Made by Google 2023 event — how to watch Pixel 8 and Pixel Watch 2 launch

Get ready for a lot of new Google products this week

It's now Google's turn in the fall product launch spotlight. The Made by Google hardware event gets underway tomorrow (October 4), and the company's not exactly being coy about what it plans to show off at the event.

Heading into its October 4 showcase, Google posted teasers for the Made by Google event that confirm we'll not only see the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, but the Pixel Watch 2 as well. And knowing what's behind the curtain ahead of time certainly takes some suspense out of the event, though we still have some questions about Google's upcoming products that we hope to have answered.

For that reason, it's worth tuning in to the upcoming Made by Google event to find out just how Google's new flagship phones can compete against both the Galaxy S23 and the recently released iPhone 15 lineup. The Pixel Watch sequel is intriguing as well given how much we like Google's first entry into the world of smartwatches. And there's always the potential for surprise product announcements that remain a secret regardless of Google's tendency to blab out things ahead of time.

With that in mind, here's a guide on how to watch Made by Google 2023 so that you can see all of the new products Google has planned for the rest of the year.

How to watch the Made by Google 2023 live stream

The Made by Google 2023 event takes place Wednesday, October 4 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT/3 p.m. BST. Google is holding its product launch in New York this year, and Tom's Guide will be on hand to share some first impressions about the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2 and whatever else happens to appear.

Don't despair if you're not going to be there in person. You can always watch the Made by Google 2023 live stream, which Google is hosting on YouTube . The Google event live stream is now in place, and you can get notified of when it goes live.

Previously, another Google teaser video serving as a placeholder for the event live stream promised that the "W8 is almost over" and that "Gr8 things are coming," just in case you still weren't sure if the Pixel 8 was on the agenda for Made by Google.

Made by Google 2023 live stream: What we're expecting

Given all the teaser videos, it's not going out on a limb to predict the latest Pixel 8 phones and a Pixel Watch follow-up are planned for this year's edition of Made by Google. But the devil's in the details — here's what we're expecting to see.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro : Google's fall hardware event nearly always delivers new phones, and Google has confirmed its latest flagships will play a role at the October 4 event. So what will the Pixel 8 lineup deliver?

A new Tensor chipset is almost certainly in the cards, with the Tensor G3 set to power the Pixel 8 lineup. While Tensor generally puts the focus on its neural engine that delivers the kind of machine learning-powered features that make the Pixels so unique, rumors suggest Google is working to boost performance for the Tensor G3. That would be a welcome change as Pixel phones tend to lag behind the best phones from Apple, Samsung and OnePlus in terms of performance.

On the photography front, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could be getting a new main camera sensor that's physically larger than what appeared in the Pixel 7 models. That would allow the cameras to capture more light. We also hear that Google is planning a lot of new software capabilities like staggered HDR, where multiple exposures are captured simultaneously for sharper images.

The Pixel 8 could get a smaller display than what the Pixel 7 offered, shrinking from 6.3 inches to 6.17 inches. But the display could see a boost to its refresh rate, matching the 120Hz refresh rate the Pixel 8 Pro is set to offer.

As for the Pixel 8 Pro, leaked images suggest that a temperature sensor is coming to the phone's camera bar. It's supposed to be capable of actually telling you how hot or cold things are, so we're eager to see just how Google sells this particular capability.

The days of super cheap Pixel flagships could be over. A rumor claims that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will cost $100 more than their predecessors, giving them starting prices of $699 and $999, respectively. Pixel Watch 2: Also confirmed to be appearing at Made by Google 2023 is a follow-up to Google's Pixel Watch . So how will Google make sure that the sequel surpasses the original?

Apparently, it will start with a chip change, as Google is rumored to be dropping the Exynos 9110 inside the current Pixel Watch for a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus. That will supposedly give the Pixel Watch 2 a battery life boost. Another potential switch involves ditching stainless steel for an aluminum frame that's cheaper and lighter.

As for new capabilities, Pixel Watch 2 rumors suggest the smartwatch will gain the ability to track stress levels, a "multi-path" heart rate monitor and safety improvements such as car crash detection.

Android 14: Google's Android update is usually out by this point, but Android 14 has yet to make its debut beyond the beta that's currently available. The arrival of the Pixel 8 seems like a perfect time to launch Android 14, since that's the version of Google's phone software that will run on the new models.

Android 14 doesn't figure to usher in substantial changes to the Android experience, but there are some improvements that should make using your phone more convenient. Highlights include the ability to use the phone's camera flash to alert you to incoming notifications, more refined permissions for sharing photos and video, a Health Connect app that's integrated into the platform and built-in satellite connectivity.

Some sort of audio gear: If you watch that teaser video Google is running in place of the Made for Google 2023 event live stream, you'll notice several products likely to appear at the event — a Pixel 8 smartphone, a Pixel Watch 2... and something else. Freezing the frame at about the 11-second mark, the mystery product looks very much like an audio device — there are two very small speaker slits and what appears to be the edge of an eartip emerging from the shadows.

If we had to guess, we'd assume these were new Pixel Buds models tied to the Pixel 8 release. Google last released the Pixel Buds Pro more than a year ago and the Pixel Buds A-Series well before that. That's long enough to go between audio upgrades.

How to watch the Made by Google event on October 4

At the tail end of the fall product launch season, on Wednesday, Google is holding its annual Made by Google event, where we can expect the tech giant to launch its latest tech, including the new Pixel phones and the latest Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds.

If you want to experience the announcements as they happen live, you can tune into the Made by Google livestream on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Here's how. 

When is the event?

Made by Google will occur on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. ET. The in-person event will be held in New York City, where select members of the press, including ZDNET's June Wan, are invited to attend. 

If you don't want to miss out on the action, no worries; Google will welcome the public to watch the event's happenings live via a livestream.

You can watch the Made by Google event livestream for free on the Made by Google YouTube channel  or Google's website , which will automatically start streaming the event when it starts.

What to expect

Google is expected to release the latest generation of its Pixel phones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are rumored to boast a rounder form factor and a series of new AI features . 

The company is also expected to double down on its attempts to create a mainstream smartwatch by releasing the second generation of its Pixel Watch. The new model will likely tackle the challenges of the original in an attempt to release a more polished version.

We’ll meet Google’s newest Pixel devices in just over a month now that the company is sending out invitations for an in-person launch event on Wednesday, October 4th, at 10AM ET in New York City. The invites are going out just one day after Apple invited the media and others to check out its iPhone 15 hardware at an event on September 12th, as the fall calendar quickly fills with events.

To keep up with every big tech and entertainment event going on this fall , complete with any updates and last-minute additions, open up Google Calendar in a desktop browser window and add our fall event calendar using this link or individual links for the events included below — they may not work if you’re on a mobile device in the Calendar app, but it will work on the website.

An image errantly posted to the Google Store last night has confirmed everything we already knew about the Pixel 8 Pro’s design and camera layout, but what else is there to find out? Details on the full Pixel 8 line of devices and a new Pixel Watch are assured. Otherwise, the Pixel Buds A-Series and Pixel Buds Pro are potential targets for an update, but the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet just started shipping and aren’t ready for a refresh.

The invitation didn’t mention Google’s other hardware brands like Nest or Fitbit, but those are also possibilities.

Google eventually posted this advertisement for the event featuring the Pixel and iPhone enjoying a “spa day,” but the most relevant part of it is a link to the Google Store for people to sign up for updates once they’re available.

Whatever Google has to announce, we’ll be there to report everything for you as it happens.

Just one day after Apple announced its own event

• Google will host its next Made by Google event on October 4th in New York City, where the company will likely unveil the Pixel 8 series and a second-gen Pixel Watch.
• Earlier this week, the Pixel 8 Pro image was accidentally uploaded to the Google Store website, giving us a sneak peek of the upcoming device.
• It's unclear what else Google has up its sleeve, but the invite promises to "introduce the latest additions" to the Pixel portfolio.

Just a day after Apple sent out its annual invite to September's iPhone event, Google has countered with its own announcement. The next Made by Google event is happening on October 4th at 10 AM ET, giving us just over a month until we see the Pixel 8 series in person for the very first time.

Today's invite arrives just hours after we got our first official glimpse — albeit by mistake — of the Pixel 8 Pro, after an image of the device was uploaded to the Google Store website. In addition to the Pixel 8 series, we're also expecting to see a second-gen Pixel Watch . Other than that, however, any other potential products remain a mystery. Last year, the company teased its now-released Pixel Tablet , but it's far too early to expect a successor to that device.

As usual, Android Police will be on hand to check out whatever Google announces on stage in New York — you can see my own invite above. With just a little more than a month to go, that gives us plenty of time left to speculate. Or, you know, for Google to accidentally upload more official images to its various websites. Whatever floats its boat.

What to expect from Google's October 4 event

Google's October 4 event could be one of its biggest hardware launches ever. Here are all the facts -- and the rumors -- we know about what the search giant will reveal on Tuesday in San Francisco.

Expectations for Google's October 4 event in San Francisco were already big. And then Hiroshi Lockheimer, the company's Senior Vice President in charge of Android, Chrome OS and Google Play tweeted this:

So what will be so big that it will be reverberating almost a decade from now? A boatload of new Google hardware, and possibly some new software and services to pull it all together, if the rumors are to be believed.

According to published reports, here's everything Google may show on stage on Tuesday:

• Two new phones that drop the Nexus name in lieu of " Pixel "
• Pricing, availability and more details on Google Home , the Amazon Echo competitor the company announced earlier this year
• An upgraded 4K Chromecast video streamer
• A successor to its OnHub Wi-Fi router
• More information on Daydream , its new VR platform
• A new Pixel tablet (or laptop)
• And maybe, just maybe, a whole new operating system that combines elements of Android and Chrome OS

Let's break down what we know so far, with the big caveat that most everything is still firmly in rumor territory -- albeit with some meaty leaks thrown in.

Pixel phones

This could be the new Google Pixel and Pixel XL.

• Google is saying farewell to the Nexus name and branding the new phones Pixel instead.
• Independent sources claim there will be two new phones announced, dubbed the Pixel and Pixel XL .
• The smaller phone might have a 5-inch screen, while the larger one could sport a 5.5-inch display.
• They could be made by HTC and start at $650 (that converts to about £500 or AU$860), with the Pixel XL costing more. There may also be a financing plan you can buy from Google and an extended warranty, similar to Apple Care.
• The phones could come in three colors, according to Android Police : aluminum, black and bright blue. In the US, it's possible they'll sell through Google's Store and Verizon.
• Business Insider , Android Authority and Android Police also pin the two phones with more specific specs that you can read about here .

Google Home

• Google already announced its Echo-like Google Home smart speaker back at the I/O conference in May.
• Housing its "OK Google" digital voice assistant, the compact, plug-in speaker will be able to play music on speakers throughout the home, turn on lights, check the traffic and, of course, query Google search.
• Google recently held a closed-door meeting attended by 50 participants including some of the biggest names in the home audio industry. According to Variety , Google encouraged attendees (some of whom have already worked with the company on Wi-Fi-enabled speakers powered by Google Cast) to build their own versions of the Google Home virtual assistant .
• We should finally get more details on pricing and availability on Tuesday. The same sleuths at Android Police claim the speaker will cost $129 (about £100 or AU$170).

Chromecast Ultra 4K

Early rumors suggest this is an image of the new Google Chromecast Ultra, capable of streaming 4K content to any display with an HDMI port.

• A recent leak uncovered by Android Police previews the release of a new 4K digital media streamer called the Chromecast Ultra.
• The Ultra will retail for $69 (£55 or AU$90) -- double the cost of the current Chromecast dongle .
• The device would compete with new 4K video streamers from Roku , among others.

A new Wi-Fi Router

• Google may unveil a new home router called Google Wi-Fi that touts smart features that will extend its range beyond the capabilities of the typical Wi-Fi routers we've seen.
• Users can run multiple Google Wi-Fi access points at the same time to cast one large wireless network, according to Android Police .
• The same unnamed source told the site the router will be similar in size to the Amazon Echo Dot , the smaller version of the voice-enabled Amazon Echo speaker .
• The Wi-Fi router is said to cost $129, again about £100 or AU$170.
• The router would presumably be a successor to Google's OnHub .

Daydream VR

• We'll finally see the realization of Google's virtual reality dreams in the form of its Daydream VR platform , first announced at the company's I/O developer conference in May.
• According to a Bloomberg report , Daydream is being built into the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system .
• The company is partnering with Samsung, HTC, ZTE, Huawei, Xiaomi, Alcatel, Asus and LG to deliver phones to make Daydream "the best smartphone-based mobile VR experience" on the market.
• Google's VR chief, Clay Bavor told us back in May that Daydream is "...night and day from Cardboard, in terms of the level of experience, the level of comfort, the level of quality. We intend to have the best smartphone-based mobile VR experience. Full stop."

Possible: A new tablet, powered by 'Andromeda'

• According to reports from 9to5Google and Android Police , Google will release a laptop and tablet powered by a new operating system called Andromeda, which merges Android and Chrome OS .
• Andromeda will get its debut on a Huawei tablet with Nexus branding, which is confusing given the previous rumors Google would do away with the Nexus name .
• But the Android Police report specifies that an "ultra-thin" convertible laptop called "Pixel 3" will supposedly release near the end of 2017 -- which doesn't sound like something we'd see on stage a full year earlier. So maybe the laptop, and the rumored Andromeda OS, are longer-term rumors that won't apply to this event.

What not to expect

• Don't hold your breath for the Project Ara modular phone with swappable parts; that's stalled so much that Google has pulled it off the table, for now .
• Google has also indicated that it's pushing its next big wearable update back to 2017 . The consumer version of Android Wear 2.0 was initially expected this fall.

Apple announced that it would reveal its next-generation iPhones next month, on September 12, 2023. Google wanted to take the spotlight from the iPhones, and the company announced that its Google Pixel Fall event would happen on October 4. The company already sent out the invites to the media, asking selected people to attend the in-person Made by Google event.

In this post, we collected all the information we could find, detailing everything you could expect to see later in October. At the upcoming Made by Google event, the company is expected to unveil the next-generation Google Pixel 8, Google Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, and the new Google Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch.

The next Made by Google event will take place in the fall, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 (via Android Police ). The event will be held in New York and start at 10 AM ET. The invite itself states, “You’re invited to an in-person Made by Google event where we’ll introduce the latest additions to our Pixel portfolio of devices” , suggesting that we’ll see the Pixel 8 series of smartphones, and other devices, such as the Google Pixel Watch 2.

The event will accept attendees, and Google is already sending out in-person invites to select media outlets and journalists. In a typical fashion, we expect the event to be live-streamed on social media and YouTube, and we’ll also bring you the news as they become available.

Today’s invite comes just hours after Google was caught accidentally posting a live image of the Google Pixel 8 Pro (via Mishaal Rahman ). The image was uploaded to the Google Store website. The image showed the new camera visor layout on the back of the Pixel 8 Pro, and the color of the upcoming smartphone.

On the outside, the only noticeable upgrade between the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 8 series are going to be to the camera bar. Additionally, there might be new colors, and new sensors. Early leaks suggested Google could equip the Pixel 8 Pro with a contactless thermometer that could monitor the skin’s temperature to help determine the health of a person.

When it comes to specifications, we expect both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to come with the new Google Tensor G3 chipset. The new SoC is rumored to be more powerful and efficient than its predecessor, and it’ll reportedly be based on the yet unannounced Samsung Exynos 2300 processor that’ll reportedly be based on the 3nm process.

The latest leaks indicate that Google isn’t expected to double the base storage on the upcoming models, and those are expected to come with the same default storage tiers as their previous successors. We expect to see 128/256GB base storage for the Pixel 8, and 128/256/512GB configuration options for the larger, Google Pixel 8 Pro.

Display-wise, the Pixel 8 Pro will reportedly come with a 6.7-inch panel with 1344 x 2992 resolution. The panel will support 120Hz refresh rate and have 1600 nits of peak brightness. The smaller Pixel 8 will house a 6.17-inch 1080 x 2400 screen with 1400 nits of peak brightness. The Pixel 8 will also be the first model in the series to come equipped with a 120Hz display, which will be a noticeable improvement over the Pixel 7’s 90Hz panel.

When it comes to the camera, we’re expecting a big improvement. The Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to have a 50MP primary, a 64MP ultrawide, and a 48MP periscope telephoto sensor. The standard Pixel 8 would come with the same 50MP primary and a different, 12MP ultrawide sensor. It’s worth noting that the sensors would receive various upgrades, improving the performance in low-light, and HDR media.

We also recently heard that Google would want to step up its game and offer the Pixel 8 series an iPhone-like support window . The news suggested that Google could offer as much as five years of OS and five years of security updates, starting with the Pixel 8 series. This would mark Google as the leader in the Android world, and the company would officially become one of the only brands to offer such long support for its smartphones, and potentially tablets and smartwatches.

We don’t have much information about the battery capacity or the charging technology. Still, if history is any indication, we should expect similar batteries in the Pixel 8 series, and a nearly identical 23W wired and wireless charging.

Regarding the price and availability, we heard sources claiming that Google could raise the price for its Pixel products this year by as much as $100, and it remains to be seen whether that’ll apply to all regions, or only the ones outside of the US.

Google Pixel 7

The new Google Pixel 7 is powered by the all-new Google Tensor G2 chipset. The device is coupled with 8GB of memory, and it has 128/256GB storage tiers. The phone comes with a significantly improved camera system, and it's more portable than the last generation.  The Pixel 7 is available in Obsidian, Lemongrass, and Snow colors.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro, powered by the new Google Pixel Tensor sensor, provides great graphics performance and computing power to let you easily play all of your favorite games and multitask. The device also has a highly capable camera setup that's backed by a unique post-processing algorithm that helps achieve great results.

The first generation Google Pixel Watch was a fantastic smartwatch, despite the watch having a less-than-stellar battery life and fairly large bezels – compared to the competition. Despite its flaws, the Pixel Watch was a clear fan favorite and one of our favorite smartwatches in 2022. The upcoming Google Pixel Watch 2 will reportedly pack a ton of improvements, and here’s everything you need to know in a nutshell.

The Pixel Watch 2 will reportedly be a major upgrade over the first-generation watch, and it’ll reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chipset. Google will reportedly switch from the old Samsung chip to the one-year-old Qualcomm chip to boost the efficiency and improve the performance to try and tackle the battery life concerns of users.

The battery will reportedly receive a modest upgrade, and it’s expected to by a 306 mAh cell, up from the 294 mAh that was in the first-gen Pixel Watch. In terms of looks and feel, the watch will be made out of aluminium instead of stainless steel, which means that the Pixel Watch 2 could be more prone to scratches and dents as it’ll be less durable than its successor. The display will be the same, and we could see the same fairly large bezels as last year.

Price-wise, the Pixel Watch is already pricey at $350, and we haven’t heard any rumors about the updated pricing information for the second-generation Pixel Watch. If there is a price increase – which is rumored for the Pixel 8 series – there’s a chance we could see a slightly higher price tag for the Pixel Watch 2 as well.

Google Pixel Watch

The Google Pixel Watch is the first smartwatch from the software giant, and it's been in the works for multiple years. The watch is powered by Wear OS 3 and has Google Assistant, Fitbit health tracking features, and more. 

At the time of writing this post, it remains unclear if we’ll see any other products at the October event. Last year, Google teased the now-released Pixel Tablet, which became available earlier this year. While it would be far too early to expect a successor of the Pixel Tablet, it’s not something we can easily rule out.

The most likely product to receive an update would be the Pixel Buds. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we saw a new version of the Pixel Buds Pro wireless earbuds, or the Pixel Buds A TWS earphones. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a new Pixel Buds earbuds, but if anything, it could potentially return in 2023, given that it could be sold at a more affordable price than the Pixel Buds Pro devices.

That said, we haven’t seen any rumors that would’ve indicated such devices, and as a result, we can’t be certain, and only speculate at this time. Based on Google’s previous practices, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a teaser of an upcoming product, such as another tablet, or foldable device.

Google’s Pixel 8 event set for October 4

We’re rapidly approaching a hardware season for the ages. A day after Apple officially set the date for its iPhone 15 unveiling, Google has planted its Pixel flag. The latest version of the company’s proprietary handset is set for an October 4 debut in New York City. The event will almost certainly debut the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagship, following I/O’s announcement of the Pixel 7a and Google’s first foldable, the Pixel Fold.

If past is precedent (and it usually is), we’ll see a spate of new hardware at the annual fall Made by Google event that will also include the company’s latest wearable, the Pixel Watch 2. Last year’s Pixel Watch was something of a mixed bag, but received overall good marks as Google’s first true Wear OS device. Many of the device’s positives were a direct result of the company’s 2019 Fitbit acquisition.

Meanwhile, after a bit of a rocky start, Google’s phone line has been on the glow up since 2021’s Pixel 6 marked a radical shift for the line, with a new premium design, improved optics and the first-party Tensor chip. The leaks have already begun, including early images of the device (it looks an awful lot like the Pixel 7) and word that the Tensor G3 chip will feature nine cores and be built atop the Arm Immortalis architecture.

As far as what else to expect, the Pixel Tablet isn’t due for an update, though it’s been a long time since we’ve seen meaningful updates to the Nest/Home line. The company does appear to have deprioritized its smart home offerings, so this could, perhaps, be an opportunity to rectify that in a meaningful way.

The event kicks off at 10 AM ET and will be livestreamed over YouTube. We’ll be in there in person, per usual.

Google has made this year’s hardware event official: October 4th

In a move that takes Google’s hardware events right back to the beginning of it all, we are now set to officially hear about the latest from Google on October 4th, 2023 in NYC. Like it was the very first year when Google introduced the world to the first Pixel phone and the Google Assistant, Google’s event once again returns to the 10/4 date for 2023. On that day, at 10AM EST, we’ll know all about what Google has in the pipeline for the rest of 2023 and into 2024.

Obviously, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to make an appearance, and the Pixel Watch 2 should be along for the ride as well. Apart from those devices, the only other real murmurs around Google-made hardware is on the Nest Wi-Fi front, but the rumored device we’re expecting isn’t exactly the type of thing we normally see at these more-elaborate events.

For now, those devices will be the highlight and we’ll just have to wait and see if there’s anything Google’s managed to keep under wraps this time around. As a company, they’ve been pretty bad about keeping leaks at bay, but there’s not been a leaked render or insider image of the Pixel Watch 2 just yet, so I guess they’ve found a way to tighten things up a bit. And if that’s the case, maybe there’s a surprise or two awaiting us at the event. Either way, mark your calendars for October 4th at 10AM EST to watch live as the latest Google hardware is revealed to the world.

Everything announced at Google’s October 6 event: Pixel 7, Pixel Watch, Pixel Tablet

Google has turned the page on a new chapter in its Pixel hardware ecosystem, with this fall’s “Made by Google” event revealing the company’s first smartwatch alongside the next-generation Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro  flagship smartphones.

The new product announcements didn’t come as much of a surprise since Google has been offering up sneak peeks since it first teased the new Pixel device lineup at Google I/O in May . However, this week’s event answers the last remaining questions, including full specifications, pricing, and — of course — the actual release date.

Over the past few weeks, Google has been offering up images and even design videos for the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, showcasing the familiar design in a classier recycled aluminum finish. The company had also previously confirmed that both would run Android 13 and be powered by the next generation of Google’s Tensor chip .

During today’s event, company executives filled in the rest of the blanks, revealing a pair of flagship smartphones focused primarily on iterative improvements that show the lineup has reached a certain level of maturity.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have shrunk slightly from their predecessors. The Pixel 7 gets a 6.3-inch screen, dropping the new handset by 0.1 inches in screen size and physical height compared to the Pixel 6. However, at 0.3 inches deep and 6.9 ounces, it’s also shed some of its bulk

Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 Pro features the same 6.7-inch display as the Pixel 6 Pro while getting a height and depth reduction, although, at 7.5 ounces, it weighs in about the same. Some reports had suggested that Google was planning to shrink the bezels to offer a larger screen on the Pixel 7 Pro in the same size as last year’s model, but instead it looks like Google chose to reduce the size without sacrificing screen real estate.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro offer significantly brighter screens this year, with 1,400 nits of peak brightness on the Pixel 7 and 1,500 nits on the Pixel 7 Pro. Both offer 1,000 nits of HDR brightness. Those are some healthy increases over the screens on last year’s Pixel 6 lineup, which peaked at around 800 nits, but the screen technology appears unchanged. The Pixel 7 features the same 1,080 by 2,400 FHD+ 90Hz OLED display specs as the Pixel 6 , while the Pixel 7 Pro gets the 1,440 by 3,120 QHD+ 120Hz display from the Pixel 6 Pro .

While we weren’t expecting any major camera improvements to the Pixel 7 lineup, Google has increased the optical zoom on the Pixel 7 Pro’s 48-megapixel (MP) telephoto lens from 4x to 5x, which in turn means the digital zoom can now reach 30x magnification. The 12MP ultrawide camera gains autofocus and gets a slightly wider 125.8-degree field of view, but otherwise retains the same specs as the Pixel 6 Pro, as does the 50MP main camera.

On the other hand, the Pixel 7 appears to have all the same camera specs as the Pixel 6 , although it’s certainly no slouch . The 50MP main camera remains identical to the one found on its larger sibling, but the 12MP ultrawide camera doesn’t gain the same autofocus or wider field of view improvements as the 7 Pro. The Pixel 7 does get a boost to a 10.8MP selfie camera with a wider field of view for group selfies, putting it on par with the Pixel 7 Pro.

However, most of the actual improvements in modern smartphone cameras come from software more than from megapixels and sensor sizes, and this is where Google’s new Tensor G2 chip comes in . On top of the solid computational features already available with the Pixel 6 lineup, Google has added cinematic blur for videos, photo unblur, improved Real Tone color mapping, and faster Night Sight processing. The Pixel 7 Pro also gains a macro mode thanks to the autofocus on the new ultrawide lens, while the Pixel 7 pushes the Super Res Zoom up to 8x.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro also promise the same 24-hour battery life, which can now reach up to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode. Our testing showed Google’s numbers to be pretty accurate on the Pixel 6 lineup , so there’s no reason to believe the Pixel 7 models won’t deliver on that promise. Fast charging also lets you juice up to a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes by using a compatible 30-watt USB-C charger.

Naturally, Google is changing up the array of colors for this year’s lineup. The Pixel 7 will come in Snow, Obsidian, and Lemongrass and features a matte aluminum finish, while the Pixel 7 Pro comes in Snow, Obsidian, and Hazel in polished aluminum. While the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will undoubtedly continue to be the flagship products in Google’s hardware lineup, the company has been hard at work building an entire ecosystem around its Pixel smartphones. That began in 2017 with the first Pixel Buds, and now Google has added its first smartwatch to the mix, which the company is calling its “Pixel Collection.”

The Pixel Watch is another product that’s been teased by the company for long enough that there were few surprises at this week’s event. The wearable’s design features a circular domed look that’s both minimalist and sleek. It stays consistent with the styling of other Wear OS smartwatches, yet it’s also unmistakably unique.

The Pixel Watch is available in only a single size and finish. It’s made from 80% recycled stainless steel and Corning Gorilla Glass in three color options designed to complement the Pixel 7: matte black, polished silver, and champagne gold. It also has an interchangeable band system. A fluoroelastomer active band is included in a choice of four colors, while woven, stretch, two-tone leather, and crafted leather bands will be available for purchase separately. Google notes that metal mesh and metal links bands will be coming next spring, and we’re sure that third-party accessory makers will quickly jump on board to offer their own options.

The Pixel Watch also features an always-on display, so you’ll be able to see the time and other relevant information at a glance, plus 4G/LTE cellular , Wi-Fi connectivity,  NFC , and Bluetooth support. Internal sensors include a compass and altimeter, blood oxygen sensor, optical heart rate sensor, and what Google calls a “multipurpose electrical sensor.” At launch, however, you won’t actually be able to do anything with the blood oxygen sensor.

Under the hood, Google is leveraging the expertise that it obtained from its 2019 acquisition of Fitbit to power a whole suite of health and fitness features. This includes continuous heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, 40 different workout modes, and an ECG app.

Thanks to Google’s advanced machine learning algorithms, the Pixel Watch also promises a Daily Readiness score that will help direct you to the best workouts each day, plus Active Zone Minutes to let you know when you should push yourself harder during a workout. Naturally, the Pixel Watch can also be used with a Fitbit Premium subscription , and it includes a six-month subscription for new users.

With WearOS 3.5, the Pixel Watch includes wearable versions of Google Maps, Google Wallet , Google Assistant, YouTube Music, and Messages. Emergency SOS lets you quickly call 911 or other international emergency services when you’re in a bind. Google has announced plans to bring fall detection to the Pixel Watch in a winter Wear OS update.

The Google Pixel Watch promises up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, with a USB-C magnetic charging cable powering the wearable to 50% in 30 minutes or a full charge in about 80 minutes. It’s also rated for 5 atmospheres (5 ATM) of water resistance under ISO standard 22810:2010 and features durable and scratch-resistant 3D Gorilla Glass for protection from everyday bumps and scrapes.

During the event, Google also gave us another look at its upcoming Pixel Tablet. It’s not launching today, but we do have a better idea of what’s coming from the tablet when it launches in 2023.

The tablet’s name is officially “Google Pixel Tablet.” Google says the tablet is designed with premium materials and that it has an immersive display. The Google Pixel Tablet runs Android with all of the Material You theme goodness you get on a Pixel smartphone. Google also touts that the Pixel Tablet is “the best way to experience Android on a tablet.”

The same Tensor G2 chip inside the Pixel 7/7 Pro is what powers the Pixel Tablet. All of the same phone calling and photo editing features from the Pixel 7 series are also available on the Pixel Tablet, meaning you get all of Google’s excellent software smarts — just on a larger screen than before.

Another unique aspect of the Google Pixel Tablet is that it can be paired with a charging/speaker dock. The Pixel Tablet looks just like a Nest Hub Max when placed on the dock, turning it into a perfect smart home companion. While on the dock, the Pixel Tablet gives you easy access to smart home controls and hands-free Google Assistant voice commands. Furthermore, it can function as a digital picture frame for Google Photos.

The Google Pixel Tablet is launching in 2023, and as it stands, we still have no word on final pricing.

As predicted, Google is continuing to aggressively price its Pixel lineup on par with prior models. The Pixel 7 is available in 128GB and 256GB capacities, starting at $599, while the Pixel 7 Pro starts at $899 for a 128GB model, with 256GB and 512GB versions available.

The Pixel Watch comes in four color and band combinations, with the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi version starting at $350 and the cellular-equipped model starting at $400. While the Pixel Watch is obviously an ideal companion to the Pixel 7, it can be used with any smartphone running Android 8.0 or later.

Pre-orders for the Pixel 7/7 Pro and Pixel Watch are open now, with regular sales beginning October 13.

Google Pixel fans, it's almost time to open up your wallets. Rumors and leaks regarding the Google Pixel 8a have been floating around online for months, and now the phone has taken a big step closer to its official release.

On March 18, Google submitted four new smartphone models to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). • Use an iframe (HTML element that loads another HTML page within the document) on your website to load the content. You can do this by going to the file in Drive and taking the next relevant step: 
• For Workspace files (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms file types) use the Google Docs publishing URL of the file. 
• For other files, once opened in Drive, select “Open in new window” from the overflow menu, and then open the overflow menu and select “Embed item…”, which provides the iframe HTML tag. 
• Switch to the Drive and Docs publishing flows by January 2, 2024
• This impacts all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts

• You can turn off this feature for specific rooms by going to Directory > Buildings and resources > Resource management > Resources > [Room Name] > Room settings and toggle Exempt from in-room booking . 
• You can also bulk update the individual room toggle for up to 200 rooms from the resource management page.

• Navigate to drive.google.com > click on “Activity” in the left-hand navigation: 
• Click on “Manage access” to take action on your pending access requests . This will not appear if pending access requests do not exist. 
• If you have pending approvals assigned to you, they will appear in the “Approvals” section. 
• Click on “Review” to take action on your pending approvals. 
• If you have comment-related activity in the last 30 days, you will see them in the “Comments” section. Click on “Open comment” to take action on your pending comments. 
• Comments notifications appear if you are 1) subscribed to notifications, 2) participating in the specific comment thread, or 3) mentioned in a comment within that file.

Review and approve your Contacts delegates by November 13, 2023

• As part of this change, you must review and approve your existing delegates by November 13, 2023 or they will lose their delegate status. 
• Admins can use the Admin SDK API to delegate access on behalf of their users . Note that using this method takes care of re-approving delegators on behalf of the delegator.

• Admins: Use our Developer Documentation to learn more about using the Admin SDK API to delegate access or visit the Help Center to learn more about delegating a user's contacts .
• End users: 
• Delegators:
• You’ll see a prompt in Contacts to review those who currently have Contacts delegation for your contacts. 
• Beginning November 13, 2023, those with assigned and approved delegation will be able to update labels and manage Other contacts on your behalf. If you do not submit your approval, delegates will lose their access.

When to add GIFs and stickers to Google Slides

A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is an image file that uses a series of pictures to create an animated sequence. It's like a video without sound and is typically used to express reactions or make memes.

If you think your presentation might cause audience members to nod off to sleep, add a GIF or two to your Google Slides. There's a time and place for humor, so use it sparingly. For instance, a funny Star Wars GIF or sticker will attract your classmates' attention. But it might not fly during a board meeting presentation.

If you can't find a particular GIF or sticker online, go to Giphy or Tenor.com and enter your search term. You can also explore the trending section to find popular GIFs. If you're using a phone, download the Giphy app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. You'll also find other third-party apps for Android and iOS.

How to add GIFs and stickers on desktop

We walk you through three ways of adding GIFs and stickers to Google Slides. The first method adds them from the web, the second accesses GIFs downloaded to your desktop PC, and the third uses a web link.

How to add GIFs and stickers from the web

• Open Google Slides .
• Click Insert from the toolbar.
• Select Image .
• Choose GIFs and stickers .
• Enter your search term.
• Select the GIF or sticker you want to add.
• Click Insert .
• To resize the image, click and drag any corner.

How to add GIFs and stickers saved on your computer

Adding GIFs and stickers from your computer is the easiest way to include them in your slideshow. You must download them to your PC before following these steps.

• Click Upload from computer .

First, keep your GIF or sticker's URL handy.

• Paste the link.
• Click Insert image .

How to add GIFs and stickers on mobile

The Google Slides mobile app isn't as feature-rich as the desktop version. However, it will do in a pinch. First, download the GIFs or stickers you want on your phone. You can't add them to your presentation via URL.

The following steps work on Android and iOS. We use an Android smartphone in this tutorial, but iPhone users can follow along.

• Open the Google Slides app.
• Tap the plus icon in the upper-right corner.
• Select Image . Close
• Tap From photos .
• Choose a GIF or sticker from your gallery. Close

Why can't I add a GIF or sticker to Google Slides?

There are many reasons why your GIF or sticker might not load correctly despite following the steps listed above.

• Older versions of Google Slides might have issues with GIF playback, so get the latest update.
• GIFs and stickers may not appear as intended if you have poor internet connectivity. To avoid issues, download and add them to your slides instead of using URLs.
• Large GIF files may not work well with Slides. Compress the images or replace them with smaller files.

You can customize GIFs to match the theme of your presentation. You can add a border, crop, resize, and recolor images.

How to crop an image

• Double-click the GIF or sticker.
• Drag the black tabs until the image gets cropped to your preference.
• When you're happy with the final image, press Enter . If you aren't, type Ctrl + Z to undo the changes.

How to use formatting options

Use Google Slides' formatting options to change your GIF or sticker's orientation, size, color, opacity, and brightness.

• Select your GIF or sticker by clicking it.
• Select Format from the toolbar.
• Click Format options .
• Adjust the orientation or size from the Size and Rotation section.
• Change the tone of the image from the Recolor section.
• Customize your image's opacity, brightness, or contrast from the Adjustments section.

How to add a border

• Click the GIF or sticker.
• Select the pencil icon from the menu bar.
