I am a McMaster MBA 2016 candidate interested in the ‘Global Business Processes Graduate Programme’ at Novo Nordisk. My academic training in chemical technology, strategy and finance, as well as my experience in market research and strategy consulting, will enable me to make a positive contribution to this role at Novo Nordisk.

I enjoy dealing with complex business problems through my strong analytical thinking. While working at Global Research, one of my strategy projects was to help expand exports of Brazil’s pharmaceutical, and other SMEs. In March 2015, I won the McMaster Case Competition, where we had to develop an integrative strategy and implementation plan for King Therapeutics, a pharma company. Just as Novo Nordisk, I am also mindful of the social impact that I have. I currently advise AGI, which provides education and support to people affected by Alzheimer’s.

Driven by curiosity and a passion to learn, I see relentless learning opportunities at Novo Nordisk as it continues to be the vanguard in the fight against diabetes and other health problems such as obesity. The Novo Nordisk strategy to improve the global access to diabetes by tackling the five pillars of ‘Rule of Halves’, is commendable. This strategy and the Triple Bottom Line, are strong examples of the company’s commitment to ethics and social responsibility. Novo Nordisk provides a very attractive proposition for gaining invaluable learnings while working with cross-cultural teams, and contributing to the pharmaceutical industry. Our global graduate program is designed to accelerate your personal and professional development. We provide an international framework in which you will play an active role in co-creating your own tailor-made learning journey. Through your daily work, you will gain a deep understanding of your business areas and different company operations while growing a strong professional network across the organization.

Novozymes’ global graduate program is a two-year journey. The program includes several job rotations with at least one being international.

Global graduate program information

Two-year program Our two-year graduate program focuses on cultural and organizational inclusion through trust building and networking activities. As a graduate, you will experience both local and international rotations, complete specialized training and participate in global networking activities which, when combined, facilitates your tailor-made learning journey. In addition, you will get a mentor and receive coaching to support your personal and professional growth.

We take onboarding seriously. We want to ensure a smooth transition into Novozymes, allowing you to get up to speed quickly. You and your manager will closely align to ensure your onboarding plan fits your specific needs. As part of the process, you will be assigned a buddy – an informal go-to person and the first building block in your future global network.

Local and international rotations

As a graduate, you will be hired into a specific role that enables you to specialize in one overall area of our business. As part of the program, you will be exposed to various parts of our organization through rotations giving you an enterprise-wide understanding of Novozymes. You will get to co-create your own rotation plan in collaboration with your manager to have space for your individual aspirations and development goals.

Mentoring and coaching

As part of the graduate program we are able to offer you a specialized mentoring program where you will be matched with an experienced leader as your mentor. We believe that a mentorship can be key in supporting your personal and professional growth. Additionally, you will receive coaching to facilitate learning reflections throughout the program and help you identify your next career move at Novozymes after the two years.

Harvard Business School strategy certification 

We believe that on-the-job training is the most efficient way to learn. However we also know that we need to support your learning journey by adding new knowledge and insights to feed your interests and support your growth. Throughout the program, you will participate in three different strategy courses from Harvard Business School supporting your development of strategy execution skills. This will give you a certification of specialization in strategy.

Networking and collaboration

When you join as a graduate, you will have access to an international network from day one. All graduates starting the same year are part of an online community and will collaborate and network across countries and organizational areas. At least one time during the graduate program you will get to meet your fellow graduates in person.

Summer internships in North America

We offer a summer internship program that provides a wide range of opportunities for current college students in Engineering, Research and Development, Technical Service, Commercial and other functions.

Internships in India

We offer a lab internship for students who can work on projects full time for a period of six months. We hire lab interns based on vacancies throughout the year. Interns can be from bachelor, master, and PhD programs in Food Technology, Household Care or related fields.

We also offer a summer management internship where 6-10 interns are selected from MBA schools. The selection process takes place in the fall and the internship takes place in spring the following year. Management interns are secured assessment and interview for the coming selection process for Novozymes’ global graduate program.

Internships in China

We offer internships that run in a period from 3-6 months and can be either full or part-time. During an internship, you will be able to participate in a business area you are interested in such as Research and Development, Marketing, Sales, Quality, Productions, Finance, HR etc.

Elevprogrammer

Becoming a trainee in Novozymes can be an exciting way to kick-start your career. We have four types of trainees: process operator trainees, artisan apprentices, lab interns and administrative trainees. Each of the four trainee programs will give you a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience.

Lab interns and process operator trainees are usually hired twice a year, in February and September. Artisan apprentices are hired in as needed, and the number may vary from year to year. Administrative trainees are usually hired once a year in September. The length of the trainee program depends upon the specific trainee education. Trainee programs are full-time.

Som smedelærling oplever man en rigtig god frihed og prøver altid at problemløse selv, før jeg spørger en svend eller mester. Det er sjovt at løse opgaverne selvstændigt og få lov til at tale direkte med kunderne. Opgaverne spænder bredt fra vedligeholdelse af maskiner og at konstruere nye trygbærende rør til at lave små dimser til labs og bygge et ståltag.

Administrationselev, Walter:

Som administrationselev kommer jeg igennem flere forskellige opgaver indenfor det administrative fra små opgaver til større projekter. Jeg lærer både at arbejde med de små detaljer og holde det store overblik. Det er sjovt at få lov til at spænde så bredt i de forskellige opgaver. Jeg har hurtigt fundet arbejdsformen og lært at samarbejde med kollegaerne i afdelingen og på tværs af Novozymes. Hos Novozymes er der masser at lære, så elevtiden ikke bliver kedelig, og god frihed til at prøve forskellige områder i produktionen og selv prøve at løse de problemer, jeg møder - enten selv eller i samarbejde i kollegaer. Det ansvar synes jeg er super fedt. Jeg bliver hørt, hvis jeg har input eller forslag, og det gør at jeg tør sige min mening.

Man skal være god til at holde overblikket og planlægge men også omstille sig, hvis der opstår fejl.  Der er mange tekniske elementer, som kan være svære at lære, men der er kollegaer, der kan hjælpe og der sker hele tiden nyt - samtidig med der er tid til at lære. Som procesoperatør arbejder vi i holdskifte og for at det fungerer er samarbejdet vigtigt - vi er sammen dag, aften, nat og helligdage.

Som laborantpraktikant oplever jeg praktikken som en god blanding af teori og praksis. Jeg kan stille alle de spørgsmål, jeg har lyst til og der er dygtige kollegaer at spørge - både andre laboranter og kemikere. Jeg får mulighed for at lave fejl og lære af dem for at finde ud, hvordan jeg finder den bedste løsning. Heldigvis forventes det ikke, at jeg kan det hele på forhånd.

Elektrikerelev, Michelle

Det er dét, der er virkeligt godt ved at være elektrikerlærling hos Novozymes er, at du kommer hele vejen rundt og får en bred viden om alle de typer af opgaver, som en elektriker kan arbejde med. Du kommer til at lave både industriopgaver og at arbejde med boliginstallationer - den ene dag laver jeg el i nye kontorer, den næste laver jeg fejlfinding i vores produktion eller arbejder på de store motorer, der får fabrikken til at køre.

Jeg kan ikke rigtigt beskrive en typisk dag på jobbet, for vi laver virkelig mange forskellige ting. Det er det sjoveste; at prøve noget nyt og selv at finde løsningen på opgaven. Du får lov til at prøve tingene af selv, og kan også ønske at arbejde på bestemte opgaver, hvis der er noget særligt, der interesserer dig. Og så er det rart, at der altid er gode kolleger, jeg kan få hjælp af, når jeg har brug for det. Mine kolleger er søde, og vi har et godt sammenhold. Der er en god tone og altid nogen, som man kommer godt ud af det med.

DBI Case Competition

Doing Business In (DBI) is an annual study trip and case competition hosted by Novozymes, in partnership with Boston Consulting Group and Djøf.

The two-week trip takes place in the spring every year to one of our global sites. We will visit the local Novozymes site and meet with local companies to understand the business landscape in depth. The trip ends with a 24-hour case study on a challenge that Novozymes faces in the region. You will be asked to solve the case in groups.

Application deadline is in December for the trip the following year. Applicants are selected based on motivational letter, CV and grades. All students in Denmark, regardless of field of study, as well as Danish students abroad on a bachelor or master’s degree, are welcome to apply for the program. We will select up to 30 students every year depending on the destination. Detailed information on the application process can be found by clicking on "learn more".

DBI is a great entry-way to a career in Novozymes, with many former participants currently working within Novozymes in functions across Research and Development, Sales, Marketing and Finance. We offer the case competition in Denmark.

Novo scholarship program

For the past 20 years, Novozymes and Novo Nordisk have operated a joint venture initiative sponsoring the Novo Scholarship Program for master students at Danish universities. The program intends to support talents within natural science whereby the subject for the master project must support areas of interest for either Novozymes or Novo Nordisk.

The purpose of the program is to allow students to work full time on their master thesis, as they receive a monthly payment to cover necessary expenses. During the program, students are offered a mentor from either Novozymes or Novo Nordisk.

Students can apply for the program once a year. The application process takes place from October till November. We offer the Novo Scholarship Program in Denmark.

Recruitment Process

We screen and evaluate your CV, cover letter, and other documents. Selected candidates are then invited for an initial interview.

3. Interviews

The purpose of the initial interview is to get to know each other. We expect to get an understanding of your motivation behind applying for the job and your professional and personal qualifications.

For applicants invited to a second interview, we use various assessment tools to obtain a more detailed understanding of your competencies and thoroughly discuss the fit between the job, you, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation. We use a personality assessment profile, a cognitive test, and work-related case studies.

Afterward, you will receive feedback from a certified Business Partner regarding the results of the personality and the cognitive test. We will give you more information about the process in advance.

When you join US People & Organization (HR) Graduate Program at Novo Nordisk, you will contribute to a line of business that’s integral in supporting the people organization – fostering growth and development within the employee experience, driving engagement, and creating a diverse and inclusive culture.

You can work on enterprise HR projects in Novo Nordisk through a wide range of different and exciting roles and within several diverse teams and functions – but no matter what, you will work with people who all share the same commitment to excellence and to drive the continued success of Novo Nordisk.

The US People & Organization Graduate Program offers rotational opportunities across Novo Nordisk in areas such as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DEIB), Leadership Development, Talent Management, and Human Resource Operations. This US based program will include 3 rotations within two years, including one international rotation.

During the US People & Organization Graduate program, you will receive training and gain knowledge and invaluable international experience leading to both professional and personal development. You will develop core skills within different areas of HR. You will gain experience working as a fully-fledged member of the teams and receive leadership and teamwork training and development

Furthermore, you will work with senior managers and build an international network of world-class colleagues, establishing yourself as a future leader.

For the positions starting in September 2024, we were looking for candidates with:

  • A recent master’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field, for example within Human Resources & People Management, Leadership, Ethics, & Organizational Sustainability, Psychology
  • No more than 12-18 months post-graduate from program; 1-2 years of relevant work experience required at the time of application.
  • Above average academic achievements (Documented GPA of 3.5 or higher required)
  • Team-player attitude, excellent communication skills, high drive, and an eagerness to learn
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Legally authorized to work in the US

The Program

At Novo Nordisk, interns will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced industry professionals and gain valuable, hands-on, full-time work experience. For ten weeks, interns will be immersed in the environment of a global pharmaceutical company and contribute to the line of business by providing sustainable and meaningful project work. Our internship program also includes instructor led trainings, a leadership engagement series, and a guided mentorship program to offer professional and personal development.

In addition to individual department responsibilities, interns will also participate in the program’s capstone event, the Innovation in Action Case Competition. Assigned to cross-functional teams, interns will work closely to develop an innovative and comprehensive solution to a business problem currently facing Novo Nordisk. At the conclusion of the program, teams will present their findings to a board of top Novo Nordisk officials representing the various lines of business.

Program Start: June 3rd, 2024.

Program End: August 9th, 2024.

The Positions

Our program is suitable for many different levels of students from undergraduate to doctoral in various areas of study. To be considered as an applicant, students must be actively enrolled or a recent graduate at/from an accredited college or university. While our internship opportunities are dependent upon business need, we typically offer positions in all lines of business across the organization.
