Essay on Cricket Match with Quotes for FSC 2nd Year

Last month I got a chance to see a one-day cricket match played between our National team and the Indian team. Our college announced a holiday to witness this match. We had bought the tickets two days before they reached the stadium at 9 O’clock. We were surprised to see all the enclosures fully packed. Men, women, children and old persons from every walk of life had come to see this match. Fortunately, we got seats near the commentary box.

“Cricket is a pressure game, and when it comes to an India-Pakistan match the pressure is doubled.” (Imran Khan)

The match started at 10 O’clock. Waqar Younis, the Captain of the Pakistan team won the toss. He invited the Indians to play first. Both the openers of the Indian Team were experienced batsmen. But they could not play confidently before the Pakistani bowlers. The wicket was giving great help to the fast bowlers like Waseem Akram and Waqar Younis. In the first five overs, they took two wickets against only ten runs. It appeared that the whole Indian team would not be able to score even one hundred runs. But the careful batting by Tendulkar and Laxman gave good support to their team. But Waqar made a wise change by introducing Mushtaq from the college end. His ball was taking a sharp turn and he took the important wicket of Laxman in his first over. The fielding of our team was perfect and they were enjoying the home ground. People clapped and danced when Shoaib took a very difficult catch. Our Wicket Keeper Rashid showed a wonderful performance by stumping out three Indian players. Two of them were run-out and the last three batsmen were caught behind the wickets. At last, the whole team was out after making only one hundred and fifty runs.

Champions never sleep, the eternal spirit keeps them alert and awake.”

There was a break of one hour between the two innings. We also had our lunch. The stadium was picturesque. Especially, the ladies enclosure looked very attractive. People were holding the national flags and banners in their hands and waving them.

“A true batsman should in most of his strokes tell the truth about himself.” (Neville Cardus)

Pakistanis started their innings and Shahid came to pen with Saeed. The target was quite easy and our batsmen played aggressive shots from the very beginning. The captain of the Indian team tried many bowlers one after the other, but he could not succeed to break the partnership. Both the openers scored eighty runs. Then came the great Inzi and Yousaf who loved to hit the ball with full force. Whenever they scored a boundary, people enjoyed and jumped at their seats. In this way, Pakistan defeated India by seven wickets. Shahid was declared the man of the match. It was a match that we can remember forever.

“A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever.” (Mary Lou Retton)

Cricket Match Essay for Students in English - Essay Format and Samples

Cricket is an immensely popular bat-and-ball game. It is played and enjoyed by people all across the globe. A match of cricket is played between players of two teams having eleven players each. Professionally, a match of cricket is played on a field that has a 20-meter pitch in its centre with one wicket of three stumps on each end. In this essay on cricket matches, the various forms and how they are played in matches of cricket are discussed.

A Paragraph on Cricket Match

The paragraph on a cricket match must include that it is enjoyed and loved by numerous people across the world. The professional players of cricket are adored and idolized by many fans and aspiring cricketers worldwide. The popularity of cricket is especially prevalent in countries with national cricket teams such as India, Australia, England, West Indies, etc.

History of Cricket

A paragraph of a cricket match will be incomplete without its history. Cricket had its beginning in the late 16th century south-east England. Afterwards, cricket became England’s national sport in the 18th century and has its global development across the 19th and 20th centuries. The international matches of cricket started in 1844. Cricket is now considered the second most recognized spectacle in the world, after soccer.

Some Renowned Cricketers and Their Contributions

Paragraph on Some renowned cricketers and their contributions should talk about cricketers of different times and eras. Initially, cricket was a sport dominated by players from British countries and their colonies. Back then famous cricketers were Don Bradman, Jack Hobbs, Jim Laker, and many more. Don Bradman continues to hold the record of highest average of 99.9 in a test match. Jim Laker was the first player to capture all 10 wickets in an inning in a test match and also capture 19 wickets in an inning.

In contemporary times legacy has been continued by young players of independent countries which were once British colonies. Here India has performed remarkably. Indian players such as Suni Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and many more have left their mark. Gavaskar was the first cricketer to score 10000 runs in test cricket and he also broke Don Bradman’s record of 29 centuries. Kapil dev on the other hand never bowled a no-ball. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of 51 centuries in test cricket.

Cricketers like these keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive and continue to maintain the status of this noble sport as a “Gentleman’s Game”.

An English Essay Cricket Match Formats

In this part of the essay on cricket matches, the formats are going to be discussed:

Test Cricket

It is the form of cricket that has the longest duration and is generally considered the highest standard in the game of cricket. Here, between the two teams, each team plays a match of two innings and one single match usually lasts up to five days. It is like a trial of levels of endurance among teams and their abilities. Australia currently holds the top rank in the ICC Test Championship.

One Day International (ODI) Cricket

The ODI is the next form in this cricket match essay in English. Here, the overs of the match are limited. ODIs are played between two international teams, each playing for 50 overs. One such example of an ODI match in cricket is the Cricket World Cup, which is generally held once in four years. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs and centuries in the history of ODI cricket with 18,426 runs made.

Twenty 20 Cricket (T20)

It is a shortened format of a cricket match. Professionally, it was first introduced in 2003 by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board). In a match of T20 cricket, each team has single innings and the limit of overs in the match is 20. A typical match of T20 cricket has a duration of 3 hours. Australia holds the top ranking in the ICC T20 International Championship with ratings of 275.

These are the three forms in which general cricket matches are played internationally as recognized by the ICC (International Cricket Council). This essay on cricket matches covers all three main variations.

200 Words Essay On A Cricket Match

Cricket has gained popularity over the years since it was first played. Cricket, which is now the second most popular sport after soccer, is believed to have originated in England during the 16th century and has since spread throughout the globe.

Cricket matches are more of a festival in India than a typical sporting event. The players give the same effort because there is so much anticipation about India’s matches with other countries.

Watching Live | Recently, the cricket World Cup tournament was held, and as expected, people were more than just excited. We were unable to leave anyone behind, so we visited the stadium to watch the match live. As we were on our way, we saw people hurrying towards their homes to watch the match on their televisions. A group of people were going towards the stadium, just like us, because they wanted to see the match live.

The Match | The match began with a coin toss to determine the batting and fielding teams. The whole stadium was filled with people, and as our team won the toss and the batsmen came to the field, the crowd started to call their names; it sounded like a roar. The entire match gave us goosebumps as our team was performing well, and though the opposition was tough, the boys gave it their best. The game was extremely exciting; players ran, balls flew, and everything else that could possibly happen did.

500 Words Essay On A Cricket Match

Cricket is the second-most popular sport in the world. There are 2.5 billion cricket fans worldwide, spread across 180 nations. The ICC Cricket World Cup is the most viewed cricket event. The governing body in charge of planning world cup competitions for international cricket is the International Cricket Council (ICC).

History Of Cricket

Cricket originated in England as a sport for royals in the 16th century; later, during the colonial period, it was adapted by the rajas and nawabs of India as they came into contact with the British. Eventually, the royals of India started organising matches for their own entertainment in which common people were allowed to participate, which started the enthusiasm for this sport in the country.

How It Is Played

In cricket, two teams of 11 players face off against each other, one batting and one bowling and fielding. The batting and bowling teams are chosen through a coin toss. The field is circular to oval, with the main batting and bowling taking place in the middle of the field, involving two batsmen from one team and a bowler and wicket-keeper from the opposing team, while the remaining nine players hold the ground to prevent the batsmen from scoring. There are two umpires on the ground who judge the decisions.

Cricket In India

In India, cricket is more of a festival than a sport; some even call it a religion. From young to old, men and women, everybody is a fan of cricket in our country. The players that represent our country at the international level and our states and schools at the national and regional level are paid so much respect by everybody. The fanaticism of cricket is so deep that if you ask a child what he wants to be when he grows up, the obvious answer will be that he wants to play cricket.

My Experience Of A Cricket Match

Recently, an inter-school tournament was held, and we got the chance to see our team play. The stadium was packed with both our team's and the opposing team's supporters. Everybody was cheering for their teams.

The Game | The game began with a coin toss to determine which team would bat first. Our team won the toss and chose to bat first, and the opponent team bowled first. Both teams were on the ground as the game began, and on the very first ball, our team captain, who was the opening player, hit a six, and the ball flew out of the boundary. This continued throughout the game; whenever a batsman hit a six or four, the entire stadium and cricket ground erupted in raucous cheers from the crowd.

The Excitement | The match was exciting because it had ups and downs; players got clean hits; there were catches; sneak runs; boundaries; everything enthralled the audience. Even the bowling part of our team was much more exciting than the batting part. Our team scored 150 runs and was successful in stopping the opposing team at 120 runs, so we won. The players were appreciated a lot, and everybody talked about the game for more than a week. The team members later got awarded by our principal and the chief guest.

Essay on A Cricket Match 500 Words in English

Below we have provided a Cricket Match Essay in English, written in easy and simple words for class 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

“Cricket to us was more than play; it was a worship in the summer sun.” ~ Edmund Charles Blunden

Two things have made their place in the heart of Indians forever; Shahrukh Khan (The King Khan of Bollywood) and the sport of cricket. In our country, cricket is a religion and players like Sachin Tendulkar are considered as god. This game is enjoyed by small children as well as office going adults. It never fails to amuse us. You can find people playing cricket in world-class stadiums as well as on every corner of a not so well-lit street. You can never know which side the match is going to go as nothing is sure till the last ball is bowled.

I remember being the witness to one such nail-biting finish. I’m sure that all cricket enthusiasts would still remember the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) Finale; how all of us were glued to our television screens and were just waiting for the clock to show 7:30 pm! But I was one of the very few lucky ones who got a chance to visit the stadium in Hyderabad and watch the roller coaster of a finale in front of my own eyes.

My family and I live in Delhi, but since my father is such a cricket lover, we had made plans in advance to watch the finale. It was going to be held in Chennai initially, but because of some reasons, the venue was shifted to the city of Hyderabad. We purchased the match tickets as soon as they went online. All of the thousands of tickets that were available were sold within a record -breaking time of 2 minutes.

That is a mere 120 seconds, just think about it! But then, this is something that one can expect when the two teams playing head-on against each other were Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The match was indeed a clash of the Titans. We landed at the Hyderabad airport and checked into our hotel. After taking a short 2- hour nap, we took a cab and set out for the stadium. There was so much traffic. It felt as if every person in the city was going to the stadium.

Our tickets were double-checked at the entry gate, and we then reached our seats. The stadium felt so lively and was full of people cheering and supporting their favourite team. I doubt if even one seat would have been empty! We were waiting for the toss to start while my father went to bring some snacks and cold drinks for my sister and me. Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, won the toss and elected to bat first. We all were shouting at the top of our voices and just couldn’t wait for even one more second for the match to begin.

The match started and seemed to favour the yellow side. Mumbai Indians lost some of their crucial wickets early in the game including that of their captain for only 15 runs. Bowlers Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir seemed to give the blue batsmen a tough time. The supporters of Mumbai Indians had suddenly turned very quiet. But then came Kieron Pollard and struck a new hope for his side. He played some brilliant shots that went literally through the roof! The blue side posted a score total of 149 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. It was now time for the lions of Chennai to work magic with their bat.

The batsmen of Chennai Super Kings started quite well and kept the run rate exceptionally high. But as soon as Faf du Plessis lost his wicket, things started going south for the team. No other batsmen except for Shane Watson was able to perform exceedingly well. Even our favourite helicopter shot hitter, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was run out for only two runs. At the last ball, the Chennai side needed only one run to draw the game and two runs to claim the trophy.

If not anything else, the audience was expecting at least a super over. But one should not merely expect something beforehand when a talented bowler like Lasith Malinga stands with the ball in his hand on the other side. Malinga bowled a superb delivery under so much pressure. He bowled an LBW (Leg Before Wicket) and brought the Mumbai Indians to victory.

500 Words Essay on Cricket Match

Cricket is a popular sport that many people enjoy all over the world. It is a game played with a bat and a ball between two teams, each with eleven players. The aim is to score runs by hitting the ball and running between two sets of three sticks called wickets.

A cricket match takes place on a large grass field. In the middle of this field, there is a flat strip of land called the pitch. This is where most of the action happens. Around the pitch, there are areas with names like ‘mid-on’, ‘mid-off’, and ‘fine leg’, which tell players where to stand.

Before the game begins, the team captains meet and toss a coin. The winner of the toss gets to choose whether to bat or bowl first. This decision can be very important and can affect the outcome of the game.

The team that bats first tries to score as many runs as possible. Two batsmen go to the pitch, and one of them will face the ball. The other team’s bowler will try to get the batsmen out by hitting the wickets with the ball or making the batsmen make mistakes.

Scoring Runs

Batsmen can score runs in different ways. They can hit the ball and run to the other end of the pitch. If the ball goes to the boundary of the field, they can get four runs. If the ball flies over the boundary without touching the ground, that’s six runs.

Getting Out

There are many ways a batsman can be out. For example, if the ball is caught by a fielder without bouncing, the batsman is out. Or, if the ball hits the wickets while bowling, the batsman is also out. There are other rules, but these are the most common ways.

The Role of Fielders

The team not batting has to field. This means they spread out around the field to catch the ball and stop the batsmen from scoring runs. The wicketkeeper stands behind the wickets to catch the ball if the batsman misses it.

Changing Sides

Once ten out of the eleven batsmen are out, or a certain number of overs are bowled, the teams switch roles. An over is a set of six balls bowled by the bowler. Now the team that batted first will bowl and field, and the other team will bat.

The team that scores the most runs wins the match. If both teams have the same score, the match is a tie. Sometimes, if the weather is bad or there is not enough time, the match can end without a winner.

A cricket match is a fun event filled with excitement and skill. Players show off their batting, bowling, and fielding abilities. Fans cheer for their favorite teams and enjoy the game. Cricket brings people together and creates memories that last a lifetime. Whether you play or watch, cricket is a game that can be enjoyed by everyone.

An Essay on Cricket – 350 Words

I am the Captain of my school cricket team. Our school arranged a learned coach a few months ago to groom our team in the art of Playing. Accordingly I can boast with humility that our team is quite prepared to match any other cricket team in this area of our State. Lest anybody should deem my assertion an empty boast, I here describe a match which our team played with a rival team recently. It is a matter of just Sunday last. I had invited the team of the government school to play a friendly match with our school team. Match was played in our school playground. Our team won the toss. We decided to bat first all the players on both sides and the umpires and the referee took up their positions. The referee blew the whistle and the match started. Our openers Punit and Amit reached the pitch with beaming faces. As the first bat was thrown by the bowler, Praveen, Punit sent the ball swirling towards the boundary. Clearly, it was a fourer. The playground which was packed to capacity resounded with applause. In this way, Punit amassed thirty six runs. There was suddenly a note of dismay when he was caught out by Keshev of the rival team. Amit , however, continued. He played slowly and continuously. He scored 29 runs before he was bowled out. Before lunch our team had scored 202 runs in all in 40 overs. After lunch, the rival team started batting. Our team realized that the rival team was not that weak as we had thought them to be. Soon, they scored 53 runs. My mates began to show the signs of getting unnerved. But I bucked them up. I also brushed up fielding by changing the players. Suddenly, our crack bowler, Sandeep, showed his mettle when he felled down four wickets in quick succession. The rival team crashed like a house of cards and finished at 172 in 37 overs. We won the match All the team members hugged one another. There was rejoicing all around as the place hummed with the slogans!

Long Essay on Cricket- 500 + Words

From the earliest days of its development in England to its current global status, cricket has become one of the world’s most beloved sports. Originally played by members of the British upper class, it has since spread across the globe to become a popular pastime for fans all over. The rules and regulations that govern cricket have been honed over centuries, making it a unique and exciting experience for all who take part. Let’s explore the history of cricket, from its origins through to contemporary developments in the sport.

What is Cricket?

Cricket is a sport played by two teams of 11 players each, with the aim of scoring more runs than the opposition. The game is played on a circular field, often called a cricket ground or pitch. At either end of the pitch are wickets which consist of three wooden stumps and two bails. The objective in cricket is to score as many runs as possible while minimizing how many times you lose wickets. One team bats first while the other one bowls and fields, trying to get the opposing team’s batters out before they can score too many runs. In order to score runs, players must hit the ball bowled towards them with their bat and run back and forth between the two wickets at opposite ends of the pitch. Fielders try to catch or stop balls that have been hit so that they can prevent runs from being scored. Cricket is a complex yet captivating sport that requires strategy, skill and teamwork for success

The History of Cricket

The History of Cricket edumantra.net

Cricket is a sport that has been played for centuries and its exact origins are still debated. What we do know is that it originated in England during the 16th century, and was initially played by children. The first official cricket match took place in 1844 between two teams of Englishmen. But before this, the game had already spread to other parts of the world including India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Indies. In fact, cricket became particularly popular in colonial India where it was introduced by British soldiers. It soon became a national obsession with millions of Indians following their team’s every move. Throughout its history, cricket has undergone many changes and transformations. From being a sport only for amateurs to becoming professionalized with international matches being held regularly. Today Cricket continues to be one of the most beloved sports around the globe with billions tuning into major competitions like the World Cup. And while there have been controversies throughout its history- from match-fixing scandals to disputes over rules- nothing can change how deeply ingrained this beautiful game is in our culture.

An Overview of The Rules of Cricket

Cricket is known for its complex rules and regulations that can be difficult to grasp for someone who is new to the game. Here’s a breakdown of the key rules that govern cricket matches. The two teams consist of eleven players each, with one team batting while the other fields. The goal of the batting team is to score as many runs as possible while the fielding team tries to prevent them from doing so. Each innings consists of six deliveries called ‘balls’. Once all six balls have been bowled, this completes an over. Each team has a set number of overs they must bowl or bat during their innings, depending on the format being played. During play, there are several ways in which a batsman can be dismissed – caught out, bowled out, run out or stumped by the wicketkeeper. The fielding team will try everything in their power to get each batsman out as quickly as possible. One unique aspect of cricket is that it allows for draws under certain circumstances. This usually occurs when both teams have scored an equal number of runs at the end of their allotted overs. Understanding these basic rules is essential if you want to fully appreciate and enjoy watching cricket matches!

How to Play Cricket

Cricket may seem like a complex game, but it’s actually quite simple once you understand the rules. The main objective is to score runs by hitting the ball and running between two sets of wickets. To start off, there are two teams with 11 players each. One team bowls while the other bats. The bowler throws or “bowls” the ball towards the batter who tries to hit it as far away from fielders as possible. If the batter hits the ball within bounds and runs to the opposite end of their pitch before being tagged out by a fielder, they score one run. If they hit it beyond certain boundaries without touching the ground first, they can score four or six runs depending on where it lands. The bowlers try to prevent batters from scoring runs by bowling strategic deliveries such as Yorkers, bouncers, and slower balls that make it difficult for batters to connect with or hit far away. Fielding involves positioning players in strategic positions around the field to catch incoming balls, tag out runners returning between wickets or stop balls from reaching boundaries. Cricket requires teamwork and strategy both when batting and bowling which makes for an exciting game enjoyed worldwide!

Essay No. 01

Last year we played a match which I will long to remember. It was played at the invitation of famous Cantonment Cricket Eleven.

We reached the Cantonment Club. George, the skipper of the other teams shook hands with our captain. He led the party to the field. Our captain lost the toss. We then our positions in the field. Near the stumps lay the red ball.

The batting began. The stout long man came in to bat. He played for a few minutes only and was then caught. One wicket was down with no runs! We were all so excited. Was the opposite team going to be defeated so easily? Presently the second batsman appeared. His very first stroke showed him a skilled player. His batting was firm and swift. He began piling up runs. We did not lose heart. We changed our bowlers, alternating fast one with slow ones. At last, our best bowler, Raj came forward. With his second ball, he took the batsman by surprise. Before the batsman could strike the ball, it had cleanly struck one of the stumps.

The batting continued, but no other player of the opposite team played so well as the second. They paled a good game but our bowlers proved too strong for them. The sixth batsman seemed to be in good form. He added considerably to the score.  The Cantonment team were all out by lunch hour. The score stood at 207.

Lunch being over, the referee gave a whistle. The players stood in the field again. Now our side went in to bat. Our first batsman made a poor start a poor start. After cutting a fastball or two he seemed to lose his grip on the bat. He could not score many runs. Our two wickets fell in quick succession. Cricket is a game of chance. So we thought it was too early to lose hope. As Ramesh, one of our best batsmen, went forward, we hoped he would recover lost ground. He started well and brought the score to 50, but then a fastball struck him on the face. He was carried away unconscious from the fields.

After a brief interruption the game was resumed, and our side went on batting, raising the score shanty our eighth batsman proved the hero of the day. With great confidence, he hit back every ball for the full two hours. He scored a century and twenty runs. Our score had already exceeded that of the opposite team. Before the stumps were drawn our captain declared at 375. The last man was not out.

There are very few people who are not interested in the game. The young and the old, women and children equally take an interest in watching cricket. It has given rise to a  strange cricket culture. Lots of young boys dream to become successful cricketers and devote all their time and energy to learn the skills of batting and blowing. Even women cricketers are showing their talents overboard. Whenever there is an international cricket match held in any Indian city the whole city wears a festive look. There is nothing except cricket everywhere. Almost all the roads lead to the cricket field. The work in all private and Government offices comes almost to a stop. The students of schools and colleges go for a voluntary holiday and try to get a seat among the spectators or watch the events on the television. I am the Captain of my school cricket team. Our school arranged a learned coach a few months ago to groom our team in the art of Playing. Accordingly. I can boast with humility that our team is quite prepared to match any other cricket team in this area of our State.

Lest anybody should deem my assertion an empty boast, I here describe a match which our team played with a rival team recently.

It is a matter of just Sunday last. I had invited the team of the local government school to play a friendly match with our school team. The match was played in our school playground. Our team won the toss. We decided to bat first. All the players on both sides and the umpires and the referee took up their positions.

The referee blew the whistle and the match started. Our openers Punk and Amit reached the pitch with beaming faces. As the first ball was thrown by the bowler, Praveen, Punit sent the ball swirling towards the boundary. Clearly, it was a fourer. The playground which was packed to capacity, resounded with applause.

I also brushed up on fielding by changing the players. Suddenly, our crack bowler, Sandeep, showed his mettle when he felled down four wickets in quick succession.

The rival team crashed like a house of cards and finished at 172 in 37 overs. We won the match. All the team members hugged one another. There was rejoicing all around as the place hummed with the slogans ! “Hurrah !” “Hurrah !”

Games and matches inspire everyone. I am very much fond of witnessing a match and feel much delighted. The Principal of our College announced that a match was to be played shortly between our team and that of the S.D. College, Panipat on our college playground. I eagerly waited for the moment and felt very glad.

At last the day fixed for the match dawned. At 8 A.M. the players of both teams arrived in their uniforms. A large number of students of both the Colleges reached in time to witness the match. The members of the staff also arrived. Everyone looked at the players of both the teams who appeared to be very smart and active. The directors of Physical Education of both the teams worked as umpires.

Suddenly, there was much excitement amongst the players. The umpire whistled and the captains of both the teams reached the center of the ground. A spin of the coin decided the toss. Our team won the toss and our opponents held the field.

The game started at 8.10 A.M. As soon as the match started there was much clapping and cheers. The two players moved forward to initiate the game. They played well. It appeared that both of them were confident of their success. They were very fine batsmen. They were able to score fifty runs. Suddenly, one of them was caught out. After that another player of our team moved forward. He played well and gave a good account of himself. He easily raised our score to 110 before he was bowled out. As soon as the score was announced, there was wide cheering, whistling and clapping.

The captain of our team moved forward. He was a great player who had won many medals and merit certificates in cricket. He played so well that he was able to raise the score to 199. There was loud cheering as he was still unfatigued and untired. Thus our score went on mounting and it reached 212 when the lunch hour arrived and both the teams retired for taking lunch.

After the lunch, the game started again. Our opponents started playing. The first two players played astoundingly well and they scored 79 runs, but unfortunately the other players did not play well. Their score stood at 154. The team lost control over the game. The wickets began to fall speedily one after the other. The next player was soon bowled out. We witnessed the match eagerly as the time was drawing to a close. But the last player of the opponent team maintained the balance and raised their score to 170. The game was so well played that we felt that we could not easily have a win over the opposite team. We were doubtful of our victory. There were clappings all around and their score stood at 180 when their last player was caught out. Every face was beaming with joy. Now there was no hope of scoring any further run. The opponent team lost the game.

The time was over. There was wide clapping and cheering. The captain of our team was picked up by the youth of the college on their shoulders. To our greet joy, our team had won the match. But there was so much excitement and wonder that I could not hear any voice at all afterwards. The deafening voice of the onlookers stunned us and we were feeling an indescribable pleasure.

It was a red-letter day in the history of our College, as our team had won the match that was a closely contested one. Matches are always played amongst different teams of educational institutions, but I never witnessed so much excitement and a spate of joy in my life as I did on this occasion.

Last week we played a friendly match with Ramjas School. It was played at Talkatora grounds. Both the teams reached the ground. The captains of the two teams went in for a toss. The coin was thrown up in the air. Our captain won the loss and decide to bat first.

Out openers went in to open the innings. It was a limited 40-over match. We lost the first two wickets just for 10 runs in four overs. Rahul and Raman batted well. They took the score to 160 in 20 overs. Then Rahul was caught behind. Soon Raman was given LBW. The again fifth wicket partnership took the score to 200 runs. In the last five overs, our team lost 4 more quick wickets. The last pair remained not out and the final score after forty overs was 260.

Then there was a break for half an hour. We had our lunch. Our coach discussed the tactics of the game with the captain and other players. The match was resumed at 2 p.m. The openers of Ramjas School played cautiously. They took the score to 50 in ten overs. Soon one of them got run out. The next batsman who lost his wicket was the newcomer. They lost two wickets for fifty-two. Raman, our spinner, was brought not a bowl. He checked the score with his accurate line and length. Nikhil bowled superbly. He dismissed two batsmen for ten runs. Now the score was 88 for four. Their fifth-wicket partnership was worth 60 runs. The score reached 148 when one more batsman was declared run out. The score soon reached 200 for five in thirty-two overs. At this stage is looked as if we would lose the match. But then our fielders did well. They held 3 good catches in a spell of just 22 balls. Our captain then came in to bowl. In the very first over the trapped one batsmen LBW. In five overs, with one wicket in hand, the Ramjas team needed 26 runs to win the match. The chances of our team’s winning looked bright. In the last over the rival team needed ten runs to win. But as luck was on our side, the last man lost his middle stump in the first ball bowled by Raman.

The crowd of supporters of our team jumped up with joy. It was a well-fought and won the match. Players shook hands and took tea together.
