Advanced features of powerpoint 2016.

PowerPoint can be quite intimidating for novice users. PowerPoint beginners often get a bit overwhelmed by the seemingly infinite options that pop out of nowhere in the Ribbon menu. Then there is the worry of messing up a slide deck after you’ve done the hard work. For example, after applying an animation many people might not know how to remove it via the Animations Pane, which is revealed via the Animations tab. This also means that many presenters avoid playing around with their slides to play it safe.

To help beginners get rid of their paranoia and to give some ideas to intermediate and Power Users (pun intended); we have compiled a list of some of the advanced features of PowerPoint 2016. This guide touches upon some of the most underused features of PowerPoint, with special emphasis on some of the latest advanced features that have been introduced in PowerPoint 2016 to supercharge PowerPoint.

Slide Master, Handout Master & Notes Master

In my experience, many people simply don’t know what Master Views are. Even if they have an idea, they might not want anything to do with them to avoid the wrath of the PowerPoint Ribbon menu.

Slide Master: Slide Master is one of the most advanced features of PowerPoint and many of us benefit from it one way or another. This is because this feature is quite important for making PowerPoint templates , which all of us love using without a second thought. After all, why would anyone design their slide deck from scratch!

A Slide Master is a slide which contains information about the whole theme. It is the top slide which contains information about the background, fonts, colors, placeholders, etc.

Every presentation is supposed to have at least one Slide Master, which is why it becomes so hard for some users to modify individual slides with different background designs. This is because changes made to the slide master applies universal changes to every slide in the presentation. You can modify slide master by going to View –> Slide Master , located in the Master Views menu.

Handouts Master: There is also a Handout Master and Notes Master . As the names suggest, these options allow you to enter master view for managing the layouts for your handouts and notes. As you might be aware, you can print handouts in PowerPoint to give a copy of your slides to people in your audience. With the Handout Master option, you can comprehensively edit the layouts for your handouts.

Notes Master: Some presenters like using speaker notes to remind them of key points tied to their slides. Using Notes Master, you can even make more than just text based notes by adding background styles and themes.

PowerPoint 2016 pretty much has the same features for Master Views as its predecessors. The reason we mentioned this feature in this post is because of its importance as an advanced feature.

The next time you want to add branding to multiple slides or configure layouts for your presentation, notes or handouts, you might want to check out Master Views to save yourself the hassle of editing multiple slides, notes and handouts individually.

Animations & Transitions

Animations and Transitions are one of the most underused features of PowerPoint. These can be used for making animated presentations, where you can load slides and slide elements with the help of various effects.

Animations: The Animations tab in PowerPoint contains a number of animations that you can apply to your slides. The easiest way to add one is to select a slide element, go to the Animations tab and select an animation effect from the given menu. This will allow you to load your selected slide object (e.g. text or an image) with an effect such as Zoom, Wipe, Swivel, etc. You can remove these animations anytime via Animations –> Animations Pane .

Not much has changed for Animations in PowerPoint 2016 and like before, you can also add a time for loading your animations, reorder them and set triggers. Something I personally noticed about Animations in PowerPoint 2016 is the smoother loading of added animations. This could be due to under the hood changes which arguably make PowerPoint 2016 run smoother than its predecessor.

Transitions: The difference between animations and transitions is that the latter loads a slide with an effect and the former is used to load slide elements. For example, if I was to add the Curtains transition to a slide, it would load with the curtains effect on-screen to reveal the slide.

Morph: PowerPoint has introduced a revolutionary transition effect called Morph . This transition enables presenters to animate multiple parts of a slide which animate as you switch to the slide. For example, if you have a diagram of the solar system, you can enable all planets to animate automatically as you switch to the slide with that diagram. Morph is revolutionary in the sense that it can enable end users to create complex animations by simply applying the Morph transition. This also means that in coming years we might see the difference between animations and transitions blur in PowerPoint. Please note however that while you can play Morph transitions in PowerPoint 2016, you cannot create them in it. To create them you would need an Office 365 subscription or PowerPoint 2019.

Adding Apps to PowerPoint

You might have installed a PowerPoint add-in but it’s likely that you haven’t yet used apps from the Office Store. PowerPoint, Word & Excel now have a number of handy apps that you can fetch directly from the Office Store. There are two ways of adding these apps.

Method 1: To add an app to PowerPoint 2016, go to Insert –> Add-ins –> Store , select and select app to install.

Method 2: Alternatively, you can add an app to PowerPoint by going to the Office Store via browser, select an app and login with your Microsoft account. Whenever you use this account to log into PowerPoint (2013 or 2016), Office 365 or PowerPoint Online, your app will become available. These apps work pretty much like PowerPoint add-ins, however, most of them require an internet connection to work.

Office Store apps are actually add-ins with the difference that you don’t have to install them on your computer. These apps work with one or more of the following: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, Outlook & SharePoint.

PowerPoint apps at the Office Store usually work with PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2016. However, some apps are also compatible with Office 365 and PowerPoint Online.

PowerPoint Designer

PowerPoint has unveiled an excellent design feature for PowerPoint 2016, known as the PowerPoint Designer. This feature provides automatic design suggestions when you add an image to your slides. The first time you add an image, you are given the option to enable PowerPoint Designer; click ‘Let’s Go’ to initiate this feature. Once enabled, PowerPoint Designer instantly provides a number of ideas for inserting your image to your slide, with a number of professional looking layouts.

The reason this is such a good feature is that it makes use of something that can be deemed as artificial intelligence to give you design ideas that would otherwise require the eye of an expert graphic designer. Unfortunately, PowerPoint Designer only works with default PowerPoint templates and images larger than 200 x 200. The supported image formats include; JPG, PNG, BMP, as well as GIF animations.

For now, you will need an active internet connection and an Office 365 subscription for this feature to work with PowerPoint 2016. It is likely that this might become more readily available in coming days for non-subscribers but for now that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Zoom for PowerPoint

This is another fine feature which comes with PowerPoint 2016. Zoom for PowerPoint enables you to jump between slides, sections and portions of your presentation in a flash. You can create a zoom by going to Insert –> Zoom in PowerPoint 2016. There are three kinds of Zooms that you can create, i.e. Summary Zoom, Slide Zoom and Section Zoom.

Note: Zoom is a new feature that was introduced in July, 2016. It is currently only available for Office 365 subscribers using PowerPoint 2016.

Real-Time Collaboration Options

There are a number of enhanced collaboration features in PowerPoint 2016. You can now instantly collaborate with other users in real-time and even see what section each user is working on by sharing your presentations via OneDrive or SharePoint. Furthermore, you can chat with people using Skype for Business right from within PowerPoint. Moreover, you can track activity of people collaborating on your presentation using the Activity Pane.

You can also add comments to presentations to give your input regarding a presentation or if you’re using PowerPoint for brainstorming or making a project plan; you can get expert help or inter-departmental input.

Note: Many of the above mentioned features require an Office 365 subscription .

Tell Me What To Do

When you start using PowerPoint 2016, you might notice a box title Tell me what you want to do . You can use this option to quickly switch to different features in PowerPoint.

You can use this option by typing what you want to do next. Once you start typing, you will get suggestions regarding features you can switch to.

Screen Recording

PowerPoint has had handy options for taking screenshots, inserting videos and audio for quite some time. However, now you can record screencasts right from within PowerPoint. Just go to Insert –> Screen Recording and you can begin recording parts of your screen for making videos which can even be included in your slides.

Note: You can also get this feature for PowerPoint 2013 if you have installed the latest updates.

Ink Equations

Inserting complex math equations in PowerPoint has become easier with PowerPoint 2016. Now you can include complex mathematical equations via Insert –> Equations –> ink Equations . This feature allows you to use a touch device to write math equations using your finger or a touch stylus. PowerPoint will convert these equations to text automatically. In case you don’t have a touch device, you can also use your mouse to write equations.

Switch Between Colorful, White, Grey & Black Theme

Theme contrast is an essential part of displaying your content. While many people might prefer the default colorful theme, PowerPoint now offers a highest contrast black theme, as well as a grey and white theme that you can use for your presentations.

You can switch your theme from high to low contrast or vice versa by going to File –> Account –> Office Theme .

The default theme is light grey (Colorful Theme), while the Dark Grey theme gives a higher contrast. You can also opt for the highest contrast Black Theme or the plain White Theme.

Black Theme: Here is a look at the highest contrast black theme. This theme can be quite useful for emphasizing your slides, provided your slide content has lighter color tones.

Note: The highest contrast black theme is only available for users with an Office 365 subscription .

Grey Theme: The below image shows the grey theme. This theme is lower in contrast than the Black Theme but higher in contrast than the Colorful and White Theme.

White Theme: Here is a look at the White Theme, which you might be surprised to know is not the default theme.

Colorful Theme: The default theme is the Colorful Theme, which has a somewhat light grey color tone.

Expect More Features With New Updates…

In the list above we have tried to cover some of the latest advanced features in PowerPoint 2016, with a brief look at some of the old advanced features which we thought deserved an honorable mention. With new updates rolling out every few weeks, PowerPoint 2016 is likely to get even more enhanced features in coming days; especially for Office 365 subscribers .

A very useful link – we had noted in the article that many of the features required an Office 365 subscription but I have edited that particular section to make it clearer to our readers and avoid any confusion. Thanks for pointing it out.

Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation program designed for a very wide audience and is therefore as easy to use as possible. Even people who are very rarely aware of the existence of this Microsoft Office component are aware of it and are not familiar with the software.

PowerPoint doesn't have many functions: the program allows you to add unlimited number of slides, transitions, music and simple animations to your presentation. The slides themselves can contain text and graphics, videos, hyperlinks and interactive keys. Generally speaking, in the latest versions of the program there appeared quite a lot of tools for setting up the slide structure in it. The user can select an area for header, footers, footers, etc. There are tools to create charts, simple tables and charts, as well as a small library with sounds and clip-art.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 provides users with an easy-to-use platform to create comprehensive, multimedia presentations.

Switching of presentation slides can be done automatically (according to the set schedule) or manually - by mouse click. The user has a timer, a timeline and a preview function. All of this helps to "put" the presentation to bed" in the allotted time.

When adding graphical elements to a project, Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to "play" with sliders responsible for various color parameters, add frames and make all kinds of changes to the images using the tools from the "Draw" panel. New versions of PowerPoint use their own codecs to play multimedia elements (audio, video), so that no additional software is required. Another benefit added to the program relatively recently is support for cloud-based synchronization of project changes using the OneDrive cloud service.

Those who are not going to create their own presentations, but only want to see the ready-made ones, not necessarily download and install the full version of the program. Just use the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer tool.

- preview of the project directly in the program interface;

- a handy slide show;

- Synchronize project changes with the OneDrive;

- tools for drawing and creating charts/diagrams;

Aidan Thu, Apr 4, 2024 Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 is a Microsoft application for presentation. This software allows users to save their presentation files to the OneDrive cloud. Users can also access all presentation files directly using their OneDrive account. All of the presentation files are in sync with all the devices for users. This software has a lot of newer updates than the older ones. However, Microsoft does not provide all the updates that much. Still, this software is highly compatible with almost all of the users still in today. It does not require that much system resources to function properly. Therefore, older computers can still perform better in this software.

How to make a PowerPoint 2016 presentation available for stand-alone viewing?

What's the best way to make a PowerPoint 2016 presentation available for standalone viewing on Windows workstations? I'm making a PowerPoint 2016 presentation that makes use of the morph transition. This transition is available only in the 2016 version, so downsaving is out. I also need audio & video to be fully encoded within the presentation. Lastly, I need it to run independently on the host system as a PowerPoint 2016 presentation, regardless of what version of PowerPoint the host might have (or not have). In case it matters, the presentation is developed in PowerPoint 2016 from Office 365 for the Mac and will need to be played on WinXP & Win 7 systems with a variety of Office versions from 2010 to 2013 without host-system factors influencing it.

I've tried saving it as a PowerPoint Show, a PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Show, and a PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Presentation. All work properly on my home system, but when I run them on the target WinXP or Win 7 systems, it's getting 'dumbed down' to the version of PowerPoint installed on that system and not displaying correctly.

Any advice what to do here?

Your concern is something interesting. Let us help you with this. Try these steps on how to make a standalone Powerpoint Presentation.

• First open the Presentation that you wish to convert into a standalone program.
• Click Save As and choose "Powerpoint Show (.PPS)' from the dropdown of format selection.
• Then run the file and choose Package for CD, if you would like to set up Autorun.
• When up for final presentation, export the .PPT as .PPS to easily run the slideshow without accessing the toolbars and edit area.

Noreen's suggestion is worth trying, but frankly I doubt it'll work out ... I don't expect that the player will have been updated with the new features you're depending on.

Likewise, new features like Morph/Zoom will not be supported in earlier versions of Powerpoint (or even PPT 2016 versions that don't get automatic updates). 

Your best option is going to be to create a version of the presentation that only uses features that all versions of PPT support. 

That said, it's worth experimenting with saving your PPT as a movie (you'd need to do this from Windows PPT). 

I would guess that the Web version of PowerPoint may get the new features before the player does; it'd be worth experimenting with it as well.

Introduction

Whenever you use the Internet, you use hyperlinks to navigate from one webpage to another. If you want to include a web address or email address in your PowerPoint presentation, you can choose to format it as a hyperlink so a person can easily click it. It's also possible to link to files and other slides within a presentation.

About hyperlinks

Hyperlinks have two basic parts : the address of the webpage, email address, or other location they are linking to, and the display text (which can also be a picture or a shape). For example, the address could be https://www.youtube.com , and YouTube could be the display text. In some cases, the display text might be the same as the address. When you're creating a hyperlink in PowerPoint, you'll be able to choose both the address and the display text or image.

To insert a hyperlink:

• Select the image or text you want to make a hyperlink.

• If you selected text, the words will appear in the Text to display field at the top. You can change this text if you want.
• Type the address you want to link to in the Address field.

To insert a hyperlink to an email address:

• Right-click the selected text or image, then click Hyperlink .
• The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will open.

PowerPoint often recognizes email and web addresses as you type and will format them as hyperlinks automatically after you press the Enter key or spacebar .

To open and test a hyperlink:

• Your web browser should open and then navigate to the linked page. If it doesn't work, check the hyperlink address for any misspellings.

To open a hyperlink while viewing your slide show, click the hyperlink.

To remove a hyperlink:

• Right-click the hyperlink.

More hyperlinks

In PowerPoint, you can use hyperlinks to link to resources that are not online. To create a quick way to refer to another slide in your presentation, you can create a hyperlink to that slide. If you need to access a file stored on your computer, you can create a hyperlink to it. Additionally, PowerPoint allows you to format pictures and shapes as hyperlinks.

Using shapes and pictures as hyperlinks

Sometimes you might want to format objects —including shapes, text boxes, and pictures—as hyperlinks. This is especially helpful if you want the object to act like a button . To do this, right-click the desired object and select Hyperlink from the menu that appears. Click the object during the presentation to open the hyperlink.

To insert a hyperlink to another slide:

• The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear.

Adding a hyperlink to a shape is similar to creating an action button. We'll talk more about how to turn a shape into a button in our Action Buttons lesson.

To insert a hyperlink to another file:

• Right-click the selected text or image, then click Hyperlink . The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear.
• On the left side of the dialog box, click Existing File or Webpage .

If you plan on displaying your presentation on a different computer than you used to create it, your hyperlink to another file may not work. Make sure you have a copy of the linked file on the computer you are using to present, and always test hyperlinks before giving a presentation.

• Open our practice presentation .
• On slide 2, select the Accomplishments shape and create a link to slide 5.
• On slide 11, select the text Tax forms and create a hyperlink to http://irs.gov .
• On slide 12, remove the hyperlink from the text USA.gov Retirement Resources .
• When you're finished, test the hyperlinks you created.

Is internet access required for Microsoft 365?

You don’t need to be connected to the Internet to use Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, because the applications are fully installed on your computer.

However, Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites and all Microsoft 365 subscription plans. For Microsoft 365 plans, Internet access is also needed to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office on other PCs or to change billing options. Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the OneDrive desktop app.

You should also connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Office up to date and benefit from automatic upgrades. If you don’t connect to the Internet at least every 31 days, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Office applications, reconnect to the Internet.

Will I still have control of my documents with Microsoft 365?

Yes. Documents that you have created belong fully to you. You can choose to store them online on OneDrive or locally on your PC or Mac.

If you cancel your subscription or it expires, you can still access and download all your files by signing in to OneDrive directly using the Microsoft account you used to set up Microsoft 365. You do lose the additional storage that comes with your subscription, so you must save your files elsewhere or buy more OneDrive storage if your OneDrive account exceeds the free storage quota.

When would my subscription start?

If you purchase an auto-renew subscription, your subscription starts when you complete your purchase. You can purchase auto-renew subscriptions from Office365.com, MicrosoftStore.com, iTunes®, and some other retailers. If you purchase a pre-paid subscription, your subscription starts when you activate your subscription and land on your My Account page. You can purchase pre-paid subscriptions from a retailer or reseller, or a Microsoft support agent.

How do I share Microsoft 365 with other people?

If you have an active Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you can share it with up to five other people (six total). Prosecutors at hush money trial say Trump led 'porn star payoff' scheme to 'corrupt' 2016 election

Donald Trump "orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election," a prosecutor told jurors Monday during opening statements in the first criminal trial of a former president.

"This case is about a criminal conspiracy and a cover-up,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo told the 12-person jury and six alternates. Trump, he said, conspired to corrupt the 2016 presidential election by scheming with his lawyer Michael Cohen and David Pecker, who was the publisher of the National Enquirer at the time.

“Then, he covered up that criminal conspiracy by lying in his New York business records over and over and over again,” Colangelo said.

Pecker was called as the prosecution's first witness following opening statements from both sides. Trump's lawyer Todd Blanche told the jury his client was not guilty because no crime was committed.

Trump, who had his eyes closed for periods during the morning proceedings, seemed much more engaged when his old ally and friend Pecker was taking the stand. Trump craned his neck when Pecker walked in, almost as if to see whether Pecker would meet his eye. Trump also poked at his attorney Emil Bove and whispered something as Pecker, 72, got situated, and he leaned forward attentively when he began testifying.

Pecker did not get to his relationship with Trump by the time the court day ended. The proceedings ended early because a juror had an emergency dental appointment.

Trump told reporters afterward that the case was "unfair" and launched into an attack against Cohen, who's expected to be called as witness.

"When are they going to look at all the lies that Cohen did in the last trial? He got caught lying in the last trial. Pure lying," Trump said, apparently referring to Cohen's statement in the civil fraud case against Trump that he lied under oath during part of his 2018 guilty plea. "When are they going to look at that?” Trump said.

The comments are likely to come up at a hearing Tuesday morning, when Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office is scheduled to argue that Trump has repeatedly violated a partial gag order barring him from making "public statements about known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding."

Prosecutors have said Cohen and Pecker, the longtime former publisher of the Enquirer, are central figures in the alleged scheme to bury claims from women who said they had had affairs with Trump.

Colangelo told the jurors they will hear about a 2015 meeting at Trump Tower with Trump, Cohen and Pecker. Both Cohen and Pecker had specific roles to play in the scheme, Colangelo said. “Cohen’s job really was to take care of problems for the defendant,” he said. “He was Trump’s fixer.” Pecker, meanwhile, would act as “the eyes and ears” for Trump and would let him and Cohen know about any allegations that could hurt his campaign.

The DA alleges the three conspired to hide “damaging information from the voting public.” That included allegations from a former Playboy model named Karen McDougal who said she had a 10-month sexual relationship with Trump that ended in April 2007. Pecker’s AMI agreed to pay her $150,000 in a deal to essentially buy her silence — a practice that was referred to as “catch and kill.” Trump has denied McDougal's claims.

The situation took on a greater sense of urgency for Trump in October 2016. That's when The Washington Post published the " Access Hollywood " tape, which caught Trump on a hot mic saying he could grope women without their consent because "when you're a star, they let you do it."

Judge Juan Merchan barred the DA from playing the tape for the jury for fear it would be too prejudicial, but he did allow prosecutors to use a transcript of Trump's remarks.

Colangelo said the impact of the tape was “immediate and explosive.”

“The defendant and his campaign were concerned that it would irrevocably damage him with female voters,” he said, and "the campaign went into immediate damage control mode."

It was around that time that the Enquirer heard that adult film actress Stormy Daniels was interested in coming forward with a claim that she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006. Trump was "adamant" he didn't want that claim, which he denies, to become public for fear it would be "devastating" to his campaign, Colangelo said.

Cohen then struck a deal to buy Daniels' silence for $130,000, Colangelo said.

"It was election fraud, pure and simple," Colangelo said, adding “We’ll never know, and it doesn’t matter, if this conspiracy was a difference maker in the close election.”

Colangelo said the Trump Organization, Trump’s company, couldn’t cut Cohen a check with the memo “reimbursement for porn star payoff” so "they agreed to cook the books" and make it look like the reimbursement was income.

"The defendant said in his business records that he was paying Cohen for legal services pursuant to a retainer agreement. But, those were lies. There was no retainer agreement," Colangelo said.

“It was instead what they thought was a clever way to pay Cohen back without being too obvious about it,” he said. But what they did was a crime, Colangelo said. “Donald Trump is guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree,” he concluded.

Trump's attorney Blanche countered in his opening statement that his client hasn’t committed any crimes. “The story you just heard, you will learn, is not true,” he said. "President Trump is innocent. President Trump did not commit any crimes."

He said the only thing Trump did was sign checks for legal services rendered by his lawyer.

“The invoice is processed, somebody at Trump Tower generated a check, the check was ultimately signed, and there was a record in the ledger,” Blanche said. “He’s the only signatory on his personal checking account, which is why he signed the check.

"So what on Earth is a crime? What’s a crime, of what I just described?” Blanche said. "None of this is a crime," he said, adding that nondisclosure agreements like the one Daniels signed are legal.

As for the election interference argument, Blanche said, “I have a spoiler alert: There’s nothing wrong with trying to influence an election. It’s called democracy.”

In a preview of his trial strategy, Blanche also attacked Daniels' and Cohen's character and credibility. He accused Daniels, whom he described as "extremely biased," of trying to "extort" Trump, a word that the judge ordered stricken from the record. Blanche then said what Daniels had been threatening to do by going public with her allegation was "sinister" and "damaging to [Trump] and damaging to his family.”

Blanche also said Daniels' testimony, while salacious, doesn't matter because she doesn't know anything about how Cohen was repaid.

The bulk of Blanche's attacks were reserved for Cohen, who pleaded guilty in 2018 to numerous crimes, including some that he said he carried out on Trump's behalf.

“Michael Cohen was obsessed with President Trump. He’s obsessed with President Trump, even to this day,” Blanche said, calling him a "convicted felon" and a "convicted liar."

“He has talked extensively about his desire to see President Trump go to prison,” Blanche said, including in public on Sunday.

He told the jurors that if they listen to the evidence, they'll return "a very swift not guilty verdict."

Cohen said in a statement afterward, “The facts will come out at the time of trial that contradicts Todd Blanche’s mischaracterizations of me.”

Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to the hush money payment to Daniels. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty , could face up to four years in prison if he is convicted.

On his way into the courtroom Monday morning, he told reporters: “It’s a very, very sad day in America. I can tell you that.”

The day got off to a rough start for Trump, with Merchan, the judge, ruling that if he winds up taking the stand in his own defense, prosecutors can cross-examine him about another New York judge's finding that he and his business committed "persistent" fraud and violated a gag order, juries' finding him civilly responsible for sexual abuse and defamation in the E. Jean Carroll cases and a settlement in a case that found he used his now- shuttered foundation to improperly further his campaign in the 2016 election. Trump's attorneys had argued that all of those topics should be out of bounds.

Trump didn't show concern — he sat with his eyes closed through much of Merchan's ruling. He briefly opened his eyes when the jury was brought in for the judge's instructions and then closed them again.

Bragg was sitting in the front row of the courtroom ahead of opening statements.

Cohen, Daniels and McDougal are also expected to testify during the trial, which is estimated to take six weeks.

The jury consists of seven men and five women. The final day of jury selection, Friday, was particularly intense , as some potential jurors broke down in tears and said they were too anxious to be seated. They were excused. A man also set himself on fire outside the courthouse.

Trial proceedings Tuesday will be abbreviated, ending at 2 p.m. ET because of the Passover holiday.

When you turn on voice access for the first time, Windows will ask you to download a speech model. You might not find a speech model that matches your display language. You can still use voice access in English (US). You can always choose a different language from Settings > Language on the voice access bar.

New! You can now use all voice access features on multiple displays. These include number and grid overlays that, in the past, you could only use on the primary display. While you are using the grid overlay on a screen, you can quickly switch to another display. To do that, use the alphabet or NATO phonetic in your command. For example, “B” or “Bravo” are both valid for the display that is assigned that letter.

New! This update introducesvoice shortcuts or custom commands. You can use them to create your own commands in the supported English dialects. To start, say “what can I say” and click the “Voice shortcuts” tab on the left panel. You can also use the command “show voice shortcuts” to open the Voice shortcuts page. Click Create new shortcut . Use your voice or other input to create a command. Give it a name and select one or more actions. After you fill in the necessary information, click Create . Your command is now ready to use. To view all the voice shortcuts you have created, go to the command help page or use the voice command, “show voice shortcuts.”

New! You can now listen to a preview of the ten natural voices before you download them. See the Narrator section of the September 2023 update for the list. These voices use modern , on-device text-to-speech. Once you download them, they work without an internet connection. However, to listen to a preview, you need an internet connection. To add and use one of the natural voices, follow the steps below.

To open Narrator settings, press the WIN+CTRL+N hotkey.

Under Narrator’s voice, select Add , which is next to Add natural voices .

Select the voice you want to install. You can install all voices, but you must install them one at a time.

The preview will play automatically as you browse the list.

If you like the preview, click Download and Install . The new voice downloads and is ready for use in a few minutes, depending on your internet download speed.

In Narrator settings, select your preferred voice from the menu in Narrator’s voice > Choose a voice .

New! This update adds a new keyboard command to move between the images on a screen. Now, you can use the keys G or Shift+G to move forward or backward between images in Scan mode (Narrator key+space bar).

New! This update improves Narrator’s detection of text in images, which includes handwriting. It also improves the descriptions of images. To use this feature, you must have an active internet connection. You must also turn on the setting to get image descriptions in Narrator settings. To try this experience, select an image and press the Narrator key+CTRL+D.

New! In Microsoft Word, Narrator will announce the presence of bookmarks and draft or resolved comments. It also tells you if accessibility suggestions exist when it reads text in the file.

New! You can now use voice access to open applications, dictate text, and interact with elements on the screen. You can also use your voice to command Narrator. For example, you can tell it to, “speak faster,” “read next line,” and so on. To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows search and set it up.

Windows share

New! This update changes the apps that appear in the Windows share window. The account you use to sign in affects the apps that are in “Share using.” For example, if you use a Microsoft account (MSA) to sign in, you will see Microsoft Teams (free). When you use a Microsoft Entra ID account (formerly Azure Active Directory) to sign in, your Microsoft Teams (work or school) contacts show instead.

New! The Windows share window now supports sharing with WhatsApp in the “Share using” section. If you do not have WhatsApp installed, you can install it from the Windows share window.

Nearby Share

New! This update affects how Nearby Share turns on and off. You can use quick settings or the Settings app to turn on Nearby Share. If you do and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will turn on to make Nearby Share work as you expect. If you turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, Nearby Share turns off as well.

New! This update improves Nearby Share transfer speed for users on the same network. Before, users had to be on the same private network. Now, users must be on the same public or private network. You can use quick settings to turn on Nearby Share. Right-click a local file in File Explorer and choose “Share.” Then choose to share to a device listed in Nearby Share in the Windows share window.

New! You can now give your device a more friendly name to identify it when sharing. Go to Settings > System > Nearby sharing . There, you can rename your device.

New! This update helps you to learn about the Cast feature and discover when it is available; see the examples in the list below. To cast means to send content that is on your device’s screen to a nearby PC, TV, or other external displays. This happens wirelessly.

You might often switch between windows to complete a task or use Snap Assist to organize your screen space. When you multitask like this, a notification will suggest that you use Cast.

The Cast flyout menu in quick settings gives you more help to find nearby displays, fix connections, and more.

Snap Layouts

New! This update adds suggestions to   Snap Layouts .  They help you to instantly snap multiple app windows together.

New! You can hover over the minimize or maximize button of an app (WIN+Z) to open the layout box. When you do, app icons will display various layout options. Use them to help you to choose the best layout option.

Windows 365 Boot

New! This update adds dedicated mode for Windows 365 Boot . When you sign in on your company-owned device, doing that also signs you in to your Windows 365 Cloud PC. This occurs using passwordless authentication, like Windows Hello for Business.

New! This new dedicated mode also provides the fast account switcher experience. With it, you can quickly switch profiles and sign in. You can also personalize the experience for your username and password. This includes choosing a custom display picture for the lock screen, storing your username, and more.

New! A company can customize what users see on the screen when they sign in to Windows 365 Boot. In shared mode, you can add company branding from Microsoft Intune.

New! This update adds a fail fast mechanism for Windows 365 Boot. It helps while you are signing in to your Cloud PC. Thesmart logic tells you to address network issues or complete app setup so that Windows 365 Boot does not fail.

New! You can now manage the settings of your physical (local) PC from your Cloud PC. Windows 365 Boot makes it easy to directly access and manage sound, display, and other device settings.

Windows 365 Switch

New! It is now easier for Windows 365 Switch to disconnect. You can use your local PC to disconnect from your Cloud PC. Go to Local PC > Task view . Right-click the Cloud PC button and select Disconnect . This update also adds tooltips to the Cloud PC Start menu. They appear on the options for disconnecting and signing out and help you to learn how each one works.

New! This update adds desktop indicators for Windows 365 Switch.You will see the term “Cloud PC” and “Local PC” on the desktop indicator when you switch between them.

New! The time to connect to Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PC from Windows 365 Switch might be long. While you wait, the screen will show you the connection status and the timeout indicator for the Cloud PC. If there is an error, use the new copy button on the error screen to copy the correlation ID. This helps to address the issue faster.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22621.3447 and 22631.3447

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates  and  Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions . 

Install this update

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages .

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer ( wusa.exe ) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.
