PowerPoint: Automatically move to next slide after animation ends
As a basic presentation tool, PowerPoint is great and used correctly, the animation features can create some decent flows but I’ve always been frustrated by the fact that you cannot set individual slides to get to the end of their animations and automatically move to the next slide.
There’s a bunch of suggestions out there such as using Rehearsal timing (doesn’t really work outside of rehearsal timing) or using macros which require coding knowledge and trigger all sorts of security warnings (not great for files that are often emailed outside of organisations).
The Solution (sort of)
I found a solution that works for my use-case which is for animated ‘exit transitions’ (where elements on a title page animate in, then animate out on another slide) and that is simply to use the Advanced Slide After: xx:xx.xx option on the transitions tab for each slide.
Let’s take a slide from a presentation for my cyber security company Seguro , I have the following as a title slide which nicely animates the title IN as soon as the slide loads:

When I’m presenting, I want to stand there and say “Now I’ll talk about attacking passwords” then click next, at this stage I want the following slide to load, show the exit animation and then MOVE AUTOMATICALLY TO THE NEXT SLIDE:

The problem is there is not simple step I can chain to the end of the exit animations to say “Now move to the next slide” (MIcrosoft, if you’re listening please add this feature). If I leave this as it is, the animations stops on a green empty page until I rememger to click next again – not very fluid.
Instead, I add up how long the exit animation takes by clicking on each of the steps and adding the time together. In the example above, it’s 0.25 seconds + 0.5 seconds + 0.5 seconds (because the middle 3 animations play at the same time).
Now I go to the Transitions tab in PowerPoint, on the far right-hand side there is an option to select Advance slide , check the After checkbox and enter the total animation time (for me, that’s 00:01.25 seconds):

Now no matter what, that slide shows for 1.25 seconds and then moves on.

Moving to next slide after completion of animation which requires MouseClick (PowerPoint)
I'm working with a Presentation and I have some problems...
Before asking them I'd like to show up objects/element of slide I'm working on:

I've added some elements in a slide and I'd like do something like this:
- The slide is looped with PlayButton with animation of 'Spin' and its being repeated until next mouse click
- Viewer of presentation clicks Mouse Button and Object 1 : GIF Cat along with Object 2 : Text CTS should disappear
- This should be followed by 'Grow and Shrink' animation of Play Button
- Then the slide show should be proceeded to next slide
So, here are the applied animations:

Finally and ultimately my question is how to advance the slide show to next slide after the last animation (of whole slide) has been played... The last animation plays but doesn't proceeds to next slide..

Go to the "Slide Show" menu and then click on "Transitions..."

After that you can now choose slide transition which you wish to apply when your slide appear.
Now you just need to uncheck "on mouse click" and check "After" now you will need to define time in seconds for your slide transition.
- Actually, the object is looped until next mouse click so the timeout will ruin the show – NeoHBz Jan 7, 2017 at 16:31
- @HackerBoy you could do one thing if you like... at next slide for 1st object in animation choose option "After Previous". So when you click mouse button the next slide will appear along with 1st object and that would look good as next slide won't just be empty, give it a try. Apologies if my suggestion are not useful for you. – Ankit Gajjar Jan 7, 2017 at 16:42
- Still no luck :( – NeoHBz Jan 7, 2017 at 16:58
- @HackerBoy Let me see if i could come up with solution – Ankit Gajjar Jan 7, 2017 at 17:32
- @HackerBoy You can use trick, duplicate your next slide and insert it in front of the one with the animation. And just apply animation to that slide with "After Previous" with delay option for 2 to 3 sec, so when your last object appear the duplicate slide will pop up itself after few second. Even though it's two slides and they look the same no one will be able to figure it out as it will look like automated. Its a bit longer process for lengthy PPT but hope this helps... – Ankit Gajjar Jan 7, 2017 at 18:37
Duplicate the page, move the last "on click" animation over to that. If it's a 2sec animation, set the animation to "with previous" and set the page to transition automatically after 2 seconds.
This way, when you click it jumps to the next page, the animation finishes and then it
Animate show on a slide and then exit on the next.

Hyper link the "click to start" textbox to slide 2, so all elements play in loop unless the user clicks the " click to start" text.

Slide transition animation in powerpoint – instructions.

Overview of How to Apply Slide Transition Animation in PowerPoint:
You can add slide transition animation in PowerPoint to presentation slides. Slide transition animation in PowerPoint is the animation that occurs when you move to a slide in slide show view. Slide transition animation effects have many options that let you precisely control their appearance. For example, you can often set the speed and direction of many transition animations.
You can add slide transition animation in PowerPoint to a single slide or all slides. To apply slide transition animation in PowerPoint, first select the slide or slides to which to apply slide transition animation in the slide thumbnails pane at the left side of the Normal view. To select multiple slides in the slide thumbnails pane, hold down the “Shift” or “Ctrl” keys on your keyboard as you click to select either multiple adjacent or non-adjacent slide thumbnails, respectively.
Then click the “Transitions” tab in the Ribbon. Then click the slide transition animation effect to apply from the choices shown in the scrollable list in the “Transition to This Slide” button group. To scroll through these choices, click the arrows at the right side of the scrollable list. Alternatively, to show all the choices in a drop-down menu from which you can select, click the “More” drop-down button in the lower-right corner of the scrollable list.
When you click an animation effect to apply it, a preview of the animation appears onscreen. To set the animation effect options, if available for your selected animation effect, click the “Effect Options” drop-down button in the “Transition to This Slide” button group on the “Transitions” tab of the Ribbon. Then select the desired effect option from the drop-down menu that appears. To change the transition effect’s speed, enter the amount of time the transition animation effect will take to play into the “Duration” spinner box in the “Timing” button group on the “Transitions” tab of the Ribbon.
Next, in the “Advance Slide” section of the “Timing” button group, you set how to advance to the next presentation slide when delivering the presentation. You can advance to the next slide by mouse click and/or automatically advance after a time interval elapses.
To enable advancing to the next slide when you click the mouse, ensure the “On Mouse Click” checkbox is checked. To automatically advance to the next slide after a time interval elapses, check the checkbox for “After:” and then enter the time duration for which to show the current slide before it advances automatically to the next slide into the small spinner box to its right. To automatically advance presentation slides, you must also ensure the “Use timings” checkbox is checked in the “Set Up” button group on the “Slide Show” tab of the Ribbon for the presentation.
If desired, to apply the selected slide transition animation to all presentation slides after creating it, click the “Apply to All” button in the “Timing” button group on the “Transitions” tab of the Ribbon.

Why Use PowerPoint Animations?
First, let's understand why we would use animations in a PowerPoint presentation. There are two common reasons:
- Animations help you control the pace of the delivery of your presentation.
- They can enhance the appearance and interest of your slides.
The above is typically achieved by transitioning either full slides, or a number of elements on a slide.
The best animations have an aesthetic use that matches your message, as well as help you control the pace of your presentation. Typically, animations just for enhancing the appearance of your slides tend to become frustrating for your audience.
Getting Started With PowerPoint Animations
Let's start with introducing the different types of animations in PowerPoint. In essence, the types of animations can be summarized by the following:
- Transitions
Transitions are a type of animations in between slides. You can view the Transitions pane to view all possible transition effects you can use. These are ideal when you want to have a noticeable transition between two slides, as you'll find in some examples later in this tutorial.

Animations are animations on your slide. You can view your options in the Animations pane. These are often used as action effects while you're presenting your slide. For example, an animation can be used to highlight a particular element on your slide.

Your animations are controlled by using the animation pane. If you'd like to learn a little bit more about the animation pane in PowerPoint, I'd recommend to check out the following tutorials. During the tutorial, I'll also cover some basics of the animation pane as used in the below examples:

Or study the complete written tutorial below for PPT animation tips and tricks:
1. Animation 101: Master Your Context
The key lesson in effective animations is to understand when to use an animation. An easy-to-remember guideline is the 80/20-rule. What 20% of your content in your presentation is the most important? That is the content that might be worthwhile for you to add animation to.
For example, announcing a new product line could be the most exciting element of your presentation. In this context, it makes sense to highlight this by adding a build in animation for example.
PowerPoint assists you by labeling their animations in different strength categories, such as subtle , moderate and exciting .

These different animation strengths can help you use the right animation in the right context. For example:
- The most important content in your slide would be ideal to use an exciting animation.
- Noticing that you're quarterly profits are a little higher this year would be ideal to use a subtle animation.
In summary: Define what is your most important content in the presentation. Next, when you choose an animation, make sure it's strength correlates to the excitement of the content that you are presenting.
2. Animation 101: Control Your Timing and Duration
Once you've mastered where to add animation, next up is to understand when to animate.
As described in the beginning of the tutorial, you can use transitions and animations . I'd recommend that you only choose one of either per slide that you'd like to add some animation to. Combining both often becomes a visual overload for your audience.
Here again, the context of the slide matters. If you'd like to surprise the audience with the whole slide, a transition could be ideal. If you'd only like to have a few elements appear dynamically, using animations will make more sense.
The duration of your animation matters as well and has a big impact on how your animation is experienced.
Have you watched a presentation with slow transitions between each slide? At first, an impressive visual effect (albeit slow) might be interesting, but afterwards it becomes a source of frustration as you see it over and over again. It's tedious.
The general rule is to have fast animations , unless you're animating something in which a slow animation makes more sense (such as presenting something brand new for example). I typically choose a timing of 0.5 seconds .

Animation Quality Control Tip
The best way to quality control your animations is to go through the presentation after you're done and only pay attention to your animations.
Ask yourself: How does the pacing feel? Are there sections in your presentation where there is too much animation? Too little? How's the timing feel?
Reviewing your presentation as a whole makes it much easier to estimate whether your choice of animation makes sense or not.
3. Animation 101: The Basics Work
Even when working to make your animations subtle and effective, it can still be easy to overdo it. The reasoning for this is that PowerPoint offers many different types of animations, which is a bit overwhelming.
There's a simple rule that helps make your presentation feel less heavy:
- Rule to Follow - Use the same animations throughout your presentation.
There's no point in adding many different transitional animations for the sake of variety. In fact, the variety will often distract from what you're actually trying to communicate.
Below are the types of animations which I personally use the most.
- Appear - To simply make an object appear in your presentation.
- Fade - Probably my most used animation that feels a little slicker than appear.
- Zoom - A good way to quickly add emphasis on an element in your slide.

Now that you understand the basic concepts of animation, let's dive into a few real-world examples and how animations can enhance your presentation.
4. Enhance Your Message With Simple Animations
One of the most common ways to use animations is to enhance a message. Let's look at how to add a simple animation to PowerPoint to enhance a message.
In a line-up of data, it might be there's interesting information but the audience is oblivious to it. Using an emphasis effect could help solve this. Take the below slide as example:

Notice how the result in Q3 was much higher. Imagine that a year ago, that quarter was actually the worst quarter. This is something you could mention verbally while giving the presentation, hence you want to highlight the result of Q3 as it went from the worst quarter to the best quarter in just a year of time.
This is an example of an interesting bit of information which can be emphasized by using an animation effect, instead of just putting the information on the slide itself. Here's the plan:
In PowerPoint, you can accomplish this by selecting "Q3: 6% increase" and adding the following emphasis effect: Underline . Underline is a simple yet subtle way to add emphasis to text.
Open the Animation Pane . Select the animation you've just added. In the Timing options, make sure that it starts On Click . This way, you can run over the facts and figures while presenting your slide and then have the animation be displayed on the moment you want it. For example:
- First run over the results of 2015, quarter by quarter.
- Then click and initiate the underlining of Q3.
- Finally, you tell the story how Q3 used to be a losing quarter instead of your strongest quarter to date.
Now you understand how pacing animations can be a much better way to deliver information than just presenting all the information on your slide directly.

5. Use Transitions Between Your Sections
A PowerPoint presentation, much like a story, typically has a beginning, middle and ending. To mark those points during your presentation, you could use an animation in the form of a Transition .
For example, you'd like to jump to your conclusion slide. In order to grab everyone's attention again, we'll be using a transition animation which packs a little bit more punch.
When you open the Transition Pane in PowerPoint, you'll notice that there are many different options and variations to choose from:

What will help you to make a decision of which transition to use is to think about the content of the slide that you're transitioning to. For example, if you're presenting a solution to a number of problems you've presented, the Fracture animation could be a strong metaphor.

A final tip for using a transition animation is to look into the Dynamic Content category. These are animations which will use your current designed slides as a basis and animate between that. For example, the animation will do something with the elements on the slide, or the background color of your slide. This is ideal if you'd like to do something more subtle.
6. Build Step-by-Step Animations into Your Slides
If you'd like to make an explanatory slide, that often means that there are multiple elements of information that you'd like to present. The easiest way to do this is to reveal a numbered (or bullet) list:

Instead of displaying all five steps at the same time, we'll display each step one by one. Imagine you're giving a cooking class. Showing one step at a time will help your audience to keep their focus on the next action and not run ahead.
Open the Animation Pane . Select the first step and let's pick Fade as our entrance effect. Next, select the second step and also pick Fade again. Repeat this process for the remaining steps.
Tip : By careful to select each step individually, instead of all the steps at once. Otherwise, they will appear all at the same time.

Now open the Animation Pane . You can see the five animations you've just added. When you click on the animation, you can open the Timing tab once again.
Now, in the context of cooking, instead of having it start on click, you might want to start the animation After Previous and choose a Delay.
You're basically building a timer in this sense. For example, imagine that in the class, everybody has five minutes to grate the zucchini. Select the third animation (sauté zucchini). Choose the After Previous timing and pick a delay of 300 seconds .

This is what will happen:
- Grate Zucchini will appear.
- 5 minutes (300 seconds) will pass.
- The delayed animation will kick in and sauté zucchini will appear.
This is an example of a more creative way to use animations to build the pace of your presentation.
7. Use Animations to Present Your Data Dynamically
By now, it should be easy to make a whole chart appear using an animation, but the true capacity of using animations with data is to pace how the chart is presented. We can do this by choosing the build order of our animation.

Click on the chart you would like to animate. Next, add an animation. When you see the animation pane, you'll notice a new option is added: Chart Animations .

In the Chart Animations menu, you have access to an option called ' group graphic ', followed by a dropdown. This affects the order of the animation and what data appears. You have access to the following options:
- As one object
- By Category
- By Element in Series
- By Element in Category
This offers unique animation options and flexibility in how to present data displayed in the chart. For example, would you like to display one piece of data for a number of years, or all pieces of data per year? It's possible with the above animation options.
Finally, you can select ' Start animation by drawing the chart background '. Including this option means your chart is hidden by default and the first animation will make the chart appear (without the data, unless you've selected ' As one object ' as an animation option).

8. Pitch a New Product With Controlled Animation
One of the more exciting ways to use animations is to pitch a new product, for example, to grab your audience's attention. Animation offers the opportunity to present a product in an aesthetically pleasing way.
Tip : What you have to be careful of though, is that an emphasizing animation can quickly become overdone. For example, a 'Spiral In' or 'Curve Up' will remind your audience of poorly made television advertisements.

Hence, ironically the best way to pitch a new product is to work in a 'less is more' fashion. Apple is a good at this for example, when you see their presentations. Typically, a simple entrance animation such as 'Faded Zoom' will do.
In order to make your animation a little bit more dramatic, play around with the timing is usually helpful. Instead of using the traditional 0,5 seconds, go for 1 or even 2 seconds already has a large impact in how the animation is perceived. This is because slower animations are uncommon in well-animated presentations.
9. Use a Transition to Declutter and Simplify
If you have to use a particularly busy slide, it often helps to use some exit animations to literally clean up your slide and grab the attention of the audience once again if a simple slide follows.
You can remove individual elements on the slide by using exit animations. Another method is to use a strong Transition between slides.
Morph is an interesting transition to use. It compares the elements between both slides and then figures out the ideal way to transition. Sometimes it works, but it's a more smooth transition rather than a strong exit animation.
In this context, an animation such as Curtains , Crush or Honeycomb for example would be more suitable. Try to use this only once or twice in a presentation, as these animations tend to be visually heavy.

10. Grab Attention With Formatting Text Animations
You can use the formatting text animations to emphasize text in your presentation. You have a variety of options for highlighting text, such as:
- Brush Color
- Bold Reveal
- Grow with Colour
Especially Grow with Colour is an excellent way of highlighting a line of text in a busy slide for example.

As you see, using Grow with Colour offers the opportunity to call attention to a piece of text. Now, you can use the audience's focus on this to continue your presentation by telling more about this particular bullet point.

How do I jump directly to next page without animations?
If I have a PowerPoint document with several pages and several animations per page...
If I press the "Right Arrow" it will go to the next animation on the same page, and it will continue jumping to next animation till the last animation on that page. Only then PowerPoint will jump to the next page.
If I have too many animations it could be quite slow to cycle through pages.
Is there any way to jump directly to next page without pressing as many times as animations... (in the reading View Mode).
If you want to go backwards instead is faster because it doesn't activate all the animations, it goes directly to the previous page. How can I do it forward?
I know you can go directly to page number N if you type the number but you need to know it beforehand and this is a different story.
I'm interested in solutions for PowerPoint 2013 or 2016.
- microsoft-powerpoint
- microsoft-powerpoint-2013
- 2 possible duplicate of Skip animations on current slide in PowerPoint . BTW Did you try to press H ? Some shortcuts – Hastur Sep 25, 2015 at 11:48
- Obviously it's not a duplicate. I clearly stated I don't want to go to page number hat know you can go directly to page number N by typing it. That solution is not useful if you want to browse quickly the pages, you need to know the numertation beforehand. Creating an action on every page is not a useful solution either. I'm just asking for a keyboard shortcut. – skan Sep 26, 2015 at 11:13
One odd trick that might help:
Go into slide sorter view Press CTRL+A to select all
(You may then need to CTRL+Click the first slide in the show ... test this)
Hide all of the slides.
Now in slide show view you can press H to advance to the next Hidden slide. When I tested this, it ignored the animations and jumped directly to the next slide.

- Good idea but a little bit strange. I would need to hide and unhide many times. – skan Oct 6, 2015 at 11:48
- True, but it would only take a few seconds each time, a clear win over the time it would take to plow through lots of complex animations. By the way, visit powerpoint.uservoice.com and enter the idea for a NEXT SLIDE keystroke combo as a feature request. It's a very good idea. – Steve Rindsberg Oct 6, 2015 at 13:49

Move an Object Across a PowerPoint Slide Using Motion Path or Entrance Animations
by Avantix Learning Team | Updated May 28, 2021
Applies to: Microsoft ® PowerPoint ® 2013, 2016, 2019 and 365 (Windows)
You can move a shape, image or other object across a PowerPoint slide during a slide show using motion path or entrance animations. When you run a slide show, the object will move across the screen (on click or automatically).

To apply animations, use the Animations tab in the Ribbon:

You can use entrance or motion path animations to move an object across a slide but you'll need to expand the Animations Gallery to access motion path animations.
If you want to apply more than one animation to an object, you will need to use Add Animation in the Advanced Animation group.
Animations are typically added to objects in Normal View but can be applied in Slide Master View.
Adding a motion path animation to make an object move across a slide
To apply a motion path animation to make an object move across a slide on click:
- Select an object. For text objects, click in the text box or placeholder or click its edge.
- Click the Animations tab in the Ribbon.
- In the Animations group, click the More down arrow on the bottom right of the Animations Gallery.
- Click the Line motion path animation in the Motion Paths group. If you click More Motion Paths, you can choose another motion path animation such as Funnel. For some motion paths, such as Custom Path, drag on the slide to create the path and then double-click to end it (see below for more information on custom paths).
- Click Effect Options on the Animations tab and select a direction such as Up, Down, Left or Right. Effect Options change depending on the type of animation.
- Click the motion path and drag the starting point (green dot or green arrow) or ending point (red dot or red arrow) to change the beginning or end of the path. The starting point begins in the middle of the object and the ending point ends in the middle of the object. In 2013 and later versions, a "ghost copy" of the object at its ending location appears on screen. You can drag the "ghost copy" to change the end point of the path.
- Drag the sizing handles (white circles) to resize the path.
The expanded Animations Gallery appears when you click the More down arrow in the Animations group (note the Entrance and Motion Paths categories):

If you select More Motion Paths in the Animation Gallery, the following dialog box appears (scroll down for more options):

You can also apply a motion path animation by clicking Add Animation on the Animations tab in the Advanced Animation group.
Custom paths behave differently from simple line motion paths. Intially, if you click Custom Path, you can drag on the screen to create the path. However, to make straight lines, simply click once at each desired point in the path rather than dragging. If you later want to change to a freeform path, click once again to switch to freeform mode and drag to continue the path. Click once to return to drawing straight lines. When you are finished drawing the path, double-click to end it.
By default, the object will appear on click during a slide show and follow the path.
You can select other motion path options in Effect Options on the Animations tab in the Ribbon:
- Sequence options can be used with some objects such as text boxes or placeholders with multiple bullet points or paragraphs. For example, you can choose to move paragraphs or bullets one at a time or as one object.
- Locked, in the Origin category, can be selected when a motion path is unlocked (which is the default). If the path is unlocked, it will move with the object. If you lock the path or origin, when you move the object, the motion path will remain in the same location. You can unlock a motion path that is locked.
- Edit Points is available for all motion paths except Line. If you select Edit Points, points will appear along the motion path and you can drag them to change the path. You can Ctrl-click a point to delete it or Ctrl-click on the path to add a new point.
- Reverse Path Direction will switch the start and end point of the motion path.
You can also combine motion path animations with other animations like Grow / Shrink using Add Animation.
Adding an entrance animation to make an object move across a slide
To apply an entrance animation to make an object move across a slide on click:
- Click the Fly In entrance animation in the Entrance group. If you click More Entrance Effects, you can choose another animation such as Spiral In or Bounce.
- Click Effect Options on the Animations tab and select a direction such as From Top or From Left.
You can also apply an entrance animation by clicking Add Animation on the Animations tab in the Advanced Animation group.
By default, the object will appear on click during a slide show.
Using the Animation Pane
If you're going to work with animations, it's helpful to display the Animation Pane so you can easily select and edit the animations.
To use the Animation Pane:
- Click Animation Pane in the Advanced Animations group. The Animation Pane appears on the right side of the screen.
- Click the animation in the Animation Pane and then select other options on the Animations tab. You can also click the drop-down menu that appears and select Effect Options.
Changing the way an object starts during a slide show
Animations are set by default to start on click during a slide show. If you want an animation to start automatically, you will need to change the start setting.
To start an animation automatically, you can start:
- After Previous – the animation sequence will begin once a previous animation effect or effects is completed. The start of a slide show is also a previous effect.
- With Previous – the animation sequence will begin at the same time as a previous animation effect or effects. The start of a slide show is also a previous effect.
To change the way an animation starts during a slide show:
- Select the animation effect in the Animation Pane.
- In the Timing group, select an option from the Start drop-down menu.
Setting timing
When you apply an animation, a timing is automatically set for the animation (in seconds). The default duration is different for each animation effect.
To set a speed or duration of an animation:
- In the Animations group, enter a time (in seconds) for the animation in the Duration area of the Timing group. You can click the up and down arrows to change the duration or type a duration.
Note the Duration on the Animations tab in the Ribbon below:

Viewing animations by running a slide show
You will need to run a slide show in order to see your object(s) move across the slide. Click the Slide Show button on the bottom right of the screen to run a show or press F5 (some users may need to press Fn + F5) to run the slide show from the beginning. Use the right and left arrows to move from slide to slide or start the animations.

5 Tips for Creating Animations & Transitions in PowerPoint
Adding animation to your PowerPoint slideshows can greatly enhance the experience you offer through your presentation. If you’re new to PowerPoint, follow these tips to get started with animations.
1. Transition vs Object Animations
One of the first things you need to be aware of when using PowerPoint animations is the difference between transition animations and object animations.
On PowerPoint, you can animate each object you add to your slides. While this can be useful when presenting key points in a presentation, you should try to keep object animations to a minimum.
You can also add transition animations to your slides. These animations help create smoother transitions between slides.
2. Time It Perfectly
Each and every animation you add in PowerPoint can be customized to your preference by setting times for the duration of the animation as well as adding delays.
It’s up to you to experiment with different settings to find the right time and delays for your animations. Try to keep animations short and sweet.
3. Stack Multiple Animations
Another useful feature of PowerPoint animations is the ability to stack multiple animations for objects. For example, you can add both entrance and exit animations for each object on your slide by stacking different animation effects.
Stacking animations can drastically increase the duration of your slideshow presentations so use this feature only when necessary.
4. Automatic vs Controlled Animations
Controlled animations offer a great advantage when you’re delivering specific types of presentations like product reveals and feature showcases. For example, if you want to talk about key points in your speech, you can use controlled animations to reveal those points one at a time upon your mouse click or using a remote.
You can also set your animations to play automatically so they flow through your slide presentations without having to click for each slide to start.
5. Keep It Simple
Overall, you should try to keep animations to a minimum and avoid using the more flashy animations in your presentations. For example, it’s perfectly fine to add a fade-in transition effect to your slides. However, adding flashing and bouncing animations may hurt your reputation as a professional.
Stick to the simple and minimal animations to make your presentations more entertaining and easier to look at.

How to auto advance a PowerPoint slide after an exit animation is over?
PowerPoint entrance animation set up with "Start: With Previous" starts right when a new slide is advanced. However, if you set up an exit animation in the same way, it doesn't start with a slide ending sequence. Instead, the "Start: On Click" trigger needs to be used and after your exit animation is over you still need one extra click just to advance to the next slide .
Workaround s to this are obvious: create a duplicate slide, make your ending animations from the original slide being your starting animations on the duplicate slide and let them be followed with whatever you want or create a transition slide with those ending animations only and set up "Change Advance slide -> Automatically after -> [the time it takes your animations to finish]".
These workarounds will make it work for your audience, visually. However, it has an impact on slide numbers you might need to adjust accordingly and/or duplicate content changes. If you are the only one creating and using your presentation, this might be just fine. But if you are creating a presentation in collaborative mode with three other people and don't even know who will be the presenter at the end, you can mess things up.
Let's be specific: most of my slides have 0.2s fly in entrance animation applied to blocks of content coming from right, bottom or left. Advancing to the next slide I want them to fly out in another 0.2s exit animation being followed by new slide 0.2s fly in entrance animation of the new blocks. The swapping of the blocks should be triggered while advancing to the next slide, as usually. As mentioned, I'm not able to achieve this without one extra click between the slides.
I wrote a VBA script that should start together with an exit animation and will auto advance a slide after 0.3s when the exit animation is over. That way I should get rid of those extra clicks which are needed right now.
It works well when binded on a box, button or another object. But I can't make it run on a single click (anywhere on the slide) so that it could start together with the exit animation onclick trigger. Creating a big transparent rectangular shape over the whole slide and binding the macro on it doesn't help either. By clicking it you only get the macro running, exit animation is not triggered. Anyway, I don't want to bind the macro to any other workaround object but the slide itself.
Anyone knows how to trigger a PowerPoint VBA script on slide onclick event? Anyone knows a secret setting that will make the exit animation work as expected i.e. animating right before exiting a slide while transitioning to the next one? Anyone knows how to beat this dragon?
- Your "workaround" involving the duplicate exit animation slides was just what I needed, thanks! If you did ever find a solution to your problem, you should post it as an answer here for future reference by others :) – Doktor J Dec 30, 2014 at 5:37
- 2 You ever found a satisfactory solution to this? I mean, 10 years have passed, and several versions of powerpoint, it's hard to imagine that this is still not possible these days, right? – theV0ID Jun 10, 2022 at 8:28
- I went with the extra click for that particular presentation. It of course wasn't worth the hassle, and I started to approach my slides more practically – focusing more on the content. After all, if the content doesn't make sense, no transition effect would help the audience to understand it better. I realized I want the audience to remember something valuable, that would help them solve their problem, not a cool animation. As a result, never really looked back for a solution to this problem. Remember re-testing it some years later, still wasn't fixed. Not sure if MS considers this an issue. – joooc Jun 10, 2022 at 18:00

You could also set the TRANSITIONS (tab) -> Advance Slide After 00:00:00 seconds. You will need to set the SLIDESHOW (tab) to Use (Rehearsal) Timings. This will automatically advance the slide after the last animation action. You could, of course give it some seconds to wait, but it sounds like you just want to advance the slide.
- 8 Hi. Auto Advance Slide After 00:00:00 triggers both the Entry and Exit animations instantly and proceeds to the next slide right after that. Rehearsal timing only sets the Advance Slide After value based on how you proceed in the Rehearsal timing mode. What I need is to enter a slide with a box flying in (Entry animation) and when I proceed to the next slide the box flies out (Exit animation) after which the slide is automatically changed to the next one where another box flies in (Entry animation on another slide), without me being forced to click twice for ex.animation and slide advance :-/ – joooc Feb 4, 2013 at 9:50
You can intercept events in powerpoint using class module
In Class Module
In left combo (object) in VBA Explorer you can see ppt and in right your events
In common module use
Now you can use all events of presentation.
- 2 eeh.. what? What is x supposed to do? – Domi Dec 11, 2013 at 7:38
- Perhaps, but there's no Slide OnClick event to trap, so in this case, I don't think this will be the answer. – Steve Rindsberg Jan 20, 2021 at 20:09
OnSlideShowPageChange: VBA working while going to a slide without pressing any button

Theire is a code havy workaround You do that using the duplicate methode. However you duplicate using vba not manualy. You can use the OnSlideShowPageChange Test if the slide is one that need to be duplicated using a naming scheme of your choice. Then duplicate the slide. Then set the trasition effect to non and make it transition after 0 sec duration. Then remove all animations and add the exit animations desired. Then you use the SlideShowEnd event to delete all the duplicate slides. Note that you can use the SlideShowBegin to duplicate all the slides at once however duplicating a slide is not a fast tasck. So if you have a lot of havy slides to duplicate strating you presentation may take few seconds. Sorry for not providing the code since it needs several lines. For naming the slides you use also a macro.

You can animate text and other objects in a PowerPoint slide to add flair to your presentation. Follow these steps to learn how create animation effects in PowerPoint, as well as how to animate the transitions from one slide to another.
Animating Text or Objects

- To select a whole text box, click on the border of the text box. Powerpoint automatically distinguishes text separated by a paragraph or bullet break.
- If your Powerpoint has no objects to animate, you will need to add some .

- You can click through the animations to see a demonstration and view more animations by scrolling with the arrows on the right of the animations box.
- Entrance animations will change how an object enters the page.
- Exit animations will change how an object leaves the page.
- Emphasis animations will add movement or highlights to bring attention to an object.
- Paths determine a course of movement for an object on the page.

- This step can be repeated multiple times to add as many animations to an object as you like.

- This can be a useful tool for staying organized when working with multiple animations.

- “On Mouse Click” will hold the animation until you click the mouse.
- “After Previous” will automatically start the animation after any previous animation (or when the slide appears if there are no other animations)
- “With Previous” will play the animation at the same time as the previous animation on that slide.

- The delay begins after the selected animation action. That is if “On Click” is selected, the delay will start after the click.

- You can also click and drag animation listings in the animation pane.

- Choosing to add a sound manually will open up a window to browse for sound files on your computer, so you will need to have one handy.

Animating Page Transitions

- Select “None” on the left to remove a selected transition.
- A slide can only have one transition at a time.

- ”On Mouse Click” is selected by default.

- A higher duration means a slower transition.
- This setting only adjusts the duration of the transition, not of the slide itself.

- Choose “No Sound” from the same menu to remove any added sound effect.

Adding Animated Images and Videos to a Presentation

- You can click and drag the image to move it around on the slide once it's added.

- You must be connected to the internet during your presentation for online objects to display.

- Embedded videos can only play if you are connected to the internet during your presentation.

How to Add Animation to PowerPoint on a PC
Here are easy steps for using PowerPoint slide animation. The following instructions are for PowerPoint 2016, 2013, and 2010, as well as PowerPoint for Microsoft 365.
Open your PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide to which you want to apply animations.
Select the item you want to animate .
On the Animations tab, in the Animations group, select the More arrow in the Animations box.
You can also add Entrance , Emphasis , or Exit animations:
- An Entrance animates the item as it appears on the slide.
- An Emphasis animates the item after it’s already on the slide.
- An Exit animates the item as it leaves the slide.
Select the animation you want to use. When you select it, you’ll see the animation happen on your slide.
You’ll see the number “1” appear next to the object you’ve animated, indicating this will be the first animation to occur when you select within the slide during your presentation. If you animate more than one item, they'll be numbered in the order in which you create them.
If you want to animate several items within an object with the same animation, select the object, then choose your animation.
On the Animations tab, in the Animations group, select Effect Options to determine whether you want the animation to happen to all the items at once, or to each one separately. You can also adjust the way the animation happens; for example, whether an item “floats in” from the top or bottom of the slide.
To fine-tune the way animations happen during your presentation, on the Animations tab, in the Advanced Animation group, select Animation Pane . A pane will appear in the right-hand column of your screen.
- To change the order of an animation, select it from the list, then use the arrows in the upper-right corner of the pane to move it up or down.
- To adjust the timing, select an animation from the list and select the down-arrow for options.
- To view how the animations happen, select Play All .
To remove an animation, select an animated item, then, on the Animations tab, in the Animations group, select None .

The following instructions are for PowerPoint 2019, 2016, and 2011 for Mac, as well as PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac.
Open your PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide to which you want to apply the animation.
Select the item you want to animate.
On the Animations tab, you’ll see choices for how an item appears on the slide, receives emphasis, or exits the slide. Select the one you want to use.
In PowerPoint 2011 for Mac, the selections are labeled as “entrance,” “emphasis,” and “exit” effects.
You’ll see the number “1” appear next to the object you’ve animated, indicating this will be the first animation to occur when you click within the slide during your presentation. If you animate more than one item, they'll be numbered in the order in which you create them.
To fine-tune the way animations happen during your presentation, click the number of the animation you want to adjust to open the Animations pane.
In PowerPoint 2011 for Mac, these options are available via the Animation tab, under Animation Options .
- Use the Effect Options dialog box to change how the animation works.
- Note : If Effect Options is not available, it may be because there are no options available for that effect.
- Use the Timing dialog box to set how long the animation lasts.
- Click Play From to see your changes in action.
Remember, your purpose is to support your message and build interest. Use animations judiciously, and leave the fancy displays for another time.
You're done.
Why Animation Makes Your Presentation Stand Out
There are a number of ways to spice up your PowerPoint slides, including music, video, slide transitions, and animation. These elements can add interest and depth to your presentation, but too many can become distracting rather than enlightening. The key is choosing elements that will enhance your presentation rather than overwhelm it.
Using animation means applying movement to an item (such as lines of text, graphs, or images) on a slide. Presenters often use it to reveal bullet points one at a time instead of showing them all at once. This strategy can help keep audiences interested because they won’t know what’s coming next. Subtle effects like “appear,” “fade,” and “wipe” often work best; options such as “swivel,” “bounce,” “zoom”, and "typewriter" may get you into distraction territory.

PowerPoint: Automatically move to next slide after animation ends As a basic presentation tool, PowerPoint is great and used correctly, the animation features can create some decent flows but I've always been frustrated by the fact that you cannot set individual slides to get to the end of their animations and automatically move to the next slide.
There is no way to really do what you want but you can fake it. Copy and Paste slide 1 to a new slide two and remove all but the final animation Make the final animation with previous and set an auto transition to the next slide This should appear like the last click triggers the last animation www.pptalchemy.co.uk
The slide is looped with PlayButton with animation of 'Spin' and its being repeated until next mouse click Viewer of presentation clicks Mouse Button and Object 1 : GIF Cat along with Object 2 : Text CTS should disappear This should be followed by 'Grow and Shrink' animation of Play Button Then the slide show should be proceeded to next slide
Next, in the "Advance Slide" section of the "Timing" button group, you set how to advance to the next presentation slide when delivering the presentation. You can advance to the next slide by mouse click and/or automatically advance after a time interval elapses.
Answer. Nope. The trick is to insert a duplicate slide in front of the one with the animation. When you click to advance the duplicate slide it goes to the next slide and the animation starts, completes and automatically advances that slide. Even though it's two slides (because they look the same) your audience won't be able to tell you went to ...

Click the Animations tab in the Ribbon. Click Add Animation in the Advanced Animations group (you must select Add Animation if you are adding more than one animation to an object). A drop-down menu appears. Click the Disappear exit animation in the Exit group. Other common exit animations are Fly Out or Fade.
1. One odd trick that might help: Go into slide sorter view Press CTRL+A to select all. (You may then need to CTRL+Click the first slide in the show ... test this) Hide all of the slides. Now in slide show view you can press H to advance to the next Hidden slide. When I tested this, it ignored the animations and jumped directly to the next slide.
To apply a motion path animation to make an object move across a slide on click: Select an object. For text objects, click in the text box or placeholder or click its edge. Click the Animations tab in the Ribbon. In the Animations group, click the More down arrow on the bottom right of the Animations Gallery.
Use these animation features to create your own in and out slide transitions. Control the movements on click, hover or just by navigating to the next slide. The swapping of the blocks should be triggered while advancing to the next slide, as usually. As mentioned, I'm not able to achieve this without one extra click between the slides.
