What Is Quizizz and How to Use It with Your Students?

Quizizz is a game-based learning tool that you can use to engage students in deep and meaningful learning experiences. It allows you to create both teacher-paced and student-paced quizzes and lessons. Using Quizizz editor, you can easily design your own quizzes  embedding various types of questions (multiple choice, open ended, polls, fill in the blanks, etc.) and media (e.g., images, videos, voice clips, and audio recordings). 

Alternatively, you can use Quizizz library to search thousands of ready-made quizzes and lessons spanning several subjects and grades. You can adapt these quizzes to your teaching needs, edit them the way you want, import questions right into your quizzes and share them with your students.

Quizizz provides you with a powerful grading system that generates instantaneous performance reports providing you with a treasure trove of analytic data to use to prepare for remedial interventions and to help you in your lesson planning. With a single click you can share these reports with parents to keep them in the know of their kids learning progress.

Quizizz is a ‘gamified student engagement platform’ that allows you to create, edit, and share fun and interactive quizzes and lessons. As is the case with Quizalize , Kahoot , Quizlet , and Blooket , Quizizz lets you create your own classes, add students, and share game-based quizzes with them.

 You can either assign quizzes as homework in which case students take their time to work on them at their own pace or you can host live quizzes in class. As students take quizzes, you get access to ‘detailed class-level and student-level insights for every class’. 

There are several ways to use Quizizz in your classroom. Here are few suggestions:

• Use it as a form of formative assessment. Create quizzes and games that test students knowledge of taught materials. Use the Reports feature to analyze the performance of each student and to plan individualized intervention. Insights provided by Reports can also help you identify areas where learning problems occur and design remedial work accordingly.
• Invite other teachers to collaborate with you on creating shared quizzes and assignments.
• Use polls to collect students feedback and engage them in decision making regarding issues pertaining to their day to day learning
• Invite students to create quizzes and host them live for the whole class to play
• Use quizzes for exit ticket activities to check students learning 
• Use quizizz games in book review and in digital storytelling activities
• Check students prior knowledge about the concepts you are going to teach
• Use Quizizz to introduce new topics in fun, interactive, and engaging ways
• Use quizzes as writing or discussion prompts 
• Enhance multimodal learning by allowing students to answer assigned quizzes in the digital format they  like
• Ask students to use Draw to sketch out visual illustrations of their answers.

How to create a Quiz on Quizizz?

There are two ways to create quizzes on Quizizz: You can either start a quiz from scratch or use a pre-made quiz from Quizizz library. Here is how to create a quiz from scratch:

• Log in to your Quizizz account
• Click on Create from the left side bar and select New Quiz
• Type in a name for your quiz and select relevant subjects and click on Next
• Use the Quiz Editor to write your questions. The supported formats include: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, open ended, draw, slide, and poll.
• Select the question format of your choice and type in your questions.
• Use  Equation Editor to add math equations. You can also add images to questions
• Click on the audio icon if you want to create audio for the questions
• Select alloted time for each question or for the whole quiz
• Click on Topics and type in a topic for your quiz. This will allow you to get students performance Reports organized by topic.
• When you are done, click on Save. Your quiz is now saved to your library.

To share quizzes you created or edited, follow these steps:

• Log in to your Quizizz account
• Click on My Library from the left pane
• Select the quiz you want to share and click on Share
• Type in email addresses
• ‘Click on the ‘Can View’ and ‘Can Edit’ options next to the email address dialogue box. These options are applicable to all email addresses mentioned in the dialogue box.’
• Enable public access link if required
• Click on Share.

Quizizz library hosts thousands of ready-made quizzes and lessons created by other teachers and educators. These resources are arranged into various categories including: Ice-breakers and bell ringers, Mathematics, English and Language Arts, Social Studies, World Languages, Science, Computer Science Skills, and many more. You can also use the site’s search box to search for quizzes and lessons. Here is how to do it:

• Click on Explore on the left pane
• Browse through the featured categories or type in your query in the search box
• Filter your search using Grade (Elementary to University), Subjects, Languages, Number of Questions, etc.
• Hover your mouse over search results to view the content of quizzes and lessons
• When you find the quiz or lesson you are interested in click on Play to start a live quiz, assign it as homework, or to preview it.

Quizzes you can host live are those you created yourself from scratch or those that are publicly available in Quizizz library. Here is the process:

1- Go to My library or Use Explore to search for a ready-made quiz. Click on the quiz you want to host live

2- Select Start a live quiz and choose a mode:

  Classic mode : ‘Students progress at their own pace and you see a leaderboard and live results’. There are three modes in Classic:

          A- Classic: students answer at their own pace and compete individually.

          B- Team: Students answer at their own pace but scores are grouped by team.

          C- Test: This is the standard testing mode and requires login.

  Instructor-paced mode: ‘Control the pace so everyone advances through each question together’.

3- Click on Continue and copy the generated join code to share with students

4- Students go to joinmyquiz.com and enter the code and their name to join the game. Teachers can also share the code directly to Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, Microsoft Teams, Twitter or via email.

Unlike live quizzes, assigned quizzes allow students to work on their assignment at their own pace. Quizzes you can assign are those you created from scratch or those that are publicly available in Quizizz library. When you find the quiz you want to assign to students click on Assign homework then set a deadline if you want. Edit the settings to your preference and click on Assign.

How to create a class on Quizizz

Creating classes on Quizizz allows you to easily share games and quizzes with your students. You can either create a class from scratch or import existing classes from Google Classroom, Schoology or Canvas. To create a class from scratch follow these steps:

• Click on Classes from the left pane and select Create a class.
• Type in a name for your class
• Click on Create class
• Grab the generated link or code and share it with students
• Students visit quizizz.com/join/class, log in, and enter the class code.

How to create memes in Quizizz

Using memes to provide feedback to students is a great way to add an extra layer of interactivity and engagement to your quizzes and lessons. The process to create a meme on Quizizz is simple and easy:

• Login to your Quizizz account
• Click on More on the left pane and select Memes
• Click on Create a new meme
• Type in a name for your meme set and click on Done
• Click on create a correct meme and upload an image
• Add captions to your image and type in a name and click on Save.
• Repeat the same process to create an incorrect meme.

How to create a collection on Quizizz

You can use Collections to save and organize your quizzes and lessons. To create a collection:

• Click on More on the left pane and select Collections
• Click on Create a collection
• Type a name for your collection and choose whether you want to make it public or private
• Click on Create collection

Is Quizizz free?

while both Quizizz basic plan and Super plan support Live Quizzes and homework, they differ in student capacity per lesson/assignment. Basic allows only 100 students per lesson/assignment  The Super plan allows 500 students per lesson/assignment and offers way more features.

Using Quizizz In The Classroom

Quizizz is a popular online quiz platform that has been gaining popularity among teachers and students alike. It provides a fun and interactive way for teachers to assess students’ learning, before or after a lesson, and for students to review material before an exam. With its user-friendly interface and customizable features, Quizizz has become a go-to tool for many educators. Personally, I use Quizizz in most of my remote lessons as it makes class fun and gives students the chance to interact with their peers, even if it’s just during friendly competition. In this article, we will explore how it can be utilized effectively to enhance student learning.

Formative assessment

A no-brainer, Quizizz can be used as a formative assessment tool, allowing teachers to gauge students’ understanding of a particular topic or concept. From its platform you have access to reports and see which questions students struggle the most in order to give them constructive feedback. It can even tell you which question was the easiest or the hardest to answer.

Review and practice

Quizzes can be used as a review tool before a test or exam, or as a way for students to practice and reinforce their understanding of a topic. What’s more, you can assign quizzes as homework to reinforce any concepts you feel were not easily understood. 

Differentiation

Quizizz allows teachers to create different versions of a quiz, which can be used to differentiate instruction and provide personalized learning experiences for students. Furthermore, you can make different copies for different groups of students, depending on how well they understood the lesson.

Remote learning

Quizizz can be used to deliver assessments and quizzes remotely, making it a useful tool for distance learning or blended learning classrooms. It has definitely been one of my remote students’ favorite tool and the first benefit I found when the pandemic hit.

Collaboration

Quizizz also has a feature called “Live” which allows for students to take a quiz together in real-time, promoting collaboration and group learning. Be warned: fun chaos will ensue!

Student self-assessment

Quizizz has a self-grading feature which allows students to check their answers and receive feedback instantly. This can be a powerful tool for self-directed learning and helps students to identify their own areas of weakness.

This is a new way of using Quizizz when not all of your students have a computer or phone available. It works by downloading and printing a set of cards that work like QR codes. Students hold these cards up in a specific direction so you can scan the cards using the Quizizz app, enabling you to quickly and easily collect data on student understanding. This can help you quickly identify areas where students are struggling and adjust their instruction accordingly.

What is Quizizz? How Can Quizizz Be Used for Teaching?

Quizizz is an online assessment tool that makes quiz-based learning fun. It allows the teachers and students to create and use one another’s quizzes. Quizizz offers a simple yet powerful learning experience for teachers as well as students. It is widely popular in over half the schools in the U.S. as well as across 150 countries in total. There are other tools like Blooket , Kahoot & Quizlet etc which offers similar gamified learning platform. Let’s have a look at all details about Quizizz and how you can use it for teaching in your online class?

What is Quizizz?

In simple terms Quizizz is another platform for gamified learning which can turn quizzes into fun learning to engage students in deep and meaningful learning experiences. It is visually engaging, simple to use by anyone and works across a host of devices which makes it widely accessible.

Teachers create the quiz through web based platform and share the access code for students who do not need to sign up. You can create teacher-paced and student-paced quizzes and lessons with a wide variety of questions like multiple choice, open ended, polls, fill in the blanks, etc.

As a teacher you can present the quizzes in a time based or homework (for practice purposes). Students can review their answers after attempting the quiz. The teacher can then compile the students results into clear visuals to analyze trends in which areas students might need the most focus in the future. With a single click you can share these reports with parents to keep them in the know of their kids learning progress.

Getting start with Quizizz/How to use Quizizz?

To get started with Quizizz as a teacher, just go to https://Quizizz.com and hit ‘Sign up’ on top right. You can signup using your Mobile number or Google or Microsoft account.

• You will be notified with a prompt to choose where you are using Quizizz – Work, School or Personal Use. Once you finished the signup process, You are ready to rock.

• You can also configure the Question Marks, Question type (Reorder, Match, Fill in the Blanks, Draw, Open ended, Video Response, Audio response and Poll are the other options. At the bottom of the screen you can change the ANSWER type, Question duration and add Tags to the questions. Once done, click Save at the bottom left corner

• Use  Equation Editor to add math equations. You can also add images to questions
• When you are done, click on Save. Your quiz is now saved to your library.

How to share quizzes on Quizizz?

In order to share your quiz with other educators on Quizizz platform, you can follow these steps:

• After signing in, navigate to My Library from the left navigation.
• Select the quiz you want to share and click on Collaborate.
• Type in email addresses, ‘Click on the ‘Can View’ and ‘Can Edit’ options .
• Enable public access link if required
• Click Share.

How to find quizzes and lessons in Quizizz library?

As explained above, you can search for the already available quizzes and presentation from the top search bar. To import any quiz, follow these steps:

• Enter the topic to search the existing library.
• Filter your search using Quiz, Presentation, Grade (Elementary to University), Subjects, Languages, Number of Questions, etc.
• When you find the quiz or presentation you are interested in; click on Play to start a live quiz, assign it as homework, or to preview it.
• You can also add it to specific collections (we will discuss about collections lower down this article please continue reading), or copy and edit directly.

How to host a live quiz on Quizizz?

You can use Quizizz quizzes in two different modes – ‘ Play Live’ – when all students attempts the quiz simultaneously. In the play Live mode there are two modes – Students progress at their own pace and Instructor paced. Second – Homework – in which students take their time to work on them at their own pace. To host the quizizz live, follow the steps as below:

• Click on the quiz you want to host live.
• Classic mode – Students progress at their own pace and you see a leaderboard and live results.
• Instructor-paced mode – Control the pace so everyone advances through each question together.
• Click on Continue and copy the generated join code to share with students.
• Students can use any device to navigate to https://quizizz.com/join and enter the code to access the quiz.

How to create memes in Quizizz?

You can use Memes in Quizizz provide feedback to students which can add an interactive and engaging way of providing feedback to your students. Follow these steps to create Memes in Quizizz:

• After signing in, navigate to Memes from the left navigation.
• Click Create new Meme set.
• Type in a name for your meme set and click on Done
• Click on create a correct meme and upload an image. You can also search for images in the search bar to use as memes.
• Add captions to your image and type in a name and click on Save.
• Similarly you can add a meme for incorrect answer.

How to create a collection in Quizizz?

Collections in Quizizz to save and organize quizzes on different subjects, topics, levels etc. Follow these steps to create a collection:

• After signing in, navigate to Collections from the left navigation.
• Click Create a Collection
• Type a name and choose whether it will be Public or Private collection.
• Click Done.
• Add any quiz or presentation to the Collection.

Quizizz is a very simple to use online assessment tool. here are some of the best features of Quizizz:

• Really simple to use – the platform is really simple to get started and use. Teachers and students who are not versed with the technology can also use Quizizz without any problems.
• Assign individual quiz to students
• Turn the Leadership Board On/Off to keep your learners motivated.
• Email Parents through the app with a detailed report that shows how the student is performing.

Quizizz Offers different plans for Corporates, Individual Teachers and Schools & Districts. The plans for corporate sector starts from $25 per month per host. The premier plan is priced at $48 per month.

For teachers, it is free to get started but keeps its pricing structure quite hidden on its homepage. You can start with a free plan which can be upgraded to $10 per month plan ($96 Annually).

Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks for using Quizizz for online assessment:

• Parents Reporting – You can send the results to the parents to keep them informed about their kids progress.
• Use for formative assessment – You can use a quiz for assessing how students are grasping a task or subject area.
• ReUse already available quizzes and questions – Don’t spend too much time in creating new questions. Explore the huge library of already available questions and reuse them in your quizzes.

Is it good for learning?

Quizizz can be a fantastic, easy to use, engaging game based assessment and learning tool for your online course. It has all the abilities to keep your students engaged and have fun while learning. Teachers can opt to run quick quiz reviews or integrate quizzes into interactive lessons with instructional supports.

However, the introduction of paid pricing models and locking features behind the paid subscription can be a pain point for new teachers.
