Samajavaragamana Review: ప్రివ్యూ రివ్యూ: సామజవరగమన

శ్రీవిష్ణు కథానాయకుడిగా తెరకెక్కిన తాజా చిత్రం..‘సామజవరగమన’. ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉందో తెలియాలంటే ఈ రివ్యూ చదివేయండి.

వైవిధ్య‌మైన క‌థ‌ల‌కు.. ప‌సందైన వినోదాల‌కు నెల‌వుగా నిలుస్తుంటాయి శ్రీవిష్ణు చిత్రాలు. అదే ఆయ‌న బ‌లం కూడా. అయితే ఇటీవ‌ల ఇమేజ్‌ను మార్చుకునే క్ర‌మంలో మాస్ యాక్ష‌న్ క‌థ‌ల వైపు దృష్టి సారించి వ‌రుస‌గా చేదు ఫ‌లితాలు అందుకున్నారు. దీంతో ఆయ‌న త‌న‌కు బాగా క‌లిసొచ్చిన పంథాలోకే తిరిగి అడుగు పెట్టారు. ‘వివాహ భోజ‌నంబు’ సినిమాతో ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని న‌వ్వించిన దర్శకుడు రామ్ అబ్బ‌రాజుతో క‌లిసి  ‘సామ‌జ‌వ‌ర‌గ‌మ‌న’ అనే వినోదాత్మ‌క చిత్రాన్ని సిద్ధం చేశారు. సినిమా విడుదల నేపథ్యంలో టీమ్‌ ప్రివ్యూ షో వేసింది. ఆ సినిమా రివ్యూ మీ కోసం. క‌థేంటంటే: బాలు (శ్రీవిష్ణు) ఏషియ‌న్ మ‌ల్టీప్లెక్స్‌లో ఉద్యోగం చేస్తుంటాడు. సంపాదించే ప్ర‌తి రూపాయిని జాగ్ర‌త్త‌గా ఖ‌ర్చు పెట్టే స‌గ‌టు మ‌ధ్య‌త‌ర‌గ‌తి వ్య‌క్తి మ‌న‌స్త‌త్వం త‌న‌ది. తండ్రి ఉమా మహేశ్వ‌ర‌రావు (న‌రేష్‌)ను డిగ్రీ పాస్ చేయించేందుకు తిప్ప‌లు ప‌డుతుంటాడు. ఎందుకంటే ఆయ‌న డిగ్రీ పూర్తి చేస్తేనే త‌న తాత వీలునామా ప్ర‌కారం కోట్ల రూపాయ‌ల ఆస్తి చేతికొస్తుంది. ఆయ‌న డిగ్రీ స‌ప్లిమెంట‌రీ ప‌రీక్ష‌లు రాసే క్ర‌మంలో స‌ర‌యు (రెబా మోనికా జాన్‌)తో ప‌రిచ‌యం ఏర్ప‌డుతుంది. ఆ త‌ర్వాత ఆమె పేయింగ్ గెస్ట్‌గా బాలు ఇంట్లోకి అడుగు పెడుతుంది. ‘ఐ ల‌వ్ యూ’ అంటే చాలు ఆ చెప్పిన అమ్మాయితో బ‌ల‌వంతంగా రాఖీ క‌ట్టించుకునే బాలు, స‌ర‌యుతో ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డ‌తాడు. ఇద్ద‌రూ పెద్ద‌ల్ని ఒప్పించి పెళ్లి చేసుకోవ‌డానికి ఓ ప్ర‌ణాళిక కూడా ర‌చిస్తారు. అయితే త‌న‌ బావ పెళ్లి బాలుకు ఓ విచిత్ర‌మైన స‌మ‌స్య తెచ్చిపెడుతుంది. మ‌రి ఆ స‌మ‌స్య ఏంటి? త‌న‌ బావ పెళ్లికి.. బాలు- స‌ర‌యు ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌కు ఉన్న లింకేంటి? అస‌లు స‌ర‌యు కుటుంబ నేప‌థ్య‌మేంటి? వీళ్ల ప్రేమ క‌థ చివ‌ర‌కు ఏమైంది? బాలు తండ్రి డిగ్రీ పాసై త‌న ఆస్తి ద‌క్కించుకున్నాడా? లేదా? అన్న‌వి తెర‌పై చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి (Samajavaragamana Review).

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ‘ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని క‌డుపుబ్బా న‌వ్వించ‌డ‌మే ల‌క్ష్యంగా చేసిన చిత్ర‌మిది’.. శ్రీవిష్ణు ప్ర‌తి ఇంట‌ర్వ్యూలో ఈ సినిమా గురించి చెప్పిన మాటిది. ఈ చిత్రం మొద‌లైన‌ప్ప‌టి నుంచి ముగింపు వ‌ర‌కు తెర‌పై క‌నిపించే ప్ర‌తి సీన్ ఆయ‌న చెప్పిన మాట‌కు అనుగుణంగా న‌వ్వులు పూయిస్తూ సాగుతుంది. నిజానికి ఈ చిత్ర లైన్ చాలా చిన్న‌దే అయినా దాన్ని అల్లుకున్న తీరులోనే ఓ కొత్త‌ద‌నం ఉంది. సాధార‌ణంగా ప్ర‌తి సినిమాలో కొడుకు స‌రిగా చ‌దవ‌ట్లేదంటూ స‌తాయించే తండ్రుల్ని చూశాం. కానీ, ఇందులో వెరైటీగా కొడుకే తండ్రిని చ‌దువుకోమంటూ స‌తాయిస్తుంటాడు. తండ్రిని డిగ్రీ పాస్ చేయించేందుకు ర‌క‌ర‌కాల తిప్ప‌లు ప‌డుతుంటాడు. ఆ ప్ర‌య‌త్నాల‌న్నీ ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని క‌డుపుబ్బా న‌వ్విస్తుంటాయి. సినిమా ప్రధ‌మార్ధ‌మంతా ప్ర‌ధానంగా ఈ ట్రాక్‌పైన ఆధార‌ప‌డి ముందుకు సాగుతుంది. ఉద్యోగం నుంచి రిటైర్ అయ్యే వ‌య‌సులో డిగ్రీ ప‌రీక్ష‌లు రాస్తూ న‌రేష్ ప‌డే ఇబ్బందులు.. తండ్రిని ఎలాగైనా పాస్ చేయించాల‌ని కొడుకు ప‌డే త‌ప‌న‌.. ఈ తండ్రీకొడుకుల మ‌ధ్య వ‌చ్చే చిన్న చిన్న గొడ‌వ‌లు.. ప్ర‌తిదీ స‌ర‌దాగా సాగుతూ న‌వ్విస్తుంది. హీరో ఇంట్లోకి క‌థానాయిక పేయింగ్ గెస్ట్‌గా ఎంట‌ర్ అయ్యాక క‌థ మ‌రో మ‌లుపు తిరుగుతుంది. త‌న ఇంట్లోకి వ‌చ్చిన స‌ర‌యును బాలు ట్రీట్ చేసే తీరు.. అత‌ని ప్ర‌వ‌ర్త‌న‌తో ఆమె ప‌డే ఇబ్బందులు ఫ‌న్నీగా అనిపిస్తాయి. త‌న‌కు ఐ ల‌వ్ యూ చెప్పిన అమ్మాయిల‌తో బాలు రాఖీ క‌ట్టించుకోవ‌డం వెన‌కున్న క‌థ‌ కూడా స‌ర‌దాగా ఉంటుంది.

ఇక రాఖీ పండ‌గ‌ను అమ్మాయిలు ఎలా క‌మ‌ర్షియ‌ల్‌గా మార్చారో వివ‌రిస్తూ.. బాలు ఇచ్చే ఓ నాన్‌స్టాప్ లెక్చ‌ర్ కుర్రాళ్ల‌తో విజిల్స్ వేయిస్తుంది.  స‌ర‌యుతో బాలు ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డే స‌న్నివేశాలు చాలా క‌న్విన్సింగ్‌గా ఉంటాయి. దీని కోసం ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు రాసుకున్న ట్రాక్ కూడా కొత్త‌గానే అనిపిస్తుంది. విరామానికి ముందు వీళ్ల ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌లో వ‌చ్చే ట్విస్ట్ ద్వితీయార్థం ఏం జ‌రుగుతుంద‌న్న ఆస‌క్తిని క‌లిగిస్తుంది. త‌న బావ పెళ్లి వ‌ల్ల బాలు ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌కు ఎదురైన‌ విచిత్ర‌మైన స‌మ‌స్య‌తో ద్వితీయార్థం మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. స‌ర‌యు కుటుంబం.. వాళ్ల పాత్ర‌ల్ని తీర్చిదిద్దిన తీరు.. వాళ్ల అతి ప్రేమానురాగాల‌తో బాలు, అత‌ని కుటుంబం ప‌డే ఇబ్బందులు ఆద్యంతం న‌వ్వులు పూయిస్తాయి. ఇక బాలుకు రాఖీ క‌ట్టించేందుకు స‌ర‌యు తండ్రి త‌న కుటుంబంతో ఇంటికి వ‌చ్చి చేసే హంగామా.. దాన్ని త‌ప్పించుకునేందుకు బాలు ప‌డే పాట్లు ఎంతో స‌ర‌దాగా అనిపిస్తాయి. నిజానికి ప్ర‌ధ‌మార్ధంతో పోలిస్తే ద్వితీయార్థంలో క‌థ కాస్త నెమ్మదించినట్లు అనిపించినా.. ఇలాంటి ఫ‌న్నీ ఎపిసోడ్స్ ఎక్క‌డా బోర్ కొట్టించ‌కుండా సినిమాని లాగించేశాయి. ఇక సెకండాఫ్‌లో కుల శేఖ‌ర్‌గా వెన్నెల కిషోర్ చేసే హంగామా కూడా హాయిగా న‌వ్విస్తుంది. ఆయ‌న ట్రాక్ యూట్యూబ్‌లోని ఓ ఫేమ‌స్ కంటెంట్‌కు స్పూఫ్‌లా అనిపిస్తుంది.  అలాగే జెర్సీలోని నాని  ట్రైన్ ఎపిసోడ్‌ను ఇందులో న‌రేష్‌తో స్పూఫ్ చేయించారు. అది కూడా  థియేట‌ర్లో బాగా పేలింది. సినిమా ముగింపు ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ఊహ‌ల‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగానే ఉంటుంది (Samajavaramana Review).

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: బాక్సాఫీస్ బాలు పాత్ర‌లో శ్రీవిష్ణుని త‌ప్ప మ‌రొక‌రిని ఊహించుకోలేం. ఆ పాత్ర‌లో త‌ను అంత చ‌క్క‌గా జీవించాడు. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు త‌న పాత్ర‌ను తీర్చిదిద్దిన తీరు.. అందులో ఆయ‌న క‌న‌బ‌ర్చిన కామెడీ టైమింగ్ చ‌క్క‌గా కుదిరాయి. సినిమా ఆద్యంతం ఆయ‌న చాలా హుషారుగా క‌నిపిస్తారు. న‌రేష్ కెరీర్‌లో ఉమా మ‌హేశ్వ‌ర‌రావు పాత్ర ఎంతో ప్ర‌త్యేకంగా గుర్తుండిపోతుంది. ఆయ‌న త‌న అనుభ‌వంతో ఈ పాత్ర‌కు స‌రికొత్త లుక్ తీసుకొచ్చారు. స‌ర‌యు పాత్ర‌లో రెబా మోనికా అందంగా క‌నిపించింది. ఆ పాత్ర‌లోని హాస్యాన్ని ఆమె చ‌క్క‌గా పండించింది. శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్‌, సుద‌ర్శ‌న్‌, వెన్నెల కిషోర్‌, ర‌ఘుబాబు.. ఇలా ప్ర‌తి ఒక్క‌రూ తెర‌పై క‌నిపించినంత సేపూ త‌మ వంతు న‌వ్వించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశారు. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు త‌న రైటింగ్ స్కిల్‌తో.. టేకింగ్ ప్ర‌తిభ‌తో ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని రెండు గంట‌ల పాటు చ‌క్క‌గా కూర్చోబెట్టి న‌వ్వించాడు. సినిమాలో అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా వినిపించిన రెండు మూడు డ‌బుల్ మీనింగ్ డైలాగులు మిన‌హా మిగ‌తా చిత్ర‌మంతా చాలా క్లీన్‌గా ఉంది. గోపీసుంద‌ర్ అందించిన పాట‌లు గుర్తుంచుకునేలా లేవు. నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. నందు స‌విరిగాన సంభాష‌ణ‌లు బాగున్నాయి. రామ్ రెడ్డి ఛాయాగ్ర‌హ‌ణం డీసెంట్‌గా ఉంది. నిర్మాణ విలువ‌లు క‌థ‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉన్నాయి (Samajavaragamana Review).

'Samajavaragamana' review: A family-above-all kind of film with solid, crowd-pleasing writing

When Sarayu (Reba Monica John) asks the family she is living with as a paying guest to treat her as one of their own, it feels odd for the next fifteen minutes or so, till we get a reason in the form of Balu (Sree Vishnu), the boy she eventually falls in love with. The answer snowballs into an ongoing theme when we meet her Rajahmundry-based family in the second half and have their proclivity for familial bonds be driven home, only for it to circle back to Balu and Sarayu.

There is a lot of love and family in the film, just not in the ways one can imagine them together. As the film unfolds over its two-hour odd runtime, Balu’s relationship with Sarayu is but the catalyst that enables many of the film’s other love stories to emerge — the love for families, the love for love marriages (and the loops they go through to find acceptance in India) and the love for rhyme-y, dialogue-heavy, observational comedy specific to Telugu cinema — that makes the film stand out as a noteworthy example in the family entertainer genre with writing that refuses to take anything, most of it itself, for granted. 

Family entertainers are technically not a genre, if anything they can be characterised by its inability to adhere to the norms of a single genre, crunching action, comedy, romance and drama into one standalone feature. In other words, family entertainers are the cinematic equivalent of multi-cuisine restaurants, the proverbial jackfruit of all, master chef of none. Full disclosure, Samajavaragamana does not fare entirely well either with its all-too-obvious Ramoji Film City sets or cut-to-foreign location songs (this time it is the Sultanate of Oman), all of which serve as reminders of how this genre is practically a relic. But there are some surprises in store — like when we see Bala’s father (A very funny Naresh) struggle to pass his degree exams for three decades. There are enough jokes on how a man at his age is still struggling to pass college (“shashtipoorthi cheskune vayasu lo degree poorthi chesthunaaru enti”) but this is followed with some due urgency. Being a college graduate is what stands between him and a large inheritance, which his other siblings have gotten long back, an event that results in Balu’s extended family sharing haves vs have-nots dynamic on full blast.

Balu is seen as the sole breadwinner of his middle-class unit, working as a manager in a multiplex. In typical breadwinner fashion, he does not switch on lights when they are not needed, frowns upon buying multiplex popcorn and rarely takes leaves (he is seen at his workplace two hours after attending a wedding). Here is where the director takes his time through the first half to voice his support for the men who choose responsibilities over overarching displays of romance. In another part of the film, there is also some bawdy humour that mocks teenage girls falling in love with auto drivers and chaat bandi guys, to add on to the film’s stance against the love that treads the path of impulsiveness and irresponsibility.

While this is arguably the inner voice of this filmmaker (and many men), it also provides narrative padding to Sree Vishnu’s inability to come off as a boyfriend convincingly. One would not have questioned the actor here, for not turning into 90s Shah Rukh Khan when the occasion demanded him to, but it is nice to know that we get explanations that are actually just a part of the story.

The latter portions of the film also opt for some commentary on caste, through the characters played by Vennela Kishore and Rajeev Kanakala. Much like 2019’s Evarikee Cheppodu (whose main lead Rakesh Varre bears some resemblance to Sree Vishnu), there are no caste names mentioned out loud. One can say they are playing it safe here (even K Viswanath and Srikanth Addala never mentioned the castes of their characters in Swayamkrushi and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, deploying subtext instead) but, choosing against citing certain castes also serves a particular (well-intentioned but debatable) message well. Discrimination is as discrimination does. As of now, this is the furthest Telugu cinema can move forward in its depiction of angst against the evils of caste-based prejudice. 

Samajavaragamana’s comedy is one of its biggest strengths, playing to the gallery while being extremely self aware. Just when you think for the umpteenth time about the ubiquity of rhyming dialogues in Telugu cinema, the film’s writers also join you for a moment, by referencing Trivikram himself — with a gleeful clapback to the “rendu chethulu jebulo pettukuni… dialogue. Lakshman Tekumudi, whose very claim to fame is reviewing films outside the Prasads multiplex in a series of rhyming lines, weighs in as well, featuring in a meta appearance in the film as an eve-teaser. 

There are gleeful clapbacks to films and memes, in addition to observational humour, satire and your classic blue comedy, all of which makes this film a strong contender for a theatre watch. Samajavaragamana’s writing really makes one wonder. If this is what can be achieved with a genre so familiar and choc-a-bloc with cliches, then why aren’t people doing it more often? Why is good writing rare? If writing is what can make or break a film…if proper screenwriting is less serendipitous and more in one’s control than star power or extravagant budgets, then why are writers so underpaid? Why are writers on strike in another part of the world? In a film with so much to say about many social issues, this is yet another message that comes off without much effort.

When Sarayu (Reba Monica John) asks the family she is living with as a paying guest to treat her like a family member, it feels odd for the next fifteen minutes or so — till we get an answer in the form of Balu (Sree Vishnu), the boy she eventually falls in love with. The answer snowballs into an ongoing theme when we meet her Rajahmundry-based family in the second half and have their proclivity for familial bonds be driven home, only for it to circle back to Balu and Sarayu. There is a lot of love and family in the film, just not in the ways one can imagine them together. As the film unfolds over its two-hour odd runtime, Balu’s relationship with Sarayu is but the catalyst that enables many of the film’s other love stories to emerge — the love for families, the love for love marriages (and the loops they go through to find acceptance in India) and the love for a rhyme-y, dialogue heavy, observational comedy specific to Telugu cinema — that makes the film stand out as a noteworthy example in the family entertainer genre with writing that refuses to take anything, most of it itself, for granted.

Family entertainers are technically not a genre, if anything they can be characterised by its inability to adhere to the norms of a single genre, crunching action, comedy, romance and drama into one standalone feature. In other words, family entertainers are the cinematic equivalent of multi-cuisine restaurants, the proverbial jackfruit of all, masterchef of none. Full disclosure, Samajavaragamana does not fare entirely well either with its all-too-obvious Ramoji Film City sets or cut-to-foreign location songs (this time it is the Sultanate of Oman), all of which serve as reminders for how this genre is practically a relic. But there are some surprises in store — like when we see Bala’s father (A very funny Naresh) struggle to pass his degree exams for three decades. There are enough jokes on how a man at his age is still struggling to pass college (“shashtipoorthi cheskune vayasu lo degree poorthi chesthunaaru enti”) but this is followed with some due urgency. Being a college graduate is what stands between him and a large inheritance, which his other siblings have gotten long back, an event that results in Balu’s extended family sharing a haves vs have-nots dynamic on full blast.

Balu is seen as the sole breadwinner of his middle class unit, working as a manager in a multiplex. In typical breadwinner fashion, he does not switch on lights when they are not needed, frowns upon buying multiplex popcorn and rarely takes leaves (he is seen at his workplace two hours after attending a wedding). Here is where the director takes his time through the first half to voice his support for the men who choose responsibilities over overarching displays of romance. In another part of the film, there is also some bawdy humour that mocks teenage girls falling in love with auto drivers and chaat bandi guys, to add on to the film’s stance against love that treads the path of impulsiveness and irresponsibility. While this is arguably the inner voice of this filmmaker (and many men), it also provides narrative padding to Sree Vishnu’s inability to come off as a boyfriend convincingly. One would not have questioned the actor here, for not turning into 90s Shah Rukh Khan when the occasion demanded him to, but it is nice to know that we get explanations that are actually just a part of the story.

Samajavaragamana review: This father-son comedy caper makes you laugh your lungs out

Ram Abbaraju's latest directorial is a rare film that leaves your stomach hurt, especially as you observe your giggle turning into a guffaw.

Director Ram Abbaraju of Vivaha Bhojanam (2021) fame has come up with Samajavaragamana (Walking with a Giant of an Elephant) this time.

Starring Sree Vishnu and Reba Monica John in the lead roles, the story revolves around a relatable subject — marriage.

Even as the film is set to hit the screens on 29 June, here’s our review:

Balu (Sree Vishnu) works in a cosy multiplex while fighting the typical travails of running a middle-class family.

The property that his father Uma Mahesh (VK Naresh) inherits can only be transferred if the latter obtains a degree certificate. And it remains a mission unaccomplished for the last 25 years.

Given the distant implications, Balu develops thrifty, honest and aspirational qualities. He decides upon saying no to love proposals from girls. Being the sole breadwinner of his family, Balu couldn’t afford this luxury. He would turn every girl into his sister and make them tie rakhi.

Here’s when Reba Monica’s character Jaan steps into his life, takes him in her arms and plants a resounding kiss, thus awakening all his sensual points.

The latter half of the movie explores the impediment to the hero accepting Reba’s marriage proposal. Will his father pass Uma Mahesh his degree exam to inherit the property to the family’s name is the story that awaits you.

A rib-tickling watch.

Sometimes you wouldn’t know where to start while describing a film when it gives deep, loud and hearty laughter to almost every sequence – from the word go to the end frame.

Samajavaragamana is one rare film that leaves your stomach hurt, especially as you observe your giggle turning into a guffaw. However, the intensity of laughter differs from individual and you can’t help when you’re so immune to the jokes.

The father-son comedy track works big time. Your rib cage starts contracting whenever Sree Vishnu and VK Naresh appear on the screen. Sree Vishnu’s characterisation as an annoyed middle-class employee and his endless attempts to get his father to sail through the degree exams is a rib-tickling episode.

You may feel that Sree Vishnu’s “Godavari” dialect probably gave him the edge in perfectly nailing the comedy timing. But you know the credit for the freshness in dialogues should go to writer Nandu Savirigana.

Director Ram Abbaraju should be duly credited for connecting the dots to get the perfect picture in the end.

Performances.

Sree Vishnu and VK Naresh take over the control of the entire first half dishing out unlimited laughter.

Samajavaragamana comes as a fresh breeze for Sree Vishnu who is grappling with a flop streak after Raja Raja Chora (2021).

For senior actor VK Naresh, the film is another rewarding experience as a supporting actor.

Nellore Sudarshan is another acting talent who has this knack for emoting audiences with his expressions and voice. He plays Box Office Badshah. His combination scenes with Sree Vishnu are another highlight of the movie.

Debutante Reba Monica bagged a hit with her debut. Her role as a fun, college-goer is impressive.

In the second half, Vennela Kishore’s character Kula Sekhar draws whistles from the crowd. This will remain one of the memorable on-screen performances in his career, though he delivered a long list of rib-tickling performances in the past.

Kula Sekhar is a caste fanatic who wants his clan to grow and outperform other humans on the planet. He would even ask a beggar his caste before he has to offer anything. Even in his life-death situations, Kula Sekhar would seek help only from his caste!

Srikanth Iyengar and Rajeev Kanakala impress us with their roles.

Raghu Babu as principal Saraswathi looks good. Imax Lakshman grabs some screen time in the film and does well.

Technicalities.

Apart from the humour, Samajavaragamana banks big on its story and the screenplay that makes you glued to the screen.

Cinematographer Raam Reddy does well in giving rich visuals and music from Gopi Sundar does enough to elevate the story.

The party number “ Ee life eh choti choti re ” and the song “ Ithade Naa Humsafar ” are placed at the right time in the plot. However, you may feel the singles are just fillers for this commercial family entertainer.

Nevertheless, the film’s minor setbacks won’t show up because of the humour quotient.

For example, Sree Vishnu’s sister doesn’t fit into the space when she speaks the Telangana dialect. The character seems an oddball in the entire family who mostly has the roots of Andhra nativity.

In a scene, Goparaju Ramana gets preachy at the Registrar’s office when a bride arrives too early from the scheduled time and waits for her fiancé. This appears as if it’s forcibly inserted into the story to make the female protagonist realise how important it is to select a responsible groom.

Such sequences look outlandish and superficial, non-synch with reality. But the intensity of laughter and suspense in the story until the last minute overshadows these not-so-glaring blunders.

But in the end, you may experience a sense of lightness in you because of two hours of continuous laughter.

In all, Samajavaragamana is like a fresh breeze of entertainment for Tollywood which hasn’t witnessed any all-round entertainer in the recent past. Watch it and laugh your lungs out.

Samajavaragamana (2023) Movie: What's Behind

Sree Vishnu's upcoming entertainer Samajavaragamana is appealing to movie lovers with an interesting feel-good title. The film's teaser and trailer got a good response and with Mega Star Chiranjeevi releasing the trailer, expectations increased. Debutante Ram Abbaraju directs the film. The film's OTT rights are yet to be finalized and streaming will be after the end of its theatrical run. The film is slated for a grand release on 29 June 2023 and let us find out what Sree Vishnu offered to movie lovers.

Samajavaragamana Movie: Story Review

Samajavaragamana's story is about two youngsters falling in love and how their love story progresses vis a vis their family members. Balu aka Balasubramaniam (Sree Vishnu) works at the box office at Asian Cinemas. He happens to meet a beautiful girl Sarayu (Reba Monica John) while helping his father Uma Maheswara Rao (Sr Naresh).

In the process, they fall in love but even as they try to get the green signal from Sarayu's father (Sreekanth Iyengar), they come across startling developments. To find out those startling developments and how Badshah (Sudarshan), Kulasekhar (Vennela Kishore), and others are connected to it form the rest of the story.

Samajavaragamana Movie: Artists Review

Sree Vishnu slipped into the role effortlessly. His body language is good and his screen presence is captivating. He tried variations in his dialogue delivery. Sree Vishnu showed emotions and expressions as a caring son who loves his family and also a frustrated youngster who tries his best to win over his love. He carried the film on his shoulders and this role will be remembered as one of his best.

Reba Monica John on debut managed to win the hearts of all. She is good in the role of a bubbly and beautiful girl. Her chemistry with Sree Vishnu is the highlight of the film. She looked beautiful in a few scenes and looked apt for the girl-next-door role. Sr Naresh in the role of Sree Vishnu's father is the livewire in the film. His body language, dialogue delivery, mannerisms, and screen presence elevated the scenes to another level.

The scenes featuring Sree Vishnu and Sr Naresh livened up the atmosphere. Sree Vishnu and Sr Naresh with their performances created a laughing riot in the theatres.  Sudarshan is good in the role of Sree Vishnu's friend while Vennela Kishore made his presence felt in the role of Kulasekhar. Srikanth Iyengar made an impression with his performance. Rajeev Kanakala played an important role in the film which connects the missing link. Others like Raghu Babu, Devi Prasad, and Priya performed according to their roles.

Samajavaragamana Movie: Technicians Review

Samajavaragamana's story penned by Ram Abbaraju is nothing new. Many stories came earlier but he turned it entertaining with his screenplay and direction loading it with hilarious and entertaining scenes and dialogues. The way he showed father-son bonding with Naresh trying to clear the exam or Sree Vishnu trying to avoid love by trying rakhis, the scenes featuring Naresh and Sree Visnu or Naresh and Reba Monica John shows his penchant for comic timing and love for funny and entertaining elements.

He also connected the emotional chords, especially during the climax and this took the film to another level. It is known that for any film, climax becomes the make or break and here climax turned out to be the plus point. After all the hilarious scenes, he touched the emotional chords of all with the climax. It is true that logic went for a toss but that can be ignored as the director Ram Abbaraju's main aim which is to entertain movie lovers got fulfilled.

Dialogues should be mentioned especially as they are witty, spontaneous, and hilarious. However, right into the second half, the Rakhi scene and a few other scenes got dragged but whenever viewers felt that the scenes are stretched, the director made amends with hilarious dialogue. Ram Abbaraju got the optimum out of all the cast and crew and he emerged successful on his debut attempt.

Gopi Sunder came up with a couple of melodious and few foot-tapping numbers. All the songs are situational and are beautifully shot. They are placed perfectly in such a way that they do not disturb the narration in any manner. His background music is in sync with the storyline and ensured that the narration flowed in a smooth way. Chota K Prasad's editing is quite good in the first half but he left a few drags in the second half where repetitive scenes crept in. However, he did a decent job altogether. Production values of Haasya Movies and AK Entertainments are grand.

Altogether, Samajavaragamana is a light-hearted hilarious entertainer. Debutante Ram Abbaraju penned a story with family elements that are routine and predictable. However, he designed Sree Vishnu's character in such a way that it suits his body language. Aided by Sr Naresh's experience and hilarious scenes, though logic is missed and the narration lacks twists and turns, he ensured that witty dialogues will create a laughing riot. Though at times, a few scenes are dragged, he made up for that by generating immense fun. His screenplay and direction are quite good and considering all these points, Ram Abbaraju on debut hit the success bulls eye with a hilarious arrow in a powerful manner.  Considering all these things  Cinejosh goes with a 3 Rating for Samajavaragamana .

What’s it about?

Balu (Sree Vishnu), who works in a multiplex theater, falls in love with Sarayu (Reba Monika John), a paying guest at his home. Balu’s parents adore Sarayu. When Sarayu’s cousin’s marriage is arranged, the lovers realize they are in big trouble.

How far will Balu and Sarayu go to prevent the wedding of Sarayu’s cousin? What is the issue that Balu and Sarayu believe they will face with her cousin’s marriage?

The greatest challenge for filmmakers is coming up with a new conflict in romantic comedies. Since many filmmakers have already explored all possible conflict points in the past, the rom-com genre is not easy to handle, and audiences aren’t showing much interest either for regular love stories. Given this, director Ramaraju and his writing team deserves credit for thinking a new conflict in this genre.

This is Ramaraju’s second film as a director, following ‘Vivaha Bhojanambu,’ a comedy set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 lockdown. Written by Bhanu Bogavarapu, the new conflict point of this film is what provides enough room for good laughs.

The first act is filled with standard comedy scenes, romance, and a father-son track. The film really gets going when the lovers realize that if one of the female protagonist’s family members (played by Rebha Monika in her Telugu debut) marries, they will be in big trouble. The problem is that they could not marry according to Hindu/Indian traditions.

Many of the jokes in the film are funny. The one-line dialogues, in particular (written well by Nandu Savirigana), are effective. The dialogue comedy and Sree Vishnu’s superb timing heighten the overall vibe.

After a long gap, Sree Vishnu has played a role that showcases the best of his abilities. Reba Monika, a Tamil actress, is charming and does a neat job as an actress. Naresh is hilarious as Sree Vishnu’s father. Vennela Kishore steals the show in the latter part. His brief appearance as ‘Kula Sekhar’ works well.

The writers and director stand out among the technicians.

Bottom line: “Samajavaragamana” is a comedy that offers genuine laughs. Despite some slack in the second half, it makes a time pass watch.

Music - Gopi Sundar

Sree Vishnu previously tried his hand in the action genre. After some futile attempts, he returns to comedy which is his forte. The teaser and trailer of Samajavaragamana garnered good interest. Will the film live up to the expectations? Will Sree Vishnu break the jinx and make a solid comeback? With no further delay, let’s find out.

Plot: 

Balu (Sree Vishnu), a responsible middle-class son working at a multiplex, is the sole bread-winner of his loving family. He hates love and relationships. Thus, he ensures the girls interested in him tie him Rakhi. He meets Sarayu (Reba Monica John) whom he is obliged to accept as a paying guest house. Sarayu initially falls for Balu. Things change and Balu reciprocates. Sarayu’s family and the past turns out to be a major hurdle. But this is not. Things complicate further when an unexpected problem surfaces. How Balu and Sarayu win their love is Samajavaragamana all about.

Performances

Sree Vishnu performed well as Balu. He played to his strengths – humour. The mannerism and body-language of Vishnu prove that he is the perfect choice for the role. Some lengthy dialogues mouthed by him seem to be delivered hastily. The trick may not have worked well, but his lengthy dialogues on girls get claps from guys. Naresh VK is the highlight of Samjavaragamana. His examination scenes and classroom scenes bring ROFL moments. Heroine Reba Monica does her part well. She slips into modern outfits while doing jigs in the songs and she is easy on the eyes there. Srikanth Iyengar, who got stereotyped with serious and villain roles, gets a refreshing role in this film. Nellore Sudarshan is alright as the hero’s friend. Vennela Kishore in the latter-half deserves better comedy. He sticks to his usual style. All the actors have justified their roles. 

Technicalities

Writing and direction of Samajavaragamana scores brownie points. Despite being a debutante, Ram Abbaraju pulled it off well. Production values are adequate. Songs are shot well. But Gopi Sundar’s songs failed to entertain. The placement of songs is also put off as it obstructs the story flow. Camera work and editing work are decent. The film has an adequate run-time. Technically, there is nothing much to grumble about.

Stretched Out Drama In Second-Half

Right from the word go, Samajavaragamana is entertaining.The very introduction of the characters and set-up of the film is funny. Even as audiences settle in theatres, the film turns out to be a laugh riot. Comedy is something that everyone would enjoy. But it is hard to write and tough to create on screen. Kudos to the writers for churning out good humour without any vulgarity and actors who made it. 

The first half tickles the funnybones of audiences. The scenes are fresh and the chemistry between the lead pair ably supports the film. Father-son duo scenes are hilarious in the first-half. Naresh VK gets the room in splits. The humour is imbibed organically into the story and narrative. This is where the director made his mark. The interval twist is really worth the watch. This gives a spin to the story. Revolving around a simple point on the relationship of hero-heroine, debutante director Ram Abbarajau managed to hold the interest in the film till the end. The conflict of the film is intriguing. It is unusual but holds well and credit goes to the director here.

The second-half is where Samajavaragamana’s real story unfolds and also faces some issues. It has both highs and lows. The director made sure the film has laughable moments spread evenly. In the latter half, it worked in parts. Dialogues are clapworthy.

Having said the above, Samajavaragamana still has scope to improve. Particularly, the stretched out drama in the latter-half is somewhat irking at portions. Vennela Kishore thread is cliched. It has become too routine. Probably, better writing of Kishore’s comedy would have taken the film to the next level. Barring its shortcomings, Samajavaragamana delivers. It caters to what it aims for. Go for this out-and-out entertainer and you won’t complain much. It gives a satisfying feeling of watching humour in cinemas after a longtime.

Middle-class Balu (Sree Vishnu) works at a multiplex ticket sales counter. Balu’s ambition is to make his father (Naresh) pass a degree because only if his father gets the degree the grandfather’s property will get into their hands. After failing the exams for two decades, finally, Dad asks a youngster Sarayu (Reba Monica John) to help him in clearing the exams. Sarayu joins Balu’s home as a paying guest. Sarayu loves Balu but Balu refuses to. The rest of the movie is about whether Balu finally accepted her or not. After accepting her what are the new challenges they encounter?

Analysis: The core strength of the film ‘ Samajavaragamana ‘ is the writing. Right from the word go audience does notice the freshness in the story, Quality of the dialogue writing. Director Ram Abbaraju delivers an engaging and relatable narrative. Dialogue writer Nandu has come up with contemporary youth lingo as well as homely family-oriented dialogues. The first half of the film is one of the best entertainers in recent times. Sree Vishnu and Naresh breathe life into their characters. Reba Monica performs her role effectively. This debut heroine takes time to sync, effective as the movie progresses. Srikanth Iyengar, and Nellore Sudhakar got meaty roles and they did well. In the second half, Vennela Kishore makes an entry as ‘ Kula Sekhar ‘ and delivers satires on those with caste feelings. On the songs front, Gopi Sundar could have done better work. Only one song ‘ Dhak Dhak Duniya ‘ is appealing.

The second half of the film is also appealing but compared to the first half it falls a little short. The main point of the second half is a little stretched. A simple climax effectively closes the film on a Happy note. Production values are decent and more than required for a comedy film. The songs are well filmed but disrupt the narrative.

Samajavaragamana offers superb comedy entertainment, engaging scenes, and mainly fresh story after a long time in Telugu. It’s Youthful and appeals to families as well. Go and watch this film on Big Screen with the entire family.

Samajavaragamana is a Telugu language comedy & family entertainer which has the story by Bhanu Bogavarapu and is directed by Ram Abbaraju of ‘Vivaha Bhojanambu’ fame. The film has Sree Vishnu & Reba Monica John in the lead roles, while V.K. Naresh, Sudarshan, Sreekanth Iyengar, Vennela Kishore, Raghu Babu, Rajeev Kanakala, Devi Prasad, Priya & others are seen in important roles. The music is composed by Gopi Sundar and the film is produced by Razesh Danda & Anil Sunkara under Hasya Movies & Ak Entertainments banners.

Balu (Sree Vishnu) is a middle-class youth who works at Asian Cinemas and takes care of his entire family. His father (V.K. Naresh) is still trying to complete his degree exams. In the process of making his dad pass the exams, Balu meets Sarayu (Reba Monica John) and falls in love. But there is a twist in the tale as Sarayu happens to be Balu’s sister due to a wedding that takes place between both their families. What happens later needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Sree Vishnu gives one of his career-best performances in this film. He is just hilarious as Balu and his comedy timing is on point. His voice modulations, dialogue delivery, and funny antics will surely entertain everyone big time in the theatres. His single-take long monologue is one of the biggest highlights of the film and shows how good an actor he is.

V.K. Naresh is another great asset to the film. He just runs the entire first half of the film on his own shoulders and all his scenes with Sree Vishnu are a treat. This is undoubtedly one of the best characters in his second innings and his comedy timing is impeccable.

Reba Monica John is very beautiful and gives out an excellent performance in her Telugu debut film. She is surely one of the best finds of the new set of actresses that have come out in the recent past.

Sudarshan plays the hero’s best friend and he is very funny in his part.

Sreekanth Iyengar also adds to the fun in the second half as the heroine’s father. It is good to see him do a full-length comedy.

Vennela Kishore makes a special entry and entertains with his trademark comedy. But his particular track on caste could have been handled in a better way as it looks a bit irritating.

Raghu Babu, Rajeev Kanakala, Devi Prasad, Priya, Subhash, Pramodini, Meena, & others are all good in their respective supporting roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Bhanu Bogavarapu is entertaining and has a very novel conflict point with the love story. All the characters are written in a convincing manner and it has all the ingredients required for a complete family entertainer.

The screenplay by Ram Abbaraju is pretty decent. It is very good in the first half with non-stop comedy but the pace does go down at the start of the second half. There are a few repetitive bits in the latter half that are stretched unnecessarily.

Also, there is absolutely no need of having songs in the narrative, and all the songs that come look very forced into the plot, especially the cut to foreign songs and the party song at the start are unwanted. A few more comedy scenes could have been written instead of these songs and the fights too.

The dialogues by Nandu Savirigana are the biggest asset of the film. They are very witty and few punch lines are very well written.

Director Ram Abbaraju does an impressive job with his craft. The way he presents the film is very neat and the way he extracts fun from all his actors is highly commendable.

The camera work by Raam Reddy is first rate while the edit by Chota K Prasad is okay.

The songs by Gopi Sundar are fine. Humsafar is the pick of the album. His background score though is good and gels well with the genre.

The production values by Hasya Movies & Ak Entertainments are adequate.

సాధారణంగా సీక్వెల్ అంటే మొదటి భాగానికి కొనసాగింపుగా ఉంటుంది. కానీ గత కొన్నాళ్లుగా సీక్వెల్ పేరుతో పూర్తిగా వేరే కథని చెప్పడం కూడా జరుగుతోంది. కేవలం టైటిల్ ఫ్రాంచైజ్ ని నడిపించడమే ఉద్దేశమే తప్ప మొదటి భాగంలో కథని కొనసాగించడం ఆ చిత్రాల ఉద్దేశం కాదు. ఈ టిల్లు స్క్వేర్ ఆ బాపతు కాదు. ఇది మొదటి భాగానికి కొనసాగింపు కథ. విషయంలోకి వెళ్దాం.

ఒక పార్టీలో టిల్లుకి తప్ప తాగి వాంతిచేసుకుంటూ ఒకమ్మాయి పరిచయమవుతుంది. ఆమె పేరు లిల్లి (అనుపమ). కలిసిన కాసేపట్లోనే ఫ్లర్టింగ్ చేసుకుని మందు మత్తులో ఆ రాత్రి కలిసి గడుపుతారు. కానీ తెల్లారే ముందే అతనికి గుడ్బై నోట్ రాసి వెళ్లిపోతుంది లిల్లి.

లిల్లి కోసం టిల్లు చాలానాళ్లు వెతుకుతాడు.

కొన్ని వారాల తర్వాత ఆమె గర్భవతినయ్యానంటూ ఎదురవుతుంది. జీవితంలో పెళ్లి చేసుకోకూడదనుకున్న టిల్లు.. తప్పేది లేక ఇరు కుటుంబాల ఒత్తిడికి, ఆమె ఏడుపుకి లొంగి పెళ్లికి ఒప్పుకుంటాడు.

ఒక రోజు టిల్లుని ఒక ఫ్లాట్ కి రమ్మని పిలుస్తుంది లిల్లి. ఆమె రోహిత్ (కిరీటి దామరాజు)కి చెల్లెలిని అని చెబుతుంది (ఈ రోహిత్ ఎవరో కాదు.. డీజే టిల్లులో రాధిక చంపేస్తే టిల్లు చేతుల మీదుగా పాతిపెట్టబడిన వాడు).

అక్కడి నుంచి కథ మలుపు తీసుకుంటుంది. ఇంతకీ లిల్లి ఉద్దేశమేంటి? టిల్లు జీవితంలోకి ఎందుకొచ్చింది? వీటి సమాధానాలే తక్కిన కథనమంతా.

ఇక్కడ కథగా చెప్పుకోవాలంటే ఇదే. కానీ నడిపించిన విధానం గురించి మాత్రం చాలా చెప్పుకోవాలి.

సినిమా అంటే రెండు-రెండున్నర గంటల పాటు ప్రేక్షకుల్ని కట్టిపారేయడమే. కథేంటి, పాత్రలేంటి, వాటి ఔచిత్యాలేంటి.. అనేవి చెప్పుకోవడానికి వీల్లేకుండా కేవలం వినోదమే ప్రధానంగా నడిపే కథనాలుంటాయి. డీజే టిల్లు అలాగే సాగింది. ఇది కూడా అంతే.

జానర్ ప్రకారం ఇది క్రైం కామెడీ. క్రైం కదా అని ఎక్కడో అక్కడ సీరియస్నెస్, సెంటిమెంట్ ఉంటాయనుకుంటే పొరపాటే.

అదే సమయంలో హీరో పాత్ర ఎదుర్కునే సమస్యలు, సవాళ్లు..తన జాతకాన్ని తానే తిట్టుకునే విధానం అన్నీ నవ్విస్తాయి, కనెక్ట్ అయ్యేలా చేస్తాయి.

అన్నిటికీ మించి సిద్ధు పాత్రలోని విలక్షణమైన డైలాగ్ డెలివెరీ ఈ చిత్రానికి ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణ. ఎంత స్టైల్ ని అడాప్ట్ చేసుకున్నా ఒక దశలో బోర్ కొట్టడం సహజం. అలా కొట్టకుండా ఉందంటే ఈ స్టైల్ ని సిద్ధు ఎంతెలా ఓన్ చేసుకున్నాడో అర్ధమవుతుంది.

స్క్రిప్ట్ విషయానికొస్తే నిజానికి ఇలా రాసుకోవడం చాలా కష్టం. చాలా డైలాగులు సెట్లో ఇంప్రొవైజ్ చేసారా అని అనిపిస్తుంది. ఎందుకంటే ఈ తరహా డైలాగ్స్ స్క్రిప్ట్ రాసుకుని తెరకెక్కించడం అంత సులభం కాదు. పూర్తిగా నటుల టైమింగ్ సెన్స్ ని, డైలాగ్ డెలివరీ స్టైల్ ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని మలచుకోవాలి. ఆ విషయంలో రైటింగ్ టీం ని మెచ్చుకోవాలి.

కథ చెప్పడం కన్నా నవ్వించడం మీదే ఫోకస్ పెట్టడం, దాని కోసం పూర్తిగా సిద్ధు పర్ఫామెన్స్ మీదే ఆధారపడడం జరిగింది.

యూత్ ఆడియన్స్ ని టార్గెట్ చేసిన ఈ చిత్రంలో అక్కడక్కడ కొన్ని ఆకట్టుకునే మొమెంట్స్ ఉన్నాయి.

ఉదాహరణకి లిల్లి పాత్ర తన అసలు రూపాన్ని రివీల్ చేస్తున్నప్పుడు ప్లే చేసిన చంద్రముఖి మ్యూజిక్ ట్రాక్ వినోదభరితంగా ఉంది.

అలాగే సాగరసంగమం ట్రాక్ వినిపించే సీన్ మొత్తం నవ్విస్తుంది.

కొన్ని చోట్ల ఒక వన్ లైనర్ కి నవ్వడం పూర్తవకుండానే ఇంకో వన్ లైనర్ పేల్చడం వల్ల నవ్వుల మధ్య అది వినపడకుండా అయింది. అలా నాన్ స్టాప్ హ్యూమర్ అందించేందుకు చాలా కష్టపడ్డారు.

ఇలా పాజిటివ్స్ ఎన్ని చెప్పుకున్నా నెగటివ్స్ కూడా లేకపోలేదు. అవేంటంటే ప్రధానంగా మొనోటనీ. డీజే టిల్లు వచ్చినప్పుడు ఆ తరహా నెరేషన్ పూర్తిగా ఫ్రెష్. కానీ అది చూసేసాక మేకింగ్ స్టైల్లో ఫ్రెష్నెస్ ఫీలయ్యే అవకాశం ఉండదు కదా!

మరో విషయం ఏంటంటే "డీజే టిల్లు" లో ఉన్న హీరోయిన్, కథ ఇక్కడ మారాయి తప్ప ఇంటర్వెల్ వరకు టెంప్లేట్ మాత్రం పూరిగా అదే.

యూత్ సినిమా అంటే మనసుకి హత్తుకునే లవ్ ట్రాక్ ఉండాలని కొందరు కోరుకోవచ్చు. అలా కోరుకునే వాళ్లకి మాత్రం నిరాశ ఎదురవ్వచ్చు. కామం, కామం వెనుక మోసం తప్ప ఇందులో లవ్ ట్రాక్ అనేది లేదు.

టెక్నికల్ గా సినిమా పాసయ్యింది. పాటలు సందర్భోచితంగా వస్తూ ఎనెర్జీ నింపాయి. వినడానికి బాగున్నాయి. నేపథ్య సంగీతం ఎంతవరకు ఉండాలో అంతవరకు ఉంది. ఎక్కడా డల్ మొమెంట్స్ లేవు. కెమెరా, ఎడిటింగ్ అన్నీ బాగున్నాయి. నిడివి 2 గంటల 16 నిమిషాలే కాబట్టి మొనోటనీ ఉన్నా మరీ భారంగా అనిపించదు.

డైలాగ్స్ పరంగా కొన్ని ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి:

- అమ్మ అస్మంటి అమ్మాయిలు లేరు బయట... అమ్మేసే అమ్మాయిలున్నారు

- నా నొప్పి దాచుకోవడానికి నేను నవ్వుతున్నాను.. నీ తప్పు దాచుకోవడానికి నువ్వు ఏడుస్తున్నావ్

- అమాంతం మింగి అస్తిపంజరాన్ని ఊసేస్తుంది.

- ఈ హరాస్మెంట్ నుంచి సిక్ లీవ్ కావాలి.

..వంటివి సందర్భోచితంగా సిద్ధు టైమింగులో వినడానికి బాగున్నాయి.

ఈ సినిమాకి షో రన్నర్ సిద్ధూయే. తన వన్ లైనర్స్ తో అదరగొట్టేసాడు. పూర్తిగా నమ్మి అతని మీద డిపెండ్ అయిపోయినందుకు సినిమాని నిలబెట్టాడు.

అనుపమ పరమేశ్వరన్ తన రొటీన్ ఇమేజ్ కి విరుద్ధంగా కాస్త గీత జరుపుకుని నటించింది. మూతిముద్దుల్లో జీవించినంత పని చేసింది. ఆమె క్యారెక్టర్ కి గ్రాఫ్ ఉన్నా ఈ పాత్ర ఆమె కెరీర్ కి ఎంతవరకు పనికొస్తుందనేది అనుమానమే. 

నేహాశెట్టి చివర్లో కాసేపు కనిపించి చప్పట్లు కొట్టించుకుంది.

మురళిశర్మ ది రెండు మూడు సన్నివేశాల్లో కనిపించే గెస్ట్ రోల్ లాంటిది. టిల్లు తండ్రిగా చేసిన మురళిధర్ గౌడ్ కనిపించినంత సేపూ నవ్వించాడు. ప్రిన్స్ పాత్ర ఒక్కటీ లౌడ్ గాను, వీక్ గానూ ఉంది. ఒకే ఒక్క షాట్ లో మాత్రం బ్రహ్మాజి కనిపించాడు. 

"డీజే టిల్లు" హిట్టవడంతో ఆ ఫ్రాంచైజ్ ని క్యాష్ చేసుకునే ఉద్దేశంతో తీసుకున్న సీక్వెల్ ఇది. టార్గెట్ ఆడియన్స్ లో అధికశాతం మందిని ఇది నిరాశపరచదు. డైలాగుల్లోను, సీన్స్ లోనూ కాస్తంత అడల్ట్ కంటెంట్ ఉన్నా ఈ టార్గెట్ ఆడియన్స్ కి అది యాక్సెప్టెబుల్ లిమిట్లోనే ఉందనుకోవాలి. వన్ లైనర్ డైలాగ్స్ ని ఎంజాయ్ చేయడానికి, ఒక చిన్నపాటి క్రైం కహానీని కామెడీ ఫ్లావర్ తో చూడ్డానికి బాగానే ఉంటుంది. సినిమా పూర్తయ్యాక గుర్తున్న అంశాలు రెండు చెప్పమంటే "అనుపమ ముద్దు", "నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్న సిద్ధు" అని చెప్పొచ్చు.

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s dream project, “The Goat Life,” which has been in the making for many years, has finally hit the screens today. The movie, directed by Blessy, is based on one of the best-selling Malayalam novels, Aadujeevitham. Mythri Movie Makers presented the film to the Telugu audience. Let’s see how the movie is.

Najeeb (Prithviraj Sukumaran), along with his companion Hakeem (KR Gokul), lands in Saudi Arabia for work. They don’t know either Hindi or English, and they look clueless in the airport. When they wait for their sponsor, Khafeel (Talib Al Balushi) understands that it is easy to cheat Najeeb and Hakeem. Khafeel takes them along with him. Najeeb is made a goatherd in a secluded farm in a desert region. He also gets separated from Hakeem. What did Najeeb do then is what The Goat Life is about.

Plus Points:

Kudos to Prithviraj Sukumaran for always trying different scripts. Attempting a film like The Goat Life is very risky, but the star Malayalam hero didn’t have any inhibitions. Prithviraj has put his blood, sweat, and tears into the film and it is impossible not to fall in love with his incredible performance. He breathed life into Najeeb’s character beautifully and showcased the helplessness in his role amazingly. The kind of different makeovers Prithviraj has undergone for The Goat Life is stunning.

Almost the entire film happens in the desert region, and the team has put in a herculean effort that needs special mention. The desert visuals and background score drive the film forward.

The sandstorm sequence, which comes at a crucial juncture, is well presented. Comparatively the second half is slightly better than the first half. Jimmy Jean-Louis and KR Gokul are pretty good in their supporting roles.

Minus Points:

Though it has been mentioned in the promotional interviews that The Goat Life isn’t an award film, the movie doesn’t have any commercial elements as such. So, if you walk in expecting a commercial entertainer, the movie might disappoint you.

The plight of the protagonist is shown in a realistic and detailed manner, which might bore a few. The movie doesn’t look cinematic at any point, which may not sit well with all sections. Prithviraj’s character can’t speak English or Hindi, so it takes a while for him to understand that he is being cheated. All these minute aspects are shown in a comprehensive way which takes more screentime.

The entire first half unfolds at a very slow pace, and this might get on to your nerves. Sometimes, it feels as if the story isn’t moving forward. It would have been better had the movie showcased the suffering of the protagonist’s family members, too. Amala Paul’s role could have been better presented.

Technical Aspects:

The background score by AR Rahman is pretty good and lifts the impact of multiple sequences. The cinematography by Sunil K.S. is commendable, and he effectively captured the suffering and pain of Prithviraj. The editing in the first half could have been better.

Coming to the director, Blessy, he narrated the story in an in-depth manner, but it would have been better had the movie team taken care of the length, which is too long. The first half could have been handled well.

On the whole, The Goat Life is a genuine attempt to depict a real-life survival story, but the slow pacing and the absence of commercial elements might restrict the film’s appeal. The lengthy runtime also is a big drawback. Prithviraj Sukumaran is outstanding in his role and he might win awards as well for his portrayal of Najeeb. As mentioned earlier, everything has been shown in a detailed manner and hence the film is slow for the most part. The first half could have been handled better though. If you like watching art films, you can give it a try.

Manjummel Boys Telugu Release Date Locked

Grossing over Rs 207 crore worldwide, director Chidambaram’s Manjummel Boys holds the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.

The survival thriller starring Soubin Shahir, Ganapathi, Khalid Rahman, and Sreenath Bhasi which was a runaway hit in Tamil is getting ready for its release in Telugu.

Mythri Movie Makers obtained the Telugu rights of the movie and they are releasing it in AP and TS on April 6th.

The movie will have the same title in Telugu as Manjummel Boys and we can expect a grand release with Mythri Movie Makers backing the Telugu version.

Manjummel Boys has universal appeal with some heavy emotions and thrills in the narrative, and the movie will certainly do well in Telugu as well. The brand value of Mythri Movie Makers will be a big advantage.

Based on a true incident from 2006, the film revolves around a group of friends from a small town called Manjummel near Kochi, who decide to have a vacation in Kodaikanal.

Sushin Shyam composed the music for the movie which has cinematography by Shyju Khalid.
