While our courses are designed for fiction writers, many writers say by applying the tools and techniques they learned during Unlocking Creativity to their non-fiction, they dramatically improved the quality of their writing. Writing Course Details

Week one:  unlock the power of your imagination.

Discover how to tap into the power of your imagination – the true source of creativity. For many writers, this is an inspiring discovery that makes all the difference to your writing. It will kick start your creative journey wherever you are at as a writer.

Week Two: The art and craft of writing

Explore what is stopping you from reaching your creative potential as a writer and learn how to create emotion in your writing using bricks of significant detail, bringing your characters and writing to life on the page. This is the nuts and bolts of fiction writing.

Week Three:  Character Development and Story Structure

Gain a practical understanding of how to develop characters and take them on an emotional and spiritual journey of change using classic story structure. You will gain a deep understanding of the most powerful way to tell a story that connects and resonates with readers. Your characters will take on a life of their own.

Week Four: Bringing it all together

Write a guided short story applying everything you have learned from the course and witness how far your writing has transformed over the four weeks. The class will demonstrate how storytelling is a profound dance between structure and the imagination and that structure expands your imagination rather than limits it. Everyone leaves the last class on a creative high.

How much time is required daily.

The time required for actual writing per day starts off with as little as 10-15 minutes. When I was in primary school I was really into creative writing. I remember being a part of this club that was called something like Starfish writing (I tried googling it but nothing came up, maybe other 80’s kids can help me out?). Each month I would get a magazine from them filled with creative writing pieces submitted by other students across Australia. I loved reading through these pieces and getting ideas for my own stories. Each edition also included writing prompts that you could write yourself and send to them to be included.

I still remember the day I received a copy in the mail and I opened it up to find one of my pieces published in there. It was tiny – maybe a quarter page, but it was my piece! Something I had created in my mind and put on paper and now kids all over the country were reading it!

I think it was that early love of creative writing that spurred my love for all things creative. Now as a parent, one of my greatest hopes for my children is that they too pursue creativity with just as much passion. If they can create things in their mind, they will never be bored. If they can create, they can solve problems. If they can create they won’t view failures as setbacks, but opportunities to think differently.

Creative Writing is one of the easiest ways for children to exercise the creative muscle. All they need is a pen and paper. A love for creative writing will make them better readers and more engaged at school.

Course Structure

Step 1: assessment.

Prior to joining a class, all new students must complete two mandatory writing assessments. This enables Clever Fox Education to identify each child’s specific strengths and weaknesses in persuasive essay and narrative writing.

Step 2: Detailed and structured lessons with modelled examples

We explicitly teach.

1. Text-type structure (imaginative, informative and persuasive texts) 2. How to plan, write and edit texts in the time allowed (20-30 minutes for scholarship/selective high school, 40 minutes for NAPLAN and 30 minutes for ICAS) 3. How to structure paragraphs using the TEEL/PEEL/PETAL method 4. How to elaborate on points and to back each point up with evidence and examples 5. How to include high-scoring vocabulary from the NAPLAN Markers Guide 6. How to effectively use an array of persuasive devices, literary techniques, adjectives, adverbs, as well as accurate punctuation, grammar and spelling

Step 3: weekly competitions.

Every week, Amber Fox chooses a ‘Student of the Week’ from her array of classes. The winning student’s exemplary work is emailed to all clients so students can learn from, and be inspired, by one another.

Their syntax, vocabulary and use of punctuation are going to be notably more advanced than others of an equivalent age who don’t practice creative writing. Writing also helps to enhance organization from a young age. By plotting out a story line, a child can help to develop organization and make drama or surprises in their story. this will then be applied to everyday tasks, helping them to enhance their own organization and be prepared for the day ahead.

When a child begins to write down their ideas down, completing the story develops a variety of important lifelong skills. Using writing as how for your child to demonstrate their creative side helps their ability to focus, improves their dedication and commitment. These are all skills which employers search for during a candidate. Creative writing also develops creative thoughts, using their imaginations, suggest alternatives, broaden their though process and problem-solving abilities. It also allows the kid to point out their opinions and develop their voice. It also improves their logical skills. By developing these fundamental skills, the kid can apply these in other areas of learning and succeed, helping to strengthen their self-confidence.

Inspiring your child to be creative develops a good range of skills while building confidence. This helps them to become powerful adults, who can communicate their points of view, thoughts, and feelings very clearly. Creative writing has the chance to make a fantastic positive impact while the occasion is becoming more limited within the classroom, taking steps to encourage the young ones to write down can help develop a variety of advantages. By finding their way of writing skills through our courses, the young ones can turn it into a superpower, allowing the kid to be creative while having fun and doing something they enjoy.
