Speech on Respect for Students and Children

Speech on respect.

The word ‘respect’ is a broad term and has a huge meaning in itself. However, different people understand this term in different ways. Respect is a feeling that fills positivity in a human being or an action that we express towards something. Moreover, we can also get it as something held in high esteem or favour for someone. Respecting someone is an indication of ethical behaviour. Unfortunately, in modern times, people are forgetting and fading the value of respect. Notably, there are 2 important aspects of respect that are self-respect and the respect that we give to other people. Read speech on respect here.

Self-Respect

The word self-respect also has a wide and deep meaning. Self-respect basically means to love our self and to behave with honour and dignity at the same time. Self-respect reflects respect for our own self. An individual who has self-respect will always treat himself/herself with honour and will always value himself/herself.

Furthermore, lacking our own respect for us is a matter of dishonour for us. A person who does not respect or values himself/herself should never expect respect from other people. The reason behind this logic is that no one likes to treat an individual like this with respect.

Lack of self-respect brings negative concerns and attitude for the person. A person who lacks self-respect is the one who does not get respect from any other person. In addition, such an individual has a higher chance of indulging in bad activities. Also, the person who lacks self-respect suffers through a major lack of self-confidence in himself\herself.

Self-respect is a reflection of maturity and confidence that makes us feel great and makes us believe that we are not less than anyone. Self-respect makes a person more responsible and sincere towards his/her duties and responsibilities.

Furthermore, the person with self-respect is always stronger than a person that has no self-respect. A person with self-esteem always stands for his/her rights, values, opinions, and many other important things in his/her life.

Self-respect improves the morality and ethics of a person and makes him/her valuable and important for many people. Such people have a quite good and decent nature. Above all, self-respect makes you a much better person than a person with no self/respect.

Respect of Others

Each of us should respect all human beings. Respecting someone is an essential need of living and surviving in a society today. We usually give a basic level of respect for other people. Furthermore, we should respect the people in a proper way who impact our lives.

People who usually impact our lives are parents, relatives, teachers, friends, colleagues, etc. One of the finest ways of respecting someone is listening to them carefully and valuing their opinions.

Listening to another person’s thoughts, way of thinking, point of views, etc. is an excellent way of respecting them. Notably, we must permit a person to present his/her views and opinions even if we disagree with them.

Another essential aspect of giving respect to others is religious or political views. Religious and cultural beliefs of all peoples should be given a lot of consideration and importance.

Moreover, respecting other people’s religions is a sign of showing mature respect towards them. Everyone should respect the people who have authority. Almost each of us deals with people in our lives that hold authority.

So overall, respect is not just something that makes us feel good and positive but it is an important element of life in the present time. Respecting someone can never be something negative. Moreover, it maintains a good relationship and understanding between two persons. Everyone deserves respect and should also respect other people in this world.

Speech on Respect - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

  • Speech on Respect

Respect is a crucial attribute that conveys a strong appreciation for something or someone. It is also known as esteem, which is a kind of admiration or great regard for something or someone expressed toward that person. It is essential for a person to respect oneself first. If we respect ourselves and our decisions, people will respect us.

10 Lines Speech on Respect

Short speech on respect, long speech on respect.

Speech on Respect - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

All people need to be respected. Respecting someone implies considering their preferences, feelings, views, and ideas.

Every person in our country deserves respect, regardless of their differences.

We should cherish our siblings and friends and show respect to our parents, teachers, and other senior citizens.

You must first respect yourself if you expect respect from others.

The ability to value your individuality and traits comes first from having self-respect.

Our parents and elders have taught us to respect others since childhood.

Respect for the laws and rules of our country is also crucial.

People in our country come from various religious, cultural, and moral backgrounds. However, we should respect everyone regardless of all the facts.

Respect is crucial for effective teamwork and consideration for others.

Respect is earned through an individual's traits, skills, and accomplishments.

“Respect is a two-way street; if you want to get it, you’ve got to give it.” -R.G. Risch . In daily life, we use the term "respect" frequently. But what does it mean? It denotes a respect for someone's worth or quality.

First and foremost, self-respect is vital. You won't be able to earn the respect of others if you don't respect yourself. Each of us has certain qualities that we should treasure. It boosts our value to both ourselves and other people.

Second, we ought to respect our seniors at all times. Our teachers and parents deserve our respect. We appreciate them because of their age, experience, and contribution to our way of life and society. It is very important for all of us to respect the choices and thoughts of others. Something which may not be right in our eyes may be correct according to someone else. If we respect others' choices and decisions, ours will be appreciated too.

Third, we must uphold the laws that govern our nation. Respect for our national flag, national anthem, government, and other aspects of our country is crucial. Finally, I want to add that if we all work together with mutual love and respect, our nation will have a lot of opportunities.

Respect, also called appreciation, is a positive feeling or action shown toward a person or thing that is considered important, highly valued, or respected. Different cultures have different ways of expressing respect. In our nation, India, when we greet one another, we say Namaste while bowing or touching feet to demonstrate respect.

Because of the significance and value it carries, everyone in the world has adopted this ancient cultural tradition. All people, regardless of their age, class, profession, race, or gender, are deserving of respect. Namaste also conveys the same meaning, which is that we are equals and that I respect you by bending down. We can communicate in schools and colleges as well.

Self-Respect

Self-respect is a type of self-love in which an individual values his or her own particular and distinctive path of living life. Accepting one's Real Self's natural character traits and, more importantly, acting on those traits when making decisions about one's own life are what it necessarily involves. Self-respect is crucial because it is the gift we give ourselves when we stop trying to please others in order to win their approval and start acting authentically and with integrity no matter what anyone else thinks.

Why is respecting others important?

For instance, it works the same way as if I wanted to give someone money; I would need to have cash on hand before I could do so. Respect is not different. Only if I already have it inside of me for myself then only I can give it to someone else.

It goes beyond simple manners or etiquette. It's something that's fundamental to being human and required for any type of healthy relationship, whether it be with your family, other people, or even yourself. Additionally, when everyone in the community respects one another, it makes it simpler for people to trust and depend on one another when they need help.

A recent incident occurred while I was hospitalized due to a minor accident. It was a big private hospital, and the medical staff appeared to be very busy. The elderly patient next to my bed appeared scared and uneasy with her surroundings. She seemed to be from a rural area and not very educated. .

She was troubling the nurses with inquiries, but they appeared to be doing their best to ignore her as they went about their work. After a short while, a doctor came over and spoke with me about my situation before going over to the elderly woman to inquire about how her patient was feeling. She was the only member of the staff to respect her and use the proper greeting when addressing her. She didn't appear to mind that the patient wasn't particularly wealthy or from a respectable background, but she still displayed courtesy by answering the questions in a low voice.

The older patient smiled at her because of her modest smile, and she was now more at ease. It helped me realize that it doesn't matter how highly educated or how high up on the higher positions you are. All that is required to demonstrate your character to others is the respect and kindness you show them.

Long Speech On Respect 500 Words In English

Good Morning Everyone.

Today I want to speak about the topic ‘Respect.’ The word ‘Respect’ is a term that has a broader meaning to it. Respect is a feeling that fills positivity in action or expression of a human being towards something. Respecting someone is a reflection of your ethical behavior. But, in modern times, unfortunately, people forget the values of respect. There are two aspects of respect, one is self-respect, and another one is the respect you give to people.

The meaning behind self-respect is profound. To love our self with honor and dignity is what we call as self-respect. With the help of self-respect, you respect your self. If you have self-respect, you will surely treat yourself with honor.

If you don’t give self-respect to yourself, you should not even expect respect from others. No one likes to respect an individual who doesn’t have self-respect.

If you don’t have self-respect, you might experience negative concerns for yourself. In those cases, the person has a higher chance of involving in wrong activities. That person also lacks self-confidence.

If you are mature and confident and feel great about yourself and believe that you are no less than anyone, you have self-respect. You will be more responsible and sincere towards your duties and responsibilities if you have self-respect.

You will feel much more reliable if you have self-respect compared to the person who doesn’t have self-respect. You will always stand for your rights, values, opinions, and many essential things in your life, if you have self-esteem.

If you have self-respect, you can improve your morality and ethical values, and also can make yourself valuable for others. Self-respect, overall, makes you a much better person.

Then comes the respect which we show for others. Respecting every human being is essential. For living and surviving in society, maintaining respect towards each other is essential. We usually give a basic level of respect towards everybody. The ones who are connected to our life, we give them respect properly.

Our parents, relatives, teachers, friends, colleagues, etc., these people generally influence our lives. By listening to someone properly and valuing their opinions, is the way we can give them respect. Giving somebody an equal chance to present his/her views is what we call giving respect.

Irrespective of different views on religion, political views, or cultural views, if we still give our consideration and understand the importance, this is another aspect of giving respect. Respecting other people’s religion is a sign of mature respect towards them. I am sure; everyone has some people in their life who hold the authority. We should always show respect towards that person.

So, lastly, respect is something which makes you feel good and positive, and it is a crucial element of everybody’s life. Respecting someone is always positive. For maintaining a good relationship and understanding between two people, we should maintain respect for each other. Everyone deserves respect, and in return, they should also respect others.

A World Without Racism is Respectful

Respect in the classroom.

Respect is an important part of the learning experience in the classroom. In a classroom full of students from diverse backgrounds, it is crucial that students learn to respect each other and their teachers. Mutual respect improves the educational experience for both students and teachers. According to an academic study authored by Shannon Audley-Piotrowski, Yeh Hsueh, and Robert Cohen, respect is a crucial component of successful classrooms. Respect fosters student growth and helps contribute to active learning, which is an important part of any student’s learning cycle. In the study it was noticed that active learning is not a particular method, but a shared attitude between teachers and students. Having that shared attitude of respect in the classroom ensures students take their education into their own hands and become active students rather than passive listeners. That mutual shared respect allows for a better overall quality in education, which can positively impact students in both the short term and the long term.

Respect in the classroom requires teachers letting students know that they care about them. There are many ways teachers respecting students can lead to a positive outcome. One way is by rewarding students who treat other students with respect by praising them and providing collaborative learning opportunities such as group projects that build relationships and respect. These group projects allow students to increase collaborative skills which are a necessity in today’s environment as well as increasing the respect between collaborators.  Collaborative projects have shown to increase respect between students as well as the relationship between students and teachers. The responsibility doesn’t just fall on the teacher; it has to be with both the teacher and the students. For teachers, actions such as calling students by their preferred name, being punctual and maintaining a schedule are easy ways to build respect with your students. On the students’ side of things, it is important to address other students politely and be sensitive to their feelings. Mutual respect in the classroom has been scientifically proven to improve the experience of students and teachers in the classroom.

In the end, you should be respectful in the classroom. By being more respectful, you will see a positive outcome not only with the learning that is involved, but also with how you interact with your classmates as well as your students from a teacher perspective. These are all building blocks in making a more respectful world that will allow us to end racism once and for all.

What other ways do you spread the respect philosophy? Please click here to share your ideas, we’d all love to learn more ways to be respectful! Take care and stay connected.

Respect in class: How to earn Students and Teachers’ Respect

  • by Lesley Loken
  • October 12, 2022 October 12, 2022

Respect

Respect is a vital part of the learning environment in the classroom. Respect is a feeling of concern for the well-being of another person, which can be exhibited by courteous behavior and kindness.

It is defined as a genuine admiration for someone, or something based on their traits, abilities, or accomplishments. Simply put, respect is the regard we have for other people, and it shows in our answers to them and our intentions and thoughts for them.

What constitutes Respect in Class

What is two-way respect?  In the classroom, mutual respect extends beyond the interactions between students and the teacher. In a climate of two-way respect, students are expected to treat one another with respect.

speech on respect for class 1

As a result, more learning occurs in the classroom because children feel comfortable, motivated, and, of course, respected. It constitutes an appropriate teacher-student relationship that is based on respect.

It takes a lot of effort from both the teacher and the students to create this culture. The good news is that students will usually want to keep a positive classroom atmosphere after establishing the culture.

What does Respect in the Classroom Look Like?

While respect standards vary depending on the individual and environment, five simple classroom behaviors can help to define respect in the classroom. These include:

1. Adherence to the rules

One of the most fundamental and crucial habits for fostering respect in the classroom is adhering to the rules.

Respect

When students follow the rules, it exhibits a high level of discipline and admiration for the class and its occupants.

It also reinforces behaviors and mannerisms that promote high levels of respect and will benefit learners as they continue through their education.

Almost every student will struggle to follow the rules occasionally.

However, persistent rule-breaking can reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of classroom respect and necessitate educator involvement.

2. Paying attention when peers or teachers speak

Respect in the classroom is demonstrated by listening quietly and attentively to someone speaking.

Whether a teacher is delivering a lesson, a student is sharing a report or project, or a classroom visitor such as administrators or special guests is speaking, refraining from excessive chatter, movement, or other distractions creates a respectful environment that is conducive to growth and learning.

3. Demonstrating consideration for others and kindness

For a reason, treating others as you would like to be treated is the gold standard of respect. Learners must be taught to be polite and considerate to their classmates, teachers, and administrators to cultivate classroom respect.

Maintaining high standards for classroom compassion is also essential for creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all learners.

With more than half of middle and high school goers reporting feeling unsafe at school, compassion and consideration are more vital than ever in ensuring fair and accessible access to learning opportunities.

4. Patience and self-control

Controlling disruptive tendencies that detract from the learning experience is another hallmark of a respectful classroom.

For instance, in a low-respect classroom, numerous learners may speak without raising their hands during class debates or refuse to wait their turn during school activities or leisure.

Both actions show a lack of self-control and patience, which are essential characteristics for success inside and beyond the classroom.

These behaviors are also linked to rule-following, so a youngster who has trouble adhering to established classroom norms is more likely to have challenges managing distracting or disruptive impulses during class and recess.

5. A promise to be honest

Simply told, respect necessitates honesty. Trust is the foundation of positive student-teacher interactions, and honesty is the foundation of trust.

Educators must demonstrate a personal commitment to honesty and fairness to encourage honesty in the classroom.

They should show their students the benefits of honesty regularly to promote its relevance, even when a student is confessing to something upsetting.

6. Communicate respectfully

Use kind words when talking to your students or teachers. For students, learn how to address your teacher respectfully using the right words.

How Students show Respect in the Classroom

There are simple ways students can show respect in the classroom, including:

1. Listen and be present

Respect

Give someone else the courtesy of listening to and considering what they have said before responding, establishing their own opinions, or discarding theirs.

It is acceptable and sometimes necessary for a student to disagree with what is being said.

Yet, they should wait their turn, pay attention, and avoid leaping to conclusions.

2. Be considerate to others’ feelings

Students should note that nobody likes to be embarrassed. So they should learn to be considerate of others’ feelings and opinions.

They should do everything they can to prevent others from feeling the same way. The teacher can also help a student who may feel enraged, upset, or embarrassed if someone rolled their eyes at one of her ideas or spoke over her when she was trying to speak.

3. Addressing mistakes with kindness

Everyone makes mistakes. The instructor and other students should avoid humiliating someone who makes a blunder.

The teacher can take the student aside, gently inform her of her error, and then assist and guide her to improve. We are all human, and we will all require assistance at some point.

It is just the right thing to do to assist others in learning from their mistakes in a dignified manner.

4. Respect for physical boundaries

Everybody has the right to choose how much and what kind of physical touch they want. A student should learn to respect others’ preferences, and how they should insist on others respecting their boundaries.

5. Saying thank you and acknowledging others

It only takes a few seconds to let others know that their efforts are appreciated and to thank them for their time, effort, or thoughtfulness, but it makes a difference.

6. Wear Decently

There is a line that says, the way you dress informs how people will address you. That is the way it goes with respect. If you are an instructor, wear decently as a teacher . The same is true for students.

How to Earn Respect in Class from Others

In school, in class, and later in life, it is essential to know how to earn the respect of your peers. Being respected comes in handy in diverse situations ranging from group projects to dealing with wildfire rumors. To Earn Respect from others:

1. Be confident

Confidence is vital if you want to earn the respect of your peers. Students seldom respect a meek, shy peer in the back of the class.

Respect in Class

While there is nothing wrong with having a shy personality, you should aim to be confident if you demand respect.

You have to project confidence when you ask and answer questions in class or when you assert your opinions.

This will show peers that you mean business. That said, confidence should not be confused with arrogance, which will not help you earn respect.

2. Be well-informed

It is difficult to respect ignorant people. To earn respect, you have got to “know your stuff” and prove that you are well-informed.

Your peer will step back and reevaluate you when you can support your opinions with facts and examples from current or historical events. Once they can form a clearer picture of you, they are bound to respect you!

3. Honor your promises

When you give your word, people expect you to keep it. But, as the demand for good character and nobility lessens in modern society, so does the tendency for people to honor their promises.

Yet, students who have respect in class and school are expected to keep their promises. So, to gain the respect of your peers, you must first learn to honor your commitments.

4. Be tolerant

Tolerance is increasingly critical in our society, where different cultures mix and mash together everywhere! Respectable people must be tolerant of others, especially in school. No one will want to respect you unless you are also tolerant of others.

5. Follow the golden rule

If you desire to earn the respect of your peers, you must follow the rule – treat others the way you want to be treated. When you treat others with the dignity and courtesy they deserve, they will most likely return it to you.

Speech on Kindness For Students and Children

Kindness is a virtue that many people lack but expect from others. Kindness is highly valued in all areas of life, no matter how old you are, whether you are 5 or 60 years old. This is an act of selflessness or a good deed. Kindness Talks For Children can be presented in several ways. Schools give long lectures about kindness to students and children and short lectures about kindness to students.

Promoting kindness strengthens relationships between peers and students and teachers. Taking time to cultivate kindness intentionally develops empathy and understanding between individuals, leading to deeper relationships. As relationships develop, trust develops, allowing a teaching culture to develop in which each individual feels genuine gratitude for who he or she is and what he or she contributes as an individual. While there is no denying that teachers have different needs, it is precisely what allows us to succeed in other fields by devoting sufficient time to nurturing the culture in the classroom with kindness in teaching.

Overview of the Topic

Kindness is a virtue that many do not possess, but they expect it from others. Kindness is valued in all aspects of life no matter how old one is, whether you are 5 or 60 years old. It is an act or a good deed done selflessly. The speech on Kindness For Children can be presented in various ways. Here we present a Long Speech On Kindness For Students And Children and a Short Speech On Kindness For Students for your perusal.

Long and Short Speech on Kindness For Students and Children

Long speech on kindness for children.

This format of Speech on Kindness For Students And Children is helpful for students in grades 8-12 to make a 5 minutes speech.

Good Morning everyone, I warmly welcome the Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. I am ABC (mention your name) from grade (mention the class in which you are studying) here to speak on the topic of Kindness. Kindness is a quality one possesses and acts on it by exhibiting behaviors of friendliness, generosity, and being considered. It is a benevolent attitude that one possesses.

Kindness is actually inherent to human beings and we are inculcated with and reminded of it since our childhood. Kindness can be developed through empathy. Empathy is what one feels when they put themselves in others' shoes and kindness is how they express that by helping them and making their lives a little bit easier and better.

Every living being is deserving of kindness. One only needs to have good intentions to be kind, nothing else. When one has good intentions, they are attentive to others; they lend a helping hand, lend a good ear and listen to others' problems, and help someone in need. When you show respect to your elders, it is also an act of kindness.

One should always be kind even to strangers, help them cross the road, carry their bags, even if you disagree with their opinions, make your point with compassion, be considerate of others' problems because everyone is dealing with something or other and your act of kindness can actually help them feel better about themselves. Do not be judgemental about anyone and give people a chance.

You can also be kind to your friends and siblings by helping and supporting them in every way. Sharing is the best form of kindness, sharing things or feelings and problems. Listening to others, your parents, and teachers and understanding their perspectives is also a kind act.

A kind act is not just limited to human beings. One must display kindness to animals as well. My friends are the kindest people I know. Just last week, when we were boarding the bus after school to go home, my friend saw a wounded puppy and instead of ignoring it, he tended to his wounds and took him home. Now they have a new family member named Guppy. He found a new home because one act of kindness isn't that wonderful.

Kindness is not a cowardly act; it is for the brave and the bold. Standing up for the right and helping those in need shows our truth. Kindness truly is a selfless act when one helps others without expecting anything in return. When you are kind, you lead a peaceful, happy life and you sleep better at night.

A kind act is truly magical when you are kind to someone, they forget all about their problems and even a bad day becomes a good one. Kindness has the power to change the world. The world would be a more beautiful place if we were a little kinder to each other. Let's all be kind to one another. Every day, consciously do one act of kindness. Ask yourself, "Was I kind today?"

Short Speech on Kindness For Students

This form of Speech On Kindness For Students And Children is helpful for students in grades 4-7, where they can give a short 3-minute speech in simple words .

Good morning everyone, respect the Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. I Abc (mention your name) feel grateful for the opportunity to speak about kindness. Kindness is the supreme way to show someone you care about them or your respect and love for them. Kind people are considerate, generous, friendly, affectionate, and warm.

Often kindness is perceived as naivety or weakness because it has a very gentle approach, but it is not. The prime example of kindness is Mother Teresa, who selflessly dedicated her entire life to serving sick children in a foreign country she had never been to and nothing about. She exuded kindness and that is strength in true terms.

We, too, can act upon this value by showing empathy and compassion for everyone in our lives. We can show small acts of kindness every day that will have a large impact like listening to our parents, teachers, and elders, treating everyone with equality, taking the time to actually sit and listen to a friend's problems, and instead of judging by showing them the way to be. It is also important to know that every being is deserving of kindness and compassion, be it animals or humans.

It is in kindness and the doing of it that will change you in unpredictable ways; it will enrich your life more than the ones you show kindness to and have compassion for.

Let's change the world one kind of action at a time. People often say others remember you not through gifts or money but how you made them feel. And kindness can make everyone feel better, special, and important. Isn't that a great way to be remembered by making people feel good just by being kind?

10 Line Speech on Kindness For Children

This is the easiest way to convey the message of kindness and share its importance to students in grades 1-3 :

Kindness is the act of showing love and respect for others and treating them as equals like one of us.

Kindness is more enriching for the one doing it than the one you do it for.

When one is truly kind, they do not expect anything in return from you.

It is an act of selflessness and the prime example of this is Mother Teresa. She selflessly showed the world the power of kindness.

Mother Teresa showed the world that kindness could truly heal people.

Kindness means helping someone, lending an ear, being there in times of a crisis, and standing in solidarity.

Kindness is often misunderstood to be poor quality when in reality, it has the power to change the world.

Kindness can help solve misunderstandings and form better, healthier relationships.

Kindness and compassion are the recurring things spoken about in every religion as a way to connect to others.

Kindness truly can change the world and make it a better place to live and leave for our children.

FAQs on Speech on Kindness

1. Why should children learn kindness in school?

When children take part in activities that help others who are less fortunate than them, it gives them a real perspective and underscores their luck. Generosity helps them appreciate what they have, feel useful, and encourages empathy. Kindness is a key substance that increases positivity and helps children feel good because it increases serotonin levels. This important substance affects learning, memory, mood, sleep, health and digestion. Positive children have more attention, a greater desire to learn and better creative thinking to improve school performance.

2. How to give a good speech?

While it is relatively easy to write an essay, giving a speech is a completely different matter. Relevant persuasive topics can help inform and persuade your target audience. To do this, you need to do thorough research and share valuable points to make a difference. When talking about a persuasive speech, it is important to remember that it must inform, educate, persuade or motivate the audience. In other words, you will influence them to accept your position.

The best persuasive topics are always stimulating, bold and very sharp and clear. Always remember to choose an interesting and interesting topic. It helps to hold the attention of students or readers from start to finish. Also, make sure you have the correct knowledge of the material to help answer any questions.

3. Why should students be encouraged to speak in Public?

Learning good communication takes time and effort, so high school students should take the opportunity to speak in public. Students can find many useful tips for speaking in class. In addition, by speaking in class, high school students can develop basic interpersonal skills or "soft skills". Young people need these skills when they reach adulthood, especially in the workplace. Employers increasingly expect their employees to be quality communicators; in other words, all professionals should practice active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving and time management. While speaking in class may seem like a relatively small task, it develops students' soft skills, especially active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving and time management.

4. What is the best source for English speeches for children?

There are several sources online that provide materials for the Speech on Kindness in English. Since speech giving is one of the most important aspects of examinations and students' overall growth, the materials we follow must be 100 percent accurate. Any wrong information can lead the students to fail in the examination with a really low score. Vedantu is one of the most reliable sources to prepare a speech on kindness in English. Students can also practice other topics available on the Vedantu website to get a proper insight into the examination.

Defining respect in the classroom.

Why do we need to define respect?

A key way to create an inclusive classroom is to establish a set of community norms (Tanner 2017). This can take the form of a syllabus statement or a spoken assertion made on the first day of class and repeated throughout the semester. Often, the language “Treat other students and the instructor with respect” appears in this context.

Unsurprisingly, students and instructors may enter the classroom with different understandings of respectful behavior. Simply calling for “respect” leaves expectations vague, and may not prove sturdy enough for students and instructors to fall back upon during heated moments later in the semester. Defining respect at the beginning of the semester in terms of specific classroom behaviors can help ensure a shared understanding of expectations and provide a point of reference for managing conflict when it does arise (Ambrose et al. 2010; Bain 2004).

NEW RESOURCE:  A collaboration between the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Drake Institute,  this respectful dialoge toolkit defines respectful dialogue, identifies goals for faculty, staff, and students, provides strategies, and shares additional resources and supports.

Sample definitions of respect

Here is a “menu” of possible classroom behaviors that you can use to define respect for your students. Not all will apply to every class; choose, add, or refine the elements that contribute to the learning environment you are trying to create.

  • Use “I” statements about your own experience rather than sharing generalizations about groups.
  • Critique ideas, not people.
  • Honor the diversity that exists between and within groups of people.
  • Use evidence to support your assertions. In this class, acceptable evidence includes […].
  • Maintain a problem-solving orientation so that when problems arise, we assume we can work together to solve them.
  • Listen carefully – When someone has the floor, give them the time and space they need to express themselves.Respectful participation means:
  • Don't talk too much – try to recognize when your opinion is dominating the room and preventing you from listening to others. Share airtime.
  • Don't talk too little – your perspective enriches us all. When you don’t participate, you rob your peers from hearing your side and rob yourself of feedback you might get from others.
  • Beyond Talking – I will provide multiple ways to participate in addition to verbal discussions.

Please engage with in-class activities with an open mind – this course uses multiple types of activities across the semester including group work, discussions and interactive lecture. When the day’s activity is not your preferred way to engage, know that for others in the room, this is their favorite way to learn and you will have other days where your preferences are prioritized.

The importance of follow-through

Once you have formulated a definition of respect for your classroom, include it in your syllabus and/or discuss it with your students during the first few class sessions. Then, be sure to remind students of these community norms frequently throughout the semester, and especially before a difficult discussion.

If a student acts in a disrespectful way, call it out and remind the class of the expectations you set at the beginning of the term. If another student has been attacked or made uncomfortable, publicly reassure that student and emphasize the value of their contributions to class. Students will observe whether you enforce the norms, and this will shape their subsequent behavior. (For more, see How to Deal with Hurtful Speech in the Moment)

Teaching respect in the classroom.

“R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to me 🎶” Every time the topic of respect comes up in the classroom, this song pops in my head! Anyone else?!

There are some years when conversations around respect need to happen often. Respect for school property, respect for fellow students, respect for the teacher, respect for class rules … the list goes on!

speech on respect for class 1

Respect plays an important role in the classroom community. One of my favorite ways to build classroom community is by intentionally teaching character traits. So if you're trying to establish a culture of respect in your classroom, character education is a great place to start.

There are so many different ways you can incorporate character education into your day: morning meeting, class meetings, read-alouds, or a designated social-emotional learning time. How you introduce character traits really depends on the needs of your students, the time you have, and what you are seeing in your classroom.

RESPECT BOOKLIST

Read-alouds can really support conversations around respect and are one of the best ways to teach it!

They are a great place to start to help students see it modeled in different situations by the characters in the story. While reading, pose some open-ended questions about respect and see what students come up with. These read-alouds are some of my favorites for discussions around respect.

  • The Recess Queen  by: Alexis O'Neill
  • My Mouth Is A Volcano  by: Julia Cook
  • Do Unto Otters  by: Laurie Keller
  • I Can't Believe You Said That  by: Julia Cook
  • Whoever You Are  by: Mem Fox
  • The Juice Box Bully  by: Bob Sornson & Maria Dismondy

Find these books and more character trait read-alouds  HERE !

FOCUS TRAIT: RESPECT

Respect is a two-way street. However, some students may not know what that looks like at school or just in general. That's why intentionally teaching a character trait like respect is so important!

My  interactive character trait resource  includes different pieces to use throughout the month of that focus. For example, the respect ideas can be sprinkled throughout the day over a week or month you teach respect.

speech on respect for class 1

“Caught Ya” Slips  – Give these respect slips to students when they show respect at school. Students will love this positive note! This could be picking up trash they see on the ground (respecting school property,) apologizing if they hurt a classmate's feelings (respecting classmates,) or even raising their hand silently and waiting to speak (respecting classroom rules.)

“Respect” Bingo Board  – One way to reward student behavior around respect is classroom management bingo! Every time a student shows respect, they can choose a piece to put on the bingo board. Students can even give shout-outs. After the class gets a bingo, they get a prize. This is an easy and fun way to reward positive behaviors. Plus, it only takes a minute or two here and there throughout the day.

Respect Poster  – Display while you're learning all about respect, the definition of respect, and how students can use it in the school community. Then, keep it somewhere year-round as a gentle reminder to show respect to one another. You could even designate a specific bulletin board all about character traits.

Quote Squares  – The quote squares can be given at the beginning of just introducing respect or as you wrap up learning about it.

Character Education Bundle

This interactive character traits resource is great to teach during morning meetings. Use the slides, discussion and writing prompts, read aloud list, caught ya slips, and more to accompany your character education lessons in the classroom.

INCORPORATING TEACHING RESPECT INTO YOUR DAY

Morning Meeting  – The most effective way to introduce character traits throughout the year is during morning meeting through classroom discussions. This is a natural time to build a positive learning environment and work on social skills on a daily basis.

Class Meeting  – Class meetings can happen once a month or any time you have a class problem that needs to be worked through, like disrespectful behavior in the classroom. Sometimes classes just need a reset. For example, if your class is really having some serious problems with students being respectful, spend one afternoon or morning of class time and do a reset.

Social-Emotional Learning Lessons – Social-emotional learning is SO important when considering the whole child in our classrooms. It is so easy to sprinkle in respect SEL curriculum during the day, week, or month, no matter your schedule. It's all about being intentional and doesn't have to take much time!

Value of Discipline in Student Life Speech – 1

Respected Principal, Chairman, Committee Members, Teachers and Dear Fellow Students – Warm Greetings to everyone!

First of all, let’s just express our gratitude towards the Almighty for gifting us yet another day to enjoy the morning sunshine and the beauty of our school.

Today, I – the representative of Class-X, Shikhwant Sharma, has come on stage to deliver a speech on discipline. It doesn’t give me pleasure to share with you all the fact that our teachers and managing committee have come to notice the growing indiscipline in our school. There was a time when our school was awarded the best school for maintaining discipline in all streams in the entire region and now sadly the management is observing that our school is gradually losing out on its characteristic trait.

Some students are frequently seen coming late to the school due to which other students are also coming under the sway. Not only this, but students have even started bunking classes; are growing inattentive towards their approaching exams and are also not performing well in their tests. This is the reason why I took the initiative to deliver a speech on discipline and make my juniors as well as fellow students realize the importance of discipline in our lives and more so because the management doesn’t want to implement strict rules for the students. They believe in making the environment congenial and adaptable for the students where they naturally feel inclined towards their learning and growth prospects.

So let me tell you friends that this is the most precious time for all of us to lay a sound foundation of our academics. Secondly, that strong foundation can only be laid down by adopting a disciplined way of life and this discipline starts right from our school. Educational discipline involves a process of physical and mental conditioning of the human body and brain respectively.

We all should know that discipline acts as bridge between our objectives and accomplishments. Discipline implies a willing submission to following a set of rules and regulations as imposed by the self for achieving personal goals or by the society to aid in the development of a cohesive nation-building exercise. Most of the time, discipline should be self taught rather than imposed by others because under such situation it becomes choking for an individual to survive. However, we must realize from within that discipline is for our own betterment and progress. It is important for every individual to follow discipline whether it’s a homemaker, working professional, business person, artist or a student for that matter.

As students, it becomes our foremost responsibility to live a disciplined life, i.e. come to school on time, attend all the classes, follow all the classroom teachings unfailingly and strike a balance between our academics and hobbies.

Even though difficult to inculcate, but discipline is a must for our personal growth; then the progress of our institution and our country at large. Its absence may lead us to face failures and defeat. So as students we should first and foremost be punctual and be sincerely devoted to our studies.

In the end, I just want to say that let’s come together and cultivate self-regulation as well as control in our lives in order to become bright students of our schools and bring accolades to our institution.

Value of Discipline in Student Life Speech – 2

Respected Teachers and Dear Students – I welcome you all to the monthly speech giving ceremony of our institute!

Discipline means following rules and guidelines throughout our lives, starting from childhood and continuing into adulthood. People who are disciplined do their tasks correctly and on time. Discipline helps us stay in control and encourages us to make progress in life

I feel extremely elated at the fact that our institute has successfully completed 5 years and since then my association with this place is going strong. I wish many more such years of continued success and growth and hope we continue to nurture the youth of our country with knowledge and right values. Today, as one of the senior faculty members of this institute, I am here to host this ceremony and deliver a succinct speech on discipline for all my students given the fact that it has become the need of the hour as in present times our youth is somewhat living an erratic lifestyle and are flouting rules and codes of behavior.

We should always remember that time is money and if we will destroy time then time will destroy us! So discipline is required in every walk of life no matter we are a student or not. Discipline is the very essence of our lives and if we do away with it then certainly negative impact on our future prospects would follow. Though whiling away time will give you temporary pleasure, but in the end it will result in only a painful experience. It, therefore, becomes important to discipline our lives right from the beginning and make it a basis of conducting our lives.

In fact, discipline is required not only at all stages of life, but in every sphere of life too. For instance, an army cannot imagine its existence without it and so enforces strict discipline in their department and divisions with zero toleration policy. An educational institute too cannot function without it; this is the reason why fixed hours are allocated to both the teachers and students and each one is made to follow the suite so that the rules and regulation of the institution are kept intact. Likewise, in corporate, courts, auditoriums, including even the small private firms discipline has to be maintained in order to preserve the sanctity of the place. In hospitals, the visitors are allowed only at the designated hours beyond which no visitors are entertained. Even for a small thing as paying your electricity bill or the telephone bill or buying a movie ticket for that matter, you will have to stand in a queue and get your work done.

When it comes to our personal lives, we cannot afford complete luxury and some sort of discipline has to be maintained for a stable and meaningful life. For instance, if you succumb to temptation and over eat things, your stomach will get upset. Similarly, if you watch television till late night, you will start feeling unwell the next morning. If you do not discipline yourself in your studies and distract yourself, then you’re not likely to fare well in your exams.

So in a nutshell, life is best enjoyed when discipline is observed. Nothing gives satisfaction in life when the very essence of living life is missing and our existence becomes mere animal-like. In the end, I would just request our students to not let anyone impose rules in your life; rather observe self-discipline, systematize yourself and reap the fruits of benefits out of it.

Value of Discipline in Student Life Speech – 3

Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Student!

Today, this special assembly is organized for the purpose of discussion about discipline among students. As a teacher in this school, it’s my duty to make students realize the importance of discipline in their lives. So, before I begin, I would like to explain you that what is discipline? Discipline is actually a controlled behaviour of a person who follows every rules and regulations and it does not matter where he/she is. These days, discipline among students is decreasing and it is a very problematic situation which needs to be solved.

Discipline is the first thing in the life of a student which leads him/her to the way of success. The reason for setting up rules and regulations in the school is to teach students about what is discipline and maintain discipline among them. In the early stage of a student when he starts from prep, this is the time where the teaching of discipline begins and parents play an important role in maintaining discipline in their child because a child only spends maximum eight hours in the school and rest of the time with his parents. It is very important to understand the importance of discipline in our lives. Discipline is not important only for children but it is important in every person’s life.

If we talk about maturity, self discipline is very important to learn. It helps us to govern and rule ourselves. This is the hardest task among all. Existence of a good school is only possible if there is discipline because it is the first purpose of sending children to school for parents. Just think that, if students can do whatever they want to do in their schools then it will become impossible for the teachers to teach. Many students miss their school without a justified reason or permission of their parents or teachers.

I have got many complaints from students that they are not able to study in their class because of the disruption created by their classmates. This is because of the lack of discipline among students. This responsibility is not only of the school. It is the responsibility of parents, schools and government. There should be some measures taken by the government. There should be a penalty for unjustified short attendance holders. There should be strict rules in the school for proper behaviour.

But sometimes, the reason behind the bad behaviour of a student is his/her family situation and personal problems. Many of the time, students are not able to explain their problems to anyone and thus they get frustrated and cause bad behaviour in them and teachers has the responsibility to understand the cause of the bad behaviour in the students and they should not neglect their responsibility. Thus, I just want to say that we all should understand the responsibility towards maintaining discipline among students and then only this problem would be solved.

On this note, I would like to conclude my speech and I hope that from now onwards all of you will try to maintain discipline in your lives.

Thank you and have a good day!

Value of Discipline in Student Life Speech – 4

Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Students!

As we all know that from today onwards the new session will start and there will be new classrooms, new students and of course new studies and I wish you all good luck for your new journeys. Before the regular day began, I would like to address some of the issues that were seen constantly during the whole last year and it needs a solution so that it would not happen this year. The problem is regarding the lack of discipline among students that projects a bad image in front of the outsiders and creates issues for teachers and other staff. It has become very necessary to teach students discipline strictly.

As your sports trainer, it’s my duty to teach you the lesson of discipline because in sports discipline is a necessity. First of all, education is all about learning discipline and gaining knowledge. Discipline is all about the respect and it means the respect towards rules and regulation or the respect towards a person. If there is no discipline then there will be no respect.

In school principal, teachers and the whole staff deserve respect and when you are outside of the school then your neighbors and everyone else deserves respect. The first step to discipline is to learn to obey other people and rules and regulations of the place where you go. Discipline also means to behave in a good manner such as following the proper dress routine of the school daily because it is seemed many times that there are many students who does not wear school uniform properly and does not get their nails cut etc. All these problems are the cause of lack of discipline.

The biggest problem that came out from the lack of discipline is truancy. Many children miss their school for no clear reason and without the permission of teachers. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure that their child is attending school regularly or not. Lack of attendance is a sign of unorganized family or of their bad conditions.

There should be some rules and regulations for the students who are lacking in attendance and a good behavior in the school. On an unjustified absence of the student in the school, the fine will be charged. Penalty should be charged for the bad behavior such as suspension etc.

Ensuring that everybody grasps the concept of discipline is crucial because it aids in arranging tasks the right way. Discipline essentially involves self-control and can be seen in how someone behaves. So, discipline should come naturally from within and is particularly vital for kids to pick up.

Discipline means following rules and guidelines throughout our entire life, starting from childhood. People who are well-disciplined complete their tasks correctly and on time. Discipline helps us stay in control and encourages personal growth.

Punishments and penalty is not only the solution of this problem but it needs students to understand the value of discipline in their lives because it is the only thing that will help them to focus on their future goals. Without a proper disciplined life it is quite impossible to achieve success. Having fun with your friends and family is also important but it does not mean to neglect your responsibility towards school because in life, everything is important but discipline is must.

On this note, I would like to conclude my speech and I wish you all a great day ahead!

Speech On Self-Respect [1,2,3 Minutes]

Self-respect is the reflection of how positive we think about ourselves and how we feel inside. It boosts our confidence and helps us in personality development. Self-respect makes us aware of our uniqueness and hence we stop comparing ourselves with others.

In this article, we shared some examples of speeches on the self-respect of different word lengths and time durations. With the help of these, you can prepare for a speech completion or present your thought on this topic.

1 Minute Speech On Self Respect

Good morning and welcome all of you gathered here. I am here to present a speech on self-respect.

Self-respect is a building block of our inner infrastructure. It is a fundamental element of our emotional health. It also helps us build a strong relationship with ourselves. This relationship is more important than any other one because if we do not feel good about ourselves, who else will like our company?

Furthermore, it needs to be understood that there is a very thin line between self-respect and ego. Self-respect is all about our internal positive feelings. It does not imply developing an egoistic behaviour towards others. If you fail to differentiate between the two, it will destroy your relationship with others.

Without self-respect, we feel empty from within. Then, life will become boring and we can not live our life to the fullest. Hence, it is a very important aspect of human life. We need to pay attention to how we feel about ourselves and should always try to improve the quality of self-respect. Thank you for listening to my words.

Short Speech On Self-Respect

2-Minute Speech On Self-Respect

Welcome honourable principal, respected teacher, loved parents and dear friends. Today, we are gathered here for this special occasion of… I am here to speak a few words about Self-Respect.

“Self-respect”. As the term suggests it refers to the respect one gives to himself. It is a quality of an individual that impacts confidence, dignity, and personality. For any person, self-respect helps to understand his/her real importance and value.

When we give respect to others, it helps us strengthen our relationship with them. Similarly, when we give respect to ourselves, we build a strong relationship with ourselves. This relationship is more important than any other one because if we do not feel good about ourselves, who else will like our company?

As we know that respect is always given to the right and deserving person. Self-respect encourages one to act morally and ethically. Hence, morality and ethics are two important tools to sustain self-respect. For this reason, if a person with self-respect does anything wrong, he can not make eye contact with himself.

Moreover, it needs to be understood that there is a very thin line between self-respect and ego. Self-respect is all about our inner positive feelings. It does not mean developing an ego of being superior to others. If you fail to differentiate between the two, it will destroy your relationship with others.

Most importantly, a lack of self-respect can drive a person to indulge in bad activities. Plus, a person without self-respect loses his identity and purpose of living. No one likes or respects him. Then, life becomes boring. He feels just lost in his own negative thoughts.

To sum it up, self-respect is a fundamental element of our emotional health. Without having strong self-respect, we can not feel good from within. As a result, we can not live our lives to the fullest.

Thank you for your kind attention and for listening to my words.

3 Minute Speech Example

First of all, good morning to the honourable principal, respected teachers and loving friends and all of you present here today. In your special presence, I would like to say a few words about Self-Respect.

Self-respect is the reflection of how positively we think about ourselves and how we feel inside. It boosts our confidence and helps us in personality development. Self-respect is a feeling that fills us with positivity. It impacts our emotional health, our relationships and our decision-making skills.

Without self-respect, we feel empty from within. Just think, if you can not respect yourself, who else will give you respect? No one. Then, life becomes boring. You feel just lost in your own negative thoughts. This fills us with a thought of an inferiority complex and we start comparing ourselves with everyone around us.

Apart from this, a lack of self-respect increases the effect of peer pressure. It can even lead to depression and anxiety. Hence, there is no choice but to develop self-respect. But what are ways to develop self-respect if you lack it or you want a boost? Let’s discuss some of them.

1. Recognise your strengths- We give respect others for their achievements and extraordinary traits. We also possess some unique strengths. When we start recognising our strengths, we start feeling a sense of respect for ourselves.

2. Be kind to yourself- Kindness is a good virtue for all. But we forget to be kind toward ourselves. We do a lot of negative self-talk about ourselves. We must be very kind when we think about ourselves. It will help you accept yourself the way you are.

3. Celebrate small achievements – Generally, we ignore our small achievements in life which is not fair. Once we start celebrating our small achievements, we feel that we did something meaningful in life. This feeling puts on some weight on our self-respect.

4. Build a positive circle – Our company impacts us more than anything else so choosing your company is an important task which requires wisdom. Make friends who accept you and respect you the way you are. Once you get respect from others, your start giving more respect for yourself.

To sum it up, self-respect is a building block of our inner infrastructure. It needs to be strong. Without strong self-respect, we can not prepare ourselves for fighting the obstacles in life. So, we need to continuously improve in terms of self-respect.

This is all I wanted to share with you. I hope you liked my thoughts. Thank you!

2 Minute Speech On Respecting Elders In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I would like to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about respecting elders. Everyone should learn the discipline of respecting elders. Respecting someone doesn’t require you to follow their instructions exactly.

Even if you pay close attention to what they say, it will change things significantly. From them, you may learn a lot of things because they have more experience than you have. The route you are now on has been traveled by them. Asking for advice from them won’t make you weak, but it will speed up your understanding of the world.

Elders need to be respected to get unselfish help and to feel content and joyful. As they have a lot of knowledge and can assist you in making plans for the future, helping elders is a subtle way to honor them. When you respect elders, they feel honored and they will always be there for you.

Your future and career will be boosted by their advice and life lessons, which will help you become more adaptable. As far as work, education, family, and maturity go, they are far more experienced. They are deserving of this since they have overcome numerous obstacles. Nonetheless, there are drawbacks to mistreating or otherwise mistreating elderly.

In conclusion, respecting elders will improve your quality of life, broaden your knowledge and wisdom, and offer you a profound sense of fulfillment. Also, it will benefit you on a physical, mental, spiritual, and financial level. Thank you.

Speech on International Peace Day

International Peace Day is a special day for everyone. It’s a day that the whole world sets aside to celebrate peace.

You might know it as the 21st of September. It’s a day to think about how we can make the world a more peaceful place.

1-minute Speech on International Peace Day

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, we gather to celebrate a very special day, International Peace Day. This day is like a big birthday party for harmony and unity all around the world. It’s a day when we all say, “Let’s live together without fights, without wars!”

International Peace Day, set on September 21 each year, is like a big shout-out. It tells everyone, “Hey, let’s stop all the bad stuff, even for just one day!” It’s a time when leaders, adults, and even kids like you and me, stop and think about how we can live in a kinder world.

But, you might ask, “What can I do? I’m just a kid!” Well, here’s the magic. You can do a lot! You can start by being kind at home, at school, and in your neighborhood. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, is like a tiny peace seed. And when we all plant these seeds, we can grow a big, beautiful peace garden.

Now, imagine if every person in the world planted just one peace seed. That’s over seven billion peace seeds! That’s a lot of peace, right? And that’s the power of International Peace Day.

So, let’s celebrate this day with joy and hope. Let’s believe that we can make our world a better place. Remember, every big change starts with a small step. And you, yes you, can be that change! Together, on this International Peace Day, let’s promise to plant our peace seeds and help them grow.

2-minute Speech on International Peace Day

Hello, everyone!

Today, we gather to celebrate a day of great importance – International Peace Day. This special day is a reminder for all of us, young and old, to think about the meaning and the value of peace in our world.

The first thing that comes to mind when we say ‘peace’ is the absence of war. It means no fighting, no battles, no bombs. Yes, that’s a part of it. But peace is much more than just not fighting. It’s about how we treat each other every day. It’s about kindness, respect, understanding, and cooperation.

International Peace Day is a time to remember that every one of us can make a difference. It’s not just about big countries making peace agreements. It’s also about simple things, like helping a friend in need, sharing with others, or even just smiling at a stranger. These small acts of kindness can create ripples of peace that can spread far and wide.

Now, let’s think about why peace is important. Imagine a world without peace. It would be a scary place, right? Wars, fights, anger, and hatred would be everywhere. Now, imagine a world full of peace. It would be a place where everyone is happy and safe, where we all work together for the common good. Isn’t that a much better world?

The good news is, we can all help to create this world of peace. It starts with each of us, in our homes, in our schools, and in our communities. We can choose to be kind instead of angry. We can choose to understand instead of judge. We can choose to help instead of hurt. By making these choices, we are each building a small piece of the peaceful world we dream of.

But remember, building peace is not just a one-day job. It’s something we need to work on every day. Just like a garden, peace needs time and care to grow. We need to water it with kindness, feed it with understanding, and protect it from the weeds of hatred and anger.

As we celebrate International Peace Day, let’s pledge to do our part in building a peaceful world. Let’s promise to be kind to one another, to understand and respect each other, and to stand up against hatred and violence. Let’s remember that each one of us has the power to make a difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can light a candle of peace in the darkness.

So, let’s not wait. Let’s start today, on International Peace Day, and carry it forward every day. Together, we can build a world of peace, a world where everyone feels safe and loved, a world we can be proud of.
