Draft University Personal Statement

  • Have in mind that your personal statement is not an article. It should not talk about a subject. It should be about you.
  • You should tell only things that you are prepared to be discussed in the interview.
  • Give good reasons why you want to take up a particular course.
  • Your personal statement should be relevant to the course that you have chosen. Most especially if it is a competitive course.
  • Be clear in making your point. You can be reflective of the things that you want to say.
  • Be sure about your spelling and grammar. You should proofread your statement a couple of times. If you find it hard to correct your mistakes, you can get a friend to look over them for you. Get someone to correct your writing.
  • Have a space after each paragraph. Your writing should be readable. Readers will not want to read a statement that is not that readable.
  • Get feedback from others. You must show your statement to your friends and family and know what they think about it. Know their opinions so that you will know how you can make your statement better.

Don’ts

  • Do not make your statement in the form of a letter . You should not use “Dear Sir / Madam”. It will only make your statement weird.
  • You should not bring a joke. The statement is not the time for it. Save your joke for other times. Be serious in your statement. Your sincerity should be seen.
  • Do not criticize your former school. You should not defend yourself that way just because you have low grades. Be sure that you can speak well about the school where you have come from.
  • Do not be afraid to present details. It is better that the university will know more about you. In each paragraph, you can cite one or two examples that will explain your cause.
  • Do not just list what you like. You should be careful in explaining your experience to the university.
  • Do not tell your skills without explaining further and giving examples. The university should know well about your skills and all your activities that can be relevant to the course that you want to take.
  • Do not refer to experiences that are not relevant to the course.
  • Do not talk about your mental or health problems. They do not have to be in the personal statement. They can be placed in the reference.
  • Do not apply for different courses . The university has to see that you have one course in mind where you can define your objectives. This will mean that you are serious with the course. It will help you to convince them.
  • Do not make your personal statement tailored only to one university. Remember that you should make it universal to all the universities that you are considering to apply.

Step 1: Make a Plan

Dietetics Personal Statement Advice

A Dietetics personal statement is an essential part of your university application process and is probably the most important part in your UCAS application as well. Your Dietetics personal statement is a chance for you to convince your course leaders and the university admissions officer that you would be well-suited to studying the course at university and is also a chance for you to effectively geek out on your favourite subject. First things first for anyone looking to write a Dietetics personal statement, is to look at some previous Dietetics personal statement examples. These will give you an insight into the kinds of things that universities are looking for and the sort of things that you should be at great pains to include. You don’t need to be going overboard, especially when it comes to length, just make sure that everything you write is relevant and factual. Make sure you include everything that you have done that is related to Dietetics. This could be anything from work experience in the sector, any major life experiences related to Dietetics and your passion for the subject. Don't be afraid to mention a few things about yourself as well though! If you enjoy films, TV shows, rugby or anything else, be sure to mention them and if you can somehow link them back to Dietetics then that’s even better!
