Course Overview

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been designed with the aim to develop an understanding of teaching-learning process at secondary and senior-secondary level among student teachers. It focuses on enabling student-teachers to reflect critically on perspectives of education and integrate holistically the theory and practices to facilitate active engagement of learners for knowledge creation.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES The B.Ed. programme focuses on: - developing an understanding of context of education in contemporary Indian Society, - appreciating the role of context and socio-political realities about learners in facilitating learning in inclusive settings, - creating sensitivity about language diversity in classroom and its role in teaching-learning process - developing an understanding of paradigm shift in conceptualizing disciplinary knowledge in school curriculum, - identifying, challenging and overcoming gender inequalities in school, classroom, curricula, textbook, social institutions, etc., - enabling student-teachers to acquire necessary competencies for organizing learning experiences, - developing competencies among student-teachers to select and use appropriate assessment strategies for facilitating learning, - engaging student-teachers with self, child, community and school to establish close connections between different curricular areas, - enabling student-teachers to integrate and apply ICT in facilitating teaching-learning process and in school management, - systematizing experiences and strengthening the professional competencies of student teachers, and - providing first-hand experience of all the school activities through engaging student-teachers as interns in secondary/senior secondary schools.

ADMISSION Admission shall be done on the basis of the score obtained in the entrance test conducted by IGNOU all over India. The candidate will be required to submit the filled-in application form with self-attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum-Admission Form. The original documents are to be submitted later for verification, after receiving offer letter for admission. ENTRANCE TEST The Entrance Test will be held on the date mentioned in the advertisement. Hall tickets will be uploaded on IGNOU website; www.ignou.ac.in for appearing in the Entrance Test. Mere allowing candidates to take Entrance Test would not amount to acceptance of their eligibility for admission to B.Ed. The final admission to the programme shall be subject to their rank in the merit list in the Entrance Test and production of proof of their eligibility at the time of last date of submission of application for admission to B.Ed. programme along with original certificates and programme fee.

The number of seats of each PSC is limited to 50 only. The university reserves the right to conduct the examination at different centers/change the examination centre of the candidates without assigning any reason thereof.

Programme Fee Rs. 55000/-

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Ed. programme are advised not to pay the fee along with the filled-in application form. They will get a separate communication about their admission and payment of fee. The programme fee should be paid only by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at the city where your Regional Centre is situated. Please write in capital letters your name and the programme to which admission is sought, i.e., B.Ed., on the back of the Demand Draft to ensure proper credit of your fee to the relevant account.

  INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEM The B.Ed. programme delivery system includes the multi-media approach, i.e., self-instructional print material, audio/video components, assignments, counselling sessions, individual and group activities and practical work in schools during internship, and workshops.

Counselling Sessions Generally the counselling sessions will be held at the Programme Study Centres (PSCs) during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and long holidays. Within the general schedule of the programme, the coordinators at the Programme Study Centres (PSCs) will decide on the conduct of these sessions. The Programme Study Centre coordinators will also provide the counselling schedule in advance during first-induction meeting. The counselling sessions will include clarifications required in the print material and audio/video programmes through active interaction with student-teachers. In general practice, 10% of total credit weightage duration is assigned to counseling sessions. For example, for a course of 4 credits worth, counselling sessions will be organized for 12 hours, i.e. 6 sessions of two hours each as per nature and demand of the course. Evaluation The system of evaluation, both for theory and practical work, is as follows: Theory: For theory courses, evaluation comprises three aspects: a) Self-evaluation exercises within each unit of study (non-credit). b) Continuous evaluation in the form of periodic compulsory tasks/ assignments. This carries a weightage of 30% for each course. One task/assignment in each theory course is compulsory. c) The term-end examination has a weightage of 70% of the total for each course. Term-end examinations will be held in June/December every year. As an illustration, for the candidates of academic year (January-2016), the first term-end examination will be held in December 2016 only for first year courses. The students will be permitted to appear in the term-end examination for the courses of 2nd year only in December 2017.

Practical: For Practical courses, evaluation comprises three aspects : 1. Continuous assessment of the activities at school during internship by mentors. 2. Assessment of portfolio and reflective journal of the student-teacher, which is being prepared during internship. 3. Assessment of Reports/Assignments related to EPC 4. Assessment of performance in workshops. 5. Assessment during internship by a teacher educator appointed by RC/SOE. SOE will develop essential assessment tools for assessing various activities during internship. Any learner will not be allowed to participate in both workshops i.e. Workshop I and II in the same year. IInd Year workshop will be allowed after a year of attending the first year workshop. The learner will have to obtain at least D grade in each course in both continuous and terminal evaluation separately. However, the overall average should be at least C grade for the successful completion of a course. If a learner has missed any term-end examination of a course for any reason, he/she may appear in the subsequent term-end examination. This facility will be available until a student secures the minimum pass grade, but only up to a period of five years from the date of registration. The letter grade system is used for grading continuous and terminal examination components. These letter grades are:

The rounding off decimal point in Grade card/Mark Sheet to the next mark in case decimal point is between 0.5 and 0.9 and no change in case it is between 0.1 to 0.4. The student will be declared successful if he/she scores at least C grade in theory courses and practical courses separately.

MONITORING SOE has devised a systematic monitoring mechanism. Various strategies for monitoring, such as regular periodic field visit by the faculty, collection of regular feedback from both the learners and study center coordinators, interaction with learners through ICT etc., periodic orientation of coordinators/ counsellors/ supervisors/ mentors, etc. and maintaining specified record by the PSCs as well as university will be the essential components of the mechanism. SOE faculty will be involved actively in all activities of monitoring.

Registration fee, Cancellation of Admission and Refund of Fee

A non-refundable Registration Fee shall be charged along with the programme fee of first semester/year at the time of admission.

If a student applies for cancellation of application/admission and refund of fee, the refund request will be considered as per the University policy as under:

Before confirmation of admission:  Full Programme fee paid shall be refunded.  

After confirmation of admission:

Within 15 days of confirmation of admission : Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.500/- .  

Within 16-90 days of confirmation of admission:   Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.1000/- .  

After 90 days of confirmation of admission:   No refund shall be allowed.

Course Overview

The PGDDE is an abbreviation of the Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education. It is a unique professional development programme designed and developed for the first time in the whole Commonwealth I 1987. Since then it has made significant contribution to development of human resources in the field of Open and Distance Education(ODE) in India and abroad. This programme was made available to students of 19 Commonwealth countries under the Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship Scheme.

The Programme is continuously updated (in 1996) and revised (in 2000) to maintain its international standard. The programme is also available to students in Africa through UNESCOIICBA collaboration, and to students of Sri Lanka through the Distance education Modernization Project(DEMP), Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.

The programme aims at

  • Promoting awareness about the concept and utility of open and distance education in India and other developing countries; and

Developing the much-needed human resources for the existing open universities and correspondence/distance education centres, and may more that may come up in the near future.

Target Group

Basically this programme has been designed for people like you, who have an interest in open and distance education(either by virtue of being an employee in the ODE system or willingness to work in the system). In-service teachers in Correspondence Course Institutes/ Distance Education Centres and Open Universities would highly benefit from the Programme.

Teleconferencing

Teleconferencing is a one-way video and two-way audio facility. Teleconferencing will be held every month. During teleconferencing session, you will get an opportunity to interact by phone in facility or fax with the resource persons/experts who participate in teleconferencing session and clear your doubts immediately.

The teleconferencing facility will be available at the Regional Centre and Selected Study Centres. The teleconferencing schedule will be sent to the Programme In-charge and Regional Director who would inform the students. Teleconferencing is done through Gyan Darshan Channel. Students must regularly attend these sessions. These will help them clarify doubts and interact with other learners all over the country.

Radio Counselling

Radio counselling will be held through FM and students can ask questions free of cost with phone in facilities right from their homes. A toll free telephone number 110012345 has been provided for this purpose.

The programme will also be telecast through DD Metro channel and schedule will be informed to students in advance.

Audio-video Programme

Audio and video programmes for each course have been prepared to support learning for the students. These Audio-video programmes in the form of cassettes are available at all Programme Study Centres. These Audio and video cassettes will be provided for viewing and listening. They can also hire the cassettes for viewing and listening.

Students will be required to complete seventy-five percent attendance in theory counselling to become eligible for appearing in Term-end Examination. Similarly, they will be required to complete ninety percent attendance in practical contact sessions to become eligible for appearing in practical examination.

Continuous Evaluation of Theory Component

Assignments

Assignment is a means of continuing assessment of theory and practical. Assignments will help you to recapitulate the theory and go back to the text again in case students are unable to answer a particular question. Thus assignments also help to reinforce learning in distance learning system of education. These assignments consist of a set of questions and activities that you will answer at your own place by referring your blocks. The assignments will cover all types of questions (long answer type, short answer type, objective type, multiple choice questions and case studies). The assignments will carry thirty percent weightage. Students will be required to obtain fifty percent marks as pass percentage in each assignment separately. Each assignment will carry 100 marks. In the final result assignments will carry thirty percent weightage.

Term-end Examination

As stated earlier, term-end examination is the major component of the evaluation system and if carries seventy percent weightage in the Final result. The University conducts term-end examination twice a year i.e., in June and December. They can take the examination only after completion of the course, failing which students can take the same in December or June of subsequent years years within the total span of the programme. In case any student fail to get a pass score in the Tern-end Examination, the person will be eligible to reappear at the next Term-end Examination for that course as and when if is held, within the total span of the Programme.

IGNOU BAG Course

IGNOU offers Bachelor of Arts courses with many specializations. The Bachelor of Arts (BAG) is proposed for admission every year twice on the calendar and Academic year cycle. The course covers the fundamentals of Economics, History, Sociology, English, Sanskrit, Education, Mathematics, and more. It is driven by the arts and humanities stream.

The 3-year bachelor’s degree program in Commerce has been designed to provide some skills, attitudes, and knowledge to learners so that they can comfortably meet the challenges of commerce,  and the business world. The bachelor’s degree program in Commerce has a complete fee of INR 17,600 . Individuals can apply to the BCom General program after passing 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.

IGNOU BBA Course

The Bachelor of Business Administration course offers in-depth learning about Business topics, management, marketing, etc. IGNOU BBA course takes 3 years to complete. The admission process will be done based on previous examination performance. The entrance exam is not conducted for admission however other eligibility criteria must be fulfilled.

IGNOU BSc Course

IGNOU is offering admission to Bachelor of Science or BSc courses for the academic session 2024. It offers three specializations including BSCG (Bachelor of Science General), BSCANH (Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Anthropology), and BSCBCH (Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Biochemistry). The duration of the course is 3 years for all specializations. The course is available in both the English and Hindi Medium. 

The fee for the Bachelor of Science program is INR 17,700. Applicants must have passed 10+2 in a science stream or an equivalent examination.

IGNOU BCA Course

Students learn about Computer applications, Software development, Programming languages etc.  IGNOU conducts admission for Bachelor of Computer application in January and July two sessions in every Year. 

  • The BCA course duration is 2 years minimum duration and the minimum is 6 years divided into Six semesters in English Medium only.
  • Students who have passed in 10th & 12th or its equivalent from any educational board can apply online for admission through the official portal of IGNOU.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age limit for admission to the IGNOU BCA course. The total fee of the course is Rs. 47,400 and can be paid Rs. 7,900 per semester .

Course Overview

The PGDDE is an abbreviation of the Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education. It is a unique professional development programme designed and developed for the first time in the whole Commonwealth I 1987. Since then it has made significant contribution to development of human resources in the field of Open and Distance Education(ODE) in India and abroad. This programme was made available to students of 19 Commonwealth countries under the Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship Scheme.

The Programme is continuously updated (in 1996) and revised (in 2000) to maintain its international standard. The programme is also available to students in Africa through UNESCOIICBA collaboration, and to students of Sri Lanka through the Distance education Modernization Project(DEMP), Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.

The programme aims at

  • Promoting awareness about the concept and utility of open and distance education in India and other developing countries; and

Developing the much-needed human resources for the existing open universities and correspondence/distance education centres, and may more that may come up in the near future.

Target Group

Basically this programme has been designed for people like you, who have an interest in open and distance education(either by virtue of being an employee in the ODE system or willingness to work in the system). In-service teachers in Correspondence Course Institutes/ Distance Education Centres and Open Universities would highly benefit from the Programme.

Teleconferencing

Teleconferencing is a one-way video and two-way audio facility. Teleconferencing will be held every month. During teleconferencing session, you will get an opportunity to interact by phone in facility or fax with the resource persons/experts who participate in teleconferencing session and clear your doubts immediately.

The teleconferencing facility will be available at the Regional Centre and Selected Study Centres. The teleconferencing schedule will be sent to the Programme In-charge and Regional Director who would inform the students. Teleconferencing is done through Gyan Darshan Channel. Students must regularly attend these sessions. These will help them clarify doubts and interact with other learners all over the country.

Radio Counselling

Radio counselling will be held through FM and students can ask questions free of cost with phone in facilities right from their homes. A toll free telephone number 110012345 has been provided for this purpose.

The programme will also be telecast through DD Metro channel and schedule will be informed to students in advance.

Audio-video Programme

Audio and video programmes for each course have been prepared to support learning for the students. These Audio-video programmes in the form of cassettes are available at all Programme Study Centres. These Audio and video cassettes will be provided for viewing and listening. They can also hire the cassettes for viewing and listening.

Students will be required to complete seventy-five percent attendance in theory counselling to become eligible for appearing in Term-end Examination. Similarly, they will be required to complete ninety percent attendance in practical contact sessions to become eligible for appearing in practical examination.

Continuous Evaluation of Theory Component

Assignments

Assignment is a means of continuing assessment of theory and practical. Assignments will help you to recapitulate the theory and go back to the text again in case students are unable to answer a particular question. Thus assignments also help to reinforce learning in distance learning system of education. These assignments consist of a set of questions and activities that you will answer at your own place by referring your blocks. The assignments will cover all types of questions (long answer type, short answer type, objective type, multiple choice questions and case studies). The assignments will carry thirty percent weightage. Students will be required to obtain fifty percent marks as pass percentage in each assignment separately. Each assignment will carry 100 marks. In the final result assignments will carry thirty percent weightage.

Term-end Examination

As stated earlier, term-end examination is the major component of the evaluation system and if carries seventy percent weightage in the Final result. The University conducts term-end examination twice a year i.e., in June and December. They can take the examination only after completion of the course, failing which students can take the same in December or June of subsequent years years within the total span of the programme. In case any student fail to get a pass score in the Tern-end Examination, the person will be eligible to reappear at the next Term-end Examination for that course as and when if is held, within the total span of the Programme.
