body-homework-chalkboard

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

body-gold-piggy-bank-money

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

body-studtypool-logo

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

body_stophand

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

7 Apps That Can Do Your Homework Much Faster Than You

7 Apps That Will Do Your Homework For You

In the field of educational technology, some apps might be getting too smart.

More and more apps are delivering on-demand homework help to students, who can easily re-purpose the learning tools to obtain not just assistance, but also answers. Whether or not that’s cheating—and how to stop it—is one of the concerns surrounding a new app that can solve math equations with the snap of a camera . While the software has inspired teachers to create real-world homework problems that can’t be automatically solved , that strategy doesn’t hold up to other apps that tap into real-life brains for solutions.

Here’s a look at 7 apps that can do your homework for you, and what they have to say about cheating:

Price : Free Availability : iOS, Android app coming in early 2015

The new, seemingly magic app allows users to take pictures of typed equations, and then outputs a step-by-step solution. As of Wednesday, the app is the number one free app on the App Store. But the biggest issue, one teacher argues , isn’t if students will use the app to cheat, because many will. Rather, it’s about how teachers will adapt. A PhotoMath spokeswoman said educators have welcomed the app with positive reviews, but the software remains “quite controversial.”

“We didn’t develop PhotoMath as a cheating tool. We really wanted kids to learn,” said Tijana Zganec, a sales and marketing associate at tech company MicroBlink, which created PhotoMath. “If you want to cheat, you will find a way to cheat. But if you want to learn, you can use PhotoMath for that.”

Whether you’re a high schooler with eight periods of classes or a college student tackling dozens of credits, there’s one thing you’ve got for sure: a mess of assignments. iHomework can help you keep track of all your work, slicing and dicing it in a variety of ways. Sorting it by due date, week, month, or by course, the app is more organized than a Trapper Keeper. And in integrating data from Questia, you can link your reading material to your assignments so you don’t have to dig through a pile of papers to find the right information.

A scheduling feature can help you keep track of those random bi-weekly Thursday labs, and you can even mark the location of your courses on a map so you don’t end up on the wrong side of campus. And finally, with iCloud syncing, you can access all this information on whatever Apple-compatible device you’re using at the moment — no need to dig for your iPad.

Google Apps for Education

Taking the search giant’s suite of free browser-based apps and sandboxing them so they are safe for school use, Google Apps for Education is an excellent alternative to the mainstream installable productivity software, but this one has a perk that almost school board will love—it’s free. Packaging together favorites like Gmail, Hangouts, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive with Classroom, a digital hub for organizing assignments and sending feedback, the goal of this collection is to make learning a more collaborative process.

Though Google Apps for Education is cloud-hosted, the programs can be used offline, ideal for when your student needs to escape the internet and work distraction-free. And since it works on any device, it also helps students avoid buying overly expensive hardware. That means more money for extracurricular activities.

HwPic is a tutoring service that allows students to take send pictures of their homework to tutors, who will then respond within minutes to your questions with a step-by-step solution. There’s even an option to expedite the answers if a student is in a hurry. HwPic Co-Founder Tiklat Issa said that the app was initially rejected by Apple’s App Store, which believed it would promote cheating, but he successfully argued that just because someone uses the app in a way that it’s not meant to be used doesn’t mean the app should be punished.

Issa added that HwPic prohibits cheating in its terms and conditions. Tutors don’t solve homework that has words like “Quiz” or “Exam,” and they often know if a student is sending a photo during a test if they’ve paid for expedited answers, and if the photo is dim, blurry and taken under a desk. “We’ve minimized cheating,” said Issa. “We haven’t eliminated it. That’s kind of unrealistic.”

Wolfram Alpha

Price : $2.99 Availability : iOS and Android

Wolfram Alpha is similar to PhotoMath, only that it targets older students studying high levels of math and doesn’t support photos. The service also outputs step-by-step solutions to topics as advanced as vector calculus and differential equations, making it a popular tool for college students.

“It’s cheating not doing computer-based math, because we’re cheating students out of real conceptual understanding and an ability to drive much further forward in the math they can do, to cover much more conceptual ground. And in turn, that’s cheating our economies,” said Conrad Wolfram, Wolfram Research’s Director of Strategic Development, in a TEDx Talk . “People talk about the knowledge economy. I think we’re moving forward to what we’re calling the computational knowledge economy.”

Homework Helper

Price: Free Availability: iOS and Android

Chinese Internet search company Baidu launched an app called Homework Helper this year with which students can crowdsource help or answers to homework. Users post a picture or type their homework questions onto online forums, and those who answer the questions can win e-coins that can be used to buy electronics like iPhones and laptops.

The app has logged 5 million downloads, much to the dismay of many some parents who argue that the students spend less time thinking about challenging problems. A Homework Helper staffer admitted to Quartz , “I think this is a kind of cheating.”

Price: Free, but some homework services require payment Availability: iOS

Slader is a crowdsourcing app for high school and college students to post and answer questions in math and science. While students can post original homework for help, many questions in popular textbooks have already been answered on the app, according to Fast Company . An Illinois high school said earlier this year that it suspected students were using the service to cheat on their math homework.

Slader argues that it’s “challenging traditional ideas about math and education,” and said that the ideas behind its app “aren’t a write-off to teachers,” according to its blog . Slader told San Francisco media outlet KQED that it shouldn’t be dismissed as a cheating tool, but rather considered a way for students to access real-time help.

A Simple, Effective Homework Plan For Teachers: Part 1

So for the next two weeks I’m going to outline a homework plan–four strategies this week, four the next–aimed at making homework a simple yet effective process.

Let’s get started.

Homework Strategies 1-4

The key to homework success is to eliminate all the obstacles—and excuses—that get in the way of students getting it done.

Add leverage and some delicately placed peer pressure to the mix, and not getting homework back from every student will be a rare occurrence.

Here is how to do it.

1. Assign what students already know.

Most teachers struggle with homework because they misunderstand the narrow purpose of homework, which is to practice what has already been learned. Meaning, you should only assign homework your students fully understand and are able to do by themselves.

Therefore, the skills needed to complete the evening’s homework must be thoroughly taught during the school day. If your students can’t prove to you that they’re able to do the work without assistance, then you shouldn’t assign it.

It isn’t fair to your students—or their parents—to have to sit at the dinner table trying to figure out what you should have taught them during the day.

2. Don’t involve parents.

Homework is an agreement between you and your students. Parents shouldn’t be involved. If parents want to sit with their child while he or she does the homework, great. But it shouldn’t be an expectation or a requirement of them. Otherwise, you hand students a ready-made excuse for not doing it.

You should tell parents at back-to-school night, “I got it covered. If ever your child doesn’t understand the homework, it’s on me. Just send me a note and I’ll take care of it.”

Holding yourself accountable is not only a reminder that your lessons need to be spot on, but parents will love you for it and be more likely to make sure homework gets done every night. And for negligent parents? It’s best for their children in particular to make homework a teacher/student-only agreement.

3. Review and then ask one important question.

Set aside a few minutes before the end of the school day to review the assigned homework. Have your students pull out the work, allow them to ask final clarifying questions, and have them check to make sure they have the materials they need.

And then ask one important question: “Is there anyone, for any reason, who will not be able to turn in their homework in the morning? I want to know now rather than find out about it in the morning.”

There are two reasons for this question.

First, the more leverage you have with students, and the more they admire and respect you , the more they’ll hate disappointing you. This alone can be a powerful incentive for students to complete homework.

Second, it’s important to eliminate every excuse so that the only answer students can give for not doing it is that they just didn’t care. This sets up the confrontation strategy you’ll be using the next morning.

4. Confront students on the spot.

One of your key routines should be entering the classroom in the morning.

As part of this routine, ask your students to place their homework in the top left-hand (or right-hand) corner of their desk before beginning a daily independent assignment—reading, bellwork , whatever it may be.

During the next five to ten minutes, walk around the room and check homework–don’t collect it. Have a copy of the answers (if applicable) with you and glance at every assignment.

You don’t have to check every answer or read every portion of the assignment. Just enough to know that it was completed as expected. If it’s math, I like to pick out three or four problems that represent the main thrust of the lesson from the day before.

It should take just seconds to check most students.

Remember, homework is the practice of something they already know how to do. Therefore, you shouldn’t find more than a small percentage of wrong answers–if any. If you see more than this, then you know your lesson was less than effective, and you’ll have to reteach

If you find an assignment that is incomplete or not completed at all, confront that student on the spot .

Call them on it.

The day before, you presented a first-class lesson and gave your students every opportunity to buzz through their homework confidently that evening. You did your part, but they didn’t do theirs. It’s an affront to the excellence you strive for as a class, and you deserve an explanation.

It doesn’t matter what he or she says in response to your pointed questions, and there is no reason to humiliate or give the student the third degree. What is important is that you make your students accountable to you, to themselves, and to their classmates.

A gentle explanation of why they don’t have their homework is a strong motivator for even the most jaded students to get their homework completed.

The personal leverage you carry–that critical trusting rapport you have with your students–combined with the always lurking peer pressure is a powerful force. Not using it is like teaching with your hands tied behind your back.

Homework Strategies 5-8

Next week we’ll cover the final four homework strategies . They’re critical to getting homework back every day in a way that is painless for you and meaningful for your students.

I hope you’ll tune in.

Good stuff, Michael. A lot of teachers I train and coach are surprised (and skeptical) at first when I make the same point you make about NOT involving parents. But it’s right on based on my experience as a teacher, instructional coach, and administrator the past 17 years. More important, it’s validated by Martin Haberman’s 40 years of research on what separates “star” teachers from “quitter/failure” teachers ( http://www.habermanfoundation.org/Book.aspx?sm=c1 )

I love the articles about “homework”. in the past I feel that it is difficuty for collecting homework. I will try your plan next year.

I think you’ll be happy with it, Sendy!

How do you confront students who do not have their homework completed?

You state in your book to let consequences do their job and to never confront students, only tell them the rule broken and consequence.

I want to make sure I do not go against that rule, but also hold students accountable for not completing their work. What should I say to them?

They are two different things. Homework is not part of your classroom management plan.

Hi Michael,

I’m a first-year middle school teacher at a private school with very small class sizes (eight to fourteen students per class). While I love this homework policy, I feel discouraged about confronting middle schoolers publicly regarding incomplete homework. My motive would never be to humiliate my students, yet I can name a few who would go home thinking their lives were over if I did confront them in front of their peers. Do you have any ideas of how to best go about incomplete homework confrontation with middle school students?

The idea isn’t in any way to humiliate students, but to hold them accountable for doing their homework. Parts one and two represent my best recommendation.:)

I believe that Homework is a vital part of students learning.

I’m still a student–in a classroom management class. So I have no experience with this, but I’m having to plan a procedure for my class. What about teacher sitting at desk and calling student one at a time to bring folder while everyone is doing bellwork or whatever their procedure is? That way 1) it would be a long walk for the ones who didn’t do the work :), and 2) it would be more private. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks. 🙂

I’m not sure I understand your question. Would you mind emailing me with more detail? I’m happy to help.

I think what you talked about is great. How do you feel about flipping a lesson? My school is pretty big on it, though I haven’t done it yet. Basically, for homework, the teacher assigns a video or some other kind of media of brand new instruction. Students teach themselves and take a mini quiz at the end to show they understand the new topic. Then the next day in the classroom, the teacher reinforces the lesson and the class period is spent practicing with the teacher present for clarification. I haven’t tried it yet because as a first year teacher I haven’t had enough time to make or find instructional videos and quizzes, and because I’m afraid half of my students will not do their homework and the next day in class I will have to waste the time of the students who did their homework and just reteach what the video taught.

Anyway, this year, I’m trying the “Oops, I forgot my homework” form for students to fill out every time they forget their homework. It keeps them accountable and helps me keep better track of who is missing what. Once they complete it, I cut off the bottom portion of the form and staple it to their assignment. I keep the top copy for my records and for parent/teacher conferences.

Here is an instant digital download of the form. It’s editable in case you need different fields.

Thanks again for your blog. I love the balance you strike between rapport and respect.

Your site is a godsend for a newbie teacher! Thank you for your clear, step-by-step, approach!

I G+ your articles to my PLN all the time.

You’re welcome, TeachNich! And thank you for sharing the articles.

Hi Michael, I’m going into my first year and some people have told me to try and get parents involved as much as I can – even home visits and things like that. But my gut says that negligent parents cannot be influenced by me. Still, do you see any value in having parents initial their student’s planner every night so they stay up to date on homework assignments? I could also write them notes.

Personally, no. I’ll write about this in the future, but when you hold parents accountable for what are student responsibilities, you lighten their load and miss an opportunity to improve independence.

I am teaching at a school where students constantly don’t take work home. I rarely give homework in math but when I do it is usually something small and I still have to chase at least 7 kids down to get their homework. My way of holding them accountable is to record a homework completion grade as part of their overall grade. Is this wrong to do? Do you believe homework should never be graded for a grade and just be for practice?

No, I think marking a completion grade is a good idea.

I’ve been teaching since 2014 and we need to take special care when assigning homework. If the homework assignment is too hard, is perceived as busy work, or takes too long to complete, students might tune out and resist doing it. Never send home any assignment that students cannot do. Homework should be an extension of what students have learned in class. To ensure that homework is clear and appropriate, consider the following tips for assigning homework:

Assign homework in small units. Explain the assignment clearly. Establish a routine at the beginning of the year for how homework will be assigned. Remind students of due dates periodically. And Make sure students and parents have information regarding the policy on missed and late assignments, extra credit, and available adaptations. Establish a set routine at the beginning of the year.

Thanks Nancie L Beckett

Dear Michael,

I love your approach! Do you have any ideas for homework collection for lower grades? K-3 are not so ready for independent work first thing in the morning, so I do not necessarily have time to check then; but it is vitally important to me to teach the integrity of completing work on time.

Also, I used to want parents involved in homework but my thinking has really changed, and your comments confirm it!

Hi Meredith,

I’ll be sure and write about this topic in an upcoming article (or work it into an article). 🙂

Overall, this article provides valuable insights and strategies for teachers to implement in their classrooms. I look forward to reading Part 2 and learning more about how to make homework a simple and effective process. Thanks

Should We Get Rid of Homework?

Some educators are pushing to get rid of homework. Would that be a good thing?

homework send me

By Jeremy Engle and Michael Gonchar

Do you like doing homework? Do you think it has benefited you educationally?

Has homework ever helped you practice a difficult skill — in math, for example — until you mastered it? Has it helped you learn new concepts in history or science? Has it helped to teach you life skills, such as independence and responsibility? Or, have you had a more negative experience with homework? Does it stress you out, numb your brain from busywork or actually make you fall behind in your classes?

Should we get rid of homework?

In “ The Movement to End Homework Is Wrong, ” published in July, the Times Opinion writer Jay Caspian Kang argues that homework may be imperfect, but it still serves an important purpose in school. The essay begins:

Do students really need to do their homework? As a parent and a former teacher, I have been pondering this question for quite a long time. The teacher side of me can acknowledge that there were assignments I gave out to my students that probably had little to no academic value. But I also imagine that some of my students never would have done their basic reading if they hadn’t been trained to complete expected assignments, which would have made the task of teaching an English class nearly impossible. As a parent, I would rather my daughter not get stuck doing the sort of pointless homework I would occasionally assign, but I also think there’s a lot of value in saying, “Hey, a lot of work you’re going to end up doing in your life is pointless, so why not just get used to it?” I certainly am not the only person wondering about the value of homework. Recently, the sociologist Jessica McCrory Calarco and the mathematics education scholars Ilana Horn and Grace Chen published a paper, “ You Need to Be More Responsible: The Myth of Meritocracy and Teachers’ Accounts of Homework Inequalities .” They argued that while there’s some evidence that homework might help students learn, it also exacerbates inequalities and reinforces what they call the “meritocratic” narrative that says kids who do well in school do so because of “individual competence, effort and responsibility.” The authors believe this meritocratic narrative is a myth and that homework — math homework in particular — further entrenches the myth in the minds of teachers and their students. Calarco, Horn and Chen write, “Research has highlighted inequalities in students’ homework production and linked those inequalities to differences in students’ home lives and in the support students’ families can provide.”

Mr. Kang argues:

But there’s a defense of homework that doesn’t really have much to do with class mobility, equality or any sense of reinforcing the notion of meritocracy. It’s one that became quite clear to me when I was a teacher: Kids need to learn how to practice things. Homework, in many cases, is the only ritualized thing they have to do every day. Even if we could perfectly equalize opportunity in school and empower all students not to be encumbered by the weight of their socioeconomic status or ethnicity, I’m not sure what good it would do if the kids didn’t know how to do something relentlessly, over and over again, until they perfected it. Most teachers know that type of progress is very difficult to achieve inside the classroom, regardless of a student’s background, which is why, I imagine, Calarco, Horn and Chen found that most teachers weren’t thinking in a structural inequalities frame. Holistic ideas of education, in which learning is emphasized and students can explore concepts and ideas, are largely for the types of kids who don’t need to worry about class mobility. A defense of rote practice through homework might seem revanchist at this moment, but if we truly believe that schools should teach children lessons that fall outside the meritocracy, I can’t think of one that matters more than the simple satisfaction of mastering something that you were once bad at. That takes homework and the acknowledgment that sometimes a student can get a question wrong and, with proper instruction, eventually get it right.

Students, read the entire article, then tell us:

Should we get rid of homework? Why, or why not?

Is homework an outdated, ineffective or counterproductive tool for learning? Do you agree with the authors of the paper that homework is harmful and worsens inequalities that exist between students’ home circumstances?

Or do you agree with Mr. Kang that homework still has real educational value?

When you get home after school, how much homework will you do? Do you think the amount is appropriate, too much or too little? Is homework, including the projects and writing assignments you do at home, an important part of your learning experience? Or, in your opinion, is it not a good use of time? Explain.

In these letters to the editor , one reader makes a distinction between elementary school and high school:

Homework’s value is unclear for younger students. But by high school and college, homework is absolutely essential for any student who wishes to excel. There simply isn’t time to digest Dostoyevsky if you only ever read him in class.

What do you think? How much does grade level matter when discussing the value of homework?

Is there a way to make homework more effective?

If you were a teacher, would you assign homework? What kind of assignments would you give and why?

Classroom Management

Classroom ideas, classroom community, sending home student work.

Sending home graded and ungraded student work can become overwhelming quickly. Papers that can stay at home can easily get mixed up with papers that need to be returned to school, and it really is a mess.

Throughout this post, you’ll find Amazon Affiliate links. This means I receive a small commission if you purchase something through that link, at no extra cost to you, that helps keep my blog running and helps fund giveaways!

Easily organize and manage sending home graded and ungraded student work with a green graded work folder for each student.

What student work do I send home?

I send home all student work. Sometimes it’s graded, and sometimes it’s practice, and I just place a checkmark at the top to show that I’ve seen it.

However, this doesn’t include work done in notebooks.

When do I send home student work?

I only send home completed assignments and graded work once a week. ⁣

Every Wednesday, I pass out Green Graded Work Folders during pack-up. Students know (because we practice it and I remind them LOTS) to write the date.

Then, parents know to look for the Green Graded Work Folder, take out the papers, and sign the space next to the date.

Parents know anything in the folder is theirs to keep and doesn’t need to return to school.

Even though I call them “Green Graded Work Folders” anything that doesn’t need to come back to school goes in this folder.

Sending Home Student Work on Wednesdays

I picked Wednesdays kind of randomly, but also, kind of with purpose.

Wednesdays give me a little bit of time to grade work from the previous week without needing to spend my weekend grading all the things.

Plus, Wednesdays also give me time after papers are sent home to follow up with students on Thursday and Friday if necessary. I was worried that sending home folders on Fridays would mean they’d be lost to the weekend.

What happens if parents don’t sign?

If parents forget to sign the green graded work folder cover, it’s not really a huge deal. In this case, I highlight that week’s line, and send it home again the next week.

What happens if the papers come back?

If a student returns their graded work folder and there are still papers inside, I take them out, staple them together, hand them to the student, and tell them to give them to their parents. I remind them that these papers get to stay at home.

What about missing Green Graded Work Folders?

Every year, a few students lose their folders. Typically, I give students a new one and we keep it moving.

If I’ve given the same student a new folder more twice, I just staple or paperclip their papers togethers, and send them home on the same day I send home Green Graded Work Folders.

What about papers that need to return to school?

My students have a binder that goes back and forth from school to home daily. Papers, like permission slips, go in the front left pocket.

Have you ever sat down to complete your homework only to realize you left some important component (like a worksheet or textbook) at school? Don’t freak out! You have many options for getting ahold of what you need or finding a suitable replacement. If all else fails, you may be able to complete the assignment when you return to school.

Getting a Copy of a Worksheet

Step 1 Photocopy a friend’s worksheet for an easy solution.

  • If you have a scanner and printer or a copy machine, you can complete this task at home.
  • Most printing places charge $0.10 for a single black and white copy.

Katie Styzek

  • Be sure to use clear grammar, complete sentences, and good etiquette in your email.
  • You can only use this method once or twice before your teacher will become frustrated with you.
  • Your teacher may be less than pleased that you don’t have the worksheet if you’ve had an extended period of time to complete it rather than if it was assigned that day.

Finding a Textbook

Step 1 Find your book at the library if possible.

  • You can search an online card catalog or call the library to see if they have your book. Then go there in person and check it out.
  • Sometimes the textbook may be “on reserve,” meaning you will have to work with it in the library.

Step 2 Search for the book online if you can’t find a hard copy.

  • Ideally, you will want to try to find the exact same edition, but a different edition will be better than nothing. Keep in mind, though, that the chapter or worksheet may be different from the one your teacher assigned.
  • If you can find out the ISBN code for your textbook, this can be a good way to search as well.

Step 3 Borrow a friend’s book for a quick remedy.

Completing the Homework Later

Step 1 Go to school early the next day to try to finish it before class.

  • If you need to get into your classroom, you can email your teacher to see if they can let you in early.

Step 2 Work during any free periods if you need to.

  • You can work during any free period, recess, or lunch in order to get the assignment done.

Step 3 Stay after school so you can turn the assignment in that day.

  • It is likely that your teacher will need to stay for a little while anyway, and they may respect your initiative to get the late assignment complete as soon as possible.

Step 4 Email it to your teacher if allowed.

  • If you have multiple email accounts, use the one associated with your school.
  • Once again, use proper grammar, complete sentences, and good etiquette when you communicate with your teacher via email. [6] X Research source

Step 5 Get an extension if necessary.

  • Keep in mind that if this happens more than once, your teacher may be less likely to give you an extension.

  • Try making a mini bag that will carry all the supplies needed to do homework, like an extra copy of every textbook, lined paper, a ruler, a protractor, etc. Thanks Helpful 1 Not Helpful 0

Tips from our Readers

  • Ask a friend who's in class with you to take a quick picture of the worksheet and text or email it to you. This saves you a trip to their house or having to meet up.
  • As a last resort, be honest with your teacher, explain why you don't have the assignment, and ask if you can stay late or email it to them to avoid a late grade.
  • For a textbook, call the school library first to ask if they have a copy on hold. If not, search online for either an ebook version or a different edition.
  • Check whether your teacher uses an online platform for assignments. If so, log in and see if the worksheet is posted there to print out.
  • When emailing your teacher to ask for materials, be extra polite and use proper spelling/grammar so they're more likely to help you out.
  • If you can't complete the work at home, get to school early the next morning and finish during free periods or study hall time instead.

For example, if you order 10 pages, you get a 30% discount, which takes your fee per page to just $7.9!

Of course, you can buy additional features or request a personal writer, and that will up your price a bit, but those features are entirely optional. And remember, we offer a plagiarism report for free!

All you have to do is ask.

How Studyfy chooses writers for your tasks

All the freelancers that we cooperate with have to go through a strict and thorough vetting process to join our remote staff team.

The first stage to letting them help with your ‘do homework for me’ requests is checking their background.

We make sure the candidate is a native English speaker and has provided a valid diploma from an accredited university. We’re looking for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees.

After that comes the testing. The candidates are tested for English proficiency, aptness in their discipline of choice and ability to write and follow academic guidelines. In case they pass, they take a test ‘ write my essay ’ order.

Afterward, under close supervision, the new writers are allowed to take small orders. They work under the guidance of their managers, and only if the feedback from the customer is positive can they proceed to work independently.

We take our writers seriously. Even if they don’t work with our in-house team, they still represent our service, and hence, we need to pick the best of the best.

Studyfy provides you with top-notch "do my homework online " services

The quality of homework services here at Studyfy is truly unmatched. We’ve completed thousands of orders and are not planning to stop. If you’re still unsure of who can do my homework, you should get acquainted with our experts.

While the paper is being written, you can communicate with the writer and really tap into their knowledge of the topic. It’s such a great learning opportunity!

Sometimes, you’re bad at a certain class, not because you’re just untalented but because your professor explains it in a way that doesn’t suit you.

That’s when googling ‘do my online homework for me’ can be a great option to take a hard task off your hands and also learn something along the way!

Could you send me my homework corrected / corrected homework?

Dear friends, Is it correct to write on a chat(Student to Teacher): "Could you send me my corrected homework? I'd say or write: "Could you send me my homework corrected? But to be honest, I prefer to use different phrases, such as: "Could you send me feedback about my tasks? The context is: A student sent me his homework and he is asking me for correction and feedback. Thanks dear friends!

The Newt

"Could you send me my corrected homework?" and "Could you send me my homework corrected?" are both correct (but not the plural "homeworks" that is in your title). "Homework corrected" puts more emphasis on the fact that you would like to receive it in a corrected state rather than an uncorrected state.

Gisellee said: Thanks The Newt for replying sooner! Yes, he wrote "homework" But I'm also confident about those forms. However, is it better the order that I used? ("homework corrected") , for me, it's more melodic. Click to expand...
The Newt said: "Homework corrected" implies that the homework could either be sent to you in a corrected state or an uncorrected state, and that you are expressing a preference for the corrected state. "Corrected homework" assumes that this isn't an issue. Click to expand...

I couldn’t believe my luck when I found these guys to do my assigment. The essay turned out great. I submitted it with days to spare and got an A!

I never needed anyone to do my writing until I got a part-time job in college. Good thing I did my research and chose this website to outsource all the essays. I’ve been using their services for a year now, and they have never let me down.

When I realized I couldn’t keep up with football practice and essays, I decided to hire someone to complete the homework for me. I chose this site for affordable prices and excellent support. Don’t plan on replacing it with others.

If you need cheap, quick and professional writing, I definitely recommend Homeworkfor.me. I got two As and a B with them without a single revision!

Can I trust your writers to do my homework?

Which academic disciplines or areas do you cover for assistance with assignments?

We cover a wide range of subjects and topics. Whether it's math, science, history, literature, or any other academic field, our experts are well-equipped to handle diverse assignments and provide comprehensive assistance.

How do I ensure confidentiality when seeking help with homework?

Who Will Do My Homework for Me?

In the age of the gig economy, it’s no wonder you can rent an apartment the world over, hail a driver through your smartphone, or pay people to do your homework. There are dozens of quality writing services online, and most work just like Uber or Airbnb. They connect freelance academic writers looking for extra cash with overworked students in need of help.

Buying homework is just like calling an Uber. You explain what you need, and the system automatically finds the person best suited to meet your requirements. The person doing homework for you is usually someone with a degree in your field of study with a couple of years of writing experience and a good reputation among students. And the best thing is that you don’t have to waste time screening writers; the writing company does the legwork for you. Even the payments work almost the same as with Uber, with the bulk of the sum going to the writer and a small commission awarded to the writing company that connected you two.

Will You Do My Homework for Me Cheap?

Do you want good paper or cheap paper?

There can’t be a third option that’s both good and cheap because we don’t live in a perfect world. The truth is there are cheaper services, but they usually hire undergrads from third-world countries to do the job. So when they pay their writers $2 per page, they can afford to charge you $8 and still make a profit.

We go the other way around and start with the best writers money can buy - professionals with proven credentials and writing experience. Of course, they don’t work for free, but we still manage to keep the prices manageable for most students. And if you want to save more - order early and look out for discount codes and special offers.

Why Should I Trust You to Do My Homework for Me Online?

When you think, ‘I need help with my homework,’ online services aren’t the first thing on your mind, especially with all the rumors about scams and plagiarism. And while there are some shady companies out there, you can entrust us with your assignments, as thousands of students have done already. To keep you safe, we guarantee

We respect your desire to keep the details of your order, your name and your college to yourself. And we will never disclose this information to third parties. You can be sure that no one from your class or school will learn about our deal unless you tell them. So be cool, and your little secret will remain safe with us.

Honest Refunds

We cannot promise to give your money back if you notice a couple of typos because our writers deserve to get paid for doing their jobs. What we do guarantee is to pay you back if you notice plagiarism or your paper is late. We are 100% sure that won’t happen, so you are perfectly safe every time you come to us asking, ‘Will you do homework for me?’

24/7/365 Support

You are not the only one to remember urgent assignments in the middle of the night or on the holiday weekend. Luckily for you, our writers are scattered across the time zones, along with our support agents, so there’s no chance you’ll be left alone with your school troubles. Reach out via live chat, email, or phone anytime, and we’ll be there to help.

Affordable Prices

We found the balance between high-quality writing and student-friendly rates for a real win-win. Just make sure you place the order as early as possible to enjoy the lowest prices. And keep an eye out for special offers and promo codes. Get in touch with our support team to get a first-time or regular client offer.

Tailored Writing

We don’t believe in standard solutions and make sure every piece is crafted with your specific requirements in mind. For best results, when you come to us asking, ‘Do my homework online for me,’ please provide us with a sample of your writing and your professor’s rubric. This way, you’ll get a paper that meets your needs to a T, and it will never raise suspicions in school.

Fast Delivery

Our experts can produce a solid paper in under six hours because they know the ins and outs of their respective fields and keep an eye out for the latest research trends. Unlike you, they don’t have to waste days looking for credible sources or outlining every argument. Their writing experience ensures you’ll get your assignment just in time.

It’s Always a Good Idea to Pay People to Do Your Homework

It’s all about your school and life goals.

If you got into college for a degree and better employment prospects, you need to get through the four years as fast as possible and make most of the networking opportunities the campus presents. In this case, when you ask us, ‘Write my homework for me,’ you’re making a wise and profitable investment in your future.

If you’re in school to learn and become the best in the field, it pays to outsource the assignments from all those required classes that have nothing to do with your major. There’s no sense in wasting your valuable time on homework that won’t do anything for your career prospects. It’s smarter to let professionals handle it while you focus on what really matters to you.

If you’re already in college and still have no idea what you want to do with your life, now is the time to sample everything campus life has to offer. And getting out of homework is the first step towards finding your passion, especially if your assignments are nothing but a series of dull essays on the same stale topics.

The Benefits of Write My Homework For Me Services

It’s not just about saving your time or getting out of boring schoolwork. When you buy a paper from us, we throw in a few free extras to make your experience even better.

Free Revisions

We guarantee your assignment will be perfect, and these aren’t empty promises. Our writers are that good, but they are also not afraid of producing the second, the third, or the tenth version of your paper. They will work on revisions for free until you are completely satisfied with the results. The only concession we ask of you is to give our writers time to rework your assignments. With sufficient leeway, they can work wonders.

Free Outline

We’ll throw in an outline of the paper to help you make sense of the structure. It may seem like a nuisance for an essay, but outlines are invaluable for long-form assignments, like research and term papers. Use it as you see fit, either to browse core ideas of the paper at a glance or as a guide to follow when working on a future homework assignment.

Perfect Formatting

We are taught not to judge books by their covers, but we all do, nonetheless. And that’s why every paper you get from us is formatted to perfection according to the current guidelines of your chosen style. You won’t find a single missing citation or reference, all because we stand on guard against plagiarism, even if it’s unintended or accidental.

Plagiarism-free

If plagiarism is your biggest concern when you’re thinking, ‘I want someone to write my homework,’ you can forget about your worries once you place an order with us. You won’t find a single sentence copypasted into your paper, a borrowed idea or an uncredited piece of data. Even if your school uses Turnitin or similar software, your homework will never raise red flags, and you’ll be 100% safe from any suspicions or accusations.

Luckily, our writers know a thing or two about large-scale projects and can come up with a logical structure and insightful content for your term paper. Make sure to get an outline with your assignment to show to your professor as proof of your hard work.

Case Study Help

One of the more exciting college assignments is among our writers’ all-time favorites. They love looking into individual cases, researching causes, dissecting problems, and developing viable solutions. Of course, we can come up with case study topics on our own, but if your professor provides a prompt, it will save your writer time better spent on perfecting your order.

Bibliography Writing Help

Professionals will unearth credible sources, browse and analyze them to build an impressive annotated bibliography for your research project, thesis, or dissertation. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about automated bibliography formatting mistakes. Our writers can tell MLA and APA apart in their sleep and format references to perfection regardless of your professor’s preferred style.

  • Nursing and Medicine. With our help, you’ll finally get a good night’s sleep and find the time for something other than classes and field practice. Let our writers take over your Anatomy, Biology, and Nursing homework while you get back on your feet.
  • Economics, Finance, Investment, Accounting, and more. Our experts love any class that deals with money-making, so you know they’ll do their best to deliver top-notch essays, case studies, and term papers.

How can I get help with my homework?

Getting in touch with our support team is the easy way. Let them know what you need, and they’ll take you through the order process and keep you updated on its status. Or you can just set up an account and place an order like you would at Amazon. Once you pay for the assignment, we’ll take care of the rest.

Is paying someone to do your homework illegal?

Not really. We don’t know of any country that has laws against paying for getting your homework done. However, you should check with your school’s code and regulations. Some colleges and universities frown upon getting professional writing help.

How much does it cost for assignment help?

The prices range from around $10 per page to over $200 per page. High-school-level assignments on extended deadlines are the cheapest, while rush-order admission essays are the most expensive. Doctorate-level writing is also quite expensive. If you’re not sure you can afford to pay for homework help, use our calculator to get an instant quote.

Is assignment writing illegal?

No! It’s like asking if doing homework is illegal. You don’t see tutors, writing coaches or TAs getting arrested and put behind bars for helping students complete their assignments. For now, there’s not a single country in the world that prohibits assignment writing.

Who can help me with my homework?

There are plenty of offers of homework help online, both among freelance writers and academic help agencies. All you have to do is decide who you’re willing to trust - an anonymous freelancer or a respectable company with years of experience and hundreds of reviews from happy customers. Besides, no writer can cover your every class, but essay writing companies employ hundreds of experts who can do your homework on any topic.

Can I hire someone to do my homework?

You sure can. And with us, you don’t have to waste time choosing the perfect writer for your assignment. We’ll do the heavy lifting for you and find the right person to take care of your homework. As long as you provide us with enough details about your paper, we guarantee to match you with an expert.

What should I look for in a homework company?

Good reputation, realistic prices, transparent terms, and policies are all signs of a reliable writing service. So take your time when researching company background and genuine reviews, read the fine print in legalese. And don’t fall for the cheapest rates you see because they will likely cost you extra in the end.

Can you do my homework for me on any topic?

We employ hundreds of experts in dozens of academic fields, so there’s a 99.9% chance we can do your homework on any topic. But if you think that your major is too obscure or complex for us to handle, get in touch with our support team before placing an order. They will be able to look up the experts in your field and answer any questions about them.

Can you do my homework for me with zero plagiarism?

That’s the only way we do it! Plagiarism is a blight on academia that we’re set on eradicating one original paper at a time. So any piece you get from us will pass plagiarism checks like Turnitin with flying colors.

Can you deliver my homework within the deadline?

Sure, we promise your homework will be ready within the timeframe you set. Even if you only give our expert six hours to work on your assignment, you will receive it with time to spare.

Will you rework my order if it does not meet my requirements?

Sure, we offer free revisions for a reason. While our experts are good, they can’t always hit a bullseye on the first try. Feel free to send your assignment for revision with comments on what you want to be changed, and you’ll get an improved version within 24 hours. Please remember that your revision instructions should be in line with your initial requirements.

Don't say yes when caller asks 'Can you hear me now?'

homework send me

Is someone asking "Can you hear me?" on the phone when you pick up? If so, hang up. It could be a scam.

The "Can you hear me" scam has been targeting consumers for quite a few years. It's unclear exactly how the scam might play out, but consumer advocates, including the Better Business Bureau, say it's better to hang up and not engage.

What's the danger of the can you hear me scam?

It's likely the scammers are trying to get you to say "yes" or record your voice, which can then be used or edited to make it seem like you authorized something that you didn't, according to a scam alert from the BBB.

The BBB said it continues to receive reports to its Scam Tracker, the organization's tool that keeps an eye on reported scams across the country.

Usually, the caller will hang up immediately after you respond to the question "Can you hear me?," the alert said. However, some consumers report that the calls can also be about banking, vacation packages, warranties and Medicare cards, the BBB said. The callers may be impersonating a business like your bank or another financial institution, a government agency, or an insurance company, the agency said.

“We encourage people to report this and other scams to BBB’s Scam Tracker," BBB spokeswoman Melanie McGovern told USA TODAY. "It helps to warn others that this activity is happening again. If you get a call, simply hang up without saying anything."

The BBB said that so far, no reports in the Scam Tracker mention monetary loss, though the agency is unsure if any victims have reported losses to other authorities. "However, it’s unclear how the scams will play out over time or if the targets will be victimized later," the BBB said.

How does the can you hear me scam work?

Here's how the scam works: You get a call from someone who quickly asks, “Can you hear me?” They want you to answer “Yes,” which you'd likely do instinctively, the BBB said.

The call might even be awkward or the person on the other line may say they're having trouble with their headset or that they'll call you back, "but in fact, the 'person' may be a robocall recording your conversation, and that 'Yes' answer you gave could later be edited to make it sound like you authorized a major purchase," the BBB said in its alert.

That yes could also confirm the scammer got a real working number, which could mean further targeting for scams, the BBB said.. The FCC in February issued a ruling making  artificial intelligence-generated voices in robocalls illegal. Still other variations of the scam, the BBB, said, may include asking "Is this (fill in your name)" or another question, which would prompt a yes from you. The caller may not hang up right away either and may continue the conversation to attempt to steal your personal information or record more of your voice," the BBB said.

Beware: Pharmacist and her license were targeted by scammers. How to avoid becoming a victim.

What should I do?

Here are some tips from the BBB:

◾ Use Caller ID to screen calls and consider not answering numbers you don't know). If it's urgent, they'll call you back, the BBB said. The BBB suggests reading the FCC’s article on how to stop unwanted robocalls and texts.

◾ Just hang up.  Scammers will change their methods as the public catches on, the BBB said, so be on the lookout for other questions designed to get you to say "yes," the BBB said.

◾ Make a note of the number  and report it to  BBB.org/ScamTracker  to alert others. The BBB said it shares Scam Tracker information with government and law enforcement agencies, so all information is helpful.

◾ Join the Do Not Call Registry   (DoNotCall.gov) to limit telemarketing and sales calls. This might not cut down on scam calls, since they don't pay attention to the law, but it will cut down on your overall calls, the BBB said.

◾ Check your bank and credit card statements regularly for charges you didn't make. Also, review your telephone and cellphone bills, the BBB said. Scammers could use your "yes" to authorize charges you didn't really OK, the BBB said. "This is called 'cramming,' and it’s illegal. If you’re worried, notify your bank and credit card company. They may be able to put an alert on your accounts for unauthorized transactions or freeze your credit cards temporarily," the BBB said.

Low and high frequency excitations: ω < ω n and ω > ω n

  • The top animation below shows the particular solution for the response corresponding to an excitation frequency that is less than the natural frequency. For this range of excitation frequencies, the response is in phase with the base motion.
  • The lower animation is for the excitation frequency larger than the natural frequency. As expected, this response is 180° out of phase with the excitation.

Are these phase differences apparent to you as you view the animations?

For this problem, would it be correct to approach the system treating xb and x separately, as displacement of b (xb) is not necessarily going to be equivalent to the displacement of the bar (x)?

Yes, xb and x are treated separately. You must use the equation for xb given in the problem and sub it into the EOM. This is the base excitation caused by a moving support.

Similar to H6.N, this problem will also require separate FBD's in order to relate the motion of the two disks. Remember that the different radius's of the disks will cause their motion in the x direction to be different, but it can easily be found with kinematics.

It can be useful again to separate the free body diagrams. In addition, In this problem we also need to relate x to the right theta values which are impacted by the radius.

For this problem, start by drawing a FBD diagram for both of the disk and the bar. I found it easier to sum up the moments around the centerpoint of the disks, and then sum up forces in the x direction for the bar. From there you can solve for the EOM and therefore the natural frequency.

Drawing the FBD of each circle and the block helps to show the forces acting on the system as well as the inertia on each of the circles. It is also beneficial to convert from theta to x-components when attempting the kinematics/EOM portion of the calculations.

The kinematics equations are directly from the cross product of theta_ddot and r as well as theta_dot and r. It was helpful for me to fully write this out once to remember where it is coming from.

Would both of the disks have the same IC (contact with the block)? How would the rotations for both the disks be related?

The IC of the disks are their own centers. I would relate the rotations of the disks not by theta but by their contact points to the bar. Give each disk its own theta and then set each theta equal to their equivalent x/r ratio based on their radii.

It's useful to separate the system into different FBD's for each part. Also, relating x to theta is important in this problem.

I found this problem to be similar to homework H6.N in the method of using friction, otherwise it posed a new challenge of the rollers being pinned.
