Rob Wilco is the mild-mannered ad executive caretaker of Bucky and Satchel. Satchel is a sweet and naïve shar-pei-yellow-Lab cross, while Bucky is a Siamese with "cat-titude" to spare. Bucky and Satchel get along like, well, like cats and dogs. Like a beleaguered parent, Rob constantly must thwart Bucky's schemes and protect the unsuspecting Satchel. His pets' mischief continually disrupts his attempts to meet women. You try explaining to your date why your cat thinks he's a gangsta rapper and your dog is filming his ";crib" for MTV. Would anyone live with humans who behaved like this?
Bitingly funny with a wry sense of the absurdity of life with pets, Get Fuzzy appeals to everyone who has ever lived in a mixed-species household.
Blueprint for Disaster

Syndicated by United Feature Syndicate, Get Fuzzy appears in 250 newspapers, from the Los Angeles Times to the Detroit Free Press to the Philadelphia Enquirer . Darby Conley's first book, This Dog Is Not a Toy, sold more than 115,000 copies; his second book, Fuzzy Logic, more than 85,000.When he was a child, Darby Conley used to wonder what his beloved pooch was thinking. That curiosity led to his creation of the hilarious strip Get Fuzzy in 1999, which has rapidly become one of the most popular cartoons in newspaper syndication. Showcasing the relationship between Bucky, a temperamental cat with an attitude; the sweet and sensitive dog Satchel; and their mild-mannered human companion, Rob Wilco, Get Fuzzy has cornered the market on anthropomorphic antics. Anyone who finds animals both amazing and amusing will find this new Get Fuzzy collection one of the most bitingly funny books ever printed.

No one walks away from a Close to Home cartoon unscathed. John McPherson's lumpy characters and bizarre situations are tailor-made for gut-splitting laughs. And then there are the cartoons that leave readers shaking their heads, sputtering, "Oh my gosh" as a guilty smile passes across their faces. The Scourge of Vinyl Car Seats delivers what fans expect from McPherson: jokes about everything from parenting to dating to car repairs. McPherson takes his readers on a journey that's very Close to Home.

Fifteen-year-old Jeremy Duncan is the heart and soul of puberty. A typical teen, Jeremy is shy, self-absorbed, and bored. He loves hanging out and playing the guitar. He lives in the shadow of his older brother's perfect 4.0 grade-point-average, athletic talents, and flawless complexion. Jeremy's girlfriend, Sara, loves that she can get him to do anything for her. His best friends are Hector and Pierce, whom he's known for-almost-ever. His parents? Uncool baby boomers. (Unless you're a parent, then they are two suburban professionals just trying to do the best they can with a teenager going through that "awkward" phase.) The enormously popular comic strip Zits depicts teenage and parental angst like no other. Teenage Tales is a cornucopia of Zits for die-hard fans everywhere. Zits can be seen in more than 1,100 newspapers, which is almost unheard of—only 18 other comic strips have achieved that extraordinary milestone. Zits has also won the National Cartoonists Society's Best Comic Strip of the Year award for two years in a row.

Middle-grade readers everywhere love the shenanigans and wisecracks of the bestselling Big Nate series. Now they can create comics of their own, just like Nate! In this free printable make-your-own-comic activity, Nate and his squad of sixth-grade pranksters break down comic-creation into easy steps. They open up a world of artistic possibility for fans of the beloved strip. As they work, encourage middle-graders to focus critically on their personal writing and drawing processes. You may be inspiring a future cartoonist!
With this activity, students will be encouraged to think about comics as an art form. Doing so will help them learn how to use this time-honored medium to express their own stories. If aspiring artists have trouble thinking of new ideas, there’s plenty of inspiration to draw from the chaotic fun of Nate’s daily routine. H e’s always battling against overzealous teachers, protesting unfair wedgies, and trying to set the all-time record for detentions in a single school year . Implementing this Big Nate activity in the classroom or at home is easy.
First, download the free printable make-your-own-comic template. Then, guide your students through imagining, drawing, and writing their own version of a Big Nate cartoon strip. Show them as many examples of Big Nate comics as you want to get their brains in gear. Creating a comic strip is a great exercise on its own, but pairing it with any of the classic Big Nate stories takes engagement and enjoyment to the next level.

In a way, I wish these books were harder to read. You sit down and twenty seconds later, you're done and now you have a long wait until the next one. Fortunately they are just as good the second time round, and kids enjoy the Big Nate books over and over. They are hard to keep in the library, but that's a good thing, isn't it.
Classic Big Nate! If you've liked earlier titles in this long-lived series then you'll love the gentle humor of this latest volume.
As a librarian I love Big Nate. As a parent I love Big Nate, why? Because it gets my kids reading and I always have something funny to recommend at the library. I giggled my way through the Gerbil Ate My Homework. The humor is great for middle schoolers and parents alike. Peirce gets kids in ways other authors don't. I know any book he writes will be a hit at work.
Super funny book, I was laughing several times. One thing I’m picky about is the constant elements that are just brought back from the previous books. Nevertheless Totally recommend!
Another fabulous Big Nate book! These are fun and so engaging, kids of all ages enjoy reading them or being read to. I read this one in one sitting. It’s a collection of comics throughout moments of Nate’s life at school and at home. It also delves into summer vacation.
My son loves the Big Nate books, so I thought he would enjoy reading this. I was excited to see that it was a "Read Now" book! He read it on the computer and laughed out loud several times. Review from a nine-year-old: "I loved this book. It was so funny. I especially liked the strips where Nate put fire ants in Mr. Staples's pants, DeeDee pushes Nate out of the way to get a shot in front of the news camera, and where Nate Golfs with Arthur." This series is a winner!
Another witty, silly edition of Big Nate comics. Sixth grade is a hard time for anyone and Nate is no exception. He has to deal with relationship drama, detention, and of course, homework trouble. Pierce Briggs his usual wit and humour to this newest volume of Big Nate.
Out of Calvin? Try Nate When I first came across the earlier Nate books I thought they were fun enough, but not especially clever or insightful. Basically just school daze silliness and some typical recycled stuff. Well, one of us has grown up; or maybe both of us have. These books still aren't "edgy", but there are more and more pointed individual strips and story arcs in each collection, with this latest volume being a good example. Sure, there is a passing bit about the school gerbil, but there are fine story arcs covering jealousy, friendship, May/December romances, (i.e. sixth grade and seventh grade), and a surprising range of adult foibles. All of your favorite characters make appearances, and they too seem have grown up. Often they are the ones to deliver the punchlines after Nate has set up the gag. So, it's always nice to see a new Nate on the shelf, and it's great that they seem to be getting better and better. (Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)
Big Nate comes through with the laughs again. There were giggles from page 1 and I will recommend this to all my Big Nate and graphic novel loving patrons!
Another great story in the Big Nate collection! My children a year ago got into these stories and I thought oh sure why not! I did not think I'd find myself sitting and laughing along with them at the antics! The latest: The Gerbil Ate My Homework is no different. My 9 year old is on round two of reading - listening to her laugh as she does makes this easily a 5-star read.
My 8 year old loves Big Nate books! As with others he has read, this one had him hooked and he couldn't stop reading. Why he loved it? My son adores graphic novels that are humorous, somewhat relatable and that he can share favourite parts with his two siblings (my ten year old daughter also enjoyed this). Big Nate is a classic and great for kids, teens and adults alike. I would also include this book in my middle school classroom library and know it would be a hit!
Big Nate: the Gerbil Ate My Homework by Lincoln Peirce With schools closed for the pandemic, I’ve been getting more and more ebooks for my 7-year-old to read. She was talking over the fence with her 8-year-old neighbor about books and he recommended the Big Nate series. She’s been enjoying them, and when I saw this new book on NetGalley, she said she’d write an review if I got it for her. Here it is: “The Big Nate book series is about a boy name Nate who gets in a bunch of trouble and doesn’t have the best grades and doesn’t really like his teachers and he goes to beaches and he goes to school and sometimes in the panels he is just sitting with a water bottle. There are almost 50 Big Nate books and I don’t think that they get any worse throughout the whole series if anything they get really good because it has Big Nate doing mischief with his teachers or playing pranks on his friends but it’s always interesting. The one other thing that I don’t really like is that Big Nate isn’t very nice to his friends and family or his teachers people he gets bullied a lot but he also is mean to other people.” From what I’ve read, it seems a little less crass than the Captain Underpants books, but it hits the same vibe. I will note that I didn’t love all of the language. On one page, a character called something “lame”, which is an ableist word that I would rather my children not be exposed to.
Another wonderful Nate adventure. My two sons love these books, and they are 8 and 10. More hijinx and laughter ensues. I never think that they can come up with more storylines, but they always do. Nate and his friends are very lovable, and the addition of gerbils makes it even more adorable for kids.
This is the first time I have to 'create' a book in Goodreads because I got an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and could not find the book to add my reviews too. Nate got himself in quite a difficult situation where he decided to date older student however as DeeDee said 'trouble in paradise' and he breaks up with her. I'd feel bad about break up but the fact that Trudy was never a good fit except, this is Nate we are talking about and he just bounces back to normal in no time.
As soon as I saw the book I requested it and fortunately my request was approved. I have always been a big fan of the author and his books. His writing style is quite easy to grasp and kids of any age can read it. If you want your kids to get into reading, give them his books. These are fun and so engaging.I read this one in one sitting. It’s a collection of comics throughout moments of Nate’s life at school and at home. **Thankyou Netgalley and publisher for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review*
Big Nate books are a staple for kids! My kids have been reading and loving them for years. I finally sat down & read one and it did not disappoint. Lincoln Pierce shares a great sense of humor in this comic book type of book.. Helping kids survive school is a must and this kind of book helps meet that need. In this book, Nate, the main character gets help from his furry friend, the gerbil, in keeping him out of trouble with his teacher. It really is done with a lot of humor but helps kids relate at the same time! I appreciate the opportunity the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Net Galley gave me to read this advance copy of the book. This is my total and unbiased opinion. Great book for kids (and adults) to read!!
Another great addition to the Big Nate series! This is one of my son’s favorites and I have enjoyed discovering the series on his recommendation. This graphic novel had the same humor that I expect from a Big Nate book and I am sure that fans of the series will be happy to have more Nate and friends antics to follow. This seemed to be shorter than some of the other graphic novels, but it may have been that I was excited for a new story (along with my son) and raced through it quicker than normal. While this isn’t the type of story I usually read, I am glad to have something to bond over with my child that he is so passionate about!
Done being a good boy at school? Wanna get naughty this autumn? Get on board. The best-selling Big Nate is back with witty ways to make you learn some new mischief tricks. This kid with strange hair is all you want to get your school life more colourful. He is not a child who has his nose buried in books (social studies feels like vertigo to him!😆). And surely you don't expect him to always listen to his teachers, do you? And don't you go on and mention homework to him. And getting good grades? What, he is content with his Cs. Well, how about dating? 😏 He'll try that one. Big Nate is all about junior high school drama: 1. Girlfriend or friends (Pick one🙄) 2. The oh-I-forgot-to-do-homework moment 3. Break-ups💔, post break-up💥, rebounds😍 4. Detentions 5. Pranks.....and much more!! You'll get to meet all the characters of your school- . the troublemaker. Check. . the dorky kid. Check. . the study nerds. Check. . the players. Check . the grumpy teacher. Check. . the new kid. Check. Wanna meet more of them? Well, just add Big Nate: The Gerbil Ate My Homework to your wishlist and get hold of the book this September!!
For one my son LOVES this series. Big Nate is one of the few books to keep him interested. We ended up reading this together and he really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed reading this book and getting a taste of why all the kids that come into the library always rave about with the Big Nate series. While I wish that these books were a little more of a challenge to read I can appreciate having a fun, purely entertaining read that children can come back to time and time again and not be bored. It shouldn't always be about challenging kids to read sometimes it should just be about getting them to read something, anything and enjoy it. Big Nate: The Gerbil at my Homework as well as the rest of the Big Nate series will do just that; entertain and help children enjoy reading.
I read this with my 10 year old. He enjoys graphic novels more than standard novels. We loved the introduction of the new character, Dee Dee. It was a great way to refresh the series. We loved that she was dramatic and wanted to be an actor and thought she was a good friend for Nate. Nate always hates his teacher and we thought it was funny to hear all the pranks he pulled on her. We plan on adding this to our Big Nate library when it comes out as they are enjoyable for my son to read who also enjoys drawing. Thank you for the advanced copy, NetGalley.
I am a middle school teacher and this is my first Big Nate book. (I know, I know.) But now, I understand the hype of my students!! This book was humorous, and the plot was fun. As a teacher, I am always appreciative of Big Nate books, and this one does not disappoint! A truly enjoyable read.
Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review Big Nate is back! With more pranks, excuses and more fun! I loved reading this, it gave me such a nostalgic feel for some reason. It was a super quick read and I enjoyed it so much. The srt style is very easily readable which makes it very fun and keeps you going. The dialogue is very basic since it's a comic aimed at younger viewers and all the textbubbles are nicely readable so you don't have to guess what anything says. I loved this very much!
This book is hilarious! Having worked with middle schoolers, this is a completely accurate depiction of how they interact, and demonstrates the issues that are important to them, (many of which are hard for adults to appreciate). Nate, himself is a typical middle schooler, who loves to challenge authority but does so in an adorable and engaging way that teachers and administrators find palatable. He also brings attention to the art of the comic strip - which is important at a time when many adults are understanding the power of graphic novels.
In the tradition of Calvin & Hobbes, Lincoln Peirce captures the trauma and drama of middle school. Nate is, as always, relatable and just sarcastic enough. Nate never disappoints and this one is laugh out loud funny. My son can't get enough of Nate's antics. Thank you Net Galley for the advance copy!
Full disclosure: I request the Big Nate titles from Netgalley because my 11 year-old really enjoys them. To me, they're inoffensive in the same vein as the classic Snoopy comic books. I read them, and they're pleasant, but they don't really resonate with me. That said, I am not the demographic for these comics. Here's a conversation I had with said 11 year-old about this latest Big Nate offering: Me: So what did you think? E: I really enjoyed it. I think Big Nate is funny. Me: What did you like best? E: I liked that it took place during an entire school year, and that a gerbil was involved. Me: Was there anything else you really liked? E: There was a part about mini-golf that was pretty good. When is the next one coming out? And there you have it! Thumbs up from this household! Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.
My son (age 8) loves the "Big Nate" series! He recently started reading them and is completely hooked. This is another great addition to the series. Clever storyline and laugh-out-loud illustrations.
This was another really great Big Nate book! I always love these. They are so quick and easy to read and so enjoyable every time. I am so glad I picked this up!
My sons are big fans of Big Nate and they eagerly flipped through The Gerbil Ate my Homework. My sons are 6 and 8 and love to read. My six year old, especially, enjoys the fast pace and humor of Big Nate books. He feels like he's accomplished something by reading the entire book and he laughs the entire time. My eight year old frequently turns homework in late, so now he's wishing he had a gerbil to feed it to for the excuse!! I read over their shoulders and love the brightness and simplicity of the artwork. The story is quick and entertaining and now one is ever bored. Highly recommend!
I buy every Big Nate out there for my school library (and I did for my classroom library before), and this title is no different. Nate stories are just so much fun and well done!
The Big Nate series are a big hit with the grade level I teach (4/5). The kids find them funny, they enjoy the pictures, and they are a perfect reading level even for some of my lower readers. My 11 year old daughter read this advanced reader copy and she shared with me her thoughts. She thought The Gerbil Ate My Homework was hilarious, and she will continue to read new books in this series that come out. They are a quick read for her, but she very much enjoys them!
This was adorable. This is a comic strip of a boy Nate and his misadventures in the sixth grade. It was funny and serious all at the same. time. Nate is a classic underachiever and sometimes he says some profound things. It is interesting to see how the relationships of middle schoolers play out in a comic book. This is enjoyable for all ages.
Great! Another fun adventure for Nate. My son loves all of these and this one we read together. We always anticipate great stories with Nate!!!
Full disclosure I got this for my cousin's kid to read, and he adored this story. He loved the artwork as per usual and was especially happy that the gerbil was involved. I quickly went through the book, and thought the parts that I read were comical, definitely veering towards kids as the target audience. So I am going to give it 5 stars from the lovely nephew of mine who read and enjoyed it.
It was fun to see that it was set throughout the entire school year and gerbil was involved. I just got this book because the cover enticed me, and it was a fun read and it reads like a Snoopy story. Quick and fun, would obviously be more inclined to kids.
Another great book about the mischievous Nate, who - obviously - gets into just as many scrapes as always.
This book was received as an ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own. I can see why the Big Nate series is very popular. Every time I read a new Big Nate Graphic Novel my stomach hurts from laughing to hard. The words he says and how he treats his teachers reminds me a lot of a more free spirited Young Sheldon and now Nate feeds the class gerbil his homework and when his least favorite teacher Mrs. Godfrey questions him, he stops at nothing to come up with the best excuses to not only get away with not doing his assignment but to maintain his reputation as the class clown and world class prankster. Just like the other books in the series, our young readers will enjoy this book and can't wait until it is released. We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
A funny and ornery Nate in the life of a 6th grader. A comical layout that is comical in contend. A short spiel on the actual gerbil and I was beginning to wonder if there was gerbil. But forget about the gerbil, I forgot what drama there is in 6th grade. You have your favorite teachers and then you have those that know your number. You have the boy that seems to have it all and then you have Nate. Nate is prankster so if you don't want your sixth grader getting any ideals, you might want to read this one so you have your sixth grader's number! A Special Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This was another great collection of comics by Lincoln Pierce. Big Nate is always entertaining and loved by all ages
I received a digital copy of this book from netgalley for an honest review. I read this to my 8 year old and she liked the story but she didn't love it. I on the other hand thought it was funny and cute. There were a couple things in the book that seem a little too old for her to understand. For example Twitter was mentioned and she has no idea what that is.
Awesome, classic Big Nate book! I loved the storyline and humor, it had me laughing out loud! Would recommend for grades 4-8.
This was really fun and a silly read. I really enjoyed it. I liked the different types of stories and the comic style.
Another winner! My son read this book in one sitting, he enjoyed it tremendously. The only problem is that he gets through it too quickly and it seems like forever for the next release. I'm a huge advocate for inspiring children to read, especially boys since they seem to be the hardest group to inspire to be avid readers. A great graphic comic for young and old. And you can't beat the sounds of giggles from your kiddo while reading a book he doesn't want to put down. Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advance reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An entertaining read that reminds me a little bit of Peanuts, definitely fitting for the target audience of Middle Schoolers; and I wouldn't mind picking up another one of these in the future.
My 7 year old son LOVED this book. We read it together. He said our library should definitely buy it and that it's better than all the rest of the Big Nate books. "It's always just so funny," he told me. I'm concerned about the use of the word lame throughout the book. It is ableist language, so my son and I discussed it.
This is the best Big Nate book in the series! I thought it was really funny! I couldn't believe how many Twitter followers the principal's had! This was a fun read and a great addition to an already fantastic series.
Nate has a lot of problems. He is dating an older girl and feels conflicted. And then their is is nemesis, Mrs. Godfrey! She definitely is not buying the accident story about homework and the classroom gerbil. And can you imagine Chad as a movie star? So if you want to find out what really happened, just pick up The Gerbil Ate My Homework and find out! Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to enjoy this title!
This is one of my favorite big nate books so far. I love all of the books in the Big Nate series, they are fun to read and great for long car rides or times when you have to wait for anything to happen. This one had me laughing quite a bit.
More fun stories from Big Nate. He breaks up with his seventh grade girlfriend in order to spend more time with his friends. And even though he's still in school, at least his favorite teacher is back. We get to see Nate make a film with Gina and Chad and there is more time spent with Dee Dee (who I am really enjoying as a character and am glad to see more of.) Four stars This book comes out September 1st ARC kindly provided by Andrew McMeel Publishing and NetGalley Also downloaded from library Opinions are my own
