during the flag hoisting ceremony.

The Indian National flag was adopted by the Constitutional Assembly on 22 July 1947, and it has three colours describing our nation’s renunciation and rich tradition. It is rectangular and contains three horizontal bands of colours of equal length and breadth. There are three different colours on the Flag that stand for peace, purity, and power. Earlier, private citizens’ usage of the Indian Flag was prohibited, except on Republic Day and Independence Day.

The Flag has saffron on the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom. The saffron colour shows the soldiers’ courage and spirit of sacrifice in the struggle for independence. The white colour represents purity, truth, and honesty. On the other hand, the green shows the nation’s rich agricultural heritage, and white symbolises the path of peace and truth. There is an Ashok Chakra in the white strip known as dharma chakra, taken from the Lion Pillar or Ashoka Stambh in Sarnath. It symbolises justice, peace, and spirituality. There are 24 spokes in the wheel, representing the 24 hours a day. The measurement ratio of the National Flag is 3:2, and it uses Khadi material.

The National Flag should be respected and honoured under all circumstances as it signifies the status of India as an independent republic and democratic country. When the Flag is hoisted or lowered, people should stand in an attention position. Usually, the salutation is given by the uniform-clad armed forces after the National Flag is hoisted.

The late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru once called the Indian National Flag” a flag of freedom for ourselves and a symbol of freedom to all the people.” Thus, it helps develop a patriotic feeling and a sense of respect for the nation. It is hosted every year on Republic Day and Independence Day. The National Flag is a symbol of our glory that teaches us to live in peace and love while taking pride in the nation’s history.

Meaning & History Of India’s National Flag

In 1931, Venkayya first designed the National Flag for the Indian National Congress. It had a yarn spinning wheel in the middle with white, green, and red as their colours. Later, the Ashoka Chakra replaced the spinning wheel and the red colour with saffron. Pingali Venkayya made the final design of the Flag. On 22 July 1947, the Flag came into being in its present form at the meeting of the Constitutional Assembly.

The National Flag, known as Tiranga, means “three colours” or “tricoloured”. Its colours represent distinct values of the country like faith, chivalry, truth, sacrifice, and courage.

Display Of The Indian National Flag

When the National Flag is raised, the saffron colour band must be on the top of the Flag, or the emblem can be placed either above the National Flag or on its right. All other flags will be set to the left of the National Flag when hung in a row. Generally, the National Flag is visible flying over notable government buildings. However, it’s taken down at sunset. On occasions of national mourning, the National Flag flies at half-mast.

Importance Of The National Flag

The vibrant colours of the National Flag represent our country’s sovereignty and integrity, which are to be respected.

An essay on National Flag teaches kids about the remarkable sacrifices made by several freedom fighters and armed forces to keep the tricolour flying in full glory.

The Indian National flag as we see it today was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 22 July 1947.

My India Essay

India is a popular country. It is a democracy and the country with the second highest population in the world.

Location Of India

India is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a part of Asia, the seventh continent. As the seventh-largest nation in the world and is well-known among people of different countries. It extends approximately 3,287,263 square kilometres. Out of this region, forests cover 712,249 sq. km. Gandhinagar also holds the distinction of being Asia's greenest city.

The Indian subcontinent and its neighbouring countries, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, share various physical characteristics. India's topography divides the country into six distinct natural areas.

The Northern Mountains

Northern plain

The Great Indian Desert

The Southern Plateau

Coastline Plains

Islands Regions

My favourite state in India is Rajasthan. Rajasthan has an illustrious past. It is renowned for its many valiant rulers and the art and architecture it produced. Because of its sandy route, this is where the nuclear test was conducted. Rajasthan offers a lot, including deserts, mountains, lakes, deep forests, beautiful oases, and temples. The name Rajasthan also describes to "Land of Sacrifice." In Rajasthan, you can visit Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, etc., to see the heritage items left behind by all the kings who once governed the region. The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur.

I live in India. Historically, India's reputation as a "Golden Bird" drew kings from other countries. We were introduced to other religions and cultures due to their arrival in India and subsequent dominance over us. Today, India houses people of different religions and cultures and we are part of this diverse and multicultural country. All of these religions have enriched our diversity by bringing with them various cultural and religious beliefs.

We were dominated by the British for a long time, and India attained independence in August 1947. Every year on August 15, we commemorate our independence.

Our crafts, music, and arts are all the best there are. This country has numerous well-known art forms, including Kathak dance in the north and Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali in the south. Similarly, two styles of music are famous here; one is called Karnataki music, and the other is called Hindustani music. It is amazing. Our literature, handloom, craft, etc., all have an unmatchable flavour.

The Indian national flag has three colours:-

Saffron, the primary and topmost colour in the flag, symbolises purity. White, the centre colour of the flag, represents peace and is the second colour. Green, which is the third and bottom-most colour on the flag, symbolises fertility. Blue Ashoka Chakra is painted on a white background. There are 24 evenly spaced spokes in the Ashoka Chakra. 29 states and seven union territories make up India.

India is rich in biodiversity. Our culture is what instils in us a genuine respect for both plants and animals. A large cultural group encourages the worship of a wide range of plants and animals, which aids in protecting them. This explains why India has the highest concentration of tigers. 54 animal sanctuaries and more than 100 national parks are found in India. Some creatures, including Bengal Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, and Lions, are found in India. Having such immense biodiversity is excellent.

Dosa is one of my favourite Indian dishes. I love eating dosa, and it is one of my favourite breakfast foods. Dosa is believed to have originated in the town of Udupi. Though it is traditional food in the south of India, Dosa is hugely popular in other parts of the country as well. The dosa is frequently referred to as the Indian continent's pancake. Dosa was initially thicker and softer in Tamil Nadu than it was in Karnataka. I enjoy preparing the fermented batter for Dosas with rice and black gramme as the key ingredients. I like to eat Dosa with chutney and sambar.

India is the most significant contemporary democracy in the world and is renowned for its rich culture and history. All areas of space, research, education, and technology development in my country are advancing swiftly. My country continued despite going through a lot of sacrifices to gain independence. India is getting ready to become a worldwide force and I am so proud of it. I wish all my fellow citizens prosperity and happiness.
