Pokemon GO 2023 Festival of Lights: All Field Research Tasks & Rewards

The yearly Pokemon GO Festival of Lights celebration is back for 2023, and it has brought a number of new Field Research Tasks for players to pick up and complete!

The new Field Research Tasks for this year’s celebration have some great rewards, including a trio of light-themed Pokemon.

Spinning a PokeStop or Gym Photo Disc from 10 AM local time on November 7 to 8 PM local time on November 12 could give you one of the event Field Research Tasks for the 2023 Festival of Lights.

These are all of the limited-time Field research Tasks available during the 2023 Festival of Lights event:

Out of the Pokemon you can catch from completing Field Research Tasks, you can encounter the shiny versions of Darumaka and Morelull. However, the odds of you finding either of these shinies are very low.

Meanwhile, shiny Tadbulb has not come to Pokemon GO yet, so it is not available.

Despite this, you’ll still want to catch as many Tadbulbs as you can. After all, you don’t know when it will next return to the game after the end of the event!

It’s important to remember that even if you can only pick up these limited-time Field Research Tasks until 8 PM local time on November 12, when the Festival of Lights ends, you can complete them at any time!

Pokémon Go: all Field Research Tasks in December 2023

Aside from Spotlight Hours and 5-Star Raids , each new month brings a round of fresh Field Research Tasks to the table in Pokémon Go .

You receive these quests when spinning the photo discs at PokéStops with each of the landmarks granting you one task per day. Each mission comes with its own reward such as a Pokémon encounter, a few items, or mega energy. Completing seven Field Research Tasks on seven different days will lead to a Research Breakthrough, which comes with a Pokémon encounter and a larger item reward.

Here are all Field Research Tasks you can complete in Pokémon Go in December  2023 .

Various Field Research Tasks may also contain item rewards instead of Pokémon encounters.

Pokémon Go: Research Breakthrough rewards in December 2023

Completing seven Field Research Tasks on seven different days – it does not have to be a consecutive streak – will grant you access to a Research Breakthrough . In addition to a random assortment of items a Research Breakthrough will reward you with a Pokémon encounter.

Previously, this reward would change on a monthly basis, but with Season 9 Mythical Wishes developer Niantic introduced seasonal rewards. You will now encounter one out of a possible pool of six Pokémon after achieving a Research Breakthrough.

• Furfrou (Natural) (s)

In addition, you gain 2,000 Stardust, 3,000 XP, and one out of the following list of item rewards:

• 3x Rare Candy
• 5x Pinap Berry
• 20x Pokéball
• 5x Ultra Ball
• 1x Sinnoh Stone
• 1x Unova Stone

You can store up to 100 completed Field Research Tasks at any time.

Some players will save up specific tasks such as quests with Stardust rewards or a certain Pokémon and turn them in at a more opportune time. This could be an event with a bonus to Stardust gains or a Spotlight Hour granting double candies for catching Pokémon. Such a move ensures that you gain the maximum amount of rewards possible from these tasks.

“It’s a Rocket World” is the latest Giovanni research quest in Pokémon Go.

Making its debut in late March 2024 as part of the “ World of Wonders: Taken Over ” event, it’s the usual Team Go Rocket research, which ends with an encounter and opportunity to catch Shadow Groudon .

“It’s a Rocket World” is part of a long line of Giovanni research quests, which started back in 2019 with “ A Troubling Situation .” If “It’s a Rocket World” is not appearing for you, first clear the most recent Giovanni quest in your quest log — the previous one was October 2023’s “ Showdown in the Shadows ” — to allow this new quest to become available.

‘It’s a Rocket World’ tasks and rewards

“It’s a Rocket World” Special Research will be available until the next Giovanni quest and highlighted Shadow Legendary encounter, which rolls out every few months. Once unlocked, there is no time limit to complete the quest.

Step 1 of 5

• Catch 15 Pokémon (5 Pinap Berries)
• Purify 2 shadow Pokémon (10 Poké Balls)
• Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket grunts (1 Mysterious Component)

Rewards: 1,500 XP, Aipom encounter

Step 2 of 5

• Catch 20 Pokémon (5 Pinap Berries)
• Purify 5 shadow Pokémon (10 Great Balls)
• Defeat 6 Team Go Rocket Grunts (3 Mysterious Components)

Rewards: 2,00 XP, Misdreavus encounter

Step 3 of 5

• Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Arlo (2,500 XP)
• Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Cliff (2,500 XP)
• Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Sierra (2,500 XP)

Rewards: 2,500 XP, 1 Super Rocket Radar

Step 4 of 5

• Find the Team Go Rocket Boss (10 Hyper Potions)
• Battle the Team Go Rocket Boss (10 Ultra Balls)
• Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss (6 Max Revives)

Rewards : 3,000 XP, Croagunk encounter

You’ll be able to catch the final Shadow Pokémon in Giovanni’s team once you have used your Super Rocket Radar. This varies depending on when you play the quest; from March 2024 until when the next Giovanni quest debuts, this will be Shadow Groudon .

Team Go Rocket Takeover event changes

As well as the above quest, the “ World of Wonders: Taken Over ” event is also host to a Team Go Rocket Takeover until March 31 at 11:59 p.m. in your local time , with the following changes:

• Boosted Team Go Rocket balloon spawns and PokéStop encounters
• Shadow Pokémon can forget Charged Attack Frustration with a Charged TM
• Rocket Grunts change their Shadow Pokémon line-ups
• Leaders Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo change their team line-ups
• Giovanni changes team line-up

Ditto is one of the most unique and hard Pokémon to find in Pokémon GO, disguising itself as eleven different alternate Pokémon in April 2024.

One of the most unique Pokémon in Pokémon GO , Ditto, is back for April 2024, with a new list of disguises. Ditto is known for being one of the hardest Pokémon to catch in Pokémon GO , with even experienced Trainers rarely finding any sightings of it. As opposed to the majority of other Pokémon, Ditto can't be found in the conventional way . Ditto transforms into other Pokémon in battle and requires a unique method to catch them in Pokémon GO .

Ditto will disguise itself as several Pokémon in Pokémon GO , which, when caught, will transform back to Ditto.

Ditto disguises rarely change, with the list of Pokémon it can transform into lasting a number of months before updating. Unlike Giovanni's team line-up , which changes monthly, the Pokémon Ditto can transform into has stayed the same since it changed in December 2023. You can use regular Incense or your Daily Adventure Incense to increase the number of spawns in your location to give you a better chance of catching a Ditto this month.

How To Beat Sierra In Pokémon GO (April 2024)

The different Pokémon disguising themselves as Ditto in April 2023 haven't changed from March 2023. For this month Ditto can appear as eleven different Pokémon spanning across the first seven Generations of the series . Most Pokémon that Ditto can appear as fairly common types, increasing your chances of finding one.

From the original Generation 1, Ditto can disguise itself as four different Pokémon, Oddish, Koffing, Rhyhorn or Goldeen . The most common Pokémon that Ditto can disguise itself are Gen 2 Spinarak, Gen 4 Bidoof, or Gen 7 Stufful. Ditto can also rarely be caught through special research tasks, but there aren't currently any of these in Pokémon GO .

While a lot of luck is required, if you see any of the above eleven Pokémon at one of your nearby Pokestops, you should catch them, and eventually, one of them will turn into the elusive Ditto in Pokémon GO .

On April 1, 2024, Pokemon GO's An Excellent Opportunity event will go live, bringing new Research Tasks and bonuses to enjoy.

Pokemon GO is constantly keeping the game updated with various timed events that bring forth a series of mechanics for players to utilize. From participating in special Raids to completing Research Tasks to earn rewards and encounters, there is usually something for all Trainers to enjoy.

On April 1, 2024, Pokemon GO will be running a 12-hour event titled 'An Excellent Opportunity.' - an event that focuses on making Excellent Throws during encounters with wild Pokemon . For this reason, knowing the Research that will be available and tasks that are to come during this event will be very helpful to know in advance, letting you plan your approach to the event ahead of time.

Pokemon GO: How To Get Shiny Shadow Mewtwo

Pokemon GO's An Excellent Opportunity event goes live on April 1, 2024 , and will run between 12 AM and 11:59 PM, local time . During this event, a special bonus will be put in place, turning any throws that are Nice Throws or better, into Excellent Throws . To reflect this event bonus, much of the Field Research Tasks and Timed Research also revolves around achieving Excellent Throws and can be completed to gain a variety of rewards.

As this event is only available for one day, the Research Tasks are thankfully kept pretty simplistic and easy to complete. For this reason, you should have no problems obtaining these rewards, as all of these Tasks can be achieved during regular wild encounters. If you're unable to head out and about or need some extra wild Pokemon to provide you with encounters and tally up your Excellent Throws, then stocking up on some Incense may be helpful.

Pokemon GO developers at Niantic have released Special Research for the Road to Sinnoh 2024 event. This event mainly revolves around the Gen 4 Pokemon games. The Road to Sinnoh Special Research comprises multiple tasks and rewards, including two Badges.

The Pokemon GO Road to Sinnoh event starts on Thursday, February 15, at 10 AM and ends on Sunday, February 25, at 6 PM Local Time . Participants of the Road to Sinnoh Special Research have the opportunity to get a Diamond Badge and a Pearl Badge, along with other in-game items. After completing a specific path, one can also get their hands on either Origin Forme Dialga or Origin Forme Palkia . Pokemon GO trainers can access the unique Road to Sinnoh Special Research, which splits into two branches. Diamond and Pearl are the two segments of the Special Research, and picking one of them leads to an encounter with Origin Forme Dialga or Origin Forme Palkia with Special Attacks.

These Special Attacks are Roar of Time and Spacial Rend; both possess effects while using Pokemon GO items and traversing. Both of these effects are extremely useful; Roar of Time costs 5,000 Stardust and 5 Candy but can pause the timer of items like Incense , Lucky Eggs, and Star Pieces for 6 minutes. Regarding Spacial Rend, it activates for 10 minutes, and during its runtime, the attack can increase the area where players can find Pokemon.
