His ideas and actions continue to influence people today, and he is considered one of the greatest leaders in history. I only hope that I can follow some of his principles in my life.

Salt Satyagraha is considered as one of Gandhi's most famous campaigns, in which he and thousands of others marched to the coast of Gujarat to collect salt from the sea, defying the British law that imposed a tax on salt. This campaign was a symbol of resistance against British rule and became a turning point in the independence movement. Gandhi was also a spiritual leader and believed in the importance of living a simple and humble life. He embraced a philosophy of self-sufficiency and believed that people should rely on their own resources and abilities rather than relying on others.

My Inspiration

One incident that inspires me the most about Gandhi, is the Salt Satyagraha of 1930. This was a non-violent protest against the British-imposed salt tax in India, and it was a significant moment in the Indian independence movement. Gandhi believed that the salt tax was a symbol of British oppression and he saw the Salt Satyagraha as an opportunity to unite the people of India against British rule.

He called for a nationwide protest in which people would march to the sea and collect their own salt, defying the salt tax and the British law that banned the production of salt by Indians.

This incident inspires me because it shows the power of nonviolent resistance and the ability of one person to bring about change. His leadership and determination were instrumental in leading India to independence and his legacy continues to inspire people around the world today.

A good leader must certainly inspire others. A leader must be a role model for his followers. Furthermore, he must motivate them whenever possible. Also, in difficult situations, a leader must not lose hope. How can a leader inspire people if he himself is hopeless?

Honesty is another notable quality of a leader. Honesty and Integrity are important to earn the love of followers. Above all, honesty is essential to win the trust of the people. Probably, every Leadership which loses trust is bound to fail. People will not work with full effort due to an immoral leader.

Good communication is a must for a good leader. This is because poor communication means the wrong message to followers. Furthermore, good communication will increase the rate of work. Also, the chances of mistakes by followers will reduce.

Another important quality is decision making. Above all, if a leader makes poor decisions then other qualities will not matter. Furthermore, good decision making ensures the success of the entire group. If the leader makes poor decisions, then the efforts of followers won’t matter.

A good leader must be an excellent innovator. He must display a creative attitude in his work. Most noteworthy, innovation is a guarantee of survival of a group or innovation. Without creative thinking, progress is not possible.

There is no end to the choice of a favourite leader but as far as I am concerned, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri is my favourite leader. He was born on October 2, 1094, at Mughalsarai, a town of UP. He belonged to a lower middle class family. He was born and brought up in the cradle of poverty.

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri got his early education at Kashi Vidyapeeth. It was the place where he drank the rich springs of Indian culture and civilisation. He moulded his living according to the Indian way of life.

After completing his education, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri turned to the poor condition of his countrymen under the British rule. He could not tolerate the sufferings of his countrymen. He was deeply moved by the starvation and nakedness of his countrymen.

Compelled by these circumstances, he joined Indian politics. He came in contact with great Indian national leaders like Nehru. He worked hard and fought bravely. He became a member of the Servants of the People’s Society. He joined Congress and worked under its leaders who were leading the national movement.

When India got her freedom, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri handled difficult tasks He held important offices in the Indian National Congress and became Union Minister several times As a minister, whether, of Railways, Commerce and Industry or Home Affairs, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri discharged his duties efficiently and satisfactorily.

After the death of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri Shastri became second Prime Minister of free India. So he rose to the topmost position of the land. The tenure of his Prime Ministership from June 1964 till his death (January 11, 1966) at Tashkent would go down in Indian history as a decisive period.

It was this period during which he had to face many grave crises like food, famine and above all Pakistan’s attack on India. But he emerged triumphant from all these ordeals and trials. In the days of the Indo-Pakistan war of September 1965, he gave the country a brave and dedicated leadership.

Shri Shastri was a thorough democrat and staunch nationalist. He was a protagonist of Bhartiya Sanskriti. He was a man of the people. He was a blend of firmness, flexibility patience and perseverance. He possessed the courage of Patel and the temper of Gandhi.

He possessed fine qualities of the head and the heart. He was an astute politician and an honest statesman Keeping his ideals of democracy and secularism alive would perhaps be the best tribute that could be paid to the memory of this patriot and a noble son of India.

My favorite leader is Mahatma Gandhi . Gandhi is a universal symbol of peace and hope. This only came to be due to his relentless struggle against injustice, violence and intolerance. He was an exemplary man with a great personality . All who had the privilege of meeting him in person during his life speak of him with great regard. He was a leader , a visionary and a saint.

His peaceful nature has earned him global recognition. He propagated unity, brotherhood and truth among his brethren. He was a charismatic leader with high principles. He promoted nationalism by urging his fellow Indians to support homespun clothing businesses. This led to a significant decrease in poverty and led to economic changes in Indian lifestyle. He worked tirelessly to eradicate class division and united the people under one flag.

His accomplishments included being a barrister of the highest order. Yet he chose to live his simply, free of materialistic indulgences. He ate simple food and dressed simply. He believed in the truth and stood by it even in the face of great opposition. These qualities made him popular among people and they began to follow his footsteps. India flourished greatly due to the sacrifices and efforts of Gandhi. He led peaceful passive protests known as Satyagraha and worked tirelessly to rid the Indians of oppression from the British tyrants.

Gandhi was an arbiter of peace, truth and justice. He practiced what he preached. He raised his voice for the downtrodden, women and children. He advocated for education and discouraged child marriage practices. He sought to remove the caste differences and promote a sense of community among the masses. His reputation was such that people used to seek him out for advice on matters of great import. Since then scholars have devoted their times into understanding the teachings of Gandhi. The world has seen many leaders. But my favourite leader is Mahatma Gandhi. He is called the Father of the Nation. Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar in Kathiawar, Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was the Diwan of Rajkot. His mother, Putli Bai, was a simple and pious lady.

Gandhi was married to Kasturba at the age of thirteen. He received his early education at Rajkot and after passing his matriculation, went to England for higher studies. He returned to India as a barrister. He then went to South Africa to follow a case. There he was pained to see the deplorable condition of Indians at the hands of foreign rulers. He fought for the rights of Indians living there. His love for the oppressed and the neglected led him to start a movement against this oppression. He came back to India in 1913 and started taking active part in the movement against the British rule.

Gandhiji left his practice as a lawyer and worked for freedom of India. He suffered much for India’s freedom and had to go to jail several times. Gandhi gave a new shape to the freedom movement. He introduced nonviolent methods to fight the Britishers. He became a leader of the masses very soon as he took the movement to the common Indian by caring for the problems of the lowest of the low.

He loved the Harijans and worked for them all his life. He believed in truth and non-violence. He worked for rural upliftment and Hindu-Muslim unity. People of India called him ‘Bapu’. He started many non-violent movements such as “Satyagrah”, “Non Cooperation Movement”, “Quit India Movement” and “Salt Satyagrah”.

Gandhi tried to rid the masses of the fear of the landlord, police and money-lender. He was a staunch Indian, a Hindu, a believer of the principle “work is worship”. He won freedom for India following the path of Ahimsa’ which means non-violence, India became free from the British yoke on 15th August, 1947 because of the persistent efforts of Gandhiji. A maniac, Nathu Ram Godse shot Gandhiji dead on 30th January, 1948, when he was going for his evening prayers. He was a great man in the true sense who lived, worked and died for the sake of his country. He is no more with us but his ideals will remain immortal, and if we follow them, we can also do a great service to our motherland.

My favourite leader is Mahatma Gandhi. His full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The word ‘mahatma’ (great soul) was conferred upon him by his great friend, Rabindranath Tagore, the great Indian poet.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869, at Porbandar in Gujarat. He had his education in India, and then went to study Law in London. And he became a barrister. He practiced law for few years in South Africa. Then Mahatma Gandhi returned to India and joined the Indian National Congress.

He participated in the freedom movement in India. He introduced a new method of non-violence, noncooperation into the movement, considering the helplessness of his unarmed poor countrymen.

Mahatma Gandhi organized mass movement in India, and went to jail several times in his life. In 1942, he began his historic ‘Quit India’ movement and bravely faced all kinds of odds. After long struggle, India won its freedom in 1947.

After the partition of India, Gandhi Ji worked for Hindu-Muslim unity. On 30th January 1948, Nathu Ram Godse, a Hindu fundamentalist, shot him dead for his sympathy towards the Muslim Community. The Indians pay homage to this great leader on his birthday qnd I consider Mahatma Gandhi as the greatest leader of India.

Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest man of the 20th century; he was respected by the whole world. The greatest scientists, Eienstein, said that the coming generation would not easily believe that such a man ever lived on the earth.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, in the Kathiawar region of Gujarat on 2nd October, 1869. He received his early education at home. His father advised his son to go to England for higher studies. In England, Gandhiji qualified for the bar.

But on his return from England he did not succeed as a lawyer. So he went to South Africa. There he found that his countrymen were suffering under cruel laws. He led a protest movement successfully. His movement was entirely non-violent.

Returning to India in 1916, he threw himself into politics. He started the non-violent and noncooperation movements. He was sent to Jail many times and thousands of his countrymen followed him. Subsequently it was renamed as India and Pakistan. This caused untold sufferings to life and property on both sides of the borders. Mahatma Gandhi lived a splendid long life. He achieved the greatest of his wishes—the freedom of India. He also wished to see India prosperous but God willed it otherwise.

Three bullets from a misguided young man finished his glorious career. He met a martyr’s death, for he was pleading for Hindu-Muslim unity and this was not acceptable to certain self interested and shortsighted people.

Our motherland is proud of Shri Moraji Desai who was the present Prime Minister of India. He was a default follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He was a man of principles. He had never deviated from the path of socialism and secularism.

Shri Desai was born on 29 th Feb. 1896 in Gujarat. He was a promising student from the very beginning. His father being a teacher wanted his son to make a man for himself. After passing the matriculation examination he received scholarships. He joined Wilson College in Bombay and graduated from there. He joined Deputy collector at Ahmadabad in 1918. In 1930 he joined the national movement for freedom. Since then he had been serving the country in one capacity or the other.

In the Ministry of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri Desai was the Deputy Prime Minister. He got the gold Control Act passed in Parliament. He had always guarded social values. He was against dirty and sexual scenes in the films as they spoil the character of young people. He was totally against wine. He wants to stop drinking completely. His thoughts it very bad that on one side some people should waste money on drinking wines and o the other a vast number of people should remain hungry. He was of the view that the crimes increase if people use wine.

This true patriot of India resigned from the Ministry of Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1969 as he had differences with her. He was imprisoned during the Emergency. He became the P.M. when Janata Party won the majority in the elections of 1977. All the Constitutions of the Janta party worked under him with full loyalty. He had full faith in democracy. He practices yoga and uses Ayurvedic Medicines. He had learnt the Gita by heart. He was very smart and active. He was an apostle of truth and non-violence. India will definitely rise under his leadership.

Jawaharlal Nehru is my favourite leader. He was born on 14th November 1889 at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Pt. Motilal Nehru and his mother’s name was Swaroop Rani.

Jawaharlal was born with a silver spoon in his mouth as his father was a rich lawyer. However, Motilal was not only after money. He was an enlightened person who took an active part in Indian Independence

Movement and Jawaharlal proved the true son of his father by making great sacrifices for the cause, as he grew up.

Jawaharlal received his early education at home. He went to England for higher studies. He became a barrister and began to practice at Allahabad. But soon he jumped into the struggle for Independence, having been overwhelmingly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, who proved to be his mentor.

He spent the prime of his life in British jails while demanding freedom for his country. He wrote several great books during the period of imprisonment. Some of these books are Glimpses of World History, An Autobiography, Discovery of India, etc. He also wrote his famous letters to his daughter, Priyadarshini Indira during that period.

He loved children in particular. His birthday is still celebrated as Children’s Day and he is known to them as “Chacha Nehru”.

He was a great patriot and leader. After Independence, he became the first Prime Minister of India. India made tremendous progress under his Prime Ministership. He got a place of respect in the world. He was a great lover of world peace. He started the Non-Aligned Movement.

He died on 27th May 1964. He will always be remembered as a great son of Mother India.

At the time of his death, the Manchester Guardian wrote that without Patel, Gandhiji’s ideas would have less practical influence and Nehru’s idealism less scope. He was not only the organizer of the fight for freedom but also the architect of the new state when the fight was over. The same man is seldom successful both as a rebel and a statesman. Sardar Patel was an exception. We learn from his life that it is constructive work alone that can inject meaning into the veins of history and civilization. The great questions of the day are not settled by speeches and slogans but by sound and solid actions just like did by Sardar Patel in his life.

One of the greatest triumphs in the real sense of realism and responsibility of Sardar Patel was the integration of over 500 princely states. In respect of this great task, he has often been compared with Chancellor Bismarck who unified Germany in the late nineteenth century. But Sardar Patel’s achievements are far more remarkable than that of Bismarck. The latter had to deal with only a dozen states in comparison to 561 dealt with by Sardar Patel. Patelji brought about a bloodless revolution as compared to the policy of ‘blood & iron’ of Bismarck. He showed an amazing capacity to size up men and moments and to strike when the iron was hot. His efforts resulted in adding of about eighty thousand square kilometers of land to the Indian Union.

Sardar Patel’s great contribution was warmly recognized by both Gandhiji and Lord Mountbatten. Gandhiji observed about Patel ji: “The task of dealing with the princes was truly formidable, but I am convinced that the Sardar was the only person who could have coped with it. In a letter written by Lord Mountbatten to Patelji, it said “There is no doubt that by far the most important achievement of the present government is the unification of the states into the Dominion of India. Had you failed in this, the results would have been disastrous. But since you succeeded, no one can see the disastrous consequences that you avoided. Nothing has added to the prestige of the present Government more than the brilliant policy you have followed with the states.”

Sardar Patelji first formulated the great design for a well-knit India and then proceeded to materialize it on the ground. He aroused the patriotic sentiments of the princes and reminded them: “We are at a momentous stage in the history of India. By a common endeavour, we can raise the country to new greatness, while lack of unity will expose us to fresh calamities.” At the same time, he took care not to allow any grass to grow underneath his feet. Patel was accused of some time of being anti-Muslim. Unfortunately, in present-day India, this accusation has to be faced by all those who are the real benefactors of the Muslims but who have the courage and commitment of calling a spade a spade and making a distinction between appeasement and fairness.

The approach followed by Patel was direct and dynamic. He often combined his morning walk with the inspection of the streets of the city. Taking a clue from Sardar Patel’s solid and selfless work in the streets of Ahmedabad, Gandhiji advised the municipal councilors all over the country not to seek honors or indulge in mutual rivalries, but, he advised them to have a real spirit of service and convert themselves into unpaid sweepers and road makers and above all take pride in doing so. Patel was an embodiment of probity in public life. The only property he left comprised a few dhotis and kurtas and a suitcase. He did not tolerate malfeasance anywhere. Even a minor impropriety by his party men was sternly dealt with. Patel constructed a model which solved many of the acute problems of sanitation, health, water supply, waste disposal, and traffic.

Today our country is facing a serious threat to its integrity in which administration is collapsing and terrorism is extending its tentacles right from the State of Kashmir to the other end of Coimbatore. At such times, it is essential for the nation particularly the ruling elite remember the teaching and approach of Sardar Patel and ward off the coming anarchy. I still love to read books written by Sardar Patel and get inspiration from his achievements and teachings. I wish that the present leaders must take a cue from his books and make ways for the prosperity of the nation.

So he went to South Africa. There he found that his countrymen were suffering under cruel laws. He led a protest movement successfully. His movement was entirely nonviolent. Returning to India in 1916, he threw himself into politics. He started the non-violent, non-cooperation movements. He was sent to Jail many times and thousands of his countrymen followed him. A long agitation finally forced the British Government to grant independence to India on 15th August 1947, but India was divided into India and Pakistan. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri is the name of the great Indian leader who has served our nation as a great political leader, patriot, and second Prime Minister of India in 1964. Shastri Ji also served the nation earlier as Police Minister, Transport Minister, Rail Minister, and Minister of Home affairs. His leadership qualities of firm determination, patience, honesty in words, and action gave him recognition in the whole world. Apart from simplicity, his unique way of finding solutions for different issues was appreciative. Being raised in a common family he was well known for the pain of the common people in our nation.

Marriage – Shastri was tied the knot with Lalita Devi of Mirzapur on 16th February 1928. Later they became the parents of six children. They were four sons and two daughters.

The feeling of patriotism and interest for the freedom of struggle in Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri rose at a very early age during his schooling. He was first inspired by his school teacher and in this way; he started taking interest in the freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi is my favorite leader. He is called the Father of the Nation. He raised his voice against the British rulers. India got freedom under his leadership.

He was born on October 2, 1869, at Porbandar in Gujarat. His father was the Diwan of Rajkot. His mother’s name was Putlibai. He got his early education at Rajkot.

After passing his matriculation, he went to England for higher studies. He returned from England as a lawyer. He then went to South Africa. In South Africa, he worked to improve the condition of Indians living there.

He returned to India and took part in the Indian Freedom Movement. Truth and non-violence were his great weapons. He worked to remove poverty, economic inequality, and untouchability.

After independence, he worked for Hindu-Muslim unity. On 30th January 1948, he was shot dead by Nathu Ram Godse.

Lal Bahadur Shastri has served India as the second Prime Minister. Fifth note of musical scale. After the sudden death of Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri was made the Prime Minister of the country. Lal Bahadur Shastri was a very great and patriotic leader. Every great leader comes from amongst all of us and such people are born in a common family only. His qualities and work-ability are what make him popular and great. As far as Lal Bahadur Shastri is concerned, he was born on 2 October 1904 at a place called Mughalsarai, seven miles away from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. His father's name was Sharda Prasad Srivastava and mother's name was Ramdulari Devi. When Shastri ji was eighteen months old, his father passed away. After this incident, his mother took him to his father's house and went to Mirzapur and his early education took place under the care of his maternal uncle. Later, he was sent to his uncle's Ramnagar in Varanasi for higher education.

After completing his schooling, he joined Harishchandra High School in class X, and during this time he was greatly influenced by the great leaders of the freedom fighters. Later he completed his graduation from Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi and he was awarded the title of 'Shastri'. He started participating in movements while studying in Vidyapeeth. He was married at the age of 23 to Lalita Devi of Mirzapur on 16 February 1928. After marriage they had four sons and two daughters.

Tesla regains BEV global leader crown from BYD amid tough quarter

Tesla has officially regained the BEV global volume leader crown from BYD in the first quarter despite a tough one.

Could it point to issues in the Chinese EV market?

Tesla has always been a pure electric, battery-electric (BEV), vehicle manufacturer, while most other automakers, including BYD, have dabbled with hybrids, plug-in or others.

BYD’s own vehicle offering has changed a lot over the years and focused more on plug-in hybrids for most of its existence. However, the Chinese manufacturer invested heavily in BEVs in recent years and quickly grew volumes to impressive levels.

In Q4 2023, BYD’s BEV volumes surpassed Tesla’s for the first time despite the latter having a record quarter.

Today, Tesla released its Q1 2024 delivery and production numbers , and despite the worst results it had in years, it was still enough to beat BYD.

Not only did Tesla sell more BEVs than BYD, but it did so by a wide margin. Tesla delivered just over 386,000 BEVs in Q1, while BYD sold just over 300,000 units .

However, when you add PHEVs to BYD’s numbers, its total number balloons up to 626,263 electric vehicles.

Also, while BYD’s BEV sales are down quarter-to-quarter from the one it took Tesla’s BEV crown, they are up 13% year-over-year – unlike Tesla’s, which are down 8%.

Fred. I wish to celebrate both Tesla's and BYD's brilliant successes. Both companies are leading the charge that is forcing ICEV manufacturers to change. BYD and Tesla are different in several ways and their products appeal to very different buyers. I couldn't care which wears the crown but I do care that EVs and hybrids succeed at ICEVs expense.

The performances of both Tesla and BYD are highly dependent on the Chinese auto market, but it’s also obviously more the case for BYD.

I think both performances in Q1 have been affected by the evolving Chinese EV market, including changing incentives and more competition.

While I like to see this BEV global volume crown changing hands, I would like to change hands for new record deliveries rather than major declines in deliveries.

Now, the interesting question is whether or not Tesla can keep delivering higher BEV volumes than BYD through out the rest of the year. It’s difficult to say. It will have to address this demand issue and find a way to work through its growing inventory.

‘Sheeps Clothing’

Kyle McConaghy’s knockout neo-noir thriller is a sinister yet humane parable about blind faith and religious manipulation. It’s one of my favorite movies of the year so far.

After suffering a traumatic brain injury in a brutal attack, Mansa (Aaron Phifer) takes a job editing videos for a struggling church led by the young and charismatic Pastor (Nick Heyman). Mansa, who is Black, disregards a neighbor’s warning that the white Pastor is a bootleg preacher who suckers Black people out of money. When Pastor, enraged, kills a parishioner, he convinces the trusting Mensa that God uses sinners for his will and wants Mensa to help Pastor get rid of the body in the California desert.

This film, with a screenplay by McConaghy and Phifer, is about two people but contains many contradictions; its twists take you down paths that are unnerving but tender, specific yet universal, bleak but not without hope. Race underscores it all: In a filmmaker’s statement, Phifer said he was inspired by the “convenient allyship” of white people he never heard from again after they reached out during the George Floyd protests, and by “the lack of substantive action in the white church” of his youth. This film may look lean and humble, but it speaks a mighty word.

‘You’ll Never Find Me’

Guilt looks like a ghost in this creepy two-hander from the Australian filmmakers Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell.

It’s late one dark and stormy night when Patrick (Brendan Rock) hears someone frantically knocking on the door of his isolated trailer home. It’s a barefoot and wet young woman (Jordan Cowan) asking for a ride back to town. Patrick invites her in, makes her soup and lets her take a shower , but cautions her that getting back home will be a challenge. “This thunderstorm is strange,” he tells her.

As the sounds of torrential rain and creaking floorboards set an increasingly macabre mood, Patrick slinks toward pure paranoia as he wonders who his mysterious yet familiar-looking visitor might be, and what she’s after. Bell’s script becomes more abstract and supernatural as the uncertainties mount, but she and Allen are assured enough directors that the scary stuff stays grounded, and hence more menacing than silly. Maxx Corkindale’s cinematography bathes Patrick’s cramped trailer in a stylish eeriness, the right mood for a claustrophobic house of horrors.

‘Followers’

In 2022, the director James Rich made “Follower,” which at first looks like a run-of-the-mill slasher: Three young women — Sam (Gigi James), a social media influencer, and her friends Heather (Revell Carpenter) and Riley (Molly Leach) — survive an attack during a camping trip at the hands of a masked madman who livestreams his violent acts to fellow incels who call themselves the Wolves.

Like that film, this crackling sequel — written by Rich and Zac Hersh — is a calculated exercise in depravity. (You don’t need to have seen “Follower,” which is streaming on Tubi , to be freaked out by this film.) Here, the action mostly takes place inside a mansion where the women and their partners gather for dinner after a documentary about their ordeal airs.

As the Wolves crash the party, Rich uses understated visual cues — off-kilter framing, oddly-paced scenes — that renders the violence uncannily and chillingly real. What could have been a mess of tired horror tropes is instead a refreshing and nasty take on a home invasion movie, a low-budget cousin to “You’re Next.”

‘Sick of Myself’

Stream it on Paramount+.

Spending time with an energy-sucking monster is a nightmare. But when a narcissistic gorgon is also viciously funny, what you get is Kristoffer Borgli’s smart dark satire about the seemingly unquenchable thirst for center stage.

Signe (Kristine Kujath Thorp) has a bad case of main character syndrome , and her symptoms are rage and jealousy toward her boyfriend, Thomas (Eirik Saether), a conceptual artist who’s making a splash in Oslo’s gallery scene. As Signe’s desperate need for attention turns pathological, she starts taking a bootleg drug she got off the internet that’s known to cause severe deformities. Her twisted Munchausen maneuver pays off: When the pills turn her face bloated and bloody , she claims to have a one-of-a-kind disease, a lie that gets her a newspaper cover story and a modeling gig for a clothing brand appropriately named Regardless, not to mention abundant sympathy from friends. But at what cost?

Thorp beautifully underplays her character’s toxic absurdities, landing somewhere between Carol, the tragic heroine of Todd Haynes’s “Safe,” and Penelope , Kristen Wiig’s mousy “Saturday Night Live” character who is so much better than you.

‘Older Gods’

Stream it on Fandango at Home.

Chris (Rory Wilson, heartbreaking) leaves his pregnant wife in America to travel to a remote cottage in Wales, searching for clues in the mysterious death of his good friend Billy (Ieuan Coombs). Billy left behind video messages for Chris documenting the research he was doing on a cult that worshiped the Origin, a bloodthirsty deity. Chris soon starts seeing black-cloaked figures outside his cabin, and has nightmares in which the ancient Origin speaks in a growl, telling him: “All that you love will bleed.” From there, the film’s creeping dread turns into a sprint.

David A. Roberts’s feature film debut is a tense yet tender meditation on death and the regrets it can leave behind. It’s a gem of Lovecraftian folk horror: supernatural in action yet deeply human in spirit. The script explains too much and shows too little, but Shaun Bishop’s haunting, storytelling cinematography makes up for the uneven momentum. Bonus: Fandango at Home is streaming the film for free.

9 AI hacks that Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, Jensen Huang, and other business leaders use

• Business leaders are using AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT as the sector booms. 
• Some have tried  AI on the job , while others have played with it to write raps and translate poetry.
• Here's how nine executives from companies like Meta, Google, and Microsoft deploy the technology.

Ever since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2023, everyone's been talking about — and trying out — the hot new tech in their personal and professional lives.

That includes some of the world's most influential business leaders.

Many companies aside from OpenAI have released generative AI products with human-like capabilities to cash in on the hype. Users have been turning to the technology to save time and reach their goals.

Some workers have used ChatGPT to generate lesson plans , produce marketing materials, and write legal briefs. Others have turned to chatbots to help them lose weight , do homework, and plan vacations. Some even claimed they made money with AI.

And interest has also permeated the C-suite, with leaders just as keen to make the technology work for them. From translating poetry to creating rap songs, here's how executives from Meta, Google, Microsoft, and other major companies have personally used AI.

Nvidia's Jensen Huang said he uses Perplexity AI "almost every day."

The CEO of the chip company that makes highly coveted GPUs to power AI models uses the AI-powered question-and-answer search engine for research, he told Wired in February this year.

In the interview, he gave an example of how Perplexity can be used to learn about recent advancements in computer-aided drug discovery.

"You want to frame the overall topic so that you could have a framework," Huang told Wired. "From that framework, you could ask more and more specific questions."

"I really love that about these large language models," he said.

The CEO said he uses OpenAI's ChatGPT as well.

AMD CEO Lisa Su said she uses Microsoft's Copilot to "summarize meetings" and "track actions."

Still, Su doesn't think Microsoft's AI assistant is perfect.

"It doesn't write my emails so well," the CEO of Nvidia competitor AMD said during her SXSW keynote in March 2024. "I don't use it for that."

Microsoft has integrated Copilot into its suite of office products, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said his favorite way to use ChatGPT is to explain German philosophy and Persian poetry.

Nadella said ChatGPT helps him comprehend complicated texts from philosophers like Martin Heidegger.

"I remember my father trying to read Heidegger in his forties and struggling with it, and I have attempted it a thousand times and failed," the CEO said on a June 2023 episode of Freakonomics Radio . "But I must say going and asking ChatGPT or Bing chat to summarize Heidegger is the best way to read Heidegger."

He was also impressed by the AI chatbot's ability to translate poetry. He said his favorite prompt is asking ChatGPT to translate Rumi from Urdu into English.

"The most interesting thing about it is that it captures the depth of poetry," Nadella said on the podcast. "It somehow finds, in that latent space, meaning that's beyond just the words and the translation. That I find is just phenomenal."

Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla said he used ChatGPT to write a rap for his daughter's wedding.

"I wrote what I wanted to say to her as a speech, entered it into ChatGPT, said, 'Do rap lyrics for it,' it did, and then entered it into a music AI," the OpenAI investor posted on X, formerly Twitter, in October 2023.

"So I was able to blare it over the speakers, a personal rap song from me," Khosla added. "It extended my capability. It meant a lot to me."

He's the founder of Khosla Ventures, a VC investing in startups in AI, clean technology, and biomedicine, among other sectors.

CEO and cofounder of OpenAI Sam Altman said he uses his company's chatbot for translation and writing.

In August 2023, Altman told Bloomberg that ChatGPT was a "life saver" for translation purposes during his world tour, where he discussed the future of AI. Over three months, he visited countries like Israel, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, India, and South Korea.

The face behind ChatGPT said his creation helps him "write faster" and "think more."

"I see the path towards, like, this being my super assistant for all of my cognitive work," he told Bloomberg.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said he used a language model to talk to the planet Pluto with his son.

In an episode of the New York Times' tech podcast " Hard Fork," Pichai said he asked LaMDA, one of the search giant's early conversational AI models, to pretend it was the planet Pluto to test its capabilities.

During one conversation, LaMDA told Pichai and his son that Pluto is "really lonely" because it's so far out in space.

"I felt sad at that point talking to it," the CEO said on the March 2023 episode of the podcast.

He also asked LaMDA what he should do for his father's 80th birthday. In response, the model suggested that he make a scrapbook.

"It's not that it's profound, but it says things and kind of sparks the imagination," he told the NYT when describing the prompt.

Google unveiled Gemini, its latest language model that could generate text and photos using prompts, in December 2023.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett said he used ChatGPT to translate the Frank Sinatra song 'My Way' into Spanish.

The chairperson of Berkshire Hathaway seemed to be satisfied with the output.

"Two seconds later, you know, it comes out" and "rhymes and does all these wonderful things," Buffett told CNBC on April 2023 regarding the song.

While the billionaire said he sees the potential for ChatGPT to save time, he was skeptical about whether it could positively impact society.

"I think this is extraordinary, but I don't know if it's beneficial," he told CNBC.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, said he uses ChatGPT in his personal life.

Cook didn't specify how he uses the AI chatbot. He did, however, say that he sees its potential after trying it out.

"I'm excited about it," he told CNBC in a June 2023 interview. "I think there's some unique applications for it and you can bet that it's something that we're looking at closely."

Apple appears to be lagging behind some other Big Tech players on the AI front. The iPhone maker is expected to discuss its AI projects during its June developer conference.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg built a personal AI assistant called "Jarvis" to manage different parts of his home.

Back in 2016, Jarvis controlled Zuckerberg's house's lights, appliances, temperature, music, and security systems, Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post. The CEO also said the AI assistant interacted with his phone and computer and could learn new words and concepts.

Meta rolled out Llama-2 , its large language model equivalent to OpenAI's GPT, in July 2023 to select users. Since then, the company has released AI-powered Ray-Ban Smart Glasses and AI chatbots with celebrity personas. Llama-3, its most advanced model, is still in the works.

On February 28, Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, joined 31 other media groups and filed a $2.3 billion suit against Google in Dutch court, alleging losses suffered due to the company's advertising practices.
