Freddy movie review and audience reaction: Kartik Aryan following his latest hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has been quite busy promoting (Freddy) and shooting (Shehzaada) for his upcoming projects. No doubt the year 2022 has been quite busy for the young heartthrob of the industry and now he has finally made his much awaited OTT debut with spine chilling revenge thriller titled ‘Freddy’. In Freddy Kartik Aryan starred alongside Alaya F. and now following it’s grand Disney hotstar release on december 2nd 2022, here we are with it’s review and reaction.

Prepare to witness Kartik in a new avatar because, in Kartik's opinion, the plot of this film is something he hasn't previously explored.

Freddy is a dark psychological thriller, something which Kartik Aryan never explored before.Kartik Aaryan, the film's lead actor, carries the whole weight of creating Freddy's dark, unpredictable persona. It offers something quite special that is neither typical or traditional of an action thriller movie. You will definitely get a good blend of Comedy, dark humor, and satire present alongside the action.

Freddy review: Kartik Aaryan's naive sociopath act feels helpless in a screenplay as bad as a root canal

The appeal that thrillers can elicit can be diminished by the predictability factor. When the rest of the story is revealed during the intermission, the attempt to make Freddy a thrilling thriller falls flat.

Dr. Freddy Ginwala (Kartik Aaryan) is an uncomfortable and introverted man who longs to find his soul mate. When he does find her (Alaya F.), the connection is as unpleasant as a root canal.

It was 2004 and the movie was Fida , where we see Shahid Kapoor getting the biggest shock when Kareena Kapoor, the love of his life, gets out of a shower with Fardeen Khan. The biggest twist that comes out of nowhere in the Ken Ghosh directorial changes the whole plot of the film, and so does Shashanka Ghosh's Freddy . The filmmakers with the same last name thought alike when it came to creating a thriller and shedding the "chocolate boy" image of the lead actors, Shahid Kapoor in 2004 and now Kartik Aaryan.

Freddy , a thriller, explores the life of an introverted dentist named Dr. Freddy Ginwala, who paints toy planes, has only one friend, a turtle named Hardy, and drinks only Falooda while visiting a restaurant to meet girls via matrimonial websites. He is an orphan with a troubled childhood, so aunties in his community keep a check on him every now and then to know if he is doing fine.

The whole set-up of Freddy being this intriguing character might make you wonder why he is like this and doesn't fight the world. But here is a man who is comfortable in his own space and expects a soulmate will find him and complete him. Although naive, in no time he comes off as a creepy stalker who stares at a woman's cleavage, whether they have come to meet him as a potential suitor or a patient. This borderline sociopathic behaviour gives a hint that this man can be bad news too.

The plot is quite interesting until the intermission block arrives and makes it yet another revenge story. The teasers were deceptive, and you might wonder if it's a dentist-plus-serial-killer plot. However, it's much more underwhelming than that and goes haywire just after an hour of its runtime.

Without a grip that the cast can hold, the plot becomes wafer-thin and overly predictable. However, it's quite interesting to witness a change in Kartik, and he will make you stay with his character for a longer time. However, none of the other cast members contributes to this effort.

The two-hour-long film is divided into two parts. One makes up a story about how a dentist's life is turned upside down by a small mistake he made and how he plans to get things back to normal by doing the most dangerous things. Kartik in the titular role keeps a very innocent and naive face throughout, but the fire ignited in him takes the course of the rest of the film, which looks believable despite the modern times we live in.

The sadistic pleasure that each of the characters has in seeking revenge might have looked good on paper, but it was plain funny and laughable in many instances. For example, the character of Raymond Nariman (Karan A. Pandit) as Kainaz Irani's (Alaya F.) boyfriend is just reduced to a caricature. After a point in time, his dialogue delivery seemed offensive, as it doesn't start with a Parsi accent but heavily relies on it later. At the screening, the moment he started coming on screen, people started laughing, knowing that some stupidity was going to take place then and there. Well, he delivers, and although I wouldn't have been able to describe it in one word, a cop does it by calling him a "protein shake."

Alaya F, who made her debut in 2020 with Jawaani Jaaneman , looked promising when she forayed onto the big screen. However, the character just doesn't do justice to the potential that we saw about two years ago. The actor, with a vengeful and selfish motive, felt more like a series vamp, and it was not good enough to entertain or leave you intrigued. Even the disturbing camera work, which shows close-ups of her beauty, such as her perfect teeth or toned legs and cleavage, is disturbing. Her change from an abusive wife to a vengeful single woman is too easy, and her appearance shows this more than anything else.

Kartik Aaryan as Freddy has given his best performance in his career. The actor learned about the project and completed the assignment as requested. Even the tiniest details, which might seem unimportant, are handled perfectly and make an impression. The film, however, does not entirely do justice to the character, which is the biggest drawback to what Kartik left to seek.

Even while portraying the lover boy image, which the actor has done before, there's something visibly new that he brings to the table that is, so to say, surprising. There's a scene just at the start of the film where Freddy is being questioned about his age, as he mentions 28 on the matrimonial website, and the girl claims he looks much older than that. It's also admirable to see how he went through a physical transformation for the role.

Freddy was directed by Shashanka Ghosh, who also directed Plan A Plan B for Netflix this year. Parvez Sheikh, who co-wrote Darlings this year, penned the screenplay. But it's the screenplay that is the weakest link in the whole film. The linear format, the characters, the runtime—everything has been in place—but it's the plot with a climactic interval that takes away the highs that it was set out for. The last ten minutes make it interesting but don't deliver the punch that the whole film needed. Even the dialogue by Aseem Arrora doesn't help the film in any way.

Ace cinematographer Ayananka Bose explores the hidden bylanes of Mumbai, which is mostly Matunga, the heart of the downtown part of the city. Those vintage buildings and even the spooky, haunted-looking farmhouse in Karjat have been captured well by him. However, the part that brings more cheer to people is shown very gloomy, setting the wrong vibe for the city it's meant to be, especially Marine Drive. Rajat Poddar, who is the production designer, does a great job in creating the houses, which give off immense Parsi vibes.

Pritam Chakraborty, who has been the music director of the year in Hindi, is also the composer of Freddy . The two songs from the film, Kaala Jaadu and Tum Jo Milo , have quite a charm that you might want to add to your playlist.

Freddy has so many plot holes that even Kartik Aaryan's performance isn't enough to save the film. The actor can save the movie, but the latter doesn't share mutual feelings.

Thriller films can lose the charm they create because of the predictability factor. With the interval revelation, the rest of the plot of Freddy is easier to figure out, and the attempt to make it an edge-of-the-seat thriller nullifies badly.

Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan-fronted Freddy will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on December 2, the makers announced Monday.

Produced by Balaji Telefilms and Northern Lights Films, the movie is billed as an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

Shashanka Ghosh, known for movies such as Khoobsurat, Veere Di Weddin and Plan A Plan B , has directed Freddy , which stars Aaryan in the titular part of Dr Freddy Ginwala.

The character is described as a dentist with a traumatic past. He is also a socially awkward person who loves playing with his miniature planes and the only friend he has is his pet turtle ‘Hardy’.

"Kainaaz (Alaya F) is a married woman, who has an abusive husband but falls in love with Freddy. Freddy finds an unusual solution to get married to Kainaaz but there is a twist which leads to a chaos of emotions and turns his life upside down.

"An interesting plot filled with twists and turns, Freddy will keep the audiences at the edge of their seats," the official plotline read.

Aaryan said the film has a complex script and character, and he had to work hard for the role.

"The prep of the role had to be done physically and mentally as well. The character helped explore a different side of my craft and encouraged me to challenge my abilities at every step as an actor.

"The first time I got the opportunity to explore the dark side of me. The film will reach millions of viewers to watch it at their convenience with Disney+ Hotstar. I am glad to be a part of 'Freddy' and excited to see the audience reaction for the film," the actor said in a statement.

Alaya F said she wanted to be a part of the film after script narration.

"Kainaaz was a challenging character for me, I had to learn and unlearn a lot of things to get into character. I feel so grateful for this opportunity! It’s helped me widen my horizons, and it’s also enabled me to explore a whole new side of myself.

"With Kartik, Shashanka sir and all the other members of the team, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I can’t wait for the film to release on Disney+ Hotstar," she added.

Producer Ektaa R Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms said Freddy will present Aaryan in a "whole new avatar".

"We are excited to associate with Disney+ Hotstar and this has given Freddy a global platform, the audience can expect a roller coaster ride throughout the film," she added.

Ghosh said the movie will explore the themes of romance, betrayal, and show how an "ordinary man turns extraordinary".

"The power of Freddy is its incredible writing of each character, sets and background music. This kind of treatment required strong actors such as Kartik Aaryan and Alaya F.

"I am so happy to have found Freddy and Kainaaz in them. With Kartik Aaryan’s character in the film, the fans are going to be blown away seeing him in a never seen before avatar," he added.

After Dhamaka , which was released on Netflix last year, Freddy is Aaryan's second movie which will have a direct-to-digital release. PTI

Freddy Hindi Movie Review : With each movie, Kartik Aaryan becomes a larger star in the Hindi film business. His most recent success, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” was a smash hit that brought in a lot of money for the producers. After such great success, he has now created the suspense film “Freddy,” which is currently streaming straight on Disney+Hotstar. The movie’s teaser, which showed both Freddy’s good and nasty sides, looked quite intriguing. Let’s go into the full assessment of this film to find out if it lives up to the teaser’s promise of intrigue.

Dr. Freddy Ginwala, a quiet, lonesome, and socially uncomfortable individual, is the focus of the film Freddy. He only has one companion, a pet turtle by the name of Hardy, and he enjoys playing with his model airplanes. But nobody is aware of Freddy’s sinister side. The rest of the story is about what caused Freddy to become dangerous enough to kill people and how he dealt with those who were murderers.

Cast & Crew

Kartik Aaryan, Jeniffer Piccinato, Alaya F, Tripti Agarwal, and others make up the cast of the Freddy movie. Shashanka Ghosh is the director, and Jay Shewakramani, Ekta Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor are the producers. Pritam Chakraborty composed the music for this film, and Ayananka Bose was in charge of the photography. This film is being edited by Chandan Arora.

The Freddy movie takes its time introducing the character of Freddy and longer to illustrate his daily activities. These scenes go longer than usual, which causes the viewer to lose interest quickly. Only when Freddy’s shadowy side is shown on screen does the movie pick up the pace and become entertaining. Despite the fact that a few scenes are intriguing and have the potential to send chills down our spines, we can sense that something went wrong and rendered these sequences to look quite ordinary. Even though the movie is a thriller, it is impossible to pinpoint what went wrong with the sequences because they have no dramatic impact. The movie’s climax is equally predictable and just passably performed.

In terms of acting performances, Kartik Aaryan’s character “Freddy” is the main focus of this film. A few days before the film’s release, the production team published a video showing Kartik Aaryan’s transformation into Freddy. Kartik has undergone a noticeable physical makeover, yet his performance is lacking. The character of Freddy has a lot of room for performance, showing off various sides to him and emotions that could make a big impact, but Kartik Aaryan’s portrayal of the role failed to make that impact and he frequently comes off as very artificial. All other actors performed admirably in the brief parts that were given to them, and Alaya did fine in her small part.

The Freddy movie looks good technically. Pritam’s music and background soundtrack are among the film’s standout features. The action is made more fascinating and heightens the gloomy tone in part thanks to the movie’s background music. Ayananka Bose’s cinematography looks fantastic in a few instances but has some rather mundane framing in others. Good editing eliminates any superfluous scenes. High production values.

Shashanka Ghosh, the director of the already digitally released film “Plan A Plan B” this year, was unimpressed once more with his creation. Although the plot of the film is straightforward, he could have made it more engaging by emphasizing Freddy’s persona and creating interesting characters to surround him.

Overall, Freddy is a mediocre thriller that you can stream this weekend on Disney+Hotstar. There aren’t many scenes in this film that are very captivating.

Freddy review: Karthik Aryan scores an A+, but the film could have been so much more

In Freddy, Shashanka Ghosh tries to do something different, but he lacks the finesse required for this kind of film.

Karthik Aryan is someone who is synonymous with lighter roles. Whether it is the Pyar kaa Punchnama series or the recent Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 . In between there was also Ram Madhvani’s Dhammaka , but Karthik is someone who is still largely associated with comedy and romance.

With Freddy , the actor does something drastically different. The same applies to director Shashanka Ghosh as well.

There is no denying that Freddy starts off promisingly, but it soon becomes a mundane revenge drama.

Freddy tells the story of Dr Freddy Ginwala (Karthik Aryan). Freddy is someone who has difficulty in communicating with people other than his patients. He is haunted by a childhood trauma. Freddy is a respected dentist but he has no friends except for a tortoise. He desperately wants companionship but it is not happening anytime soon.

Things take a turn when Freddy spots Kainaaz (Alaya F) at a wedding. It is love at first sight for Freddy. Kainaaz is a victim of an abusive marriage. Freddy soon becomes her companion; he also hatches a plan with Kainaaz to bump off her husband.

However, Kainaaz is not what she appears to be and soon enough Freddy faces a big jolt.

The rest of the story is about how Freddy’s personality goes through a sea change and what happens at the end.

The second-half problem

As mentioned, Freddy begins well enough. The social awkwardness of Freddy is well established and as an audience you are invested in his journey. Freddy’s desperation to find a partner makes you root for him. Alaya F’s entry spices up the film. There isn’t much scope for romantic chemistry, but still both Karthik and Alaya are wonderful to watch together.

Things go fine until the big twist comes along. From here the film enters the territory of Shahid and Kareena Kapoor starrer Fida . Much like that film, here, too, Freddy is seething with rage.

Shashanka Ghosh tries to give more dimensions to Freddy, throwing in the angles of mental health and childhood trauma. However, these efforts come across as rather half-baked.

The revenge of Freddy has also been portrayed in a haphazard manner. The thrills are mostly missing.

Kudos to Karthik Aryan

In the title role, Karthik Aryan gives it his all. There is a visible transformation that you see in his body language. He has drastically alternated his trademark mannerisms and merged himself into the character.

Alaya F embraces the dark shades of her character wholeheartedly. Her character-switch is rather abrupt but Alaya is consistently watchable.

The rest of the cast are there just for the sake of filling the screen.

Freddy is a decent attempt at making a psychological crime thriller. However, a lot more effort was the need of the hour, the extra half-star is purely for Karthik Aryan’s transformation.

Exclusive: kartik aaryan reveals details of freddy being an ott release; says, “i did the film keeping that in mind”.

Kartik Aaryan revealed in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama that Freddy is under post production and the OTT platform for its release is yet to be decided.

Kartik Aaryan, who is riding on the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 , took a break after the record-breaking success of the horror comedy. After returning, he dived into Shehzada , his next most anticipated project which is a remake of the Allu Arjun starrer Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo . But amidst his multiple films, the actor also did an unconventional romance drama titled Freddy with Alaya F and Jeniffer Piccinato, which is expected to have an OTT release. The actor recently revealed exclusively to Bollywood Hungama that not only did he know about this but he has done the film keeping in mind his OTT audience.

Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Kartik Aaryan will be paired alongside Alaya F for the first time for Freddy . Besides this, Kartik Aaryan has Shehzada , Captain India , and Satyanarayan Ki Katha in the pipeline.

Karthik Aryan is one of the top stars in the country. Apart from doing fun films, he also tries experimental cinema once in a while. His latest presentation is Freddy which had an OTT release on Disney Hotstar yesterday. The film has Alaya F as the heroine and Shashankh Ghosh directs it.

Dr. Freddy Ginwala(Karthik Aryan) is a loner and single dentist who is leading a boring life. He is trying hard to find a soulmate and even tries a few matrimonial websites but still luck eludes him. One fine day, a young woman named Kainaz(Alaya F) walks into his clinic and sparks fly. Freddy gets close to Kainaz and chemistry starts building up. But a crazy act done by Kianaz disturbs Freddy and he cuts loose. What did Kainiaz do to break the lava outside from Freddy? Watch the film to know the answers.

Performances :

Karthik Aryan puts on weight for his role and showcases his dark side in an engaging manner. As we have seen him in so many lovable roles, it takes us time for us to adjust to his beastly and dark side in the film. But still, Karthik lets loose and showcases a new side of the actor in him. Alaya F is good but looks a misfit in her role. Her character gives a major jolt to the hero and the way it is executed, Alaya could not bring out the key emotions impressively. 

Technical Aspects :

Camerawork by Ayanka Bose is amazing as she showcases the bylanes of Mumbai in a gritty manner. Freddy has a dark tone and thanks to the visuals of Bose, the film looks different. The dialogues are shady and do not create any impact. Especially those written for Karthik are dull. Music is by Pritam and the two songs are good. The BGM is amazing and gives the film an edge. The score given for the tense moments when Karthik goes wild sounds well. Parvez Shaikh has written the story and his ideology of a dentist gone wild looks novel on paper.

Freddy is the story of a dentist who suffers from multiple personality disorder. So, the world of the lead actor played by Karthik Aryan had to be set right. In this department, director Shashank Ghosh gets things right as he establishes the mood of Freddy interestingly with the audience. The way he brings the character of Alaya F and Freddy falling for her is also neat to watch. But the chemistry between the lead pair is not that great. Sparks do not fly and the love story looks boring.

Freddy has a cat and mouse kind of a scenario but the tension is not generated well by the director. The needed masala in a thriller is lacking somewhere in the execution. The plot, runtime, performances are in place but the linear screenplay does not help matters much. The latter part of the film is a mess as the conviction with which the character of Freddy does things is not that impressive. There is no pain in his approach and what he does.

The script has so many great points which could have been developed. The key characters have sadistic nature in them but it is hardly developed. The plot has way too many issues and after a point Karthik Aryan also cannot keep up pace with it. After a point, the scenes become predictable and we all know what the protagonist is going to do next. 

Finally, Freddy has the premise, performances, and great storyline. There are some very good thrills in the mid part as well. But the sad part is that the second half goes for a toss and the thrills don’t bore or either impress you while watching, making Freddy a passable watch for thriller genre lovers.

Freddy Movie Review : Kartik Aaryan’s star rises with each new Hindi film he appears in. His most recent commercial success, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” was very profitable for its producers. The rest of the plot focuses on Freddy’s transformation into a murderous threat and his interactions with other violent criminals.

Kartik Aaryan, Jeniffer Piccinato, Alaya F, Tripti Agarwal, and others are among the cast of the Freddy movie. Shashanka Ghosh helms, with Jay Shewakramani, Ekta Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor as producers. Pritam Chakraborty composed the score, and Ayananka Bose was the cinematographer for this film. This film is currently in post-production, headed by editor Chandan Arora.

In the film Freddy as a character is introduced slowly, and his daily routine is shown much more slowly. Due to the unusually long length of these sequences, viewers quickly become bored. The movie picks up speed and is more exciting once we see Freddy’s darker side on the screen. Some sequences are intriguing and may give us chills, yet something is off and they come out as rather ordinary. Despite being a thriller, the film’s lack of emotional sequences makes it difficult to deduce what went wrong. The film’s conclusion is both expected and unsatisfying.

Kartik Aaryan’s performance as “Freddy” is the main focus of the acting in this film. The production team released a video explaining how they transformed Kartik Aaryan into Freddy just days before the film’s premiere. Kartik’s physical transformation is impressive, but his play hasn’t kept pace. There is a lot of dramatic potential in the character of Freddy. Kartik Aaryan’s performance didn’t make that effect, and he often seems quite artificial, despite the fact that he has a wide range of emotions and personas that could be powerful. Alaya, like the other supporting cast members, did a fantastic job with her limited screen time.

The filmmaking is very well done. The film’s soundtrack and sound effects by Pritam are among its most memorable aspects. The film’s score enhances the thrilling action and contributes to the ominous atmosphere. Ayananka Bose’s camerawork can be stunning at times, but can sometimes be rather dull. Scenes that aren’t crucial to the story’s progression are cut out in a good edit. The standard of quality is really high.

This year, Shashanka Ghosh, the director of the digitally distributed film “Plan A Plan B,” was once again dissatisfied with his own work. Although the movie’s narrative is straightforward, he missed an opportunity to add depth by developing Freddy’s character and introducing compelling side characters.

As a whole, Freddy is an average horror film that will be available this weekend on Disney+Hotstar. This movie lacks compelling sequences.
