Spring Break Packets For Elementary

We all know how important it is for our students to get a break from school. To relax and take their mind off of it and just enjoy being kids. Spring break is a great time to do this!

As important as the downtime is, it wouldn’t hurt for students to also get a little practice with those skills we’ve been working so hard on in class. In fact, parents are often asking for something for their children to work on while they’re out of school.

spring break packets pin image

Naturally, with any break from school, there is a degree of regression. Studies actually show that students are more likely to score lower on tests after being on break than they are during school.

Assigning light but engaging activities during spring break can be the perfect way to keep their brains active while not in school and prevent that learning regression as much as possible.

The key is to assign work that is engaging and will get your students thinking, but won’t take up too much of their time.

When I was in the classroom, I would let the students know that it’s not mandatory, but if they complete it, they will get some sort of reward or prize when they return it to school. This could be a homework pass, treat, pizza party, or something similar.

I created Spring Break Packets for each elementary grade to help make it easy for you!

These packets have a spring theme to make it fun for students. You can buy them as a bundle or individually for the grade you need! No prep required, just print these out and go!

Seasonal and Holiday Homework Passes

July 21, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

I don’t know about your class, but my students always love getting homework passes. I hand them out for every major holiday and use them an incentive.  I generally allow them to use homework passes for 1 assignment, to buy them an extra day for when a project or their AR points are due.  Last year I would forget to make a homework pass or find one online and then I had to make some really quickly and they were not cute or worded the way I wanted them.

The Magic of a Homework Pass for Classroom Management

Middle school classroom management requires a teacher to have many different strategies at their fingertips. Add the homework pass strategy to your classroom management plan to help engage and reward students from the 2 Peas and a Dog blog.

I surprised all of them this morning with a HAPPY NEW YEAR homework pass. I rarely hand out paper homework passes because I am trying to cut down on my class’ paper consumption. This year students have received only three paper homework passes Welcome Back, Birthday and Happy New Year.

Students get so excited when they get a homework pass. The majority of my students do not use them. They like to collect them throughout the year to see how many they can collect and not use. I taught some of my current students last year in my 7/8 split. They asked me on the first day of school if their homework passes carry over.

Do you use homework passes in your classroom? What is your procedure? Please share your ideas in the comments section below.  Try reward passes in your classroom. Find this resource on Shopify CAD and Teachers Pay Teachers USD .

K-Hope you are feeling better soon! I love the idea for the passes! I don't do this because I expect homework to be done and I give students plenty of time to get it finished and handed in on time. I do use something similar to you though..I stopped having a prize box this year and I have a set of cards…I got the idea from PINTEREST..and I laminated them. Things like, Special Supply Box, Specialty Seating, Wear a Hat in Class, Wear your IPOD in class. The kids LOVE it. I keep track of them in a method similar to yours…but I do hand out the pass…the kids love picking one out and then they have to submit it when they want to redeem it. I guess I don't worry too much because I laminated them, so they will get used again and again. This has motivated my students much more than the regular "pull something out of the prize box" and it has cost me next to nothing! Get better soon!

Penn State Capped Spring Practice at the Blue-White Game. Here's What We Learned

The Nittany Lions didn't reveal much during their spring game. But we picked up a few insights.

  • Author: Mark Wogenrich

In this story:

After the Blue-White Game on Saturday, Penn State football coach James Franklin grabbed a sousaphone for a photo opportunity with members of the Blue Band. He smiled wide and looked to be having fun but knew better than to get too technical. Sort of like the game he just coached.

The Nittany Lions smiled wide and looked to be having fun during the annual spring scrimmage at Beaver Stadium but didn’t get too technical with their game. As receiver Kaden Saunders said, Penn State showed maybe 5 percent of the offense it hopes to turn loose in the season-opener at West Virginia. This was show more than game, yet fans still could piece together some conclusions about the direction of Penn State football from their 100 minutes at Beaver Stadium.

So here’s a look at what we saw, what we didn’t see, and where Penn State’s headed after the 2024 Blue-White Game.

James Franklin getting in with the band … pic.twitter.com/IRqtlwbHK3 — Frank Bodani (@YDRPennState) April 13, 2024

First, who we didn’t see

A bunch of returning and projected starters weren’t in uniform for the game. Some were more notable than others. Receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith’s absence, and Franklin’s deflected answer after the game, suggest both parties have agreed to move on. Lambert-Smith was Penn State’s most experienced returning receiver (with 37 career starts and a team-high 53 catches last season) but disappeared late last season, coinciding with offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich’s departure. Lambert-Smith’s portal announcement seems forthcoming.

Elsewhere on offense, running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen didn’t play after sustaining “bumps and bruises” to differing degrees. Allen’s spring injury sounded more of an issue (though not a long-term issue, Franklin said), and both backs ceded the spring game to the young backs. And the starting offensive line was impossible to gauge, as four potential starters (tackles Drew Shelton and Anthony Donkoh and guards Sal Wormley and JB Nelson ) sat out, with Shelton out for all of spring drills. Tight end Tyler Warren ceded his spring-game routes to young teammates as well.

Defensively, tackles Coziah Izzard and Hakeem Beamon were given the day off, while starting safety KJ Winston was not in uniform. Neither was redshirt sophomore linebacker Keon Wylie .

What we didn’t see

Andy Kotelnicki kept his offense in the office. The Lions showed none of those motions, shifts and formations which quarterback Drew Allar has been so enthralled. After last year’s dull stretches on offense, and the promise with which Kotelnicki arrived, Penn State had a chance to generate some electricity with a little offensive unveil. Not surprising that Franklin would go in his usual direction, though, and keep things plain.

And inside that “vanilla” offensive look, as Allar termed it, the quarterback didn’t throw a pass to new receiver Julian Fleming . The two were on opposite rosters, and Fleming caught one pass for five yards from Beau Priubula . Fleming has won praise for making an off-field impact, but can he stand out on the field next season?

What stood out during the Blue-White Game

Allar didn’t paint Beaver Stadium with brilliant numbers (15-for-32, 202 yards) but he threw the ball quite well in windy conditions. In particular, Allar threw a pair of undervalued passes on end-zone fades, one of which wasn’t caught and another that was well-defended. Allar also sounded more confident, declaring his command and comfort with the offense.

“This offense is a really good fit for not only me,” Allar said. “We’re going to run stuff the receivers like, the quarterbacks like, the tight ends like, the running backs like.”

Pribula played with both rosters but still seemed to be a package player. He had a couple nice runs, one for 17 yards, but didn’t advance the passing game much. True freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer demonstrated a quick release on some throws and will look to season that over the summer.

Receiver Harrison Wallace III , who made just 15 catches in seven games last season before returning from injury in the Peach Bowl, was pretty dynamic. He caught five passes for 72 yards, was targeted seven times, and appeared to be Allar’s favorite.

Former Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson was renowned for his crazy quick first step off the line. His replacement, Abdul Carter , might be even faster. Carter leaped into a few backfields untouched (albeit against depth-chart tackles and static snap counts), and teammate Amin Vanover compared Carter’s get-off quite favorably to Robinson’s.

Speaking of Vanover, Franklin went out of his way to praise the defensive end for his production this spring. Vanover is a senior at a high-value position in Penn State’s defense. A big year could launch Vanover’s career arc like Adisa Isaac last season. Elsewhere at defensive end, it was good to see Smith Vilbert back on the field after missing the 2023 season.

Penn State really likes freshman lineman Cooper Cousins . He started at right guard (in Wormley's absence) and played some center behind projected starter Nick Dawkins . Franklin rarely gives freshmen offensive linemen the green light (unless necessary) but Cousins quickly has made a play for playing time.

The Nittany Lions have some promising tight ends, notably Andrew Rappleyea . The 6-4 redshirt freshman was targeted eight times, caught three passes (one for a touchdown) and looked comfortable in Warren's absence.

Redshirt freshman kicker Ryan Barker took all five kickoffs (Penn State didn’t play special teams) and both field-goal attempts, including one in a designed 2-minute drill. He appears to have the lead over returning kicker Sander Sahaydak and Tulsa transfer Chase Meyer .

What’s the true takeaway of the Blue-White Game? Consider this sequence in the second half. Walk-on cornerback Kolin Dinkins intercepted Pribula in the second half, taking it to the end zone for a pick-6. However, Franklin quickly Pribula as down, having been “sacked” by redshirt freshman linebacker Winston Yates . Two plays later, running back Quinton Martin Jr. scored on a 12-yard touchdown run.

The Earth revolves around the Sun and has an inclined axis, which is why at different periods of the year the planet is tilted towards the star by different hemispheres. This leads to the fact that one hemisphere receives more light and heat, and the other less.

During the equinoxes, the center of the sun in apparent motion along the ecliptic crosses the celestial equator. This means that the northern and southern hemispheres receive the same amount of light and the day is approximately equal to the night.

On the days of the solstices, the sun has the greatest declination to the north or south relative to the earth's equator. Accordingly, on the ecliptic, the sun falls at the highest or lowest point. You can find more detailed characteristics of these astronomical phenomena below.

  • tabsAstronomical seasons

Spring equinox 2024 (beginning of astronomical spring)

On the day of the spring (March) equinox, the sun crosses the celestial equator, moving along the ecliptic. On this date, the day is equal in length to the night. It is worth saying that the duration of the daylight hours is still longer than the night due to the refraction of the atmosphere, which “raises” the sun above the horizon.

In the northern hemisphere of the Earth, the sun moves from the southern to the northern hemisphere of the celestial sphere. In the southern hemisphere, on the contrary, from the northern to the southern. After the vernal equinox, the length of night continues to shorten and daylight hours increase until the summer solstice arrives.

In different time zones, the date of the equinox may differ by a day, so it is important to indicate your exact location. Elektrostal the exact moment of the vernal equinox in 2024 is 20 march , at 06:06:03 .

Summer solstice 2024 (beginning of astronomical summer)

On the day of the summer (June) solstice, the solar disk, moving along the ecliptic, will fall into its northernmost point and will be located at the maximum distance north of the celestial equator. On this day, the height of the sun in the sky is the highest. The maximum length of daylight hours and the shortest night of the year. For the southern hemisphere of the Earth, the opposite is true.

In different time zones, the date of the solstice can differ by a day, so it is important to indicate your exact location. Elektrostal the exact moment of the summer solstice in 2024 is 20 june , at 23:50:20 .

Autumn equinox 2024 (beginning of astronomical autumn)

On the day of the autumn (September) equinox, the sun, moving along the ecliptic, crosses the celestial equator, moving from the northern hemisphere to the southern. This refers to the northern hemisphere of the Earth. In the south, on the contrary - from the southern hemisphere of the celestial sphere to the northern.

After this astronomical event, the night gets longer and the day gets shorter until the winter solstice arrives. This applies only to the northern hemisphere of the Earth. On the very date of the equinox - the day is equal to the night.

In different time zones, the date of the equinox may differ by a day, so it is important to indicate your exact location. Elektrostal the exact moment of the autumnal equinox in 2024 is 22 september , at 15:43:12 .

Winter Solstice 2024 (beginning of astronomical winter)

On the day of the winter (December) solstice, the sun passes through the southernmost point of the ecliptic, that is, as far as possible from the celestial equator to the south (for the northern hemisphere of the Earth). After this date, daylight hours slowly increase until the vernal equinox.

In different time zones, the date of the solstice can differ by a day, so it is important to indicate your exact location. Elektrostal The exact moment of the winter solstice in 2024 is 21 december , at 12:20:30 .

Hudson Card's backup and more: What to watch for during Purdue football's spring game

spring homework passes

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue football's spring game is noon Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Head coach Ryan Walters enters his second season coming off a 4-8 mark in 2023.

There was no official spring game last season, rather a simulated indoor scrimmage to close the spring season.

Now the Boilermakers have the depth to operate a game , though the format won't include punting and kicking. Rather, the NCAA punt average will determine where the ball is spotted on would-be punts and after scoring plays, the ball will be placed at the 25 yard line to start the following series.

The first team offense will go head-to-head with the first team defense. Then second teams will follow. Rather than risk injury, plays that a short yardage to gain a first down or touchdown will be automatically ruled a first down or TD.

Here are five things to watch for during Purdue's spring game on Saturday.

Transfer portal pickups

Purdue was heavy in the transfer portal during the offseason and was among college football's best in terms of pickups via the portal.

What to know: Transfer portal additions at cornerback seek to balance Purdue football's defense

Several have an opportunity to play right away, including a foursome of former Georgia Bulldogs: defensive back Nyland Green, defensive end CJ Madden, and receivers De'Nylon Morrissette and CJ Smith. Defensive end Shitta Sillah from Boston College was a name Walters mentioned early in spring camp and expect former Illinois running back Reggie Love III to be a complement to Devin Mockobee.

Offensive line depth

One of the reasons Purdue couldn't put on a true spring game last year was the lack of depth, especially up front.

The Boilermakers not only made it a point to upgrade the size and talent, but also the number of players available up front after Purdue basically patched together five players on game days late last season without being able to run 11-on-11 during the practice week.

From sheer size, you'll notice junior college transfer Jaekwon Bouldin. He's 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds.

Two guys who bring a lot of experience to keep an eye on, former New Mexico State lineman DJ Wingfield and former Ball State standout tackle Corey Stewart. Rod Green, a junior college transfer, is an interesting name to know.

Hudson Card is the guy for the first team unit. And while we wait for the second unit to take the field, note how much better Card looks when healthy.

But as of Thursday, offensive coordinator Graham Harrell was unsure who would start with the second team. True freshman Marcos Davila looks like he could be the future, but for current team's purposes, I'd look for Ryan Browne and Bennett Meredith to battle for that role. The two split reps last season at Northwestern when Card was out due to injury.

Secondary look

Purdue was limited in the secondary last season, especially after a key injury to Marquis Wilson and with Stanford transfer Salim Turner-Muhammad never seeing the field.

Markevious Brown is a returning starter and Anthony Brown played in 12 games, while Derrick Rogers and Botros Alisandro got some run at corner, but Purdue needed more. The Boilermakers nabbed Green, as well as Colorado's Kyndrich Breedlove, from the portal.

Walters made his name as a defensive coordinator with not only talented players in the secondary, but by being able to confuse quarterbacks with multiple looks and pass rushes.

Last season, Nic Scourton and Kydran Jenkins were Purdue's Bebop and Rocksteady (a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reference). Scourton took advantage of his breakout season, cashing in and going to Texas A&M. Jenkins returned, but is transitioning to inside linebacker, which is his perceived position at the next level.

So who takes over those duties of putting quarterbacks under fire?

Sillah is a name to know, as mentioned earlier. But did Purdue get a transfer portal steal in Division III All-American Jireh Ojata from Franklin College? Will Heldt was ultimately a guy Purdue had to get on the field last season as a true freshman.
