My India Essay

India is a popular country. It is a democracy and the country with the second highest population in the world.

Location Of India

India is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a part of Asia, the seventh continent. As the seventh-largest nation in the world and is well-known among people of different countries. It extends approximately 3,287,263 square kilometres. Out of this region, forests cover 712,249 sq. km. Gandhinagar also holds the distinction of being Asia's greenest city.

The Indian subcontinent and its neighbouring countries, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, share various physical characteristics. India's topography divides the country into six distinct natural areas.

The Northern Mountains

Northern plain

The Great Indian Desert

The Southern Plateau

Coastline Plains

Islands Regions

My favourite state in India is Rajasthan. Rajasthan has an illustrious past. It is renowned for its many valiant rulers and the art and architecture it produced. Because of its sandy route, this is where the nuclear test was conducted. Rajasthan offers a lot, including deserts, mountains, lakes, deep forests, beautiful oases, and temples. The name Rajasthan also describes to "Land of Sacrifice." In Rajasthan, you can visit Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, etc., to see the heritage items left behind by all the kings who once governed the region. The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur.

I live in India. Historically, India's reputation as a "Golden Bird" drew kings from other countries. We were introduced to other religions and cultures due to their arrival in India and subsequent dominance over us. Today, India houses people of different religions and cultures and we are part of this diverse and multicultural country. All of these religions have enriched our diversity by bringing with them various cultural and religious beliefs.

We were dominated by the British for a long time, and India attained independence in August 1947. Every year on August 15, we commemorate our independence.

Our crafts, music, and arts are all the best there are. This country has numerous well-known art forms, including Kathak dance in the north and Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali in the south. Similarly, two styles of music are famous here; one is called Karnataki music, and the other is called Hindustani music. It is amazing. Our literature, handloom, craft, etc., all have an unmatchable flavour.

The Indian national flag has three colours:-

Saffron, the primary and topmost colour in the flag, symbolises purity. White, the centre colour of the flag, represents peace and is the second colour. Green, which is the third and bottom-most colour on the flag, symbolises fertility. Blue Ashoka Chakra is painted on a white background. There are 24 evenly spaced spokes in the Ashoka Chakra. 29 states and seven union territories make up India.

India is rich in biodiversity. Our culture is what instils in us a genuine respect for both plants and animals. A large cultural group encourages the worship of a wide range of plants and animals, which aids in protecting them. This explains why India has the highest concentration of tigers. 54 animal sanctuaries and more than 100 national parks are found in India. Some creatures, including Bengal Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, and Lions, are found in India. Having such immense biodiversity is excellent.

Dosa is one of my favourite Indian dishes. I love eating dosa, and it is one of my favourite breakfast foods. Dosa is believed to have originated in the town of Udupi. Though it is traditional food in the south of India, Dosa is hugely popular in other parts of the country as well. The dosa is frequently referred to as the Indian continent's pancake. Dosa was initially thicker and softer in Tamil Nadu than it was in Karnataka. I enjoy preparing the fermented batter for Dosas with rice and black gramme as the key ingredients. I like to eat Dosa with chutney and sambar.

India is the most significant contemporary democracy in the world and is renowned for its rich culture and history. All areas of space, research, education, and technology development in my country are advancing swiftly. My country continued despite going through a lot of sacrifices to gain independence. India is getting ready to become a worldwide force and I am so proud of it. I wish all my fellow citizens prosperity and happiness.

Where every language sings its own signature.

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari,

We cherish her beauty with pride so merry.

Her mountains high, her valleys deep,

Her rivers flowing, their stories to keep.

The lush green fields and golden sand dunes,

All add up to her unique hues.

Amidst all the diversity, she stands tall,

A nation united, together we call.

The colours of festivals and religions galore,

All live in harmony like never before.

India, oh India my heart fills with glee,

When I think of you, your love sets me free.

With rich heritage and history so vast,

My soul yearns for you until my last breath.

From the ancient Indus to the Mughal era,

From the British rule to independence, we’ve come far.

With each passing day, we continue to rise,

Our nation’s spirit never ceases to surprise.

The warmth of her people and their welcoming nature,

Makes every visitor feel right at home for sure.

Oh India, my pride, my love for you grows more,

With each passing day, I adore you even more.

PM Modi’s vision is strong and sustainable, where every individual will be offered decent living standards and an opportunity to serve their mother country.

Spirit Lake Tribe declares State of Emergency, enters lockdown

Amelia Schafer

ICT + Rapid City Journal

The Spirit Lake Nation is on lockdown following an ongoing manhunt in Fort Totten, North Dakota, days after the announcement of a State of Emergency.

On April 4 at noon central time, the tribe initiated a lockdown across the 405 square mile reservation as police searched for Kolby McKay. At 3 p.m., the tribe announced an additional curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. McKay is considered armed and dangerous.

On March 27, the tribe declared a state of emergency after two people disappeared on the reservation in three months.

The emergency declaration stated that the tribe had exhausted its available resources searching for the two individuals. A majority of the reservation is open land, woodlands, and open waterways including Devils Lake.

Jemini Posey, 21, was last seen on Jan. 7 in Fort Totten. Posey told her boyfriend she was going out with a friend and would be back soon, she hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Posey is Native American/White with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She is 4 feet, 7 inches and 125 pounds.

Issac Hunt, 27, was last seen on March 8 leaving his dad’s house in Saint Michael, North Dakota. Hunt is Native American with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, white Nikes, a gray Reebok pullover hoodie, a black jacket and a white Adidas hat. Hunt is 5 feet, 10 inches and 150 pounds.

The tribe is offering two $5,000 awards for information leading to the location of both individuals.

According to the North Dakota Missing Person’s Clearinghouse, eight Indigenous people have been reported missing since 2023 by the Fort Totten BIA agency which oversees the Spirit Lake Reservation. An additional two Indigenous people were reported missing in the border town of Devils Lake, ND in 2023. None of the missing people have a photo available within the Clearinghouse.

Approximately 30 percent of the total missing people in North Dakota are Indigenous.

Anyone with information about the two missing individuals is encouraged to call the Fort Totten Police Department at (701) 766-4231, the Devils Lake Police Department at (701) 662-0700, or the FBI tip line at (800) 225-5324.

5 Things to Know to Understand India’s Economy Under Modi

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third term, India’s growth has received the attention of the world’s investors but inequality has deepened.

Two construction workers on a rooftop, both kneeling and one wearing a yellow hard hat.

By Alex Travelli

Reporting from New Delhi

Narendra Modi has big money behind him as he appears set to win a third term as India’s prime minister. His party has collected more political cash than the others combined, and the country’s richest business leaders support him.

The campaign is fueled partly by a winning story Mr. Modi tells about India’s economy, some of which can be traced to changes made during his decade in office. He has also benefited from geopolitical currents that have made India more attractive to global financiers. Here are five factors that are essential to understanding India’s economy. Elections will start on April 19 and conclude June 4.

India is big and getting bigger.

India, the world’s largest population , has been poor for centuries on a per person basis. But its economy has developed an undeniable momentum in the past three decades and is now worth $3.7 trillion. Size like that has its advantages: Even one percentage point of growth is monumental.

“Fastest-growing major economy” has become India’s signature in the past few years. In 2022 India became the fifth-largest economy — stepping over Britain. Even if it continues to grow at a relatively modest pace, it should overtake Germany and Japan to become the third-largest economy around 2030, behind only China and the United States.

The “India growth story,” as local businesspeople call it, is attracting a surge of excitement from investors, especially overseas. Under Mr. Modi, Indians are becoming more hopeful about their country’s economic future. As the economy gets bigger, even smaller rates of growth pile on huge sums of wealth.

Yet many facts of the Indian economy remain stubbornly in place. A large proportion of the work force toils on farms, for instance, and a relatively small part of it is employed in factories. Without better jobs , most Indians will be left waiting to taste this success.

There’s nothing like being in the right place at the right time.

Over the past 10 years, the rest of the world has given Mr. Modi opportunities to turn adversity into India’s advantage. He took office as oil prices were cut in half, a huge boost to the country because it relies heavily on imported crude .

The next few years were bumpier. Shocks caused by Mr. Modi’s boldest moves — an abrupt ban on bank notes and a big tax overhaul — were slow to be absorbed. By 2019 growth was slowing to less than 5 percent. Mr. Modi won re-election that year on the strength of a nationalistic campaign after brief border clashes with Pakistan.

When the Covid-19 pandemic came, it was cruel to India. During the first lockdowns, the economy shrank 23.9 percent. A 2021 wave pulled India’s health-care system into crisis.

India’s economic recovery then coincided with a supercharged enthusiasm by Western countries to tap India as an economic and strategic partner. The pandemic had exposed the world’s deep dependence on China as a supplier and manufacturer. And China’s heightened tensions with the United States, its own border clashes with India, and now its uncertain economic prospects inspired businesses and investors to look to India as a solution.

Build, baby, build: India shows off shiny new projects.

The most visible improvements to India’s economy are in infrastructure. Mr. Modi’s gift for implementation has helped build up capacity exactly where India has missed it most.

The building boom started with transportation: the railways, ports, bridges, roads, airports. India is remaking itself rapidly. Some of the developments are truly eye-catching and are laying the tracks for faster growth. The hope is that local businesses will start investing more where the government has lent its muscle.

Investment in India’s education and public health has been less meaningful. Instead, the government under Mr. Modi has aimed to make concrete improvements for ordinary Indians: bringing electricity to most remote villages, and drinking water and toilets to homes that lacked them.

Beneath the gleam, a digital powerhouse is built.

Less tangible but perhaps more significant has been India’s rapid adoption of what the government calls “digital public infrastructure.” This is a web of software that starts with Aadhaar, a biometric identification system established under Mr. Modi’s predecessor, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. From unique digital identities, it has tied together access to bank accounts, welfare benefits and tax requirements.

This new organization of India’s data, combined with a dense and cost-effective mobile network, has brought efficiencies that grease the gears of commerce. India is proudly exporting the basic framework of its digital architecture to other countries.

Inequality deepens as old problems go unsolved.

Some of the Indian economy’s persistent ailments have been left to fester. Mr. Modi has tried and failed to fix things that plagued previous governments, like industrial policy, the broken agricultural markets and rules for land acquisition. What has become even worse under his government is the country’s vast inequality.

A study published last month by the World Inequality Database in Paris found that while the number of billionaires in India nearly tripled in the past 10 years, the incomes of most Indians were stagnant. The median income is still only $1,265 a year, and 90 percent of the country makes less than $3,900. When so many are left with so little, it is hard to see how domestic consumption will spur faster growth.

The Indian government is quick to reject most such reports; the underlying data is too thin, its economists say. But that’s partly because of the government’s own doing. For all of India’s digital innovation, deciphering what is going on in the country’s economic life has become harder. Under Mr. Modi’s government, fewer official statistics are published and some important data sets, such as those tracking household consumption, have been delayed and redesigned.

What’s more, institutions like think tanks and universities face legal and financial pressure to fall in line behind the government’s messaging.
