Design and Technology worksheets
These worksheets are designed to support GCSE D&T learning.
The topics are great for student-led learning at home or in class with a group, and all include a “what you need to know” section. Every key topic has an example of a calculation - as well as the answers - making these ideal for independent use.
The questions included within these worksheets have all been written by a former senior examiner and will allow students to test themselves without the pressure of an exam setting.
Browse the set or why not download them all, sharing your learning with us @IETeducation on social media.
Please note that these resources and experiments have been specifically designed to be carried out with adult supervision or direction as appropriate, and it is recommended that the instructions are followed safely. All resources and experiments are carried out at your own risk.

Design and Technology Teaching Resources (Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4)
Our free key stage 3 and key stage 4 teaching resources for design and technology have been created to lead students through different processes with the help of real-life situations from the INEOS TEAM UK’s challenge for the America’s Cup, the Formula 1 of international sailing.
The purpose of design and technology programmes for students is to use their imagination and creativity to understand and make products that can solve real and relevant problems across many different contexts. Covering a broad range of topics and disciplines including science, mathematics, engineering and art, design and technology at key stage 3 and 4 will teach pupils how to be innovative, resourceful and capable citizens.
England’s national curriculum aims to ensure that pupils develop creative, technical and practical expertise to use in everyday life, as well as building up knowledge and understanding of skills in order to make prototypes and products for different uses. The subject also teaches pupils to be critical and to evaluate their ideas, as well as understanding the principles of nutrition and cooking.
Free worksheets, lesson ideas and other resources for teachers
STEM Crew offer multiple free teaching resources to make design and technology engaging for both students and teachers, with videos and worksheets that will challenge, encourage and teach pupils.
Our D&T Contextual Challenge has been produced to give students the opportunity to practice a contextual challenge task ahead of their GCSE NEA using the real-life example of the British America’s Cup Team. Covering three sections; Explore, Create and Evaluate, this resource explains the iterative design process before going through each section and starting again to refine designs to make them fit for purpose.
Another great resource is Materials and their uses , which covers the different objects and materials used in the construction of boats and why they are used. This is highly effective used in sequence with our other resources or as a quick learning activity.
Each resource provides a main video which will introduce the topics, the context and the challenge or learning. It will also include a number of worksheets for students to explore the different design and technology challenges these real-life experiences pose, encouraging them to explore, create and evaluate.
Explore all of our design and technology resources here.
If you would like to access these free resources, simply register and provide your organisation. You will then be able to login to watch the videos and download the worksheets for your class to use.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions about STEM Crew, our design and technology resources, or any of our other resources.

Design & Technology GCSE Revision Guide
Our colourful and accessible books encourage reluctant learners to engage in learning. The small, accessible size and colourful pages are more welcoming than other larger textbooks that often disengage learners and prevent them from getting started.
All our Pocket Poster books are written with the learner in mind. That’s why everything is reviewed and tested by consultants, teachers AND STUDENTS. This ensures our content is accessible, easy to digest and ideal for independent study.
Pocket Posters are available in a variety of formats. There’s the physical book, the app and the web version. This means you can access our books and the accompanying assessment activities pretty much anytime, anywhere.
Our free digital Pocket Posters include hundreds of quickfire assessments, which can be used to test students’ levels of understanding and keep track of their progress. They are also handy starter, summary and plenary activities!
What is D&T? Options pack
Resources to help promote Design and Technology in your school, to pupils and parents
This package of leaflets and posters is intended to support school D&T departments to help inform students, parents and others in the school and help make clear the value of studying D&T.
In many schools, performance measures are squeezing the amount of choice pupils have with KS4 subjects. It’s also the case that D&T is often misunderstood, seen as ‘craft’ and not the sophisticated and comprehensive subject it is. To address this and support teachers and departments when promoting GCSE D&T as an option, we have made available the following resources.
Our FREE Options Evening Pack includes:
PowerPoint :
- D&T Options Presentation
PDF Posters:
- Promoting transferable skills with D&T
- Mapping Out Careers
- Choose D&T poster
- Careers Poster
This package of resources can be used flexibly to promote the varied and career pathways that studying D&T GCSE can lead to. The leaflets and posters should be clearly displayed in the D&T department and in prominent communal spaces.
