Grad Student Researchers

Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs)

Graduate Student Researchers are employed by faculty members to conduct research; students seeking employment as a GSR are encouraged to contact faculty directly.

To be eligible to hold a GSR position, a graduate student must be enrolled in 12 units and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. If you are on Filing Fee status, please remember that you may only hold an academic position for one quarter during your academic career. Graduate students may work no more than eighteen quarters as a GSR during their academic career.

GSRs are paid according to the compensation plan agreed by their home program, not by the hiring department. Students in the Graduate Program in Statistics are hired either at Step IV or Step V, can be employed at no more than 49% (except during summer, when they can be up to 100%), and are paid under the following compensation plan:

Students who have not advanced to PhD candidacy (Step IV) :

Students who have advanced to PhD candidacy (Step V) :

GSRs who are employed at 25% or more are eligible for full fee remissions on their in-state fees. They also receive a 100% remission on their Non-Resident Tuition. GSRs are also eligible for Graduate Work-Study.

During the summer months, GSRs may work up to 100% if they hold no other appointment.
